How Close To History Do YOU Go?

Recommended Posts

Obviously this is just towards people who play historical mods, but how close to history do you go? Are you someone who completely changes things or do you like to keep things 'realistical'? Also what do you do with worker deaths? I ask this because I remember a WWE Game I had in which I kept Eddie Guerrero & Chris Benoit around after their real life deaths, doing some dream matches I wanted to see, but then in the end it felt wrong in a weird way. Share your stories :)

It's been a while since I've played historical mods, but I used to stay close to reality for the first month or so. It's kind of difficult to book the build up to a PPV much differently in a month's time. But I would have something happen in the PPV that would start altering certain things.

Take Survivor Series 2002 - Brock Lesnar (w/ Paul Heyman) vs Big Show

Instead of Big Show winning the belt to lose it to Kurt Angle the next month, I built Big Show as a year long champ. The first few months people would interfere on his behalf, Heyman building a stable around him.

A simple stipulation from Heyman did wonders to change things up (no rematches given after title matches against Big Show). Then, at Survivor Series 2003, Big Show got kicked out of the stable, losing his title.

Those two little things really changed the landscape because there was a fresh challenger each month, and it was a good way of building Show's feud afterwards - he had to go through the stable that had protected him in order to get his shot at the belt.

i don't i may spin some real history but i play as if its C-Verse where its my game my rules, if i think Mankind fits my promotion and story he is in, the only thing i try to stick to is their real life attitudes, like i keep the belt on Hogan or something due to CC

For the first month i stick to the pre set feuds. Then Ill start altering moat things. Ill take influence from real life events but with a lot of difference.

Like in the 87 database as WWF. WM3 will be kept mostly the same except Taker will begin his streak ending Bruno Sammartinos career. From there new workers are signed and a good 1/3 will be let go one way or another.

sometimes I go with unexprcteced events like peopke just floating who get well over, such as Davey Boy Smith floating winning some and losing to the top dogs. He got over to Main event so he ended up being tranitioned into a heel turn and Title win against Hogan. 24 year old Heel Bulldog as the champion. Youngest in History.

Normally I don't bother sticking to history and the closest I come is carrying on any storylines I start with. However, I've recently been playing the Montreal Aftermath database and decided that I would book every PPV exactly the same as it happened in real life (with the exception being I had Kane attack The Undertaker instead of Jeff Jarrett during the 'Taker vs Jarrett match at D-Generation X: In Your House), the final, when I get to it, being WrestleMania X-Seven (with the exception of the heel turn at the end). I'm currently in April 1999. Unfortunately, certain things stopped me being able to book things 100%.

Sable got pregnant and so had to go on maternity leave just a few months before she was meant to win the Women's Championship. I brought in a new woman, Amy Lee, to replace her for the time being, only to drop the title back to Sable when she returned a couple of weeks before WrestleMania XV.

Jeff Jarrett got mad and walked out, so I signed Ace Steel to replace him. Now, when I get to the point Jarrett walked out on the WWF, I'm going to, first of all, have Steel compete in a high-risk match and take a crazy bump (I realise I'm a heartless being attempting to injure his own worker) but if he doesn't get injured, I'm just going to have him work in one of the developmental territories until I begin The Invasion.

I should also point out, I am in fact booking the Heat before each PPV just as it went as well (and I'm also using Wikipedia as my main source of the results). Well, on the Heat before Backlash 1999, there was a match where Droz and Prince Albert beat Too Much. Problem there being that Albert got injured in developmental, and now he can't compete for another two months. I have yet to decide what I'm doing there.

I have also checked who died when, and am going into the data editor when I get to the months that they died (not worrying about dates) and setting them to deceased. Also, I will have Droz retired when we get to that, and when I get to the point that Vicne Russo jumped ship to WCW, I will add a new player as Vince Russo, join WCW as the booker, then immediately leave the game. If people don't get injured when they did in real life, I'm just sending them on vacation. Also, I'm keeping title reigns in line.

I stick with the real life for the first month and that's about it, but even then im already changing things with the plans I set into motion such as new signings etc.

Im using the MA mod and before ive even started I must have spent the last 3hrs or so shortlisting people, making offers, planning a dev territory, new storylines to take over from the ones currently there, gimmick changes im going to make, disposition changes im going to make, new teams/stables I wanna form. Thankfully I plan this out on a spreadsheet and im all but ready to move to day 2 haha

But ultimately I never want to keep it close to real life as, well its my world, I want to steer WWF/WCW/ECW etc in the direction that I feel would have been better or more interesting.....also I like to make stars or give someone a chance I feel they never got, especially with some of the older mods like the Golden Age, that's great fun more or less trying to kill Hulkamania while have the likes of Savage, Jake the Snake, Million Dollar man etc being you're top guys and getting the titles they deserved
