New Japan Pro-Wrestling Co., Ltd. (新日本プロレス株式会社 Shin Nihon Puroresu Kabushiki-kaisha), operating as New Japan Pro-Wrestling (新日本プロレス Shin Nihon Puroresu) and sometimes referred to as NJPW, is a major Japanese professional wrestling promotion founded in June 1972 by Antonio Inoki. In 2005, Inoki sold the promotion to Yuke's, who sold it to Bushiroad in 2012. Dean is the current President of the promotion and has held that position since January 2017, when the previous President, Katsuhiko Harada, was promoted to Chairman.

Owing to its TV program aired on TV Asahi, NJPW is the largest wrestling promotion in Japan and the second largest in the world in terms of attendance and revenue (behind WWE). From its creation in 1972 until 1986, it was a member of the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA). NJPW is known for openly engaging in working agreements with various MMA and professional wrestling promotions around the world, and presently has relationships with Ring of Honor (ROH), Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL), and Revolution Pro Wrestling (RPW). NJPW's biggest event is January 4th at the Tokyo Dome, held each year since 1992 and currently promoted under the Wrestle Kingdom banner.

<div style="background-color:#ffffff;color:yellow;border-style:solid;border-width:3px";">I can only hope a few of you were wondering what happened to my NJPW journal, but wonder no more. I ran into one too many problems with my old game, and realized it was a big mistake to run a journal off the first save I had in TEW 2016. I made some critical mistakes in both the game and in the general booking of New Japan (for example, there are always rematches after title changes, and I ignored that). In addition to some (luckily resolved) computer issues, I decided to go with a clean slate and start over again, using the newest Real World mod.

I won't link to my old game, just so I can hopefully surprise some new readers. But I will link to Mootinie's NJPW as it has really influenced my style and presentation, and is well worth a read if you want some inspiration. He also gave me permission to use some of his graphics, so even more gratitude sent his way!

End of the Year Recap!

<div style="background-color:#ffffff;color:yellow;border-style:solid;border-width:3px";">End of the Year Recap by Dean - 12/10/16

With Wrestle Kingdom 11 around the corner, let's take a look back at the last few months of New Japan and recap the Road to the Tokyo Dome.

At King of Pro-Wrestling in October, we saw three successful title defenses. Kazuchika Okada defeated Naomichi Marufuji in an amazing main event, while Katsuyori Shibata retained his NEVER Openweight Title against Kyle O'Reilly. As for the tag team championships, the Bullet Club reigned supreme as the Guerrillas of Destiny won the IWGP Tag Team Title when they defeated the Briscoes, while the Young Bucks successfully defended against the newly formed team of Ricochet and David Finlay.

At Power Struggle, we saw Tetsuya Naito successfully defend his IWGP Intercontinental Title in a rematch against Michael Elgin, while KUSHIDA regained the IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Title in a rematch against BUSHI. Shockingly, the masked man we've recently seen accompany Los Ingobernables attacked KUSHIDA after the match. The returning Kamaitachi unmasked, proclaimed himself the newest member of Los Ingobernables de Japón, and demanded a match against KUSHIDA!

The end of the year also saw the annual tag team tournaments; Hirooki Goto and Tomohiro Ishii won the World Tag League, defeating EVIL and SANADA in the finals. As for the Super Jr. Tag Tournament, the team of David Finlay and Ricochet defeated Roppongi Vice in the finals, which should earn them another shot at the Young Bucks.

The full card for Wrestle Kingdom 11 should be announced shortly, as New Japan begins a new year with a massive show at the Tokyo Dome.

http://i.imgur.com/l3Mucxl.png

<div style="background-color:#ffffff;color:red;border-style:solid;border-width:3px";">This is just a little recap of what I am assuming will happen over the course of the next three months. I am beginning my game on 1/1/17, and will start with the Big Pro-Wrestling Festival. I want to make a note about two major story lines - I am assuming that the new Ingobernable is Kamaitachi. I love this idea and think he is a perfect fit, so I am going to run with it. As for the "TIME BOMB" that's been teased on recent NJPW shows, I am going to hold off to see who they really bring in and will most likely copy that in my game (unless it's someone like Ryback lol). I have a feeling it's Minoru Suzuki, but I am unsure if it will be just him or the whole Suzuki-Gun, and I don't want to add that many guys to my roster unless it's the direction Gedo really goes in. The card for WK11 will be posted next.

Fan vote for Wrestle Kingdom 11 main event!

<div style="background-color:#ffffff;color:yellow;border-style:solid;border-width:3px";">Fan vote for Wrestle Kingdom 11 main event! by Dean - 12/11/16

In a shocking turn of events, it has been announced that New Japan Pro-Wrestling will allow an online fan vote to determine the main event of Wrestle Kingdom 11! The choice will be between the IWGP Heavyweight Title match that sees the first ever foreign-born G1 Climax winner, Kenny Omega, challenge Kazuchika Okada and the IWGP Intercontinental Title match between champion Tetsuya Naito and Hiroshi Tanahashi!

Tetsuya Naito famously lost the vote to main event Wrestle Kingdom 8, in which the fans chose to see the Intercontinental Title match between Shinsuke Nakamura and Tanahashi over Naito's Heavyweight Title match against Okada. Will Naito avenge his loss an finally main event the Tokyo Dome?

Full card for Wrestle Kingdom 11 @ Tokyo Dome!

<div style="background-color:#ffffff;color:yellow;border-style:solid;border-width:3px";">Full card for Wrestle Kingdom 11 @ Tokyo Dome! by Dean - 12/17/16

The full card for Wrestle Kingdom 11 has been announced! In a turn of events that is eerily similar to what unfolded before Wrestle Kingdom 8, the fans voted to see the IWGP Intercontinental Title match in the main event of the evening! We will see Tetsuya Naito defend his Intercontinental Title against "The Ace of the Universe" Hiroshi Tanahashi.

The semi-main event will be the IWGP Heavyweight Title match between "The Rainmaker" Kazuchika Okada and "The Cleaner" Kenny Omega. This is Okada's 2nd defense, as he beat Naomichi Marufuji at King of Pro-Wrestling in October.

Katsuyori Shibata will continue to wage war against Pro-Wrestling NOAH, and will defend his NEVER Openweight Title against Go Shiozaki. These two have consistently had heated interactions over the last few months, including a memorable brawl on the last night of the G1 Climax.

In a special singles match, Michael Elgin will face "The Unchained Gorilla" Togi Makabe. These two bruisers have never had a singles match against each other. As in years past, the winner of this contest would be in line for a shot at the IWGP Heavyweight Title.

The Guerrillas of Destiny regained the IWGP Tag Team Title at King of Pro-Wrestling, but must defend against the World Tag League winners Hirooki Goto and Tomohiro Ishii in a match that furthers the feud between CHAOS and Bullet Club.

KUSHIDA has dominated the junior heavyweight scene in 2016, but BUSHI's upset win at Destruction in Tokyo shocked the ace of the juniors. BUSHI's reign was short-lived, as KUSHIDA regained the IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Title at Power Struggle. Nevertheless, KUSHIDA is not done with Los Ingobernables, as Kamaitachi attacked him after the match, demanding a shot at KUSHIDA's newly won title.

The CHAOS trio of Will Ospreay, Rocky Romero and Beretta won the NEVER Openweight Six Man Tag Team Title in October, defeating Satoshi Kojima, Ricochet and David Finlay to capture the gold. On January 4th, the CHAOS vs. Los Ingobernables feud will be rekindled, as they will face off with EVIL, SANADA and BUSHI!

In what has become tradition, the ROH World Champion will defend his title at the Tokyo Dome. This year, the match will continue the Bullet Club's feud with CHAOS, as YOSHI-HASHI challenges Adam Cole!

The rivalry between NJPW and NOAH continues, as the Third Generation and Tomoaki Honma will take on the GHC Heavyweight Tag Team Champions Toru Yano and Naomichi Marufuji and some of NOAH's best in a ten man tag match.

Finally, the IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Tag Team Title will be defended in a four way tag match. The newly formed team of Ricochet and David Finlay bounced back in a big way after their loss to the Young Bucks in October, winning the annual Super Jr. Tag Tournament in December. While the winners traditionally receive a shot at the title, the Motor City Machine Guns were actually the team that eliminated the Young Bucks in the tournament, granting them a spot in this contest. Furthermore, reDRagon lost the belts last year without ever being pinned, as Matt Jackson scored the victory over Rocky Romero. All three of these teams are more than worthy contenders!

The 11th Wrestle Kingdom will be live from the Tokyo Dome on January 4th!

I'm shocked it was a B, but I booked to avoid the "crowd disappointed because of a match between jobbers" note that comes up if you do Young Lion matches. Taguchi carried Kanemitsu to a B-, so I'm happy about that. This show lost some popularity for me, but is consider a "success" in my locker room, and boosted the morale.

Wrestle Kingdom 11 results!

<div style="background-color:#ffffff;color:yellow;border-style:solid;border-width:3px";">Wrestle Kingdom 11 results! by Dean - 1/4/17

New Japan Pro-Wrestling began the year with a show that might not be topped at any point in 2017. 32,000 fans were in attendance for a night highlighted by amazing matches for the NEVER Openweight and IWGP Intercontinental Championships, as well as three title changes.

Katsuyori Shibata retained his NEVER Openweight Title in what will inevitably be a Match of the Year candidate, and one of the best matches of either his or Go Shiozaki's career. This victory may very well signal the end of Shibata's feud with Pro-Wrestling NOAH.

Exactly one year after defeating Hiroshi Tanahashi in one of the best matches in New Japan's history, Kazuchika Okada won once again at the Tokyo Dome. Kenny Omega's performance established him as a top star in New Japan, but Okada remained the champion.

In the main event, we saw a story three years in the making come to a close. At Wrestle Kingdom 8, Tetsuya Naito's match against Okada for the IWGP Heavyweight Title lost the fan vote to Tanahashi's match for the IWGP Intercontinental Title against Shinsuke Nakamura. This year, the fans voted to finally see Naito in the Tokyo Dome main event. However, this position did not guarantee a win, as Hiroshi Tanahashi defeated Naito, earning his second reign as IWGP Intercontinental Champion. As in so many years past, Tanahashi played his air guitar to close out the Tokyo Dome show.

By the time they were eliminated, Yujiro Takahashi and Bad Luck Fale were able to team up. YOSHITATSU and Ryusuke Taguchi eliminated Takahashi to remain in the final three with Fale, who reversed a YOSHITATSU elimination attempt by throwing him over the rope and then managed to hit the Bad Luck Fall on Taguchi. So, I gotta ask- if a B show loses you popularity, what is your popularity?

I think my popularity is 84 or so in Japan. I use the letter grades, not numbers, so I am unsure and can't check now. I have noticed that some B shows give me the "lost popularity" note, while others do not. I'm assuming I'm right in the middle of what constitutes a "B", so some shows send me down and some don't. However, the advice I received on the General Discussion board really helped me out. Who knew Tanahashi playing that air guitar would be so vital to my show's rating!

New Year Dash!! results!

<div style="background-color:#ffffff;color:yellow;border-style:solid;border-width:3px";">New Year Dash!! results by Dean - 1/5/17

The annual New Year Dash!! event has always shaped the direction of the coming months in New Japan, and this night was no different. In the main event, Michael Elgin was dominant, using the Elgin Bomb to pin Gedo and securing the win for his team over CHAOS. After the match, Elgin grabbed the microphone and issued a challenge to IWGP Heavyweight Champion Kazuchika Okada! Okada stole the microphone and accepted, all while Hiroshi Tanahashi looked on.

However, Okada was not the only champion to be on the losing side of a match. Both NEVER Openweight Champion Katsuyori Shiabata and IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Champion KUSHIDA were pinned, by Tomoaki Honma and Ricochet, respectively. In New Japan Pro-Wrestling, there is no better way to secure a title shot than by pinning a champion. Honma also beat Shibata in a one-on-one contest back in the G1 Climax, so he is all but guaranteed a NEVER Openweight Championship in the near future.

In addition, the newly crowned IWGP Tag Team Champions also lost, and Tama Tonga picked up a huge pinfall over Tomohiro Ishii. Oftentimes, newly dethroned champions are granted a rematch, and this victory certainly secures another shot at the belts for the Guerrillas of Destiny.

Not all of the champions lost tonight! Los Ingobernables de Japón retained their NEVER Openweight Six Man Tag Team Title, as EVIL picked up a big win over Kazushi Sakuraba with the EVIL (his appropriately named STO). These three might be the most cohesive trio to win the titles so far.

With rivalries brewing between Okada and Elgin, Shibata and Honma, KUSHIDA and Ricochet, and the Guerrillas of Destiny and CHAOS, the New Beginning is sure to be a heated event. But before that, the CMLL luchadores will make their appearance! Fantastica Mania is next on the calendar!

These were challenging to book since I was trying to ensure every card was realistic but also a B or better, and the CMLL vs. CMLL matches bomb every time. Last year's main events were matches that would have gotten me a D or C in this game, so I had to mix it up a bit. I kept with the idea of CMLL title matches, but they don't seem to have them defend against NJPW guys, as the outcomes would be too predictable. I like what I ended up with, but it was tougher than a regular show.

I am going about things a bit differently here, as I want to make sure I post full cards long before the results, just like how it would be in real life. I am also booking these venues in the game, and I'm very happy Fleisch's mod has such an extensive selection of real Japanese venues. The results will be posted one night at a time, hopefully I can get the first one posted tomorrow. Overall, most of the shows went well, only one was a B+ and the rest were all B's. Some surprising outcomes and some disappointments, but nothing too crazy. As for the predictions, instead of pick 'ems I am going to ask you all to try something different.

I'm assuming I'm right in the middle of what constitutes a "B", so some shows send me down and some don't. However, the advice I received on the General Discussion board really helped me out. The upside to this is that the losses from these shows should be statistically insignificant, and you should see an over-all growth as long as you keep up with strong PPVs.
