CWT: Better Call Saul [T-Verse]

What's the story with Championship Wrestling from Tennessee?

Once considered one of the Big Four of the US wrestling scene, it's been a hard four years for the oldest wrestling promotion in the United States. While it seems impossible to believe now, there was once a time when the CWT was the hottest company in the South East and even the Mid Atlantic. Sure the product and the some of the wrestlers were a little long in the tooth, but that crew had talent, including one of the biggest stars of the modern era, Roscoe Carmine. In addition to Roscoe, CWT had a good amount of younger talent like Cloud James and Sean Riley and, oddly enough, a small cruiserweight division, anchored by DRAGON's workhorse, Cameron Cody, and the current AWC World Heavyweight champion, Kris Phoenix. With TV on Sports America and PPVs on America Option, Champion Wrestling from Tennessee was poised to take on the rest of the world with its brand of Tennessee Traditional wrasslin'.

Of course that's not what happened. Instead, the promotion made a couple of bad moves and fell into financial troubles. These troubles lead to big, expensive stars like Roscoe, Cloud, and Sean leave for bigger pastures. And as the stars left, so did CWT's exposure as both Sports America and America Options dropped the company like a bad habit. CWT Championship Wrestling was able to find a home on the graveyard slot on Southern Preview, but that is a small consolation prize for a company that was only a few years from battling the current giants of wrestling, AWF, PWI, and DRAGON for the right to call themselves the best of the Big Four. Heck, right now they are lucky to be competing with the crown jewel of the Hollywood Championship Wrestling and The Club, a company that was dropped by The Danger! Network months ago.

It's not all doom and gloom for the Tennessee based promotion though. Jesse Mills, the man who was brought into the company in a talent swap with DRAGON in 2013 after CWT folded its cruiserweight division, has been a revelation and the company still employs one of the greatest veterans in the world, The Ghost Rider. Most recently, former MMA promoter Saul Keaton has joined the company as part owner and head booker. Bringing a fresh mind (and a whole lot of cash), Saul has started the long process to bring CWT into the 22nd century.

How is this diary going to play out?

The past couple of diary ideas that I've had, including the one that I posted in the preview thread, have been from the perspective of my avatar James Heatly (now playable in T-Verse Diamond!) with varying levels of silliness (thanks MHero for adding that bit about him travelling from the GDSverse
;)
). However each idea fell to the wayside as I keep running into a problem: I'm not that great at creating storylines in and out of the game. I would either run out of ideas or the tone of the ideas just wouldn't match up with each other.

For this diary I'm going to stick to the basics. Each show will be recapped in a small, kayfabed summary. Backing up these recaps will be some "out of character" content and some, yet-to-be determined, reader interaction. To keep things interesting and different, instead of using James Heatly, I will be using Saul Keaton as my user character (hence the name of this diary). Even though I won't be making posts from the viewpoint of Saul, I will be taking the character's personality and tastes into account when making decisions.

Why Championship Wrestling from Tennessee

Even though I've never played with the promotion long term, I've always had a soft-spot for CWT since the Thunder-verse's inception. I'm also a big sucker for reclamation projects. And this version of CWT certainly is a reclamation project. Finally, by playing with CWT, I am right in the middle of a very competitive Regional Battle scene, something that I have missed since coming back to TEW (I've mostly been toying around with 0/0/0/0 starts).

What's next?

Since the T-Verse isn't as known as the Real World or even the C-Verse, I'll be giving a quick overview of where the promotion stands, what moves I've made at the very beginning of the game, as well as previewing the first show of the year.

In the meantime…

What people would you like to see pushed/signed in CWT?

From in an in-game perspective, CWT is a product that is centered on Traditional wrestling first and foremost. So while, there can be moments of "shades of grey" (Cult is set to Very Low), you are going to be getting a lot of good old black vs. white storytelling. The product is also pretty family friendly. Casual fans will enjoy the heavy emphasis on mainstream storytelling, while the more hardcore fans will (hopefully) stay for the relatively realistic contests that take place in the ring (Realism is set to Medium). There are also elements of Modern, Hardcore, Pure, and Daredevil, but these elements are rare (especially since the end of the cruiserweight division). </span></div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:'Arial Narrow';"> </span></div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:'Arial Narrow';">

While we are on the subject, I've got to say that I really do enjoy the improvements that have been made to the Product Detail section in TEW 2016. I could give or take the removal of match length, but everything else is really nice. Being able to set in-rings rules is a huge potential time saver and the added definitions are a nice touch. I mean as a veteran of TEW I know that Hardcore and Aerial skills would be lessened in this product, but it is a good thing that the game spells it out for you. The additional match focus requirements are a positive step in mechanizing the product, especially for promotions like CHIKARA, POW, or SAW where comedy plays a large focus.</span></div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:'Arial Narrow';"> </span></div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:'Arial Narrow';">

</span></div></div></div></div><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:'Arial Narrow';"><strong>Where does the company stand in the world?</strong></span></div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:'Arial Narrow';">

Like I said in the opening post, CWT is a shell of its former self. Back when the T-Verse first debuted, CWT was arguably the 3rd biggest promotion in the United States. PWI and AWF held the top two spots, but you really could flip a coin between CWT and DRAGON, the Tri-State based LuchaResu based promotion (think DragonGate). DRAGON was more over across the US as a whole, but Championship Wrestling from Tennessee had a strangle hold in the South East. The company had an overness around 75 at the start of 2012, a feat that only the Pro Wrestling Integrity and Awesome Wrestling Federation can claim today.</span></div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:'Arial Narrow';"> </span></div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:'Arial Narrow';">

At the start of 2016 (the starting point of this mod), CWT sits as the #6 promotion in the United States and #12 in the world. Thankfully, CWT still has a bit of name value and we will really only need to watch out for the top four promotion in the country when it comes to having our workers being poached (the aforementioned PWI, AWF, DRAGON, and new comer Hollywood Championship Grappling). Losing its Cult status years ago, CWT now competes with the hardcore promotion Pro Wrestling SUX in the Great Lakes, Puerto Rico's Legacy Wrestling Alliance, and the reality TV inspired The Club for regional supremacy. </span></div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:'Arial Narrow';"> </span></div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:'Arial Narrow';">

As it was in the past, the promotion is still the most over with their fans in their home region of the South East (45%). Interestingly enough, the second most popular region for CWT isn't the Mid Atlantic (as it was in 2012), but the wrestling hotbed that is the Great Lakes (31% vs. 36% respectively). For people new to the Thunder-verse, the amount of wrestling seen in the Great Lakes might be surprising. Four promotions call the region home including PWSUX, the US's longest running women's promotion, American Women's Wrestling, comedy promotion Paragons of Wrestling, and American Wrestling Council member Bluegrass Championship Wrestling. Rounding out the rest of CWT is the heartland of the United States, the Mid South and Mid West (27% each). </span></div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:'Arial Narrow';"> </span></div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:'Arial Narrow';">

</span></div></div></div></div><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:'Arial Narrow';"><strong>How's the roster?</strong></span></div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:'Arial Narrow';">

The roster isn't what it used to be, but it's a solid core of wrestlers. The biggest issue that I have with the roster at the moment is how similar everyone is. Not in personality. CWT has a good variety when it comes to characters. No, I mean that I can more or less sum up each member of the roster with the following sentence: This worker is a good hand who, while not extremely exciting, has a strong understand of the basics of wrestling and is pretty good at talking and brawling. There is only one member of the roster that can be described as anything other than a brawler in the ring, Laredo Streets. Unfortunately, while Streets is a good mat based wrestler, he's also a negative influence in the locker room and is a lightweight to boot. Unless he bulks up and gets a personality transplant, he's more likely to be out of a job than to be pushed up the card.</span></div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:'Arial Narrow';"> </span></div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:'Arial Narrow';">

With that issue aside, I do like most of the roster from a character standpoint. I've always been a sucker for occult/dark gimmicks, so I will feel right at home booking the company's top stable Life Without Fear as well as CWT's personal grim reaper, The Ghost Rider. I'm also interested in how the mentor/protégé relationship between Smokin' Stevie Gunn and Duke Dynamite will play out. </span></div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:'Arial Narrow';"> </span></div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:'Arial Narrow';">

Really, the only problem I see is that the roster is light on babyfaces. You have Big Bubba and Luther Mack in the main event and the teams of Duane Davies and Rick E. Waters and Stevie Gunn and Duke Dynamite in the upper midcard, but after that there are only three more faces on the entire roster. Everyone else are heels. The good news is that this issue is pretty easy to fix, especially in this version of TEW2016 when I can just hire a couple of locals for the night to eat some pinfalls. </span></div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:'Arial Narrow';"> </span></div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:'Arial Narrow';">

The promotional overview is running a bit longer than expected. In the next post, I'll be reviewing the initial direction of the promotion (owner goals, personal goals, and the like), talk a bit about the initial moves I've made in-game, and hopefully will have a preview card for the first CWT Championship Wrestling show of the year. Before the first show I'll also try and get around to posting a visual overview of the roster. </span></div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:'Arial Narrow';"> </span></div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:'Arial Narrow';">

So what are the goals for this game?

From a perspective of the game's history JD Briscoe hasn't the best business man. And the goals that I got this game support this. While most owners would be asking me to make X amount of money or grow the company, JD just doesn't want us to go broke and/or fall past a regional sized promotion. There are a couple of actual restrictions. He doesn't want me signing guys with less than a 35 rating in basics and psychology nor does he want to bring in any Japanese Juniors. I mean I guess I could have brought in a raw prospect and hide him in dark matches throughout most of the diary or hired a talented brawler or technician that also happened to be a Japanese Junior, but let's face it, I might as well just be playing without owner goals at all.

But, like I said in my opening post, I won't just be looking at the owner goals for in-game direction. I'm also taking the personalities of JD and Saul into account as well. For example, JD Briscoe is a fan of larger wrestlers. Because of this you probably won't see a light weight wrestler shooting up the card anytime soon. At the same time, you probably aren't going to see me pushing non-athletes either. My user character, Saul Keaton, has a background promoting MMA and, besides being influenced by MMA, is going to gravitate towards guys that can go in the ring.

Maybe more importantly than Saul Keaton's background is his personality. While being optimistic and dependable, Saul Keaton, at his core, is a manipulative individual and completely ruthless. In games' past, I tend to be a huge care bear, often ignoring all of the diplomatic aspects of the game in favor of just hiring a bunch of "nice guys". This time, I plan on embracing the character of Saul and will not only get involved in the backstage politics, but will probably stir up some trouble as well. I always wondered what happened if you used the "humiliation" and "burial" options when putting together a match.

Keeping in the spirit of playing to Saul's personality, I tried to make my user stats reflect how Saul has been portrayed in the T-Verse. As a former CEO and master manipulator I feel like he'd like he'd be better at negotiating contracts and getting people to do what he wants when he wants (motivating and diplomacy). However, his lack of experience with the wrestling world would hinder his creativity and to a lesser extent his overall leadership of a wrestling locker room. Look below for his exact stats as we enter 2016:
  • Negotiating: 6

  • Motivating: 6

  • Creativity: 3

  • Leadership: 4

  • Diplomacy: 6

So what changes have been made before the first show?

It's been two months since Saul took the book (and 49% of the company), so he really hasn't had that much time to make CWT his own. Looking at the in-game data he's only made two major moves so far: pulling the trigger on Jesse Mill's CWT World Heavyweight title victory at title win at the Turkey Day Throwdown and hiring a former baseball player, Tex Gruber, to help even out the loop sided face/heel divide. Saul isn't a very patient man, so I will be taking a hard look at the wrestlers on my roster in this coming month as well as looking to add a fresh face or two.

Beyond that, I've made a few business decisions on the first day that should help get CWT back in the right direction. The first thing I did was up our production values from semi-pro to professional and signed a new music deal to allow us to use independent and small label artists (i.e. minor license). It cost $4,500 up front and will cost the company an additional $20,000 per month, but I think the rewards are worth it. If I didn't upgrade, we would be behind Pro Wrestling SUX in overall production values, hindering our overall show grades in the process. And we are going to need every percentage point we can get to beat out the competition in the regional battles.

The next thing that I did was try and expand our coverage in the US. At the start of the game, we start with a graveyard slot on Southern Preview for our weekly television. Southern Preview is a regional commercial station with very small coverage in the Mid South, South East, and South West. This set up is awkward as ideally you would want to have coverage across the whole US. But even beyond that the setup is missing CWT's second and third most popular regions (Great Lakes and Mid Atlantic) as well as the Mid West. To help solve this problem I've signed CWT in syndication deals in those three regions. The coverage is tiny, but tiny is better than nothing. Plus, with six regions covered, I believe that we will eventually have enough popularity in enough regions to move to a national station in the future.

To continue the theme, I also signed deals with Southern Preview and the Great Lakes, Mid Atlantic, and Mid West syndication broadcasters for our live events. I don't have a ton of experience with TEW2016's broadcaster system, but I know in the past versions, TV deals cut into attendance numbers. If this is the case, then I hope that I made the right move here and this doesn't tank our finances.

Finally, the event schedule for CWT needed some work. While I left the show length as is for now (2 hours for most shows; 2 hours and 30 minutes for our final event of the year), the timing of the events were all over the place. Heck, most of them were schedule on the same day we run our weekly TV tapings. I ended up moving all of the events to the 2nd Saturday of the month. As far as I can tell, we will be the only major event running that day and the lack of double booking my own show should help keep my aging roster fresh. The consistent date will also help with booking the promotion as I will always have four weeks of TV before each event special.

What's next?

I've introduced the diary and the promotion and talked about what I did on day one. Now it's time to get to the good stuff.

In the meantime…

Let's take a look at the first prediction card. Also, feel free to let me know what type of in-game information you want to see for this diary?

#1 Contender's Match: Big Bubba vs. Luther Mack

Could go either way really, both popular, both fairly talented by CWT standards. I'm going with L-Mack because I infinitely prefer him to Big Bubba.

Six-Man Tag Match: Life Without Fear (Fargo, Jesse, and Sonny) vs. Street Survivors & Tex Gruber

Definitely makes sense to give Life Without Fear the win here. I like the idea of the Fargo turn that his profile hints at, but even if you decide to go down that route I think it's probably too early for it.

CWT Mid-Southern: Darius King © vs. ???

I like DK, and I really like The Coach. Wouldn't be the least bit surprised if he drops it to a new arrival or a return here, but I hope he doesn't.

Singles Match: George Brooks vs. The Ghost Rider

Somebodies getting squashed.

Singles Match: Duke Dynamite vs. Matt Gibson

Tough one, but I'm predicting Matt to get the upper hand and Smokin' Stevie to save Duke from the brothers. The Gibsons need to look like monsters, and I don't think the loss would hurt Dynamite too much.

Jesse, once again, rants and raves about how the biggest flaw of man is their conscious and how people keep themselves from self-realization because of their self-doubt and worrying about how other see themselves (honestly it was really confusing and some of the fans have started to turn on Jesse's preaching). He eventually brings it back around to the number one's contender match, questioning how could he be beaten by a man who cares too much about the fans (Luther Mack) or a man who is too worried about the choices he's made in the past (Big Bubba). The first show is in the books and I have three initial thoughts: Holy crap is there a lot of things to do with a company of that size during the first show, I can't believe Jesse Mills isn't suited for his gimmick, and everything went better than expected.

Holy crap is there a lot of things to do with a company of that size during the first show…

I haven't started with pre-made company that was larger than small TEW2016 was released, and I was slightly overwhelmed with all of the changes that I needed to make. Throw "figuring out how I wanted to report and recap the shows" and you get a situation where I forget to change the gimmick of not one, but two wrestlers, Duke Dynamite and Mike Gibson. Thankfully, I remembered to change both of the Street Survivors to a Blue Collar gimmick (their Street Fighter gimmicks were set to Poor and Awful respectively).

Speaking of mistakes, went I was figuring out the build up to New Year's Wrestle-lution, I was certain that CWT Championship Wrestling was a 90 minute show. Yeah, it turns out MHero and company set the show to 60 minutes. Well, at least that one was easy to work around. It might not be realistic to be able to change the length of a TV show without warning, but if the game is going to let me do it, I'm not going to complain. Am I going to keep the show 90 minutes after New Year's Wrestle-lution? In the immortal words of Lex Luger, "I DON'T KNOW!"

The last change I made before running the show was changing the Mid-Southern Title from a Low level title to a Midcard level title. It's probably the inexperience of running large promotions talking, but I have zero use for Low level titles. As a booker I'm generally very conservative, so the concept of a lower midcarder with a title that they don't want the moment they are considered a midcarder doesn't make much sense to me. It might be different if I'm running a National promotion and have a really large roster, but that's not what CWT is right now. In addition to being a bit conservative with the roster (i.e. top-down booking), I usually keep my main storylines centered around the title scenes. And I really am not in a place where I can give lower midcarders and below constant TV time. Well not unless I'm trying to get them up the card.

I can't believe Jesse Mills isn't suited for his gimmick…

I'm not going to lie, being told by the game that Jesse Mills' Cult Leader gimmick was not suited to Mills, was disappointing. Seeing the grades that resulted because of them were even more disappointing. Thank god I didn't put him in the main event. I probably would have lost popularity! That said it's not a total loss, as the game was nice enough to allow me to change his gimmick without having to turn him into a face. Hopefully, he'll do better with an Evil Incarnate gimmick.

In the same vein, Sonny isn't suited in being a "Weirdo." Something tells me that unlike Jesse Mills, this was a deliberate choice by the modding team. In any case, I'm going to make in a Sidekick and hope for the best. Sonny might not be the best wrestler in the world, but he really is perfect as the fall guy for Life Without Fear. Then again, I'm sure he'd work out well getting beat up by the likes of Silverback and King Edward.

Everything went better than expected!

All of the complaining aside, the show was about as good as I could have hoped. Yes, the opener and the following angle were a little flat, but the rest of the show went off without a hitch. Well, Saul Keaton and JD Briscoe clash at the announce deck, but that's small potatoes. Let's focus on the good:

  • The Graduate "invented a new catchphrase" during the opening segment and gained 5 more points in microphone.

  • George Brooks and The Ghost Rider have great chemistry. Ok, so George Brooks isn't going anywhere up the card anytime soon, but great chemistry is always a good thing.

  • Darius King and The Coach have great chemistry. This will become important sooner than later.

  • The Great Colorado V and IV have GREAT chemistry. I still don't know exactly what to do with The Great Colorado (I guess I need to watch some old regional wrestling promos on YouTube), but this is a good start. Of course it pales in comparison to the following…

  • The Great Colorado V is officially the protégé of The Great Colorado IV. Fake life imitates fake art!

  • The only backstage news was Big Bubba being sentenced to buy drinks by Smokin' Stevie Gunn because he's too much of an introvert. And Bubba improves on being more social. I don't know why being an invert is bad, but it's better than dealing with negative backstage interactions.

How did you guys do at predicting the show?

Good first show, looking forward to seeing how things develop.

Team Match: Big Bubba & Luther Mack vs. Life Without Fear (Fargo and Jesse)

Really torn on this one. On the one hand I think maybe Fargo gets the victory and perhaps is worked into the title picture. But there's part of me thinking Bubba and Mack either get a DQ win or one of them scores the pin and gets the title show out of it. Should be fun to see how it goes.

Singles Match: Mike Gibson vs. Smokin' Stevie Gunn

I like the Gibsons, don't care for Stevie. Would like to see them level it up anyway.

Singles Match: Laredo Streets vs. The Ghost Rider

Poor old Streets and Brooks.

Tag Team Match: Killer McCree & Rico Diaz vs. Street Survivors

To set up the Street Survivors eventually getting their own back is my guess.

Singles Match: Tex Gruber vs. The Great Colorado V

Not a huge fan of either but Colorado is more important to CWT so he's my pick.

The announce team of JD Briscoe, The Graduate, and Saul Keaton runs down tonight's card, before getting into the issue everybody has been wondering about for the past week: Who is going to challenge Jesse Mills for the CWT World Heavyweight Championship? JD announces that the Board of Directors thought long and hard about it and have decided that due to the reasons why the main event ended the way it did that both Big Bubba and Luther Mack will face Jesse Mills in a Triangle match. The Graduate is flummoxed at the champion being forced to defend his title in a match in which he could lose the title without being pinned, but Saul counters The Graduate, saying that if Jesse Mills wanted a one-on-one contest, he should have waited until after the main event to make his presence known.

Killer McKree & Rico Diaz vs. Street Survivors

Tag Team Match

The opening contest sees the official team-up of a Killer McKree and Rico Diaz on CWT TV. The new duo try and start their partnership on the right foot, by jumping the Street Survivors before the opening bell. Even though McKree and Diaz looked at times like future title contenders, Duane and Rick were able to turn the tide of the fight due to their superior tag team experience. After a miscue caused Rico Diaz to be thrown over the top rope, the Street Survivors were able to end the match with their signature stereo discus elbows, at the expense of Killer McKree.

In a decent match, Street Survivors defeated Killer McKree & Rico Diaz in 9:33 when Duane Davies defeated Killer McKree by pinfall with a Second Helping.

Backstage Segment

Walking backstage, the victorious Street Survivors bump into Life Without Fear. This is a special moment because, as up until now, Life Without Fear have been seen either in the ring or have been shot on location. Jesse sizes up the tired Duane and Rick, walking around the tag team like a shark in the water (all the while dragging the CWT World Heavyweight championship along the ground). Being used to Jesse's act, the Street Survivors patiently wait for Mills to start yet another one of his monologues, however it never comes. All that comes is pain. Sonny and Fargo pounce on the seven time team champions as Jesse laughs in the background.

Laredo Streets vs. The Ghost Rider

Singles Match

Like his tag team partner before him, Laredo Street puts up a fight against The Ghost Rider, but it just isn't enough to put the un-living legend down. The highlight of the match was seeing Laredo lock Rider into an ankle lock, which is no small feat I can assure you. Unfortunately for the young Texan, this only seemed to make The Ghost Rider angry.

In an extremely short match, The Ghost Rider defeated Laredo Streets in 4:51 by pinfall with a Your Last Ride.

In-Ring Segment

For the second week in a row, The Ghost Rider looks give his fallen opponent some extra curriculars. The Ghost Rider picks up the seemly lifeless Larredo Streets for another Your Last Ride, but is stopped by George Brooks swinging a steel chair to the roar of the crowd. Memphis's marque monster doesn't go quietly, only being forced to retreat after Laredo is able to get his hands on the ring bell.

Tex Gruber vs. The Great Colorado V

Singles Match

After a year of disappointment, The Great Colorado V makes his 2016 debut against Tex Gruber. While still showing holes in his game, much to the chagrin of his mentor, the 25 year-old masked grappler is still more than enough for the former baseball player. Through constant direction from Colorado IV, Colorado V scientifically picked apart Gruber's old pitching arm before hitting a picture perfect snap scoop powerslam for the 1-2-3.

In a decent match, The Great Colorado V defeated Tex Gruber in 7:44 by pinfall with a Boulder Slam.

Backstage Segment

We cut to The Coach, Silverback, and Darius King, midway through their press conference, fielding softball questions from the "reporters". After announcing that Silverback's contract issues have been resolved and to expect him in action next week, The Coach asks for one final question. A nameless reporter asks a question that has been asked at the end of every presser, "Who will face Darius King for the Mid-Southern title?"

The Coach starts to give his usual song and dance about how's he found the perfect opponent for King and everyone will have to wait, before being interrupted by an unfamiliar voice. The voice tells The Coach that he's is wrong, Darius King does have a challenger. The trio are outraged at the thought and demand to know this source of "fake news" is. The camera pans into the a sea of reporters and the man behind the voice stands up. It's Manu Samoa!!! Manu tells The Coach that he knows King's opponent because he's holding the contract with his name on it. Manu tells Darius to sleep with the title tonight, because tomorrow it's coming home to the Isle of Samoa.

Mike Gibson vs. Smokin' Stevie Gunn

Singles Match

People looking at the summary results might get the idea that Stevie Gunn score a victory over a man that has been alive less than Gunn has been wrestling. And while they will technically be right (the best kind of right), the fans who watched this match would have a different opinion. From the start of the match till the end it was clear that Mike Gibson had one goal, destroy Stevie Gunn's left knee. The light heavyweight attacked the knee so heavily that he forgoed multiple potential pinning situations just to attack the knee even more. This one track mind did allow Gunn to momentarily get the upperhand around the 13 minute mark. Before Stevie was able to take control of the match, the other half of the tag team champions, Matt Gibson, stormed out from the back, attacking the unexpecting Smokin' Stevie Gunn. The tag team champs continued to assault the wrestling legend until being run off by the presence of Duke Dynamite.

In a bout that had good heat and decent wrestling, Smokin' Stevie Gunn defeated Mike Gibson in 13:06 when Mike Gibson was disqualified when Matt Gibson ran in and attacked Smokin' Stevie Gunn.

In-Ring Segment

The ring announcer starts to introduce the main event, but is interrupted by former CWT Mid-Southern champion King Edward. After taking time to properly adjust his cape, Edward angrily yells into the microphone that he's sick and tired of being overlooked and under booked because he sold away his right to a Mid-Southern title rematch three months ago. As Edward puts it, "Why should I be punished for re-negotiating a contract? Do you know how much money it takes to run a kingdom!?!" The self-proclaimed King of Tennessee end his tantrum by decreeing an open challenge for New Year's Wrestle-ution.

Big Bubba & Luther Mack vs. Life Without Fear (Jesse/Fargo)

Six-Man Tag Team Match

In life, very small changes can lead to very big outcomes. After weeks of losing the crowd, tonight the re-focused Jesse Mills had the crowd eating out of the palm of his hand as he and his partner, Fargo Korben Life Without Fear took turns isolating Big Bubba from tagging his temporary ally, Luther Mack. Unfortunately for Life Without Fear, karma caught up with them as the men Life Without Fear assaulted earlier in the night (Duane Davies and Rick E. Waters) came out for some payback, helping Big Bubba and Luther Mack win the match in the process.

In a bout that had great heat and decent wrestling, Big Bubba and Luther Mack defeated Life Without Fear II in 18:47 when Big Bubba defeated Jesse Mills by pinfall with a Big Bubba Bash following interference from Duane Davies. During the match we also had Rick E. Waters run in and attack L-Mack.

Maybe it's was just my experience with small/local promotions in the Great Lakes region (or maybe I'm just paranoid), but I was really worried about the regional battles when I started this diary. After our last show, not so much. I've seen PWSUX, The Club, and AWW all get C+ before (and even a rare B-), but I'm now pretty confident that I will be able to win all of the regional battles until we rise to Cult (or the diary ends, whichever one comes first). </span></div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:'Arial Narrow';"> </span></div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:'Arial Narrow';">

My biggest takeaway from this week was that The Ghost Rider really is the best thing that CWT has at the moment and it's not even close. Over the last two weeks, he is carrying two of the lowest men on the roster to matches and angles that would be acceptable on any promotion's show in the country. To pull back the curtain a bit, before starting a new game, I already had the rough outlines for New Year's Wrestle-lution and the shows that you just saw. The reason why The Ghost Rider was kept out of the main event scene for the first month was because I was worried about his age (43). While I know I would have been fine in the short run if the the game decided he was in the advanced stages of "Time Decline," that (and his contract status) would have influenced how I booked him going forward. </span></div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:'Arial Narrow';"> </span></div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:'Arial Narrow';">

Well wouldn't you know it, if The Ghost Rider not only isn't on his last legs, but isn't on the Time Decline at all! The only person on the list right now is the 47 year-old Smokin' Stevie Gunn would is 11 years past his prime, which isn't that bad considering he's semi-retired anyway. </span></div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:'Arial Narrow';"> </span></div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:'Arial Narrow';">

It wasn't all lollipops and rainbows though as Darius King proves this week that he might be one of the dumbest men on Earth. Our Mid-Southern champ provoked and then brawled with the debuting Manu Samoa. With Darius playing a big part in tonight's show (as well as the event the next day), I took the hardest action that I could at the moment, a fine. It might have moved Saul closer to a having an "iron fist," but Manu thought I was being soft and became angry. I tired to make my new main event player a bit more happy by throwing him $1,000, but then Manu decides to debut with a below average gimmick (Bad Ass). Some people just don't want to be happy. </span></div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:'Arial Narrow';"> </span></div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:'Arial Narrow';">

Speaking of Bad Asses, Duke is going to have to spend one more day as one since I forgot to change his gimmick for yet another show. I did remember to change the rest of the roster though, to varying effects. Mike Gibson and Jesse Mills are doing well with their Bad Ass and Evil Incarnate gimmicks (Above Average and Very Good respectively), but the Masked Invaders failed to excite. Both men have Below Average gimmicks now as Enhancement Talent (Invader I) and Classic Rudo (Invader II). I'm not going to lie. It isn't looking good for these two. Finally, Sonny being Sonny took to his new Sidekick gimmick it goes over as well as most other things he does, extremely Average.</span></div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:'Arial Narrow';"> </span></div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:'Arial Narrow';">

Maybe a face win to get Ghost Rider into the picture, but I'm going to predict the way I'd book CWT - Jesse keeps the belt until Fargo wants it.

CWT Mid-Southern: Darius King © vs. Manu Samoa

King's had the belt for a fair while in game and Manu's a beast, so a new champion I suspect.
