GDS Fantasy Football 2016-2017

It's that time again. It's time for fantasy football!

 

I know we've had a running league in the past; however, I'm not really sure if that is still active. If not, I am more than happy to create a fantasy football league for those who are really interested in playing. I've never been a commish before, but I could research the process and create a league in the next coming days.

 

I'm thinking a 12-16 team league, depending on how much interest we're able to create. Furthermore, the 12-16 teams would be broken down into 3 or 4 divisions (all holding Cornellverse names, most likely).

 

I'm leaning toward ESPN; however, would be open to debate about any website/platform that you feel is best.

 

In the past, I feel like some of our leagues have fallen apart due to lack of motivation by the handlers. I get that having a 0-4 record doesn't really make things "all that fun." That said, I'm looking for handlers who really feel like they will put in the time and effort to make this work. I'd like a community of players who are active & competitive in nature (yet, holding a positive tone through it all).

Consider me in and ready to whoop all y'alls asses. Also, we did have a league before, but I'd say for the sake of it we should probably make a new one. Teams, I wouldn't go over 12, because after that point, it can get a bit.... bland, to me at least. Also, I throw my support to ESPN, since I feel its simply the best for fantasy football stuff. And don't worry, I won't ditch the league.

I think we will max the league at 12 active players. Also, I'm going to go ahead with ESPN as our platform. I've enjoyed using it in the past, and I think it could be a good way to go this time around.

 

It's great to see some interest so far, as well. Could you please PM me your email address so I can add you into the league? Also, if you have friends on the boards here, then fill them in on the idea. I'd really like to create a strong league that we could keep long-term.

Just feels like it rewards players on one dimensional teams too much. If Brees has thrown for 400 yards or Peterson's rushed for 150, they've already got a load of points (and if they haven't scored any TDs after all that, it's their own fault really). Giving them extra points for scoring lots of points just seems... odd, frankly.

 

PPR is great, because it means even low priority or short-yard WRs who won't necessarily get loads of yards or TDs but see the ball quite often can still earn points. It broadens the pool of useful players, whereas the other two narrows it IMO.

The 'doubling down' on points would seem a little much. With that said, I think we can move away from that notion.</p><p> </p><p> I would like to keep the PPR. No clue why it is 4. I usually play with 6 points for QB TD's, but I think the reasoning is to make QB's less overpowered and make good ones more valuable. But really, I have no bloody clue.

<em>While it can be seen as aesthetic, we will be utilizing trophies in our league. There are some that are weekly, others that are season-related, and it'll be there to separate both the good and the bad of our league. <em>Would you rather be communicating as a league through the actual league itself (within ESPN) or in a thread on the GDS boards? Both could be great, but I wanted to meet everyone where they felt comfortable. Outside of just random questions, I'm hoping to have some active conversation/strategy/trading talks/etc. via a shared community area.</em></p>

<p>I'm all for PPR. I used to run a league on Yahoo way back and for PPR I did 0.5 per catch. Sometimes 1 point per catch seems like a bit much but I'll go with the majority anyway. </p><p> </p><p>

I don't think QBs need a bonus and RBs can get the PPR bonus anyway so a rushing bonus can make them a bit OP</p><p> </p><p>

As for the question, I don't really know. It's been 4 points since I can remember. It makes sense now as we are moving back into a passing league but back when it was a running league with just a pure beastly solo back, it didn't really make sense</p>

Sounds cool EV, thanks for running this smoothly. As for communication, I suggest on here, because then we can associate with usernames and not actual names that we may not recognize. Also, running with 10 teams is perfectly okay, as it allows a wider FA talent pool. So no biggie if we can't find two more owners.
