1994: Hulkamania Extreme Edition

This is an alternative reality edition of my 1994: Clash of The Titans mod.

In the spring of 1994, rumours were afloat that Hulk Hogan was in negotiations with WCW. These negotiations, for one reason or the other, fell through right as everyone believed Hogan was about to sign on the dotted line. As a result, WCW had to look elsewhere for their big marquee signing and Hogan had to think outside the box to relaunch his career in wrestling...

Start date: September 1994

Key changes to the timeline:

ECW

Failing to strike a deal with WCW (rumoured to be because of Hogan's demands), Hogan instead partnered up with Australian businessman Rupert Murdoch, longtime owner of the News Corporation media group to buy NWA flagship Eastern Championship Wrestling from Tod Gordon, making Hogan both CEO as well as wrestling figurehead. Instigated by ECW booker Paul Heyman, the company quickly changed it's name to Extreme Championship Wrestling as their TV show, Hardcore Wrestling, found its way to national TV through Murdoch's News Corporation. With Hogan winning a tournament for the vacant NWA World Heavyweight Championship and signing some big stars (mostly Hogan's own friends, so far) for Murdoch's money, things are looking interesting for ECW. The big feud right now is an odd couple consisting of one old friend and one old enemy of Hogan challenging him for the most prestigeous belt in the world of wrestling. But will Hogan clash with Heyman, who reportedly is unhappy about not being allowed to take ECW quite as extreme as he would like...?

Bonus info: Hogan and Murdoch did actually talk about going into the wrestling business together at one point...

WCW

Failing to sign Hogan, Bischoff had to turn elsewhere for the big star he had promised Ted Turner to help catapult the company into fiercer competition with WWF. His choice: Warrior. Warrior debuted to much fanfare in the beginning of July, winning the WCW World Heavyweight Championship against Ric Flair at Bash at The Beach in his first WCW match. Now in September, the hottest feud in WCW is Warrior and former tag team partner Sting feuding with Ric Flair and Rick Rude, whose career-threatening injury luckily turned out to be much less severe than initially feared. Fearing that Warrior's name alone would not be quite enough to elevate WCW to the desired heights, Bischoff decided to supplement Warrior's talents by bringing home some legionaires from Japan as well...

WWF

While feuding with his brother Owen, Bret "The Hitman" Hart injured his back pretty badly at a house show match against former tag team partner Jim Neidhart. It was soon apparant that Bret would need surgery and a long break, so a surprise decision was made to put the WWF World Heavyweight Championship on Owen at SummerSlam, with Owen kayfabe breaking Bret's neck during the match with a nasty looking Piledriver as a way to write Bret off TV and provide Owen legitimacy as champion. Losing their world champion to injury was not the end of WWF's bad luck however, as WWF Intercontinental Champion Diesel would also tear his quad in a match, putting him on the sidelines as well. Loosing two of his biggest stars to long-term injuries, Vince McMahon decides to sign some new (or old, depending on ones viewpoint) faces and pull "Macho Man" Randy Savage from commentary duties and bring some much-needed star power to the ring. Will Savage get his wish fulfilled for a dream match at WrestleMania against upcoming star Shawn Michaels...?

<p>A little further update on the going-ons in the three big American companies:</p><p> </p><p>

WCW will in one of their new top feuds be looking to see an eye-popping rematch between two legendary performers known around the world...</p><p> </p><p>

ECW will see two former WWF main eventers try to destroy Hulkamania before it gets a chance to really take off and might want to top it off by giving Hogan a disaster haircut...</p><p> </p><p>

WWF will see their injury crisis being surprisingly sweetened somewhat, as a wrestler thought to be out indefinetely has surprised everyone with an extremely speedy recovery, perfectly setting up a return for Survivor Series...</p>

<p>America needs President Backlund</p><p> </p><p>

Edit:</p><p>

You could make him really over and give him a special appearances contract with the WWF, you never know when the President of the United States will turn up and choke you out with the Crossface Chickenwing. You could even make the President the WWF Champion <img alt=":D" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/biggrin.png.929299b4c121f473b0026f3d6e74d189.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p>

<p>Really looking forward to this one. Fiddling around with ECW, I think you forgot to extend their TV deal as it is still 6 months (their regular 94 mod deal runs 6 months so I figure you just switched networks), and since it is with Fox which requires a National company, unless the AI can just auto-renew it (since News Corp is the owner), it is a guaranteed drop. They won't hit even Cult in 6 months unless you get a hot industry. It'd need to be at least 2 years to comfortably hit National (0.4 gain per show x 48 shows = 38.4/year with the 2nd year growing slower plus the Regional battles and PPV deals).</p><p> </p><p>

WCW still relying on Sting/Flair while WWF has to rely on Piper/Savage/Owen/HBK until Bret is back sure makes things interesting. Might need to set your leadership skill to 15 though.<img alt=";)" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/wink.png.686f06e511ee1fbf6bdc7d82f6831e53.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p>

Did Art Donovan be featured as guest commentator in the 1994 King of the Ring in that timeline? I was looking forward in a possible diary where Hulk Hogan would be scheduled to make a shoot promo against him for making befuddled comments and also criticize WWF for not telling the truth of Vinnie Mac's absence.
