The Hardyz took the other workers to school in the early goings, and meshed surprisingly well with TJP at their side. We see these six wrestlers put on a good show start that doesn't last longer than seven minutes. In the end, TJP and Matt both got down on their hands and knees for Jeff to complete Poetry in Motion to Jay Lethal, but Lethal managed to duck out onto the apron, causing Jeff to crash into the top turnbuckle and flop all the way out to the floor! Tyler Bate of Moustache Mountain removed the cover of the turnbuckle post in their corner, while Trent Seven climbed inside and clotheslined TJP to the outside. Matt Hardy lands a Twist of Fate on Seven as a response, but Jay Lethal springs into the ring with a dropkick! This sends Matt barreling backwards, and allows Lethal to run him right into the exposed turnbuckle post in his corner! Matt is down and out cold now, allowing Lethal to get the cover and the big victory for his team! In a bout that had decent wrestling but didn't have much heat, Jay Lethal and Moustache Mountain defeated TJ Perkins and The Hardyz in 6:43 when Jay Lethal defeated Matt Hardy by pinfall after blatantly cheating. 69 Trent Seven was the weak link, struggling to keep up with everyone else's in-ring performance. Trent Seven seemed off his game. This match got the show off to a strong start. This match got the crowd buzzing. The age old battle of Hero versus Villain was underway. Many fans were excited to see Chris Hero do battle with Marty Scurll, considering these two were of the most dominant forces in independent wrestling over the past two years. "CHRIS HERO AIN'T NU'IN TA F*** WITH!" chants echoed throughout the arena as things started off, but soon enough the "whoop whoop" chants were heard. A big highlight was Marty quieting the crowd in order to snap back the fingers of Hero, and we hear "YOU SICK F***" chants as a response. Hero landed a huge Discus Bicycle Kick to garner a close two-count, but Marty soon recovered and landed the Graduation! The man formerly known as "Party Marty" went for the cover, as referee Justin King drops down to count! ONE! TWO! NOPE! The Hero stays alive, but Marty locks in the Crossface Chickenwing! Hero fights it with all his might! The Knockout Artist's struggles allow him to land a food on the bottom rope, but Marty doesn't let up! He lets go at Justin King's count of four, but the damage is done, Hero is in a world of hurt! He struggles to get to his feet, having to use the ropes to pull himself up. Marty looks for the Chickenwing once more, but out of nowhere, we see a Discus Elbow from Hero! Marty is hit with authority and falls hard! ONE! TWO! THR-NOOOOO! The Villain gets his shoulder up at 2.9 and the crowd can't believe it! Hero beckons for Marty to get up, perhaps looking for another elbow to close out the contest and move to the Semi-Finals. Marty finally gets to his feet and Hero spins, but Marty ducks and finds the Chickenwing! CHICKENWING! Hero holds on, looking to escape once more, but he had pulled Marty to the center of the ring just a moment ago to attempt a pin, so as a result, he is found in the center of the ring with absolutely nowhere to go! Chris Hero has no choice but to tap out, and the Villain has vanquished the Hero! Marty is going to the Semi-Finals! As soon as the bell rings, forget legal men no one was on the ropes, we had Eddie Edwards trading blows with Rocky Romero while Davey Richards traded blows with Trent Berreta! Referee Mickey Henson finally found order, with Davey starting off against Rocky. Davey took a beating in the early goings, as the great chemistry of Trent and Rocky showed in a big way. They cut the ring in half and worked away at Davey, showing confidence all the way through. He landed a hot tag to Eddie Edwards after a failed back suplex from Trent, allowing Eddie to gain control for the Wolves. When the match boiled down, at the 12 minute mark, we see Trent knocked off the ropes by Richards, and a DR Driver for Rocky Romero. Richards tags Edwards who comes in to pick up Rocky for a Powerbomb into Richards' Lung Blower! ONE! TWO! TRENT BREAKS IT UP! He lands a Running High Knee to knock Davey Richards out of the ring, and helps Rocky up for a Strong Zero to Eddie Edwards! Instead of going for the pin, Trent goes to the outside and stomps away at Davey while Rocky locks Eddie in the Diablo Armbar! Eddie has no choice but to tap! Roppongi Vice are going to the Semi-Finals! In a bout that had good wrestling but didn't have much heat, Roppongi Vice defeated The Wolves in 12:31 when Rocky Romero defeated Eddie Edwards by submission with a Diablo Armbar. 68 This match got the crowd hotter. Kevin Owens started things off by yelling in the face of Kenny Omega, who responded with a quick roundhouse kick and an attempt at the pin. Owens kicked out after two, and was livid. This started a back and forth contest that was truly great. No man had the advantage for far too long in the bout that went on for over 20 minutes. As things went on, and both men wore down more and more, and injuries started to show. Owens' head was busted wide open halfway through, so blood was pouring out of his face by the very end. Omega, on the other hand, was fighting through what appeared to be a left calf injury, allowing Owens to work the calf throughout the match. As things were clearly winding down, the two tired individuals were trading blows in the middle of the ring slowly, ending with Owens no-selling a job from Omega, and tossing him into the ropes. When Omega came back, he was victim to a Pop-Up Powerbomb! ONE! TWO! THR-NOOO! Somehow Omega kicked out, but the crowd was on the fence, as it appeared too close to call. Owens was livid, picking Omega up himself, and looking for the Package Piledriver for the second time in the match. Omega manage to roll-through and find a quick one-count, before picking Owens up and looking for the One-Winged Angel, YES! HE LANDS IT! In for the cover! ONE! TWO! NOOOOOOOO-OWENS GETS HIS SHOULDER UP SOMEHOW! Omega doesn't fret, heading to the other side of the ring and beckoning for his opponent to get up. Owens gets up to his knees in a trance, and Kenny runs at him for a knee to the face. Instead, Owens hops up and grabs Kenny for a Pop-Up Powerbomb, out of absolutely nowhere! ONE! TWOOOOOOOO! THREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! Kevin Owens gets a hard fought victory to take him to the Semi-Finals! Dawson fought back, causing a standstill between the two teams, but the crowd had problems finding someone to cheer for. Dash & Dawson sealed the deal with the Shatter Machine to Gotch. The Briscoes march down to the ring, allowing Dash & Dawson to call them on, but this only allowed Simon Gotch to recover and tag in Aiden English. The two rushed forward, with Gotch landing a dropkick to send Dash Wilder forward through the middle rope. They land the Whirling Dervish on Scott Dawson, and Aiden covers for the one, the two, and the three. The Vaudevillains join Roppongi Vice in the Semi-Finals! With the exception of the deceptive Pentagon & Fenix, these teams are fan favorites that would love nothing more than to please their fans and find a win here. This made it all the more exciting when Kyle O'Reilly and Bobby Fish landed Chasing the Dragon on Fenix, and pinned him for our first elimination! Once down to just two teams, young and spry DIY tried their best to topple the big veteran team in TenKoji. After incapacitating Kojima with a double superkick on the apron, DIY turned the dial up to 11 and landed a Total Elimination style combination on Tenzan in the center of the ring, scoring a big win! The match went on over 15 minutes, with Primo and Epico finding a way to combat the Odyssey members here and there, but essentially being fodder on the Odyssey's conquest for the FATE World Tag Team titles. Luke Harper landed the Truck Stop on Epico for the pin! But wait, it appears Primo managed to slap Epico's back when he was on the ropes, so he sneaks into the ring off this blind tag. Referee Jimmy Korderas tries to explain this to Luke Harper, who is unable to comprehend due to Heath Slater shouting warnings to Harper from the outside. Primo jumps up for a Crucifix pin! ONE! TWO! THREE!? Primo & Epico have defeated Odyssey! They move on to the Semi-Finals! Harper kicks out just after three, and none of the three Odyssey members can believe it! In a decent match, Primico defeated Odyssey in 15:44 when Primo defeated Luke Harper by pinfall with a fast roll up. 63 Erick Rowan was the weak link, struggling to keep up with everyone else's in-ring performance. On one end, you have Cesaro, who has been in a constant limbo when it comes to breaking into the main event for his entire career. On the other end, there is Bray Wyatt, who comes up just short at every rare opportunity that is presented to him on his conquests. They met here in a wrestling classic, that had Cesaro's power and overall in-ring prowess combating Wyatt's mind games and unique wrestling style. A big highlight was when Wyatt had Cesaro down in the center of the ring, allowing him to bend over backwards in the corner while grabbing the ropes. Cesaro recovered instantly and landed a rolling uppercut whilst falling backwards, catching Wyatt clean in the back of the skull. He went for the Cesaro Swing after this, and after the crowd's count of 15, he let go, but Bray Wyatt managed to make his way to his feet and stumble into the corner. Cesaro came at him for another uppercut, but Wyatt moved out of the way and ran back into the corner to grab Cesaro for a Uranage. A few "This is Awesome" chants later, and we finally find the end of this great match. Bray Wyatt finds himself in position for Sharpshooter, but manages to kick Cesaro away and grab him for a kiss to the top of the head, and Sister Abigail! ONE! TWO! NO! The ever-resilient Swiss Superman can tell Wyatt is gassed, and pulls himself up with the ropes. He lands a stiff uppercut and then the Neutralizer, capping off a wonderful match when a tired Bray Wyatt fails to kick out! Cesaro is two wins away from the brass ring he so preciously seeks! The independent wrestling kings start things off with a Superkick for each of their opponents, same as we left things between them at FATE Wrestling last night! Jason Jordan gets to his feet first, and catches a second Superkick attempt from both Matt and Nick, one with each hand. He shoves both feet backwards, but quickly grabs Nick under the leg for a Capture Suplex! Matt lands a succesful Superkick to Jordan now, but Gable has recovered and lands a Bulldog to take Matt down. The fast paced start was just a tone setter for these two teams, who don't stop until the very end. This is when Jordan and Gable land Grand Amplitude on Nick Jackson, with Gable covering him for the pin, but Matt comes out of nowhere with a Moonsault Press to take Jordan down and break up the pin simultaneously. With Jordan on his back, Matt quickly transitions himself to the apron and comes back in with a 450 Splash. This simply allows Chad Gable to recover and use a Headscissors takedown to send Matt to the outside. He instantly transitions back to Nick Jackson, grabbing him by the ankle and pulling him to the center of the ring for the Ankle Lock! While advancing in the tournament and being one step closer to the FATE World title was at stake here, it appeared the bigger story for these two was attempting to either reclaim or redeem the result of their previous showdown at NJPW's Wrestle Kingdom 9. Here at WrestleFest, Nakamura was an absolute artist in the ring, and Styles showed why so many people consider him the best wrestler in the world. At one point, Nakamura puts his knees up on a 450 Splash attempt, and instantly landed a Boma Ye! Somehow, Styles manages to kick out, and the crowd is more than happy to see the match continue. Things drain down, and we see a trading of stiff kicks. Nakamura lands a hard kick, and another one, before setting AJ up for the Styles Clash! HE LANDS IT! ONE! TWO! NOOOOO! The Phenomenal One lives up to his name, and manages a kickout. Nakamura picks him up, tosses him against the ropes, and eats a Boma Ye for his troubles! AJ landed a Boma Ye! Instead of going for the cover, he picks Nakamura up and sets up for the Styles Clash! He holds him in place for the pin attempt! ONEEEE! TWOOOOOOOOOOOOO! THR-NOOOO! Somehow the King of Strong Style is able to get his shoulder up, and AJ cannot believe it. He heads to the apron, looking for the Spiral Tap, but as he jumps in, Nakamura puts a boot up that catches AJ right in the head! AJ goes down, and Nakamura pulls himself up with the ropes. He plays to the crowd a bit before heading up top. AJ finds the wherewithal to get to his feet, and climbs up to join Nakamura on the top rope, quickly tossing him backwards with a Belly to Belly suplex! He catches his legs around the ropes allowing him to climb to the top. Nakamura is the one to recover quickly now, however. No one can believe it, everyone is on their feet. Nakamura punches AJ in the head a few times, before climbing up. He jumps up to kick AJ in the head, but AJ grabs him by the leg! He musters the strength to pull Nakamura up and grip his other leg now. AJ puts Nakamura in position, and we see him execute a Super Styles Clash off the ropes! ONE! TWO! THREEEEEEE! After over 30 minutes, AJ Styles scores the victory and advances to the Semi-Finals! The early goings of this one marked it as one of the more fast-paced of the matches this evening. This was clearly evident in the work of Primo and Epico, who seemed to turn it up a notch here tonight, both in speed and ability. Their A-Game was needed against a red hot American Alpha. With the crowd completely behind Chad Gable as he was worked over by the great chemistry of the Puerto Rican cousins, we see him duck a double dropkick attempt, and land a belly-to-belly suplex on each of his opponents. Gable tags out to Jason Jordan, who comes in to join him for Grand Amplitude to Primo! Jordan drops down for the cover! ONEEEE! TWO! NOPE! Epico is able to break up the pin, and then land the Backstabber on Gable immediately after, sending the former Olympian whirling out to the apron in the pain. Epico gets on the ropes, Jordan and Primo both recover and begin trading blows, with a stiff kick to the gut from Primo giving him the edge. He lands a handspring and tags in Epico. With Gable down on the apron, Primico are able to pull off a Backstabber to Jason Jordan, one knee from each cousin. Epico covers Jordan for the win! ONEEEE! TWO!!!!! NOOOOOO! There is a kickout from Jordan, but Epico stays on the attack! He goes for the Tripleta, starting with a Belly-to-Back Suplex, then a German Suplex, but before he can land the Brainbuster, Jordan escapes and captures Epico to Suplex him across the ring. Jordan dives to tag in Chad Gable, who is being called on by the crowd. Gable gets in, ducks a clothesline from Epico, dropkicks Primo off the ropes, and then turns around to land a takedown to Epico, locking in the Ankle Lock! Epico does his best to fight it, but Primo is out on the floor, and the ropes are not close enough, Epico has to tap out! American Alpha will be in the Pre-Main Event for the FATE World Tag Team Championship! In a bout that had decent wrestling but didn't have much heat, American Alpha defeated Primico in 16:50 when Chad Gable defeated Epico by submission with an Ankle Lock. 61 Chad Gable was really off his game. Primo & Epico had great chemistry teaming together. This match got the crowd buzzing. Cesaro has been on fire as of late, but when put up against the unique and crafty Villain, he was forced to change his gameplan here. Similar to Bray Wyatt playing mind games, Marty Scurll was doing everything he could to get in the head of Swiss Superman, in order to hopefully become his Kryptonite. The result is a match worthy of the work these two have already put into this tournament, and as things wound down it proved to be a testament to how much any of the four remaining Semi-Finalists would love nothing more than the FATE World Championship gracing their shoulder. A lengthy Cesaro Swing wears Marty down, which is why Marty regaining his composure on the ropes, and locking in the Chickenwing so soon after took him by surprise! Cesaro is hanging on for dear life in this match! Center of the ring, and Marty is not giving an inch! Cesaro digs deep, and in an impressive show of power and perseverance, he manages to get to his feet, with Marty not releasing the hold, and simply dangling from his grip of his opponent's shoulders. Cesaro flips Marty forward, over his head, and puts him between his legs before cracking his neck. "The Villain" is gripped and given a Neutralizer after nearly 16 minutes, and Cesaro scores the one, the two, the three! Cesaro will be in our main event for the FATE World Championship! In a decent match, Cesaro defeated Marty Scurll in 15:50 by pinfall with The Neutralizer. 73 This match got the crowd hotter. Whichever team can win here is just one win away from the FATE World Tag Team Championship. We see Aiden English square off with Trent Beretta in the early goings, with Trent getting the better of English and forcing him to tag out to Simon Gotch, perhaps earlier than he anticipated. Gotch worked with intensity to keep his team in it, and the result was a back-and-forth contest. Trent, at one point, kicked out of the Whirling Dervish, and Gotch kicked out after the Dudebuster DDT. While the crowd didn't have much to root for between two teams who definitely weren't trying to warm their hearts, but the highlight had to been the talent of one Rocky Romero. This talent, paired with the excellent chemistry of RPG Vice, allowed these two to land the Strong Zero on Aiden English for the one, two, three, with Gotch being just short of breaking up the pinfall. In a bout that had decent wrestling but didn't have much heat, Roppongi Vice defeated The Vaudevillains in 13:18 when Trent Beretta defeated Aiden English by pinfall with a Strong Zero. 65 Rocky Romero carried the match in terms of in-ring performance. Aiden English seemed off his game. Though neither of these men fight for the adoration of the fans, they both are incredibly talented, and put their lives in FATE on the line for over twenty minutes in order to get that second spot against Cesaro in the FATE World Championship match in tonight's main event. The twenty minute bout revealed that these two wrestlers have great chemistry as opponents. Without a tournament like WrestleFest we may not get the chance to see this match-up, but everyone that showed up is sure glad we did. Things finally start to wind down, and we hear "THIS IS AWESOME" chants as these two trade blows. KO comes out on top with a big uppercut and a few right hands to follow. He tosses Styles against the ropes, POP-UP POWERBOMB, WAIT NOOOOO! Hurricanrana from AJ, he holds KO for the pin! ONE! TWOOOOO! NOPE! Close, but Owens is not going down that like. They both get to their feet and scramble, with KO kicking AJ in the gut now and delivering a succesful Package Piledriver, for the win!? Jimmy Korderas drops down for the count! ONE! TWO! THR-NOOOOOOO! But oh so close for Kevin Owens. He yells at AJ, looking for a second Package Piledriver, but AJ is able to escape and land a Pele Kick! KO is dazed, AJ puts him between his legs, puts up his signature salute, and lands a Styles Clash! ONEEEEEE! TWOOOOOOO! THREEEEE! AJ Styles wins, he'll meet Cesaro for the World title in tonight's main event! These are three teams who came up short in the quarter finals just last night, missing a shot at the FATE World Tag Team titles that will be awarded later tonight. Instead, they fought each other in order to gain momentum and perhaps get back on track. A win would maybe put them on the new champion's radar, and we see Heath Slater at ringside for Luke Harper and Erick Rowan's support. While at first, the Wolves and the Young Bucks team up on their bigger opponents, the Young Bucks fail to let the allegiance last much longer when they land a Superkick to both Eddie Edwards and Davey Richards. Slater encourages his Odyssey members to team up with the Wolves instead as this one rolls on, and they do. Harper rolls out of the way of a More Bang For Your Buck combination, and powerbombs Matt Jackson before he falls victim to the Hammer of the Gods from the Wolves. With the Bucks out of it, there was a clash of styles between Odyssey and the Wolves. Though Rowan cannot escape a Chop Block/Clothesline combination, Luke Harper is able to pick up the scraps and toss both Wolves over his head, before putting Edwards away with the Truck Stop. In a bout that had good wrestling and a decent reaction from the crowd, Odyssey defeated The Young Bucks and The Wolves in 16:06; the order of elimination was The Young Bucks first, and then The Wolves. 71 Erick Rowan was the weak link, struggling to keep up with everyone else's in-ring performance. Heath Slater did some good work at ringside. Matt Jackson and Nick Jackson had great chemistry when teaming together. There were times when there was a definite lack of psychology on display, and the match had the tendency to drift a little. Kenny Omega and Shinsuke Nakamura trading blows was a big highlight in the early goings, as well as Chris Hero taking hard hits from everyone, only to respond to each of them with Discus Elbows! These four were breaking up every possible pin as the match rolled on, not letting anyone steal their victory. That was, until, the very end of the match. Bray Wyatt eats a Boma Ye from Nakamura, but before Nakamura can capitalize, we see Omega pick him up and land the One-Winged Angel. He hops up from a pin attempt when he sees Chris Hero, but the result is a Discus Bicycle Kick for Omega. Bray Wyatt crawls backward out of the corner and finds Hero for a Sister Abigail, with the other two still down and unable to break up the pinfall. In a bout that had good wrestling and a decent reaction from the crowd, Bray Wyatt defeated Kenny Omega, Shinsuke Nakamura and Chris Hero in 17:16 when Bray Wyatt defeated Chris Hero by pinfall with a Sister Abigail. 76 Chris Hero was the weak link, struggling to keep up with everyone else's in-ring performance. With Dash & Dawson getting the win the last time these two met, the Briscoes have yet to compete since. They have, however, shared many words to discourage Dash & Dawson, and then played a pivotal part in their Quarter Final loss to the Vaudevillains. Dash & Dawson didn't even wait for the Briscoes to get in the ring before they start things here, causing referee Rudy Charles to call for the bell, and we are underway. Dash & Dawson did a fine job of working away at Mark Briscoe in this one, seeming to want to injure him and keep the Briscoes out of their way for a while after this match. Mark Briscoe was writhing in pain for the majority of the match, and spent some time lying on the floor on the outside while his brother went it alone. When Jay falls victim to the Shatter Machine, however, Mark finds the werewithal to slide back into the ring and break things up! Dash & Dawson can't believe it, and they stomp away at Mark's right leg relentlessly as a form of retaliation. This changed mentality gives Jay Briscoe enough time to recover, and he shoves Dash Wilder to the outside, and planting Dawson to the mat. He helps his brother get to the top rope, very carefully, so that the two can land the Spike Jay-Driller on Scott Dawson, and Dash is nowhere to be found. One, two, three! Alpha toppled the Sky Blondes, the Young Bucks, Primico, and now they just need to beat RPG Vice. RPG Vice, however, have beaten TenKoji, the Wolves, and earlier tonight, the Vaudevillains. One win away from gold for both teams. Jordan and Gable are red-hot, Ready Willing and Gable for a win here. Roppongi Vice are an excellent team and have gotten further than perhaps anyone would have expected. This match is a good one, showing the straight-up wrestling ability of Alpha, and the unique tag team work and quickness of RPG Vice in their conquest. Things are boiling down, with all four men having taken their share of licks and seen several nearfalls. A great moment was Rocky Romero absolutely refusing to tap out to an Ankle Lock from Chad Gable, as Epico did earlier tonight. He held on just long enough for Trent to save him. In the very end of the contest, RPG Vice escape a Grand Amplitude attempt and we see a big DDT from Trent to Jordan. Gable is right there to land a Bulldog to Trent, though. He picks Jordan up, and the two land a Capture Suplex to Trent, one each. This leaves Rocky Romero all alone and he falls victim to Grand Amplitude! ONEEEEEE! TWOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! THREEEEEE! Rocky has nothing left after a long night (weekend for that matter) and American Alpha have done it! We have our first champions in FATE! In a bout that had decent wrestling but didn't have much heat, American Alpha defeated Roppongi Vice in 18:01 when Jason Jordan defeated Rocky Romero by pinfall with a Grand Amplitude. American Alpha win the FATE World Tag Team titles. AJ Styles has been a world champion in nearly every company he has competed, including WWE, NJPW, TNA, and so many more. Cesaro, on the other hand, has held the PWG title, and midcard and tag titles here and there, but has never been able to "grab the brass ring" as they say. A long weekend of matches could lead him to the win he needs, but the world-class athlete and tournament favorite AJ Styles stands in his way. And AJ is not moving for anyone. We see these two go to war for nearly a half hour, and it is absolutely exceptional. This is the match of the night, slightly surpassing Styles and Owens earlier. But it is, in fact, the best match that anyone has seen thus far in FATE. Cesaro's sheer power is a big highlight, as well as Styles' ability to think on his feet. Nearfall after nearfall keeps the crowd on their feet, but neither man is giving an inch. That is, until, Cesaro finds the Neutralizer, and goes for the cover! AJ looks out cold! ONE! TWOOOOOO! THR-NOOOOOO! This is AJ Styles! He kicks out just before three, but Cesaro does not let up! He puts AJ in the Sharpshooter! The Phenomenal One does not want to tap out, but he is been at war twice tonight, and in there for over 25 minutes at this point! He crawls desperately to the ropes, and just when he steps near them, Cesaro pulls him back to the center! He appears this was what AJ anticipated, however, as Cesaro taking the time to back him up allowed Aj to spin out of the move, and we see him roll to the apron, jumping with a Moonsault, stopping to land a Reverse DDT. AJ goes to the apron once more, now thinking Spiral Tap, and he eats Cesaro's knees! Cesaro gets to his feet, puts AJ between his legs, and pulls him up for the Neutralizer, once more! ONE!!!!!!
