Fantastica Mania Night 3 results!

<div style="background-color:#ffffff;color:yellow;border-style:solid;border-width:3px";">Fantastica Mania Night 3 results! by Dean - 1/19/17

Night 3 of the Fantastica Mania tour saw a title change as Místico captured the CMLL World Welterweight Title from Mephisto! Místico unsuccessfully challenged for the title back on July 11th, 2016 at a CMLL Lunes Arena Puebla show, where he lost to Mephisto in a two out of three falls match. The night ended in two solid matches, continuing the tour's string of consistently good shows.

Fantastica Mania Night 4 results!

<div style="background-color:#ffffff;color:yellow;border-style:solid;border-width:3px";">Fantastica Mania Night 4 results! by Dean - 1/21/17

Fantastica Mania returned with another solid night of lucha libre action! While this was definitely one of the weaker of the five shows, the Black Cat Memorial Match delivered as always. Los Ingobernables de Japón put on good performances as well, winning both their tag and six man tag matches. While SANADA easily made Fuego tap to the Skull End, Tetsuya Naito had to dig deeper into his repertoire, using a Front Cradle pinning combination out of nowhere to defeat KUSHIDA.

As for the CMLL titles, Atlantis failed in what was his third shot at the NWA World Historic Middleweight Title, as he challenged unsuccessfully back in December of 2015 and March of last year. Guerrero certainly has Atlantis' number. Volador Jr. also retained, making his 11th defense - his second straight year defending at Korakuen Hall!

Fantastica Mania Night 5 results!

<div style="background-color:#ffffff;color:yellow;border-style:solid;border-width:3px";">Fantastica Mania Night 5 by Dean - 1/23/17

The Fantastica Mania tour ended tonight in Korakuen Hall, and the Special Six Man Tag Match saw quite the finish, as Michael Elgin pinned IWGP Heavyweight Champion Kazuchika Okada with the Elgin Bomb! After the match, Elgin hung around the ring and got in an intense stare-down with the champion.

While the semi-main event fell flat, three matches on the card were worth checking out. Dragon Lee and Kamaitachi put on another clinic, displaying their amazing chemistry. The eight man tag with Los Ingobernables and the main event were both solid contests as well. This brings an end to the Fantastica Mania tour, and New Japan will return with the Road to the New Beginning on 1/30/17!

<div style="background-color:#ffffff;color:yellow;border-style:solid;border-width:3px";">So that wraps up the Fantastica Mania tour and I'm glad it's over. In the real world mod, the luchadores do not have a style that works in front of the NJPW crowd. So while I see CMLL shows have good ratings, these guys put on terrible matches here. I was lucky to have skilled midcard guys like Taguchi, Liger and Tiger Mask to attempt to salvage what would be terrible matches otherwise. As for this show, I was really, really disappointed in Will Ospreay vs. Místico, which would probably be great in real life. I was expecting at least a B-. I am working my way through the Road to the New Beginning shows now, so I will post them soon enough!

1.) What will be the best match of the whole tour (rated an 88)? Hiroshi Tanahashi & Dragon Lee vs. Tetsuya Naito & Kamaitachi (how great would this really be?)

2.) What will be the worst match of the tour (rated a 40)? Mephisto vs. Atlantis (surprised me as well - two of the most over luchadores just put on a terrible match)

3.) What night (1 - 5) will be the only one to score a B+? Night 2

4.) Two titles changed hands - which ones? CMLL World Welterweight and Mexican National Light Heavyweight

Road to the New Beginning cards!

<div style="background-color:#ffffff;color:yellow;border-style:solid;border-width:3px";">Road to the New Beginning cards! Title matches announced! by Dean - 1/24/17

For the last few years, the New Beginning has been two nights that define the course of the year for New Japan Pro-Wrestling. This year is no different, as fans in Hiroshima and Osaka will see scores settled, rivalries renewed, and all seven titles defended. Before the events take place at the Hiroshima Sun Plaza and the Osaka Maishima Arena, New Japan must embark on the Road to the New Beginning, which will feature countless bouts that give fans some idea of what to expect come February 11th and 14th.

The New Beginning starts in Hiroshima. While the Young Bucks are not on the Road to the New Beginning tour, they will be back in a New Japan ring on February 11th as they seek to make the fourth successful defense of their IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Tag Team Title. In what has become a New Beginning tradition, the title match will be a three way tag, pitting the Bucks against the team of David Finlay and Ricochet as well as the Los Ingobernables de Japón duo of BUSHI and Kamaitachi, who has taken NJPW by storm after revealing himself as the surprise fifth member of the group late last year.

The IWGP Tag Team Title will also be on the line that night. At Wrestle Kingdom 11, the CHAOS team of Hirooki Goto and Tomohiro Ishii started their first reign as tag champs, defeating the Bullet Club's Guerrillas of Destiny, Tama Tonga and Tanga Loa. In New Japan, there is almost always a rematch after a title changes hands, and this is no exception. Goto and Ishii are two of the hardest hitting wrestlers in New Japan, but the Guerrillas could very well have the support of the Bullet Club behind them.

Katsuyori Shibata has dominated the NEVER Openweight division as of late, as he regained the title from Yuji Nagata back in June of 2016 and has not looked back since. Shibata has been on a mission to defend the belt against anyone who scored a win over him in the G1 Climax - that list includes EVIL, Michael Elgin, Tomoaki Honma and Toru Yano. While he has defeated EVIL, Elgin is occupied with his IWGP Heavyweight Title chase and Yano is still on an excursion in NOAH. That leaves Honma, who picked up a pinfall over Shibata at New Year Dash, firmly establishing himself as the next challenger.

In the main event of the evening, Tetsuya Naito will have a chance to recapture the IWGP Intercontinental Title from Hiroshi Tanahashi in a rematch of their Wrestle Kingdom 11 classic. These two have faced each other in incredible contests before, including the final of the 2013 G1 Climax that saw Naito win the tournament for the first time. Many fans saw Naito as filling the void left by Shinsuke Nakamura, who single-handedly raised the prestige of the Intercontinental Title. Will Naito be able to follow the path established by "The King of Strong Style", or will "The Ace of the Universe" retain his championship?

In Osaka, the remaining three titles will be on the line. The NEVER Six Man Tag Team Title will be defended in a very interesting contest as the Los Ingobernables de Japón team of EVIL, SANADA and BUSHI will face the legendary juniors team of Jushin Thunder Liger and Tiger Mask and their new partner, Tiger Mask W! Tiger Mask W debuted back at King of Pro-Wrestling in a dark match to promote the new Tiger Mask anime series. Will the newcomer be able to compete at the level of Tiger Mask and Liger?

Speaking of legendary juniors, KUSHIDA will be defending against Ricochet in an effort to establish himself as one of New Japan's all-time great juniors. While many fans pine for the halcyon days of junior heavyweight wrestling, there has certainly been a resurgence as of late, with KUSHIDA and Ricochet at the forefront. Ricochet has never won the IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Title, despite winning the Best of the Super Juniors in 2013, the year he debuted in New Japan Pro-Wrestling. Will KUSHIDA's reign be cut short by "The Future of Flight"?

Lastly, the main event of the evening will see Kazuchika Okada defend his IWGP Heavyweight Title for the third time. The challenger will be Michael Elgin, who has rocketed up the ranks in New Japan after debuting in the 2015 G1 Climax. Only a year and a half later, Elgin is challenging for the IWGP Heavyweight Title after defeating Togi Makabe in the Special Singles Match at Wrestle Kingdom 11. Elgin secured his shot after pinning Okada with an Elgin Bomb on the last night of the Fantastica Mania tour. Can Michael Elgin follow in the footsteps of men like Vader, Scott Norton, Brock Lesnar and AJ Styles, and become one of a handful of non-Japanese competitors to win the top title in all of professional wrestling? The New Beginning will seek to answer all of these questions and more!

1.) What will be the best match of the whole tour (rated an 88)? (hint - it was not a main event)

From 1/31/17. Tetsuya Naito, EVIL, SANADA, BUSHI & Kamaitachi vs. Hiroshi Tanahashi, Hiroyoshi Tenzan, Bobby Fish, Kyle O'Reilly & Togi Makabe

Naito and Tanahashi, and the match isn't tainted by Toru Yano. It could be very good.

2.) What night (1 - 7) will score the highest (rated an 85)?

I imagine it is going to be super close, but I'll go out on a limb (as if the other guesses don't) and say the first night ends up being the best.

3.) What main event will score the highest (rated an 87)?

I think the first night's match between Kazuchika Okada & YOSHI-HASHI vs. Hiroshi Tanahashi & Michael Elgin looks good.

Thanks for the replies. I just wanted to thank Mootinie again for letting me use some of the graphics that were in his awesome NJPW journal. I've also reformatted the posts to make stuff easier to read and more visually appealing. Take a look and let me know what you think. I am going to post the first night of the Road to the New Beginning soon, so get your predictions in now! Feel free to post them even after I put up the first night, as it won't make it too much easier to predict since I use letter grades when I post.

Road to the New Beginning Night 2 results!

<div style="background-color:#ffffff;color:yellow;border-style:solid;border-width:3px";">Road to the New Beginning Night 2 results! by Dean - 1/30/17

The Road to the New Beginning tour sold out the Tokorozawa Hall today, and the night's main event saw Kazuchika Okada pick up a victory over Michael Elgin's team, using the Rainmaker to pin Jushin Thunder Liger. After the match, Okada grabbed the microphone and cut a promo in which he promised Elgin would suffer the same fate his friend Hiroshi Tanahashi did the last time he faced him - a Rainmaker clothesline and a loss. The tour continues tomorrow night from the Akita Terrsa Great Hall.

Night 3 of the Road to the New Beginning tour sold out the Akita Terssa Great Hall, and the fans there saw an amazing main event as Michael Elgin led his team to victory over CHAOS, using the Elgin Bomb to defeat Toru Yano. In the semi-main event, SANADA picked up a big win, making Hiroyoshi Tenzan tap out to the Skull End. Also of note was Ricochet's second pinfall victory over IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Champion KUSHIDA, as he used a Shooting Star Press to beat the champ. Ricochet has pinned KUSHIDA twice since Wrestle Kingdom, and will look to do so again at the New Beginning in Osaka.

But at least I can share some finisher trivia! Yano's Urakasumi is a leg hook front facelock rolled into a cradle, and Honma's Kokeshi Otoshi is the over the shoulder reverse piledriver he uses. Seems a bit brutal to bust that out on poor Kawato, but hey, Honma is tough teacher. Oh, and on a personal note: 501 posts! Only took 10 years to break 500 lol.

Full cards for the New Beginning in Hiroshima and Osaka!

<div style="background-color:#ffffff;color:yellow;border-style:solid;border-width:3px";">Full cards for the New Beginning in Hiroshima and Osaka! by Dean - 2/8/17

The complete cards for both New Beginning shows have been released, and there are some very intriguing matches in addition to the championship bouts that have already been announced.

Michael Elgin is hoping to ride the momentum he's built up over the Road to the New Beginning, as he will challenge for the IWGP Heavyweight Title for the first time in his career.

Hiroshi Tanahashi is hoping to defend the IWGP Intercontinental Title in a rematch of his classic bout against Tetsuya Naito at Wrestle Kingdom 11. Naito has stated that he seeks to take the title away and put Tanahashi back to the undercard where old timers like him belong.

KUSHIDA will try to defend his Jr. Heavyweight Title against Ricochet, who has scored two pinfall wins over him in the last few months. KUSHIDA and Ricochet each have a victory over each other in singles competition in NJPW, and this will be the rubber match.

Katsuyori Shibata has defeated EVIL, and now only has Tomoaki Honma and Michael Elgin waiting to cash in their victories over him in the G1 for shots at the NEVER Openweight Title! With Elgin pre-occupied, will Honma be the man to take the belt away from Shibata? Honma has never won a singles title in New Japan, but he has come very close to winning the NEVER Title on a few occasions.

Both IWGP Tag Team titles will be on the line, as the Guerrillas of Destiny seek to recapture the belts they lost at Wrestle Kingdom 11, and the Young Bucks try to retain in a three way contest.

Tiger Mask W returns to NJPW, and he is teaming with some legendary juniors in an effort to dethrone Los Ingobernables de Japón, who are putting together a solid reign as NEVER Openweight Six Man Tag Team Champions.

In non-title competition, Bobby Fish and Kyle O'Reilly will be taking on the heavyweight tag team of EVIL and SANADA, perhaps foreshadowing a jump in weight class for reDRagon. Plus, Adam Cole, Kenny Omega and the rest of Bullet Club, Kazushi Sakuraba, and more! The New Beginning is live on PPV February 11th and 14th!!
