Wrestling Nexus - Another place for new mods and content

Recommended Posts

We're announcing today that we're releasing 1998: The Art of War as an open beta for a select number of users at the Mod Squad's new home, WrestlingNexus.com and HomeofProWrestling.com. Dynasty Diaries are also available on WrestlingNexus.com. Other mods, guides and content can also be found on the new forum.

For anybody that joins the forum before 12PM GMT Wednesday you will be able to get access to our forums to download TAOW later today. The beta period will only last for a limited time, a week. After roughly a week the forums will be open to everyone to join.

Why a Beta?

The WrestlingNexus forums are new, and the Mod Squad want to provide users a choice between downloading the mod now, or waiting for the first big update. By having a beta period we can all make sure that the Wrestling Nexus forums are running smoothly for its full release and in the meantime, the Mod Squad will iron out any issues with their TAOW mod before the download link is made available to everyone.

What about Updates on GDS from the Mod Squad?

We will still be releasing links to updates on GDS Forums as and when mods are released.

What is Home of Pro Wrestling, and why is this separate to the forum?

It's make sure that a service is maintained for hosted downloads and an active forum to spread the hits across servers. Home of Pro Wrestling is for hosting downloads and content, Wrestling Nexus for discussion forum, and diaries.

Why these new forums, Wrestling Nexus?

Over the past few months the response to mods on GDS for TEW2016 have been pretty amazing especially how many people have given feedback and have got on board with the various modding teams to help us give you the best mods possible, and we've seen that happen all over the GDS modding community. Because of how the community has grown so much since TEW2016 came out, WrestlingNexus has been set up as a place that promotes TEW on the internet. The forums were setup by MrCreative for the whole community in mind. The forum has been created with easy sign up and login, and a place to download mods, talk about Wrestling and share dynasty diaries in a easy to read and follow format. Until now, a group of GDS members have been testing the forums and the new features. Now Wrestling Nexus has reached the Beta phase, we're looking for some more members to join before the full release in a weeks time.

What are these new forums then?

It's a hub for TEW diary, discussion and mod content and is a place to talk about Wrestling.

By creating independent own servers for downloads and the forums, this allows for the provision of direct download links for mods that are not hosted on file sharing websites where users are at risk of malware. Also, if one part of the system went down, the other would still be available.

WN's Dynasty Diaries feature is a new diary format that has an automatic index for dynasty writers, and easier to follow diary with threaded comments for diary posts within a dynasty. Users can read diaries more easily without having to skip over comments to a diary update, and they can subscribe to a diary by email or private message, as well as add diaries to their RSS feed readers.

Also on the boards is a TEW Help forum for guides and useful information which will be filled up over time. Rather than having things in single threads, content will be easier to find.

Users can sign up to our forums using social media accounts such as Facebook, Twitter, Google and Steam, making it easier than ever to get involved with the conversation. Topics can easily be shared on social media channels as well with one click sharing.

There will also be running competitions direct on WrestlingNexus.com for users taking part in writing and reading diaries and Wrestling Prediction League competitions. These competitions also come with prizes for winners.

WN welcomes all users to get involved, writers, mods and fans, to be part of this interactive hub with social media features to help us promote TEW more widely on the internet.

Above all, that's exactly we are doing this. We want to promote TEW more widely on the internet and bring together content that's just for TEW that can be found from all over the web, GDS, Reddit, YouTube, etc. We want to be clear that the writers and modders already signed up to the forum before the beta release will still be promoting and posting content on GDS, but you'll be able to get that content on WrestlingNexus too.

Where can I sign up?

Sign up to WrestlingNexus.com to get access to the TAOW Beta later today, as well as diary content that's already being posted. Registrations will close on Wednesday around 12PM GMT while the forum is in Beta.

I tried signing up with facebook and I think I broke everything.

For a brief period last night around this time the board was disabled in order to install a new feature. It was only for 10 minutes. I'd suggest trying again.

Thanks everyone that has signed up, Summerslam Predictions going up very shortly

Thanks for the creation. Looks well designed and set up nicely. Took about 30 seconds to sign up, saved as a bookmark, and auto sign in checked. Not as difficult as it is being made out to be <img alt=";)" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/wink.png.686f06e511ee1fbf6bdc7d82f6831e53.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

<p>You don't need to register. Nearly a 5th of our users are logging in with their social media accounts so you can just do that as well. </p><p> </p><p>

But I understand if having to register just to view Facebook, Twitter, Google and Steam is a turn off for you which might mean you can't use that option either? If so, sorry about that. </p><p> </p><p>

Thanks for the feedback.</p>

Thanks to everyone that has joined so far and is taking part in the Summerslam PPV Predictions, we hope more of you join in before the deadline

<p>I have no issue with you guys setting up a new forum but you haven't really answered the question of why you have to sign-up to download mods. Saying it only takes a minute to register isn't an answer to that. I'm guessing it's something to do with guest-bots but I feel like that was probably why you got a few negative responses in the now deleted exchange from the Mod Squad thread. It comes across as you want to use the mods to coax people into registering in the hopes that once they do, they'll stay and contribute on the forums (which is a perfectly legitimate strategy for building a new board, because you have a valuable resource to leverage with the mods you guys spend your time making).</p><p> </p><p>

My advice, if your goal is to build a thriving community over there, would be to make more of a concerted effort to make the boards active because now is when you'll get the majority of your sign-ups and if the boards aren't active now, people won't join in. Last night during NXT and now during Summerslam are perfect community events to kick-start the board but no one is around.</p>

Jim we made it clear in the very first post why.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> If anyone thinks gds is the only forum that mods and diaries are hosted I have news for you. EWB has had mods come out on those boards for TEW games that have never even been announced here on gds. That won't happen on nexus.</p><p> </p><p> People signing up makes life easier for me as a mod maker SlimJim. I've spent literally over hundreds if not thousands of hours making data for the community. I've never once asked for anything in return not even a thanks. I've now asked those who've supported me to spend a minute registering to help me out and make my modding life easier. It's very simple I don't know why all the speculation and nonsense. The forums let us keep track of the mods popularity etc much better while allowing us to post in any format we prefer. Embedding of videos within a mod release thread for example is not available here on gds. Add to that the restrictions GDS has because of trademark laws etc and another advantage of the Nexus forum appears.</p><p> </p><p> Registering to download content is extremely common within the modding community, was standard for games like Morrowind and Civ. Those communities had no issue spending a minute to sign up in support.</p><p> </p><p> This is not splitting the community, we would only invite select members if that were the case like other boards. There are currently a few boards out there that have TEW sections and as I mentioned have released exclusive mods in the past. That won't be us, we don't want hidden sections and we won't be keeping any mods secret just for our site like EWB has in the past.</p>

That's a much fuller explanation, which I think is what was needed (not for me, I already signed up) but didn't happen because it was asked for quite aggressively previously. Hopefully that'll make things clearer for other people reading along without getting involved.

<p>Definitely, sorry SlimJim maybe I should've posted that earlier. </p><p> </p><p>

Just to clarify one more thing I've heard hinted at, we are not nor will we ever charge any kind of money for any of our mods. The move was for GDS's benefit and to make life easier for us having everything centralised and easy to manage <img alt=":)" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/smile.png.142cfa0a1cd2925c0463c1d00f499df2.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p>

(And any mods that were on EWB were hosted at EWWarehouse for the entire TEW community.) TheWho87 has since improved his mod and brought it back to GDS. I'm not trying to start a fight mind you, I just do not know what these mods are that you are speaking of. Besides TheWho87 I am really the only one who consistently mods for TEW Games there. There's never been an effort for any kind of EWB-exclusive mods. If you choose to believe so, that's your choice. But you can ask TheWho87, OGPistolPete, and other EWB members that contribute to GDS and the TEW community and they will tell you the same thing.</p>

<p>I'm happy you included the changes I suggested but having my posts deleted when the mod is updated just doesn't strike me right. I think it would be a better idea to lock the previous thread and make a new one when the updated version is uploaded. That way you can prevent messy threads and start fresh with the updated version but also allow members to raise their post count and keep evidence of their contributions. And, if I'm wrong about anything, it's only right that you refer the person to my post and I take the heat or we discuss it or whatever.</p><p> </p><p>

It just doesn't feel right is all I'm saying and might deter me and others from posting on your forum in the future.</p>
