Yeah, I'm going to post a roster evaluation before the first show, but my initial impression of MAW is the 'bland leading the bland.' One wrestler that I think would be a perfect fit is Ernest Youngman, but even at only $800 to $900 per show, he might be too expensive.

The tournaments are also a killer financially, if it's made into a COTT-wide tournament (which we are doing), but hopefully I can find a way to keep going past the usual 2017 expiration date. Still, I'm becoming attached to some members of the roster (Greg Gauge looks like a true star), so that will hopefully be enough to motivate Marvin to make the most out of this opportunity

Financials can devastate you with MAW. I wouldn't get too attached to Mr. Gauge, he tends to get snapped up quickly. And, he doesn't come cheap.

The Architect remains my favorite and also a crowd favorite [as in, the Dynasty Message Board] wrestler on the starting MAW roster. I'd check some of the old '13 threads with him in it-- particularly Emerald Pro Wrestling.

I've had success with Gidayu "The Lariat" Katou. Typically, I keep an eye on new Japanese talents that go on excursion, and pick up whoever ends up stateside.

ACPW has some great, cheap talent that will gain experience working on both rosters. Katou Freak and Little Dragon have potential to burn and tag experience. I'd consider signing Princeton Pryce or Marcel LeFleur -- both have pretty good SQ and decent top row stats.

In '16, a lot depends on in-game variables, and each save will be different. Go for unemployed workers and see who will either lose or gain a weight class to boost their SQ -- sometimes you can go from a B- to an A with a good RNG.

Seth & Logan would be a good for as well maybe Kid Fantastic when his arm is healed up. I always bring back Youngblood and Max as well as Riley good solid basics and teachers for the young guys.

Have you tried Felipe Caballero and Samael The Accuser [AKA Achilles The Mighty] from Mexico? Both start with next to no pop in any region, so they shouldn't cost more than $400 PPA.

Yup Caballero is good can switch between heel and Face I use him a lot in my games when I do 0000 game and open up MHW. Never really got into Accuser more of a Martyr guy lol

Thank you both for the suggestions. To be honest, the only young male wrestlers I am even a little bit familiar with in the C-Verse are Logan (already sent out a contract offer), The Architect (can't wait to write him so I'll definitely have to check out those past diaries), and Austin Smooth, so this type of feedback is more than welcome.

Seth seems like a good, cheap pick up with a different look than the rest of MAW, so he will probably get signed once I have a good handle on the finances of the company. I've gotten the 'no spot monkey' owner goal from Sam, so no Kid Fantastic for now, unfortunately (no psychopaths too).

I'll cover this in the roster overview, but I've been thinking of signing another veteran, and I'm leaning towards Ace after this suggestion on the backstage influence alone. Kashmir Singh was my initial thought, but he looks to be prohibitively expensive.

The tag division probably needs at least one more team, and Freaky Dragon looks like a good fit, so thank you for that too.

I'm not sure how much bigger the roster can be (it's at 20 to start, and I'd like to keep it around the minimum of 16), but ACPW does have a lot of good workers (Ant-Man would be fun to bring in). I thought about keeping to MAW's hiring rules of unemployed workers only, but I've violated that with Logan already, so oh well.

Felipe looks like he would be a good addition too (the performance over pop product is going to take some getting used to). For Samael, that render might give me nightmares, so I might just bring him in under his real name and a different picture.

Hopefully Gauge will be around long enough for what I've got planned for him, but thanks for the tip as I'll make sure to leave myself some storyline outs along the way. :)

I've had some success with Romeo Romaro and Remmy Honeyman. Quickly looking through the database, Riley McManus looks like a great pickup at around $600.

Mark Smart is a name I see used a lot in this role. His "gimmick" is fun to write for too.

In the locker room, Fox Mask is holding a very fancy looking letter with printed letters on it: “Rip Chord Invitational”. He nods and smiles, looking hyped at the prospect of representing CZCW in the alliance wide tournament organized by MAW. He’s in his own world, not noticing when Frankie Perez shows up from behind him, snatching the letter out of his hand. </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

“Thanks buddy, I was waiting for that, glad it finally arrived,” Frankie says over his shoulder to Fox Mask who does not talk, but emotes a “what the hell?”, and grabs Frankie’s shoulder, turning him around. Fox Mask stare is intense.</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

“Hey man, calm down, I understand you want to congratulate me, but it’s no big deal really…” Frankie says, genuinely seeming oblivious at his misunderstanding. Fox Mask has no patience for it though and give Frankie a hard push against a locker, which at least makes Frankie realize Fox Mask’s state of mind, if not the cause of his irritation. At this point he does not particularly care, and instead decide to fight back, and a full on brawl break out in the locker room, causing an incredible ruckus. </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

The fight ends when Dylan Sidle, the road agent steps into the locker room.</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</div></div></div><div style="text-align:center;"><span>http://i.imgur.com/4TYufZn.jpg</span><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</div></div></div></div><p></p><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">“Guys, guys! Knock it off,” he says, picking up the letter from the floor. </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

“Who does this belong to?” Dylan looks to the two. Fox Mask emotes to himself. </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

“It’s mine,” Frankie says like it’s self-evident. Fox Mask shakes his head, showing very clearly he disagrees.</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

“Huh. Well, that’s a dilemma. I don’t know how we solve this,” Dylan says, looking at the letter, finding no name identifying its owner. Fox Mask rolls his eyes and make boxing gestures at Frankie, who for once seem to understand Fox Mask. “Oh yeah. We can fight for it. They obviously want the better fighter, which is why they SENT IT TO ME, but I’m not afraid to prove my worth.” </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Dylan looks satisfied with the solution, and says. “Alright then. I’ll let Cliff know to put you on the card.” </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</div></div></div></div><p></p><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">She steps out on the entrance way, taking in the reaction from the thousands of fans in the arena welcoming her back with calls of “J-Ro, J-Ro”. Smiling she walks down to the ring where Cliff Anderson has stepped out from behind his announce table with the lovely Willow at his side holding an enormous bouquet of flowers. As she steps into the ring, Cliff says, “Let me present, CZCW alumni, the one and only, Joanne Rodriguez!”</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Joanne continues to soak up the love from the crowd and Willow hands over the flowers, a task she looks moderately interested in seemingly having been roped in from her usual managerial duties, when the celebration is interrupted by a 2Pac’s Loyal to the Game and Waylon Walls walk down to the ring with his Xtreme title belt around his waist and a dark look over his face. </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</div></div></div></div><p></p><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">He grabs a microphone out of Willow’s hand and turns to Cliff.</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

“I can’t believe you didn’t at least consult with your champions about a thing like this, Cliff. So what’s the plan? A whole women’s division, cutting into an already packed card, making nobody happy?”</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Cliff looks clearly unhappy about the interruption, but is composed as he answers.</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

“No, Waylon. We will do it just the way we did it back then. Women competing with men, on the same terms as anyone else.”</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Waylon rolls his eyes theatrically. </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

“Because that went *so* well last time that your dear J-Ro here packed her bags and left and you quietly sent the other female wrestlers out the door because they couldn’t hang. And frankly, I bet the same goes for your mascot here.”</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Having listened to Waylon’s complaints quietly, Joanne turns to Cliff. </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

“I’m sorry but who is this guy? I know he doesn’t *actually* own the place.”</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Waylon does not look pleased with the diss, and menacingly leans in toward J-Ro. </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

“Who am I? I am Waylon Walls, I run the streets of these hoods, I am the Xtreme champion, I am the Wall of Pain. If these really were your hoods, you would have to have skipped class if you don’t know that.”</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Joanne puts a hand on her hip. “That’s a very touching storry. I did grow up in these hoods as you say, but I grew up and moved on with my life. That class you mentioned, I’m sorry but I must have been busy wrestling in Tokyo Stadium that day.”</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

“You think you’re so special, don’t you? Wrestling in fancy arenas, too good for CZCW are you? But coming back here was a mistake, and you would realize it if you dared step into the ring with someone like me.”</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

“Is that a challenge? I’m not afraid of you. Put that title on the line and I’m ready to go.” </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Waylon shakes his head. “I have no reason to put my title on the line just to make an example out of you. I’ll give you a non-title match if you like.”</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

“That sounds like a chicken's excuse to me. You want to make an example to me, but you're too afraid to put your title on the line. No way. It has to be for the title. I don’t like walking down to the ring without gold around my waist. Makes me feel naked," she says with a wink. </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Waylon clenches his fists. "I'm *NOT* afraid of a small woman. I'll put my title on the line, but it's not fair that I am the only one risking something. If you think you're so good, put your contract against my title. It's no big deal. I'm sure you can go back to wrestle small Japanese girls once we have ripped your contract in two." </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Joanne listens to his proposal, then nods quietly. "My contract with CZCW means everything to me, but I have nothing else to wager. I accept."</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

While Joanne seems to take the risky wager calmly, Cliff Anderson looks alarmed. “Your contract? I signed you to a big contract to elevate this company, you’d risk it for a title shot? I’m sure your opportunities will come anyway. Jo, it’s not worth it!”</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

She turns to him, shaking her head. “In a roundabout way, Waylon has a point. If I can’t hang with a guy like him, I shouldn’t be here. Better to go big, sink or swim. Shoot for the stars, all that jazz.”</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Waylon grins a toothy grin. “Alright, I get to kick Joanne Rodriguez out of CZCW.”</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Cliff looks like someone had backed into his favorite Corvette. “Fine, but I make one stipulation. It is a 30-minute match. I’ll only annull your contract if you lose. Hold out for 30 minutes, and you are a full member of the CZCW roster.</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Joanne shrugs. “Fine with me. Joanne Rodriguez, Xtreme Champion...yeah, it has a nice ring to it.” </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

One small move at a time, she claws her way back into the match with trips and select moves that use Waylon’s mass against him. At the beginning of the match, Joanne optimistically tried a Tiger Suplex which failed miserably as Waylon just planted himself in place. The climax of the match culminates with a sequence where Joanne again goes for the Tiger Suplex, this time hitting it on a much weakened Waylon, followed by the J-Rocker, a face crusher out of a front facelock. She pins him, and the referee counts him out, 1-2-3, and there is a new Xtreme champion.</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Waylon rolls out of the ring, leaving Joanne alone to celebrate her victory. The fight taken out of him, he looks stunned more than anything as he makes his way out, nursing his neck. Meanwhile, Joanne is climbing the turnbuckles, holding her title in the air, celebrating her win. </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Opener: </div></div><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><strong>Air Attack Weasel</strong></div></div><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> vs American Flash vs Bullseye vs Jonnie Perez Fatal 4-way</div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</div></div><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><em>American Flash debuted a poor “clean cut” gimmick replacing his old awful gimmick. Not a good evening for American Flash overall, though his ring performance was quite good, up there with Air Attack Weasel. </em></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Match 2: </div></div><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><strong>Rich and Famous</strong></div></div><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> vs Notorious (Tag Team Contenders Match)</div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</div></div><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><em>Rich and Famous acquitted themselves well, especially Jackpot Jordan. Notorious struggled a bit.</em></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Match 3: </div></div><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><strong>Going Coastal</strong></div></div><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> vs The Wild Cats © (Tag Team Titles Match)</div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</div></div><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><em>First title change in a pretty solid match. I booked this section of the show pretty poorly, this could probably have been match of the night otherwise. Some stellar performances from CLM and Tigre Salvaje Jr, but nobody disappointed.</em></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Match 4:</div></div><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><strong> Joanne Rodriguez</strong></div></div><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> vs Challenger aka Waylon Walls</div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</div></div><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><em>Putting a title on my UC the first thing I do? Self-indulgent? Maybe… I figured putting the secondary title on J-Ro right off the bat puts her right in the middle of things, and she’s a good enough worker that she can help anyone have a good match, even Waylon. Well, maybe not Waylon, but at least his shortcomings didn’t show so glaringly.</em></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</div></div><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><em>Match of the night, Fox Mask and Frankie Perez certainly delivered, and it will be a good start to a little feud between the two.</em></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</div></div><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><em>Even though I didn’t really consider putting the title on Matt Sparrow, I started to feel a certain affinity for the character, and if I can do justice to a rambling bird-crazed madman, I think I will enjoy writing him in the future. </em></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><em>

</em></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</div></div><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><strong>Bonus:</strong></div></div><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> Who is Joanne Rodriguez' challenger and what are the agreed stakes? </div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</div></div><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><em>Xtreme champion Waylon Walls, putting his Xtreme title on the line against Joanne’s contract. <p>MAW: The Roster Review</p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><strong>*In Sam Keith's office at Stanley Hall, Marvin Earnest sits across from the owner of MAW in the midst of a long discussion about the company's future*</strong></div></div><p></p><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</div><div style="text-align:center;"><span>http://i.imgur.com/0Cv3SXL.jpg</span></div><p></p><p></p><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;">

“So, tell me, Marv. Now that you’ve been the booker for almost a month, what do you think of the roster?”</div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</div><div style="text-align:center;"><span>http://i.imgur.com/zwcBUN0.jpg</span></div><p></p><p></p><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;">

What do I think of the roster? That’s a loaded question if I’ve ever heard one. How do you tell your boss his eye for talent sucks?</div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;">

It wasn’t too long ago, five years to be precise, that the Mid Atlantic Boot Camp was a sought after training program for young men looking to get into the business. Potential stars like Casey Valentine and Jay Chord honed their craft under the roof of Stanley Hall, while Rip Chord managed to turn Nelson Callum, Antonio Del Veccio and Cameron Jones into good hands.</div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Now, we’re getting the bottom of the barrel. Our biggest problem is that the only reason trainees sign up for the Boot Camp is that it guarantees a contract with MAW if you graduate. Well, the really hungry wrestlers, they don’t want a guarantee of mediocrity, they want to be the best. God love Sam, but he’s just too generous to be mean enough to ever draw out the best in anyone, and the rest of the world knows it.</div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;">

At this point, we’re the bland leading the bland, and that’s got to stop. I just don’t know how to tell the big dope.</div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

What do I think of the roster? Here’s the truth…</div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</div></div><div style="text-align:center;"><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="text-decoration:underline;"><strong>Main Eventers</strong></span></div></div></div><p></p><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</div></div><div style="text-align:center;"><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><strong>Greg Gauge (26 years old; PPA $1,200; E- popularity in Mid Atlantic Region)</strong></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</div></div><span>http://i.imgur.com/vlbBM7H.jpg</span></div><p></p><p></p><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

To Greg’s credit, he’s the real deal, better than his twin brother Matthew in many ways. Chief among those is his desire to make a name for himself, which is why he didn’t try to piggyback off of his dad’s stage name. Of course, that’s precisely why BHOTWG signed his brother to a written deal instead of him.</div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Yep, Greg checks all the boxes: great on the mic, good on the mat, can brawl even; it’s a shame his dad won’t let him go heel. I’ve seen the kid in promo class, and he’s a natural asshole. There’s a lot of money to be made in building him as the guy people will pay to see get beat up, but Sam wants his son to be the all-conquering hero, and I’ve been in the business long enough to have learned when to pick my battles.</div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</div></div><div style="text-align:center;"><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><strong>James “Cheetah Boy” Neil (33 years old; PPA $1,000; E popularity)</strong></div></div></div><p></p><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</div></div><div style="text-align:center;"><span>http://i.imgur.com/sBIcJht.jpg</span></div><p></p><p></p><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

The lone veteran on the roster (we really should look into get at least one more, how the hell are these young guys supposed to learn just fighting each other?), James has probably the craziest look that’s ever been allowed in MAW. Relatively harmless as an aging high flier, his biggest asset is his positive attitude backstage, and that alone is worth keeping him around, for now.</div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</div></div><div style="text-align:center;"><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><strong>Cameron Jones (25 years old; PPA $800; E- popularity)</strong></div></div></div><p></p><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</div></div><div style="text-align:center;"><span>http://i.imgur.com/PRjA9nT.jpg</span></div><p></p><p></p><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

One half of the three-time tag team champions, the Dynamite Express, Cameron (no I won’t call him J-Man) is one of the last graduates of the Boot Camp trained by Rip Chord. Solid in the ring and on the mic, at his young age, he seems destined for a lot more than tag team gold, but every time it looks like he’s going to break out for a singles run, the lack of quality in the tag division drags him back down. A feud with a veteran team would really serve both him and his partner, Syd Collier, well.</div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</div></div><div style="text-align:center;"><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><strong>

George Wolfe (24 years old; PPA $700; E- popularity)</strong></div></div></div><p></p><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</div></div><div style="text-align:center;"><span>http://i.imgur.com/mBmWHdu.jpg</span></div><p></p><p></p><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

And we come to the meathead. There’s nothing wrong with the kid, per se, after all his father, Ed, had a pretty good career in CGC using largely the same style, but George’s offense isn’t really my cup of tea. Oh sure, I enjoy a good brawl as much as the next man, but this kid doesn’t know an armbar from a candy bar. There’s only so much a wrestler without much charisma can do to get over through punches and clotheslines before he gets stale, but who knows, maybe he’ll surprise me by actually learning a thing or two while here.</div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</div></div><div style="text-align:center;"><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><strong>Roderick Remus (27 years old; PPA $1,200; E popularity)</strong></div></div></div><p></p><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</div></div><div style="text-align:center;"><span>http://i.imgur.com/BYUJinl.jpg</span></div><p></p><p></p><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

If ever there is someone that makes me optimistic for the future of MAW, it’s Remus. Here’s a kid that should be the template of how we operate going forward: worked in the independents to get himself over, came into MAW with a bit of buzz, and through sheer talent and will, forced his way to the top. Striking story, and one we should seek to emulate.</div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Of course, he’s on the shelf for another month from a mild concussion suffered in a match against Gauge, but at least that offers a ready-made storyline that can carry the company for the next few months once he returns.</div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</div></div><div style="text-align:center;"><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><strong><span style="text-decoration:underline;">Upper Midcarders</span></strong></div></div></div><p></p><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</div></div><div style="text-align:center;"><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><strong>Miller Fforde (23 years old; PPA $700; E- popularity)</strong></div></div></div><p></p><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</div></div><div style="text-align:center;"><span>http://i.imgur.com/mm6k1W2.jpg</span></div><p></p><p></p><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

A bit of an oddity in MAW, as Miller is better known for his flashiness than overall mat wrestling ability. That’s not to say he lacks for technical prowess, but for a guy his size, it’s probably the right call to get a reputation as a high-flier if he wants to work anywhere else. Fforde’s a local boy too, which makes him a natural babyface in the area. Seems like an extended feud with a big bully like George Wolfe would be the best for both men.</div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</div></div><div style="text-align:center;"><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><strong>

Copperhead (22 years old; PPA $500; F+ popularity)</strong></div></div></div><p></p><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</div></div><div style="text-align:center;"><span>http://i.imgur.com/sSdae8s.jpg</span></div><p></p><p></p><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Well, here is where the drop off with recent Boot Camp graduates starts. When the most over thing about a wrestler is his hair, you know you’ve got problems. Sure, he’s an alright brawler given his small size, but unless the ginger improves quickly, I can’t see him lasting long if I have my way.</div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</div></div><div style="text-align:center;"><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><strong>The Architect (23 years old; PPA $500; F+ popularity)</strong></div></div></div><p></p><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</div></div><div style="text-align:center;"><span>http://i.imgur.com/jz8Mfe6.jpg</span></div><p></p><p></p><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Easily the best thing to come out of the Boot Camp since Sam took over, this kid is the one I’m most excited about booking. In this day and age when it is so hard to get fans to actually boo a heel, he’s so good at getting the crowd to hate him. Whether it’s cursing out the fans while he’s got his opponent in a submission hold, or telling everybody how they’ll never be smarter than him, he gets it. That’s not to say he’s perfect, but if any one of the recent graduates is going to be a star, he’s it.</div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</div></div><div style="text-align:center;"><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><strong>

Syd Collier (26 years old; PPA $700; E- popularity)</strong></div></div></div><p></p><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</div></div><div style="text-align:center;"><span>http://i.imgur.com/uDKzY9C.jpg</span></div><p></p><p></p><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Poor Syd, always in the shadow of his tag team partner. He’s better than Cameron in the ring actually, but he always seems to flounder when moved to a singles competitor due to his inability to add anything extra to his character beyond being a wrestling machine. Given a big push, he could probably break through to the main event, but would it be worth it? Sure, the purists love his old-school style, but that doesn’t exactly make the millennials rush the turnstiles. Still, maybe there’s enough there to at least create an arc for him and see what happens.</div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</div></div><div style="text-align:center;"><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><strong><span style="text-decoration:underline;">Midcarders</span></strong></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</div></div></div><p></p><p></p><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</div></div><div style="text-align:center;"><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><strong>Nate DeMarcus and Tyrone Gray (21 and 20 years old; both PPA $500; both F+ popularity)</strong></div></div></div><p></p><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</div></div><div style="text-align:center;"><span>http://i.imgur.com/ZLgRDor.jpg</span><span>http://i.imgur.com/MrYNZWI.jpg</span></div><p></p><p></p><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Putting the two black guys in the company in a tag team together, how novel.</div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

To be fair, they do fit the bruiser and high-flier, thunder and lighting, mold, but I just wish we didn’t default to one of the most subtlety racist dimensions of pro wrestling when we ran out of ideas for these two. Nate is probably the most likely to break out due to his look and size, but unless he starts showing some personality beyond throwing guys around the ring, he probably isn’t going to amount to much.</div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Gray is in the same boat, and his bubbly ‘High Energy’ gimmick was played out in 2005. Given the lack of tag teams in the division, putting them up against the Dynamite Express in the short-term is probably the best way to go, but these two could really use a mouth-piece.</div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</div></div><div style="text-align:center;"><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><strong>Deuce Deadline (23 years old; PPA $500; F+ popularity)</strong></div></div></div><p></p><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</div></div><div style="text-align:center;"><span>http://i.imgur.com/nIzpJ8s.jpg</span></div><p></p><p></p><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Ugh, deuce is right. Alright, I’m not being fair, but I don’t really see much of a future for this kid. He’s a good brawler with some solid basics, but except for his height, he looks like he just stepped out from the audience to fight. That’s not to say he can’t be useful, but more as a gatekeeper, which at his age is pretty much the kiss of death to any big success.</div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</div></div><div style="text-align:center;"><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><strong>

Bradley Blaze (22 years old; PPA $500; F+ popularity)</strong></div></div></div><p></p><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</div></div><div style="text-align:center;"><span>http://i.imgur.com/G4sDygR.jpg</span></div><p></p><p></p><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

I can’t explain it, but I have a soft spot for this kid. Maybe it’s because he’s always extra-respectful backstage, never leaving out a ‘Sir’ or ‘Thank you,’ but if there’s one wrestler in the midcard that can break out, it’s him.</div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Right now, he’s saddled with an awful cowboy gimmick that just doesn’t work for a face on the East Coast, but maybe if I can turn him into something more relatable, the sky (or at least the upper midcard) is the limit.</div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</div></div><div style="text-align:center;"><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><strong>Hal Harvard (33 years old; $500 per show; F+ popularity)</strong></div></div></div><p></p><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</div></div><div style="text-align:center;"><span>http://i.imgur.com/THxKPbR.jpg</span></div><p></p><p></p><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Normally, a wrestler Hal’s age would have been in the business for ten plus years already, but it turns out he’s got less ring time than Miller Fforde. He’s actually not too bad in between the ropes given he only started wrestling four years ago, and being one of the few adults around means he helps police the locker room, but with his contract coming up in a few months, I’m not sold on keeping him around.</div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

You can call it ageism, but if I’ve got two guys at the same skill-level competing for one spot, then I’m going to go with the one that has the bigger upside, which is code for younger. That’s just the way this business works, and I’m guilty of it just as much as anyone else that has those type of decisions to make. </div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Of course, letting him go would mean having him drop the Mid Atlantic American title to someone, but who?</div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</div></div><div style="text-align:center;"><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><strong>

Keith Vegas (31 years old; PPA $600; F+ popularity)</strong></div></div></div><p></p><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</div></div><div style="text-align:center;"><span>http://i.imgur.com/xSJzaiy.jpg</span></div><p></p><p></p><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

And welcome to the bottom of the barrel. I almost forget this guy is on the roster and not a groupie when I see him backstage, and that stupid haircut makes me want to shave him bald. He’s a vanity project left over from Rip Chord, and signing him was what made the whispers that Rip had taken one too many shots to the head start.</div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Really, it was a drunken dare during one Chord’s monthly poker games with Sam Strong that led to MAW bringing in Keith, which means it’s time to cut bait. I’ll probably feed him to a heel and then wish him well on his future endeavors.</div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</div></div><div style="text-align:center;"><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><strong><span style="text-decoration:underline;">

Lower Midcarders</span></strong></div></div></div><p></p><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</div></div><div style="text-align:center;"><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><strong>Jonah Pilgrim (23 years old; PPA $400; F popularity)</strong></div></div></div><p></p><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</div></div><div style="text-align:center;"><span>http://i.imgur.com/bgIg49E.jpg</span></div><p></p><p></p><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

This fat f*ck. Okay, he’s not fat, just flabby, but Jesus, if he laid off the hot dogs and soda, he could actually make a pretty good career for himself. As Hal Harvard’s lackey, he’s probably right where he should be given his talent, but I’m not sure if that’s enough to keep him around, especially if Harvard gets released.</div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</div></div><div style="text-align:center;"><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><strong>Ade Nelson (26 years old; PPA $600; F+ popularity)</strong></div></div></div><p></p><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</div></div><div style="text-align:center;"><span>http://i.imgur.com/HnguNZz.jpg</span></div><p></p><p></p><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Another guy we don’t need. A glimpse into Pilgrim’s future too, as Ade’s best days were as Robbie Wright’s running buddy, and even that was short-lived. Once Wright got the one-way ticket to RIPW developmental, Nelson was left without much to do, and no real reason to push him considering he’s the weakest wrestler on the roster. Say goodbye to Ade.</div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</div></div><div style="text-align:center;"><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><strong>

Josh Jacobs (27 years old; PPA $600; F popularity)</strong></div></div></div><p></p><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</div></div><div style="text-align:center;"><span>http://i.imgur.com/rnKKPTw.jpg</span></div><p></p><p></p><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

God, that face, it makes me wince every time I see it. It’s like someone took a shovel and bashed him in the mug with it, then hit him again. He’s got as much charisma as a head of cabbage, so of course he’s a savant in the ring. Show him how to do a move, and he’ll be a master of it the next day. That doesn’t necessarily mean he’s worth keeping around, especially considering he makes more than some of the guys higher up the card, but if he can get used to being a glorified jobber, then maybe he can stick.</div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</div></div><div style="text-align:center;"><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><strong>

Trix Triumph (21 years old; PPA $400; F popularity)</strong></div></div></div><p></p><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</div></div><div style="text-align:center;"><span>http://i.imgur.com/olRvZfu.jpg</span></div><p></p><p></p><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Oh Trix. The only reason I remember you is the constant fits you throw whenever you find out you’re losing a match. A tip to young wrestlers just starting out, don’t be a dick backstage. Yeah, you’ve heard the stories where Richard Eisen likes guys who show attitude and fight for their spot? Well, around here, all that does is make me want to kick your ass to the curb. As for Mr. Triumph, he’s firmly on the cut list.</div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</div></div><div style="text-align:center;"><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><strong>Johnny Needham and Ralph Liotta (18 years old and 21 years old; PPA $290 and $300; F popularity)</strong></div></div></div><p></p><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</div></div><div style="text-align:center;"><span>http://i.imgur.com/Ly9NFDd.jpg</span><span>http://i.imgur.com/AKMeMeQ.jpg</span></div><p></p><p></p><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Even after a couple of shows, I still can’t tell these two apart. Greener than fresh Brussels sprouts, both of these two have been booked as the odd heel jobbers, packaged together as the Heartbreak Express. To their credit, as fresh graduates of the Boot Camp, they do have a ton of potential, but neither are good enough to be classified as the ‘Next Big Thing.’</div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

The best thing about them is actually their manager…</div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</div></div><div style="text-align:center;"><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><strong>

</strong></div></div><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><strong><span style="text-decoration:underline;">Managers</span></strong></div></div></div><p></p><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</div></div><div style="text-align:center;"><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><strong>Lisa Bowen (26 years old; PPA $400; E- popularity)</strong></div></div></div><p></p><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</div></div><div style="text-align:center;"><span>http://i.imgur.com/eda36ky.jpg</span></div><p></p><p></p><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

As the only woman in a locker room full of young men, you figured she would get a lot of crap, but even the rookies know not to mess with the daughter of Runaway Train. Not only would he probably drive down to Stanley Hall and break your legs, it is also a good way of getting blackballed from his current employer, SWF. </div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

So far, Bowen has succeeded in getting each of her clients, Jefferson Stardust and Robbie Wright, written deals, but why Lisa wanted to pair up with the Heartbreak Express next, I’ll never know. Maybe she figures that if she can get them over, it will make one of the bigger companies finally notice her instead of who she manages.</div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

With her natural charisma and ability to hold a crowd’s attention, it’s too bad she didn’t aim for a career in the ring, but having grown up in the industry, her head is more on the backstage-end of things anyway. At production meetings, she always takes notes. She sits next to the editor when he puts together tapes, and she’s never short on booking ideas. If you ask me, she’ll probably be the first female booker of a major US company, if Alicia Strong doesn’t beat her to it.</div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;">

“Marv, are you listening? I asked you what you think of the boys.”</div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</div><div style="text-align:center;"><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><strong>*Coming back to reality, Earnest refocuses his attention on his boss.*</strong></div></div><p></p><p></p><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;">

“Sorry…well…”</div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</div><div style="text-align:center;"><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><strong>*Before Marvin can answer, the phone on Sam’s desk rings. Keith holds up one finger and then picks up the receiver.*</strong></div></div><p></p><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;">

“Oh hey, Larry…Yeah, he’s here, why?”</div>

Avatar's Log - Thursday Week 1, January, 2016

http://i1383.photobucket.com/albums/ah283/DarEatWorld/4C/Kate%20Avatar_zpsueanqxsk.jpg

I’m pored over a file of documents as thick as my arm when there’s a knock on my office door. I tell the person to come in. Mr. Winner lets himself in, smiles at me, closes the door and walks over to my desk where he clambers up onto a chair with some difficulty.

http://i1383.photobucket.com/albums/ah283/DarEatWorld/4C/Troy%20Winner_zps9c3u0eww.jpg

“Working hard Kate?” he enquires,

“Yes Sir,”

“Yes TROY,” he winces for what seems like the millionth time this week. I need to get into the habit of using his name.

“Sorry Troy,” I respond. He dismisses my apology with a friendly wave of his small hand.

“4C work,” he asks, “or the boring stuff?”

I push the folder over towards him. It’s the financial statements for 4C and he nods approvingly.

“Pretty healthy right? No immediate worries anyway! Actually I’ve a few things I’d like to cover with you. Is now a good time?”

I learned a long time ago that now is ALWAYS a good time when your boss needs something so I confirm that for him.

“We needs some sort of goals Kate, there’s no other way we can track our progress? Agreed?”

I can hardly disagree. It does make sense anyway.

“We’re well established as a regional promotion by now. In the next two years I’d like to see us growing up towards a cult reputation. I like to think we can do that. Equally important is that we NEVER drop below this regional level. The day we’re of a stature with ACPW is the day we may as well close the doors.”

I’ve taken steps to work towards this already so I’m pleased that I can tell Troy that I’ve already made plans to alternate our shows between Ontario and Quebec. They’re the two areas where we already have a following and if we can sustain growth there it will allow us to create a buzz that is somewhat more than strictly regional anyway and, hopefully, fool the rest of Canada into paying attention.

“Two other things Kate. Less critical to me but these are things I’d like to see you adhere to. No MMA people, that lot are the enemies of professional wrestling and I don’t want us to have to shift our booking plans around to accommodate somebody’s ‘other career’. I get that 4C is not a full-time gig for anybody here yet but MMA is not something I want 4C associated with. Likewise, nobody with a criminal record, professional wrestling gets enough stick from the vultures in the press and I’m not going to give them any appetisers. The current roster is clean so you needn’t worry about them anyway!”

To be fair I don’t anticipate any problems fulfilling either of those requests but the mention of our current roster does remind me of a couple of phone calls I made yesterday.

“I changed a couple of gimmicks actually,” I tell him almost apologetically but the smile he gives me is shockingly radiant coming from a bald, tiny, old man.

“That’s what you’re here for Kate! Who did you change?”

“Sayeed Ali and Too Hot,” I take a quick breath before barrelling on, “I know that they’re half of our Main Event scene but that’s why I did it. I watched the last few shows and they just weren’t working. I’ve just tweaked Sayeed. The Gangsta spiel he was peddling was awful Troy! We’re going to bill him as a Street Fighter now and I just think it’s a more natural fit. Too Hot was the same. The Bubbly Babyface thing just wasn’t convincing anybody – it’s in the right general area but it’s not a real fit. He’s a lovely guy, he’s goofy and he’s fun. Let’s play on that! He’s going to be a Cartoon Joker going forward and I could make for a lovely dynamic playing off more serious heels.”

Troy nods approvingly throughout this before telling me,

“Gimmicks can be funny sometimes. I’ve seen perfect fits bomb and I’ve seen potential disasters getting over huge. I like how you’re thinking though and it’s one of the reasons I’m glad you’re on board! How did you enjoy the COTT Bookers’ Meeting anyway? We haven’t had a huge chance to talk about that yet!”

The meeting was fine actually and I tell him that. I didn’t say too much. I’m just finding my feet in a lot of ways but it was certainly interesting. I’ll definitely be able to work quite comfortably with J-Ro of CZCW and Marvin Earnest of MAW. The Mexican guy in the mask? An absolute enigma but I think he’ll be honourable at least (if not always completely trustworthy). Larry Vessey, the owner of NYCW, clearly views me as an errant child but I’ll let him keep that view until I need to change it too.

“I’ve had a good chat with Marvin actually,” I tell Troy, “he wants to borrow Sayeed Ali for The Rip Chord Invitational. I cleared that and in return he’s going to send some young cruiserweight up to us for a show - Miller Fforde.”

Troy is perfectly happy with that too. He says that we can start planning my first show next week before giving me another big smile and asking,

“Now, let’s get to the part I know you’re most excited about! How is our Women’s Division shaping up?”

He’s right of course. This is my favourite part.

“We’ve six signed Troy, Including me that is! I really want this to give women wrestlers in Canada a chance so I’ve only hired people who are based here and not working for anybody else for now. So there’s a couple of girls, like me, who are just starting out in Ariel Breaks and Sandra Shine, a couple who never quite the chance that they probably deserved in Eve Grunge and Viv Jacobs.”

Troy nods along at this,

“Who’s the last one?” he enquires. My smile gets even wider,

“Emma Bitch!” I tell him with satisfaction.

“No?” he exhales in surprise.

http://i1383.photobucket.com/albums/ah283/DarEatWorld/4C/Emma%20Bitch_zpsedj5wmfv.jpg

“Yes indeed Troy,” I enthuse, “Emma Bitch, the former NOTBPW Women’s Champion will soon be strutting her stuff in a 4C ring. So it’s an opportunity for us younger girls, an overdue reward for Eve and Viv and a shot at redemption for Emma.”

“Outstanding Kate!” Troy is delighted and his delight delights me, “I’ll leave you to it, you’re doing a great job so far! Keep it up.”

He climbs back down from the chair and leaves the room. I turn back to my reports. It’s been another good day.
