WWF Raw is WAR</strong></p><p><strong>

2nd Monday of May, 2001</strong></p><p><strong>

Joe Louis Arena, Great Lakes – 20,993 fans</strong></p><p><strong> </strong></p><p><strong>

</strong><img alt="Jim_Ross.jpg" data-src="https://s22.postimg.org/3zez85z1t/Jim_Ross.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="Paul_Heyman.png" data-src="https://s22.postimg.org/ffle67d81/Paul_Heyman.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p></div><p></p><p>

“By God, it’s WWF Raw is WAR! In the last week we’ve seen a revolution. Outside forces have invaded, Paul. It’s goddamned mayhem here in the WWF.”</p><p> </p><p>

“You know, I’ve never been too fond of WCW, but I like Shane’s thinking. Overthrow the shackles of tyranny. This is a new era! Viva la resistance!”</p><p> </p><p>

“Tonight – and I can’t believe I’d ever say this – Diamond Dallas Page and Booker T will be facing off with the Two-Man Power Trip, the duo of the toughest sons of bitches in wrestling today.”</p><p> </p><p>

“And don’t forget that Shane’s banishment was short-lived. He’ll be at ringside as manager for the WCW boys.”</p><p> </p><p>

“Damned right, Heyman. Let’s head ringside for an announcement from our fearless leader.”</p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><p></p><span>http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/Invasion/RAWisWARBanner.jpg</span><p> </p><p>

<img alt="Vincent_K_Mc_Mahon.png" data-src="https://s22.postimg.org/oyzodeq41/Vincent_K_Mc_Mahon.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="Edge.png" data-src="https://s22.postimg.org/mwq07oddd/Edge.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="Christian.png" data-src="https://s22.postimg.org/dha4ugvch/Christian.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="Triple_H.png" data-src="https://s22.postimg.org/4cays36pd/Triple_H.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

“NO CHANCE” reverberated throughout the arena as Vince stalked to the ring. “Cut the damn music. Just cut it. I want Edge and I want Christian out here, right now. Get your asses to the ring.”</p><p> </p><p>

Edge and Christian complied, seeming cowed by their loss on Smackdown. “Well, hello there, boys. How was your weekend?”</p><p> </p><p>

Edge started to talk but Vince cut him off. “Great. Let me tell you about my weekend. I was filling out paperwork. Lots of it. Paperwork is such busy work, you know? Gotta say, it put me in a bad mood. Maybe it’s because I was signing 10% of the company over to my layabout wastrel son. Maybe it was because I just signed contracts for two local yokels from WCW. THAT’LL put butts in seats.</p><p> </p><p>

“Anyways, then I had an idea. I figured, if I had to be inconvenienced over your incompetence, you two should be, too. So this week, I’m putting together some matches for you two. Tonight, you’re up first Christian. How about… hmm, what do you think, Hunter?”</p><p> </p><p>

Triple H came out, standing at the top of the ramp. “I’m thinking… oh, I don’t know. How about the goddamned Undertaker?”</p><p> </p><p>

Christian turned pale. “That’s a fantastic idea, Hunter! Any other thoughts?”</p><p> </p><p>

Triple H smiled. “Just one.”</p><p> </p><p>

Triple H raced down to the bottom of the ramp and knocked Edge down before standing up and Pedigreeing Christian, leaving both men out cold.</p><p> </p><p>

“All right, gentlemen. You can go,” Vince said before leaving the ring. </p><p> </p><p>

Angle wanted redemption for his clear loss at the hands of Benoit, and it showed here. Benoit found himself playing defense for nearly eight minutes before he finally found his hands wrapped around Angle’s face, nearly forcing the Olympian to tap to the Crossface. Angle’s hand went up the air, but before it could come down for the tap, Perry Saturn rolled into the ring and began kicking Benoit in the side, the ref blowing off the match as a DQ for Benoit.</p><p> </p><p>

Angle rolled out of the ring, wanting nothing to do with the fracas, but he still saw fit to raise his hands in triumph as Eddie Guerrero and Dean Malenko both ran out to join the fight. Dean threw Saturn out of the ring, but Benoit was incensed, assuming all three of them had interfered, and he slapped Malenko. The response was a Boston Crab from Malenko that was quickly ended by a top rope splash from Guerrero. Refs once again were forced to break up the former Radicalz before things became dire.</p><p> </p><p>

After a commercial, the Rock and the Godfather stopped by the APA’s poker game. Of course, it was a tense situation. After all, it was rare to see someone actually top Faarooq in five-card stud. The Rock and Faarooq and the Godfather reminisced about their days in the Nation of Domination, as all four men shared beer and cigars.</p><p> </p><p>

Bradshaw was enthralled. “Man, Ron, that sounds fun as hell. I would’ve loved to hang out with you guys.”</p><p> </p><p>

The former Nation members exchanged glances. The Rock broke the silence. “Bradshaw, I don’t think you would’ve fit in.”</p><p> </p><p>

Bradshaw seemed disappointed. “Why not?” </p><p>

The Rock raised an eyebrow. “You don’t know much about the Na-“ </p><p> </p><p>

Unfortunately, his response was cut short by the Right to Censor, who beat down the door to the APA’s poker room.</p><p> </p><p>

“How dare you steal one of our soldiers in the fight against amorality, Rock!” screamed Ivory. “Boys… get them!”</p><p> </p><p>

The Right to Censor flipped the table and went after the Rock and the Godfather, but Faarooq and Bradshaw pumped the breaks, separating both groups. “Whoa, now wait a DAMN minute, lady!” Faarooq exclaimed. “You want to fight these guys, I’m all for it. But do it in the ring. Ain’t no need to be spilling beer all over the place.”</p><p> </p><p>

Ivory considered this for a moment. “Fair enough. Tonight, you two, I expect you both to face down my two best men.”</p><p> </p><p>

Gunn was quickly learning to loathe going to the ring. William Regal manhandled him even worse than Jericho had on Smackdown, and Gunn was visibly irritated. Gunn actually went for 10 pins with less-than-stellar results in this match before Regal put him out of his misery in 8:14.</p><p> </p><p>

Michael Cole was preparing to interview Rhyno backstage when Funaki jumped Rhyno from behind with a katana. He latched onto Rhyno’s back and held the katana across Rhyno’s neck. Rhyno tried to reach behind him and extricate himself from Funaki’s hold, but was unsuccessful. Funaki demanded that Rhyno submit and cede his title, or else he would slice Rhyno’s throat. Michael Cole looked on in horror for several tense moments. However, Rhyno, with a roar, slammed himself backwards, crushing Funaki against the cement wall. The sword clattered to the floor and Rhyno and Funaki crumpled on the concrete. Michael Cole stared for a few moments and slowly knelt down, gently putting his hand on Rhyno’s unconscious chest as the ref began to count to three.</p><p> </p><p>

One… two… and Rhyno’s hand shot up, grabbing Michael Cole. Cole yelped in fear as Rhyno choked him for several moments and then threw Cole into a pile of lighting boxes.</p><p> </p><p>

After commercial, Vince was pacing around. Shane strolled in and caused his father no end of irritation by saying, “Hi Pops.”</p><p> </p><p>

Vince, jolted out of his thought process, shouted “DAMMIT, SHANE.”</p><p> </p><p>

“What’s going on?”</p><p> </p><p>

“Not that it’s any of your damned business – “</p><p> </p><p>

“- except it is, since I am a 10% owner of the company – “</p><p> </p><p>

“ – but I’m trying to decide who will face Edge on Smackdown for his punishment. I’m thinking Rhyno.”</p><p> </p><p>

“That’s a great idea. Although… well, never mind. See you later.”</p><p> </p><p>

Vince’s curiosity was piqued. “Wait wait. What were you going to say?”</p><p> </p><p>

“Oh it’s really not any of my business.”</p><p> </p><p>

“DAMMIT SHANE!”</p><p> </p><p>

“I was just thinking, you know, that Rhyno is a great Hardcore Champion, but he’s so untested in a big match setting. I’d hate for Edge to come out on top. I’ll be seeing you.”</p><p> </p><p>

Shane left. Vince stood thinking for a few moments, and when a ref walked by he grabbed their arm.</p><p> </p><p>

“Tell Rhyno that I want him to issue an open challenge tonight for an opponent.”</p><p> </p><p>

Wilson was looking to regain some momentum after her match on Smackdown, but Lita was an unrelenting and unstoppable force. In just four minutes, she royally devastated Wilson, forcing a pin with her high-flying arsenal.</p><p> </p><p>

Rhyno came out and gave a rare promo. “I defend this title all over the world. In hallways, in restrooms, in hotels, planes, trains. But tonight, the boss says it’s time to defend this right here in the ring. So who’s left? Who thinks they can pin me?</p><p> </p><p>

From the crowd, a voice shouted. “How about me?” Over the barricade climbed a tall tree of a man in a WCW t-shirt.</p><p> </p><p>

“Who the hell are you?” Rhyno asked.</p><p> </p><p>

Rhyno was totally unprepared for a new opponents, especially a behemoth like Awesome. Awesome was brutal, bringing a chair to the ring immediately. Rhyno tried to fight back, seeking out trash cans from under the ring, but Awesome seemed completely ready for all eventualities. Eventually, Awesome grabbed the belt and wrapped it around Rhyno’s face, spinning him into the post face first. He quickly crawled under the ring and pulled out one of the classic metal “W”’s from the WCW set and ran it into Rhyno, who fell to the mat. It was over. WCW had stolen a belt in just 8 minutes.</p><p> </p><p>

“DAMMIT, DAMMIT, DAMMIT!” Vince yelled incredulously. He knocked a monitor off of its cart, ruining it. “Who else is here? I swear to God Edge is going to be buried in the dirt.”</p><p> </p><p>

Big Show stepped up behind Vince and tapped him on the shoulder. Vince spun around and looked up.</p><p> </p><p>

“Show! Just the man I wanted to see. I need someone to utterly destroy Edge, and you’re just the man for the job.” He patted Big Show on the arm.</p><p> </p><p>

Show looked at his recently touched bicep. “No.”</p><p> </p><p>

“What do you mean ‘no’?”</p><p> </p><p>

“What’s in it for me?”</p><p> </p><p>

“It’s a free win, dammit! Gets you back on track. Gives you momentum.”</p><p> </p><p>

“I’m on track. I don’t need your momentum. So… what’s in it for me?”</p><p> </p><p>

Vince rolled his eyes. “What do you want?”</p><p> </p><p>

“A title match.”</p><p> </p><p>

Vince paused for a moment. “Hmm. Okay. Okay. How about this: you beat Edge on Thursday, and I’ll guarantee you a match against Matt Hardy for the European Title at Judgment Day.”</p><p> </p><p>

Show stuck out his hand. “Sounds like a deal.”</p><p> </p><p>

Vince shook.</p><p> </p><p>

As Taker entered the ring, he looked at Christian, and he seemed to pity that the poor young man had been put in this match due to Vince’s vindictive attitude. He gave a slight shrug to Christian, and the two’s eyes met with understanding. The bell rang, however, and Christian immediately began fighting for his life. Taker seemed almost taken aback. Of course, the shock wore off, and Taker began to come back with a vengeance. But Christian wouldn’t be put down For 15 long minutes, Christian kicked out of pin after pin after pin, and Taker only was able to put him down with his old standby, the Tombstone. </p><p> </p><p>

Taker rolled over after the pin and sat for a few moments. The normally gruff Taker watched as Vince came out to the top of the ramp and laughed in maniacal glee at his successful revenge against Christian. Taker turned to Christian and… stuck out his hand.</p><p> </p><p>

Christian, clutching his neck, was surprised. However, he accepted the hand and came to his feet. For a brief moment, the hands shook, and Taker gave a nod. The he climbed out of the ring and began walking purposefully up the ring to his music. Vince took one look and ran.</p><p> </p><p>

Backstage, Chris Jericho confronted Regal in the locker room.</p><p> </p><p>

“I want a rematch, Regal.”</p><p> </p><p>

Regal laughed without looking up. “With whom? Billy Gunn?”</p><p> </p><p>

Jericho narrowed his eyes. “Do I look stupid to you? Do I look like an idiot?”</p><p> </p><p>

Regal looked up from his boots. “Surely you can’t be serious.”</p><p> </p><p>

“Damn right I am. You and I have unfinished business. I want a match. No stipulations. No Queensbury rules or Canadian rules or whatever the hell you think you can come up with. Just you and me in the ring.”</p><p> </p><p>

“Why in God’s name would I accept that?”</p><p> </p><p>

“Because your terms as Commissioner is up in two weeks. And because I just spoke with Stephanie McMahon; I have a foot in the door, Willie.”</p><p> </p><p>

“What are you insinuating?”</p><p> </p><p>

“I’m insinuating that in two weeks your term ends, and suddenly you might find yourself in marathon after marathon of grueling matches, brought to you by yours truly. But… I could be persuaded to cede my claim on your job and put that claim on the line in a match.”</p><p> </p><p>

“I guess I don’t have much choice, do I?”</p><p> </p><p>

“Well you do. You could choose to do the match, or you could prove you’re a coward and run away.”</p><p>

Godfather and Rock vs. Val Venis and Steven Richards</strong></p><p><strong>

The Rock was in fine form, but once he tagged the Godfather in, it became a story about how the form member of Right to Censor would deal with his ex-compatriots. When he began to gain the upper hand on Val Venis, Ivory (who was at ringside) had her other dog Bull Buchanan slide into the ring, and the three male members of Right to Censor began to stomp Godfather into oblivion as the Rock quickly climbed in and put down the RtC. The match was blown off as a double DQ in 8:03.</p><p> </p><p>

WWF Tag Team Titles Match: The Two-Man Power Trip vs. Diamond Dallas Page and Booker T</strong></p><p><strong>

The Power Trip entered the ring and waited impatiently as their opponents didn’t appear. Austin began to laugh with Triple H as they assumed there was a no-show. Suddenly, the Titantron let out a “BANG!” as DDP’s voice rang out and WCW logo blared across the arena in red lettering. Booker and DDP slid in from behind Austin and Trips as the ref called for the bell to ring. A brief brawl sent the crowd crazy before the ref saw order restored. Austin and Triple H quickly realized that WCW was a true threat. No one had ever scouted these guys. No one had ever bothered to watch their matches, learn their strategies, study their techniques. And suddenly, two of the biggest icons from down south were destroying Triple H. But Austin was out for blood, and when he received a hot tag, he ran roughshod over DDP. Page was able to eventually make it back to Booker and soon Booker was blindsiding Austin with his agile, speedy offense. And just when it looked like Booker might take the win at 15:02, the lights went out. </p><p> </p><p>

And then, when the lights came back on, Kane and Taker were in the ring, giving Austin and double chokeslam. Booker went to climb in the ring, angry at the DQ, but DDP help up his hand, cautioning Booker to wait.</p><p> </p><p>

Triple H climbed in, but Kane dragged him out of the ring and put him through an announcer’s table. Taker picked up a mic. “I’m not your errand boy, McMahon. I’m no one’s foot soldier.”</p><p> </p><p>

Taker and Kane climbed in the ring, stared for several long moments at DDP and Booker, then left. Booker and DDP stared at each other, then DDP picked up a mic.</p><p> </p><p>

“What kind of cotton candy-ass promotion is this? Run-ins? Title matches with important stipulations ending inconclusively? A leader of a major company who can’t keep his talent in order, constantly interfering in the affairs of his workers? I thought this was WWF. World WRESTLING Federation. </p><p> </p><p>

“My point is, get your house in order. Because, as far as I can tell, we’ve still got a title match. Booker?”</p><p> </p><p>

Booker grabbed the mic. “We comin’ for YOU, Vince!”</p><p> </p><p>

Smackdown Preview</strong></p><p><strong>

Second Week of May, 2001</strong></p><p><strong>

</strong></p></div><p></p><p>

Excerpt from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter by Dave Meltzer:</p><p> </p><p>

<span style="font-family:'Courier New';">"A surprisingly strong main event saw a sizable ratings increase for RAW this week, and there's a definite draw to the 'who's next' attitude being taken with WCW. For now, though, don't expect further WCW signings until June. The attention is firmly being placed on Booker T and DDP for now, although Mike Awesome will likely figure into a major upper midcard feud.</span></p><p><span style="font-family:'Courier New';"> </span></p><p><span style="font-family:'Courier New';">

"In the meantime, The Two-Man Power Trip storyline has changed multiple times over the last week with Creative. Possibilities currently even include a Tag Team Triple Threat match at Judgment Day, but we'll see about that.</span></p><p><span style="font-family:'Courier New';"> </span></p><p><span style="font-family:'Courier New';">

"As for Smackdown, Booker and DDP will likely have another tag match, and we should see a new #1 Contender for the Women's Title."</span></p><p><span style="font-family:'Courier New';">
