TEW 2016 "How To Book Company X"

Recommended Posts

Let's try to get something going here.

As someone who only ownes TEW 2016 and played it for a few months, I'm still not very good at booking certain companies and certain products, and I'm sure that's the case with more users. So instead of only trial and error, how about some of the more experienced users help newer ones to book a company? And I know that there's an index for companies, but it's only C-Verse ones, not real world.

So to start off, I just started a WWF save in The Art Of War mod (1998), and I'm not too sure what storylines to run, especially for the tag team titles (held by New Age Outlaws), who should win the KOTR and how to book it, and what to do with the Light Heavy and European titles. Also, I'd love to start a women's division but there aren't many options in the wrestling world at that time, so if anyone knows of a few gems hiding in the database that'll really help.

<p>Not quite sure on what your requesting. If you want help coming up with storylines and such, the "Booking Committee" thread might be helpful and really what its intended for. If you are looking more for help with understand the mechanics of how to book the WWF, realize that its a popularity based company and advice that applies to most popularity based companies will generally work. two other suggestions... Any real world historical mod worth its salt (and Art of War certainly is) will emulate the major companies fairly well, and looking at what the WWF was actually doing is a great starting point. Second thing is to look at some diaries. The great thing about the WWE is that the fundamentals of the product (in TEW terms) hasn't changed massively, so in many ways, you can use a similar approach to someone booking the late 80s or the mid 00s and still see results. </p><p> </p><p>

The key with TEW is understanding the product. And the WWF is a popularity based product, which in many ways is as easy as it gets. Especially with a strong starting point, which the WWE in this era certainly has. Popularity is what is going to get you strong grades. Fans want to see the most popular workers, so give them to them. Your main guys should be on every show (except a B show) in some way - working a match, cutting a promo, etc. With really popular workers, throw-together tag matches can make for great main events (like the WWF did a lot back then). Your not going to get strong grades for stuff built around midcarders and lower card guys. So don't get discouraged if your Edge push storyline is kinda weak at the start. The fans don't care about him yet so the grades reflect that. But with a strong top of the card, some weaker grades in the middle don't hurt much and someone like Edge (or Angle, or whoever) can be built up fairly quick. Not pushing them too quick and too hard is probably the bigger concern. </p><p> </p><p>

Building a women's division is always a bit of a challenge, but moreso in this era where there aren't tons of talented female grapplers outside of Japan. The way the WWF did it was to use sex appeal to build up the popular of a few workers (who were not great in the ring) and gradually add some better workers. Look at the Sable story arc. do something similar for 2 or 3 great looking ladies while you have a few others in development and build from there. Expect it to take some time, though.</p>

Same companies same wrestlers so hence why that's been set up.</p><p> </p><p> You're best place would be the booking Committee thread really if you're looking for ideas</p>

This thread title is a bit misleading in that regard and not specific to the company, which may keep people from reading and contributing. </p><p> </p><p> A key reason why that doesn't already exist is that each real world company covers a broad swath of time. Even two real world mods with the same starting point can differ notably due to how workers are rated. As I mentioned, the WWF/E has always been a popularity based company so some fundamentals are always there. But running the company in 1996 is going to be vastly different than in 1998. </p><p> </p><p> Mod-specific threads used to be good for conversation / questions / suggestions for that mod and companies it contained.</p>

<p>Two things.</p><p> </p><p>

To the original poster, I applaud the spirit of what you have in mind here. I'm a big fan of trying to find the gap and filling it in this game. But as others have pointed out, it's not really possible with the real world mods because each one's different and the advice might differ depending on which mod you're using.</p><p> </p><p>

To everybody else, a question. Am I the only one who sees this thread title and wants to call his next save Company X? <img alt=":)" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/smile.png.142cfa0a1cd2925c0463c1d00f499df2.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p>

thanks for the help, but about the booking comittee, I know it's a thing, but I want to just have a thread about how is best to run each real world company, like the CVerse ones have.

I haven't posted in a while, but thought I'd chime in.

First, your question is a bit difficult to answer, but also has a simplier answer. The problem is that every mod is setup differently. Everything from the company ratings for the various styles (lucha, hardcore, traditional, etc) as well as how those styles appear in a region can vary. All of that can change how a company needs to be booked.

However, there are some ways to set up the foundation of your company and booking.

Just look at a few things

Performance v Popularity

This is probably the most confusing at first but once you understand it, booking becomes a lot easier. I'd disagree with the main poster a bit on which is easier to book. I've found that Performance is far easier as you just have to find 2 wrestlers with high scores in the right top line skills as well as the main performance ones and you can have a great match. It can be difficult to run a smaller company, but once you reach a certain size its all about trying to match A level skills.

Popularity can be a bit harder for a smaller company as popular wrestlers can be expensive to hire, but you just need a high popularity on one wrestler and a matchup that isn't awkward to put together decent matches. 2 high popularity wrestlers can really blow the roof off if things go well.

Style does Matter

Most mods are set up so that Lucha is popular in Mexico and some form of Puroresu is popular in Japan while comedy is often unpopular just about everywhere. This is important as matching the match style with the interests of the fans can boost ratings. If the region isn't that into hardcore you might not want to have a 30-minute death match as your main event as the fans would grow bored. But in Mexico a 3-man tag Lucha match will usually go over quite well as long as you have a good match. (skills, popularity.)

Storylines are your friend.

They aren't always required, but they help not only remember who you want to match up, but in a environment where they are allowed you can use promos, back stage attacks and run-ins to build up interest in the two wrestlers meeting in the ring. There are no real requirements though. Come up with your own ideas and run with it, just remember to play to the audience.

Beyond that its going to be a bit of trial and error and learning what works for you. Every person playing will have their own prejudices and quirks when it comes to who to hire, who to push, what matches to have, how long a main event is to be, etc. There is no one perfect way. I've had a formula that works for me fail someone else because they couldn't really grasp how I made some of my decisions, while there are some people who describe a booking system that makes me cringe, but both work.
