SWF: Enforcing Supremacy

Recommended Posts

The following is an excerpt from the book Enforcer: Memoirs from The Mat by Phillip Roberts.

"I still have final say on everything. I sign off every show's script. But you and the writers come up with the scripts" that was how Richard explained it to me. Before reiterating "Obviously I still have my own ideas. This is still my show. But you're in charge of the shows unless you hear otherwise. You and the others put together the scripts and submit them and I sign off on them". So that was to be my new role as head of the booking committee in the SWF. Of course I was thrilled to have the job. I mean the money was spectacular! And I really didn't believe it would be that hard. I understood wrestling. I'd like to think I still do. I was already booking house shows as an agent - "producers" they call us now - and I didn't think TVs would be that much different. It's not as if Richard expected me to actually sit and script a whole TV show word for word. Segments would be filled in by the talents and the agents. The SWF had used writers for a long time by that point and Richard himself liked to put words into people's mouths if he felt the segment warranted it.

The booking committee at that point was Black Hat Bailey, Train, Eric, Jerry and then Richard and myself. Jerry had a small stint in the head writer's chair - "executive producer" in official terms - but for whatever reason he and his father just couldn't seem to get along. Jerry was still on the committee but he was now working under me and he didn't do a great job of masking his anger about it. Eric was a lot more open in his disdain. He had been angry when Richard gave the big chair to his brother and now that Eric had been passed over again he seethed openly. Even Richard must have seen this selfish streak in Eric was too great and I assume that's why he didn't consider him for the job. I believed that if I massaged his ego I'd have him eating out of my hand. Jack Bruce also sat in on booking meetings but Jack was one of the few guys I've seen that didn't let his standing and his influence go to his head. He would sit in now and then and chime in with ideas but for the most part he didn't come to meetings and when he did he only stayed to discuss his own angles before leaving.

Richard was still the boss and he would still run the shows from the Micky Position - the small area between the stage and the locker room, named after Micky Starr as this is where he would sit when he used to run the USPW shows - each night but now that he was getting older and the SWF had so many departments to oversee he didn't have the time to run every writers' meeting. Truthfully I wondered whether he had the energy either, though he would never admit to that himself.

Richard had briefed me on the tenets that he held dear for my tenure as head booker. He didn't want me hiring on anybody over 40. "There are enough old horses in the locker room. We ought to be putting them out to pasture, not bringing in more" he said. People have a very wrong impression of what Richard Eisen is really like but I have to admit that the way he viewed the boys seemed very callous at times. To go along with this policy Richard wanted me to build new stars. Christian had quite literally ridden off into the sunset, Skull had gone part time and we all wondered when Jack Bruce would start to feel the effects of his age. Richard had been dropping Paul Huntingdon's name into a lot of conversations and he was making it clear to everyone on the committee that he wanted Huntingdon elevated over the next 18 months or so. Above all, I knew that the SWF had to get ahead and stay ahead of USPW. Our roster was better than their's in terms of workers and star power but they had begun aggressively pursuing any talent available and we would be in serious trouble if they stole any of our top guys.

I left Richard's office that day and he said he'd see me when the script for the next Supreme TV was finished. I had less than 24 hours to get him a draft to edit and sign off on. I had dialled Black Hat's number barely before the door was closed. It was time to go to work.

Some OOC stuff

First of all, welcome to my SWF diary. I hope you all enjoy it and I hope I have the attention span to stick with it as I'm really enjoying this save. Not all posts will be as prosaic as this one. The actual "diary" style entries will hopefully be pretty sparse and I intend to focus mainly on the shows and throw in the odd news "article" or excerpt from the Enforcer's book here and there just to keep everyone abreast of what's happening in the wider world and behind the scenes.

I'll try and get the first few shows out pretty quickly as I'm over a month into the save already and playing catch up. There will be opportunity for predictions and stuff, I know they're always fun, although I haven't thought of any "prizes" for winners yet. Ah whey, you can pick a battle royale winner at Supreme Challenge if all else fails.

My inspirations for the diary are Bret Hart's autobiography and the great SWF diaries by James Casey.

In game terms the challenges as hinted at above are to revitalise the SWF's ageing main event roster, see the young blue chippers mature and to ward off the threats of USPW and SOTBPW. As well as pursuing a couple of my own pet projects.

In diary terms my challenges are gonna be to stay true to the SWF's sports entertainment credo (I love smaller guys with high work rate but they may struggle to hold down a top spot in this SWF); to portray the Enforcer as a no nonsense veteran who appreciates hard workers, loyalty and respect and as someone who has little time for the corporate side of the business; and finally to portray a different Richard Eisen. Richard is usually cast as a megalomaniac with a short fuse here and I hope to make him more human than that.

Enough bluster anyway. The usual roster/hall of champions posts to come and then on with the show

Very early the action spills to the outside as the Crippler looks to flee the onslaught with Jack introducing him to various pieces of furniture at ringside. The Crippler gains the upper hand after cowering behind the ref and shoving him into Jack. The Crippler launches an assault on Jack's neck eventually locking in the camel clutch. After a furious struggle Jack manages to wrench himself free, leaving the Crippler frustrated.</p><p> </p><p> The Crippler repeatedly looks for the Tombstone Piledriver but Jack thwarts his attempts. After a long period of back and forth action, with Jack's neck clearly troubling him the two men collide on clothesline attempts resulting in a double down. After both men manage to answer the 10 count a slugfest ensues with The Crippler raking Bruce's eyes in desperation. The Supreme Icon staggers around blinded and as he rebounds off the ropes the Crippler scoops him up into the Tombstone Piledriver</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Duane</strong>: Tombstone! Tombstone! We know how devastating that Tombstone is, Duane, what condition is Jack Bruce in after that? He may not be able to continue this match</p><p> </p><p> The Crippler goes for another cover in desperation before signalling for another Tombstone. Jack slips out of the back and fires his man into the ropes. Jack comes up empty on a shaky clothesline and The Crippler dumps him on his neck with a back suplex for another near fall. The Crippler again locks in a camel clutch forcing a desperate struggle to the ropes for Jack. As Jack tries inching his way forward a fatigued Chris Morrisette collapses to one knee allowing Jack a free arm. Jack frees himself and shoves the Crippler throat first into the middle rope. As the former Lobster Warrior staggers back, choking, Jack suddenly nails the New York Minute</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Duane</strong>: Out of nowhere! Tonight I will do what I always do. I will fight through the pain, I will battle the odds and I will do it with honour and pride. <p>From the pen of Enforcer Roberts</p><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="43321" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><a href="http://s176.photobucket.com/user/squidman_89/media/Enforcer%20Roberts.jpg.html" rel="external nofollow"><span>http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w176/squidman_89/Enforcer%20Roberts.jpg</span></a></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p> Things were moving fast and we were already approaching our second pay per view of the year, <em>Valentine's Day Massacre</em>. Richard had shuffled the schedule around and moved the February pay per view from the usual thursday slot to a Sunday night so that it would actually fall on Valentine's. Things were going well in the build and we were handily ahead of USPW in the ratings. Happily for me I was allowed a lot of autonomy as Richard was busy expanding our TV output, looking for new markets, working on the production of the shows. USPW had poured a lot of money into polishing their shows from hokey and dated looking to slick, modern productions. Not to be outdone Richard had gone all out and bankrolled new sets, production trucks, cameras, the works.</p><p> </p><p> My primary role of writing the shows had actually been smooth sailing. In front of the cameras is not where the problems were. My very first Supreme TV with the book I arrived at the arena and the boys were already falling all over themselves to tell me something had happened. It was small potatoes considering some of the things that have happened in wrestling locker rooms down the years but evidently Jerry Eisen had been going around, none too discreetly and filling some guys' heads with tales of Skull DeBones politicking against them. Word had immediately gotten to Skull since nobody was about to BS him and he was mad as hell. Jerry had gone to ground but I managed to track him down. I pulled him out of his foxhole and chewed him out in front of a small audience. "That man is wrestling royalty. I don't give a damn what your surname is, back here that man's word is law" I told him and Jerry had a sour look on his face the entire time. Skull seemed to think that was enough and left well enough alone. It seems silly but I can see it for what it was. Jerry was testing me. He was still brooding about having the book taken off him and he wanted to push my buttons and see what he could get away with. It was a power play and right away he and Eric were in Richard's ear, who angrily lectured me on the importance of diplomacy. Like I needed to be told about locker room politics. </p><p> </p><p> There was more fun and games at my first pay per view. As I was walking through the arena I noticed Joey Morgan sitting with a bunch of guys passing around the BS. Whatever. It was only when I looked again and got closer that I realised I didn't know these guys. They weren't part of our crew at all. When I called Joey over and asked him about it he shrugged his shoulders like a high school kid and moaned "What's the big deal? They're just some buddies of mine". He was fined and sulked about it for weeks. I had half a mind to change the finish that night and switch the title from him to Huntingdon but cooler heads prevailed.</p><p> </p><p> Then Brandon James and Jack Geidroyc arrived at the arena in the midst of a screaming match. Brandon had driven to the show and dinged up the rental car real bad which was in Jack's name and now was denying any wrong doing. Jack was no tough guy but he was right in the big man's face and I was worried what Brandon would do. I had visions of his massive hands twisting the head off of one third of our main event! I told Jack to go cool off and had it out with Brandon. "Big Money" was nothing like his on screen persona and he held up his hands like the gentleman he was. He and Geidroyc left the arena together at the end of the night.</p><p> </p><p> Happily, the show was a roaring success. There was more good news that week as SWF Uprising had returned to screens and I believed that could get us some much needed exposure for our younger guys and I was overseeing a pretty substantial recruitment drive to pad the roster. I advised Richard to re-sign Raphael and he had debuted already - I aren't sure Richard even remembered employing him previously - but we had several other talents inbound. Mostly enhancement guys and journeymen, solid hands, but I also personally brought in my first significant addition. I'd never been a real part of the recruitment process before and I was more than a little worried about it panning out, especially considering who it was...</p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><p> Prediction card for the next SWF Supreme TV (the final one before this diary finally catches up with my save):</p><p> </p><p> </p><ul><li>Joey Morgan vs Raphael<br /> Comment:</li></ul><p></p><p> </p><p> </p><ul><li><span style="text-decoration:underline;">SWF World Tag Team Championship</span><br /> The Awesomeness © vs The Amazing Bumfholes<br /> Comment:</li></ul><p></p><p> </p><p> </p><ul><li>The Platinum Blondes vs American Machine (w/ BJ O'Neill) & ???<br /> Comment:</li></ul><p></p><p> </p><p> </p><ul><li>"Big Money"Brandon James (w/ Krissy Angelle) vs "The Man From The Outback" Harry Allen<br /> Comment: </li></ul><p></p><p> </p><p> </p><ul><li><span style="text-decoration:underline;">Winner becomes number 1 contender for the SWF North American Championship</span><br /> Paul Huntingdon vs Robbie Retro vs Joe Sexy vs Jungle Lord<br /> Comment:</li></ul><p></p><p> </p><p> </p><ul><li><span style="text-decoration:underline;">Winner becomes number 1 contender for the SWF World Heavyweight Championship</span><br /> Angry Gilmore (w/ Jessie) vs "The Supremacist" Eric Eisen<br /> Comment:</li></ul><p></p><p> </p><p> BONUS</p><p> </p><p> 1) Who is the signing mentioned in the last paragraph of the diary entry?</p><p> </p><p> 2) Who will American Machine's mystery partner be?</p><p> </p><p> 3) What will be Match of The Night?</p><p> </p><p> 4) Who will be MVP?</p>

My issue with him was done when I pinned his shoulders to the mat last month, at When Hell Freezes Over</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Ana:</strong> About that. There are those who wonder if that really is enough for you Jack. The Crippler hurt you- ah, with respect - he tried to seriously injure you. He tried to end your career. Is a pinfall victory really enough for you?</p><p> </p><p> Jack looks quzzical, somewhat perturbed</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Jack</strong>: Ana, please. I'm a professional wrestler. What do you want from me? You want me to break into his house and beat him up in front of his kids? Come on. Yes, I hate this man, but I aren't about to do something ridiculous and get myself fired or go to jail. I beat him. End of story.</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Ana</strong>: How do you respond to the Crippler's repeated challenge for a rematch? Up to this point you haven't formally accepted or declined his challenge.</p><p> </p><p> Jack is clearly growing annoyed now</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Jack</strong>: How plain can I make this, Ana? I refuse. I reject his challenge. I beat the man. I'm moving on. We're all moving on. Except for the Crippler</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Ana</strong>: But Jack, again. With respect. There are those who don't feel this issue is done. Clearly Chris Morrisette doesn't feel it's done, a lot of members of the SWF Universe don't see it as done. Jerry Eisen, I know, believes there is a lot of money to be made in a rematch. There are still a lot of people who say your neck isn't 100%. If you want to silence those people and if you hate this man so much, what have you got to lose from getting into the ring with him one more time?</p><p> </p><p> Jack suddenly erupts. He is on his feet.</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Jack</strong> <strong>What have I got to lose!? What have I got to lose?! Everything! I can lose everything!....</strong></p><p> </p><p> <strong>Jack</strong>:....I can lose everything. Is that what you want me to say? I'm afraid. Alright. I said it. I'm afraid. For the first time in my career there is a challenge in front of me that I don't think I can overcome. This man hurt me. He put me out. And he knows he can hurt me again. So do I. And the fans wanna see it? Jerry Eisen wants to see it? They wanna see me go into the ring with a man who wants to end my career? And what? I get stretchered out, I go away and they carry on with their lives. What about me? I go home and I maybe never walk again. I might never feed myself again. Is that what you want me to say!? huh!?</p><p> </p><p> Jack stands there in the silence. You were lucky to beat me at When Hell Freezes Over and you're damn sure lucky that you were able to walk away from the beating that I gave you 2 weeks ago. You challenge me to a match? You think you're gonna wrestle me and pin my shoulders to the mat again? nuh-uh. Not gonna happen. Next week, at Valentines Day Massacre that's exactly what these people are gonna see. Not a wrestling match. A massacre. It's gonna get ugly, "man of honour" we're gonna be playing by my rules. Valiant strides onto the stage, fire in his eyes and microphone in hand. His music hasn't even cut when he drops the mic and charges into the ring. The speed and ferocity of Valiant's barrage catches Brandon totally unprepared. After getting in a few initial boots, "Big Money" is soon literally on the ropes and reeling. Valiant fires Brandon into the ropes at the far side of the ring, where he snatches the top rope and hastily bails, leaving Valiant daring him to come back. Jungle Lord batters Joe Sexy in the corner as Paul Huntingdon works over Robbie Retro. Retro is jettisoned from the ring and Huntingdon and Sexy form an ad-hoc alliance in working over the Wildman. The alliance is severed almost as quickly as it is born as Huntingdon nails Sexy with High Society. He scores a 2 count but the pin is broken up by Retro. </p><p> </p><p> Sexy and Jungle Lord spill to the outside as Retro and Huntingdon square off. The two men trade near falls and Huntingdon grows increasingly frustrated. He goes outside looking for a chair as Emma Chase points out there are no DQs in a Fatal Four Way. The ref grapples with Huntingdon, but the Blue Blood wins and batters Retro with the furniture. The referee admonishes Huntingdon and disposes of the chair, but the Aristocrat has the groggy disco king dead to rights, measuring him for the High Society.</p><p> </p><p> Suddenly Joe Sexy explodes into the back of Huntingdon, launching him through the ropes to the outside. <p>Prediction scores</p><p> </p><p>

1) Rocky Smith - 4 points</p><p>

-) Temes - 4 points</p><p>

-) KnowYourEnemy - 4 points</p><p> </p><p>

Thanks a lot for participating, guys. All square. Nobody thought I had the balls/stupidity to hot shot the tag titles one month into the diary eh?</p><p> </p><p>

Still not sure what I'm gonna do predictions wise but I might start ripping off some of the other diaries I'm reading and doing a monthly winner. That or a rolling league table up to Supreme Challenge and then maybe another to Christmas Clash. Something like that. In any case we'll start from now and if I go monthly these points can roll over into April so keep em rolling in. [Vince McMahon]IT'S FUN DAMMIT.[/Vince McMahon]</p><p> </p><p>

I *wish* I'd signed Eddie Peak. I wish that so much I even had a sneaky look in the editor at his contract. Eh, I wouldn't hold your breath guys. Uprising results will be up tomorrow, as will the full "go home" Supreme TV card</p>
