Mysterious Popularity Loss

Recommended Posts

I am playing as the WWF in a 1997 mod, and I'm experiencing a strange issue. I'm currently in October 1999 and no matter what I do, The Rock is losing pop. I had him at 98 pop going into Mania 15 but he dropped to 94 after dropping the belt to Austin. I then had him build to a face turn for a few months and had the Corporation turn on him after a run of losses. The run of losses saw him drop to 91 pop. I wasn't too fussed about this as I was certain I'd get his pop back up with a strong face run. My problem is, The Rock has now not lost a match in four months. Every angle he is in gets 95 or above, but mostly 100's. His matches are always rated highly. However, he is losing pop. At the end of September, I had him beat HBK on Raw and he went up to 93. 3 weeks later and he's back down to 90. I first noticed this when WCW ran a negative story about WWF. All of the workers in my national battle took a slight pop hit. Everyone else is going up again, but Rock just keeps on dropping no matter what I do.

Any ideas on why this might be the case?

Workers can temporarily surpass it, but their pop will slowly go back down again.</p>

Do a test game. Copy your save game to the desktop. Now load your game. Go to editor. Go to user preferences. Turn off gimmick effects, aims, booking times, and anything else required for a show. So you are free to run a show without any restrictions. You are turning off gimmick effects as a test to see if his gimmick is stale or not. He may simply need a gimmick change.

Now on the booking show

If you are like me you have clone angles. If not just use free style angles.

the text of the angle does not matter just make sure he is alone in them or attacking someone else.

angle setup

major success on screen base the angle off his best stat. Do not use entertainment. We are trying a test not a random effect. Time of angles is 30 mins. impact is major. Since minor would give you a less effect. If there is 2 people in the angle make both people on screen always.

Do about 10 of those. I actually do 2 walking, 2 interviews, 2 entrances, 2 warms ups, 2 attacks, 1 celebration for every match. I only care about building people so people got to be on tv to get them over.

Now match

Do a 16 min match against anybody. open match rock wins, pinfall that is it. save it. After do a celebration angle based on the angle setup. After the main event do a hype video for the rock based on the angle setup. It will also help you show rating actually. I always do at least one video at the end just in case. FYI 16 20 30 are usually the sweet spots for less negatives.

After all that check the rock after the show. I bet he has gained pop. If so turn on gimmick effects then repeat everything.

If he goes down again after all that you might want to change his gimmick.

Sorry to hijack this thread but does copying your save to the desktop work? I tried that for the first time a couple weeks ago so I could make a backup of my save and the next time I loaded my game it said my database was corrupt. First and only time that's happened to me.

<p>I have problems building pop, too. </p><p> </p><p>

I'm in a 1987 WWF game and lost Adrian Adonis to JCP, but as some kind of punishment I booked him to lose against Honky Tonk Man in the main event of Wrestling Challenge, his last show before he left the company. The match got a 70 rating, Honky won cleanly by pinfall in an open match (he has a gimmick rating of "Great", too).</p><p> </p><p>

Now Adonis lost 2 points overall pop (as planned), but Honky, who I wanted to put over, lost 1 point overall pop, too. </p><p> </p><p>

I have no problems pushing Enhancement Talents to Lower Midcarders, but I hardly get Upper Midcarders or Main Eventers to gain some pop :/</p>

That could be why because, and someone correct me if I'm wrong, I think workers with Gimmicky based gimmicks can't be in very long segments or matches. If anything, Honky Tonk's gimmick should be Weasel based because of how he portrayed the character, but that's just my personal opinion.</p><p> </p><p> EDIT: If I am incorrect as to what base HTM's gimmick is (sorry, haven't looked at the default Golden Age data in ages), feel free to correct me. <img alt=":)" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/smile.png.142cfa0a1cd2925c0463c1d00f499df2.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p>

<p>Yes, he has a gimmicky type gimmick (and yes, Weasel would be more appropriate <img alt=":)" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/smile.png.142cfa0a1cd2925c0463c1d00f499df2.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> ).</p><p> </p><p>

I took that into account and the match length was only 7 or 8 minutes.</p><p> </p><p>

Can't imagine any reason for the pop loss.</p><p> </p><p>

However, I used to turn the dirt sheet off but I think I will use it now so next time I hope to get a clue of what went wrong.</p>

IIRC, gimmicky gimmicks will lose pop when the worker loses to a realistic or legitimate gimmick, but HTM won based on what you posted. Turning on the dirt sheet notes might be the way to go.</p>

It's not in the editor because, as far as I know, it's the result of a weighted roll at the start of a new save. (related to the destiny roll, I think)</p>
