<p></p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong><em><span style="color:#000080;">After the success of WrestleFest and the first ever summer time edition of Saturday Night's Main Event, it was onward to building up the first annual SummerSlam, which I intended to be the culmination of storylines that went on throughout the summer. And boy did we have some stories going into SummerSlam. Bobby Heenan and Woman had pooled their resources together to bring the baddest of the bad from their respective groups to try and destroy Hulkamania. Hulk Hogan wasn't without allies himself, as he gained the allegiance of Jake "The Snake" Roberts and "Mr. Wonderful" Paul Wonderful, the latter of which was interesting considering the history between Hogan and Orndorff, with Heenan warning Hogan that Onrdorff was nothing more than a traitor and that he had betrayed him before, and would do so again.</span></em></strong></p><p><strong><em><span style="color:#000080;"> </span></em></strong></p><p><strong><em><span style="color:#000080;"> The Macho Man/Terry Funk feud was in full swing after being kicked off with an attack on the Macho Man by Terry Funk at WrestleFest, which had completed a face turn for Randy Savage that I had built up for some time. I knew how protective Savage was of Elizabeth, and I figured what better way to draw out raw emotion out of him and make it look more real than to have Funk threaten Liz. That of course would draw the ire of the Macho Man, and it brought things to a boiling point to where in storyline, President Jack Tunney would have to figure out ways to try and keep them separated, whether it be staying at home and them delivering satellite interviews, one of them being barred from the building while the other wrestled, or what have you.</span></em></strong></p><p><strong><em><span style="color:#000080;"> </span></em></strong></p><p><strong><em><span style="color:#000080;"> Things were getting interesting when it came to the WWF Intercontinental Championship, as Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat was set to meet possibly his most conniving opponent yet, the Honky Tonk Man. Honky Tonk Man got a huge win when he picked up the pinfall in the tag match at WrestleFest that pitted him and Danny Davis against Tito Santana and Jake Roberts. That, coupled with his good win-loss record dating back to the spring, warranted him status as #1 contender. And let's not forget how he sent a loud message to the Dragon on the previous Saturday Night's Main Event when he blasted him with his trusty guitar. Now Steamboat was mad and wanting revenge, but would his temper get the better of him?</span></em></strong></p><p><strong><em><span style="color:#000080;"> </span></em></strong></p><p><strong><em><span style="color:#000080;"> Yes, it had indeed been a very hot summer for the WWF, but I am only scratching the surface here.</span></em></strong></p></div><p></p><p> </p><p> <strong>OOC:</strong> A brief post, for sure. I wanted to touch on the big stories leading into SummerSlam before I get to the rest of the undercard.</p><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-username="Smasher1311" data-cite="Smasher1311" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="43279" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div>Laughed my ass off with ''HOGAN MUST POSE'' it's one of those Scott Keith ''THIS FEUD MUST CONTINUE'' moments that are funny just because. <img alt=":p" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/tongue.png.ceb643b2956793497cef30b0e944be28.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> I actually can't take credit for that. That comes from the Something to Wrestle With podcast hosted by Bruce Prichard and Conrad Thompson, when Bruce was doing an impression of Vince. I want to say it had to do with Hogan coming out to attack Andre's team after his (Hogan's) team had lost the Survivor Series, and when asked why, Vince's answer was that "He MUST POSE!"</p>

It's funny because it's true. <img alt=":p" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/tongue.png.ceb643b2956793497cef30b0e944be28.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

<p></p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong><em><span style="color:#000080;">The top of the card heading into SummerSlam was coming along quite nicely, with Hogan and friends going up against the Heenan Family and Dark Circle; Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat hoping to stave off the challenge of Honky Tonk Man; and "Macho Man" Randy Savage's heated feud with the ever crazy Terry Funk, which was getting personal with Miss Elizabeth's involvement as Funk would verbally harass her like only he could. But you can't have a great event if the midcard isn't built up properly.</span></em></strong></p><p><strong><em><span style="color:#000080;"> </span></em></strong></p><p><strong><em><span style="color:#000080;">

</span></em></strong><span>http://i.imgur.com/250XivJ.jpg</span><span>http://i.imgur.com/wxF7bY3.jpg</span></p><p><strong><em><span style="color:#000080;"> </span></em></strong></p><p><strong><em><span style="color:#000080;">

The Ultimate Warrior was someone that I wanted to build up as a big star for the future. He had the physique, he had the look and he had the charisma. He didn't quite have the in-ring skills as other top players, but I felt that could always be developed by putting him in the ring with more talented individuals who were just going to be enhancement talent, as well as locals that we would hire that had good in-ring ability. With his physique, it was only natural to put him in a feud with "Magnificent" Don Muraco. We put them in some test of strength contests, with Muraco attacking Warrior just as Warrior was about to win a Tug-of-War contest, followed up by Muraco attacking Warrior during a Bench Press competition. </span></em></strong></p><p><strong><em><span style="color:#000080;"> </span></em></strong></p><p><strong><em><span style="color:#000080;">

</span></em></strong><span>http://i.imgur.com/gZKNoDw.jpg</span></p><p><strong><em><span style="color:#000080;"> </span></em></strong></p><p><strong><em><span style="color:#000080;">

After their Tag Team Title feud with the Hart Foundation ended, the British Bulldogs seemed to get lost in the shuffle in the ever growing tag team division. So what better way to build sympathy with the fans than to have a team of heels kidnap their pet dog, Matilda? Who couldn't relate to being heartbroken over something bad happening to their pet? It also gave the Islanders something to do as they had dognappend Matilda. The Bulldogs hands were full by now as Demolition didn't forget about how the Bulldogs ran them off after Demolition's beatdown of the Rockers. The Rockers would return to take on the Islanders, and just as Demolition were coming down the ring to distract the Rockers, the Bulldogs would run down to attack Demolition, distracting the Islanders long enough to allow the Rockers to pick up a huge win on their return. With the heels taken down, the Rockers managed to grab Matilda and return her to her rightful owners. The two teams would later appear on the Brother Love Show, a talk segment that was taking off pretty quickly as Bruce Prichard--the man portraying Brother Love--was getting over pretty quickly and developing his entertainment skills quite nicely. On the show, they would challenge Demolition and the Islanders to an eight man tag match at SummerSlam.</span></em></strong></p><p><strong><em><span style="color:#000080;"> </span></em></strong></p><p><strong><em><span style="color:#000080;">

The tag team division was so stacked that the Twin Towers and Killer Bees almost got lost in the shuffle. However, I was able to come up with a story where the Killer Bees got fed up with the Twin Towers attacking opponents after matches, where the Big Boss Man would handcuff one worker while One Man Gang annihilated another one, with the premise being that the Big Boss Man was playing the part of dirty cop, looking the other way when One Man Gang would do his dirty deeds.</span></em></strong></p><p><strong><em><span style="color:#000080;"> </span></em></strong></p><p><strong><em><span style="color:#000080;">

The Rougeau... excuse me... Fabulous Rougeau Brothers... were coming along quite nicely after turning heel, joining forces with Jimmy Hart and winning the WWF Tag Team Titles from the Hart Foundation, who were now full on babyfaces after the double turn at WrestleFest. Naturally, there was going to be a rematch at SummerSlam after the Hart Foundation proved that they were more than capable of going toe to toe with the Rougeaus as the Harts would win in singles matches against the Rougeaus and multi-man tag matches involving both teams. </span></em></strong></p><p><strong><em><span style="color:#000080;"> </span></em></strong></p><p><strong><em><span style="color:#000080;">

Speaking of Jimmy Hart's entourage, former referee turned wrestler Danny Davis had a big match himself going down at SummerSlam as he would take on Tito Santana, with Santana declaring that he would leave the WWF if he couldn't beat Danny. Danny's promos heading into this bout were fairly entertaining as he played up the arrogant jerk who thought that he would for sure put Santana away.</span></em></strong></p><p><strong><em><span style="color:#000080;"> </span></em></strong></p><p><strong><em><span style="color:#000080;">

Another side story that was gaining traction was Harley Race, who was given back his cape and crown by Ted DiBiase after King Of The Ring, feuding with "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan. Duggan's spiel was that he was sick and tired of Harley Race belittling people because of his status as King of the WWF. Harley and Bobby Heenan would tell Duggan that if he felt so strongly about it, they would put the cape and crown on the line, anytime, anywhere. Needless to say, Duggan accepted and the match was set for SummerSlam.</span></em></strong></p><p><strong><em><span style="color:#000080;"> </span></em></strong></p><p><strong><em><span style="color:#000080;">

</span></em></strong><span>http://i.imgur.com/k88ghDg.jpg</span></p><p><strong><em><span style="color:#000080;"> </span></em></strong></p><p><strong><em><span style="color:#000080;">

Now this talk of kings in the WWF wouldn't be complete without a mention of the 1987 King Of The Ring tournament, "The Million Dollar Man" Ted DiBiase. We ran vignettes of DiBiase and Orton enjoying their respective wealth, taking various heels out to dinner, lunch, or what have you. Orton would also help DiBiase in his matches against babyfaces such as the Blue Blazer and Billy Jack Haynes. I had big plans in store fo DiBiase, but I wanted to slow build him first. That would lead to the announcement of a six man tag match on the SummerSlam Report segments hosted by Mean Gene, the match pitting DiBiase and the Marvelous Ones against Koko B. Ware and Can-Am Connection, with Rick Martel having come back from his injury. The match was a pretty simple set-up: Koko took exception to DiBiase's methods, and the Can-Am Connection were mad at the Marvelous Ones, who they felt cost them winning the WWF Tag Team Titles in a match against the Rougeaus when Valentine distracted the referee and Martel, and Dino Bravo attacking Tom Zenk before getting out of the ring. </span></em></strong></p><p><strong><em><span style="color:#000080;"> </span></em></strong></p><p><strong><em><span style="color:#000080;">

And of course, we can't forget the ladies. Velvet McIntyre and the Sirens had scores to settle with Sensational Sherri and the Prankster Punks, with Velvet wanting a fair shot at Sherri's Women's Title, and the Sirens wanting a shot at the Punks' Women's Tag Titles. But with SummerSlam stacking up to be a huge card, I felt that I would be short changing the ladies if they had two separate matches. So I decided to put together a six woman tag match that would allow the ladies to have the proper amount of time to showcase their in-ring talent rather than having two short matches.</span></em></strong></p><p><strong><em><span style="color:#000080;"> </span></em></strong></p><p><strong><em><span style="color:#000080;">

I would be remiss if I didn't mention that there would be some shenanigans at SummerSlam, playing up the summer time theme by having a swimsuit competition among some of the other ladies of the WWF, with the ever letcherous "Mean" Gene Okerlund serving as emcee, and Brutus "The Barber" Beefcake, Mr. Perfect and the Genius serving as the judges. Godiva, Americana, Palestina and Ivory were quite the lookers, and I think it's safe to say that all of the males in our audience were looking forward to seeing what kind of swimsuits the ladies would wear. However, I did ask the ladies to keep it family friendly as we were still catering to families.</span></em></strong></p></div><p></p><p></p>

WWF owner Vince McMahon is rumored to have either already inked deals, or close to inking deals, with a slew of workers who have made a name for themselves in the NWA territories, as well as Bill Watts' Mid South territory, now better known as the UWF. The rumored signings include Rick Rude, Sting and Eddie Gilbert. There is also talk of "Superfly" Jimmy Snuka returning to the World Wrestling Federation. It is interesting that these rumors are coming about as the WWF heads into their first annual SummerSlam pay-per-view, which they are hyping up to be their summer time version of WrestleMania. We will see if it lives up to that sort of billing.</span></span></em></strong></p><p><strong><em><span style="font-family:System;"><span style="font-size:12px;"> </span></span></em></strong></p><p><strong><em><span style="font-family:System;"><span style="font-size:12px;">

Speaking of SummerSlam, the card seems to be set in stone and it looks like a pretty stacked card. The six man tag match pitting Hulk Hogan, Jake Roberts and Paul Orndorff against Hercules, Kamala and King Kong Bundy is scheduled to close the show, but plans can always change. There has also been talk of "Macho Man" Randy Savage vs. Terry Funk closing out the show as Randy is rumored to be in line for a main event push down the road.</span></span></em></strong></p><p><strong><em><span style="font-family:System;"><span style="font-size:12px;"> </span></span></em></strong></p><p><strong><em><span style="font-family:System;"><span style="font-size:12px;">

Ted DiBiase's run, while looking like it has cooled off, might just be in its infancy stages. Winning the 1987 King Of The Ring tournament helped to make him a top level heel in the WWF, and his antics in vignettes that he has taped with various heels and his storyline bodyguard, Cowboy Bob Orton, have really helped to garner him good heat with the fans. It is said that his current state of working with some mid to lower level babyfaces is only temporary to keep him busy until it is time for his main event run. If he keeps up the work that he has been producing, he should be a top flight heel for years to come.</span></span></em></strong></p><p><strong><em><span style="font-family:System;"><span style="font-size:12px;"> </span></span></em></strong></p><p><strong><em><span style="font-family:System;"><span style="font-size:12px;">

Terrible news coming out of the World Class territory in Dallas as Mike Von Erich was rushed to a hospital after collapsing backstage from an overdose of as of now unknown hard substances (most likely cocaine). Fritz, who in the past has put out cover stories to local newspapers in order to try and uphold his family's wholesome image, has actually opted not to comment on the situation other than it is a personal issue that Mike will have to deal with. Mike actually had a pretty decent push going for him, holding the World Class Six Man Tag Team Titles with his real life brother Kevin, and his kayfabe brother, Lance. The titles, needless to say, have been vacated and there is no word yet on if the titles will remain active or be retired.</span></span></em></strong></p><p><strong><em><span style="font-family:System;"><span style="font-size:12px;"> </span></span></em></strong></p><p><strong><em><span style="font-family:System;"><span style="font-size:12px;">

Does Mike Von Erich have a time machine because Oxycontin wasn't available until 1996 <img alt="" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/eek.png.0e09df00fa222c85760b9bc1700b5405.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

<p>I definitely look forward to Ted's big push. Seeing you play this game really makes me want to do a fun game of 1988, and I always say that if a diary makes me want to play my own game then it's gotta be doing good stuff!</p><p> </p><p>

I always find it a bit of a disconnect seeing Sting come to the WWF, but he will be a huge star for you if you play him right.... which you will. He will likely make a damn good IC champ as soon as you get him built up a little bit.</p>

Okay, I wanted to get your thoughts on what the next posting should be. Do you all want to see a posting of the go-home show editions of Main Event, Superstars and Wrestling Challenge? (mostly quick results) Or would you rather me go ahead and post the prediction card for SummerSlam? I'm good either way, but just wanted to get the input of you, the readers.

Unless you want to do the show up, which I wouldn't complain about at all, just run the predictions. I don't know about you, but personally I hate booking go-home shows. Because I've already got all my storylines set up and ready to blow off by this point, so where do I even go with it for one final push? I would skip them all if I could <img alt=":o" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/redface.png.900245280682ef18c5d82399a93c5827.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

The reason I say "no spoilers, but I think you'll like where I'm going" in this dynasty is because in my actual save, I am into November 1988. What I am doing is going back through the archives and posting what has happened thus far. So the go-home shows were already booked and have been run. It's just a matter of if people want to see me post them or not. But I won't complain about just going ahead and posting the predictions, either. <img alt=":D" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/biggrin.png.929299b4c121f473b0026f3d6e74d189.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p>

Jimmy Snuka was the only man standing as Steamboat and Tito were getting back to their feet on the outside after having taken a tumble with Honky Tonk Man and Danny Davis to the floor earlier after a wild melee that had seen all six men get into the ring for a huge brawl. Despite having bested Bundy inside a steel cage at WrestleMania 2, as well as in a Stretcher Match at King Of The Ring back in May, Bundy had once again worked his way back up to #1 contendership, duking out with the Hulkster one more time before the big six man main event at SummerSlam. It was noted by Vince and Jesse how President Jack Tunney insured that there would be a definite winner in this match by threatening to fire anyone who interfered in this match. Even Bobby Heenan kept to himself and only shouted encouragement to Bundy rather than get involved because of the consequences of doing so. It definitely looked bleak at times for the immortal Hulkster, and Bundy looked like he had it won as Hogan crumpled out of the corner and down onto the canvas in a heap after an Avalanche. Bundy followed up with a huge splash and the referee counted one... two... thr-NO! Hogan managed to kick out, shake his head all over the place and look up at a shocked Bundy. Bundy tried to punch away at Hogan, but it did no good as Hogan was Hulking up like only he could. Hogan countered with several right hands, picked up and bodyslammed Bundy with authority, then ran the ropes and came crashing down with the Big Leg Drop for the one-two-three.</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Winner and still champion: Hulk Hogan</strong></p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="43279" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div>Hogan didn't have time to celebrate as Hercules and Kamala ran down to the ring to beat Hogan down. Jake then got his bag, opened and let Damien out, which quickly prompted the heels to get out of dodge, helping Bundy out of the ring while doing so. The creative braintrust decided that on this night, Hogan didn't have to pose as instead, the show ended with Orndorff and Jake tending to a shaken but recovering Hulkster.</div></blockquote></div><p></p><p> </p><p> OOC: Superstars and Challenge recaps coming up in next post.</p>

Just a note that I will leave the predictions up for several more days as it will probably take me that long to write up SummerSlam. As for a prediction contest prize, I have some ideas in my head but haven't decided on any one thing just yet. A big thank you as always to everyone who actually read this dang thing and for some reason enjoy it. :p
