Hall Of Fame 2016 Voting Phase

The Nomination phase is over and now we come to the Voting phase. The Voting Phase goes like this:

 

1. Each person gets 3 votes to be placed in my pm box. Only those sent to my pm box will be counted.

2. Only those listed on the Contenders list at the bottom of this post are eligible.

3. These 3 votes are to be placed in order: 1, 2, 3.

4. Vote listed at 1 gets 3 points, vote listed at 2 gets 2 points, vote listed at 3 gets 1 point.

5. Self-Votes are NOT allowed in this phase and will not be counted if sent to me.

6. Feel free to post publicly in this thread who your votes have gone to and why people should vote for them.

7. This page will not be updated as the nomination phase was. This way it will be a surprise who gets into the Hall Of Fame.

8. Any further questions, feel free to ask on this thread or in my pm box.

9. Barring a tie, 3 people will be voted in at the deadline. In case of a tie, we will simply have more people voted in this time.

10. This will run for one month, until August 1 at 12 Noon PST.

I have been doing a lot of thinking about the end-of-year awards. With the permission of the members of this board, I am going to make them much like the Hall-Of-Fame Awards. I am going to make a two month nomination phase, including the months of December 2016 and January 2017. Then the voting phase would take place in February 2017. So the end-of-year awards would be shown in March 2017. We would be using most of the same categories that we have used over the past here on the board.</p>

Since they're being run by two different people, I don't see why they couldn't run side by side.</p>

After all this was pretty much the way it was run before and it worked well. </p><p> </p><p> I cannot speak for others but the issue I had with the last time the awards were run was the whole committee thing. The community had very little say in the matter and the votes were controlled by you and a committee appointed by you (The community as a whole were not even given the chance to help select the board). To me it came across like a clique deciding what was right for the others. The end results of the vote reflected that, as the same folks won all of the awards. </p><p> </p><p> At least with a community vote there is a chance that people who might not be as popular could end up winning stuff or they will at least be nominated.</p>

If I really wanted to be a tease, I could say that we will be having more than the three voted in this year. There was a pretty large tie and this year we will see five people voted in to the Hall of Fame. The induction ceremony will be posted within the week this week.</p>

<p>Just to give an update as I am typing from my phone...</p><p> </p><p>

My life has been mostly busy this week so I have not been able to write up a proper post announcing the new members of the Hall of Fame. My apologies to those who are waiting. I am hoping to get something banged out tomorrow, though. Again, I apologize but, as always, real life comes first.</p>

Though, the response is that I agree with what you have to say here. I left the committee early on due to not having the time to truly run things. But this time is going to be different. It will definitely be an entire community choice, rather than a simple committee as I realize that the committee was the wrong way to go. The main thing that I will have the specific power over is the categories. I don't want to have too few and I don't want to have too many. But there are definitely GDS-created categories that I want to get in there, such as the Rocky Maivia award.</p>

The voting will take place during February and the actual awards show will take place in March.</p>
