[C-Verse 97] HGC: Dealing with Politics

[A 35 year old J.K Stallings sits in a chair, reserved in nature. His suit was professional but luxurious as he comfortably sat in his office chair in his home. Surrounded by technology and all his accomplishments, Stallings' hair is combed to one side as it's sleekness glistens against the light. His face shows no emotion, as he begins to speak.]

I was a money bank. Sure my ideas were used more often than not but that's because I was signing the paychecks. I was so young at the time that I didn't really know anything that happened in the back. I was just the man with the money, I was just a fan.

http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/HGC/Rip%20Chord_ager_zpsiqceki9c.jpg

[sitting comfortably in his home, wrestling legend Rip Chord looks feeble as a 68 year old man. Years of drinking and drug abuse, have finally taken their toll. His grey hair and drooped makes him look far older than he is. Despite this, he still shows his immense passion for the business as his face lights up as he begins to speak]

Sam Strong was king. He okay'd everything but we had a booking committee. You usually didn't get that back in those days but Sam wanted control of the main storylines, so that's what he got. I controlled the midcard storylines with reasonably heavy input from Sam, and I also had the Cruiserweights. Larry Vessey had the tag teams, and that was his territory, Sam didn't even interfere with that and Charlie Homicide took care of the Hardcore division, which Sam didn't care about.

[He shuffles in his chair as he continues to remember back.]

I remember that you were either with Sam or against him and let me tell you, if you were against him, you were going to struggle to get on the show, that's one thing that was for sure. The three "sub-bookers" were bulletproof in a way that we could legitimately do anything we wanted without as much as a second thought from Sam, as long as it wasn't taking away from his spotlight, Sam was happy. I think Charlie and myself did a fine job in trying to groom the future for the industry with what we were given but Larry took it to a new level. People thought Larry was just a grumpy old man, but he knew what he needed to do to make sure the industry lived on.

http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/HGC/Robert%20Oxford_zpsxvxmv8gm.jpg

Larry was old school.

[Although 57 years old, Robert Oxford had kept in tremendous shape and truthfully hadn't changed since his initial run in HGC. His hair speckled with grey, Oxford spoke with professionalism as he continued his story.]

And if you were old school he liked that, which is why "The Untouchables" were the tag team kings back then. Vessey loved us, we could wrestle, we were technical and we got wrestling. Yet, that's not the only "old school" take he had on wrestling. Larry also liked big tough dudes as well. Which is why tag teams like Savage Fury and The Nation of Filth were also heavily involved. Vessey knew what he wanted and truthfully, he didn't take well to guys who didn't fit his mantra.

http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/HGC/Teddy%20Flame_zpszohmm3kl.jpg

[still sporting his died red hair 19 years later, Teddy Flame sat in front of the camera, his face surrounded by blinding red hair. His face wrinkled, Teddy smirked as he began to talk.]

Larry wasn't a fan of our style but respected us because of our accomplishments. I think he wanted us away from the tag division just so he could build his own division. Not that we thought that was a problem, we were more than ready to finish our tag team. Joey was very happy that we were over, he had a lot still left in the tank. I, on the other hand, was on my final legs and I knew that. I respect Larry for what he did. He was direct no bullsh!t. I wish I could say the same for Sam.

http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/HGC/JackBruce_alt1jt.jpg?t=1472860608

[A still vibrant looking Jack Bruce sat in a fluffy zebra patterned chair. A lovable smirk on his face, Jack's is surrounded with posters of his greatest achievements and moments in his career. An SWF title hung in a frame on the wall, with Jack Bruce inscribed on the name plate. Jack smiles as he begins to speak]

It was a struggle. Everyday was a struggle. Sam did what he had to do to stop the young guys from rising up to take his spotlight. Though he didn't always take much interest he made sure when guys started to get hot with momentum, that they took a step back and this wasn't a minor inconvenience either, he'd have them lose a big match up.

[Jack shakes his head, a grimace appearing on his face. He brushes his hair off his face and continues]

It's disgusting when you think about it. Sam was 50 at that time. He didn't have many more years left or at least he shouldn't have had. There's a point in your career when you say "Okay, I can't give much more to this business, time to put the new generation of stars over". I'm not quite there yet but that time will come, that's the only thing us wrestlers can't fight and that's time and physical decline. Sam was at that level but that's what you had to deal with. You were
dealing with politics
and Sam Strong was the leader of the party.

</div></div><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><em>[sitting feebly in his chair Charlie Homicide stares back at the camera. Scars still on his forehead from his wrestling days, Homicide seems physically broken down due to the amount of punishment he took in his career.]</em></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

All the bookers wanted to bring in a few guys, except Sam. I wanted to bolster the hardcore division which was completely empty. Rip wanted a few more cruiserweights and up and coming prospects to mould. While Larry wanted a few more teams to round out the tag division. I suppose when you get a bit of power you want to put your own spin on things, and we all wanted to do that. </div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</div></div><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><em>[Charlie sighs deeply and continues]</em></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

The only thing I wanted was to bring my style of wrestling to the mainstream and this was my chance.</div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</div></div><div style="text-align:center;"><span>http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/HGC/Rip%20Chord_ager_zpsiqceki9c.jpg</span></div><p></p><p></p><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</div></div><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><em>[Known for his amazing abilities at teaching youngsters the ropes, Rip has had many workers come through his tutelage and the guys in HGC were no different. His gaze became strong and confident as he began to talk about his proteges]</em></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

I wanted more guys. More youngsters. I took Monty Walker under my wing in early 97 and he was a real good talent. His only problem was that he was a little injury prone, working in DAVE wasn't helping, but I wanted to guide him. Help him to where he could, help him reach his very high ceiling, and of course to get better, you need guys to wrestle to make you better. HGC hadn't the biggest roster and not that we really needed it, but seems we had different divisions, Sam made it clear that you only battled the people in your division unless he said otherwise. I liked that idea, it would help us give us a rankings system and we used that, in all our divisions. It was not just our own rankings but the fans could vote on it too. That's one thing about Stallings, seems he was a fan, he wanted other fans' opinion</div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</div></div><div style="text-align:center;"><span>http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/HGC/JKStalkingsJr_ager_zps93tjmob7.jpg</span></div><p></p><p></p><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

The fans are everything in this sport. Without them, wrestling is nothing. It's like any other sport.</div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</div></div><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><em>[stalling stared brightly back at the camera, a glint in his eye.] </em></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

That's what I was back then, a fan and I was going to make sure that our fans had a say in what we were doing. The fans helped with our ranking system and we loved that. With all the divisions we had, we could easily make top 10 standings on a weekly basis, that was Rip's and Charlie's job. Sam had no interest. At least at the start, as time went on, those rankings, became a lot more important to people.</div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</div></div><div style="text-align:center;"><span>http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/HGC/Ricky%20Dale%20Johnson_zpsq1ajafji.jpg</span></div><p></p><p></p><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</div></div><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><em>[The veteran presence of Ricky Dale Johnson sat comfortably in an armchair. Dressed casually, Johnson smiles as he remembers his early days in HGC.]</em></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

The rankings let us know how we were doing. Whether it was good, bad or in the middle and it really helped the young guys see how we faced up against the veterans. I personally loved the idea and as time went on, it became really, really competitive. There was definitely a strong competition between everybody, except Sam. He had to win, had to be the best. He initially didn't care, but time passed and the rankings became important and then he became really, really obsessed with it. </div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</div></div><div style="text-align:center;"><span>http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/HGC/Sam%20Strong_zpskfsonjye.jpg</span></div><p></p><p></p><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Those rankings meant nothing.</div></div>

<p><strong>SOLD</strong>.</p><p> </p><p>

I can't wait to read more. I really loved Jack Bruce talking about Sam Strong doing all he could to keep the young wrestlers down. It's funny, because Jack is doing the same thing now (and in my dynasty in the background). I swear I get a message every week that there is someone he thinks "doesn't cut it."</p><p> </p><p>

Keep it up, my friend!</p>

I've never played as HGC but I've enjoyed the start to this and what I've read from arwink's diary so here goes nothing!

Sam Strong v Romeo Heartthrob

I get the impression that Sam Strong does not do jobs.

The Blazing Flames v The Demons of Rage

Liberty v Charlie Homicide

The future James Justice is going to be held back here I would think.

The Vessey Brothers v The Nation of Filth

The Tag Team Specialists v Savage Fury

Dark EAGLE v Mr Lucha

Golden Fox v The Danger Kid

<p></p><div style="text-align:center;"><span>http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/HGC/HGC_zpsvhabvaix.jpg</span><p>

<strong>HGC Hollyweird TV</strong></p><p><strong>

Irvine Hall (Mid South)</strong></p><p><strong>

4443 people in attendance </strong></p><p><strong>

Tuesday, week 1, January, 1997</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<span>http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/HGC/Jason%20Azaria_zpssgdiwctu.jpg</span><span>http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/HGC/Kyle%20Rhodes_zpsf8nrjxhy.jpg</span></p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

Jason Azaria and Kyle Rhodes introduce the fans at home to the first Hollyweird show of the new year. Name dropping many of their biggest stars such as Sam Strong and Rip Chord, they run down the important matches in detail while skimming over the "less important" matches. They do however get over that all of tonight's matches are apart of the tournaments in each division before....</p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><span>http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/HGC/hgc%20banner_zpshtylkrda.png</span><p> </p><p>

<span>http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/HGC/Sam%20Strong_alt_zpsy1ta6vmg.jpg</span></p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

"The Immortal" Sam Strong makes his way out from behind the curtain. His Pro America theme ringing around the arena as the fans shout and scream in excitement. Sam gets into the ring as the crowd continue to try and blow the roof off the arena. Sam begins his promo with his signature catchphrase of "The strength of Strong is...." before the crowd reply with "..the strongest", before the crowd cheer again. Strong says he's happy to be here in HGC and his goal is clear. That he wants to be the first HGC World Heavyweight champion. Continuing on that he's the best in the business, Strong says that he doesn't care who is in the tournament and will make sure he gets the title around his waist. However....</p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><span>http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/HGC/Rip%20Chord_zps6jjurbny.jpg</span></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

Rip Chord takes an issue with what Strong is saying and says he will be the first champ of this company. He continues by saying he's better than Strong and all these fans and nobody will be able to stop him. </p><p> </p><p>

Strong replies that Rip hasn't even been announced to be in the tournament yet and that, you have to do more than be a big name to get the opportunity to enter. Chord is not impressed and says that he has achieved more in his career than Strong has, which receives astounding boos from the fans. Strong is about to reply when...</p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><span>http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/HGC/Charlie%20Homicide_zpshksl5l12.jpg</span></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

The crazed psychopath that is Charlie Homicide makes his way down to the ring. Homicide explains that Strong won't make it past the semi's as he has to face the winner of his match and we all know who it's going to be. He implies that he will leave Sam Strong nothing but a bloody mess and will force him to retire due to his injuries. </p><p> </p><p>

Strong challenges Homicide to do just that as he says giving up is not in his vocabulary. Saying that the way things are going he will have to beat both men in front of him to get the title, before stating he loves a challenge and beating both men will definitely be one.</p><p> </p><p>

Chord intrajects and says that he'd much prefer if himself and Homicide beat Strong down right now, losing his spot in the tournament. Homicide adds that he loves the idea before Chord asks "What you going to do Strong? It's two on one"</p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><span>http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/HGC/Whistler_zpspr55hmyv.jpg</span></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

However, Whistler makes his way to the ring to initially a luck warm reaction but gets huge cheers when he states that he has his fellow patriot, Sam Strong's back in a fight and that now, it's two on two. </p><p> </p><p>

Rip Chord backs off and exits the ring. Homicide intially goes for Strong but thinks better of it and also leaves.</p><p> </p><p>

HGC Cruiserweight Tournament Round 1</p><p>

The Danger Kid v Golden Fox</p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

Danger Kid and Golden Fox work in fast forward as their match is only going six minutes. Kid initially starts the match well, but Fox's experience gets him back in it with a swift counter. Kid and Fox exchange blows here and there but Fox gets the more impactful moves in. Fox is then dominates and hits a flurry of moves like a dropkick, followed by a snap suplex before climbing to the top rope and hitting a Flying Fox (Frog Splash) for the win</p><p> </p><p>

As the commentators remark that Cowboy Ricky Dale has been confirmed as a part of the HGC World Heavyweight tournament, they send it to the backstage interviewer to get a reaction from the man himself.</p><p> </p><p>

Cowboy is delighted to be in the tournament and thanks the fans as if it weren't for them, he wouldn't be here. Although he knows it'll be tough, he mentions that he ain't no stranger to the tough life and remarks that livin' on a ranch ain't no picnic. </p><p> </p><p>

He says that he doesn't know who his opponent is, but is looking forward to finding out and hopes he can face one of the legends that HGC has to offer, before the backstage interviewer flips it back to the commentary team</p><p> </p><p>

HGC Cruiserweight Tournament Round 1</p><p>

Mr. Lucha v Dark EAGLE</p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

A contrast in styles here as the Mexican Luchador stylings of Mr. Lucha face the Japanese Super Junior stylings of Dark EAGLE. Lucha and EAGLE start at a very quick pace and it's really hard to keep up with them. A Lucha arm drag opens EAGLE for a stiff kick to the head that stops him in his tracks, but only for a moment as Lucha hops up from his knees and lands and inziguri. The crowd appreciates their back and forth as EAGLE hits a suplex but Lucha makes his way out of a head lock and takes EAGLE's back before hitting a beautiful German Suplex. Here's Lucha's chance and he takes it, hitting the Master Drop (Tombstone), Lucha earns his place in the next round.</p><p> </p><p>

With Cowboy Ricky Dale being confirmed earlier, Rip Chord is also confirmed for the HGC World Heavyweight title tournament. The announcers send it to the backstage announcer for a reaction.</p><p> </p><p>

Rip says he's not surprised that he's involved in the tournament, as he has held the world title in every company he has wrestled in. He says if anybody is championship material, it would be him and that nobody else in the locker room even comes close. At this point, the backstage interviewer seems to be getting some news from her headset when she says that she has just been informed of Rip Chord's opponent.</p><p> </p><p>

From just off the screen, Whistler enters the frame, smirking. He announces that it is him who will face Rip Chord next week. Rip Chord is initially shocked but he soon returns to his trademark smug smile, before saying it'll be nice to beat a mini Sam Strong Strong before facing off against the real thing. </p><p> </p><p>

This match is most one sided of the night as the experience of The Tag Team Specialists give them the advantage. After a demonstration in how to pick a team apart, Joel Bryant ends it with a One Shot Drop (Fireman's Carry Slam) while Robert Oxford makes sure Java can't break up the pin.</p><p> </p><p>

He adds that both these men are tough son of a guns and know that they have to be against the rough Nation of Filth who know their way around a brawl. Pangrazzio is confident in his team though and ends in his signature catchphrase, "They don't call us All Star for nothing" as The Vessey's stay on screen for an extra split second after Coach leaves.</p><p> </p><p>

Sam Strong v Romeo Heartthrob</p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

The match begins the with the crowd cheering for Strong as the two men face off by trading basic wrestling maneuvers. Strong backs Romeo into a corner and as the ref attempts to separate them, Romeo pokes Sam right in the eye and takes advantage. Romeo slows down the match almost to a halt as he has Strong in numerous holds, this gets the fans behind Strong as they chant his name. Sam tries numerous times to escape but Romeo somehow gets him back into a headlock and dictates the pace. But here comes Strong, one elbow to the gut followed by another, and another and the headlock is released. Strong goes off the ropes and is met by a clothesline by Romeo.. But it doesn't affect him. Strong stares back at Romeo, breathing heavily as we see his massive chest get bigger while he inhales. The crowd are going insane as Romeo hits Strong with a punch, no affect. He tries again, still nothing. The third one however, is blocked and Strong returns the punch, then another, and then a final one before Irish whipping Romeo. He bounces off the ropes and gets clattered by a Strong Arm Tactic (Clothesline from hell). The crowd count as the referee's hand slaps the canvas for the one, two, three.</p><p> </p><p>

There was just so many problems with what was happening that many people were pissed off. For one, Manuel Prieto (Mr. Lucha) was giving out about where he was on the card, Larry Vessey wasn't happy about Tribal Warrior. However, the worse one was Liberty. He was really annoyed with what was happening. As you can imagine, Sam only sorted out one of them, he had Stallings fix one and the last one, he did nothing for it. I bet you can guess which one Sam did nothing about. You see Sam was all about having the vets on his side so he made sure Manuel was happy, but Sam had a gift, he could make you believe in anything.</div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

You can bet I was angry. Eagle and I were veterans and we were the second match on the card? "Are you joking?" I said to myself at the time. We were only on screen for six minutes as well but that was something that I could get over. You see the fact that I was low on the card wasn't the problem, it was the fact that guys like the Nation of Filth and Savage Fury were on after us, something Eagle didn't like either. I was a proven commodity. As was Eagle, so we thought we deserved to be on a little later on in the card. Sure it was only TV, but this wasn't something I was going to let go lightly.</div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Before I walked in, I was red, angry. About five minutes, I left saying "Sam Strong, what a great guy". That's how good he was. He persuaded somebody as stubborn as me to believe his philosophy. Why? I was useful, I was a veteran, the young guys respected me. Not everybody would have gotten that kind of response from a booker.</div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

It's one thing if the fans don't like you, but when the booker doesn't like you, that's a whole new story.</div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

See you can win over the fans, if I'm a testament to anything I am to that. The fans hated me in HGC but now in USPW, they like me, I'm over, even if not as much as I used to be. After that match with Joel (Bryant) and Rob(ert Oxford), I remember thinking how far I was behind. Java had a little bit more about him back then, and honestly, probably still does. So when Larry (Vessey) started to complain about my selling, I had a feeling I'd be looking for work on the indy scene soon enough. Larry was quite straight with me, he said that my selling was crap and it needed to improve, right now. I appreciated that. He even mentioned that he was going to go to management and tell them what he thought of me, and it'd be up to them to decide, luckily they decided to keep me around. I learned a lot from Larry, but in that first instance you can bet, he was not happy with me.</div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

With Sam gone from USPW, I guess I can really open about this now. Sam Strong..... was an a$$hole, back in HGC. I think it really hit home that he didn't want me, or any other young talented guy for that matter, to succeed was after that first show in 1997. At least anybody who was popular enough to be near the top of the card. I remember standing just behind the curtain on top of the HGC stage looking at the TV that was showing the broadcast of our show, and I just was thinking...</div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

He didn't say my name, didn't mention our match, didn't mention that I was in his way. Nothing. All about Sam Strong. You can imagine how annoyed I was. It wasn't just anger, I was outraged and upset, all kinds of things. I remember going up to Charlie afterwards and was like "What the hell was that?". Asking why he didn't mention me and this, that and the other. I soon found out that Charlie, was just following the script... That Sam Strong wrote for him. It was one thing losing, and another thing being destroyed by BLZ Bubb, both things of which I was fine with, but me being a complete afterthought! No way was I standing for this, and I told Sam in no uncertain terms what I though of his promo writing skills, he didn't even respond to me. Told me to get the hell out of his office. Thing was I was okay with losing to Homicide. Made quite a lot of sense, you know. The crazy guy on a mission and the beating, looked to me like they were setting up a nice feud between me and Bubb, which Whistler and Homicide could join in a tag match down the road. I soon found that this, was not the case. </div></div>

I think after that first show in 1997, the young guys realised that this was the way it was going to be and that was that.</div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Most people were okay with it, of course Liberty wasn't. I was there when he went into Sam's office and it wasn't pretty. I remember seeing him later and saying that I could do him a favour to get him back in Sam's good books. At least for the time being, thing is, he'd have to do the job. See Liberty didn't understand that everybody has to lose, if you don't want to lose you're in the wrong business. It took awhile but I finally persuaded him to stay. But that program, was weeks away and when I sorted that out, I decided to get down to pushing my guy, Monty Walker. You see that was the thing, if you had one of the four bookers behind you, no matter what age you were, not only would you get screen time, but you'd get wins and storylines. </div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</div></div><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><em>[A now retired Gerrard "Whistler" Lee sat in his office chair, his signature and famous American flag visible behind his head, although slightly blurred. I was 35 at that time, you know. I most certainly wasn't a spring chicken, but to the national audience, I was barely known. Sure I had this gig in PPPW in the East Coast Wars but that was it. I got on well in HGC for one reason, Sam Strong. He got behind me quickly and I was his "guy" so to speak. I don't know why but he did, and everybody knows if the head booker was behind you, you were gonna do okay. I remember people saying about how I was the "mini Sam Strong". Some might see that as an insult, but I was privileged to be mentioned in the same mold as him. I was a somebody, you know and that because Sam got behind me. I wasn't the only one who had a booker backing me.</div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

I saw a bit of myself in Genghis Rahn.</div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</div></div><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><em>[Charlie beamed as he mentioned the man who had become synonymous with hardcore wrestling in TCW. His smile reduced only slightly as he continued] </em></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

In all fairness, all my guys in the Hardcore division had something that made me see myself when I saw them. I think that's why they grabbed my attention. But Rahn, he was my top guy. Some would say other guys in that division had bigger prospects and they were probably right but I liked Rahn because he was me in a younger body. Sam had Whistler, Rip was grooming Walker and I had Rahn. That's the way things worked. We were all different in our approaches though. Sam was only interested in Whistler while Rip wanted to give all the young guys a chance. I would say I was in the middle. I gave the young guys chance to learn but it was Rahn who I really wanted to push. Every booker had their guy, well all except one.</div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</div></div><div style="text-align:center;"><span>http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/HGC/Larry%20Vessey_zpsr2nfkq6p.jpg</span></div><p></p><p></p><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

I don't play favourites.</div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</div></div><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><em>[The legendary Larry Vessey sat in his NYCW office with an emotionless face. Staring blankly into the camera, Vessey shows no sign of informality as he is strictly business speaking about his time in HGC as booker of the tag teams.]</em></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

My job was to book the tag teams and I booked them to make sure we had a tag team division that was legitimate, competitive and could wrestle and they were my only goals. I had the people I knew who could achieve that and I had people who I knew couldn't and it was my job to get them there. I won't say I loved everybody in that division, far from it, but I never held anybody back from what they could achieve. I book the matches, you get yourself over, that has always been my philosophy and that will never change. It was simple, if you couldn't provide a solid performance in the ring, I didn't want you and I made that clear to everybody in that division. Gimmicks weren't that important to me, I never decided them anyway, so why should I have cared. I threw them under the bus, it was their job to escape and prove to the fans why they should be here. </div></div>

Jason Azaria and Kyle Rhodes welcome the fans back to Hollyweird TV. They talk about the continuation of the tournaments in HGC and how they will be finished at Malice in Wonderland at the end of the month. </p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><span>http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/HGC/hgc%20banner_zpshtylkrda.png</span><p> </p><p>

However, how else would a HGC show start but with Sam Strong making his way out to the ring. The fans are delighted to see him and they're cheers are deafening. Strong basks in the reception just listening to the cheers before he begins to speak. He says that he can't wait to be the HGC World Heavyweight champion and at Malice in Wonderland, he will achieve this. He says it'll be a difficult road but he will get there. He then turns his attention to his biggest opposition, which is none other than Rip Chord. He admits that Chord is an immense talent and that their battles over the years are legendary but he promises he will not lose to Rip...</p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><span>http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/HGC/Charlie%20Homicide_zpshksl5l12.jpg</span></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

However, before he can go on the frenzied laughter of a maniac radiates around the arena through the speakers, which indicates the arrival of none other than Charlie Homicide. Sam is physically shaken by his arrival. Homicide is not a happy man as he screams into the microphone stating that Sam should never forget the journey before the destination because sometimes you don't get to where you want to go and you can bet I'll be the one in the air traffic control telling you to crash land. He continues to talk, stating that Sam shouldn't forget what Charlie promised him and he said he will silence the lambs and that Sam is his target. </p><p> </p><p>

Sam acknowledges Charlie's statements, saying that he is definitely not taking their match lightly but he is not a lamb but a lion and nobody can silence a lion</p><p> </p><p>

HGC Cruiserweight Tournament Round 1</p><p>

Monty Walker v Troy Tornado</p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

Walker is on the front foot from the first bell and Tornado really struggles to keep up. Tornado gets his shots in but seems too busy upping himself to the crowd. This causes him to lose numerous advantageous situations which Walker takes advantage of. Tornado can't compete with Walker and just under six minutes Walker ends it with a Moon Walker (Springboard Moonsault)</p><p> </p><p>

HGC Tag Team Tournament Round 1</p><p>

Featured Attraction (Todd Cusson & Damian Carvill) v The Eliminators (Bryan Holmes & Chris Morrisette)</p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

A complete contrast in the two teams here as the "pretty boy" teen idol look of Todd Cusson and Damian Carvill greatly contrast with the down and dirty look of Bryan Holmes and Chris Morrisette. However, with whatever Carvill is outside the ring, he is no pretty boy inside it. Well able to keep up with the known technician that is Bryan Holmes, he does lose the early exchanges but nonetheless keeps himself in the match, before Morrisette comes in with his brute fighting style. Carvill is able to keep the upper hand with a poke to the eye and Cusson comes in. However, the sheer sleekness of Morrisette and Homes overthrows Cusson who is very sloppy. Morrisette knocks Carvill off the apron which allows Holmes to hit a Canadian Kiss (Spinning Whip Kick) and get the three.</p><p> </p><p>

Backstage Rip Chord is being interviewed about his HGC Heavyweight title round one match up tonight. Chord dodges the question and goes straight on to talking about Sam Strong stating that Strong is right, that they have had many battles and that he has come out on top in most of them. He says he looks forward to facing Sam soon when...</p><p> </p><p>

Whistler comes onto the screen. He states that he has been waiting all week for this moment, the moment where he beats a legend and that moment will happen tonight. He says that all of America is behind him, willing him on and Sam Strong has been telling him all of Chords weaknesses. </p><p> </p><p>

Chord laughs at this saying Strong himself doesn't know how to beat him, which means the information Whistler has received is useless. Chord compliments Whistler, telling him he is a hell of a competitor and he knows tonight will be a difficult one before he finishes by saying, the big problem for you isn't me, but him. Chord nods his head indicating a man is standing behind Whistler.</p><p> </p><p>

As the camera zooms out, the hulking figure of BLZ Bubb dwarfs Whistler as Bubb breathes heavily, menacingly staring at Whistler. Whistler shows no fear as he stares back at the monster, before slowly backing away out of frame.</p><p> </p><p>

HGC Hardcore Tournament Round 1</p><p>

Hardcore Match</p><p>

Genghis Rahn v Madman Boone</p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

A bloody match by HGC's standards, Rahn and Boone go to town on each other with chairs, kendo sticks and tables. Both men are bleeding by the end of the bout and crowd enjoy the brawl between these two unknowns. A chair shot by Rahn gets an "oooh" the crowd as the sound of metal smashing Boone's skull radiates around the arena. This is enough to daze Boone to give Rahn the chance to hit Rahn to the Hills (Spinning Death Valley Driver) onto the previously used chair for the win.</p><p> </p><p>

Backstage Richie Pangrazzio Jr is asked by an interviewer about the HGC International title tournament. Richie is happy that he is in it and states he will be going for the win from the very start. He says that his opponent tonight has already lost in a tournament already and he hopes to add another loss to his record tonight.</p><p> </p><p>

At that moment his opponent for tonight, Romeo Heartthrob came out to confront Pangrazzio. He states that he may have lost but all the women were ravished by the sight of his luscious body and tonight will be no different in that regard, but that the result of his match will be different. Richie laughs at Heartthrob, stating that he is nothing but a creepy old man and he is no match for an All-Star such as himself. Heartthrob is shocked by Richie's claims and storms away angry.</p><p> </p><p>

The match is pretty even in the early goings. Jackson is more technical and tries to ground Paez but Paez comes back flying around the ring, he hits an eye poke to take control but can't retain it. Jackson uses his veteran know how to regain the control and that's the end of the contest as Paez can't come back. Jackson the New School Lock (Surfboard) for the win.</p><p> </p><p>

HGC International Title Tournament Round 1</p><p>

Dusty Streets v Peter Valentine</p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

Dusty and Peter start the match very evenly and are very closely matched, which surprises the crowd due to Peter's status as a rookie. Dusty tried to brawl with Peter but he is too strong and refers to a more technical game. Dusty does quite well until Peter hits a sly low blow that the ref doesn't see. This gives him the upper hand, at least for a time until Dusty comes storming back with some baby face fire. Numerous right hands smash Peter's face, one after another, before Dusty bounces off the ropes.... straight into a clothesline. A Heart Breaker (Shoulder Breaker) later, Valentine shocks the world by pinning Dusty Streets.</p><p> </p><p>

As the commentators freak out the the result of the last match, Jason Azaria throws it to the backstage interviewer where the All-Star team of Dick Pangrazzio and The Vessey Brothers. Pangrazzio states that The Vessey Brothers are ready for the demons tonight, but they'll gladly take another week to train and make sure their victory is secure. He continues by saying that The Vessey's are All-Stars and they soon will be All-Star champions.</p><p> </p><p>

HGC World Heavyweight Title Tournament Round 1</p><p>

BLZ Bubb w/ Karen Killer v Cowboy Ricky Dale</p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

The match is a brawl and both men batter each other. Both men get a lot of offense in but it doesn't really affect either man, especially in the early goings. As time foes on though, Dale struggles to keep up with the sheer rage induced Bubb. Bubb takes control and is relentless in his attacks. He is beating Dale, just battering the life and fight out of him. Bubb hits a powerbomb, and that's all she wrote, surely.... no! Dale somehow kicked out, he survived. However, only for the moment as Bubb's rage increases and somehow, his attacks are even more vicious now, with repeated punches to Dale's head causes him to bleed. Dale is completely out of it. Bubb dead lifts Dale up to his feet and hits a Hades Bomb (Double Handed Choke Bomb)... but remarkably Dale kicks out again just before three. Bubb is furious and Karen Killer slides in from the outside, she stands in front of Bubb trying to get him to regain his focus but he pushes her aside and the onslaught begins. Bubb seems to have reached to new levels of violence and batters Dale all around the ring, battering him with punches, smashing him against the ring post on the outside and swinging his head into the apron and Dale is too out of it to protect himself. The referee has no choice but disqualify Bubb and Dale is declared the winner.</p><p> </p><p>

The bell rings as Cowboy Ricky Dale is declared the winner. Karen Killer is standing in the ring facing Bubb. She shouts at him saying that he is an idiot and has cost himself a chance at becoming a world champion. She slaps him across the face, the crowd are shocked. She then stares at him, before stating you want to make an impression, she points at Dale, destroy him so he can't compete anymore she tells the monster, needless to say this is music to Bubb's ears as he begins the onslaught, it's not long before...</p><p> </p><p>

Whistler once again comes to stop the monster. As whistler hits the ring, Killer calls off Bubb and they leave the ring. The crowd are murmuring ominously as Dale is nothing but a bloody mess. Medics rush out to his aid as Whistler is seen again attending to a fallen HGC wrestler.</p><p> </p><p>

HGC International Title Tournament Round 1</p><p>

Romeo Heartthrob v Richie Pangrazzio Jr</p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

Romeo starts the match on top, very much like the match this time last week. He grounds Richie for the early goings but soon Richie comes back, if only for a brief moment. Romeo seems happy to control the match early on, but as the match goes on Richie gets more and more into it, until eventually the baby face fire comeback is on and it is all too familiar to Romeo. Flashbacks of last week filter into his mind and an eye poke makes sure Richie's comeback goes no further. Romeo looks to end it but he can't as Richie drags Romeo into the turnbuckle and here comes Richie. Big punches land to Romeo one after another after another. Romeo is dazed and Richie hits the All-Star Slam (Sidewalk Slam) and that's enough for the victory.</p><p> </p><p>

HGC World Heavyweight Title Tournament Round 1</p><p>

Rip Chord v Whistler</p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

The crowd are quite hot for this match especially the heel work of Chord. They eat up every illegal choke, rake to the eyes and low blow missed by the ref. Although Whistler is no easy fight, Chord outsmarts the patriot as he shows that he is the ultimate tactician taking any opportunity to take advantage for sneaky shots and illegal acts. As the match goes on though, Whistler comes back into it and gets more and more offense and a shoulder block knocks Rip to the ground and Whistler gets quite the cheer from the crowd as he points at the grounded Chord. He goes off the ropes but gets a clothesline for his troubles and Rip is back in control. His approach is methodical but Whistler's is pure passion and here he comes. Power move after power move hit Chord as Whistler builds up a big head of steam and Chord is down. Whistler sets up the Rebel Yell (Three Point Stance) and charges at Rip, he dodges and throws Whistler into the corner, chest first. Dazed, Whistler turns around and Rip Chord DDT (DDT) is hit out of nowhere, and that's it.</p><p> </p><p>

Sam Strong's music begins and Chord lets go of Whistler and he crumbles to the mat. Out comes Strong, running down to the ring and sliding inside it. Of all people, a clearly injured Cowboy Ricky Dale rushes to the, two steel chairs in hand, medical personal rushing behind him trying to stop him. His face still has remnants of the blood it was covered in earlier on it and a bandage is loosely wrapped around his rib cage, the job not quite done before Dale came rushing to the ring. He slowly rolls into the ring and gets to his feet and hands a chair to Strong. The four men stare at each other before the baby faces charge but the heels leave the ring and flee. The crowd cheer as Strong celebrates with Dale in the ring, although Dale doesn't celebrate much as he holds his ribs in pain.</p><p> </p><p>

People always talked about that first week in January being the worst but you could argue the second was worse. People gave out about booking decisions and such so, people were always trying to get themselves heard. In terms of ideas. We had a lot of rooks, or less experienced guys and some of those guys were trying to get some of the vets to like them so the atmosphere backstage was very... weird.</div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

I remember young Carvill, or The Natural as he's known now. Really nice kid and had some talent. That was the show that Richie Pangrazzio Jr was ranting and raving about how good he'll be. He even said it to Sam and Rip, he put his a$$ on the line for that kid. That's the way our locker room was, their were certainly a few cliques going around.</div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Charlie had his group, Sam had his group, Dick Pangrazzio had his group. Then rest then were just the rookies and veterans who liked to keep to themselves. Dusty Streets was one of those guys and he wasn't exactly on good terms with Sam. I can tell you though, he lead that locker room as well as anybody else did. It was that day, that very day in 1997 that the rise of Peter Valentine begin. He came into the sport like Steve Frehley did, beating a guy like Dusty in your first ever match. That's a dream and Dusty was fuming. How he got him to agree to hit is baffling you know, but Dusty was always a professional. That was his shtick almost.</div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

But that was Sam, he made things happen even when they weren't exactly accepted.</div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Sam was a like a dictator.</div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</div></div><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><em>[The most hated man in the wrestling world, Peter Valentine sat down still bursting out of his skin. Everybody was in his back pocket and he knew that. He could say do this and you'd do it. Dusty wasn't anything impressive you know. A midcarder for life, just look at his career in SWF. He was in the midcard while his brother went on to the main event. It was an easy decision to have me go over, I was money. I had the ability to draw like nobody else. That's what matters. Dollar bills and Dusty wasn't going to give you that. Yet Sam would do it to anybody he wanted, much like Richie Pangrazzio Jr. He came up with an idea for the Carvill kid and Sam told him it'd happen, if he did something for him, well, you can probably guess what that was.</div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

I remember it well, Sam made me a deal. Damien was a nice guy, very green. He, ah, asked me if I wanted a coffee before he trained that day. I remember looking at him training and thinking he could be the future and that he just needed promo time. I said it to Rip and Sam just to do my good deed, you know. After that, he hung out with us sometimes. There were a lot of groups like that in HGC. The All-Star team were a group on and off screen and I liked Damian so was kind of a member of it. The Vessey's were always trying to help him, they were in the same division but dad.....</div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</div></div><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><em>[His head drops. The silence creates tension and a lot of it. Thought he needed more work. He was right but he knew there was something there. He always had that knack of knowing what talent needed, my dad. He was a great teacher and a great father, but most of all, he was my friend. I hope I'll see him again... someday.</div></div>

Everybody knows my history.

[Rip sits on his chair with a face of disgrace. His hand on his chin, covering his mouth, not looking at the camera. He slowly makes eye contact with the camera again as he continues to talk.]

Drugs and alcohol weren't good to me, you can look at me and see that I've had my problems. I was clean in 1997 though, I can most certainly say that. I was sitting backstage watching the screen when the match was on and that backstage wasn't exactly the happiest place to be at that time. I knew what was up, and they knew it too.

[He paused for a moment]

And by they I meant his fellow workers in the ring, the crowd, the announcers, hell even Larry (Vessey) who essentially was his booker noticed. I had to do something for the kid. He was on a downward spiral.

http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/HGC/Larry%20Vessey_zpsr2nfkq6p.jpg

He was sloppy

[Larry's expression didn't change, and to say that what was on his face was an expression is pushing it. He stared blankly at the camera, his eyes black with coldness. ]

That's what bothered me the most. He ruined a match I had high expectations for. The guys were young, but they were good, they just needed experience in front of the camera's to learn the nuances and they'd get there. Thing is, we knew what he was like and I still put him out there. As far as I'm concerned, your personal problems are exactly that, personal. I don't need or care to hear about them. You have problems, you deal with them and the consequences that come with them, it wasn't my job to get the kid clean.

http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/HGC/Bryan%20Holmes_zpsuo2qzgri.jpg

Back then, I was really pissed off with him.

[The now veteran Bryan Holmes sits in front of the camera, with a down to earth look on his face. His calm and professional demeanor is identical to the role model employee of the industry and the reputation he has earned over the years is very much deserved.]

The thing is you learn a lot when you've been in the industry a long time. It's just that kind of business. You have a match, the back is a bit sore, you deal with it, but then it never goes away, so you pop a pill, or smoke a joint or drink 'til you can't feel anything anymore. But that pain comes back so you do it again and again to null the pain. We've all been there, it's just most of us can stop and do something that'll help without destroying our bodies. Some can't. After seven years in the business, you don't know this. So you can imagine how devastated I was that I had to perform with somebody who was out of his brain on drink and drugs. This was my opportunity to shine, and I thought I could have really accomplished something with Todd and Damian, unfortunately, that couldn't happen. Back then, I wanted to kill him. Now, I understand what he was going through.

http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/HGC/The%20Hype_zps96io7svw.jpg

I was a mess.

[sitting backstage at a show, Todd "The Hype" Cusson looked in decent health. Using his elbows to lean on his legs looking forward at the camera. His demeanor is pretty happy, a smile on his face as he continues to speak.]

I had drink and drugs in my system, probably a lethal amount. I suppose when you get to the point that I was at, your body builds up an immunity in a way. I started drinking at twelve, a year after my parents died. Starting smoking weed at 14, was on heroin and cocaine at 15, ecstasy at 16, acid at 17, was fired from SWF at 18, arrested for possession at 19.

[His smile turning to a shameful smirk]

There's no excuse from what I did that night. I could have killed two people in the ring, and I've apologised to Bryan (Holmes) and Chris (Morrisette) a thousand times over, but I don't expect them to forgive me. It wasn't the first time I had done that and it certainly wasn't the last either but that's the one I'm most ashamed of, I could have ended their careers with my stupidity. Luckily they have gone on to be extremely successful, and with their talent it's not a surprise. However, back then, I was selfish. I was all about myself. I had to learn, to mature, to grow into a human being instead of being a zombie. That's where Rip Chord came in.

Rip and I.... didn't exactly get on.

[Jack Bruce sat there his hair styled perfectly. His headband, that is now synonymous with his look, is keeping his hair off his face. A lovable yet smug smirk is plastered on his face, Bruce's charisma projects off the screen, even outside the wacky world of professional wrestling.]

I was a bit of a party animal at the time, Rip didn't like that, but he knew I could make money. Rip was like that, if you could make money, he'd help you, give you time. Seems I was at the bottom of the card, at least at that time, Rip was my booker. Now, the thing was when the tournament thingy began, Sam wanted big stars in it, wanted the midcard belt to actually mean something, seems weird, I know but it's no surprise when you really think about it. So guys like Dusty Streets, Richie Pangrazzio Jr, The Flames and Romeo Heartthrob were all apart of it. So nobody really knew who was going to the booker. Sam because of the main eventers, or Rip because he was the midcard booker. So, Sam picked the winner and Rip did the rest, that's how it was and if Sam had booked it all, things would have been a little different.

Sam wanted me to be a midcarder.

[Dusty Streets sat in his chair, calmly. It is well known that Dusty did not enjoy his time in HGC. His dislike of Sam Strong has lasted throughout the years, his frustration, still evident even this long after his run. Clearly frustrated, but staying as calm as he possibly can, he continues to speak.]

I put over that buffoon and truthfully, it didn't matter if I agreed to it or not, at the end of the day, I was doing it. Sam was like that. You did things his way and that was it. I hated HGC. People know this. It's not because I put people over or whatever, I never saw myself as a top guy anyway. It's the way Sam put me down. I could have been an asset to him, but I was nothing. That's where my blood boils. A lot of vet's won't put over the new talent. I wasn't one of them, I'd put guys over, within reason. You put Jack Bruce up against me, I'd happily stare at the lights. Put that roid junkie in front of me, you know I'm going to complain.

As you can imagine, the locker room was divided.

[Rip Chord said, his face firm with confidence, leaning forward slightly.]

One side the vets, the other the youngsters. There was a few guys that would bridge the gap, like myself and the Vesseys. We tried what we could and we knew what these guys could do if given the chance. The thing was Sam was pushing people who were his buddys. That's all well and good, but if you have guys like Dusty Streets and The Flames in the back and they aren't happy, you have to expect some backlash. Truthfully, Sam knew there needed to be a future for the industry, it's just his selected guys weren't exactly the most talented. Sure, Whistler had something. No doubt. It's just he was a less talented Sam Strong, and when you have Sam Strong, why would you need a new one. Other people deserved to be pushed. And if Sam wasn't going to do it, I was going to make sure they got their chance.

The HGC International Title's first round will continue as Jack Bruce faces off against Teddy Flame while his partner Joey Flame faces the veteran Jimmy Power. These four men will be cut down to two as they will join Richie Pangrazzio Jr and Peter Valentine in the semi finals.

The Cruiserweight title will get their semi finals under way on Tuesday. Mr. Lucha will take on fellow seasoned veteran in Golden Fox. Which of these veteran cruiserweight competitors will be in the final and have a chance to be crowned the first cruiserweight champion America has ever had.
