Major League Wrestling to Relaunch 12 Years After Closing

New York City -- July 1, 2016 -- Major League Wrestling (MLW) is set to re-establish itself as the leading independent wrestling promotion in the United States. After months of negotiations, MLW owner Court Bauer was able to secure the substantial investment needed to assemble a talented roster to compete on the promotion's flagship show, MLW Fight Night, which will be taped every Monday and shown on Thursday nights on Tuff TV. Fight Night tapings will take place in the Tri-State area, with a view to expand to other areas in the near future.

"All of us here at MLW are thrilled that we've been given a second chance to make our mark on the wrestling industry," Bauer said. "Our vision for the promotion has changed somewhat since the early 2000s, but our mission is still to give the fans hard-hitting action mixed with cutting-edge storylines."

News of MLW's reboot first leaked on several media outlets last week, including Bleacher Report and WhatCulture, however, details have been sparse up to this point. With television tapings due to begin in the coming weeks, fans won't have to wait much longer for the MLW roster to be revealed. Ring of Honor (ROH) standout Adam Cole has already confirmed that he has signed a contract with MLW that will allow him to continue working with ROH.

"Court reached out to me to be a part of this project, and after listening to what he had to say, there was never any chance of me passing up on this opportunity," Cole, 27, said. "There's some very talented guys that have already signed on, and you won't be disappointed when Court reveals the rest of the roster."

During MLW's initial run from 2002 to 2004, wrestlers such as Shane Douglas, CM Punk and Steve Corino established a counter-culture mentality within the promotion that helped to develop a cult following. Financial troubles meant that MLW had to close its doors, but with new financial backing, rumored to be from Japan, MLW is looking to establish itself as a major player in the wrestling industry.

On today's Major League Wrestling podcast, MLW owner Court Bauer revealed exclusive detailed regarding his newly revived promotion. After weeks of anticipation, Bauer unveiled the MLW roster, which is headlined by names such as Cody Rhodes, Adam Cole, Gail Kim and former WWE and TNA Champion Kurt Angle.

Jim Ross: Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to Thursday Fight Night brought to you by Major League Wrestling on Tuff TV! This is Good ‘Ol JR, and with me tonight is my partner, former UFC standout Chael Sonnen!

Chael Sonnen: It’s great to be here sitting next to you on commentary JR! The fans are ready for the night to begin and they won’t have to wait much longer. But first, we turn our attention to the ring for a word from our owner and promoter.

“Take the Power Back” by Rage Against the Machine blares through the Grand Ballroom as the fans turn their attention to the entranceway. After about 15 seconds, MLW owner Court Bauer emerges and makes his way to the ring, making sure to high five some fans along the way. He enters the ring, and grabs a microphone from the ring girl and the fans chant, “MLW! MLW! MLW!”

Court Bauer: I just want to start off by saying that this is NOT your little brother’s wrestling!

Back in 2002, I had a vision of what wrestling should be, and that’s how Major League Wrestling was formed. For a couple of years, we set the standard for independent wrestling. And had some talented wrestlers compete in this very ring. Shane Douglas. Satoshi Kojima. Christopher Daniels. Homicide. Low Ki. CM Punk.

The crowd starts to chant: CM Punk! CM Punk! CM Punk!

But the ride couldn’t last forever, and due to some mistakes, we were forced to close our doors after a few short years. We’re not here to dwell on the past though! Time have changed, but the mission is still the same!

Now, wrestlers like Roderick Strong, Cody Rhodes, Gail Kim — and yes — Kurt Angle, will be putting their bodies on the line to give you the best damn wrestling on the planet!

Tonight begins a new chapter for Major League Wrestling! And what better way to write a new chapter than to kick off the MLW Heavyweight Championship Tournament?

The fans cheer loudly.

Tonight you will see three of the four first round matchups in the tournament. First, Mr. Anderson … Anderson will take on Roderick Strong. Then we have Adam Cole vs. Nick Aldis, followed by Wade Bennett and Cody Rhodes in the main event. And on the Women’s side, Gail Kim will be taking on Shanna!

Now, get ready for Major League Wrestling!

As we the show comes back from commercial, a hype video is played briefly profiling all eight competitors in the Heavyweight Championship tournament, before Mr. Anderson and Roderick Strong are make their entrances for the first match in the new MLW.

In a match that certainly exceeded expectations, Roderick Strong defeated Mr. Anderson with a sick kick after 12:32.

After the commercial break, we’re taken backstage to Brittany Lewis, who is interviewing Mr. Anderson.

Mr. Anderson: First off, it’s Mr. Anderson to you. Second, I would just like to point out that Roderick got lucky tonight –

Brittany Lewis: Ken – I mean Mr. Anderson – I’d just like to point out that there was no interference, no roll-up, nothing. Roderick pinned you right in the middle of the ring.

Mr. Anderson: Who hired you? I guarantee that I would Roderick Strong 9 times out of 10. Tonight just happened to be the one off night. And as far as I’m concerned, this interview is over. And you can go ahead and tell everyone that I’m … an asshole! How’s that for a scoop?

Afterwards, a brief video is shown hyping up the fact that Gail Kim will be in action up next.

Melissa Anderson: I hope you’re not expecting a free ride to the top like you’ve been given in the past, because that’s not happening on my watch.

Gail Kim: Excuse me?

Melissa Anderson: I’ve seen the way you’ve kissed management’s ass in the past to hold back the other girls, and I’m not letting that happen this time around. I am a future legend in this business, and it’s about time for the world to know it.

Gail Kim: Sorry to break it to you, but you’re 33 years old. Don’t you think it’s about time you gave up the “future legend” shtick? I think that ship has sailed.

Melissa Anderson: You put on a smile for the fans and they eat it up, but deep down, you’re so insecure of someone better than yourself coming in and taking your spot. Keep looking over your shoulder Gail because you have a target on your back.

With that, Melissa Anderson walks out of the locker room and Gail Kim continues to wind down from the match.

After the commercial break, Adam Cole is shown making his way to the entrance tunnel when he’s stopped by Scarlett Bordeaux.

Cole stops after hearing his name called and turns to Scarlett. She twirls her hair and moves closer to him, leaving about an inch between the two of them. She looks him up and down, clearly judging him.

With that, a cocky smirk appears on Cole’s face and as his music begins to play, he walks through the curtain.

In another good bout, with back and forth action in which Adam Cole looked particularly threatening, Nick Aldis pinned Cole in the middle of the ring connecting with the spine shaker after 13 minutes of action.

Brittany Lewis: Cody, tonight, you finally have the chance to carve out the path that you envisioned for yourself when you first got into the wrestling business, but Wade Bennett is as tough an opponent as they come. What’s your mentality heading into the match?

Cody Rhodes: Tonight is about proving the naysayers wrong, Brittany. Tonight is the night that people start to take me seriously again. I lost my way for a little bit, and there were times when I didn’t enjoy wrestling anymore. But I’ve fallen back in love with wrestling, and now there’s only one thing on my mind: making the dream come true.

With that, Cody is off to finish warming up, and the scene shifts to Court Bauer’s office. As Bauer finishes an important call, MVP walks into the office.

Bauer and MVP shake hands. It’s clear to the fans that a friendship exists there.

Court Bauer: MVP! I was just talking about you actually.

MVP: Good things I hope.

Court Bauer: Well, I just got off the phone with Kurt Angle, and he guarantees me that he’ll be here for next week’s match against you.

MVP: You ain’t gonna give your boy a BYE into the next round? Kurt and I were supposed to fight in tonight’s main event.

Court Bauer: Listen, you bring you’re A-game next week and you won’t need a BYE. Kurt might be an Olympic gold medalist, but you are MLW’s MVP!

MVP smiles at the thought of being the company’s franchise player and the money that comes along with it.

MVP: Ballin’ and shot callin’. You know how I do! I’ll see you next week Court.

With the extra bit of reassurance, MVP walks out of the office, and the scene shifts to the ring where Cody Rhodes and Wade Bennett make their entrances to a rowdy crowd who have been treated to an great night of wrestling so far.

In a good main event with back and forth action, in which neither competitor held back, Cody Rhodes pinned Wade Bennett in 14:47 after hitting the cross-rhodes for the three count.

After the match, Cody Rhodes celebrates his victory and takes a lap around the Grand Ballroom taking the time to high five some of the fans who came out to support MLW for the first ever episode of Fight Night. The camera shifts back to the commentary table one last time before the show closes out.

The opening score for Major League Wrestling Fight Night plays as the camera pans around Grand Ballroom capturing the rabid fans before settling on Jim Ross and Chael Sonnen at the commentary booth.

Jim Ross: Welcome to Major League Wrestling Fight Night on Tuff TV. I’m Jim Ross, and with me tonight is my partner Chael Sonnen. Last week, we were all blown away by the action on display during the first round of the MLW Heavyweight Championship tournament, as well as the Women’s match between Gail Kim and Shanna.

Chael Sonnen: Yes, as far as a first impression goes, it doesn’t get much better than that. All the competitors brought their A-game, and you can tell that we’re on the verge of something big here in MLW.

Jim Ross: And now ladies and gentlemen, we turn our attention to the ring!

Kurt Angle’s music plays as he makes his way to the ring. He’s clearly not in a good mood, and doesn’t even stop to acknowledge the fans on his way to the ring, despite the fact that they’re cheering his name and miming bowing down to him.

Once Angle gets situation in the ring, he grabs a mic from the ring girl and begins to talk.

Kurt Angle: I am an Olympic gold medalist who has held literally every belt worth mentioning in the wrestling industry. So Court Bauer, get your ass out here right now and explain to me why I should have to compete in any tournament. I’m doing you a favor just by being here, and you should be begging me to be the Heavyweight Champion!

Court Bauer’s music hits, and he makes his way to the ring, high fiving some fans along the way before grabbing a mic of his own and standing face-to-face with Kurt Angle.

Court Bauer: In case you haven’t heard Kurt, we don’t give handouts here in Major League Wrestling. You should be happy that I’m allowing you to keep your spot in the tournament after the shenanigans that you pulled last week.

Kurt Angle: Oh, is that so?

Court Bauer: Yes. You see, since you decided to hold up contract negotiations last week, your match with MVP was unable to go forward as scheduled. It’s a good thing you’re in your gear right now because that match is scheduled to take place right about … now.

Our first pay-per-view, Bloodspoort, is next Friday night and the fans are expecting to see a Heavyweight title match in the main event. So, if you win your match against MVP, you will have to face Roderick Strong in the semi-final in tonight’s main event!

Kurt Angle: You have to be kidding me! You can’t do that! You’ll be hearing from my lawyer!

All of this falls on deaf ears as Bauer leaves the ring and MVP’s music begins to play throughout the arena. As Bauer leaves ringside, and MVP approaches the ring, the two bump fists, while Angle continues to throw a tantrum in the ring.

Kurt Angle vs. MVP

In a good opening bout in which both sides got in an equal amount of offense, Kurt Angle defeats MVP with an Angle Slam after 9:15.

As Angle leaves the ring in disgust, despite his victory, the screen transitions to the backstage area where Adam Cole is seen suspiciously swiping right and left on his iPhone before Scarlett Bordeaux approaches him once again.

Cole is startled and jumps up at the shock of hearing his name and quickly tucks his phone in his pocket.

Adam Cole: Oh, it’s just you Charlotte –

Scarlett interrupts him mid-sentence to correct him.

Scarlett Bordeaux: Scarlett.

Adam Cole: Right, Scarlett. That’s what I meant to say.

Scarlett Bordeaux: Anyway… Sorry about your match last week. You were doing so well, I thought you had him beat.

Adam Cole: Yeah, ummm… see what happened was, I didn’t stretch enough before the match. And I just started to cramp up towards the end. Yeah, that’s it… cramps.

Scarlett observes him, clearly not believing his excuse for losing to Nick Aldis last week, but still interested nonetheless.

Scarlett Bordeaux: Right. Well, if you need help stretching out before your matches, I’d be more than glad to help.

With that, Scarlett walks off, and Cole takes in the view, before pulling his phone back out and going back to swiping left and right. As the camera fades away from the scene, Cody Rhodes is shown making his way to the ring, followed by Nick Aldis, the man who beat Adam Cole in the first round last week.

Considering that Rhodes and Aldis have never fought before, the two displayed great chemistry with one another to put on a good bout for the fans. In the end, Cody Rhodes was able to hit the Cross-Rhodes for the finish after 11:21.

I won an Olympic gold medal with a broken freakin’ neck! Guys like MVP and Roderick Strong, don’t mean anything to me. This seems to be all Hernandez and Homicide need to hear, as the two look at each other and nod before leaving Bauer to tend to his business. Once Fight Night returns from commercial, Roderick Strong makes his way to the ring, and Kurt Angle follows suit afterwards.

The main event was a superb technical showing, and despite having wrestler just 45 minutes before, Kurt Angle showed no signs of slowing down. With Strong on the floor outside of the ring, and Angle arguing with the ref inside of the ring, Mr. Anderson came out to ringside and hit Strong with a Mic Check before tossing him back in the ring. Unaware of what went on, Kurt Angle lifts Strong up for an Angle Slam to seal the victory after 14:48.

The opening score for Major League Wrestling Fight Night plays around the Grand Ballroom capturing the rabid fans before settling on Jim Ross and Chael Sonnen at the commentary booth.

Jim Ross: Welcome to another edition of Fight Night, brought to you by Major League Wrestling. As always, this is Good Ol’ JR, and this is my partner-in-crime Chael Sonnen.

Chael Sonnen: Ladies and gentlemen, we have an action-packed night for you. Last week we saw Kurt Angle and Cody Rhodes punch their tickets to the final of the Heavyweight Championship tournament, and tonight promises to be another great night of wrestling.

Jim Ross: And with that, we turn our attention the to the ring for some tag team action.

Local workers Gran Akuma and Craig Classic are already in the ring, as Homicide and Hernandez make their way to the ring for their MLW debut.

Craig Classic and Gran Akuma vs. LAX (Homicide and Hernandez)

In an underwhelming opening matchup that served its purpose, LAX defeated Craig Classic and Gran Akuma after 3:36 after Hernandez hit Craig Classic with a Border Toss. Despite the squash nature of the match, Homicide stood out above the other workers in the ring.

As LAX celebrate and trash talk to the crowd on their way to the back, the action shifts to the back where Court Bauer is seen speaking with Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa.

Court Bauer: You guys don’t know how happy I am to have you be a part of MLW’s tag team division.

Johnny Gargano: We’re happy that you’re giving us this opportunity, Court. MLW is gonna be something special, and we want to make our mark in this company.

Tommaso Ciampa: Speaking of making our mark – when are you gonna give us some news on the Tag Team titles.

Court Bauer: Well, that’s why I asked to speak with you both. If you win your match tonight against Jesse Sorensen and Tony Nese, you two will face Homicide and Hernandez at Bloodsport to determine the first ever MLW Tag Team Champions.

Gargano and Ciampa smile and high five one another.

Tomasso Ciampa: That’s what we’re talkin’ about!

Court Bauer: So, you two go get ready for your match, and hopefully the fans will get a chance to see you both compete for some gold at Bloodsport.

With that, Bauer walks off and Gargano and Ciampa walk in the opposite direction to go get ready for their match.

After a quick commercial break, we’re taken to the media room where Brittany Lewis is standing by with Melissa Anderson.

Brittany Lewis: Ladies and gentlemen, I’m here with Melissa Anderson. Melissa, two weeks ago we saw you and Gail Kim get into a war of words in the women’s locker room. You implied that Gail Kim used her seniority to hold others back and told her to watch herself. What did you mean by that?

Melissa delays for a moment, a look of scorn in her eyes before finally speaking.

Melissa Anderson: Years ago, I watched as Gail Kim used her pull with management before leaving town the moment she was offered a bigger paycheck. Gail is nothing but a mercenary, but you all don’t need me to tell you that. She’s already been exposed on the national stage. And when the going got rough, she went right back to doing what she does best: holding others back. Well it looks like karma’s a bitch Gail! Just last week, TNA gave you your walking papers because they realize how much of a fraud you are! And after I expose you for the world to see, the only thing left to do will be to put the old horse out of her misery!

With that, Melissa Anderson walks off.

Brittany Lewis: Powerful words from Melissa Anderson. Now, we take you back to the ring for more in-ring action.

The camera moves back to the ring where Candice LeRae and Rachael Ellering make their entrances.

In a subpar bout, Candice LeRae defeated Rachael Ellering with an Inverted Frankensteiner after 7:32.

As Candice celebrates, we’re taken back to the commentary table.

Jim Ross: Ladies and gentlemen, we have some news about the card for the Bloodsport pay-per-view. Two independent wrestling legends, Chris Hero and Low Ki will make their MLW debuts against one another in an exhibition match. Also, Aaron Stevens will make a guest appearance on pay-per-view as he takes on MLW’s own, Adam Cole.

And finally, Court Bauer has delivered the news that the women athletes of MLW have been waiting for. There will be a Women’s Championship match this Friday night at Bloodsport.

Chael Sonnen: That’s right JR, three women are being rewarded for getting off to a hot start in MLW. On Friday night, tonight’s winner, Candice LeRae, will be taking on Gail Kim and Melissa Anderson to crown the first ever MLW Women’s Champion.

Jim Ross: Congratulations ladies — you deserve it!

From there, the camera goes backstage to MVP’s locker room. As MVP checks his phone, Court Bauer walks in.

Court Bauer: MVP!

MVP looks up from his phone.

MVP: My man, Court Bauer! What’s good, homie?

Court Bauer: Listen, I know last week was tough coming so close, but falling short to Kurt Angle, but I have an offer I think you’ll be interested in.

MVP: I’m all ears, my brotha.

Court Bauer: So, there’s going to be a second chance three-way match at the pay-per-view. Nick Aldis and Wade Bennett have already accepted the first two spots, but the third spot is still up for grabs.

MVP: You already know!

Court Bauer: I knew I could count on you! Good luck on Friday night.

The two shake hands, and Bauer makes his way out of the locker room. When Bauer is out of earshot, MVP cracks a smile on his face and whispers to himself:

MVP: BALLIN’!

From there, the action moves back to the ring as Jesse Sorensen and Tony Nese make their entrance, followed by Tommaso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano.

Premier Athletes (Jesse Sorensen and Tony Nese) vs. Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa

In an average match, Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa defeated Jesse Sorensen and Tony Nese in 11:10. Gargano was the standout performer of the match, and capped of his performance with a Swinging Reverse STO, followed by the three count.

As Gargano and Ciampa celebrate earning a Tag Team title shot in the ring, Homicide and Hernandez run into the ring from the crowd and attack Gargano and Ciampa from behind, leaving them lying flat in the middle of the ring.

As LAX leave the ring to a chorus of boos, the action moves backstage where Roderick Strong is lacing up his boots for the main event. Just as he gets ready to make his way to the tunnel, Mr. Anderson walks into the room.

Mr. Anderson: Hey Roddy! How’s it going?? Oh man, you don’t look too good. Something the matter?

A smile creeps up on Strong’s face.

Mr. Anderson: You look awfully happy for someone who got his ass handed to him last week. You were soooooo close to competing for the title at Bloodsport. So. Close.

Strong starts to laugh.

Mr. Anderson: I’m glad you see the humor in all this. See, I thought you’d be mad at me for costing you a title shot. Good to know we’re good.

Roderick Strong: Court hasn’t told you yet has he?

Mr. Anderson: What? Told me what? Why are you so happy?

The smile disappears from Strong’s face.

Roderick Strong: Tomorrow night at Bloodsport, you’re facing … me. But don’t worry — wasn’t it you that said you could beat me nine times out of ten?

Strong smiles again and pats Anderson sarcastically on the shoulder, as he walks off for his match.

In an excellent TV main event, Roderick Strong defeated Doug Williams after 11:55 with End of Heartache. The two showed excellent chemistry in the ring, and the fans enjoyed the technical wrestling on display.

After the commercial break, Court Bauer stands in the middle of the ring with a microphone in one hand and the MLW Heavyweight Championship gleaming on his shoulder.

Court Bauer: Considering that this will be the match to determine first ever Heavyweight Champion of the new MLW, it’s only appropriate that both competitors come to the ring for a contract signing. Ladies and gentleman, Cody Rhodes!

Rhodes makes his way to the ring, passively high fiving some fans along the way, but clearly focused on the prize on the owner’s shoulder.

And the man that he will be facing for the belt this Friday night, the Olympic gold medalist, Kurt Angle!

Angle makes his way to the ring, clearly still ticked off from what he had to go through to book his place in the final. Once he gets in the ring, he and Rhodes stand toe-to-toe and stare each other down.

Easy gentleman, save it for Bloodsport. Do either of you have any final words before the big fight?

Kurt Angle: Cody, I’ve seen a lot of your matches, and I’ll be straight up: I respect you. You can flat out go in the ring, and you might well be the next big in thing in wrestling. But I’m Kurt freakin’ Angle. You’ve never been up against anyone of my caliber — an Olympic gold medalist. And at Bloodsport — Cody — I’m gonna make you tap! I’m gonna snap your ankle in half. The dream ends here, kid. Oh it’s true. It’s damn true!

Cody Rhodes: That was cute, Kurt. You seem to think that, at your age, you can hang with me. I’m stronger, faster and better than you, Kurt. Yes, you’re one of the greatest to ever lace up a pair of boots, but your time is up! The dream doesn’t end here Kurt — at least not for me. The dream is only beginning!

With that, both men sign the contract for the title bout, before resuming their staredown.

Court Bauer: There you have it folks. Kurt Angle vs. Cody Rhodes for the MLW Heavyweight Championship is official! Tune in tomorrow night on pay-per-view for Bloodsport! I guarantee you won’t want to miss it. Goodnight everyone!

A small pyro shower goes off in in Hammerstein Ballroom, as the camera pans throughout the arena, before settling on the increasingly familiar announce duo of Jim Ross and Chael Sonnen.

Jim Ross: Welcome to Major League Wrestling’s first ever pay-per-vew event, Bloodsport! I’m Good Ol' JR, and with me as always is my partner Chael Sonnen.

Chael Sonnen: Tonight is the night that Major League Wrestling puts itself on the map. We have so many enticing matchups on the card tonight. The Women’s Championship match, Chris Hero vs. Low-Ki and of course the MLW Heavyweight Championship match between Kurt Angle and Cody Rhodes. Even I can’t contain my excitement, JR.

Jim Ross: Well I have some good news for you, partner — you won’t have to any longer. Let’s turn our attention to the ring for the opening bout of tonight’s show.

“Nothing can stop me, I’m all the way up!” MVP’s entrance music blares through Hammerstein Ballroom as he makes his way down to the ring for the three way number one contender’s match.

Minutes later, Nick Aldis makes his own entrance, followed by Wade Bennett.

No. 1 Contender’s Match

In a decent opening bout, Wade Bennett pinned Nick Aldis after 11:57. Aldis fell victim to the Bull Hammer, which was a fitting finish to a contest in which Bennett visibly carried the other two competitors from start to finish.

As Bennett celebrates becoming the number one contender, the camera shifts backstage where Brittany Lewis is about to interview Kurt Angle ahead of his big main event match against Cody Rhodes.

Brittany Lewis: Kurt, tonight you face Cody Rhodes in the main event for the Major League Wrestling Heavyweight Championship. Do you feel any pressure ahead of tonight’s match?

Kurt Angle: Pressure? Is that an actual question? Do you know who I am? I'm Kurt Angle! Amateur wrestling champion. Olympic gold medalist. WWE Champion. TNA Champion. IWGP Champion. Cody Rhodes can only hope to accomplish half of what I’ve accomplished, and he should consider it an honor when I make him tap out in the middle of the ring tonight.

Kurt walks away to continue warming up for his match.

Brittany Lewis: Kurt Angle vs. Cody Rhodes for the MLW Heavyweight Championship is your pay-per-view main event. Now back to the ring for some tag team action.

As the action moves back to the ring, Tommaso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano make their entrance, and it looks like they’re hyped up and ready to go. Their opponents, Homicide and Hernandez, follow them shortly afterwards looking calm, cool, collected and ready for a fight.

MLW Tag Team Championship

In a good match that kept the crowd warm and displayed some back-and-forth tag team action, Johnny Gargano sealed the victory with a swinging reverse STO on Homicide, followed by the pinfall after 12:44.

Gargano and Ciampa embrace as they’re referee presents them with the tag team gold. As they make their way to the back, the screen switches backstage to Scarlett Bordeaux, who seems to have been successful in courting Adam Cole and is helping him prepare for his match. Cole is looking hyped up and ready for a fight.

Scarlett Bordeaux: Did the stretching help this time?

Adam Cole: Oh yeah. Definitely.

Cole says with a smirk on his face.

You should help me with my pre-match stretching more often. You know… to keep me loose.

Scarlett Bordeaux: As long as you have me in your corner, nothing is stopping you from being the greatest champion this business has ever seen. Just remember that, Adam.

Adam Cole: Are you saying you want to be in my corner tonight?

Scarlett Bordeaux: That decision’s already been made.

Scarlett leads the way out of the locker room, and Cole follows suit — but not before stopping to enjoy the view.

“Something for You” by David Rolfe begins to play in the arena as Cole makes his way to the ring with his new manager. He’s soon followed by his opponent, Aaron Stevens, who is making a special appearance in MLW.

Cole and Stevens put together a decent match that ended after 11:30 when Cole connected with the Florida Key. Having Scarlett in his corner to help him spot an opening on Stevens proved to be crucial in sealing the victory for Cole.

Scarlett raises Cole’s arm in victory as they leave the ring. Once they’ve disappeared from ringside, a dejected looking Stevens heads to the back too, stopping to high five some fans along the way.

Once, he’s out of sight, Mr. Anderson’s music begins to play and he makes his way to the ring. The arena goes black, with a sole spotlight on Anderson in the middle of the ring and a microphone being lowered from the ceiling.

Mr. Anderson: Ladies and gentlemen, you are about to witness greatness. You are looking at the man who will beat Roderick Strong so bad, that he’ll never show his face here in Major League Wrestling again. He weighs in tonight at 243 pounds … He hails from Green. Bay. Wisconsiiiiiiiiiin … Miiiiiiiiissttteeeeeeer. Andersoooooooooooooon ………… Ande —

Before Anderson can get out his last syllable, Roderick Strong’s music begins to play, and the lights come back on in the arena as Strong makes his way to the ring for another encounter with Anderson.

Anderson and Strong put on a decent match that failed to live up to the excitement of their previous encounter. Strong connected with a Gibson Driver after 16:28 to prove that he is better than Anderson once and for all.

As Strong makes his way to the back, we’re taken back to Brittany Lewis who is standing by with Cody Rhodes.

Brittany Lewis: Cody, you heard what Kurt had to say earlier in the night. How do you respond to that?

Cody Rhodes: How do I respond? The only way I know how. Kurt Angle says a lot of things, but at the end of the day, I’m gonna do my talking in the ring. I know that, tonight, if Kurt’s on his A-game, and I’m on mine … then I’m coming out on top. Kurt’s time has passed him by, but he continues to hang on to his past glories. No one can top his accomplishments. But that’s all in the past. His story has been written. Tonight, begins the next chapter of mine.

Brittany Lewis: Thank you so much for your time, Cody and good luck in tonight’s main event.

Cody nods and walks off as a video package begins to play.

The video replays the last three weeks of women’s action of MLW with Gail Kim, Melissa Anderson and Candice LeRae all coming out victorious against their opponents, setting up tonight’s three way bout for the Women’s Championship.

After the video ends, LeRae, Kim and Anderson all make their way to the ring to determine the alpha female of MLW.

MLW Women’s Championship

The three women put together a decent bout, but it was evident that LeRae was a step behind her opponents, both of whom have years of experience on her. In the end, LeRae fell victim to Gail Kim’s Eat Defeat and had her shoulders pinned to the mat for the pinfall after 10:53.

After the match, Melissa Anderson looks on in disgust as Gail Kim is presented with the Women’s Championship, which is an adapted version of the classic Big Gold Belt.

As Gail Kim continues to celebrate, another video package is played, this time hyping the debut of both Chris Hero and Low Ki.

In a great match that will be on MLW “Best of” DVDs for years to come, Chris Hero defeated Low Ki with a Super Hero’s Welcome after 12:11 of action.

As Hero leaves the ring, followed by Low Ki soon after, the crowd is absolutely hyped for the main event match to decide the first ever MLW Heavyweight Champion.

Before the match, a video package replays the action of the past three weeks in MLW, including footage from the quarterfinal and semifinal rounds of the tournament.

When the video ends, Cody Rhodes music blasts through the arena as the crowd cheers him on his way to the ring. As Rhodes waits in the ring, he looks directly towards the entranceway, awaiting the emergence of his opponent. After a moment of suspense, the Olympic gold medalist, Kurt Angle, makes his way to the ring.

Rhodes and Angle stare each other down in the ring before the ring announcer begins:

“The following contest is scheduled for one fall and is for the Major League Wrestling Heavyweight Championship. First, from Marietta, Georgia, weighing in tonight at 220 pounds, Cody Rhodes!

And his opponent, from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, weighing in tonight at 240 pounds, Kurt Angle!”

The crowd voices their appreciation for both competitors, and just like that, the bell rings for the first ever Heavyweight Championship match.

The crowd really did their part in playing up to the big fight atmosphere and it made the match all the more special. In a match that had good, back and forth in-ring action, Kurt Angle made good on his promise and made Cody Rhodes tap out to the Ankle Lock after 19:05.

As Cody Rhodes leaves the ring in defeat, Kurt Angle is showered with streamers as Court Bauer presents him with the MLW Heavyweight Championship. Angle grabs the belt, and tells Bauer to get out of “his” ring, before finally raising his arms in victory.

Before the show closes, we are taken back to Jim Ross and Chael Sonnen on commentary.

Jim Ross: Well there you have it folks, the first MLW pay-per-view is in the books, and Kurt Angle has risen to the top of the mountain to become the Heavyweight Champion. Tune in next Thursday night to see the fallout of Bloodsport. Goodnight everyone!

As always, the show opens with the camera capturing the audience from various points in the arena, before finally making its way to the commentary table where Jim Ross and Chael Sonnen open the show.

Jim Ross: This is Thursday Fight Night brought to you by Major League Wrestling. I’m Jim Ross, and this is my partner Chael Sonnen. This is the first show since the Bloodsport pay-per-view held at the Hammerstein Ballroom last Friday night, an event that had wrestling fans and critics alike buzzing about what’s to come in MLW.

Chael Sonnen: Yeah, at Bloodsport we saw hard hitting action that you just won’t find anywhere else. I was thoroughly impressed with the card from top to bottom. But my favorite part about the whole show is that we finally crowned the inaugural class of champions in the newly re-established MLW.

Jim Ross: Speaking of champions, we direct our attention to ringside as the MLW Heavyweight Champion makes his way to the ring to address the fans.

Kurt Angle’s music fills the arena, and he makes his way down to the ring with the MLW Heavyweight Championship resting on his shoulder. Once he’s in the ring, the MLW ring girl hands him a microphone and he begins to speak.

Kurt Angle: Oh it’s real, it’s DAMN real!

Last week at Bloodsport, I proved once and for all why I am the best wrestler to ever lace up a pair of boots. Court Bauer did everything he could to make sure that I wouldn’t walk out of the Hammerstein Ballroom as champion, but in the end I’m standing here at the first ever MLW Heavyweight Champion.

Cody Rhodes — Cody, I’ll give you some credit. You put up a hell of a fight and you tried your best … But your best just wasn’t good enough! The dream is over, kid. So now you can get to the back of the line behind all the other scrubs in the back and wait for your turn to come again. And if your time ever does come again, guess what? I’ll make your ass tap out … again.

You can’t hang in the ring with me! No one in the back can hang with me. No one’s ever going to beat me for this title, and only time any of you will get you in the back will get your grubby little hands on it is when I’m dead. And even then, I could probably still beat each and every one of you!

At that moment, number one contender Wade Bennett’s music plays. Angle looks on in disgust as Bennett walks down the aisle having dared to interrupt him. He too is handed a microphone from the ring girl.

Wade Bennett: I haven’t said this in a while, but … unfortunately, I’ve got some bad news for you, Kurt.

Kurt Angle: That’s real cute.

Wade Bennett: You see, I’m the number one contender for the championship, and when we finally meet one-on-one, I don’t plan on losing to you, mate.

Kurt Angle: What gives you the right to stand in the same ring as me? I’ve been a champion everywhere I’ve wrestled. And you, I don’t even know who you are!

Wade Bennett: Who am I? Who am I? I’m Wade f***ing Bennett. I’ve beaten fighters who are a damn sight tougher than you and would have you running home to go crying in your mummy’s lap after one punch. And when we finally step in the ring together, I’m going to slice that bald head of yours open and show no mercy as you bleed to death while I stand over you as the new Heavyweight Champion.

With that, Bennett exits the ring, and makes his way to the back, not paying any mind as Angle mouths obscenities at him.

After a brief commercial interruption, Kenny King and Cedric Alexander make their way to the ring, full of swagger, stopping to high five a few members of the crowd, before being followed by their opponents, Jesse Sorensen and Tony Nese.

Hustle & Flow (Kenny King and Cedric Alexander) vs. Premier Athletes (Jesse Sorensen and Tony Nese)

Despite the energy from King and Alexander as they tried to hype the fans up for a night of action, the opening bout left a lot to be desired. Despite having never teamed together before, King and Alexander showed excellent understanding of one another’s game, and it paid off in the end as King was able to connect with the Coronation on Sorensen after 7:13 of action.

As King and Alexander celebrate what is hopefully their first of many wins as a tandem, the action moves backstage where Kurt Angle barges into Court Bauer’s office.

Court Bauer: Calm down, Kurt. Despite what you may think, the entire world isn’t out to get you.

Kurt Angle: Is that so? Well you could have fooled me!

Court Bauer: Listen, if you’re going to be wearing that belt and representing this brand, you better start acting like a champion! A champion doesn’t go around whining like you do. You’re mad that Bennett interrupted you? Make sure something like that doesn’t happen again … in the ring. That’s why we’re all here! To see the biggest matchups and the best damn wrestling on the planet!

Kurt Angle: See, that’s where you’re wrong. I’m just here, to show the world that there’s not another wrestler out there fit to lace my boots, something I’ve proved time and time again … What happens to Bennett after I’m done with him is on your conscious, Bauer.

A furious Angle walks away as Bauer looks on in disappointment. The screen then transitions to a brief sit down interview conducted over the weekend between Jim Ross and MLW Women’s Champion, Gail Kim.

Jim Ross: I’m here with newly crowned MLW Women’s Champion, and one of the greatest competitors of all time in any Women’s division, Gail Kim. Thanks for joining me today, Gail.

Gail Kim: Thanks for having me JR. It’s always a pleasure speaking with you.

Jim Ross: Gail, at Bloodsport, you bested both Candice LeRae and Melissa Anderson to stand atop the summit of the Women’s division, but you get the feeling that the story between you and Anderson isn’t over just yet.

Gail Kim: Melissa seems to think that I’ve somehow held her back in the past, but the fact of the matter is, she’s the only person to blame for being held back. She can’t expect to be a champion with that attitude of hers. You get the impression that she thinks the world owes her something, but if that’s her mentality, she won’t get very far in this promotion, especially not when you have girls who give it their all, like Candice LeRae, that are also working their way to the top.

Jim Ross: Melissa touched on a few sore spots over the past few weeks, namely your release from TNA after years of service. How do you respond to something like that?

Gail, still visibly shaken from her recent release from TNA hesitates for a moment.

Gail Kim: I don’t have a doubt in my mind that I’m the best women’s wrestler in the world. My time in TNA was amazing, but if they want to go in another direction, that’s their call to make. For Melissa to make that apart of this rivalry though … it’s just low. If she wants a fight, she knows where to find me, and I’ll take great pleasure in making her think twice before she opens her mouth.

Jim Ross: I for one, am interested in seeing you both in a one-on-one matchup. Well Gail, it was a pleasure, and best of luck to you as the Women’s Champion.

Gail Kim: Thank you, JR.

The show moves back to the ring as Melissa Anderson gets ready to square off against Shanna.

In a decent match, Melissa Anderson pinned Shanna after 8:32 after a Kudo Driver.

After the match, Anderson reaches for a microphone and responds to Gail Kim’s interview that was shown before the match.

And once I beat you, I’ll expose you for the fraud you really are, and you’ll have nowhere left to turn!

With that, Melissa throws the mic on the ground with such venom and makes her exit from the arena.

Once the defeated Shanna has left ringside, Tommaso Ciampa makes his way to the ring, and is soon met by his opponent on the night, Homicide.

Tommaso Ciampa vs. Homicide

Ciampa and Homicide put together an average bout, and near the end of the bout, a collision left both men down in the middle of the ring, with referee Justin King knocked out as well. Seeing this opening, Hernandez ran to the ring and hit Ciampa with a Border Toss before positioning Homicide on top of him just as King was coming to. Homicide secured the pinfall victory after 10:03.

As Hernandez collects Homicide and the two depart from ringside, the camera moves backstage where Brittany Lewis is standing by with Cody Rhodes.

Brittany Lewis: I’m here with Cody Rhodes, who will be competing in tonight’s main event with Low Ki. Cody, you had your shot at having your name written in the MLW history books, but ultimately came up short against Kurt Angle. Do you have anything to say about the match?

Cody Rhode: At Bloodsport, I gave it my all, but my all wasn’t good enough and I’m man enough to admit that. Kurt Angle’s right — he was better than me last Friday night, but he’s also wrong. You see, he thinks that just because I didn’t win at Bloodsport that that dream is supposedly over, but that’s not the case. The dream is alive and well, and no setback, big or small, is going to stop me from having my hand raised as champion in the near future! Tonight against Low Ki is the beginning of another chapter in a book that ends with me becoming the MLW Heavyweight Champion.

Rhodes walks off for his match, and Lewis focuses her attention back to the camera.

Brittany Lewis: Cody Rhodes will be in action against Low Ki in tonight’s main event, coming to you up next!

After the commercial break, we’re taken back to the ring where Cody Rhodes makes his entrance, and is soon followed by Low Ki, coming off an excellent debut match against Chris Hero at Bloodsport, despite coming out on the losing end.

In good main event that feature back and forth action with both competitors getting a fair amount of offense, Cody Rhodes was able to put away Low Ki after 14:23 with a Cross Rhodes.

The bell rings after Cody’s victory, and he begins to make his way from ringside as the show draws nears its conclusion. Once at the top of the aisle, he turns back to face the ring with a determined look on his face, and the screen fades to black, thus concluding the first episode following the Bloodsport pay-per-view.</div></td></tr></tbody></table>

Jim Ross: Welcome to another broadcast of Major League Wrestling Fight Night on Tuff TV! This is Good Ol’ JR, and I’m sitting next to my partner, Chael Sonnen, ready to tonight’s action for you.

Chael Sonnen: Last week, we saw the fallout from Bloodsport. That faceoff between MLW Champion Kurt Angle and the number one contender for the belt, Wade Bennett … does it get any better that that, JR?

Jim Ross: You’ll be hard pressed to find that level of intensity anywhere else, partner. Now we turn our attention to the ring as we start the night off with in-ring action.

With that, Roderick Strong’s music begins to play and he makes his way to the ring, stopping to acknowledge a few fans along the way. Alexander Hammerstone, who is making his MLW in-ring debut, makes his entrance shortly after.

Wade Bennett: Look, I don’t want to wait any longer than I have to for this title match. I want it as soon as possible.

Court Bauer: This isn’t just any ordinary match. This is you against Kurt Angle for the title. That’s something that needs to be on a big stage like pay-per-view.

Wade Bennett: Well, the bad news, Mr. Bauer, is that I don’t quit give a rat’s arse about your bottom line. I’m the next in line for the title, and I don’t fancy waiting until October to knock Kurt Angle’s teeth out.

Bauer contemplates for a moment before making a decision.

Court Bauer: You know what, I’ll let you have your way. Next week, for the first time ever, the MLW Heavyweight Championship will be defended here on Tuff TV. How about that?

Wade Bennett: I’m glad you’ve seen reason. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’d best get ready for the match you have me in later on tonight.

Bennett leaves the scene, satisfied about getting his way and having the title match moved forward to next week’s Fight Night broadcast.

From there, a video hyping up the next match, Women’s Champion, Gail Kim against up-and-comer Deonna Purrazzo, is shown before a commercial break. After the commercial, Purrazo makes her way to the ring and is then followed by Gail Kim.

Gail Kim celebrates at the bottom of the aisle with her back turned to the entrance and belt raised in the air. Just as she turns around to make her way to the back, she sees Melissa Anderson making her way down the aisle, presumably for a sneak attack. As Anderson is stopped in her tracks, Kim motions to her to ‘bring it,’ but Anderson thinks twice about it. The two glare at each other from a distance, but as Kim begins to make her way towards Anderson, Anderson retreats.

We then transition from the Women’s Champion to the Heavyweight Champion as Kurt Angle stands by with Brittany Lewis for an interview.

Brittany Lewis: I’m here with Major League Wrestling Heavyweight Champion Kurt Angle. Kurt, earlier tonight we learned that you’ll be defending your championship against Wade Bennett in a week’s time, here in the Spiro Sports Center. Are you caught off guard by this announcement at all?

Kurt Angle: No. No, I’m not. Fact of the matter is that Court Bauer’s been out to get me all along. From making me wrestle two matches on my first night, to giving me just a week’s notice for a title defense that was supposed to happen at the next pay-per-view. I’m the reason that MLW sells out arena’s every night, and this is how Bauer repays me?

Brittany Lewis: It seems like you’re concerned about the timing of the bout.

Kurt Angle: Concerned? We could have the title match right this very moment and I would come out on top. There’s no chance of Wade Bennett beating me ever, and the quicker we get this match over with, the quicker I can run through the rest of the locker room. There is no one on my level here … NO ONE!

Angle walks off, thus concluding the interview.

Brittany Lewis: Next week, Kurt Angle defends his title against Wade Bennett, but tonight, Wade Bennett faces off against Low Ki in the main event.

After the interview, the action returns to the ring where Homicide and Hernandez are set to take on the team of TJ Perkins and Drew Gulak, collectively known as the Catch Club.

In a decent tag team encounter, Homicide pinned TJ Perkins after 12:21, using the Cop Killa to get the three count and help them stay in contention for the Tag Team Championship.

As LAX celebrate their victory, the action moves backstage to Adam Cole and Scarlett Bordeaux, who are making their first appearance since Cole’s victory over Aaron Stevens at Bloodsport. Adam is on his phone once again, this time walking around aimlessly with his head down and swiping up on his screen.

A clearly irritated Scarlett has had enough and grabs the phone from Adam’s hand.

Adam Cole: What’d you do that for? I was so close to catching it!

Scarlett Bordeaux: Listen, you’re a former ROH Champion! You should be getting booked in main events, not playing on your phone while has-beens like Kurt Angle and Wade Bennett hog the spotlight — your spotlight!

Cole nods his head in agreement.

Adam Cole: You know what, you’re right! Next week, I’m going out there and I’m forcing my way onto the show.

Scarlett Bordeaux: That’s what I wanna hear. You’re here to be a champion, not to play games.

With that, the two collect their things and make their way out of the locker room. The screen then transitions to Brittany Lewis standing next to Wade Bennett ahead of his warmup match against Low Ki.

Brittany Lewis: I’m here with Wade Bennett who not only has a main event match tonight, but a main event championship match with Kurt Angle on next week’s Fight Night broadcast. Wade, what’s going through your head right now?

Wade Bennett: I’ll tell you what’s going through my head. One week from this very moment I’ll be the MLW Heavyweight Champion. I’ll knock Kurt Angle in his bloody face, pin him on the mat 1,2,3 and stand before you all as the best in this business.

Brittany Lewis: It seems like you’re focused on next week, but have you still have to fight Low Ki tonight. Has the possibility of losing crossed your mind? What would that do for your confidence heading into the title match?

Wade Bennett: And now I see why the other wrestlers make fun of you, Brittany. I’m not losing tonight. It’s as simple as that, really. Now do you have any other questions for me? Or can I be on my merry way now?

Brittany Lewis: I guess that concludes this interview. Wade Bennett will be taking on Low Ki in your TV main event, up next.

Bennett walks away from the interview, as the show goes to one more commercial break. After the break, Low Ki makes his way to the ring for his second main event in a row, followed by Wade Bennett, who is looking more confident than normal ahead of this bout.

Low Ki vs. Wade Bennett

In a main event match that had good wrestling, and a decently engaged crowd, Wade Bennett defeated Low Ki in 15:06 after connected with a Bull Hammer for the three count. Bennett’s cockiness nearly cost him the match as Low Ki was able to take control of the match for an extended period after getting him off his feet. In the end, Bennett looked strong in the bout and now looks towards his title match next week.

Major League Wrestling Fight Night takes place once again from the Spiro Sports Center in Staten Island, New York as the show opens with the camera getting several shots of members of the crowd before making its way to Jim Ross and Chael Sonnen.

Jim Ross: Welcome to perhaps the biggest broadcast of MLW Fight Night to date! I’m Jim Ross, and this is my partner Chael Sonnen. Chael, tonight, the Heavyweight Championship is on the line as Wade Bennett takes on the current champion, Kurt Angle.

Chael Sonnen: Honestly JR, I can’t wait for tonight’s main event. We’ve got two hard hitters who’ll stop at nothing to be champion, and it’s sure to be a match that the fans will be talking about for a long time.

Jim Ross: I agree wholeheartedly with you, partner. We’ll see Kurt Angle vs. Wade Bennett in the main event. But we still have a full plate of action to get to before the main event.

The camera moves to the entryway as Adam Cole’s music begins to play and he makes his way to the ring with Scarlett Bordeaux at his side, looking determined, and not bothering with the fans at ringside. Once in the ring, he requests a microphone and addresses the MLW crowd for the first time.

Adam Cole: I was the first wrestler to sign a contract with MLW, yet I’m being overlooked by management. I don’t have a title around my waist like I should; I’m not in any of the big matches — hell — sometimes I’m not even on the card.

Scarlett nods in approval as Cole continues.

I’m being forced to take a backseat while rejects and has-beens take the spotlight away from franchise players such as myself, but today, that all changes. So to anyone in the back — anyone — I’m issuing an open challenge to prove that I’m the best damn thing going in wrestling today!

There’s a silence in the arena as Cole waits on a potential opponent, until finally music begins to fill the arena. Joel Redman makes his way to ringside, and as the camera zeroes in on Adam Cole, he looks thoroughly disappointed, as if he was expecting someone of a higher caliber to answer the challenge.

Once Redman gets into the ring, he grabs the microphone abruptly from Cole’s hand.

A smirk appears on Cole’s face before he cheap shots Redman right in the jaw, knocking him to the ground before he bell rings.

Wade Bennett: Tonight is my opportunity to become champion and destroy Kurt Angle in the middle of the ring while doing so. It’s as simple as that. After I’ve beaten him to a bloody pulp, I’ll see to it that he kisses my foot like the peasant that he is, and then I’ll embark on a championship reign the like of which has never been seen before now. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I must be going now.

Bennett walks away, this time without insulting Lewis.

After the commercial break, one half of the Tag Team Champions, Tommaso Ciampa, makes his way to the ring for another match, this time with Hernandez, who cost him in his last outing against Homicide.

Tommaso Ciampa vs. Hernandez

In a classic case of an eye for an eye, Johnny Gargano made his way to ringside causing a distraction for Hernandez. As Hernandez began barking at Gargano from the ring, he succumbed to a quick roll up from Ciampa after 10:21.

As Gargano and Ciampa celebrate getting even with LAX, a video promo begins to play featuring Cody Rhodes, who as last in action two weeks ago. The promo features various clips from Cody’s fledgling independent career, with Cody’s voice in the background.

Cody Rhodes: I’ll stop at nothing to prove that I have what it takes to be the very best in this business. My whole career, people have doubted me, told me that I only got to where I was because of my name. But those things are what keep me motivated and make me want to be better each and every day. For a time, a fell out of love with wrestling, but my time in MLW has re-ignited that flame inside me. I’ve had to work for everything I’ve ever gotten, and when I finally make it to the top of the mountain in MLW, it’ll be that more satisfying.

Brittany Lewis: This is Brittany Lewis once again, and standing next to me is none other than Chris Hero, who is making his first appearance on Fight Night. Chris you and Low Ki tore the house down at Bloodsport a few weeks ago, which begs the question: what’s next for you in MLW?

Chris Hero: What’s next is most likely what everyone has been waiting to hear. Next week I’ll be making my in-ring debut her on Thursday Fight Night.

Crowd cheers can be heard from inside the arena at the revelation of this news.

Brittany Lewis: As you can hear, the fans are definitely excited to hear this news. Good luck in your debut match next week, Chris.

Brittany Lewis: And now, MLW fans, it’s time for the match you’ve all been waiting for. Up next, Wade Bennett challenges Kurt Angle for the MLW Heavyweight Championship!

Bennett is first to make his entrance, and he looks unfazed at the immensity of the task at hand. The camera shifts to the locker room where Kurt Angle walks out of the door and makes his way to the entrance tunnel before walking down the aisle, belt around his waist as his music fills the arena.

The ring announcer does the standard championship match introduction before the bell rings and the match gets underway.

In a match with good wrestling, that the crowd enjoyed every minute of, Kurt Angle put away Wade Bennett with his patented Angle Slam after 14:44 of action. Both men struck each other hard and often, and although Barrett proved himself a main event player in his performance, Kurt Angle bested him on the night to make his first successful title defense.

As Angle celebrates in the ring, the camera moves to the commentary table where Jim Ross and Chael Sonnen deliver parting words to the television audience.

Jim Ross: Well, it doesn’t get much better than that! The crowd enjoyed the main event, and hats must go off to these two athletes.

Chael Sonnen: Both guys brought their A-game, but in the end, Kurt Angle showed why he’s still one of the best wrestlers on the planet today. It’ll be interesting to see where things go from here. Do you think Barrett is likely to just take this loss and move on? Or is this just the first of many encounters between these two?

Jim Ross: Well, you’ll have to tune in next week to find out won’t you?

Chael Sonnen: I know I’ll be there.

The roster is solidly built and you have a lot of young guys to build around. I was rooting for Cody over Kurt for first champ...but I get why Kurt won. That said, I'd like to see some of the other MLW guys make an appearance too--some guys who I think could actually help: Konnan, Cornette, Kevin Sullivan, Tama Tonga (if he's available)...basically anyone from MLW Radio besides Alice Radley and MSL.

I have def. been keeping an eye on this dynasty and been loving it! I'm a big fan of MLW Radio and I feel like your shows capture Court's vibe correctly. The roster is solidly built and you have a lot of young guys to build around. I was rooting for Cody over Kurt for first champ...but I get why Kurt won. That said, I'd like to see some of the other MLW guys make an appearance too--some guys who I think could actually help: Konnan, Cornette, Kevin Sullivan, Tama Tonga (if he's available)...basically anyone from MLW Radio besides Alice Radley and MSL.

I actually had plans to sign Konnan as the manager for LAX, but he got picked up to a written deal by New Japan. Tama Tonga may or may not be making some appearances in the future based on one of of his friends on our roster. Cornette I've been considering, I just need to come up with a way to introduce him. I considered Kevin Sullivan, but I can't say that I really have plans to bring him on.

The show opens with the camera capturing the audience inside the Spiro Sports Center before making way to the commentary table.

Jim Ross:Welcome to Major League Wrestling Fight Night on Tuff TV! This is Jim Ross, and I’m seated next my announce partner, Chael Sonnen. We have an action-packed night for you here in MLW, isn’t that right, Chael?

Chael Sonnen: Damn right it is, JR. Cody Rhodes will be in action tonight, as well as TJ Perkins and Doug Williams, and our main event tonight will feature Low Ki and Mr. Anderson. Sounds like an awesome night of wrestling to me. And let’s not forget the Fight Night debut that everyone has been anxiously awaiting for the last week.

Jim Ross: If you’re referring to Chris Hero —

Chael Sonnen: Of course I am, JR!

Jim Ross: Well, fans won’t have to wait much longer to see Chris Hero make his Fight Night debut. I’m getting word that he’s on his way to the ring right now! Let’s turn our attention to the ring.

”Chris is Awesome” begins to play on the arena sound system as the crowd awaits Chris Hero. He finally makes his way to ringside to thunderous applause, appreciation for the wrestling clinic that he and Low Ki put on at Bloodsport. As he makes his way between the ropes, he awaits the arrival of his opponent. After a few moments’ silence, music begins to play once more and none other than former ECW, WWE and TNA wrestler Stevie Richards makes his way down to the ring for a one-night appearance.

Chris Hero vs. Stevie Richards

In a short opening bout that was designed to make Chris Hero look dominant, Hero finished off Richards for the three count in 4:39 after a Hero’s Welcome.

After the match, Chris Hero looks to be making his way out of the ring, but he thinks twice about it. He stands over Stevie Richards who is still down and lifts him up onto his feet, and in no time, starts hitting him with a flurry of elbows. By the end, Richards’ nose is bloodied, and it may well be bloodied. Having made his point, Hero shoves Richards back onto the mat and proceeds to the back.

Backstage, Gail Kim is seen arranging her locker when Melissa Anderson appears. The two glare intensely at one another before Melissa breaks the silence.

Right when Melissa finishes her sentence, Ashley Lane, formerly known as Madison Rayne in TNA, charges into the locker room and attacks Gail Kim from behind. Anderson and Rayne proceed to lay some stomps into Gail Kim, before deciding that they’ve had enough and walking off.

After the commercial break, we’re taken back to ringside where Tyson Dux makes his entrance, followed by Cody Rhodes.

Wade Bennett: Wait just a minute, Cody. You keep talking about how you want another shot at the Championship, but for as long as I’m here in MLW you’ll have to wait your turn. Until I win the championship, nobody else gets to challenge for the belt or else there’ll be some consequences, and I bloody well mean that! Now, once I win the belt, I might just let you challenge for it, but it’ll be after I’ve beaten everyone else in the locker room. So if patience isn’t your best quality, I’d suggest you start working on that, because you’ll be waiting a long, long time.

Cody Rhodes: Bennett, you talk a lot game, but you’ve yet to back it up. You threatened to beat Kurt Angle within an inch of his life for that Championship, but he beat you handily. We all saw that match, and we all think you fought like a pussy.

Wade Bennett: Cody, you can spout your schoolyard insults at me, but it doesn’t change the fact that as long as I’m around, you won’t get near the Championship again. I’ll see to that, mate.

Cody Rhodes: You’ll see to it, huh? Well then, I saw we settle this little debate in the ring!

The fans cheer at the prospect of this match.

Wade Bennett: You’ll regret the day you challenged me to a match, I swear it!

Both wrestlers, put their mics down and the altercation ends with a one-on-one match set up in the coming weeks.

After the commercial break, Homicide and Hernandez walk into the locker room where Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa are sitting and talking. The two stand up almost immediately at the sight of the Latin American Xchange.

Johnny Gargano: What do you guys want?

Homicide: Easy, ese. We don’t want know drama. What you pulled off last week — takin’ a page out our book — that was real slick. We gotta hand it to you.

Tommaso Ciampa: Glad to see big guy over here isn’t still crying over getting pinned last week.

Ciampa says pointing at Hernandez.

Hernandez: Whatchu tryna say, boy?

Johnny Gargano: I believe he just called you a bitch —

Right then, the fists start to fly, and both teams get into a minor scuffle, but the flame is quickly put out when other wrestler’s standing nearby separate them.

Homicide: This ain’t over, puto!

Homicide says as LAX walk out of the locker room.

After the confrontation in the locker room, the action moves back to the ring where TJ Perkins is set to take on Doug Williams.

The crowd was more than ready for a good bout, but the match quality fell below expectations given the two wrestlers involved. The two were evenly matched, and while TJP may have use as an advantage over Williams, Williams is an experienced veteran who’s not above using every dirty trick in the book. Williams secured the pin over TJP after using the ropes for leverage, unbeknownst to the ref.

After the match, Brittany Lewis is standing by, microphone in hand, with Chris Hero, who made his MLW Fight Night debut earlier tonight.

Chris Hero: Was is necessary? Listen Brittany, you don’t get to the top of the ladder by being a nice guy. Look, it was nothing personal against Stevie Richards. It could have been anyone. He just happened to be the individual unfortunate enough to be in the ring with me earlier tonight.

Hero is breathing heavily, his brow furrowed.

Tonight I set out to make a statement, and I accomplished just that! Do you think Stevie Richards will ever think about stepping in the ring with me again? And what about the guys in the back? You think they want to step in the ring with Chris Hero?!

We’re all here for one thing, and that’s to be the best. Here, there are no good guys and bad guys. Everyone is out for themselves, to achieve that one goal — and that’s to be the best. Simple as that.

I’ll stop at nothing to be the best. I don’t care how many toes I have to step on, how many bridges I have to burn or how many people I have to knock out. Tonight is only the beginning.

After his impassioned promo, Chris Hero walks away from the interview leaving Brittany speechless

From there, we’re taken to the commentary table where Jim Ross and Chael Sonnen recap the night’s events, and reveal Court Bauer’s latest announcement to the fans.

Jim Ross: It’s been another great night here at MLW. We’ve seen Chris Hero make a statement in his Fight Night debut. Gail Kim was victorious and we saw Doug Williams pick up a victory as well.

Chael Sonnen: You’re forgetting about Cody Rhodes, JR.

Jim Ross: I was just about to get to that. Do you wanna tell the audience at home the news, or should I?

Chael Sonnen: You always get to break the news, JR, so I’ll have at it this time.

Jim Ross: The floor is all yours then, partner.

Chael Sonnen: To the viewing audience at home, we’ve just gotten word from MLW owner Court Bauer himself that, in three weeks’ time, Cody Rhodes will square off against Wade Bennett to determine a number one contender for the MLW Heavyweight Championship. The winner will face Kurt Angle at our next pay-per-view, Moment of Truth!

Jim Ross: And that’s news that I’m sure the fans will be excited to hear. And now, we turn our attention back to the ring, for tonight’s main event!

The camera focuses back on the ring where Low Ki makes his entrance for another main event match, followed by Mr. Anderson, who hasn’t been seen in MLW since losing to Roderick Strong at Bloodsport weeks ago.

Low Ki vs. Mr. Anderson

In a decent match that lasted that lasted 12:52, Anderson picked up the win after finishing Low Ki off with the Mic Check in the middle of the ring.

As always, the show opens with the camera capturing the fans in the fans in the audience, ready for another night of action in the Spiro Sports Center. The camera makes its way to the commentary table where Jim Ross addresses the audience at home.

Jim Ross: Welcome to Fight Night here at the Spiro Sports Center in Staten Island, New York. I’m Good Ol’ Jr, and seated next to me tonight is Chael Sonnen. Last week, we found out that, two weeks from tonight, Cody Rhodes will take on Wade Bennett to determine who will be the number one contender for Kurt Angle’s Heavyweight Championship at Moment of Truth.

Chael Sonnen: I honestly can’t wait for those two to square off, JR. That’s what MLW’s all about — big names in big matchup! Expect those two to raise the bar to another level with they meet in two weeks.

Jim Ross: And now, I’m getting word that Adam Cole and Scarlett Bordeaux are on their way to the ring. Let’s turn our attention there to see what they have to say.

The camera shifts to the entrance where an annoyed-looking Adam Cole walks out, dressed in his wrestling gear, with Scarlett Bordeaux at his side. Once in the ring, Cole retrieves a microphone from the ring girl and begins to speak.

Adam Cole: Two weeks ago, I came out to this very ring and challenged anyone in the locker room to a one-on-one match. Some guy named Joel Redman took me up on my challenge and I beat him 1,2,3 in the middle of this ring in no time flat.

Cole pauses for a moment.

So I have to ask: is that the best this promotion has to offer? I’m starting to think I was brought here under false pretenses. I was told I’d be a headliner, the franchise player. But here I am, going against guys like Joel Redman, and then not on the show the next. Need I remind you that I was the first wrestler to sign my name on the dotted line for this company. And this is the thanks I get?

Scarlett looks in agreement of Adam’s new found serious approach.

So I’m gonna do this again. Anyone in the back, anyone — come out here and face me one-on-one, man-to-man, so that I can make yet another statement and prove why I’m better than all you other scrubs in the back!

As music begins to play and a figure begins to walk down the entrance ramp, Cole is disappointed once more to see one half of the Premier Athletes, Tony Nese, makes his way to the ring to answer Cole’s open challenge.

Adam Cole vs. Tony Nese

In a short opening bout, Adam Cole defeated Tony Nese in 6:44 with the Florida Key. The bout could have been shorter, but Cole used this as an opportunity to toy with his opponent, taunting him, and even breaking up a two count just to add insult to injury. Despite Nese’s talent, there was never any doubt about the conclusion of the match.

After the bell rings to signal Cole’s victory, he walks off in frustration, angry that he’s not been presented with a higher caliber opponent. As Cole disappears to the back, the camera shifts to Brittany Lewis, who is about to interview Kurt Angle.

Brittany Lewis: I’m here with MLW Heavyweight Champion, Kurt Angle. Kurt, in two weeks’ time we’ll know whether you’ll be facing Cody Rhodes or Wade Bennett at Moment of Truth in your next title defense. What do you have to say about the two contenders?

Kurt Angle: First of all, I think it’s a joke that either Rhodes or Bennett is in contention to be the number one contender. I’ve already beaten both of them in title matches. What are they fighting for? The chance to lose to me again?

Brittany Lewis: Well, it’s often stated that it’s always harder to beat someone the second time around. Aren’t you at all worried that Rhodes or Bennett could come out on the winning side in their next encounter with you?

Kurt Angle: Did you not hear what I just said? Neither Cody Rhodes, nor Wade Bennett can beat me! There is not a chance in hell! Do you understand that?!

Brittany Lewis: I’m sorry if I’ve offended you, I just —

Angle snatches the microphone and looks into the screen.

Kurt Angle: Bennett, Rhodes, I know you both are watching this interview right now so I want to make one thing clear. Neither of you can beat me. Do you understand me? Neither. Of you. Can beat me one-on-one!

Angle pushes the microphone back into Brittany’s chest and then walks off, ending the interview just in time for the commercial break.

After the break, the focus is on the Women’s locker room, where Gail Kim grabs her Championship belt from her locker. Right as she turns around and heads for the door, Candice LeRae appears in front of her.

Gail looks taken aback by this.

You do have a target on your back. And, just like every other woman in this division, I do want that belt. But tonight, you don’t have to worry, because I have your back. And I just want to make sure you know that, and that you trust me out there tonight.

Gail Kim: I’m just glad we’re on the same page … and when the time comes, I look forward to facing you one-on-one to prove who the better woman is.

The two smile and shake hands having come to an understanding with one another, and proceed to head out to the ring for their tag team match.

In a decent match, Melissa Anderson shocks the MLW crowd by pinning Women’s Champion Gail Kim clean after connecting with a Kudo Driver after 10:22.

After the match, Anderson heads to the ring girl, grabs the Woman’s Championship as both Gail Kim and Candice LeRae struggle to come to, and makes off with it claiming herself to be the true Women’s Champion. When Gail Kim finally regains her composure, she realizes what happened and storms off in anger, desperate to get her belt back.

After the commercial break, we get right back to in-ring action as Hustle & Flow make their way to the ring to take on LAX.

And Cody Rhodes … My match with Cody Rhodes is nothing more than a warm-up match. It’s already a forgone conclusion that I will destroy Cody Rhodes in that ring, to take my rightful place as number one contender for the belt. And, Kurt Angle, when I step back in the ring with you, you’ll find out how I became a bare knuckle fighting champion.

From there, the screen moves to the interview area where Roderick Strong is standing by with Brittany Lewis.

Brittany Lewis: Roderick Strong, up next you take on Nick Aldis in the main event. How’re you feeling going into this match against Aldis, a competitor who, like you, knows what it’s like to be at the top of the mountain?

Roderick Strong: A match like this, this is why I told Court Bauer yes when he offered me a spot in MLW. Nick Aldis and I have both been the guy in the past, and tonight, one of us has a chance to prove he’s better than the other, and that’s how you make a statement, despite what others around here may think.

Roderick Strong: Well Chris, I always said you were smarter than you look, so there’s that.

Chris Hero: That’s really funny coming from you Roddy.

Roderick Strong: No, you want to know what’s funny. That you felt the need to mercilessly attack a guy like Stevie Richards, someone who’s given his life to this industry, just to make a statement last week. There’s no honor in that, and I can’t respect you, man.

Chris Hero: Honor? Respect? You sound like a child who never grew up. Fact of the matter is, you don’t get anywhere in life when you hold onto things like “honor” and “respect.” If you ever want to be a champion in this company, you’ll learn that.

Roderick Strong: You don’t ever tell me what it takes to be a champion! I know what it takes to be a champion!

Chris Hero: Do you?

Chris Hero walks off before Strong can respond, and after watching him walk off, Strong heads in the other direction to get ready for the main event.

Brittany Lewis: Roderick Strong will be up against Nick Aldis when we return from break.

After the commercial break, Nick Aldis makes his way to the ring for his first appearance since losing in the three-way number one contender’s match against MVP and Wade Bennett at Bloodsport. He is soon followed by Roderick Strong, who looks unfazed given the encounter he just had backstage with Chris Hero.

Nick Aldis vs. Roderick Strong

Expectations for this match were high, and both competitors delivered. Aldis and Strong showed why they are positioned at the top of the card in MLW, but in the end, only one could come out on top. After a putting together a great in-ring performance, Strong caught Aldis with a Sick Kick to the face to secure victory in 15:25.

The show ends with Roderick Strong celebrating his victory and taking the time to acknowledge some of the fans on the way to the back as the screen fades to black on another episode of Major League Wrestling Fight Night.</div></td></tr></tbody></table>

The show opens with the camera capturing the fans inside the Spiro Sports Arena before settling on Jim Ross and Chael Sonnen at the commentary table.

Jim Ross: Welcome to Major League Wrestling Fight Night here on Tuff TV. I’m Jim Ross and I’ll be calling the action for you tonight next to my partner Chael Sonnen.

Chael Sonnen: It’s always a pleasure to call the action with you JR. How about last week’s show? That confrontation between Roderick Strong and Chris Hero — I don’t know about you, but I hope there’s more to come from those two.

Jim Ross: You and me both, partner. I don’t think we’ve seen the last of the conflict between those two by a long shot. And now, we turn our attention to the ring for our opening contest of the night.

The camera focuses on the ring as Drew Gulak and his tag team partner TJ Perkins make their way to the ring for the first match of the show. They’re soon followed by the reigning MLW Tag Team Champions, Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa.

Catch Club (Drew Gulak and TJ Perkins) vs. Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa

In a decent non-title affair that lasted 9:57, Gargano and Ciampa showed the fans and all the other tag teams in the back why they’re on the champions. Ciampa secured the win after nailing Perkins with Project Ciampa.

After the match, the camera follows Gulak and TJP backstage where they run into Doug Williams, who owns a pinfall victory over TJP by dubious means.

Drew Gulak: OK, you had to cheat to beat TJ, I’d like to see you try that with me. See me out there next week!

With that, Gulak and TJP walk off as Williams looks on with a sly grin on his face, clearly satisfied that he was able to ruffle some feathers tonight. From there, the show heads to a commercial break.

After the commercial, we’re taken backstage to the locker room where Scarlett Bordeaux is seen helping Adam Cole get ready for a match.

Cole nods in agreement and turns his focus back to getting his gear on.

Afterwards, the focus goes back to the ring where Melissa Anderson, who hasn’t been seen since taking off with Gail Kim’s Women’s Championship belt weeks ago, makes her way to the ring with the belt around her waist. She’s followed by Candice LeRae, who after taking the time to acknowledge the fans on her way down the aisle, approaches Melissa in the ring with a look of disgust.

Melissa Anderson vs. Candice LeRae

Anderson and LeRae put together a decent match, but the action came to a screeching halt in 9:20. With Candice down on the mat, and Melissa looking to secure victory, Gail Kim entered the fray and absolutely floored Melissa to the mat resulting in a disqualification victory for Melissa.

With Melissa down on the mat, Gail takes her eye off of her for a brief moment to check on Candice, which proves to be costly. Melissa scurries out of the ring, retrieves the belt, and makes off with it, exiting through the crowd and leaving Gail to pursue her once more.

After the match, a vignette is hyping the number one contender match for the MLW Heavyweight Championship between Cody Rhodes and Wade Bennett next week.

As Dux lies on the mat in defeat, Hero starts to usher him out of the ring by kicking him on his side until he’s finally rolled out of the bottom rope. He then snatches a mic from the ring girl and begins to address the crowd.

Chris Hero: I won’t apologize for being the toughest son of a bitch in this company. And if anyone in the back has a problem with that — anyone — I want you to come out here right now and say it to my face like a man.

There’s a moment of silence as Chris Hero waits for someone to come down the aisle.

OK, you know what … I shouldn’t have been so passive aggressive when I said that. Roderick Strong, I want you to come to this ring right now. Don’t make me wait.

Another moment passes by when, finally Roderick Strong’s music fills the Spiro Sports Center and he makes his way to the ring, looking straight ahead at Chris Hero.

Roderick Strong: So you think you can call the shots around here? You think you can just demand for me to come out and meet you in the ring?

Chris Hero: Well, you’re here, aren’t you?

Strong smirks in amusement.

Roderick Strong: Listen, we don’t have anything to discuss in this ring. I told you last week that I don’t respect you or the way you go about “making statements.” Simple as that.

Chris Hero: We can’t all be like you, Roddy. You see, some of us have this thing I like to call ambition. And with your attitude, it’s clear that you lack it. And that’s why you’ll never be a champion in this company.

Roderick Strong: See that’s the thing … you don’t get to go around dictating who will and won’t be a champion.

Chris Hero: Oh no Roddy, see that’s where you’re wrong. I get to dictate whatever the hell I want around here because I only answer to myself. See you, you’re too concerned with the rules and fighting fair, and you don’t need me to tell you how cutthroat it is between the boys in the back because you’ve seen it. I’m just trying to help you here.

Roderick Strong: Listen, if I wanted to know how to act like a grade-A pussy, then I’d ask for your help. But as far as I’m concerned, I’m done talking with you. Let me know when you’re ready to settle this difference of ideologies.

Strong drops the mic and makes his way out of the ring.

Chris Hero: Don’t … regret this decision, Roddy.

Strong looks back at Hero before shaking his head in disgust and continuing to make his way to the back as Fight Night transitions to a commercial break.

After the break, we’re taken back to the ring where Adam Cole and Scarlett Bordeaux make their entrance. As they take their place in the ring, they wait for the next person to answer Adam Cole’s open challenge.

Adam Cole vs. Low Ki

Low Ki is quickly developing a reputation for putting on decent main event matches on Fight Night when called upon, and this encounter was no different. Adam Cole was the better wrestler on the night, and he was able to seal yet another victory after connecting with the Panama Sunrise on Low Ki after 13:53.

Cole celebrates arrogantly in the ring with Scarlett as the camera moves back to the commentary table one last time.

Jim Ross: Well, that concludes another night of MLW action here on Tuff TV!
