The press are gathered at WWE HQ, given their recent improvement in their relationship with the mainstream media in America, the WWE have been able to attract ESPN, NBC and other leading Sporting tv networks.

Paul Levesque, Shane McMahon and Stephanie McMahon-Levesque walk out in front of the assortment of journalists and Levesque stands at the podium. Paul then begins to recap the women’s revolution that has taken place in the last few years in the WWE and mentions some of the specific big matches and all the talent that the company has seen.

Perhaps to the surprise of some, Levesque mentions how women’s wrestling has also been excelling in other parts of the world and the WWE wants to celebrate that. He mentions the WWE have massively benefited from that as well, citing Becky Lynch from Ireland and Asuka & The Rising Sun on Smackdown.

He then makes an announcement that shocks the audience, the WWE wants to encourage more of this fantastic talent and to do this they will be holding a women’s invitational tournament this summer, for which more details will follow.

“We want to give talent who were overlooked during their time with the company a chance to shine…” says Paul before he gestures to the door and Gail Kim walks out.

Talent from Europe, Asia and Mexico all expected to feature. - Brian Kendrick has drawn serious heat backstage this week as he turned up too high to perform on Monday Night Raw, he has been reportedly send to rehab and will be out of action for 6 months, though some are speculating that the company might well be done with him. - Ember Moon has cancelled her wedding, she was marrying outside of the business but changed her mind. Sasha then tagged in Bayley who was simply better than Dana, Bayley hit Dana with the Bayley-to-Belly. Sasha then climbs into the ring as Bayley covers Dana, gesturing her into the ring to try and break it but Emma wants no part as she drops down off the apron as Bayley gets the win. Both teams could easily have won and the match had plenty of near finishes, none more so than when Karl Anderson hit Jeff with a viscous spinebuster before he just kicked out. The match looked finished as Seth Rollins set up for the Pedigree before Samoa Joe appeared at the top of the ramp and started to walk down pointing at Seth, though Seth smiled and shrugged before going back to the match. WWE World Championship: ‘The Eater of Worlds’ Bray Wyatt vs ‘The Swiss Superman’ Cesaro

After WWE Payback came to an end, not many people in WWE seemed to be lower in the standings than Cesaro, the swiss superman lost a match with former tag team partner Sheamus and as a result had to leave Raw. Less than a week later though, Cesaro showed up on Smackdown Live and won a #1 contender battle royal that then catapulted him to the cusp of the most prestigious title that Smackdown has.

In contrast, Bray Wyatt has gone from strength to strength from defending his title at WrestleMania to being able to outsmart everybody chasing his title so far, can he add Cesaro to the list of people that have tried and failed?

Dolph Ziggler and The Miz seem to have finally found their way back to success by teaming together, the two one time rivals have aligned and with the help of Maryse have moved to the #1 contender spot for the tag team titles, they will definitely be confident going into this one and despite taking a loss this week on Smackdown they will be hoping to win.

WWE Intercontinental Championship Street Fight: ‘The Lunatic Fringe’ Dean Ambrose vs ‘The Lone Wolf’ Baron Corbin

Baron Corbin’s annoyance about missing out on WrestleMania has really consumed him recently and Dean Ambrose has felt the full force of that, the pair have brawled repeatedly and just generally tried to make each other’s lives miserable.

This week on Smackdown Corbin demanded the match, and Dean Ambrose being the fighter he is not only accepted it but escalated it by making it a street fight.

Will the Lone Wolf regret requesting this match? One thing is for certain, it will be vioent and dangerous.

Rightly or wrongly, AJ Styles fully blames Luke Harper for him not being in the main event fighting for the World Championship that he believes is rightfully his. The two brawled viscously during their mixed tag team match on this past Smackdown and it was just an indicator of what is going to happen when the two meet at Backlash.

When Asuka debuted on the main roster two nights after WrestleMania, she vowed that she was not alone and from that moment, the women’s division on Smackdown Live was never the same again. Asuka brought in three of the biggest names in Women’s Wrestling in Io Shirai, Mayu Iwatani and Kairi Hojo and the group have waged war on the women’s division, nobody has been safe from their attacks and the group that Asuka dubbed the ‘total divas’ has been the focus of the Rising Sun’s attacks.

The wild card on the other team is Carmella, being attacked by the Rising Sun backstage motivated her into joining up with three women she has had a lot of trouble with, will she be able to work with her teammates or will that serve as a weakness for her opponents to explore?

The four Japanese women have beaten everybody they have met so far, except for one win this past week for Nikki Bella against Mayu Iwatani. Has Nikki finally found the weakness or was it just a blip for an otherwise unstoppable group?

The Rising Sun absolutely dominate the match, until Naomi finally gains some offense against Mayu Iwatani and then the group really start to gain momentum as Natalya tagged in and worked Mayu down with her mat based style. Carmella then called for the tag and as Natalya came over, she dropped off the apron and walked away. Carmella literally washed her hands of the match as she walked back up the ramp. The Rising Sun flooded the ring as they smelt blood, Io tagged in and hit Nattie with a viscous Tombstone Piledriver to take the win. Right from the start though, Alexa showed she had no interest in having a traditional wrestling match as Becky wanted to lock up and Alexa poked her in the eye, she then proceeded to try and secure a quick pinfall by pulling the tights but Becky kicked out. Becky then proceeded to dominate her long-time rival as she worked her arm before hitting her with a viscous Bex-plex. She then locked in the Dis-armher on Bliss, who just scrambled to get a foot on the bottom rope forcing the hold to be broken. Becky tried to keep the pressure on, but Alexa caught her with a drop toe hold that sent Becky straight into the ref Mike Chioda and laid him out. While Becky tried to check on the ref, Alexa got up and hit her with a viscous DDT before climbing the top rope and hitting the Twisted Bliss to take the win. Cesaro himself seemed right up for it as he flew out of the blocks, quite literally, as he caught Bray with a flying uppercut that laid out the ‘Eater of Worlds’, he then proceeded to dominate the early portion of the match. The lights went out as Cesaro was giving Bray the Cesaro Swing and when they came back on Erick Rowan was on the apron, Cesaro went up and confronted him, before Rowan dropped off the apron and Cesaro turned around walking straight into a Sister Abigail from Bray. Cesaro kicked out of the Sister Abigail at two and a half, which made Bray lose it as he banged the mat in frustration. Bray then went for a second Sister Abigail before Cesaro managed to fight out and managed to sweep Bray before locking in the Sharpshooter as Bray tapped.
