Owen Hart vs. Bret Hart - Bret on top isn't doing well, it's time for a change and the 2nd biggest PPV of the year is the place to crown a new top dog.

Randy Savage vs. Diesel - Randy's going, Diesel is the lucky man to get the rub on his way out.

The Steiner Brothers vs. The Headshrinkers vs. Demolition - They're the biggest draws in the division, keep the good times rolling

Shawn Michaels vs. 1-2-3 Kid - Shawn shouldn't be far away from main eventing some of the lesser PPV's...can't see anything other than a win.

Tatanka vs. Lex Luger - Lex may have been a bust in real life, but he can still make it here. Tatanka however won't ever be much more than a novelty midcard act. Lex wins

Houston Heat vs. The Smoking Gunns - Need the titles on a heel team for The Steiners to come in and face.

The Undertaker vs. Yokozuna - Yokozuna will rest in peace.

The Fabulous Rougeaus vs. Pierre And Johnny Polo - Bit of a toss up, but see more of a future for Pierre and Polo so see them getting the win.

Jake Roberts vs. Irwin R. Schyster - Jake to win, but will turn up drunk and derail any kind of push he's likely to get.

Buddy Landel And Jeff Jarrett vs. ??? - This is the toughest one to call. Buddy + Jeff seem set up to win, but I wouldn't expect a mystery opponent to come in and lose. I'll go with the mystery opponents to take it.

Week 4, August 1994

News and Tidbits from WCW

-Clash of the Champions was a huge success for World Championship Wrestling with nearly 2 million viewers around the world tuning in. However, many within the organization were disappointed that while the show was a huge success, many of the fans failed to provide feedback. One source within WCW said "It's like they changed the channel as soon as the show was over."

-As previously discussed here, Hulk Hogan is taking some time off in September to heal from his injury and film some tv spots, so he will not be appearing at the Fall Brawl ppv.

-WCW has been attempting to enter into negotiations with some new talent but has been rejected for reasons beyond explanation.

Rumor Mill

-Larry Zbyszko returned to action at Clash of the Champions, aligning himself with Arn Anderson and the Rhodes family. This is now headed for War Games, but the question is, who is the 5th man? Arn says he knows a guy and the strong implication is that Tully Blanchard will soon be busting brains in WCW.

-The whole wrestling world knows that Randy Savage's contract is coming up with the WWF. What will happen is anyone's guess. We hear that the WWF is desperate to keep him and may try to entice him with championship gold!

-Dusty Rhodes has been pushing WCW management to kick off a tag team tournament of the best tag teams around the world. The talent seems to be there. We already know that WCW negotiated with the Miracle Violence Connection for the Japanese Super Show.

-Speaking of the Super Show, WCW World in Japan, all signs point to that being one of the biggest shows in history. WCW has already booked Budokan Hall and is negotiating with top stars of various Japanese promotions.

-WCW is dead set on Sting vs Ric Flair at Fall Brawl.

-What is to become of Sid Vicious? He is clearly a draw for the company but there is no creative direction for him beyond a very expensive bodyguard for Ric Flair.

-Diana Hart Smith has been around WCW management offices lately and there is a lot of talk about bringing her in as an on-air talent.

Around the World

-Dave "Fit" Finlay, who participated in WCW's European Cup tournament, is the NWA World Heavyweight Champion. Congrats to the Belfast Bruiser.

-A kid was seen wearing a Buddy Landel shirt recently in Ethiopia. I guess that answers the question of whatever happened to the one piece of merchandise that Buddy Landel ever sold.

"The Nature Boy" Buddy Landel grabs a mic and talks about the heritage connected to his nickname; how it all started with the great, late Buddy Rogers who - among many other accolades - became the very first WWF World Heavyweight champion on April 25, 1963 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Landel says that sadly, the Nature Boy legacy has for many years now been tainted by a man who is now but a shadow of his former self. A man who recently embarrassed both himself, the great Buddy Rogers and Landel when being beaten by a bald-headed guy from Atlanta who's closer to 60 than 30. But fear not, for Landel is here in WWF to restore the monicker of The Nature Boy to its former glory and make sure that the World Heavyweight Championship will once again be around the waist of a true champion! Wooooo!

Jake Roberts vs. Irwin R. Schyster (w/Ted DiBiase)

"The Snake" got the victory after botched interference by Bam Bam Bigelow, who nailed IRS by accident with a chair as Roberts ducked and afterwards threw Bigelow out of the ring before pinning IRS.

Winner: Jake Roberts

Match length: 14:04

Rating: B

Bigelow was not pleased with the results of the match and took his frustrations out on Roberts, whom he laid out in the center of the ring.

The Fabulous Rougeaus vs. Pierre And Johnny Polo

Jacques defeated Pierre by submission with a Boston Crab in what could very well be the end of this bitter feud.

Winners: The Fabulous Rougeaus

Match length: 10:33

Rating: C+

Jim Cornette, as Yokozuna's American representative, informs the audience that tonight, The Undertaker will be crushed by the sheer brute force of Yokozuna - and this time, he won't be coming back. Yokozuna has defeated The Undertaker in a casket match once before, and Cornette will be making damn sure that he'll do so again. And when he does, there'll be no kind of supernatural prayers or offerings or anything of the kind Paul Bearer will be able to conjure to bring The Undertaker back. This time, he'll be buried... for good.

Rating: B+

Casket match:

The Undertaker (w/Paul Bearer) vs. Yokozuna (w/Mr. Fuji and Jim Cornette)

The Undertaker gained the early advantage, but Yokozuna reversed the momentum with a Samoan drop. He tried to put The Undertaker in the casket, but The Undertaker fought back. Yokozuna next performed a leg drop and placed The Undertaker in the casket. Before Yokozuna could close the lid, however, The Undertaker attacked him and the two wrestlers fought while standing in the casket. The Undertaker performed a clothesline from the top rope and placed Yokozuna in the casket. Buddy Landel and Jeff Jarrett came down the aisle toward the ring and attacked The Undertaker. They placed The Undertaker in the casket, but The Undertaker recovered before Yokozuna could close the lid. Landel and Jarrett then tried to interfere on Yokozuna's behalf again, but The Undertaker stopped them with a Double Chokeslam. The Undertaker then performed a DDT and a big boot on Yokozuna after which he rolled his opponent in to the casket and closed the lid to gain the victory.

Winner: The Undertaker

Rating: B-

After the match, The Undertaker corners Jim Cornette. Landel and Jarrett attempts to save him, but are both taken down. Suddenly, some weird-looking druids kled in all-black roll out another casket. The Undertaker then slowly points first at Cornette, then at the casket. Jim Cornette pleads with The Undertaker. He is handed a microphone by Paul Bearer, who tells Cornette that he has just ONE chance of escaping his destiny: by delivering the truth... Cornette then admits that himself and Yokozuna where paid off by DiBiase and claims that he tried to talk Yokozuna out of attacking The Undertaker in the first place (the latter which not even Cornette's own mother would believe). He promises that in exchange for mercy, he will cut all ties both with Yokozuna as well as Ted DiBiase. The Undertaker seems satisfied with this outcome, and allows a frightened Cornette to leave with Landel and Jarrett.

WWF World Tag Team Championship match:

Houston Heat (w/Sunny) vs. The Smoking Gunns ©

Sunny's boys seemed eager to bring back the tag team gold to Houston and put up a strong fight. Their efforts ended however when Billy Gunn defeated Stevie Ray by pinfall with a Sidewinder. Sunny unsuccessfully attempted to distract the referee with her obvious charms while he was doing the 3-count, but he did not fall for it.

Winners, and still champions: The Smoking Gunns

Match length: 15:46

Rating: B-

Owen Hart cuts a promo on his brother, Bret. He says that Bret has achieved a great many things. He's achieved everything there is to be achieved in the World Wrestling Federation. He has won the Tag Team Championship, the Intercontinental Championship, the World Championship... he has done it all. But Owen points out that he's talking past tense here - because tonight, nothing that Bret has ever achieved means a damn thing. At WrestleMania X, Owen beat Bret 1... 2... 3. And tonight, he will make Bret submit. Because Owen is better than Bret. He will surpass Bret. Because Owen, not Bret, is the King of Harts. He knows it, every man, woman and child in the audience knows it - and most importantly, Bret knows it...

Tatanka vs. Lex Luger (w/Ted DiBiase??)

The match began with the two wrestlers arguing. Luger relied on his power by punching and performing a shoulderblock. Tatanka focused on wearing Luger down with a wristlock and an armbar. After Luger performed a vertical suplex, Tatanka recovered and powerslammed Luger. Eventually, DiBiase came to ringside with a bag of money. As Luger yelled at DiBiase, Tatanka performed a schoolboy roll-up for the victory. After the match, Tatanka revealed that he had joined DiBiase's corporation. Tatanka attacked Luger and used the Million Dollar Dream, DiBiase's signature move, on Luger before leaving with DiBiase.

Winner: Tatanka

Match length: 16:53

Rating: C+

"The Million Dollar Man" makes it clear that Luger made the mistake of his life refusing his offer. He states that he does not trust a man that does not have a price. But luckily, he can clearly trust Tatanka, who is a lot smarter than Luger. He ends the segment with an evil laugh.

Shawn Michaels vs. 1-2-3 Kid

In a bout that had good wrestling and a decent reaction from the crowd, Shawn Michaels defeated 1-2-3 Kid by pinfall with a Sweet Chin Music. The match dragged on for far longer than HBK would have wanted it to, obviously frustrating him at great length. The Kid can be proud of his performance.

Winner: Shawn Michaels

Match length: 15:29

The Steiner Brothers vs. The Headshrinkers (w/Afa and Lou Albano) vs. Demolition

A good, solid tag team bout between three hard-hitting, always fighting teams. The Steiners ultimately came out at top when Scott defeated Samu with a Steiner Recliner.

Match length: 12:44

Rating: B-

Lord Hayes is interviewing Bret Hart about his upcoming match to defend his World Heavyweight Championship against his brother, Owen. They talk about the road that has taken them here tonight. They talk about the past, the present and the future before Bret says that he has a message for Owen: "I am the best that there is, was and ever will be, and if you got a problem with it, too bad."

Rating: B+

WWF Intercontinental Championship match:

vs.

Diesel used his size against Savage, but Savage managed to perform a Choke hold on Diesel. After this was broken, the wrestlers fought outside the ring. Michaels got involved and attacked Savage. Back inside the ring, Savage and Diesel fought as Michaels removed the turnbuckle pad. Savage reversed Diesel's attack, however, and slammed Diesel's head into the turnbuckle. Savage put Diesel in a Sleeper hold, but Diesel easily reached the ropes to break the hold. Diesel set up a Jackknife Powerbomb, but Savage managed to reverse it and throw Diesel over his back using all his built-up strength. While the referee was dazed after taking a bump, Michaels entered the ring and tried to perform a superkick while Diesel held Savage. Savage moved, causing Michaels to kick Diesel instead. Savage pinned Diesel to win the match and the Intercontinental Championship in what is an upset that is sure to shock the internet wrestling community.

Winner, and new champion: Randy Savage

Rating: B

After the match, Diesel is visibly unhappy with Shawn Michaels - who in turn is very apologetic. The two of them argue all the way to the back.

WWF World Heavyweight Championship submission match:

As Owen Hart entered the ring, he immediately attacked Bret. Bret gained the advantage by performing a DDT. Owen kicked Bret in the head and tried to put on an early Sharpshooter, but Bret escaped it. The brothers both tried to apply the Sharpshooter several times back and forth, but neither would let the other succeed. The match consisted mainly of a series of technical holds, but also saw an exciting brawling spot when the two exchanged punches while standing on the top rope. Bret applied a Figure Four Leglock on Owen, but Owen managed to reach for the ropes. Owen performed a piledriver on Bret, but Bret came back by throwing Owen head first into an exposed turnbuckle. Owen recovered and performed the Sharpshooter on Bret, but Bret escaped and used the same move on Owen. Owen went for another Piledriver on Bret, but Bret reversed the move and performed one on Owen instead. Jim Neidhart, whom the referee, Earl Hebner, and Bret had in turn managed to prevent having a noticeable impact on the match, managed to distract the referee as Bret put on the Sharpshooter and made Owen submit! Bret let go of the hold to get Hebner's attention and knock Neidhart off the ropes, which Owen exploited to land a hit on Bret's right knee with his own title belt - while Hebner was busy ejecting Neidhart from ringside. Owen then locked on the Sharpshooter and made Bret, who was suffering from the title belt hit, submit! The King of Harts is new World Champion! Most of the match was a true technical masterpiece - but sadly, the crowd did not really appreciate a such as their main event...

Winner, and new champion: Owen Hart

After the match, instead of celebrating, Owen and Neidhart decided to further punish Bret and target his wounded knee. Suddenly, a well-known face in WWF rushes to the ring to rid it of Owen and Neidhart and save Bret... it's Mr. Perfect! The Perfect One makes the save!

Can see the Luger feud going all he way to survivor series with a classic elimination match....Roberts, snake, maybe taker? and someone else against money corp and Yoko? big potential there!

Owen getting the title......YES YES YES!! and the return of Perfect.... was....perfect, be interesting to see what he can still do

got a lot of directions to go after that PPV....nice! oh and not even sure how my predictions went but don't care as it was a great PPV

He was very close to signing for WCW to feud with Hogan (Brutus Beefcake ended up taking his place), but ultimately decided that he'd rather just sit at home and collect his insurance policy untill it ran out. Once the money stopped flowing in from his insurance policy, he resumed wrestling.

Was supposed to feud with Luger post WMX, was supposed to join WCW to work with Flair against Hogan at the end of 94, was supposed to return to the ring to feud with HHH and backed out, etc. It was always about balancing a paycheck with his Lloyds policies.

Hennig should have been the third man at Bash in that case, Hogan always seemed like a waste to me.
