Crossface at a crossroads!

Recommended Posts

Hey GDS community,

I was hoping you'd be interested in helping me make some decisions by lending me some feedback. Basically, over the last month, I have working on WWF 1991: "They'll be jammed packed to the rafters for this one!" Long story short, while I am not 100% convinced that I want to abandon the project, I'm also not 100% convinced I want to continue with it for various reasons...

That being said, I created a super brief GoogleForm to solicit some feedback from you, the GDS Dynasty community, on some ideas that I've had. If you'd be so kind to answer this 3 question form, it would be super helpful to me! It's safe, anonymous, and requires no log-in of any kind.

Big thanks to everyone who chooses to participate!

I once again wanted to reiterate my gratitude to everyone that's taken a few minutes to complete this survey. The results have been varied and informative and have me pondering a few different options...

I haven't quite made a decision about how I want to proceed yet so I will leave the Google form active through tomorrow some time if anyone else would care to share their thoughts.

<p>While I never predicted on your 91 diary, I did read it and i very much enjoyed it. However, your heart has to be in a diary rather than just forcing it so you should write what you wanna write.</p><p> </p><p>

I think you could do a good job on whatever you do <img alt=":)" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/smile.png.142cfa0a1cd2925c0463c1d00f499df2.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p>

With my 97 dynasty, I was 99% of the way to quitting it and shutting it down, before I decided "eh, give it another shot" and I'm having a lot of fun with it now and getting a lot of support.</p>

Firstly, a very sincere thank you once again for all the feedback. It's been really encouraging and (mostly) positive (both here on the forums as well in the Google Form). It's awesome to hear that my little '91 project was being read by more folks than I realized.

While I have still not made my decision about my next move (which very well may be just getting to work on the next episode of Superstars), I am going to close the form now and digest the feedback for a bit.

Just as a matter of course, here's why I am thinking of abandoning '91:

1.) As one of the posters on the form pointed out, the squash matches and Event Center segments get repetitive to book/play in game as well as to write. I wouldn't want to abandon them this early in the game because I do feel that their essential to the era--an important aspect to any historical diary IMO...so this leaves me in somewhat of dilemma.

2.) I have made some booking decisions in game (things that haven't occurred in the write-up yet) that I'm not sure that I love. This has me torn a bit because I am not overly excited to present these decisions but they've already played out in the game and I feel committed to see them through, for better or worse. I will admit however that sometimes once I actually write them out, I like them better than simply clicking through TEW.

3.) To be honest, as much as I love WWF in 1991 and was a born and raised Hulkamaniac, Hulk Hogan is not that fun to book. He's my Figurehead and I am more or less bound to him for the forseeable future. But by 1991 he's already run through most of his best competition I think. I do have some fledgling ideas for storylines for him after Wrestlemania that could make an interesting character for me again, but knowing mentally that it'll take while to get there is somewhat daunting.

4.) To piggyback on that idea, it feels like storylines in 1991 move a snail's pace. While I could definitely speed them up, I'm not sure that it'd feel authentic to me. As I said earlier, that era-authenticity is super important to me and my gameplay and writing style. So I need to be more okay with the slow build and fill some time with squashes.

Well, I said a lot there--and I realize that it sounds like I'm talking myself out of 1991, but I didn't mean it to. The reality is that the diary has actually been a lot of fun to book and write and justxyank has built an incredible mod in Rising Storms. I often regretted abandoning my 1987 NWA diary because I was intimidated by writing the Crocket Cup.

Maybe I just need to come up for air and get a side game going or take a break...or maybe start another project all together....

Either way, stay tuned! ;)

Seriously though, a big thanks once again to the 23 people(!) who took the time to respond to this. It is encouraging and appreciated!
