[RELEASE] 1992: Eye of the Storm

Recommended Posts

Nice. Of course I always knew that Bret being in a match cured pretty much everything. And bonus chemistry out the wazoo boosted it by at least 10 points. Still it is nice to see that if you put them in a match with one of the best wrestlers on the planet they don't stink up the joint. And I'm guessing that is at least pop>perf? I run equal so the skills matter even more.

I was just looking through the data as WCW and it appears that two WCW Television Title changes were missed. There should be a Z-Man reign and a third Anderson reign in between what is now Anderson to Bobby Eaton.

<p>The best psych people can put on great matches with pretty much anyone, thus that old saying of "Wrestler X could wrestle a broom/mop and make it look like a million dollars." Bret made Yokozuna look pretty good, he's got to be rated way worse than you have either of the Steiners. The game has always looked at only the highest rated psych in a tag team match when checking the penalty so Bret covered that.</p><p> </p><p>

Look. I've completely accepted that I'll pretty much never be able to use the Steiners in pretty much every mod. That's just how things are (and they seem to fail every single destiny roll I've ever had for years so they never improve more than a couple of points if they'll even go to development), and there are plenty of other options out there so I can book around them. That's based on my simple requirements of my champs having to be able to <strong><span style="text-decoration:underline;">carry</span></strong> a match that could be at least the 2nd best match on the card without penalties (Road Warriors excepted because they start with soooooo much pop, accurately I might add). </p><p> </p><p>

Does that mean that I'm not going to book some things historically? Yep. Ron Simmons is a midcarder forever for me in the 91 mod unless he blows up in development so he'll never get that World Title run (of course Flair isn't getting away and other top guys are there so the vacuum that led to that being a possibility in the first place doesn't come to pass). In positive news, that means I don't push Lex all that much (stupid National Battle system means sometimes I have to which I hate) which is exactly how he should have been booked.</p><p> </p><p>

Again, the main point of my original post was to point out that several key people in the 92 mod had the same low stats that they had in the 91 mod which should have improved a lot in that year. Anything beyond that doesn't matter because I don't need this mod to be anything than it is right now. I can just enjoy the holy hell out of your 91 mod, play the Superfly Effect mod, play the really fun 2005 mod, any of the mid-90's mods, poke around your 93 mod when it comes out, boot up Forlan's awesome current day-ish mod, wait for the always exceptional 2004 and Al's 1980 mods, etc. </p><p> </p><p>

I (and everyone else) have got options. I was just pointing out that I was going to have to gut WCW's main eventers and upper mids because their stats were so low compared to pretty much every other mod I've ever seen, which I found really odd. I've pointed out before that mod-makers put in a herculean effort in doing this for free, and the last thing I want to see is a mod get put out and then not played much at all due to easily correctable issues that 99.9% of people never report. They just struggle a little bit and give up before moving on to the next mod. If I'm in the tiny minority on all of this and 100's people (not sure how many play non-RW/CV mods) are raving about this mod and playing the holy hell out of it, then fine and well-deserved kudos to you. Frankly, well-deserved kudos to you for putting in that herculean effort on these mods in the first place, but the 91 mod is 1000x more enjoyable imo than the 92 mod is. Whether that's 100% due to where wrestling was in 1992 is debatable.</p>

So, utilise the editor and make the changes you feel you need to make. It's not like you have a live 92 diary, so nobody is going to shoot down your ratings etc.</p>

I would like to point out that WCW has a deal with DSF but DSF isn't supposed to debut until 1993 (and it's that way in the data as well  )

WCW is popular enough in Europe, though. Maybe their popularity could last a year without TV? Or perhaps players should be encouraged to run shows there?

An A* match should not be able to be achieved by the Steiners wrestling random guys. You shouldn't be able to just put good or even great wrestlers in a random match and get an A* rating.

I've seen a lot of your posts and I've heard you complain about like an 89 rating on a tv show for a national company. That to be is pretty crazy. I'll take high 80's low 90's every show. It seems that in your opinion or by your standards anything that isn't an A rating or an A* rating match or show wise is a complete failure.

Also keep in mind that the Broomstick thing is related to Flair in his prime. He could wrestle a broomstick to a *** match. A *** match is obviously not an A* rating.

But it really sounds like he just wants an easy mode. One of the reasons I prefer Justtxyank's mods is that I can't just put 2 guys together and expect 90+ rated matches. Book people the right way and you can almost push anyone to decent matches anyway. </p><p> </p><p> Never understand the point in always looking for that perfect show, we should have fun booking and making great feuds etc. Cause at the end of the day if ratings are all we care about we're just playing with a randomised spreadsheet.</p>

<p>On another note, Barry Windham and Dustin Rhodes started teaming up in 1991. Hell, they immediately started teaming up again once Rhodes and Steamboat lost the tag belts. Could use a tag experience.</p><p> </p><p>

Also I just noticed Scott Steiner's push is so low because his style is set as Spot Monkey. I understand the criticisms regarding the Steiner Bros, and during this period Scott was known as the one who did cool moves but IDK, I think that's a little harsh. Like, if Scott Steiner is a spot monkey, then so are most of US indy workers who try to work a 90s junior-inspired style.</p>

<p>So...what's the best way to keep Luger from sending his notice? He wanted to quit 2 weeks into the game. Not that I really wanted him to stay, but it's just so weird that someone would miss on one last PPV check. Especially when they are the champion</p><p> </p><p>

Also nobody has picked him up since and his body has turned flabby. I feel really bad for him <img alt=":(" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/frown.png.e6b571745a30fe6a6f2e918994141a47.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />.</p>

<p>I have noticed more missing title histories.</p><p> </p><p>

For example AJPW's entire championship scene in 1991 is currently missing. Also, despite being retired the WCW Six-Man Tag belts need history as well. I understand that you worked hard on Rising Storms and you might have forgotten a few things here <img alt=":D" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/biggrin.png.929299b4c121f473b0026f3d6e74d189.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />. I'm here to help</p>

Having fun with this mod so far justtxyank! Made it a couple of months in USWA, but now I'm thinking about switching to either WWF or my own promotion.

Quickly looking through WWF though - are you considering changing some of the personalities/habits of these guys? It seems really weird that the WWF has a 100% backstage rating to start, Hogan/Savage/Flair all having really positive personalities, and guys like Jake and Hawk without any known drinking/drug habits.

I might have some other bits and pieces of feedback to add in here and there!

<p>Nice! </p><p>

WCW is tough though... Gotta make it through (at least) the first month without guys like Sting, Dustin Rhodes, Vader and so on, do to them having PPA's or loan-deals with NJPW. Oh well, a challenge is always welcome. Or something <img alt=":p" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/tongue.png.ceb643b2956793497cef30b0e944be28.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p>

<p>ECW is a strange situation in this mod. ECW didn't actually run a show until the end of February, with TV coming in April of 93. Eddie Gilbert was not involved until 93 as well.</p><p> </p><p>

I guess the two options that jump out to me, would be to have them debut in February with Tod Gordon as the mandatory founder, or to have them active at the beginning with the roster of the first show. Which I will paste below. Also, you'd want to add The Super Destroyers #1 & #2 as a team with 0 experience formed in 1992.</p><p> </p><p>

Based on what I have seen from the shows that have recorded attendance, they were drawing 200-300 fans per show that year, topping out around 650. </p><p> </p><p>

2/25/92 – ECW “Market Street Mayhem” in Philadelphia, PA @ the Original Sports Bar</p><p>

Jimmy Jannetty drew Stevie Richards (20:00).</p><p>

Glenn Osbourne defeated Crybaby Waldo.</p><p>

The Super Destroyer #1 defeated Michael Bruno when Super Destroyer #2 defeated Bruno.</p><p>

Tony Stetson defeated Ivan Koloff.</p><p>

Jeff Royal defeated Max Thrasher.</p><p>

Johnny Hotbody & Larry Winters double DQ with DC Drake & JT Smith.</p>
