WCW Against All Odds

Held on Sunday, Week 2, August 2001

Attendance: 7794

Buy-rate: .16

http://i.imgur.com/AeBWM6Bs.jpg

MATCH 1:

For the WCW Tag Team Championships:

The Natural Born Thrillers vs. The Braintrust

THE MATCH:

Familiar foes faced off in this opening contest, as The Thrillers collided with, well, the Old Thrillers. These pair of grapplers knew each other well, as they utilized some cool counters(especially for men their size). Bobby Heenan shouted out instructions from ringside, and couldn’t help himself as he jumped onto the ring apron near the end of the match. This caught the attention of Chuck Palumbo, who cleverly avoided an aggressive Stasiak trying to attack him from behind. This caused “The Brain” to fall from the apron, allowing Palumbo to nail the Superkick for the three count victory.

POST MATCH:

The dominant Thrillers pose with their belts as we catch some replays. Heenan holds his head, chewing up his boys for screwing this up!

MATCH 2:

For the WCW Cruiserweight Champinoship

Chavo Guerrero Jr.© vs Jushin "Thunder" Liger

THE MATCH:

WCW fans may remember for his sporadic appearances in the “old WCW”, but this match served as an introduction to many of the legend that is Jushin Liger. Liger went move for move with the sleazy champion Chavo, and even had him on the ropes several times. But, Jushin’s incredible ability couldn’t undue Chavo’s cheating ways. Chavo used a roll-up with the tights of course, to retain his gold.

POST MATCH:

Chavo smirks due to his victory, but Jushin still gets the cheers from the crowd for his performance. No one is stealing Chavo's spotlight, as he runs in to clock Jushin with his belt. Chavo stomps away, as some unknown music hits...

MATCH 3:

An Unholy Prophecy

"Sugar" Shane Helms vs. TAJIRI

THE MATCH:

Helms couldn’t afford to be overconfident in this match, as the dangerous TAJIRI and the looming Whipwreck and James Mitchell lurked in the background. Still, Helms still looked to punish Tajiri for his actions at last month’s Bash at the Beach. Tajiri impressed with his unique style, but was willing to take the loss - when Mikey ran in to jump Helms!

POST MATCH:

The duo continued to pound on Helms, until TAJIRI spits green mist into the face of Helms. Helms shivers on the mat, while James Mitchell cackles in the background! Message sent!

MATCH 4:

Make Love, & War

Billy Kidman(w/ Torrie Wilson) vs "The Franchise" Shane Douglas(w/ Francine)

THE MATCH:

The blood, and love, feud ends! Billy Kidman and “The Franchise” have been at each other’s throats for months, even years, and chose to end their feud in a no-dq environment. This played more into Shane’s hands, as his ecw ways payed dividends in damaging Kidman. This match also delivered what was promised, as Francine and Torrie made time to run in and have a good ol fashioned catfight, getting the cheers from the mostly male audience. The ending of this chaotic match saw Kidman nailing his patented Shooting Star Press onto Douglas through a table!

POST MATCH:

A damaged Kidman and a disheveled Torrie meet in the ring, and kiss to celebrate their victory. While not an “ah” moment, the crowd cheers this romantic ending to this feud.

MATCH 5:

"The Stuff" & "The Legs"

Lex Luger vs Buff Bagwell(w/Stacy Keibler)

THE MATCH:

Lex was hungry to get his hands on his former “Totally Buff” friend, Buff Bagwell. Lex came out like a house of fire, basking in some basic brawling while Buff cowered to the outside with Stacy Keibler. Buff put a stop to Lex’s momentum with a chop block, and looked to take of one of Lex’s legs out! Lex would power out of Buff’s submission attempts, getting hot and signaling for the torture rack, before Stacy jumped on the apron! While performing a little dance for Lex, who seemed more angry than aroused, buff nailed a Low Blow followed by a Blockbuster to gain the victory.

POST MATCH:

Buff celebrated the only way he can, by flexing for cameras, as Stacy looked impressed! Lex seemed angry at himself for losing his focus in this match, but seemed willing to get his hands on Buff again!

MATCH 6:

E-C-NO!

Rob Van Dam vs Ric Flair

THE MATCH:

RVD’s high paced athleticism was slowed significantly in this matchup. Sure, RVD was able to soar with some high-risk attacks and even a Rolling Thunder, but Naitch kept Van Dam grounded for the most of the match. RVD persevered, looking to put Flair away with a Frog Splash when…

http://i.imgur.com/8b815RNs.jpg

JEFF JARRETT knocked RVD off the ropes, right onto his groin(HIS GROIN). Flair took advantage, locking in the figure four to get the victory.

POST MATCH:

Double J is the first to raise the wrists of the victor, telling RVD to respect his elders! RVD recovers in the ring, as it appears he found himself a new enemy!

MATCH 6:

For the WCW United States Championship

Rey Mysterio© vs Lance Storm

THE MATCH:

This was a stellar midcard showing, possibly proving to WCW’s management that these two deserve a prolonged push. While Storm outclassed an already very good Rey in the ring on a technical note, Rey used his agility and Lucha Libre background to slip out and counter Storm’s slow style. In the end, agility overcame intelligence, as Rey flew off the top to nail a frog splash to retain the strap.

REY MYSTERIO

http://i.imgur.com/PtLGyrAt.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/AeBWM6Bs.jpg

MATCH 7:

No Count-Outs

DDP vs Kanyon

THE MATCH:

Lawler designed this match to try to contain the madness between DDP and Kanyon, but… it didn’t really work. Yes, this environment allowed the pair of WCW greats to get the brawling out of their systems, but didn’t really stop them from bending the rules. After a ref bump, Kanyon was quick to bring a chair into the ring, but can’t use it after a discuss clothesline from DDP! DDP grabs the chair, shrugs, and uses it against Kanyon! The shot knocks out Kanyon, getting DDP the victory!

POST MATCH:

DDP is happy to grab the win, but the commentators are left to question: did Kanyon deserve to be hit for bringing the chair in the ring, or was Kanyon screwed here?

MATCH 8:

A Small Measure of Revenge...

Sting vs Jeff Jarrett

THE MATCH:

An electric crowd was hoping to see their hero, Sting, take out Jeff Jarrett, especially after Jarrett’s actions earlier tonight. Jeff was sure to capitalize on that, bad-mouthing every person in sight. They kept it simple, as two “old school” guys would. The finish saw Jeff look to apply the Figure Four- just as good ‘ol Naitch did earlier - onto the Stinger! The tension rose when…

http://i.imgur.com/gje40fKs.jpg

A limping RVD pushed his way onto the ramp! Jarrett dares “The Whole Damn Show” to come in the ring, but he turns his back to Sting! Scorpion Death Drop!

POST MATCH:

Sting is happy to finally shut up Jarrett, and RVD is smirking on the ramp! It seems that, through common enemies, Sting and RVD have formed a slight partnership!

STING

http://i.imgur.com/Qa1HN0Pt.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/AeBWM6Bs.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/aaYv47Gs.jpg

Booker T is seen pacing towards the ring, right before our main event, when a swarm of security guards stand in his way! Out of them emerges Jerry Lawler, who’s sorry he has to do this. He tells Booker he can’t let him anyway near the main event. Booker is upset, but doesn’t take it on Jerry. He’ll stay determined backstage.

http://i.imgur.com/AeBWM6Bs.jpg

MAIN EVENT

For the WCW World Heavyweight Championship

"Big Poppa Pump" Scott Steiner vs "Big Sexy" Kevin Nash

THE MATCH

Now there’s no Booker to worry about - but Steiner still faced a difficult challenge in the form of Kevin Nash! “Big Sexy” was determined tonight, but kept his cool in a way that only Kevin Nash can. Steiner was Steiner, maintaining his ability to brawl along with Nash, and toss him around like a sack of potatoes. These two just have some special chemistry with one another, as they again put on Match of the Night. In the end, Steiner was able to make Nash pass out to the Steiner Recliner to keep his gold!

POST MATCH:

Booker followed the rules - he didn’t play a hand in the main event at all. But that didn’t mean he couldn’t show up after the match! Booker runs down the ring and nails Steiner with a Book End to end the show!

Hint, Hint, Wink, Wink http://www.greydogsoftware.com/forum/showthread.php?t=528799&page=36

Also, TIL who Mongoose McQueen is. He's got a decent look, but I was mostly scouting Clint Bobski.

Notes here:

Hope you aren't mad about my recent prediction prize answer. :p

Love seeing you use the style you used in our ultimate bookers tournament here. :)

Also, I love that on pretty much every prediction sheet in every diary, the first few predictions to answer the Bonus Questions, set the tone for the rest of the answers to the bonus questions. By that I mean, its easy to think "hmm, idk, I'll look at the people who answered before me." That being said, I tried to avoid that with my answers. :p

I've already thanked ya for the comments, but I'll do it again. Mostly, I've based the prediction stuff off of guys like Beejus and TFC. Plus, since I'm not doing weekly tv, I gotta make the prediction contests somewhat interesting!

Buff Bagwell - "New" "hot" "star" on the rise. I like Buff with Stacy. Having problems finding a place for Stacy in my own game, so good on you for finding her an arm to hang on.

WWF Steal: Taka Michinoku!

Man, don't hate on Buff! I love me some Buff! He isn't even a backstage problem! But, yeah, his gimmick is stale. At least he finally got a girl(that's not his mom)

And the conservative answer gets the win! I would love to get Eddie, Y2J, Raven, or anybody on that level, but TAKA is more than welcome for me.

I'll note that about Nash.
