WCW: Taylor Made(92&Beyond)

WCW Taylor Made

The year was 1992, and WCW was coming off a year that did the impossible: topped 1990 as the most financially destructive year in the company’s short history. In 1991, Dusty Rhodes easily picked up the slack where Ole Anderson left off in the inane, nonsensical, completely asinine booking department. While arguably not as humorously terrible as Ole was, the numbers were there clear as day, Dusty was not the man for the job.

The start of 1992 saw long-time WCW front man Jim Herd step down from his position of power in WCW due to frustration, stress, and a feeling of helplessness to curve WCW’s problems. Two years of Ole’s Third-Grade Magic Shows and Dusty’s bad gimmick matches had taken their toll on Herd, and after all the nonsense over the last 25 months, who could blame him the least bit for waving the white flag.

In steps Kip Allen Frye, a long time Turner employee. With Frye now in charge of the back office portion of the company, many changes were made to WCW in hopes to not only get the company out of the Red, but also give the fans a better product. One such change was instituting a "bonus system". At every major card, the workers who had the best overall performance would receive a bonus. The second major change was removing Dusty Rhodes from the Head Booker position. Replacing Dusty was no easy task as every one in the locker room claimed to know what's best for the company. Shockingly, mid card stalwart Terry Taylor was named Head Booker of the reeling promotion.

Terry himself also brought about changes. The more outlandish characters and gimmicks would be out the door. Submission victories now occur when you make your opponent tap out. Terry and Frye's goal was to give WCW a true alternative feel to the more cartoon world of the World Wrestling Federation. Frye and Taylor also decided to "trim the fat" and cut ties with a large portion of the roster in order to make room for an influx of talent from around the world.

With a barebones roster and new authorities in place; World Championship Wrestling hopes to become the one true juggernaut in professional wrestling.

OUT OF CHARACTER POST

This diary is going to be 99% kayfabe to reflect the era. I may have a prediction contest where the winner picks a promotion to profile, but other than that the diary is focused on the storylines happening in WCW. If I don't do the contest, I may do bi-monthly write ups for the rest of the world.

I'll be locked into this one, I loved 1992 in wcw....might be a barebones roster as you say, but what is there is great. Sting, the dangerous alliance, vader, the Steiners, Rhodes and Windham, Steamboat....it was one of my favourite years

Rude is one of the best in the world at this time. Sting is my all time favorite. I love Dustin Rhodes. Dangerous Alliance rules. Plus, the free agency available opens up so many possibilities.

Anyways, Hall of Champions and January 1991's schedule have been added above. I won't be able to do anything more until the mod drops.

Dustin doesn't like what he's hearing and comes out to trade insults before agreeing to meet in the main event![92]

Up next the WCW United States Tag Team Champions are in action as the Young Pistols(Steve Armstrong & Tracy Smothers) defend their titles against Brian Armstrong and Marcus Alexander Bagwell. Steve and Brian didn't hold back despite being brothers. The ending came when the Pistols hit their patented Doomsday Dropkick on Bagwell. [50]

Steve Austin recently decreed that he's such a fighting champion he'll defend his belt against anyone and Johnny B Badd was the first to stand up for a chance at the prestigious title. Badd was no match for Austin's cunning however and was put away swiftly via the Stun Gun.[63]

Backstage Missy Hyatt is interviewing Sting and Ricky Steamboat about Dustin facing Arn in the main event. They have faith in the youngster, but think he's in over his head! [100]

In the ring, Diamond Dallas Page is standing alone with a mic. He insults the West Virginia natives before introducing his newest clients: "The Diesel Machine" Kevin Nash and "The Diamond Studd" Scott Hall. Together they're the Diamond Mine and they're on the hunt for gold! [77]

DDP's charges wasted no time in showing they're the real deal when they made short work of the legendary Junkyard Dog and the fighting lumberjack Big Josh. Hall hoisted the flannel clad Josh up for his devastating Diamond Death Drop! [63]

Back to the locker room, US Champion Rick Rude is ranting about Sting. He reminds us that the Dangerous Alliance has one goal above all else and that's to rid WCW of The Man They Call Sting. [92]

Number One contender for the Light Heavyweight Championship Brian Pillman teams up with second generation superstar Eddie Guerrero to take on The York Foundation. Alexandra and Morton were livid as Rich continued to make mistakes and it ended up costing them the match when Pillman flew through the air and nails Rich with the Air Pillman! [69]

Following the commercial break, Ron Simmons is making his way to the ring. Simmons talks about how he's been in a rut lately. He's still picking up the wins, but he hasn't felt himself. He decided to go look for a mentor. Someone to guide him on his path to the World Heavyweight Championship. That man is...Ernie Ladd! Ladd greets the fans and says by this time next year Ron will have been World Champion! [58]

Larry Zbyszko seemed to take offense to Simmons and Ladd and comes out to challenge Ron to an impromptu match. Simmons catches Larry off guard and hits a picture perfect Spinebuster putting the "Living Legend" down for the three count. [70]

In the main event, Dustin Rhodes and Arn Anderson tore the house down. For a few minutes it looked like Dustin might actually beat the wily veteran, but Arn snuck a dirty pin in by grabbing Dustin's tights. Dustin looks furious! [80]

...

WCW Power Hour

Saturday January Week One(Immediately following Saturday Night)

Diamond Mine cut a promo

Diamond Mine defeated Arachnaman, Brian Armstrong, and Dean Malenko

Big Van Vader and Mr. Hughes defeated Marcus Alexander Bagwell and Van Hammer

Missy Hyatt interviewed Sting, Dustin Rhodes, and Ricky Steamboat

The Young Pistols defeated Johnny B Badd and Z-Man

Steve Austin defeated Junkyard Dog to retain the WCW Television Title

WCW Main Event

Sunday January Week One

The Young Pistols defeat Dean Malenko and Brian Armstrong

Missy Interviews the Dangerous Alliance

Ron Simmons defeats the Taylor Made Man

Missy interviews Ron Simmons and Ernie Ladd

The Steiner Brothers defeat Richard Morton and Thomas Rich

Rick Rude & Steve Austin defeat Big Josh and Junkyard Dog
