Discuss The Mod Squad

Recommended Posts

I thought I'd take the time to clear some things up, after today's forum drama I thought it might help...

I'll make some points in bullet form so this doesn't end up longer than it has to be...

* I've been making mods since 2005, I've always had help whether large or small I've worked with friends from the very beginning.

* The Mod Squad is a silly name we decided via a dodgy vote, I think "Deez Nutz' came in second. That's how serious we take this "Squad"

* The team isn't new, most of us especially the core (BurningHamster, BigPapa, Jaysin, Tsu, MrCreative and more) and I have worked together and or helped each other in some way or form for years now.

* The group was made so communication would be easier, which it now is.

* Our group conversation naturally consists of mod type talk, the rest is made up predominantly of arguments... usually about trivial stats or opinions

* Never have I ever witnessed (I created the chat and have never left) any form of gang mentality or anything along the lines of "Let's attack this person, or diary or mod... or whatever", I and others in the group wouldn't stand for it even if it ever did happen.

* Our one and only motto has always been "Just have fun"

* After I left and stopped modding I returned for TEW 16, after chatting with some old friends here I decided to give the group an official name for fun and

recruit some good people to add to our work. The Mod Squad was given it's name nothing had changed except now we used this silly name... oh and Togg made a cool looking logo.... none of us got jackets (as hard as I pushed for them.... they would've had my face on them!)... nothing at all changed except we added the name.

* For some reason I'm yet to understand (I've asked many times directly and indirectly) some people on GDS took the Mod Squad as a kliq, or bad bunch of guys trying to control mods... Two near quotes I've heard several times thrown around.

* We're not a zerg or combined force, we're all still the same members who've been posting since 2005.

* If I wanted to control all the mods I wouldn't be saying yes to every single person who's ever asked me for any and all of my work to use.... Every single modder on here Alv, HammerGlen, MattShannon, Hive, Fleisch, Justtxyank, BurningHamster, Mildy Amusing, anyone who's ever asked have I not only said yes but I've always offered to help in any way possible any many times have as they have always done with me. The claim of me or the group wanting to control anything given the history and events is beyond ridiculous, borderline insulting and for people who receive literally no reward for their work, quite disheartening.

* I created the Mission Statement nearly ten years ago here on GDS, I was the first to do so. I did so at a time when most mods were not freeware and the topic was hotly debated, dividing a lot of the community. Mods dried up severely, the community suffered. Some mods were even going the "Pay to play" route, I publicly refused any payment model and outed the member that was trying to pay me for mod exclusivity. I created the first Mission Statement thread as a direct result, it's sole purpose can still be read and seen today. To create as many mods and options as possible for TEW and the GDS community, the project was a mild success but never reached even half of our goal. Infighting, stupidity and egos killed it, I tried for nearly 5 years straight and failed. The group we have now has already surpassed my original mission statement project and we still have many mods to go.

* We created the Nexus forums to open up our mods and work and team to everyone and anyone who wanted to join in. That was always the plan. The plan from day one discussed by us was to provide another place for TEW players to post and enjoy a community while opening up all of our discussion etc to everyone. The forums also provide us with a place that allows several features gds can't due to legal restrictions. We can embed video files with mod releases, present better, keep track better, organise better and more. We didn't want to keep it private, we opened it up to everyone and made it clear why we did so.

* I and others in the group do this for fun, the reason I left the last time and stopped modding was it wasn't fun anymore. Trolls, false beyond ridiculous

claims and other bs make it not fun. I don't understand why others go out of their way to make it not fun for modders.

* I've been modding for Civ and TES3 for about the same time I have been for TEW and I've never in any other community seen conduct and vitriol I've witnessed here. I would really like to better understand it all and fix it if possible. Not just for us but for all modders on gds, even ones who never started because of the vitriol I mentioned.

* Sorry /end rant

Feel free to discuss, please keep it civil. I hope this thread can clear up as much as possible about any misconceptions and anything else :)

<p>Wait... so you've been plotting with your band of villainous cohorts to single handedly control all the Mods in the Kingdom of Greydogsville? I'm a little bit insulted that you have not tried a hostile takeover or invasion of any of my mods. This sort of disrespect shall not be tolerated, and just like Sting attempted to do to the nWo, I shall thwart your attempts at Mod domination and drive you from these here parts (unknown) to the fiery pits of hell!</p><p> </p><p>

An Evil organisation such as the Mod Squad should not be allowed to thrive or prosper, they should be cut down before it is too late. I shall see you on the Battlefield Genadi... and bring your devious band of merry men! <img alt=":p" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/tongue.png.ceb643b2956793497cef30b0e944be28.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p>

In all seriousness though, I've no idea what has gone on that you felt you had to post this up as I'm pretty sure most people here appreciate what you and your friends have done for the modding community. WCW Lives is still one of my favourite mods - to the point I attempted to update it and give it my own twist... failing miserably in the process.</p>

I've been around for a long time, just look at my join date Aug 2005 and I've never seen so many mods come out so soon after a games released so I think we should all thank The Mod Squad guys and be grateful that they take time out of their lives to make these mods for us. So thank you and I look forward to what comes next. <img alt=":)" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/smile.png.142cfa0a1cd2925c0463c1d00f499df2.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

<p>I've been around modding since possibly 08...maybe 05...giving assistance to DaBoon on the DOTT Mod. We had a wee forum then and that made things easy as social media was nothing like it is now. From there I would just offer help to anyone on the UK scene and Europe. Sometimes things went in, sometimes I just went off and edited mods for my own purposes and played them. I'd do the same with the other game areas. </p><p> </p><p>

TEW 13 saw me pushing things a bit more, again some looked to use it and others didn't. No big deal as I've seen very few UK or Europe diaries and understandably so really. 16 has become a different beast though and I've pushed myself I suppose to get UK and Europe up there with regards content and playability. So the hours trawling wrestlingdata and cagematch (so often wrong for UK data), youtube, the old British Wrestling Results archive, foreign wrestling forums and various Way Back Machine searches has now in my opinion given Mod users a far better overall world to play in. Fair enough some work is shared around and Dev of 91/94 saw workers added who could have been in 87, but if you're working on so many that'll happen. </p><p> </p><p>

Having a group/resource to fall back on has also been very useful. Workarounds can be discussed, the possibility of cobbling things together and then just the journey that takes you from London to Texas to Japan and finally Paris whereby the initial search for a worker brings you 19 workers, a new promotion and an evening of cutting pics and logos.</p><p> </p><p>

I look upon the GDS community as very much like the UK wrestling scene. In 01 when I looked to promote there was no help, a lot of political bs and it was all learn by the day. Now if you want to promote in the UK you have so many avenues, so many ways to get experience first and assist instead. If it was like this in 01, I'd possibly never have even considered going it alone. Likewise with TEW, Modders don't need to go through the crap now of sourcing data, it's all either there or a conversation away. Embrace how much easier it is, be respectful and take your time.</p>
