WWF 2001: The Invasion

Recommended Posts

invasionnnn.png

In the history of wrestling, there was no man more divisive. No man more controversial. No man with more skeletons in his closet.

Vince McMahon, for once and for all, reigned supreme. He had bought his competition.

For years, Vince had stolen talent, coerced networks and screwed workers all on his way to the top. And, eventually, even that "wrasslin' company" down south fell into his grip. But, what Vince didn't know, what Vince couldn't have known, was that for one man... this was the plan all along.

For the next year, Vince McMahon would grow to regret so much of his past. The ghosts of his gravest mistakes would haunt him, the demons that had shouted down his better angels would be put to the test, and Vince McMahon would be forced to face his past due to the machinations of one man.

The question is, "Who?"

This is the story of how the most powerful wrestling company in the history of the industry was forced to capitulate to the demands of a group of renegades. Of how a kingdom was brought to its knees by its ruler's iniquities.

This is the story of how WWF died.

Welcome to The Invasion.

Excerpt from Wrestling Observer Newsletter by Dave Meltzer:</p><p> </p><p>

<span style="font-family:'Courier New';">"...all of which suggests that we might finally be seeing the debut of WCW talent at this week's Monday Night Raw. It is unknown in which capacity either of these two workers will appear, but one could assume that it will be in relation to the Shane McMahon vs. Vince McMahon feud. How that will manifest itself has been kept tightly under wraps at Titan Tower.</span></p><p><span style="font-family:'Courier New';"> </span></p><p><span style="font-family:'Courier New';">

WWF RAW is WAR</strong></p><p><strong>

1st Monday of May, 2001</strong></p><p><strong>

The Spectrum, Tri State – 15,183 fans</strong></p></div><p></p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="Jim_Ross.jpg" data-src="https://s22.postimg.org/3zez85z1t/Jim_Ross.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="Paul_Heyman.png" data-src="https://s22.postimg.org/ffle67d81/Paul_Heyman.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p>

“Welcome to RAW is WAR! Paul, we’re coming off of a hot Backlash!”</p><p> </p><p>

“There’s a change in the wind – and it looks like it’s the era of McMahons.”</p><p> </p><p>

“Of course you’re talking about four titans battling in the ring for all the gold. This Two-Man Power Trip has claimed virtually all of the gold in WWF after defeating Undertaker and Kane for the Tag Titles.”</p><p> </p><p>

“I don’t think anything could sate the hunger of the McMahon-Helmsley-Austin alliance. Matt Hardy and Chyna better watch out.”</p><p> </p><p>

“No doubt, Paul. And of course Shane McMahon defeated The Big Show, another win for a different McMahon.”</p><p> </p><p>

“One of the most unlikely results I’ve ever seen in my life, JR. Shane McMahon has taken everything Vince has dished out to him, but I expect at some point, there will be retribution.”</p><p> </p><p>

“We’ll find out soon, Paul, as Mr. McMahon has scheduled himself on first tonight to address his title-holding lackeys.”</p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><span>http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/Invasion/RAWisWARBanner.jpg</span><p> </p><p>

<img alt="Vincent_K_Mc_Mahon.png" data-src="https://s22.postimg.org/oyzodeq41/Vincent_K_Mc_Mahon.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="Triple_H.png" data-src="https://s22.postimg.org/4cays36pd/Triple_H.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="Stone_Cold_Steve_Austin.png" data-src="https://s22.postimg.org/mdu3pw0q9/Stone_Cold_Steve_Austin.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

Mr. McMahon strides to the ring, smirking with smugness as “No Chance in Hell” blares across the PA system. Climbing into the ring, Vince chastises the crowd for booing, which yields only more jeers.</p><p> </p><p>

“I know, I know. You all just can’t contain yourselves in delight as MY Two-Man Power Trip has claimed all of the top prizes in this company. Come on out, you two, it’s time for a celebration.”</p><p> </p><p>

Austin and Triple H enter together, clinging two belts apiece. “Steve, Hunter, tonight is YOUR night. Together the two of you have swept up all of the competition in WWF. This is the era of YOU!”</p><p> </p><p>

Austin shakes Vince’s hand and nods at Triple H. Vince continues. “And Hunter, my boy, you’ve made me the proudest father a man could be. Which is why, tonight, I want to announce that I am naming you as my successor to the reins of WWF should anything befall me. You understand that a man has to gut his opponents, destroy them, trap them in his fist and crush them until they’re dust.”</p><p> </p><p>

“Dad,” Triple H says, to boos, “All I’ve ever wanted was to look out over these crowds of fans and be able to tell them to suck it, and now, I have the titles, I have the future of this company, and I have the toughest SOB in the business at my side. No one will ever be able to topple the McMahon-Helmsley – “</p><p> </p><p>

“Here comes the mon-aaay…”</p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="Shane_Mc_Mahon.png" data-src="https://s22.postimg.org/k7zsvdx9t/Shane_Mc_Mahon.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

Shane McMahon enters to cheers from the audience. “Whoa, whoa, whoa. Sorry to interrupt this little mutual admiration society. I know you boys had a huge win last night. I had a big show myself. A Big Show, ha. Inadvertent pun. Anyways, Dad, I know that you’re living a story book fantasy here with the son you always wanted and your greatest nemesis lapping at your heels, but hell – what’s a party without a couple crashers, right?”</p><p> </p><p>

“Dammit, Shane! I’ve had enough of your crap. Your countless failures, always barely squeaking by. Time after time after time you’ve disappointed me. Well I’ve found a son that won’t disappoint. I gave you an out; take a beating from the Big Show, disappear quietly and never come back. What the hell is wrong with you? You want more punishment?”</p><p> </p><p>

“Ha, no thanks, Pops. I just wanted to remind you that there’s, well, a rematch clause in the Main Event contract from Backlash, and ‘Taker and Kane are entitled to another shot at the Tag Titles… tonight.”</p><p> </p><p>

“I run this company, and I’ll damn well decide when my two boys here have their next match. You can just slink back to whatever – “</p><p> </p><p>

Austin held up a hand in front of Vince. A few moments of tense silence between the three men in the ring ensued before he spoke. “Kid’s got a point. We put the boots to Lurch and Lurch Jr. and we can damn well do it again tonight. Why wait? Hunter and me, we got this.”</p><p> </p><p>

Triple H seemed puzzled for a few minutes but eventually nodded in agreement.</p><p> </p><p>

“Well thank you, Mr. Rulebook. Shane, you’ve done a great deed today, but you know what? Your services are no longer required. I am banning you from WWF arenas permanently. For once and for all, you’ve been insubordinate to me for the last time. GET THE HELL OUT OF HERE!”</p><p> </p><p>

Shane smiled. “You know, I wondered when this day would come. And just so you know, your new son, that muscled mass of bone-headed ego that you think is your future? He may be willing to keep your secrets, but I’m not bound by that familial bond anymore.</p><p> </p><p>

“The sins of the father visited upon the child. I’ll be seeing you, Dad.”</p><p> </p><p>

With that, Shane dropped the mic and walked back up the ramp.</p><p> </p><p>

In a 6-minute match, Billy Gunn found himself repeatedly rebuffed by the sheer brutality of the stiff Bradshaw. Faarooq was at ringside to cheer on his tag partner, but much of his time was actually spent opening and drinking a beer. This, however, did not prove a deterrent for Bradshaw’s success as he kicked out of the One and Only, then landed a Clothesline from Hell to win. Gunn sat in the ring, stunned as Faarooq cracked a beer open for Bradshaw.</p><p> </p><p>

After a commercial break, Billy Gunn unlaced his boots, sulking in the back. He slammed his fist into a set of lockers out of frustration. Hearing the noise, Chris Jericho poked his head around from the other side of the lockers.</p><p> </p><p>

“Well if it isn’t the One Billy Gunn. How’d your match go, kiddo?”</p><p> </p><p>

Gunn motioned his head in the direction of the celebrating APA who were lighting up cigars. “How do you think it went?”</p><p> </p><p>

Jericho smiled leaned against the lockers. “Hey, we all lose one here and there. Look, I just was conned out of a win by Regal last night. Am I complaining? Hell no. I’m lacing up my boots and getting back in the gym so I can rack up more wins and get another chance at that bastard.”</p><p> </p><p>

“You’re telling me to keep my chin up?”</p><p> </p><p>

Jericho laughed. “I don’t give a damn about your chin. I’m telling you that after I saw you take a beating from a drunk with probable lung cancer, I went to the booking committee. You and me, we got a match on Smackdown tomorrow.”</p><p> </p><p>

Jericho threw a towel in Gunn’s surprised face as he walked out of the locker room. “Dude, get a shower. You reek.”</p><p> </p><p>

Rhyno, with his Hardcore belt in hand, was with great care, surveying all of his surroundings in a hallway backstage. When he caught sight of a vending machine, he paused to purchase what he mentioned was his favorite snack, Gummi worms. Unfortunately, the vending machine and its stock of worms had been placed there by Crash Holly in an attempt to score a pin on Rhyno. Holly smashed Rhyno across the back with a baseball bat, and Rhyno stumbled into the vending machine. Pulling Rhyno back to put him down for a pin, Rhyno grabbed Holly and threw him into a pile of boxes. Hardcore Holly came charging down the hallway, but Rhyno grabbed him with one arm and threw him into the vending machine smashing the glass panel.</p><p> </p><p>

Rhyno reached in, grabbed some Gummi worms, and continued down the hall.</p><p> </p><p>

The Rock came down to the ring before the match started, while the Goodfather waited in the ring, and he pointed out that the Godfather used to be a pal of his. “What happened to you, man? You used to the conductor of the ‘Ho Train’! Now you’re running around with a bunch of honkies dressed up like Jehovah’s Witnesses. I don’t know what the hell they did to you, but you look like the token black man in a Mormon parade.”</p><p> </p><p>

The Goodfather then lunged for the Rock, and even successfully knocked him down, but before too long, the Rock got the upper hand, dropping the People’s Elbow on the Goodfather to claim a pin in 6:22.</p><p> </p><p>

The Rock stood on the second turnbuckle to soak in the adulation from the crowd, but then the Goodfather pulled him down and went to deliver a punch to the Rock’s face. The Rock pushed himself back with a boot and stooped down to grab a mic.</p><p> </p><p>

“Whoa, whoa, whoa, big man. You really want to tango again?”</p><p> </p><p>

The Goodfather lunged again, but the Rock slapped him across the face, sending him for a loop again.</p><p> </p><p>

“We can go at this all day, you on your little censorship crusade… and let’s face it that’s going to get you absolutely nowhere. Hell, you’re leaving more hos unemployed than Ric Flair for the first three months of each one of his marriages. Or… you know, they say music can heal the deepest wounds. How about…”</p><p> </p><p>

The Rock pointed up to the speakers above the ring, and the Godfather’s old entrance theme began to play. The Rock gingerly reminded the Goodfather of his old entrance music, and the Goodfather tried to shake the cobwebs from his head. But he slowly started jiving to the rhythm of his Ho Train theme. The Rock rolled out of the ring, grabbed the Godfather’s old hat and cane from ringside and threw up to the Godfather, who caught them and without a step strutted his way back up to the entrance. The Rock grabbed his mic and followed, turning to the crowd and saying, “You’re welcome.”</p><p> </p><p>

It had been a little while since the two former Radicalz had been in the ring together, and there was a sign of respect between the two before a solid back and forth. A few times, Saturn nearly had Guerrero with the Rings of Saturn, but every time, Guerrero was able to reach the ropes and break the hold. Eventually, Saturn tried for the Rings of Saturn again, only to have it reversed into… the Rings of Saturn by Guerrero! Saturn was forced to tap out at 11:34, giving Guerrero the shot for the IC title.</p><p> </p><p>

Backstage, Rhyno sat enjoying his Gummi worms on a bench as Grand Master Sexay slowly rose behind him preparing to grab him by the neck. Without so much as pausing his snack, Rhyno whipped his arm up and backwards, clocking Sexay in the face, leaving him cross-eyed as he slumped downwards.</p><p> </p><p>

Raven came up behind Rhyno with a trash can lid, but Rhyno simply said, “Don’t.”</p><p> </p><p>

Deflated, Raven just spat out a “Dammit!” and stalked away.</p><p> </p><p>

After a commercial, Eddie was grabbing his bag to leave the arena when Saturn stopped him. Perry scratched the back of his head.</p><p> </p><p>

“Hey… it was great being in the ring with you again.”</p><p> </p><p>

“Hey, once a Radical, always a Radical, eh esse?”</p><p> </p><p>

Saturn stuck out his hand to shake. “Hey, next time you won’t be so lucky.”</p><p> </p><p>

Guerrero shook. “Ha, we’ll see holmes.”</p><p> </p><p>

Saturn refused to break the handshake. “Yeah, I guess we will.”</p><p> </p><p>

The two stared at each other for a time as Chris Benoit and Dean Malenko walked up. “What is this, a family reunion?” Malenko said, slapping them both on the back.</p><p> </p><p>

Saturn slammed Malenko’s head into Guerrero with his free hand, then shot an elbow out at Benoit, who dodged it. Benoit grabbed the extended arm of Saturn and used it like a fulcrum, pushing Saturn into Guerrero.</p><p> </p><p>

“What the hell, man?” Guerrero said. He popped back up and went for Benoit, Malenko grabbed Saturn and pushed him into a wall, and the four men brawled until security broke them up.</p><p> </p><p>

Edge and Jeff had a storied history in the tag scene, but this was a rare chance to see them both in a singles setting. The two immediately took to the top turnbuckles for a variety of high-flying spots, throwing caution to the wind. At ringside, Christian and Matt Hardy encouraged their tag partners. Hardy seemed to have the upper hand against Edge, but Christian begin to argue with Matt at ringside, and Matt left his European Title belt exposed. As the ref tried to separate the two fighting partners at ringside, Edge grabbed the belt and clocked Jeff, laying him out. The ref slid back in to give Edge the victory in 12 minutes.</p><p> </p><p>

Neither Matt nor Jeff were pleased at this outcome and they tried to reason with the ref. Christian responded by delivering a double clothesline to both from behind in the ring, and both he and Edge celebrated this cowardly act until the Dudleyz ran out and threw Edge out of the ring, delivering a 3D to Christian and helping Jeff and Matt up… only to throw both of them out of the ring, too.</p><p> </p><p>

Immediately, Triple H went after Kane in the ring, and Austin and Triple H continually were able to prevent Kane to reach Undertaker for a pin. After several minutes, Kane was able to throw Triple H out of the ring and tag in Undertaker. Taker and Triple H revisited some of their Wrestlemania melee, fighting at ringside before both rolled into the ring to break the count. Austin tagged in and was able to deliver a Stunner, but when he went for the pin, two individuals ran in from out of the crowd and broke the pin while also kicking the Undertaker. The result was a Double DQ in 13:23 as the two men from the crowd immediately turned to face Triple H and Kane.</p><p> </p><p>

WWF Smackdown</strong></p><p><strong>

1st Thursday of May, 2001</strong></p><p><strong>

Birmingham-Jefferson Arena (South East) – 15,128 fans</strong></p><p><strong>

</strong><img alt="Tazz.png" data-src="https://s13.postimg.org/44tl5493b/Tazz.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="Michael_Cole.jpg" data-src="https://s13.postimg.org/3myfp9jif/Michael_Cole.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p></div><p></p><p>

“Welcome to Smackdown! I’m Michael Cole alongside Tazz – “</p><p> </p><p>

“Cole, this is unbelievable. This is utterly unbelievable. Monday night our company was assaulted by two of the biggest names from that OTHER promotion.”</p><p> </p><p>

“Look, Tazz, I know that you’re heated about this, but let’s stay objective – “</p><p> </p><p>

“Objective my ass! I’m freaking thrilled right now! You have no idea how awesome this is! Shane finally stepping up to the plate, taking on old Daddy Warbucks with the gimmick schnebitz over here? I can’t wait to watch Vince blow a gasket.”</p><p> </p><p>

“Well, you may get your wish as our Chairman is coming to the ring right now.”</p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><span>http://i897.photobucket.com/albums/ac180/Duaner910/smackdown_logo_640w.gif</span><p> </p><p>

Vince steamed to the center of the ring, his face flushed with anger.</p><p> </p><p>

“Dammit, Shane, I know you’re lurking somewhere around here, so get your ass down here!”</p><p> </p><p>

Silence.</p><p> </p><p>

“SHANE, I SAID GET YOUR ASS DOWN HERE!”</p><p> </p><p>

Still nothing.</p><p> </p><p>

“I know what you’re planning to do. I invented the hostile takeover. That’s not happening. And we can have your guys constantly come in from out of the crowd, beat up my guys and leave. But that won’t get you what you want. So I’m going to spare us all months of grief. How about I give you one opportunity to settle this score – you pick your best guy, and I’ll give you ONE title shot of your choice. You win a #1 Contender’s match tonight, and on Monday you can have that shot.</p><p> </p><p>

“Because, I know you, Shane. I know what you want. You want to be me. And, dammit, I was even a little bit impressed with the balls you showed, stealing WCW right out from under me. But, it’s time to grow up. It’s time to play in the big leagues. If you lose though… you’re out. You’re gone forever. No coming back.”</p><p> </p><p>

The Titantron turned to static for a moment before Shane appeared on it.</p><p> </p><p>

“Hey, Pops.”</p><p> </p><p>

“So what’s it going to be, Shane?”</p><p> </p><p>

“I love it, I’m in. But I’m not coming for one belt, I’m coming for two. I want those tag titles. Your little Two-Man Brown-Nosing Committee against my guys. The two best against the two best. And if I lose, I walk away. But if I win, let’s make it more interesting.”</p><p> </p><p>

Vince was intrigued. “What do you mean?”</p><p> </p><p>

“If I win, you grant me a 10% stake in the company on Monday night.”</p><p> </p><p>

Vince laughed. “10%? That’s nothing! I’ve got the other 90%!”</p><p> </p><p>

“So it won’t bother you in the slightest, will it?”</p><p> </p><p>

“Kid, you’ve got yourself a deal.”</p><p> </p><p>

“You better find a tag team to take on my boys then.”</p><p> </p><p>

The Titantron went black.</p><p> </p><p>

Cole reminded the viewers about Gunn’s run-in with Jericho on RAW. Gunn was out for blood here, but it proved to be nothing more than hopeless for him as Jericho swept him up completely. With the Walls of Jericho applied, Gunn struggled to avoid a second-straight loss, but was unable to, and tapped out in 7:00.</p><p> </p><p>

After the match, Jericho grabbed a mic and put his foot on the back of Billy Gunn throughout his promo:</p><p> </p><p>

“William Regal. Anyone can win a match when they make the rules, but if you were truly a real man – that’s still something you claim, right? – if you were truly a man, you wouldn’t need tricks to beat me. Just like I beat the One and Done Billy Gunn here. Got anything to say, Bill?”</p><p> </p><p>

“AAAAGH!”</p><p> </p><p>

“Billy, I'm not finished, so would you kindly SHUT THE HELL UP? Regal, you and me, one clean match. You beat me, I’ll admit that you’re the better man. But you won’t.”</p><p> </p><p>

Jericho dropped the mic and jumped over the rope. Gunn finally struggled to his feet and picked up the mic, but after a few moments of hesitation he simply threw it down and left the ring, dejected.</p><p> </p><p>

Backstage, Rhyno walked down the hall with a fanny pack. A few people snickered at him, to which he glared but continued pacing with the belt. At this point, K-Kwik and Albert leapt out from behind a set of cases from lighting. Albert tried to hold Rhyno’s arms while K-Kwik delivered punches to the stomach, and Rhyno howled in pain. Al Snow ran down the hall, coming to aid the source of the distress, but when he saw it was the Hardcore Champion, he paused, considering his options. Rhyno eventually kicked K-Kwik in the chest, the force of which knocked Albert back, but Rhyno knocked his head on the cement floor, unconscious. Al Snow went for the pin, but K-Kwik pulled him off and went himself for a pin. The two went back and forth until Albert lifted them both up and threw them into the lighting cases. When he went for the pin, he was met with mace from Rhyno’s pouch; as he tried to clear his eyes, Rhyno pulled out a taser and tased Albert, then pulled three sets of handcuffs out and handcuffed the three men into a circle, walking away.</p><p> </p><p>

Test came out, ready for a fight, but Big Show came out, and he wasn’t in the mood for theatrics. He quickly paced into the ring, and the moment the bell rang, he immediately began to pulverize Test. Tazz was floored; Test wasn’t a pushover. This was, obviously, a very, very angry Big Show with something to prove. A chokeslam sealed the deal in 5:05.</p><p> </p><p>

Backstage, Vince began seeking opponents. After Big Show’s display, he asked Show to take one of the spots in the #1 Contender’s match, but Show just ignored him and kept walking. Vince gingerly approached Kane, and listened to Vince’s pitch before turning around. The camera panned over to Undertaker who simply tipped the front of his sunglasses and laughed.</p><p> </p><p>

“Dammit,” Vince swore as he stalked off.</p><p>

In the ring, Kurt Angle called out Chris Benoit:</p><p> </p><p>

“We’re not finished, Benoit. You won some of the pins, but I won the others. And if it had gone just a few more minutes, I would’ve been the man on top. I want a rematch. But on Monday, I expect to see you at the top of the show, you and me… with just one submission, it’ll either be you or me.”</p><p> </p><p>

After a commercial, Vince continued searching for tag teams. He had called a meeting of the division and Steve Austin had joined him at the podium in a room backstage. Four tag teams sat in front of them, none of them paying particular attention.</p><p> </p><p>

Austin spoke to his crowd: “Listen up, you sons of bitches. Tonight we’re putting Shane’s delusions of grandeur down. And two of you idiots better have the cajones to put down a couple of those losers from down south. WCW died and tonight we make sure it stays dead. So who wants to be heroes?”</p><p> </p><p>

The tag teams were quiet. Faarooq spoke up first. “Pardon my ignorant ass here, Steve, but you and I both got our starts in WCW. Why should I give a DAMN about putting them down?” Faarooq and Bradshaw left, leaving three teams.</p><p> </p><p>

“I’ll deal with your ass later. Anyone else got a problem?”</p><p> </p><p>

Bubba Ray and D-Von stood up to leave. “Where in the hell are you two going, dammit?” Vince screamed.</p><p> </p><p>

“Listen, boss, love to help, but I got a Title match later already. Which makes me wonder, do you even read the cards you put together?”</p><p> </p><p>

Vince seemed embarrassed but stared at the Hardys and Edge and Christian. “Who’s it going to be? What about it Jeff?”</p><p> </p><p>

Edge stood up. “Screw that. I literally beat Jeff three nights ago. You want a couple of street urchins with more hair colors than IQ points, or do you want to bonafide superstars?”</p><p> </p><p>

Austin rolled his eyes. Vince winced in feigned pain. “Fair point. Edge, Christian… tonight you’re my representatives. Go out there and do the WWF proud.”</p><p> </p><p>

Kurt Angle came out to scout the match from the announcer’s table, and he provided his own skewed insight of what made each man in the ring inferior. This match went back-and-forth as the four men seemed to have none of the love they shared together over the last year. Guerrero and Malenko started the match, Guerrero rolling out of hold after hold. Benoit was tagged in and tried his own hands at forcing Eddie to submit, but Eddie squirreled his way out of a Crossface and tagged in Saturn. Saturn, however, refused to enter, and the two got into a fight. When Benoit pulled Eddie back, Saturn clocked Benoit from behind and Dean ran in to stop Saturn. The four broke into a melee and when they refused to listen to the referee after spilling out the ring, the ref blew off the match in a Double Count Out in 10:32. It took more refs to break up the fight as the show went to commercial.</p><p> </p><p>

Backstage, Edge and Christian were grooming themselves in front of each other to compliments from one another. Triple H stepped up behind Christian and said, “Are we having fun?”</p><p> </p><p>

Christian jumped with a shriek into Edge’s arms. Triple H got close in to both of their faces. “I hope so. Because if you two lose tonight, I will personally see to it that your lives become a living hell. You like tag matches? How about 10-on-2 matches every night until you’ve been eaten into a casket? You’ll never get another shot at a belt again. Hell, you’ll be blackballed from every Podunk indie show in the world. I’ll make sure you two never wrestle again.</p><p> </p><p>

Triple H left. Christian turned to Edge.</p><p> </p><p>

Bubba Ray wasn’t lying; he had a match already scheduled for the night, and a possible win would land either competitor in a Title match at Judgment Day. Bubba Ray surprisingly took control over the larger Faarooq early on in this match, but Faarooq soon came back in a big way, using his raw strength to dominate with stiff clotheslines and even a powerbomb. But in the end, Bubba Ray actually found a way to reverse Faarooq’s devastating Dominator, getting a shocking quick roll-up to win in 11:04.</p><p> </p><p>

Rhyno was in the restroom when Steve Blackman rushed him from behind and crotched him with a kendo stick at a urinal. Before he was able to push Rhyno to the floor for a pin, TAKA Michinoku slid out from under the stalls and swept Blackman’s legs out, leading him to crash on the floor. Rhyno ripped a hand dryer off of the wall and cracked it on Blackman’s head, putting down one would-be Hardcore Title contender. Turning towards TAKA, Michinoku seemed to consider attacking for a minute then backed away with his hands raised. “Uh… no choppee choppee peepee.” TAKA ran away as Rhyno charged after him.</p><p> </p><p>

Edge and Christian came out first to great fanfare, but Diamond Dallas Page and Booker T simply hopped over the fan barricade and claimed into the ring with no Titantron or music. Vince, who came out for commentary, feigned lament that no one had wasted time on music for either man. “Maybe someone could get Jimmy Hart to twang out a few more terrible themes on his gee-tar for them if I didn’t lay waste to Dubya Cee Dubya.”</p><p> </p><p>

Booker took the opening sequence against Edge, and immediately Edge was thrown for a loop. No one had ever thought to scout the WCW personnel. Vince was floored that they would even need to be scouted. “What, former tag champs can’t handle two guys who have never even tagged before? I mean, these are WCW idiots! What good could they possibly be?”</p><p> </p><p>

Tazz reminded Vince that both men were WCW champs. “Heck, Booker left WCW on its last day as both the United States Champion and the WCW Champion!”</p><p> </p><p>

“I don’t even know what that means, and I won’t respond to it,” was the reply.</p><p> </p><p>

When Christian came in to break up a pin attempt, DDP also joined the match for the first time. This was a night of firsts – neither of these icons had ever stepped into a WWF ring before. “And they never will again. Just you watch.” But Vince was beginning to sweat.</p><p> </p><p>

Edge and Christian regained control of the match, and Booker came back in. Booker soon found himself trapped in E & C’s corner, and it seemed to be doom for the WCW renegades. But, somehow he was able to kick out of a pinfall and return to his corner. DDP came in, but faced Edge diving from the top rope… only to</p><p> </p><p>

“DIAMOND CUTTER OUTTA NOWHERE! RIGHT OUT OF THE AIR, DDP HAS DROPPED EDGE FOR 1…2…3! THEY’VE DONE IT! WCW IS ALIVE AND WELL… AND GUNNING FOR THE WWF TAG TITLES!”</p><p> </p><p>

“No, no, no dammit! NO!”</p><p> </p><p>

From behind, Shane McMahon had also scrambled out of the audience, knocking out Vince with… the WCW Championship!?!?</p><p> </p><p>

“Dad, you’ve fought so long to kill off WCW, but tonight is the beginning of the end for you. With 10% of the company, I hereby invoke a provision of the WWF Charter which allows me – and any other stockholder with at least a tenth of the company ownership – to hire talent on one-year probationary contract in the event that the majority shareholder is incapacitated. And, would you look at that, Dad? You’re out cold. Welcome to full-time WWF employment, boys.”</p><p> </p><p>

“And as OUR first act as WWF talent, Shane,” DDP said into the mic. “Booker and I hire you, Shane McMahon as our manager.”</p><p> </p><p>

Vince rolled over, waking up. “Good morning, Pops. We’ve got a lot to talk about.”</p><p> </p><p>

Tazz roared into his mic. “New tag title #1 contenders will face the two biggest titans our company has next week on Raw! It’s Team WCW vs. the Two-Man Power Trip! I can’t even believe it, Cole!”</p><p> </p><p>

Vince could have bought out the contracts from Time Warner when he was making his purchase of WCW, so I have of course kept any injuries that preclude the talent from appearing and for any bought-out that I am picking up, I am adding a 60 day period of non-use. I also am subtracting the cost of each contract in its entirety from WWF's cash pool.</p><p> </p><p> The reasons are two-fold: Time Warner did not care about these contracts and would have jumped at the chance to at least not have them be red marks in their books. A couple of execs have said as much in interviews over the years. Furthermore, I'm not Vince, so I'm willing to eat the cost for something that will bring in money (unlike the XFL).</p><p> </p><p> I've also made one other change which I believe is sensical, but won't play into the storyline for upwards of four months which I'll explain when I get to it.</p><p> </p><p> I'm sure some people will disagree with me on this, but I made sure I had something that would back up my logic before I did it. Excerpt from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter by Dave Meltzer:</p><p> </p><p>

<span style="font-family:'Courier New';">"...Well, this has been a far cry from what we saw at Wrestlemania. A sad-looking group of midcarders in the stands has turned into two of the biggest stars in WCW. So where is that group of talent?
