<span style="font-size:18px;"><strong>Hot Topic: Gimmicks in QAW</strong></span></p><p><span style="font-size:18px;"><strong>

</strong></span></p><p>

<span>http://i.imgur.com/Qz1443V.jpg</span> <span>http://i.imgur.com/mJyxOlO.jpg</span></p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Billy:</strong> ...and after the messages from those sponsors, back to my guest, my good friend and rival wrestling podcaster extraordinaire, Phil Vibert!</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Phil:</strong> As long as you stay behind me in ratings, anytime Billy. If you overtake me, I will take you down.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Billy: </strong>Hahahaha… Well, it won’t happen soon, so good for me I guess? I’m glad you could take time out of your busy schedule. Getting to take part of your insight in the business is invaluable.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Phil:</strong> When it comes to QAW, I think The Wrestling Gazetteer and its podcast is the place to go, but I’m a fan and as such I have...opinions.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Billy:</strong> Gloves off it sounds. From our deep pile of listener questions, we’ve picked a topic we both wanted to dig into.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Phil:</strong> Yeah, from the ideas you sent me, all of them could be an hour’s worth of discussion, easily. But I want to discuss gimmicks today.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Billy:</strong> How do you want to do this? </p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Phil:</strong> I think tradition demands we make a list. Let’s do Top 5 gimmicks in QAW, and then dive into the muck and do the Worst 5.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Billy:</strong> Oh dear. I still have interviews to do in QAW. Let’s pray I’m still allowed in after this.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Phil: </strong>Journalistic integrity my friend, and ratings. </p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Billy:</strong> Alright, let’s do it. I have my list ready, do you? </p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><span>http://i.imgur.com/oz8ZpSz.jpg</span> </div><p></p><p></p><p>

<strong>Phil:</strong> I’ll start. In fifth, I have the Shockwave champion. To embody our idea of a snake without making it silly is a challenge and Purple Viper does it great.</p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><span>http://i.imgur.com/nI873Lc.jpg</span> </div><p></p><p></p><p>

<strong>Billy:</strong> No question. I had Deborah Young in 5th with her bully character, but she hasn’t had much opportunity to show it off lately.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Phil: </strong>Also a solid choice. Wrong, but solid. I want to see some bullying, Billy!</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Billy:</strong> Kids if you listen to this, don’t be a bully. It’s not cool.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Phil:</strong> The strong float to the top Billy. </p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Billy:</strong> I really don’t think we’re sending the right message here, but let’s go to the next on your list.</p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><span>http://i.imgur.com/vrW0gLX.jpg</span> </div><p></p><p></p><p>

<strong>Phil:</strong> Alright. In 4th, I have Foxxy LaRue, the defender of QAW. The shield and the backbone all wrapped up in one.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Billy:</strong> Same on my list, actually. When she abandoned the Bad Girls Club, turned a new leaf and took on this new role, it was an incredibly impactful moment. </p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Phil: </strong>The fans eat it up. A good gimmick requires that the worker really understand their motivation and it feels like Foxxy does.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Billy:</strong> Ok, three names left. I have a feeling we have the same three left, but maybe in different order?</p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><span>http://i.imgur.com/Heo5HkZ.jpg</span> </div><p></p><p></p><p>

<strong>Phil:</strong> We’ll find out. On my list, number 3 is the Chitose Ariwara. I suppose you could call this gimmick the “bubbly babyface”. I hate the idea, but then why am I grinning like an idiot every time she’s out there talking to us? </p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Billy:</strong> I had no idea you were such a softie Phil.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Phil:</strong> You shut up. </p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Billy:</strong> No, I’m with you. I don’t know if we’ll see someone embody that type of babyface in this generation.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Phil:</strong> We have someone on the Worst 5 list who might be undergoing a transformation of their gimmick as we speak, but more about that later. Who’s third on your list?</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Billy:</strong> Chitose was actually number one on my list, for the record. </p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Phil:</strong> And you accuse me of being the softie?</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Billy: </strong>My daughter wants to be Chitose when she grows up. The thing is, I don’t think she’s acting out there. If she does, she should have become a thespian instead of a wrestler. I believe her when she says she wants to be a role model, and I *want* my daughter to grow up to be like her. </p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Phil:</strong> Damn, Billy… I don’t know what to say… You really are a mark.</p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><span>http://i.imgur.com/TsoCedO.jpg</span> </div><p></p><p></p><p>

<strong>Billy:</strong> Sue me. Number three on my list is Juana Huracán, the MMA Bad Ass.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Phil:</strong> My number two.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Billy:</strong> When Juana gets in the ring, you really believe she has the capability to beat the crap out of you. I don’t know if she has any actual MMA background, but she sells it really well.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Phil:</strong> She has trained for MMA. I’m not aware if she’s made her debut or not. You’re right though. I believe she could kick your head off clean. I’m just waiting for her big push. </p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Billy:</strong> So I’ve revealed my number one and you have revealed your number two. Does that mean we only have one name left?</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Phil:</strong> I would presume so. Your number two and my number one. On three? One, two..</p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><span>http://i.imgur.com/SrJMR1G.jpg</span> </div><p></p><p></p><p>

<strong>(in unison):</strong> Killer Kass!</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Phil:</strong> She really has made an impact since her debut last winter, hasn’t she? The restrained menace, the mercenary attitude. I love it!</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Billy:</strong> It’s hard not to be intimidated, right? I interviewed her over the phone and I was threading carefully. I don’t want to get on her bad side.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Phil:</strong> But let’s get to the juicy part of this. Who’s got the worst gimmicks in QAW?</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Billy:</strong> The gimmicks might work in theory, but in the hands of the wrong worker...not so much.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Phil:</strong> I repeat. Who do you think has the worst gimmick in QAW? </p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><span>http://i.imgur.com/JDg7ZNg.jpg</span> </div><p></p><p></p><p>

<strong>Billy: </strong>Oh man, I hate to do this. Christy Higgins. </p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Phil: </strong>I thought you were going to say Fuyuko Higa, but fine. If you keep in mind how incredible Chitose Ariwara works basically the same gimmick, it’s hard to understand how awkward it has been in Christy’s hands.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Billy: </strong>But you think something is going on with her gimmick?</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Phil:</strong> Oh, no doubt. I just don’t know where she’ll end up, but speculating is fun, right? Question is if she’s turning heel or not. If she is, maybe something like Bitter Veteran? There are many options.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Billy:</strong> It would be fun if she changed to something outrageous, but I don’t see that in how she’s being booked.</p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><span>http://i.imgur.com/xYuulxj.jpg</span> </div><p></p><p></p><p>

<strong>Phil:</strong> Right now, any change is good change. What do you think about Higa’s rebel gimmick?</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Billy:</strong> I think I hate it a little less than Higa does. </p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Phil:</strong> Only because you’re projecting how Teresa Perez handles the same gimmick.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Billy:</strong> She’s working the gimmick. I don’t know if Higa doesn’t want to or don’t know what to do with it.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Phil:</strong> I think those are the clear top offenders. Any other gimmicks that don’t work for you?</p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><span>http://i.imgur.com/URwMR50.jpg</span> </div><p></p><p></p><p>

<strong>Billy:</strong> I feel like I’m nitpicking now. I don’t feel Lily Snyder is helped by her...I don’t even know what to call it. Her lack of a gimmick? Back when Anderson & Snyder were tag team champions, it was something cool about the bad ass that didn’t need a gimmick, just went out there and beat people up. Now, it translates into lack of personality.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Phil: </strong>I don’t know… I like the no nonsense style. But I hear ya. It’s been a while and not much is happening.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Billy:</strong> I’m sorry Phil, I’m such a fan I don’t think I can make a five worst. I’m already stretching it with these three.</p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><span>http://i.imgur.com/UsrKpsP.jpg</span> </div><p></p><p></p><p>

<strong>Phil:</strong> What about Maria Guest? Yet another bubbly babyface. What on earth is going on? I can’t take it! </p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Billy:</strong> I’d love to see Maria turn heel, but come on Phil. She’s working that gimmick fine. </p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Phil:</strong> I swear I’ll die early from bubbly babyface induced diabetes.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Billy:</strong> I imagine that’s how the Wrestling Gazetteer podcast finally becomes the number one wrestling podcast. I’ll outlast you. </p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Phil:</strong> I’ll haunt you.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Billy:</strong> With that, I think it’s time to wrap up a show that has already gone way over time. Thanks to Phil Vibert. Check out his podcast to keep up with what's going on all over the big world of wrestling.</p>

<p>Without spoiling anything, I think the ones that are most problematic are the ones with weak but not *terrible* gimmicks - like Lily Snyder. Maybe better to keep her as is, letting them job to other hotter commodities rather than risk changing her into something that could bomb.</p><p> </p><p>

The advantage of having the worst gimmicks in the company is that Christy and Higa *will* change, and soon. If their new gimmicks bomb as well, they might be out of the company for good.</p>

In the end, Etsuko's plucky resistance is futile as Charity hits her with the Sugar Smack, getting the pin.</div><div><b>Charity Sweet win in 12:26 by pinfall</b></div><div><b>Match Rating: C+</b></div></p><p>

It's clear these women don't like each other much. Maria steps out of the ring letting Alexis start, which Ava and Lily take advantage of, jumping her 2 on 1 for an instant advantage. Anderson and Snyder tag in and out frequently, effectively cutting off the ring, keeping Alexis down and preventing her from tagging out.</div><div><br/></div><div>Before Maria even gets to see any action Alexis has kicked out of a couple 2-counts. When she finally manages to tag in Maria, it signifies a big shift in the match as Maria goes on to clean house with half nelson's and snap suplexes, not stopping even when Lily Snyder jumps into the ring to stop what might as well have been a runaway train, because before she know it, Lily too find herself on her back. Maria see the carnage she's caused and turn for a moment to the fans, giving out a cry of triumph. She's not distracted long enough to be blindsided when Lily and Ava gets back to their feet, but this time they're more coordinated, and even if Maria manages to throw Lily out of the ring, it's at the price of big boot from Ava. </div><div><br/></div><div>This time it's Alexis turn to invade the ring, breaking up Ava's attempt att pinning Maria. Referee Erin Lawrence is really tired of the ring invasions by now and shoos Alexis away. The interruption is enough for Maria to recover, counter Ava's attempt to put her out of commission for good, and tag in Alexis who immediately climbs to the top turnbuckle and delivers a double boot stomp, right into the pin. Lily Snyder tries to get in to interfere, but is too late.</div><div><b>Alexis Lee win in 8:59 by pinfall</b></div><div><b>Match Rating: C+</b></div><div><br/></div><div><span>http://i.imgur.com/JDg7ZNg.jpg</span>  vs <span>http://i.imgur.com/9pIGoQA.jpg</span> </div><div><b>Match 2: Christy Higgins vs Pamela Rojo (Group B)</b></div><div>Pamela comes out strong, pushing Christy around the ring, slamming her to the mat and into the corner posts. It becomes the story of the match - Pamela looking strong, but Christy refusing to give up despite being knocked down over and over again, searching for that big counter that would turn the match around. That moment comes when Pamela bull rushes Christy who steps out of the way, pushing Pamela head first into the corner post. When Pamela wobbles out from the turn buckle, Christy hits her with a Florida Upswing, knocking her out cold.</div><div><b>Christy Higgins win in 9:46 by pinfall</b></div><div><b>Match Rating: C-</b></div><div><br/></div><div><span>http://i.imgur.com/vrW0gLX.jpg</span>  vs <span>http://i.imgur.com/oz8ZpSz.jpg</span> </div><div><b>Match 3: Foxxy LaRue vs Purple Viper (Group B)</b></div><div>Purple Viper come into the ring with her Shockwave title held up in front of her, pushing it in the face of Foxxy LaRue who scoffs and push the Mexican luchadora away, which nearly make a full on brawl erupt if it wasn't for referee Erin Lawrence getting between them. </div><div><br/></div><div>As soon as the bell rings, Foxxy goes to close the distance, but Purple Viper immediately rolls out of the ring, denying the crowd any wrestling. </div><div><b>Foxxy LaRue win in 18:54 by pinfall</b></div><div><b>Match Rating: B (80)</b></div><div><br/></div><div><span style="color: rgb(34, 34, 34); font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: small; font-style: normal; font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-caps: normal; font-weight: normal; letter-spacing: normal; orphans: 2; text-align: left; text-indent: 0px; text-transform: none; white-space: normal; widows: 2; word-spacing: 0px; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255); display: inline !important; float: none;">

Each clip is interspersed with crowd reaction shots, from angry fans giving the thumbs down via children crying at their favorites being destroyed to Capitano getting into a fist fight with a front row fan. </div><div><br/></div><div>The reaction from the fans in the Friedman Building is similar to that on the screen, and one fan in the front row hurling abuse in particular catches Capitano's attention. She gets up in his face and start mouthing off back, then grabs his plastic cup of beer and pours it over him. He looks stunned, and before there is time for it to escalate, security goes between them and Capitano gets into the ring, soaking up the crowd's loathing.</div><div><b>Segment Rating: A</b></div><div><br/></div><div><span>http://i.imgur.com/Heo5HkZ.jpg</span>  vs <span>http://i.imgur.com/ZGbvgUH.jpg</span> </div><div><b>Match 4: Chitose Ariwara vs Capitano (Group A)</b></div><div>Initially, the two go back and forth in tests of strength, in technical mat wrestling, turning to exchanging knife chops before Chitose straight up drops Capitano with a roundhouse kick. Capitano looks a bit stronger, while Chitose's repertoire of moves is near unlimited. Whatever she needs at the moment she'll pull out of her back pocket. When Capitano goes to the top turnbuckle, Chitose climbs via the middle rope to take air for an awe inspiring enzuigiri that drops Capitano to the arena floor.</div><div><br/></div><div>After an initial crossbody from the ring apron, Chitose find herself in an environment where she's clearly not at her best, and soon the more ruthless Capitano takes advantage of all the hard surfaces she can slam Chitose into. She makes the announce team vacate their table and drags the japanese high flier up onto it, teasing a power bomb, relishing in the reactions of the crowd, but takes too much time, allowing Chitose to slip through her grip, stuns Capitano with quick kick to the gut turning the table on Capitano, driving her through the table with a package power bomb.</div><div><br/></div><div>Capitano looks out of it as the referee start counting them out. Rather than winning by count out, Chitose drags Capitano into the ring, both of them making it by the eight-count. Just as Chitose is about to cover Capitano for the pin, a few chords hit the speaker system as Killer Kass come walking down the ramp, cracking her knuckles. Naturally, Chitose is alarmed, asks referee Erin Lawrence to do something, and generally forgetting about Capitano who quietly gets to her feet, steadying her legs while Kass get right up to the ring apron, ignoring the requests from Erin Lawrence that she get away from the ring. Just when Chitose finally remembers that she has another opponent in the ring, Capitano come charging in with a flying knee that hits Chitose right in the head. She follows it up by lifting the small japanese wrestler slamming her into the mat with a michinoku driver, then going for the finisher from the top rope, a springboard 450 splash right into the pin, 1-2-3.</div><div><b>Capitano wins in 21:02 by pinfall</b></div><div><b>Match Rating: B (80)</b></div><div><br/></div><div><span>http://i.imgur.com/0Hskf5g.jpg</span>  <span>http://i.imgur.com/koWhAJc.jpg</span> </div><div>In the gorilla position, tag team partners Paige Croft and Maribel Mercado are waiting to make their entrance before their match against each other, and from their expressions it's quite obvious that they are in different mental states - Maribel looks like she's waiting for the execution squad, while Paige mostly looks like she's about to do the most routine thing in the world.</div><div><br/></div><div>"Hey, Paige... Er, good luck out there, ok? Just a contest right, no matter who wins," Maribel finally says, hesitantly.</div><div><br/></div><div>Paige's non-plussed expression turns dark. "Luck? I beg your pardon? I know you suffer illusions of grandeur, but you need to understand that while we are tag team 'partners', that does not make us equals. I am a champion, you are and let me phrase this as kindly as I can - a hopeful novice. One day, a long ways into the future there might be a day when the student beats the master, but don't raise your hope to experience it any time soon."</div><div><br/></div><div>Halfway into Paige's spiel, Maribel' folds her arms, and apprehension turn into annoyance. "It was just a polite turn of phrase. I wonder who's suffering illusions of grandeur here. 'Master'? 'Student'? I'm sorry, but that usually imply certain things - teaching, imparting of wisdom, that kind of thing. Sure you're bossy, but I don't recall any of those things."</div><div><br/></div><div>"Then you haven't watched closely enough and this match might be a good lesson," Paige snarls just as her music hits, and she leaves Maribel behind who balls up her fists, looking a lot less apprehensive and more properly worked up.</div><div><b>Segment Rating: B-</b></div><div><br/></div><div><span>http://i.imgur.com/0Hskf5g.jpg</span>  vs <span>http://i.imgur.com/koWhAJc.jpg</span> </div><div><b>Match 5: Maribel Mercado vs Paige Croft (Group A)</b></div><div>There is a fire burning in Maribel as she opens the match with a big boot, which Paige dodges while on the run in opposite direction. They both bounce off the ropes, coming in to clash in the middle again, Maribel goes for the clothesline, but Paige hits her feet first with a beautiful drop kick. </div><div><br/></div><div>The kick in the chest serves as a reality check for Maribel who as she stumbles to her feet try to make distance, but Paige is all over her with stiff kicks until Maribel takes refuge outside the ring, but soon finds she's not safe there either as Paige comes flying from the apron elbow first. Maribel is reeling, but not helpless and for a while she's doing some kind of fighting retreat where she takes a lot of damage being thrown around by Paige, but she gets in the occasional upper cut buying her some time, eventually allowing her to roll back into the ring as referee Erin Lawrence had started counting them out.</div><div><br/></div><div>Following someone in or out of the ring is always a dangerous prospect, and when Paige slides in after Maribel, it is possible she underestimates how much fight is left in Maribel, because she's immediately set upon by Maribel who boots her to the mat, then lifts her up in a fireman's carry. Paige squirms and tries to get free, but Maribel brings her tag team partner down hard on her knee for the gutbuster, which seem to hit bad, as Paige cries out in agony as she ends up writhing on the mat in pain.</div><div><br/></div><div>Referee Erin Lawrence immediately goes between her and Maribel, checking up on Paige if she's able to continue or not. A medic team come running in, surrounding Paige in the ring, but after a minute or so of uncertainty, Paige waves them away and hobbles to her feet, a hand instinctively goes to her hurting back, but steeling herself she make a cocky gesture at Maribel with both hands, 'come at me'.</div><div><br/></div><div>Maribel looks downright arrogant now seeing that her opponent is hurt. She moves in to immobilize Paige with a kick to the gut, but Paige uses that to deliver her own enziguiri which drops Maribel to the mat, and Paige is on her immediately. She locks in a figure four, and after some struggle from Maribel transitions into her patented Memphis Deathlock. Maribel struggles in agony, frustration overflowing at the opportunity that has slipped out of her hands, and eventually she taps. When she realize she has won, Paige just drops off Maribel and lies on the mat. </div><div><b>Paige Croft win in 10:38 by submission </b></div><div><b>Match Rating: B (79)</b></div><div><br/></div><div>As soon as the bell rings, the team of medics come rushing back in, carefully putting Paige on a stretcher before carrying her out to an applause that seems to be just as much appreciation for a very good match as much as concern for a worker it is unclear how badly injured she is.</div><div><br/></div><div><span>http://i.imgur.com/2QUyjcm.jpg</span> <span>http://i.imgur.com/LqQJWHu.jpg</span> </div><div>Meanwhile, backstage in a locker room, Selina Svelte and Talia Quinzel are getting ready for their upcoming match. </div><div><br/></div><div>Selina looks to Talia. Higa tags in, display some gorgeous moves, but comes too close to the Uprising corner of the ring where Selina runs interference just long enough for Higa to be slammed into the corner post by Quinzel, who make the process short, delivering the terribying Spinal Trauma to Higa for the 1-2-3.</div><div><b>Talia Quinzel win in 11:02 by pinfall </b></div><div><b>Match Rating: B-</b></div><div><br/></div><div>

It's about a second in when Perez delivers the first hurricanrana of the match and a few seconds later she's diving at Laura from the top rope only to be knocked out of the air with a Flame Fire Kick. Perez rolls out of the ring only to stand face to face with Killer Kass. Her hesitation is enough to allow Laura to deliver a sliding kick to Teresa's back sending her tumbling into the arms of Kass who refrains from outright attacking, but shoves her back to Laura who fisherman suplex Teresa back first into the ring apron.</div><div><br/></div><div>Laura rolls into the ring, satisfied to wait for Teresa to be counted out, but she stirs on 7, starts getting to her feet on 8 and tumbles into the ring on 9. Laura goes for a german suplex, but Teresa in some form of self-preservation pushes Laura and herself around, which makes Dale Kenney be in the way when Laura sends Teresa flying, knocking out the fragile referee. Immediately, Kass is in the ring, and Capitano on the apron. Laura casually watches as Kass proceeds to slam Teresa's slender body into the mat over and over again before rolling out of the ring again well in time before Dale Kenney stirs, only to see Laura pin Teresa. Weakly, he counts to three, giving Laura the win.</div><div><b>Laura Flame win in 10:20 by pinfall</b></div><div><b>Match Rating: C+</b></div><div><br/></div><div>Killer Kass stays in the ring while Capitano escorts Laura out. Kass hits hard, but most attacks either miss entirely or Jillian effectively soak up the attacks. In between being pushed around the ring, everything is a weapon to Jillian. Kass is tripped into the ropes where Jillian has time to make a ton of damage, keeping Kass off-balance. As Kass mood sours, her actions become more and more fueled by rage, which makes her even more vulnerable to Jillian's way of wrestling. She's driven head first into a turn buckle, and Jillian starts working Kass' knee that was hurt just two days ago. </div><div><br/></div><div>Kass starts to slow down, but she's still dangerous which Jillian gets to experience being slammed into the mat hard, but she shows her resilience and focus as she goes right back to working that knee of Kass. Not even getting up from the floor she trips Kass right into a figure four, putting all the pressure on Kass' hurt knee. Kass is in obvious pain, but start clawing her way toward the ropes. She's so winded though from chasing Jillian Jarvis around that she only gets a couple of feet before she exhaustedly falls flat on her chest and taps out.</div><div><b>Jillian Jarvis win in 15:57 by submission</b></div><div><b>Match Rating: C</b></div><div><br/></div><div><span>http://i.imgur.com/HVIJsmp.jpg</span> </div><div>As Kass slowly gets to her feet, there is a long tense stare down between the two, Kass looking like she wants to rip the head off Jarvis, but she is the first to break the stare down, instead choosing to roll out of the ring, limping out while Jarvis turn to stare down the crowd instead, raising her hands in triumph.</div><div><b>Segment Rating: B+</b></div><div><br/></div><div><b>Event Rating: B- (72)</b></div><div><b>Next Show:</b> Army of One, The Friedman Building</div><div><br/></div><div><hr/></div><div>Capitano and Paige Croft remain undefeated in Group A, Foxxy LaRue now stands alone on 10 points in group B. Maribel looks distraught, on the verge of tears where she's standing next to the stretcher with Paige Croft on it.</p><p> </p><p> Paige groans in pain, but forces a smile none the less. "Not your fault. I kicked and squirmed a little more than when we practiced to make it look more real and I can only blame myself for not sticking to the script. Sarah shakes his hand and leaves, giving Maribel a pat on the shoulder on her way out. <p>Aw, man, that's rough - Paige Croft is one of my favorite workers, and I'll bet she's even more valuable in a pop = performance fed, because she can go in the ring.</p><p> </p><p>

Let's see if I can at least tie our lupine prediction champion this time...</p><p> </p><p>

Card for Army of One week 4, July 2018, The Friedman Building (Mid South)</p><p> </p><p>

Dark Match 1: Alexis Lee vs Thea Davis vs <strong>Charity Sweet</strong> vs Darkness Cat 4-way match</p><p>

<em>Charity won her last dark match - I think she's building momentum.</em></p><p>

Dark Match 2: <strong>Pamela Rojo & Teresa Perez</strong> vs Anderson & Snyder</p><p>

Teresa and her new tag team partner gets a good test against a well drilled veteran team.</p><p>

<em>I think they pass the test.</em></p><p> </p><p>

Match 1: <strong>Brooke Tyler</strong> vs Maribel Mercado (Group A)</p><p>

Two up and coming heels jockey for position.</p><p>

<em>Heel vs. heel opening match - bold choice, but with two very capable workers, a justifiable choice to have made!</em></p><p> </p><p>

Match 2: <strong>Chitose Ariwara</strong> vs Maria Guest (Group A)</p><p>

Chitose is where Maria would like to be, which makes her an ideal opponent to knock off for someone looking to move up.</p><p>

<em>It would be ideal for Maria, but I don't think it's happening quite yet.</em></p><p> </p><p>

Match 3: <strong>Higa</strong> vs Juana Huracán (Group A)</p><p>

Two days ago tag team partners, even though neither can win the tournament there are unspoken stakes involved.</p><p>

<em>I think it's getting to be sink or swim time for Higa. If she can't win this one, I think she's on her way out.</em></p><p> </p><p>

Match 4: <strong>Foxxy LaRue & Christy Higgins</strong> vs The Untouchables</p><p>

If Teresa Perez can find a new tag team partner, Christy will not be worse.</p><p>

<em>It's hard to bet against Foxxy.</em></p><p> </p><p>

Match 5: Paige Croft vs <strong>Capitano</strong></p><p>

Well, it's left on the card, but this is cancelled, right?</p><p> </p><p>

Bonus Questions: </p><p>

- Spoiler: Match 5 will not actually take place, but what will the official result be? (There is precedent for this situation from Higa vs Maribel Mercado where Higa was a no-show giving Maribel the 2 points)</p><p>

<em>I think it would count as a </em><em><strong>forfeit</strong></em><em>, no?</em></p><p> </p><p>

- What's the best match of the night?</p><p>

<strong>Foxxy LaRue & Christy Higgins vs The Untouchables</strong></p><p>

<em>Tag team matches can really score well if you've got a team with the tag team experience boost to the match ratings, plus you've got some really over workers in that one.</em></p><p> </p><p>

Tie Breaker: What's the attendance? Last time in the Friedman Building, 7156 were in attendance. Hint: It's higher this time.</p><p>

<em>Nice little bump -</em> <strong>7425</strong><em>, I think.</em></p>

Ah, by the skin of my teeth. I was genuinely surprised by some of the results, but that's a good thing. :)

My pick for the injured wrestler was more out of hope that it wouldn't be anyone key, but there goes that. Hopefully Paige won't be out for too long, especially with her being a key cog in the major storylines.

Dark Match 1: Alexis Lee vs Thea Davis vs Charity Sweet vs Darkness Cat 4-way match

Hmmm, Charity could lose this without suffering too much, but it's hard to pick against her at this point.

Dark Match 2: Pamela Rojo & Teresa Perez vs Anderson & Snyder

All red everything! :D

Match 1: Brooke Tyler vs Maribel Mercado (Group A)

Well, either Brooke is going somewhere or she's not. I think this will be a good indication.

Match 2: Chitose Ariwara vs Maria Guest (Group A)

Maria's still learning, in my opinion, so Ariwara and her great gimmick go over.

Match 3: Higa vs Juana Huracán (Group A)

Just seems like Higa can bottom out before switching gimmicks.

Match 4: Foxxy LaRue & Christy Higgins vs The Untouchables

Looks like a set up to get the Untouchables another nice win without hurting Foxxy too much by having Christy take the fall.

Match 5: Paige Croft vs Capitano

Hmm, so this is for all the marbles in Group A? I have to think this wasn't the original plan, but I'll go with Capitano against Foxxy for the tournament final.

Bonus Questions:

- Spoiler: Match 5 will not actually take place, but what will the official result be? Ah, let's go something different and a DQ finish with Capitano getting jumped by someone.

- What's the best match of the night? I'll be different and say Ariwara vs Guest.

Tie Breaker: What's the attendance? Eh, a round number at 7,300.

My guest today is a special one. In terms of QAW gold, they don't come much more decorated than this true star - one time Shockwave champion, <em>four </em>time World Champion, more than anyone else. Few would argue with me if I said she was the greatest wrestler in QAW of all time. Welcome to the podcast, Foxxy LaRue!</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Foxxy LaRue:</strong> Haha, that's quite an introduction. I should start using that for my entrances.</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Billy:</strong> Nothing but the truth though. Who else would be the greatest in QAW history?</p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><span>http://i.imgur.com/BwKOOLU.jpg</span></div><p></p><p></p><p> <strong>Foxxy:</strong>Well, I think there are a few legit names to choose from, but Danielle Sweetheart would be my call. You can't always count titles and say wrestler A had more titles than wrestler B, therefore she's obviously better or more important. Danielle left a legacy that it has fallen upon me - and others - to honor and preserve. </p><p> </p><p> <strong>Billy: </strong>Danielle even left a stable named after her in the American Sweethearts dedicated pretty much to keep QAW honest, to preserve QAW as a place for women wrestlers</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Foxxy:</strong> I've learnt that I don't do well in organizations. It's too easy to get lost in the pathos of someone else and lose track of your own moral compass. </p><p> </p><p> <strong>Billy:</strong> Is that what led you to the Bad Girls Club?</p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><span>http://i.imgur.com/ZGbvgUH.jpg</span> </div><p></p><p></p><p> <strong>Foxxy:</strong> I think so. I think I was a little lost having suffered a series of setbacks, and I started talking to Capitano. She talks to you like she's your friend. Her words brought me hope and consolation, but laced with poison. She convinced me that my morality was not what made me a good person, that, that it was a construct designed to hold me back, and if I just let it go, I could achieve anything.</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Billy:</strong> That sounds a bit likelike a dark cult.</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Foxxy:</strong> It really is. I'm not proud of my time with the Bad Girls Club, and I'm glad I had my eyes opened before it was too late.</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Billy:</strong> What made you...see the error of your ways, I guess?</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Foxxy: </strong>It came gradually. I became world champion again with Capitano's help, but somehow it didn't feel the same. In that state of mind you tell yourself that the hate you get from the crowd is just confirmation that you are special, that you have broken through the illusion of order that hold the little guy down. The ones at the top lie cheat and steal to get where they are, and down on the ground we toil following the rules, honest and loyal, thankless. To get to the top I had to do things their way. I thought I was so smart.</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Billy: </strong>Sorry for saying it, but the way you say it make sense to me. If I had heard it framed like that, I wouldn't have blamed you.</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Foxxy:</strong> Hah. I'm just quoting Capitano, you know. I don't think the world works quite like that. Sure, a lot of people at the bottom work hard in thankless jobs. But morality is not stupidity. It is what make us civilized human beings. Making right to each other. I did wrong to a lot of people during that time. I can't do those things undone, but I don't shirk my debts. I pay them off every day. There are a lot of hard working wrestlers who won't take shortcuts like I did, won't cheat like I did. I want to make sure the playing field is as level as can be for them.</p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><span>http://i.imgur.com/DFjGyTB.jpg</span> <span>http://i.imgur.com/eV5dEGc.jpg</span> </div><p></p><p></p><p> <strong>Billy:</strong> That's a far cry from the Foxxy of old. Speaking of loyalty to QAW and of Danielle Sweetheart that we talked about earlier. Any thoughts of following in her footsteps to USPW or NOTPBW if an offer came up? You would not be the first headline name to take that step. Besides Danielle, we've seen Lauren Easter and Melody pass by...</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Foxxy: </strong>I feel sorry for Danielle. She got her big shot, and almost immediately got that terrible spinal injury. That's what, a year ago now? Terrible. As for me... QAW is very important to me, but I've got to look out for my family and my future. The career of a wrestler does not last forever, and a shot at big money would be difficult to say no to. But my heart is here, always.</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Billy:</strong> Rumour has it Danielle is close to a return from that injury. A few weeks away, according to my sources.</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Foxxy:</strong> Good. So, sources, huh? Spy stuff. What does your sources say about the QAW locker room then?</p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><span>http://i.imgur.com/JDg7ZNg.jpg</span> <span>http://i.imgur.com/aI0ZR2b.jpg</span> <span>http://i.imgur.com/omWPFiT.jpg</span> <span>http://i.imgur.com/tjDJHC2.jpg</span> </div><p></p><p></p><p> <strong>Billy:</strong> Well...I'm not sure I should talk about that here, this is about you after all. You've paired up this week with Christy Higgins in a tag team effort, previously you have partnered with Etsuko Arihyoshi. Has it been difficult to find a tag team partner since you left the Bad Girls? You and Laura Flame made quite a successful team even if you didn't win any titles. Do you figure your partnership with Christy might last?</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Foxxy:</strong> Let me tread carefully here. I'm not quite sure what's going on between Christy and Teresa Perez, and I don't want to insert myself between the two while they resolve their issues. That said, Christy was in need of a partner and I'm only happy to help her out. Christy is one of those I talked about that does not take short cuts to get where she wants to get. If the partnership is permanent? Who knows. Let's take one thing at a time.</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Billy: </strong>Alright. I have a few questions I ask all my guests here on the Superstar Highlight.</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Foxxy:</strong> Shoot.</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Billy:</strong> Best match in your career?</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Foxxy:</strong> You have to come bringing back those bittersweet memories eh? Me and Capitano met the Wrecking Krew at an Army of One early this year. It was an amazing match. I get shivers thinking about it.</p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><span>http://i.imgur.com/W9znUzz.jpg</span> <span>http://i.imgur.com/syXKQSr.jpg</span> </div><p></p><p></p><p> <strong>Billy:</strong> Well, same here. I think if we make a list of the best matches in QAW history, it has to be right up there. Let's say also for the listeners benefit, the Wrecking Krew consisted of Zoe Ammis and Alina America, neither of which are in QAW anymore.</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Foxxy:</strong> Sadly. That discussion we started out with about the greatest wrestlers in QAW history? Even if the titles don't stack up, I think you have to include Zoe Ammis in that discussion. So many in QAW have had the best match of their career against her.</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Billy:</strong> Quite a few have had it against Foxxy LaRue too.</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Foxxy:</strong> I hope that's true. It would be a legacy I would be proud to leave behind.</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Billy:</strong> Ok, next question. Who are your favorite workers to wrestle against?</p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><span>http://i.imgur.com/Heo5HkZ.jpg</span> <span>http://i.imgur.com/0Hskf5g.jpg</span> </div><p></p><p></p><p> <strong>Foxxy:</strong> I don't want to sound like a whiner saying I miss Danielle Sweetheart and Lauren Easter but they were great to work with. Of the current crop, Chitose Ariwara is a joy to wrestle with. </p><p> </p><p> <strong>Billy:</strong> I have heard others say that, but I'm searching through my cheat sheet, and I don't see any matches between you and Chitose?</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Foxxy:</strong> That's half true. We have met a few times, but it's never been a true one on one. We've been in the ring together in a battle royale, and I think we've been in a fatal 4-way or two as well.</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Billy:</strong> That's why they didn't show up. Do you have any dream matches left? </p><p> </p><p> <strong>Foxxy:</strong> Well, it would be fun to face Chitose in a proper one on one. Otherwise I really have fought most everyone in QAW by now. I guess I was kind of screwed out of a proper rematch when I lost the World title to Paige Croft. The powers that be decided to turn that into a fatal 4-way which granted was not to Paige's advantage, but neither was it to mine. Getting a fair shake in QAW right now is not the easiest, but you just have to work that much harder. </p><p> </p><p> <strong>Billy:</strong> You're both very much in the running for a Contender's Crown final. Both Chitose Ariwara and Paige Croft looks like possible opponents assuming you reach the final there?</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Foxxy:</strong> Let's hope for that. I don't think I could take another grudge match against Capitano. </p><p> </p><p> <strong>Billy:</strong> Yeah, that's also a very viable scenario...</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Foxxy:</strong> Well, I guess we have jinxed it now. Never assume success. I might as well pen in a night out with the girls next Friday because there's no way I'm wrestling a final now.</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Billy: </strong>I had no idea you were superstitious. </p><p> </p><p> <strong>Foxxy:</strong> *laughs* Aren't all wrestlers?</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Billy: </strong>I guess so... Foxxy, it has been an absolute pleasure to have you on the show. I wish we could go on for much much longer, but time's up for this time. </p><p> </p><p> <strong>Foxxy: </strong>Pleasure's mine, Billy. I want to extend thanks for your coverage of QAW. It can be difficult sometimes for women in sports in general to get publicity and wrestling is not very different. You cover both the good and the bad, and that's the way it should be. I want you to know we appreciate it.</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Billy:</strong> Well, I'm a little flustered now. You are very welcome. The Wrestling Gazetteer wouldn't cover QAW the way we do if we didn't think you presented an outstanding product.</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Foxxy:</strong> And we are just happy that you recognize that. </p><p> </p><p> <strong>Billy:</strong> With that, we're signing out. Next time on Superstar Highlights...well actually let's keep it a secret for now, but I'll give one clue: We have talked about her during this show... Until then, see ya ringside!</p><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="42699" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div>OOC: Thanks to MrWolf101 for picking Foxxy LaRue for this highlight. It was one of those wrestlers that I had a pretty good idea of their character beforehand, but the challenge was to present that in a way that does not sound too dorky. Articulating the way someone turns heel and then back to babyface again in a way that seems *somewhat* real was challenging.<p> </p></div></blockquote>

<p>I think it's great stuff, honestly. For me, writing heels comes naturally. If I was in the business, I'd be right with Jericho, fighting against ever turning face. It's fun and freeing to let the things you choose not to do out to run wild. Plus, heels are often the plot instigators - the villain acts, and the hero reacts.</p><p> </p><p>

Which is all the more reason to write faces well. In many ways, I think the fiction we create as a society helps not only define, but to shape our values. We define what heroism means, whether you're writing a wrestling show or a TEW diary. We can fight not only the narrative that only those who take advantage of others can succeed, but we show a model of what success without exploitation looks like. We can say there are values besides self-interest that are worth fighting for. It's actually part of why I have less fond memories of the Attitude Era than many - the only character who seemed committed to doing the right thing was Mick Foley. He was my favorite worker then, and I retain great fondness for that run.</p><p> </p><p>

It is critical that good not look stupid, like Surfer Sting getting suckered into trusting Flair over and over and never learning. It is critical good does not seem soft, because there are values, and people, worth fighting for. It's important to state those values time to time, but a hero doesn't need to preach if they live those values.</p><p> </p><p>

I didn't think Foxxy's discussion of her heel turn and subsequent face turn sounded corny. I think you showed why evil is appealing - but also what price you pay for taking that path. I think you explained why it's worth the extra effort to follow the path of good, and the rewards that come with that extra effort. We need smart, articulate faces - not just here, but in all fiction and in real life. I think you accomplished just that.</p>

<p>Thank you. It's the kind of things I think about when I watch wrestling. <img alt=":)" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/smile.png.142cfa0a1cd2925c0463c1d00f499df2.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p>

I get really annoyed when highly paid writers (hello WWE) can't even keep track of the basic motivations and morality of their characters. I'm no professional writer, and even I know when something feels wrong for one of my characters.</p>

It is one of those attempts by Thea Davis, clotheslining Alexis over the top rope, then following her to the outside to continue the attack. At the same time, Darkness Cat goes for the top turnbuckle, preparing to take a dive toward Charity, but Charity is quickly up on the second turnbuckle, lifting up Darkness Cat for the package power bomb. Charity covers her for the pin, and neither Thea nor Alexis on the outside can extricate themselves from each other to stop the count. </div><div><b>Charity Sweet wins by pinfall in 14:29</b></div><div><b>Match Rating: C+</b></div><div><br/></div><div><span>http://i.imgur.com/9pIGoQA.jpg</span> <span>http://i.imgur.com/tjDJHC2.jpg</span> </div><div><span>Backstage, preparations are still underway for the main show. In gorilla position, Pamela Rojo and Teresa Perez are waiting for their cue. Pamela looks at Teresa with a searching look. "What brought this on? I thought Christy was your partner?"</span></div><div><br/></div><div>Teresa sighs. "I don't know. Maybe we've been together for too long. Ever since Talia and Claire took out their aggressions on Christy, she hasn't been herself. She used to be so cheerful, now it's like it's Christy against the whole world. Like she has to prove she belongs."</div><div><br/></div><div>Pamela cocks her head a little. "Maybe she just need a little time. I don't think a former tag team champion should have to second guess herself like that."</div><div><br/></div><div>Teresa nods. "You tell me. I'm just worried she'll do something stupid. Anyway, thanks for teaming up with me. As much as I want this spat to be over, I can't afford to wait on Christy."</div><div><br/></div><div>"Hey, a two-time tag team champion and a three-time tag team champion, both looking for a partner. A pivotal opportunity appears where Teresa manages to knock Ava Anderson off the ring apron, and for a moment she's one on one with Lily Snyder, and all she has to do is get past her opponent and tag in Pamela Rojo to turn the match around, but in a moment of miscommunication, Rojo leaves her position to take a run at Anderson, leaving Teresa deserted. One patented Rock and Roll later from Snyder, and referee Erin Lawrence applies the three-count.</div><div><b>Snyder wins by pinfall in 12:05</b></div><div><b>Match Rating: C+</b></div><div><br/></div><div><span>http://i.imgur.com/2sYuUTT.jpg</span> <span>http://i.imgur.com/ZGbvgUH.jpg</span> </div><div>Dharma Gregg is in the ring, smartly dress in a burgundy colored power suit and dangerously high heels. Mercado has to find ways to escape Tyler's clutches, and she's not terribly shy about using illegal means like raking Brooke's eyes to create some space for herself. She gets her comeuppance in the end as it is a chair shot behind the back of a distracted referee that knocks her out cold, making it a trivial task for Brooke to shove her into the ring for the 1-2-3.</div><div><b>Brooke Tyler win by pinfall in 15:37</b></div><div><b>Match Rating: C-</b></div><div><br/></div><div><span>http://i.imgur.com/vrW0gLX.jpg</span> <span>http://i.imgur.com/JDg7ZNg.jpg</span> </div><div>Backstage, Foxxy LaRue and Christy Higgins is handed a microphone by an anonymous interviewer who just start the segment with the question "you soon have a match against the Untouchables. "It's going to be a pleasure to give Talia and Claire what they deserve, now that I have a partner that doesn't abandon me when it matters. They'll be so sorry..." Christy's tone goes from angry to near-manic before Foxxy puts a hand on her shoulder and reaches for the microphone. </div><div><br/></div><div>"Now, now. Don't lose your focus. Get your revenge by being the better wrestler. When we beat the Untouchables, there is no ignoring us in the discussion of who are the top contenders the next time the tag team straps are put on the line."</div><div><br/></div><div>Christy nods at what Foxxy says. "You're right. I'll show Talia and everyone else that has underestimated me that all they're doing is showing me another hurdle I need to overcome, just like every other one before. Teresa will see what she's missing." Again, she's balling up her fists in so much pent up anger.</div><div><br/></div><div>Figuring that's the best she'll get out of Christy, Foxxy shrugs and turns to the camera. Demeanors change instantly, and Chitose with her lucha inspired high flying style instantly makes use of the ropes to gain speed, Maria tries to hit her with lariats but Chitose slips under each time, until she goes for the hurricanrana, but this time Maria is prepared and goes for a dropkick of her own. It's not a knockout kick, but it takes the air out of Chitose, giving Maria the opportunity to go top turnbuckle. Before she's ready though, Chitose leaps up, locking her feet around Maria's head for a beautiful frankensteiner. The match goes back and forth, both wrestlers getting their time to shine, but Chitose gets to her finisher, the Victory roll and Maria has nothing letft in the tank and does not get up as the referee counts to three.</span></div><div><b><span>Chitose Ariwara wins by pinfall in 10:23</span></b></div><div><b>Match Rating: C-</b></div><div><br/></div><div><span>http://i.imgur.com/ZGbvgUH.jpg</span> <span>http://i.imgur.com/koWhAJc.jpg</span> </div><div>Backstage we see Maribel Mercado and Capitano talking. The microphone is muted so we can't hear what they're talking about, but the conversation is quite animated with a lot of hand waving and gesturing. Eventually they start walking into what appears to be the arena loading bay, still talking. We see how Maribel slip out a sap, and while Capitano is still talking, unaware that Maribel has slipped back slightly, she's hit in the head from above. As soon as Capitano collapses, a number of men in suits and sunglasses appear and pick up the leader of the Bad Girls Club. She's unceremoniously tossed into the back of a white van, which Maribel wave's off as it drives away. The last shot we see is Maribel entering Dharma Gregg's office and closing the door behind her.</div><div><b>Segment Rating: B</b></div><div><br/></div><div><span>http://i.imgur.com/xYuulxj.jpg</span>  vs <span>http://i.imgur.com/TsoCedO.jpg</span> </div><div><b>Match 3: Higa vs Juana Huracán (Group A)</b></div><div>While the scenes played out backstage, Higa and Juana Huracán has entered the ring. Foxxy fights back well as one would expect from the former world champ, but Talia simply lifts her up and slams her into the mat, knocking the air out her lungs. She goes for a fisherman driver, but Foxxy manages to slip out of the hold, countering into a devastating double knee backbreaker. When she goes for the pin, Claire breaks it up before being sent back outside the ring by the referee. </div><div><br/></div><div>Having been saved by her partner, Talia starts looking to tag out which Foxxy tries to prevent, but with referee Erin Lawrence still distracted by Claire, Talia takes the opportunity to land a wicked low blow that sends Foxxy crumpling in the middle of the ring, giving Talia plenty of time to tag in her partner.</div><div><br/></div><div>Claire takes the simple approach seeing a weakened opponent, continuing to beat up Foxxy with kicks, uppercuts and elbows, only going for any kind of hold when Foxxy attempts to crawl to her own ring corner to tag in Christy. But even in a precarious situation like this, having wrestled on the highest level Foxxy is used to work her way out of a tough situation, so when Claire give her a little extra time as the brawler lines up an extra powerful clothesline, Foxxy musters her last reserves for a beautiful drop kick that sends Claire Winters reeling, giving Foxxy just enough time to tag in Christy who takes aim at Claire and sends her flying again with a hurricanrana, then a drop kick and an enziguiri.</div><div><br/></div><div>Christy goes for the top turnbuckle to deliver the big finisher, Claire is stumbling around the ring, still disoriented from the eniguiri. It's either luck or some deep rooted ring awareness, but she gets close to her own ring corner when Christy takes flight, delivering a jaw dropping drop kick, sending Claire into the ropes before collapsing, but not before Talia has tagged herself in, without Christy noticing. </div><div><br/></div><div>Seeing what's about to happen, Teresa Perez jump out of her chair to warn Christy, but it has the exact opposite effect on Christy who gets up to the ropes and start shouting at Teresa. </div><div><br/></div><div>"What is it? Can't you stand me having success without you? Talia and Claire realize that any further abuse would leave them outnumbered so they wisely celebrate their victory on their way out of the arena, while Christy slowly gets back to her feet.</div><div><br/></div><div>"You... You could not stand seeing my success, could you? What am I to you, the loveable loser that made you feel good about yourself because you 'took me in'? And now that I touched upon something good, you had to insert yourself into it. Never let Christy fly too close to the sun. I've had *enough* of your false friendship." With that, Christy bounces off the far ropes and suicide dives at Teresa who seems shell shocked by the outburst enough that she does not move when Christy comes flying. As they crash into the ground, they fight back and forth for a while with Christy looking strong, but even though she seems fueled by her emotions, Christy has just gone a grueling match, and the bruises take their toll as she fades after an initial burst of energy. It all ends with Teresa delivering a DDT, sending Christy crashing into the arena floor. Seeing that there is no fight left in Christy, Teresa give her a sad look before walking up the ramp to the exit. </div><div><b>Segment Rating: B-</b><p>

The sun is just below the horizon, coloring the sky flaming red. The back doors open, and two men unceremoniously push out Capitano who lands on the ground with a thud. As the van speeds away, Capitano gets to her feet, dusting herself off, still in full wrestling gear. Seeing a pair of headlights in the distance, she quickly adjusts her hair, push up her breasts and hold out her thumb. I've tried to set up barebone documents for the next upcoming shows making it at least possible to write and finish them while I'm away, but don't expect them to be timely.</p>

<p>Really enjoyed Foxxy's spotlight. Welcome, Christy Higgins.</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Christy:</strong> Thanks, it's a pleasure to be here.</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Billy:</strong> To be entirely fair, the most common question wasn't very nice.</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Christy:</strong> I can take it. Lay it on me.</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Billy:</strong> "What's wrong with her?"</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Christy: </strong>Hah. Well, if you really want to dissect it, I guess you could say I have trust issues after having been stabbed in the back by people I thought were my friends. </p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><span>http://i.imgur.com/LqQJWHu.jpg</span> <span>http://i.imgur.com/vzm4Q0V.jpg</span> </div><p></p><p></p><p> <strong>Billy:</strong> It must have been heartbreaking the way Talia Quinzel and Claire Winters put the blame for their shortcomings on you.</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Christy:</strong> It taught me that you can't trust anyone, not even your friends. If you want to get somewhere it's by your own power. But it still didn't prepare me for my best friend taking our friendship so lightly. It's the betrayal that hurts the most.</p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><span>http://i.imgur.com/tjDJHC2.jpg</span> </div><p></p><p></p><p> <strong>Billy:</strong> But did she really? I mean, did Teresa Perez actually betray you? </p><p> </p><p> <strong>Christy:</strong> *scoffs* It's sure what it looked like from my perspective. It doesn't matter now anyway. There's no going back. We burnt that bridge.</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Billy:</strong> That makes me a bit sad. The Bubblegum Brawlers were a great tag team. </p><p> </p><p> <strong>Christy:</strong> If you keep bringing up Teresa, you might get me to walk out of here. I really don't like to be reminded of the whole mess.</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Billy:</strong> I'll try to stop myself. Let me just throw all the questions I had prepared in the bin... </p><p> </p><p> <strong>Christy:</strong> Are you freaking serious? You ask me to come here, and all you've got prepared are questions about Teresa Perez? </p><p> </p><p> <strong>Billy: </strong>Ah, no, *I* have plenty of questions, but almost every submitted question from fans of the podcast was about your relationship to Perez. Sorry.</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Christy:</strong> *sigh* </p><p> </p><p> <strong>Billy:</strong> The Contender's Crown tournament is coming to its end, and despite some terrific efforts, you are in no position to advance to the final. How do you feel about your showing, overall?</p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><span>http://i.imgur.com/vrW0gLX.jpg</span> </div><p></p><p></p><p> <strong>Christy:</strong> Obviously it hasn't helped to be pestered by Talia and Claire, but I have poured my heart out in the ring. It is disappointing any time it's not enough. Am I reinforcing the image of myself as a loser if I point out the match against Foxxy LaRue as a performance I'm really proud of?</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Billy:</strong> I don't think so. Pushing the face of the company that far in a match - despite interference from Quinzel is quite a feat. One of the best matches so far in the tournament, in my opinion. I think there are murmurs among the die hards that you are one of the most underrated wrestlers in QAW, and that you'd be far more successful if the powers that be didn't hold you back. Comments?</p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><span>http://i.imgur.com/0Hskf5g.jpg</span> <span>http://i.imgur.com/UQQevgf.jpg</span> </div><p></p><p></p><p> <strong>Christy: </strong>I appreciate the sentiment, it's really motivating to know that are those that do notice the hard work, but at the end of the day it's results that matters, and I realize that there is a Mount Everest's worth of talent towering up before me as I scale the QAW rankings. I don't have the innate talent of someone like Paige Croft, and I wasn't born with the genetic gold ticket like Talia Quinzel or Brooke Tyler. All I have is determination and practice, practice, practice. </p><p> </p><p> <strong>Billy:</strong> Let me ask some of the stock question I like to ask every guest I have on the show. What is the best match you've been in? </p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><span>http://i.imgur.com/eV5dEGc.jpg</span><span>http://i.imgur.com/oz8ZpSz.jpg</span> </div><p></p><p></p><p> <strong>Christy:</strong> One on one, it was that match against Foxxy LaRue, but most memorable matches I've gone have been tag team matches. My favorite of those... We - me and Teresa - faced Melody and Purple Viper in May, I think for the top contender spot. It was really quite good. I hate to admit it, but Melody was a terrible loss for QAW. </p><p> </p><p> <strong>Billy:</strong> You are too humble. I remember you main evented with that match, and it was the finale of one of the best shows QAW has put up all year.</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Christy:</strong> Aw, that's too flattering. I know you root for the morally corrupt, I just had no idea you would stoop so low to see them win.</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Grace:</strong> Oh just shut it. We all know you have your own favorites.</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Farrah, in an increasingly higher tone of voice:</strong> I don’t provide weaponry to my favorites!</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Grace:</strong> Only because you lack everything resembling guts.</p><p> </p><p> Meanwhile, Laura has worked over Pamela thoroughly with the kendo stick, and eventually throws a defenseless Pamela back into the ring just in time for the referee to slowly stir to life, just in time to count 1-2-3 as Flame pins Rojo. </p><p> <strong>Laura Flame wins by pinfall in 10:28</strong></p><p><strong> Match Rating: C</strong></p><p><strong> </strong></p><p> <span>http://i.imgur.com/xYuulxj.jpg</span> vs <span>http://i.imgur.com/UsrKpsP.jpg</span> </p><p> <strong>Dark Match 2: Higa vs Maria Guest (Group A)</strong></p><p> Higa isn’t prone to big gestures, so a quick fistbump before the match starts is about as much sign of mutual respect Maria Guest could have hoped for. When the bell rings, Guest is the one looking most willing to engage, while Higa takes a slightly heelish stance, letting Maria provide the flair while Higa stalls, rather wrestling for position and to tire out her opponent than for the big hits. However, as the match goes, Higa turns up the pace and the pressure until Guest is thoroughly against the ropes. The match ends with another new variation on the Higa Green Driver, this time from the second turn buckle.</p><p> <strong>Higa wins by pinfall in 16:09</strong></p><p><strong> Match Rating: C</strong></p><p><strong> </strong></p><p> <span>http://i.imgur.com/xYuulxj.jpg</span>  <span>http://i.imgur.com/UsrKpsP.jpg</span> </p><p> Having had her hand raised in victory, Higa looks back to Maria Guest who is nursing her neck and generally looking devastated. If there were any question about the hierarchy between the two before, it has been laid to rest, and not in the way Guest had anticipated. Higa sees the disappointment in Guest’s expression, her own a serene calm after the initial burst of joy at getting the win. </p><p> After what seems like an eternity, Higa seems to come to a decision and approaches Maria, offering a handshake to the senior member of American Sweethearts. </p><p> Maria looks up at her, at Higa’s hand. Her hesitation makes it clear that the symbolism isn’t lost on her, but eventually their hands meet. It’s not a happy Maria Guest shaking Higa’s hand, but there is reluctant respect as she raises Higas hand in the air before rolling out of thering to let Higa soak up the fan reaction, however moderate. </p><p> <strong>Segment Rating: D-</strong></p><p> </p><p> <span>http://i.imgur.com/TsoCedO.jpg</span>  vs <span>http://i.imgur.com/koWhAJc.jpg</span> </p><p> <strong>Dark Match 3: Juana Huracán vs Maribel Mercado (Group A)</strong></p><p> Maribel taunts Huracán’s MMA affectations, performing grotesque parodies of many of Juana’s trademark moves. The taunting seems to really get to Huracán who mistimes a couple of finishers, making it a much closer match than it needed to be. In the end though, the Mexican standoff (they’re both Mexican wrestlers fighting each other using the same moveset - get it?) comes to an end on the one combo Maribel fails to replicate. While she follows Juana faithfully move by move, the final enziguiri from Mercado is delivered without power, while Juana hits her opponent mid air with possibly the stiffest kick of the night.</p><p> <strong>Juana Huracán wins by pinfall in 12:24</strong></p><p><strong> Match Rating: C+</strong></p><p> </p><p> <span>http://i.imgur.com/SrJMR1G.jpg</span> </p><p> Having gotten some good wrestling already during the pre-show, the crowd pops hard as familiar music hits, and Killer Kass appears, momentarily striking a pose at the top of the ramp with a menacing pose on her face before striding purposefully to the ring. She doesn’t need to say a word - the crowd works itself into a frenzy anticipating what’s to come.</p><p> <strong>Segment Rating: A*</strong></p><p><strong> </strong></p><p> <span>http://i.imgur.com/JDg7ZNg.jpg</span>  vs <span>http://i.imgur.com/SrJMR1G.jpg</span> </p><p> <strong>Match 1: Christy HIggins vs Killer Kass</strong></p><p><strong> </strong>Showing more fear on her way to the ring - still looking paranoid after having been attacked by Quinzel and Winters - once Christy Higgins stand face to face with the most menacing wrestler in the company today, she looks strangely focused. Once the bell rings, her offense is courageous, including some stiff kicks which Kass mostly no sells, but it takes an abrupt end when Kass after a minute or two of Higgins showing off her portfolio of moves simply catches Higgins midair. What was going to be a top rope cross body turns is reversed into a muscle press into a power slam. Kass goes on a tear, throwing Christy around the ring, into the ropes for a clothesline, into the turnbuckles for a crushing spear. Kass goes for the pin, Christy kicks out. Kass suplexes her, goes for the pin, same result. Increasingly frustrated, Kass picks her up for a package piledriver, after which Christy looks dead, but she beats the three count by the slimmest of margins. As Kass decides to take it outside the ring calls from the announce table can be heard for stopping the match as it,s so one sided, but Christy at least is vehemently against it as she shakes her head, despite being stuck in Kass’ firm grip. </p><p> Kass smashes her into the ring apron, into the corner post, suplexes her into the ring stairs. As Christy, less and less coherent just refuses to stay down, Kass face is contorted with anger as she pushes a ring worker out of his chair along the crowd barrier. She picks up the chair, and delivers a solid shot straight into Christy’s face. Everything goes quiet as the realization of what just happened sinks in, and then Erin Lawrence calls for the bell, declaring Christy the winner by disqualification. Realizing what has happened, Kass goes even further into her rage and just destroys Christy, punctuating the rampage by delivering the Kill Switch through the announce table before marching out, threatening to take a swing at any fan who dares to get cocky.</p><p> <strong>Christy Higgins win by DQ in 10:12</strong></p><p><strong> Match Rating: C</strong></p><p><strong> </strong></p><p> <strong>Farrah Hesketh:</strong> Why did she do that? Such meaningless violence.</p><p> <strong>Grace Harper:</strong> Have you never heard of a thing called sending a message? She couldn’t reach the final, so she came out and made a statement instead, and what a statement! Don’t mess with the Killer! Oh what I would pay to see her do that to you instead.</p><p> <strong>Farrah:</strong> Not very nice, Grace.</p><p> <strong>Grace:</strong> Hah! Better, it would be sweet.</p><p> </p><p> <span>http://i.imgur.com/UQQevgf.jpg</span> <span>http://i.imgur.com/ZGbvgUH.jpg</span> </p><p> Backstage, Capitano has cornered Brooke Tyler who does her best to look unimpressed by the Bad Girls Club leader. </p><p> “Look, I know you’ve wanted in to Ronin 3 for a while, but face it, it’s never going to happen. The Bad Girls Club on the other hand, we have no silly rule of “max three members”. Take a nice dive in our match today and you’ll get a premium membership in the Bad Girls Club, VIP treatment, the works. What do you say.”</p><p> </p><p> Brooke looks genuinely tempted by the offer. “Wow, that’s some offer. Some would call me an idiot if I didn’t take that offer, but I have kinda committed to Ronin 3. At least let me think about it for a bit.”</p><p> </p><p> “Don’t take long. Match is up soon.”</p><p> <strong>Segment Rating: B-</strong></p><p> </p><p> <span>http://i.imgur.com/UQQevgf.jpg</span>  vs <span>http://i.imgur.com/ZGbvgUH.jpg</span> </p><p> <strong>Match 2: Brooke Tyler vs Capitano</strong></p><p> As the match starts, Capitano wrestles with the relaxed confidence of someone convinced of their imminent victory. A look that gradually turns into concern and anger as it becomes clear that Tyler is not going to just lie down and die. Instead she wrestles with laser focus, often cutting off Capitano’s escape routes when the Bad Girls club leader decides to high tail it. A moon sault to the outside from the top turnbuckle highlights how much she’s putting into the match, and Capitano is reeling a bit, uncomfortable fighting someone who’s putting everything on the line. As they fight to the outside, Brooke takes the opportunity at a moment when Capitano is stunned by being slammed into the crowd barriers. </p><p> Tyler fishes up a pair of handcuffs from her back pocket. Before Capitano realizes what has happened, her right hand is attached to roughly 100 pounds of metal. Tyler contemplates briefly if she should beat up the restrained opponent, but hearing the referee’s count from the ring, she give Capitano a taunting little wave of her hand before sliding into the ring comfortably before the 10-count. Capitano on the other hand curses, tries to drag the entire metal barrier toward the ring but barely manages to move it before the match is over. </p><p> <strong>Brooke Tyler wins by count out in 18:18</strong></p><p><strong> Match Rating: B-</strong></p><p><strong> </strong></p><p> <span>http://i.imgur.com/vzm4Q0V.jpg</span> <span>http://i.imgur.com/2QUyjcm.jpg</span> <span>http://i.imgur.com/LqQJWHu.jpg</span> </p><p> The Uprising/The Untouchables are getting prepared for match in one of the arena's locker rooms. Talia Quinzel looks a bit bored, leaning against a wall, while Selina Svelte looks worked up about something.</p><p> </p><p> “I don’t like it, I don’t like it AT ALL” Selina says, possibly addressing Talia Quinzel, though Claire Winters looks less than excited herself. </p><p> “You don’t like it? This is the way it is going to be, because I said so. When I soon become world champion, you’re going to need to cut your own path. Given your... talent, this should be the path most open.”. </p><p> </p><p> “Gee thanks. I could hear the quotation marks around the word “talent”. I feel so thrilled being invited into your little posse, Talia” Selina scoffs, but she doesn’t stop preparing herself for the upcoming match. She is no longer wearing Bad Girls Club colors.</p><p> </p><p> Talia rolls her eyes. “We’re not a tea party, Selina. I appreciate your qualities, but build yourself up if you want to be admired. I don’t have time to be your cheerleader. I’ve had enough of that type.”</p><p> <strong>Segment Rating: C+</strong></p><p><strong> </strong></p><p> <span>http://i.imgur.com/9MSufEA.jpg</span>  <span>http://i.imgur.com/aI0ZR2b.jpg</span>  vs <span>http://i.imgur.com/vzm4Q0V.jpg</span>  <span>http://i.imgur.com/2QUyjcm.jpg</span>  /w <span>http://i.imgur.com/LqQJWHu.jpg</span> </p><p> <strong>Match 3: Alexis Lee & Etsuko Arihyoshi vs Claire Winters & Selina Svelte</strong></p><p><strong> </strong>For most of the match, it is Alexis and Claire that carries the match as the two puts on a fine display of wrestling, with Claire representing raw power and Alexis with experience on her side using Claire’s momentum against her with armdrags and drop kicks. The deciding sequence happens a little later when Claire tags out in the middle of an argument with the referee. Alexis is on the mat, struggling to get to Etsuko for the tag, but before she gets there, Talia pulls Etsuko from the apron by the boots. The momentary chance for Alexis to get away is gone, and Selina easily locks in the Prawn Armlock, and Alexis taps out.</p><p> <strong>Selina Svelte wins by submission in 14:03</strong></p><p><strong> Match Rating: C+</strong></p><p><strong> </strong></p><p> <span>http://i.imgur.com/Heo5HkZ.jpg</span> </p><p> By the interview station, Farrah Hesketh has managed to grab hold of Chitose Ariwara. Cheers rise from the crowd at the sight of the popular Japanese idol.</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Farrah:</strong> You’re going into the last round with a chance to reach the final, but you have to reach the final, but to do so you need to defeat the world champion. How do you approach a match like this?</p><p> </p><p> Chitose smiles, as usual. “I have a pact, with my fans. If they believe I can do it… I CAN do it!”</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Farrah:</strong> “Will it be to your advantage that she’s just returning from a back injury?”</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Chitose:</strong> “Hm, yes maybe. I hope she is fully recovered. A win against a wounded opponent means less. I want the champion to be at her best!” She smiles and pose for the camera, to another wave of “Chi-to-se, Chi-to-se” chants.</p><p> <strong>Segment Rating: A*</strong></p><p><strong> </strong></p><p> <span>http://i.imgur.com/tjDJHC2.jpg</span>  vs <span>http://i.imgur.com/oz8ZpSz.jpg</span> </p><p> <strong>Match 4: Teresa Perez vs Purple Viper</strong></p><p><strong> </strong>In front of a hot crowd, Teresa Perez and Purple Viper goes on to put on a thrilling high flying spectacle of a match. Teresa matches Viper step for step, and the crowd starts to smell an upset, but in the back of their mind there is always that asian mist attack Purple Viper has in her back pocket. They start fighting on the outside, and they approach the announce table when Viper think she has the opportunity, but Perez manages to dodge at the last moment, instead leaving Grace Harper covered with the black ichor to the delight of the fans. </p><p> The action eventually returns to the ring while Harper is in hysterics at the announce table. After another round of back and forth attacks, Teresa dives into an attempt to bring Viper to the mat, and with some struggling manages to lock in the Around the World Armbar. Purple Viper tries and tries to get to the ropes but submits to the pain and taps out.</p><p> <strong>Teresa Perez wins by submission in 14:51</strong></p><p><strong> Match Rating: B-</strong></p><p><strong> </strong></p><p> <strong>Farrah Hesketh:</strong> Are you ok, Grace?</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Grace Harper:</strong> I AM NOT OK! I swear, I paid more for this haircut this morning than than that idiot Teresa Perez gets for wrestling here tonight. Not to mention my Dolce Gabbana blouse!</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Farrah:</strong> But certainly it was Purple Viper who attacked you…</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Grace:</strong> She attacked Teresa Perez, a legal target! The stupid bimbo should know she has a responsibility toward innocent bystanders! She should have stood and taken it, like she was supposed to! The spineless youth of today…</p><p> </p><p> <span>http://i.imgur.com/vrW0gLX.jpg</span> <span>http://i.imgur.com/oz8ZpSz.jpg</span> <span>http://i.imgur.com/tjDJHC2.jpg</span> </p><p> In the ring, Perez celebrates her victory and does not notice the fury anyone else can read from Purple Viper’s body language. Consequently, she doesn’t even try to defend herself when Purple Viper drop kicks her in the back, then sets her up for a pedigree. She slams Perez face first into the mat and is about to continue beating her up when music hits and Foxxy LaRue come sprinting down the ramp. Purple Viper senses the danger and rolls out of the ring at the same time Foxxy slides into it. </p><p> They exchange barbs, Foxxy standing on the bottom rope, gesturing at Viper to come back and face her, but Purple Viper is satisfied with her revenge and backs away.</p><p> <strong>Segment Rating: B</strong></p><p><strong> </strong></p><p> <span>http://i.imgur.com/0Hskf5g.jpg</span> </p><p> Engel starts to play, a longer intro than usual, to the point where some start to wonder if it’s a swerve and Paige Croft isn’t going to show after all, but just then, accompanied by a speaker voice declaring her “the reigning World Champion, the unstoppable, PAIGE CROFT”, she appears at the top of the ramp in full ring gear and a smirk on her face.</p><p> <strong>Segment Rating: A*</strong></p><p><strong> </strong></p><p> <span>http://i.imgur.com/Heo5HkZ.jpg</span>  vs <span>http://i.imgur.com/0Hskf5g.jpg</span> </p><p> <strong>Match 5: Chitose Ariwara vs Paige Croft</strong></p><p><strong> </strong>Ariwara looks super pumped, bouncing back and forth ready to go, while Croft it appears sports a tape up lower back, but doesn’t show any other sign that she isn’t fit to fight.</p><p> As the match starts, Paige keeps her distance, and it’s almost as if Chitose is reminded by Croft’s demeanor that oh yeah, getting a read on the opponent before you rush in head first might be a good idea, so they start circling each other, eventually locking in a test of strength which initially looks like a dead tie, but in the end it seems Ariwara wins it on conditioning, but rather than letting herself gets pushed down, Croft turns it into an armdrag, throwing Ariwara into the ring ropes behind her. For every time they face off, it’s as if Croft has some little trick up her sleeve, not cheating, just sly ring experience keeping her a step ahead, but that’s not to say Ariwara isn’t getting her hits in. It’s just the question if she can take twice the beating Croft is taking. </p><p> Fifteen minutes into the match, and both parties look pretty beat up, but Ariwara is still going for the top turnbuckle, when suddenly Maribel Mercado appears at the top of the ramp, approaching the ring with a steel chair in hand. The referee waves at her not to come closer, but she only stops a few steps short of the ring. </p><p> The distraction is enough for Croft to climb up to Ariwara, grab hold of her and throw her back first into the mat.</p><p> Pushing the advantage, Croft goes after Ariwara, but there is still fight left in her, especially when she hears the chants in support of her from the crowd. </p><p> At the other side of the ring, Grace Harper, still looking a mess from Purple Viper’s attack earlier decides to jump up on the ring apron and demand the referee’s attention, which give Maribel the opportunity she needed. She leaps up on the ring apron, waits for Croft to deliver Ariwara for the perfect chair shot. </p><p> They both come tumbling, but at the last moment, Ariwara manages to twist out of the way, and the chair instead hits Paige Croft right in the lower back to Maribel's dismay. Ariwara might only have sensed what happened, but she’s not waiting to see the consequences, she’s rushing for the opposite ring corner to get as much room as she can for a run up. Meanwhile, Paige is stumbling around, a hand to her back nursing the spot of the old injury and she barely notices when Ariwara come rushing in for a drop kick, which also happens to hit her in the back. </p><p> Chitose again rush off lining up another attack, but seeing Croft just laying down, the referee Erin Lawrence goes between them to check up on Croft who signals disappointedly to her back, and the referee calls for the bell, declaring Chitose the winner. Chitose herself looks almost disappointed at the way the match ended, but when her hand is raised, and the significance sinks in, she’s all smiles.</p><p> <strong>Chitose Ariwara wins by stoppage in 19:32</strong></p><p><strong> Match Rating: B (80)</strong></p><p><strong> </strong></p><p> <strong>Alfonso Garcia:</strong> “One match to go ladies and gentlemen, and everything is on the line! Foxxy LaRue only need one point to advance to the final, but if she loses, it is her opponent tonight that gets a shot at the gold! </p><p> </p><p> <span>http://i.imgur.com/vrW0gLX.jpg</span>  vs <span>http://i.imgur.com/HVIJsmp.jpg</span> </p><p> <strong>Match 6: Foxxy LaRue vs Jillian Jarvis</strong></p><p> The bell hasn’t even rung before Jillian is all over Foxxy, punching her over and over, pushing her into the ring corner. She moves on to kicks toward a prone LaRue until the referee breaks them up. Foxxy looks a bit shaken as she gets up, not prepared for such an onslaught. The next time Jarvis come rushing in, Foxxy is prepared, now determined to give herself time to recover, and so any time Jarvis gets too close, an elbow, an uppercut or a kick to the midsection is waiting for her. Seeing her opponents defensive approach, Jarvis wrestling also becomes more deliberate and economic. </p><p> Bit by bit, the action picks up and the two fall into their usual roles - Foxxy going for the big moves, a mix of powerful throws and flamboyant maneuvers from the top turnbuckle, while Jarvis always is on the lookout for an opportunity to cheat, or at least use the environment to her advantage. As the match passes twenty minutes it is Foxxy that is looking strong, her simple clotheslines and her high kicks look very effective on Jarvis who tumbles to the mat time after time like a sack of potatoes being thrown around. Everything points Foxxy’s way, until Deborah Young appears at the top of the ramp. The distraction isn’t long, but it is enough for Jillian to sneak up behind Foxxy for the rollup and subsequent three-count.</p><p> <strong>Jillian Jarvis wins by pinfall in 23:13</strong></p><p><strong> Match Rating: B-</strong></p><p><strong> </strong></p><p> <span>http://i.imgur.com/2sYuUTT.jpg</span> <span>http://i.imgur.com/Heo5HkZ.jpg</span> <span>http://i.imgur.com/HVIJsmp.jpg</span> </p><p> With the final match concluded, Dharma Gregg enters the ring to a smattering of boos. Jarvis is already there, and Chitose Ariwara approach the ring to chants of her name, as has become customary. The two finalists line up on each side of Dharma who has a microphone in hand.</p><p> </p><p> “After a grueling schedule, our two finalists have emerged from a field of 16 of QAW’s, no let me say, the *worlds* strongest competitors. I am the first to admit, I am surprised to see Chitose Ariwara here, but congratulations on making the final. I also welcome former world champion Jillian Jarvis back into the championship picture after some time’s absence. The final, for the Contender’s Crown and a future opportunity to face the world champion in a match for the title, will take place on Friday at Contender’s Ball. It will be some dance, I promise.”</p><p> </p><p> Chitose reach out a hand to Jillian, but instead of a handshake she is just met with fists as Jarvis pummels her into the mat, straddling Ariwara’s chest while she rain down punches until ring workers, referees and wrestlers have poured in to separate them.</p><p> </p><p> Jarvis shakes loose from the people restraining her and makes for the exit, but nobody can miss her barking in the general direction of the ring. “The crown will be mine, and Paige can start counting down the days to when her title reign ends because the true champion want her title back!”</p><p> <strong>Segment Rating: B</strong></p><p><strong> </strong></p><p> </p><p> <strong>Event Rating:</strong> B (78)</p><p> <strong>Next Event:</strong> Scars and Stripes, the Friedman Building (Mid South)</p><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="42699" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div>OOC: I had planned to cancel Scars and Stripes since it (a monthly event) and Contender’s Ball came so close to each other, but when I tried, I got a warning message about all the penalties I would incur if I cancelled it, so instead, consider Scars and Stripes a sort of warm up show for Contender’s Ball held the night before. I think I swerved you hard with these results! Granted, there were a lot of shenanigans, so it’s not entirely surprising… </p><p>

MrWolf101 takes the win in the end, finally getting the result right in a Teresa Perez match. <img alt=":D" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/biggrin.png.929299b4c121f473b0026f3d6e74d189.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p>

A Capitano/Foxxy rematch would have made a lot of sense, but their old feud only really ended about a month before this dynasty started (which none of you could have known) so people would have complained about yet another match between the two. Since the other two candidates on Foxxy’s side of the tournament are heels, I felt I shouldn’t let Capitano advance, which forced some shenanigans toward the end… There were other possibilities of course. </p><p> </p><p>

The winner, MrWolf101 gets to pick the next superstar highlight. In due time, I’ll link to the interviews from the first post, but I’ll do that when I’m not out travelling. In the meantime to freshen up your memory, so far these wrestlers have been featured: Charity Sweet, Killer Kass, Foxxy LaRue and Christy Higgins. I hope I didn’t forget anyone now... I have one in the pipeline, but if you choose that one, I’ll let you know… <img alt=":)" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/smile.png.142cfa0a1cd2925c0463c1d00f499df2.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p>

The results not being what I expected made me enjoy the show more, but that Paige vs Chitose match topped all. I'm guessing that is pretty close to a record for QAW?</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Match 1: Alexis Lee vs Selina Svelte</strong></p><p>

In a case where one could argue motivation beats class, Alexis gets payback for tapping out to Selina last time out. Seeing American Sweethearts crumble under lack of leadership and direction, Alexis solution seems to be to work twice as hard. She gets the win after a short and intense match where she stood for all the crowd pleasing maneuvers, while Selina did her best to slow things down and bring the wrestling to the ground where she could excel with submission holds. </p><p>

<strong>Alexis Lee wins by pinfall in 10:22</strong></p><p><strong>

Paige Croft gets in the ring, carrying her world title over the shoulder, getting a microphone on the way in.</p><p> </p><p>

“Tomorrow you will witness how the Contender’s Crown will be awarded either Chitose Ariwara…” - crowd interrupts her with cheers and attempts to start the Chi-to-se chant - “ …or Jillian Jarvis.” Crowd boos.</p><p> </p><p>

“I don’t know why I even bothered memorizing their names. In the history books, they will barely be a footnote. Yet another hopeful that climbed all the way to the top of the mountain, only to realize they had not even gotten halfway. I…” We never get to hear what she was about to say, as she’s interrupted by the familiar Aesop Rock theme of Foxxy LaRue, who saunters down toward the stage with a microphone in hand.</p><p>

“It’s funny you’re talking about how great you are and what a long reign you have had, but let nobody forget, you skipped out on a proper title defense against me. You still owe me a shot at my title back.”</p><p> </p><p>

‘’You got…” Paige starts her sentence, when Lamb of God spiills out through the loudspeakers, and Capitano come out from backstage, also with microphone in hand, and Killer Kass trailing behind her. </p><p> </p><p>

“You always felt you were owed this and that, didn’t you, Foxxy? How long can you save the right to a title defense? One person finished ahead of Paige in the Contender Series and didn’t get a shot to show who’s the better, and that is me. You can go to the back of the line as far as I’m concerned.”</p><p> </p><p>

Seeing that Capitano is done, Paige starts to say something, but this time, Kass has taken the microphone out of Capitano’s hand.</p><p> </p><p>

“No disrespect boss, but in this waltz for a title shot, sure I lost to LaRue in the tournament, but I’ve beaten her before. I’ve beaten her,” Kass says, pointing a finger at Croft. “Not in a title match, but a pin is a pin.”</p><p> </p><p>

Paige starts to protest “That was not even in Q…” and she’s interrupted again, by the Rob Zombie theme music of Jillian Jarvis who comes out shaking her head. “You’re a bunch of idiots the lot of you. First, there is no point in comparing your merits in relation to Paige Croft, because by the time any of you get a title shot, she won’t be champion any more. And even if she were, I beat both Kass and LaRue on my way to this final, so here we can really talk about time to get to the back of the line, sisters.”</p><p> </p><p>

By now, Paige isn’t even trying any more, she just waves out with her hands, signalling that she gives up. Instead, Capitano recovers the microphone from Kass.</p><p> </p><p>

“Kass, I understand you want a shot, but let’s focus on the titles we hold, ok? You’re business savvy, you know what a bad idea it is to overextend, to put all eggs in one basket. You concentrate on the tag team titles, and I’ll make sure to bring the world title to the club. Ok?”</p><p> </p><p>

Kass takes back the microphone. There is just a tiny teeny bit of irritation in how she recovers the microphone. “I don’t like when you treat me like I’m stupid. You are also holding the tag team gold. Why is it fine for you to go for the World title?”</p><p> </p><p>

“I’m sure you haven’t forgotten our deal. You’re a contractor, right? So you focus on the tasks I think you should focus on, so I can deal with more important stuff. And now, I think you should focus on us keeping our tag team titles.”</p><p> </p><p>

And so they could have gone on, but there is a look of mutual understanding between Foxxy and Jarvis, and before there is time for Kass to grab the microphone for another reply Foxxy has delivered a big boot to Kass, and Jarvis spears Capitano to the floor. There they all four proceed to pummel each other, while Paige carefully climbs out of the ring, treads carefully between the four with a “don’t mind me”, as she walks off stage.</p><p>

<strong>Match 2: Higa vs Darkness Cat</strong></p><p>

In a match full of high spots, Higa helped pull out what might become a career defining performance from the resident spot monkey, and it was still a losing effort after Darkness Cat swanton dived on to the announce table, moments earlier occupied by Higa. Higa got back in the ring before the 10-count while the unlucky cat, now presumably with only eight lives left, did not.</p><p>

<strong>Higa wins by count out in 9:39</strong></p><p><strong>

<strong>Match 3: Etsuko Arihyoshi & Thea Davis vs Anderson & Snyder</strong></p><p><strong>

</strong>A match up that during the past weeks would have belonged in the pre-show is now given the slot right before the main event and time to show what they can do, and they manage to deliver a well crafted story. The well drilled Anderson and Snyder carried the match on their shoulders, but neither Etsuko nor Thea fell out of the frame, doing their part. Thea got the hot tag and got to clean the ring before the heels resorted to cheap tricks to isolate Etsuko until Snyder could get the pin.</p><p>

<strong>Lily Snyder wins by pinfall in 19:36</strong></p><p><strong>

Match Rating: C</strong></p><p><strong>

</strong></p><p>

<span>http://i.imgur.com/0Hskf5g.jpg</span> </p><p>

On the video screen, a recap plays of messages that has been delivered during the past weeks to Paige Croft - the time bomb video, the package delivered to her locker room, the vaguely menacing threatening messages. By the end of the video package Paige herself has come out, and she sees for herself the ending, which is a short, new segment. It is a montage of Paige Croft in ring, and the common denominator is that in every clip, Paige is either being clotheslined or suplexed to great effect. At the bottom, a line of gun powder is burning its way toward a bundle of dynamite, and before the video fades out, a digital clock fades in: 22:57:44...43…42…</p><p>

After a few seconds of ticking down, text appears above the timer:</p><p> </p><p>

PAIGE CROFT TITLE REIGN, TIME REMAINING:</p><p> </p><p>

At this, Paige’s patience finally runs out. “I don’t even have a match tomorrow! I demand someone explain what’s going on!”</p><p> </p><p>

There is some confusion as for who she hopes to get an answer from, but eventually she gets one from the announce table.</p><p> </p><p>

<span>http://i.imgur.com/WSqBaZQ.jpg</span> </p><p>

<strong>Alfonso Garcia:</strong> I’ve just been in touch with General Manager Dharma Gregg who unfortunately can’t be with us today, she confirms that you indeed have a title match tomorrow at Contender’s Ball against the as of yet unnamed opponent. </p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Paige:</strong> Dharma booked this match? That’s impossible. She’s...she’s on MY side!</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Alfonso:</strong> I got the impression that Dharma was quite disappointed that her champion isn’t representing in the final. She was so disappointed that she arranged this match instead. I’m sure she hasn’t taken her hand from her favorite...</p><p> </p><p>

Paige just screams in frustration, drops the microphone and storms out.</p><p>

<strong>Alfonso Garcia:</strong> The following match, I understand Teresa Perez asked for. </p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Farrah Hesketh:</strong> I heard that too. It is unclear why, given the bad blood between Teresa’s former friend Christy Higgins and Talia Quinzel, you could imagine this is Teresa showing she’s on Christy’s side after all?</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Grace Harper:</strong> Or she just wants to rub Christy’s nose in the fact that Teresa can do what Christy can’t. She’s a petty bi… I mean, just a straight up awful person after all. </p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Farrah:</strong> Well, you have certainly explored that personality type more thoroughly than most. If you ask me, Teresa is a very nice person.</p><p> </p><p>

<span>http://i.imgur.com/tjDJHC2.jpg</span>  vs <span>http://i.imgur.com/LqQJWHu.jpg</span> </p><p>

<strong>Match 4: Teresa Perez vs Talia Quinzel</strong></p><p><strong>

</strong>Once the two are in the ring, Talia can’t resist playing some mind games with Teresa. </p><p>

“You have to realize by now, you and I are more alike than you could have imagined. We have both cast the weak pathetic Christy aside, we both have an ego to feed. The idea to conquer Christy’s nemesis when she couldn’t must thrill you inside.” Talia smiles wickedly. If the plan was to enrage her opponent, the plan was a success, because Teresa lunges at Quinzel who is well prepared and immediately lariats Teresa to the mat. Not deterred, she bounces right back up, ready to go. The match soon takes on a pattern - Teresa gets some brilliant high flying offense in, but spends most of the match sailing through the air, not of her own volition but because she’s being tossed around the ring by Talia Quinzel who properly looks like championship material as she takes the opportunity to decimate Perez. And even then, she can’t help herself from cheating as she uses the ropes for leverage as she pins Teresa.</p><p>

<strong>Talia Quinzel wins by pinfall in 22:10</strong></p><p><strong>

Match Rating: B</strong></p><p><strong>

</strong></p><p>

<span>http://i.imgur.com/LqQJWHu.jpg</span> </p><p>

Having been announced as the winner, Quinzel turns toward Perez with a gesture across her throat, suggesting she’s not done with her, but Teresa is quick enough this time to slide out of the ring and out of harms way. Instead, Talia turn her attention to the crowd that can’t express clear enough how much they hate her.</p><p>

<strong>Segment Rating: A</strong></p><p> </p><p>

The video screen turns to a commercial. A forlorn woman's voice read familiar lines from a certain Disney film.</p><p> </p><p>

"Oh, well. What's a royal ball?" </p><p> </p><p>

<em>Camera sweeps over the unmistakeable ring gear of Paige Croft, from boots past shorts, gloves and top, settling on her fists as she adjusts the gloves in a gestures suggesting 'ready to fight'</em></p><p><em>

</em></p><p>

"After all, I suppose it would be frightfully dull, "</p><p> </p><p>

Shots from old documentary films of genteel couples dancing the wiener waltz to classical music. </p><p> </p><p>

"...and-and-and boring, and-and completely... Completely wonderful."</p><p> </p><p>

<em>Record scratch into Ministry - Just One Fix and flash into a montage of the most impactful and death defying maneuvers of the last four weeks of Contender Series - shots of Chitose Ariwara delivering a drop kick from the top turnbuckle on Paige Croft, of Killer Kass flattening Foxxy LaRue with a lariat, making her do a 360 in the air from the impact. Of Jillian Jarvis furiously unleashing on Christy Higgins with her fists, and of Higa moonsaulting to the outside striking down Capitano.</em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em>

A male voice ends the clip as images of Jillian Jarvis and Chitose Ariwara looking </em></p><p><em>

into the camera with their best fighting faces, clenching fists.</em></p><p><em>

</em></p><p> </p><p>

"Contenders Ball. Jillian Jarvis versus Chitose Ariwara for the crown. It's the last dance you want to miss."</p><p> </p><p>

And it fades to black.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Results</strong></p><p><strong>

I made a small mistake with the bonus question. I could have sworn there were four unique results, but Match 1 and Match 3 had in fact identical ratings. It did not make a difference for the winner, but the result was that MrWolf101 got the order perfectly correct. So correct order: Main event, Match 1 & 3, Match 2.</p><p> </p><p>

MrWolf101: 2 + 4 from bonus question</p><p>

I realize I haven’t posted the totals of the prediction contest for the last couple of shows, much because it has been decided since some time. The prize for the whole of Contender Series will have to wait a bit as I need access to my computer back home. <p>This is a hell of a card. I'm excited to see how things play out, and for the big reveal of Paige's opponent to see if it's who I think it is. <img alt="" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/cool.png.f00d2562b2c1d873a09323753efdb041.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p>

Card for Contenders Ball</p><p> </p><p>

Dark Match 1: <strong>Maria Guest</strong> vs Darkness Cat</p><p>

<em>Maria is warming up.</em></p><p>

Dark Match 2: Juana Huracán & Etsuko Arihyoshi vs <strong>Maribel Mercado & Purple Viper</strong></p><p>

<em>Ah, going against my gut to say Maribel and Viper need the win more.</em></p><p> </p><p>

Opener: Foxxy LaRue & Thea Davis vs <strong>Special Edition (Young & Sweet)</strong></p><p>

<em>Very interesing. Should be a Match of the Night candidate, but I think this would mean more for Special Edition to win, with Thea taking the fall.</em></p><p>

Match 2: Pamela Rojo vs <strong>Brooke Tyler</strong> for Shockwave title shot</p><p>

<em>This just feels like the right time to pull the trigger with a Brooke push and see if she sinks or swims.</em></p><p>

Match 3: Dogs of War © (Capitano & Kass) vs <strong>The Untouchables (Quinzel & Winters)</strong> for the tag team championship</p><p>

<em>Both of these teams had so much going for them in the tournament that I've gone back and forth on this. I'll say that Capitano and Kass are ready to move on from the tag team title scene.</em></p><p>

Match 4: Christy Higgins vs <strong>Teresa Perez</strong></p><p>

<em>Let's keep the streak going! </em><img alt=":p" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/tongue.png.ceb643b2956793497cef30b0e944be28.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p>

Match 5: Mystery wrestler vs <strong>Paige Croft</strong> for the World Title</p><p>

<em>It would be hardcore to have the debuting wrestler win the World title right way. I could see it happen, but I'll go with a DQ finish that leads to a bigger feud.</em></p><p>

Main Event: <strong>Chitose Ariwara</strong> vs Jillian Jarvis for the Contender’s Crown</p><p>

<em>Assuming Paige is still the champion, I like her facing off against Chitose again, with the title on the line this time.</em></p><p> </p><p>

Bonus questions:</p><p>

- Who is the mystery wrestler that Paige Croft faces for the world title? A newly signed wrestler with main event status. <em>I think I know, but I won't say. </em><img alt=":D" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/biggrin.png.929299b4c121f473b0026f3d6e74d189.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p>

- Match of the night? <strong>Foxxy LaRue & Thea Davis vs Special Edition (Young & Sweet)</strong> <em>a bit out on a limb here, but Foxxy is so over while Paige is facing someone that starts off with no momentum. </em></p><p>

- Number of title changes? <strong>1</strong></p><p> </p><p>

Tie breaker: What is the attendance? Contenders Ball is held at Ranch of San Antonio. Round number, let's say <strong>7,000</strong></p><p> </p><p>

Wrapping up Contender Series</p><p> </p><p>

- The Contender Series as a whole. Is it a worthwhile endeavour? Is a long tournament like this even interesting? In the past, I have also run Queen of the Ring in October as a smaller kind of knockout tournament over 2-4 events. You could change the format of that tournament based on your answer here.</p><p> </p><p>

<em>I like having the two different tournament styles, and a bracket tournament should be fun, so I'm looking forward to that. Doing all these shows must have been a lot of work, but it was a good way to go with the diary to have a good look at the different characters without having to do too much storyline progression with the tournament being the focus.</em></p><p><em>

</em></p><p>

- A favorite moment during Contender Series? <em>To be honest, Perez's movie skit sticks out in my mind for whatever reason. It was something different and that was probably when I started rooting for her. Chitose beating Paige and the way you built up Kass over the course of the tournament were highlights for me as well.</em></p><p> </p><p>

- A favorite match? <em>Paige vs Chitose, not only was the result a surprise, I found myself really getting into the action as I read.</em></p><p> </p><p>

- A favorite worker? <em>Teresa Perez for me. She's someone that I'm not familiar with, so I enjoy getting to know her character and I feel like she's someone I'd root for in real life. I also really love your portrayal of Paige.</em></p>
