Movie Tycoon returns with the fifth edition! Movie Tycoon 5 is a forum game where you create your own movie studio, hire talent and make movies. Can you secure a foothold in the everchanging industry?

› Each new movie studio starts with $10,000,000. Your studio cannot go overbudget.

› Every day players can make movies with cast of their choice.

› To enter yourself into the movie industry, please create your studio. (Simply writing the name of the studio will do)

› You can then begin to create your movie.

STEP ONE: CASTING & PRE-PRODUCTION

› This is the initial phase of creating the movie, where you cast out talent to star in the roles you have planned out for your movie.

› Before that you need to set a few basic details, the title, genre, summary of the plot and rating.

› Different genres have different benefits and negatives, for example, a fantasy epic requires a big budget to do well in the box office and in a drama the performance the cast weigh more heavily than in a senseless action packed B-movie.

› Summarizing the plot well in the early going will help make potential cast more interested in the product.

› The rating of the movie [G, PG, PG-13, R, NC-17] will have have an effect on the box office & physical copy revenue generated by the movie.

› It's important to use established talent in lead roles if you want to avoid big surprises. A low Star Power talent doing terrible is way worse than a Star doing an average job.

› The flip side to the above statement of course is that established stars cost a lot of money, it might be worth negotiating special deals with potential cast. Pay cuts from asking price, multiple movie deals, post-revenue cuts, imagination is welcomed.

› Taking a gamble on a low Star Power talent is not a bad idea by any means, especially if they're in a Minor role (or even Major role) — they take a low wage and you can help kick start careers if they have a good performance.

› A weak production will have an effect in everything presented in the movie. Production signals how well the lighting, camera work, editing etc. is done. Minimal Production Cost spending can result in a movie looking amateurish.

› A big marketing budget will help the movie do better in the box office.

ADDITIONAL INFO

» Star Power [sP] is used within Movie Tycoon 5 as a gauge of popularity rather than raw talent. The bigger the [sP], the bigger the check. Box office hits occur far more likely with a cast abundant with [sP], especially important to remember when considering the lead roles for your movies. As talent take part in movies, their [sP] and Directing [DIR] can change for better or worse, depending on their performance and the movie's box office potency. The more screen time talent have in a movie that does well critically or commercially, the more their [sP] and [DIR] will rise. Thus it is absolutely possible to build up a nobody to star status, if given the right movie and enough screen time.

STAR POWER

0.1 - 0.5 Barely Recognizable

0.6 - 1.0 Recognizable

1.1 - 1.5 Known

1.6 - 2.0 Well Known

2.1 - 2.5 Minor Draw

2.6 - 3.0 Major Draw

3.1 - 3.5 Minor Star

3.6 - 4.0 Star

4.1 - 4.5 Major Star

4.6 - 5.0 Mega Star

» Talent Chemistry can dramatically affect the flow of the movie. Completely randomly generated.

» If you want to use a book, comic or something else considered copyrighted you can make a request and I will reply to your request with the copyright owner’s demands. As with any negotation, you may attempt to haggle, however there is no guarantee the company will bend to your will.

ROUGH TALENT COST ESTIMATES

» Director: 1.25 * Directing

» Lead Role: 1.5 * Star Power

» Major Role: 0.75 * Star Power

» Minor Role: 0.25 * Star Power

+ 0.25 for nudity

LADY LUCK

» Every talent will get a Performance Rating [PERF] once they work on a movie. High [sP] stars have a better base [PERF]. After talent chemistry and base value is taken into account, Lady Luck comes into play and gives the final touch to the [PERF]. If talent's [PERF] is heavily below their [sP] or [DIR], the stat in question will decrease, depending on the overall success of the movie. A weak performance in a hit movie is far more forgiving to [sP] losses.

Awesome. So glad to see the game back. I have two flicks pre-outlined and at least another two I've been brainstorming. So consider Amalgamated Artists up and running once again. We will announce the return project after some number crunching. And be assured the delayed Search For The Sun will be back at some point.

All right, enough with the greetings. Let's get down to business. The Viper's Den has found it's next calling card.

Title: Greenwater Amusements

Genre: Animated Adventure/Comedy (Similar to a Disney Musical)

Brief Summary Of The Plot: Greenwater Amusements is an amusement park unlike any other, during the day; it's the town's go to place for fun and excitement, but at night, when everyone's gone; the rides have a shocking secret. They can transform into humans! One day, a greedy businessman finds out about this secret and decides to cash in on it; can Tommy Twister and his friends stop him from revealing the truth and save Greenwater Amusements?

Rating: PG

Production Cost: $945,000. It's not Disney quality, but with luck; it should at least be Blue Sky or DreamWorks quality.

Marketing Cost: $945,000; we'll be producing a soundtrack featuring the seven songs in the movie, produce a fashion lineup and create some toys to capitalize on the kids.

Tagline: A Kiddie Ride Can Go A Long Way...

Talent Casting:

Director: Genndy Tartakovsky is one of the most versatile animators out there, he can do comedy, he can do drama, he can do romance, he can do over the top, he can do virtually anything. I would like for him to pay extra close attention to the physics of amusement park rides, this'll include taking a few trips to some amusement parks to get some inspiration. (Don't worry, we'll pay for you)

Lead Role:

Tommy Twister- The main rollercoaster and overall star of Tommy Twister's Tumbleweed Territory kiddie section of Greenwater Amusements, he's a dog goned nice guy with a heat of gold. The kids love this guy and his southern charm, whenever they see him; they know he's someone they can trust. He never gets the same respect from the bigger rides, usually being the one that takes the ribs and hazing, ('carny' term for giving the smaller rides embarassing chores) but he takes it all in stride. He has a big crush on Carolina Cobra, but can never get the guts to say it to her. He loves Greenwater Amusements to death and will do anything to keep it from harm or trouble.

Contact: Tommy Twister needs someone warm, friendly, but with an edge that can make him three dimensional; Zac Efron is that man. My only request is that he try a southern accent.

Eddie Rich- Eddie Rich is a man of many things, he's a creator, inventor, businessman and above all else; he's rich. He's owned casinos and buildings all across the world, he's so rich he even got the money to make a time machine and bring back a dodo bird and keep it as it's pet. He's very opportunistic, whenever something comes; he'll be the first on the table with money, he's smooth, confident and suave, but that doesn't change his big flaw; he's an overconfident buffoon. He's also a classically trained violinist.

Contact: Alexander Rybak is someone who has potential, he's young, he's affable, he's talented, he can put people inside a story and have them interested. This would be his first film, but no pressure though. I would like to hire you an acting coach to get you settled into your role. You also get a villain song suited to your musical style.

Major Role:

Carolina Cobra- You've seen this kind of girl before, blonde hair, fashion sense, beautiful eyes, great body, she's the de-facto queen of Greenwater Amusements ruling over an iron fist alongside her boyfriend C.J Cyborg as the second in command of 'The Big Three'. Out of the three, Carolina is easily the most likable. (Though that's not saying much) The worst she usually does is act very condescending towards you. (Especially when you talk about how beautiful she is) When she's not around them however, she's actually a really nice girl; she even feels pretty sorry for the so-called 'kiddie rides'. But she acts mean only to impress her boyfriend. She's also a bit of a tomboy and is a major fan of 'Orange Evening'. Tommy Tumbleweed has a crush on her, but she's never really noticed.

Contact: Miranda Cosgrove has come a long way from her days on iCarly, she provides the perfect amount of brains and sass needed to be the cobra. We might be seeing her again real soon in a more adult movie. (The estimated time is three to five movies, depends on her)

Mashu 'Mambo' Jumbo- Mambo Jumbo is a S&S Worldwide El Loco model, despite the model name; he's not crazy. At least, he hopes he isn't. He's one of the nicest people you'll ever meet, wise, skilled with a funny side, he's the first guy to give out an opinion on any situation. He's the only big coaster (aside from Carolina Cobra) who treats Tommy Tumbleweed with some respect and is always here to give him some words of advice. Or at least die trying.

Contact: I want to do something really special here. There's a really cool guy that's won the hearts of many people on the people for his happy-go-lucky personality, his go gettem attitude and his strong ethics. Ladies and gentleman, Hell's Kitchen fan-favorite Sterling Wright is the man we're contacting. The only real thing I can say to him is, have fun with this role. Make it your own. If you want, you can promote this movie anyway you like.

Elijah Enterprise- Elijah Enterprise is an interesting character, he claims to own the park; even though everyone knows that he used to come from a small carnival. Elijah has a major ego and likes to talk the others down, he talks a big game; but never backs it up. He's also the only one to have some sort of respect for Eddie Rich, (because he used to work for him once...spoilers.) but in the biggest deal of his life, he'll have to make a choice. Himself or the park?

Contact: John Oliver. Just, John Oliver. This guy can make reading a telephone numbers sound funny. Promote this movie however you like.

Ralph Riverback- Ralph Riverback is a wooden rollercoaster that is extremely popular with families, when Greenwater Amusements was still young; he was one of the top rides in the park, now? He's been demoted to little more than a family ride, regardless; he's still considered C.J's third in command. He is quite brash, which is justified given his former reputation. He's a ladies man, or at least; he thinks he's a ladies man. He's yet to actually snag an actual girlfriend, though recently; he's had his eye on Selena Sizzler, so best of luck to him.

Contact: Eddie Murphy may not be as popular as he once was, but when it comes to comedy, he's a trailblazer. A character that be comedic and badass at the same time. Also gets a duet with Shakira.

C.J Cyborg- C.J Cyborg is a B&M hyper-coater, and THE ride in the amusement park. Everyone loves this rollercoaster, it's speed, it's height, it's airtime, everything about it screams amazing. C.J is also the most popular person in the entire park. All the rides look up to him, which feeds his ego. He's all business and has no time for suckers and little people, he is also the leader of the 'Big Three'; the top three most popular rides in the park. His favorite pastime is picking on the rides in Tommy Twister's Tumbleweed Territory, or as he calls them, the 'kiddie rides'. He's also a ladies man, but unlike Ralph, he's actually had success.

Contact: Justin Timberlake is a beast in singing, he's been a beast in acting, he's been a beast in life really. What's not to love about him? Getting a song of his own that will be one of the highlights of the soundtrack. (Next to the villain song, Carolina's song and Mashu's song)

Selena Sizzler- Selena Sizzler is a twister. (or as it's referred to in ride talk as 'scrambler') Selena is a fiery, passionate young woman. Passionate for two things, fire and 'the amor'. (And that's as far as we're going to go for PG) Ralph has the hots for her, but she always plays hard to get. She also claims that she's from the 'España de América', whatever that means. (It's Mexico ya doofus!)

Contact: Selena is hot and spicy, Shakira is hot and spicy, ergo; Shakira it is. Gets a duet with Eddie Murphy.

Minor Role:

Martin Merry- A grand merry go round, always sings everything for no reason. Nice guy, but is seen as somewhat annoying due to his singing. He loves fine-dining, long walks on the beach, listening to Mozart and horse riding. He's used as sort of a narrator to the movie.

Contact: Tommy Wazelle has some credentials, he's a talented singer, he's somewhat known (Peg + Cat anyone?) and he's pretty versatile. Feel free to do some improv singing if you're confident enough.

The Creator- The man who created Greenwater Amusements. The rides don't actually know his name, they simply refer to him as 'The Creator'. He built this park on the hopes that his children could have a playground that everyone could enjoy. He's a jolly old man with a heart of gold who truly loves his work. After a nuclear accident in the Ghost's Mansion ride, he discovered that the rides could morph into humans. After that incident, he made it his vow never to reveal the truth about the park, lest it ruin it's reputation.

Contact: This role came in last second when I realized there was one key ingredient to the story missing, Out on a limb, i'm going to go for Ned Beattly as he has had success in these films before.

Cameo:

Two Guys: At the very end of the movie, there is to be a gag featuring two unnamed people; both male. Both are extremely confused with what just happened.

Contact: Smosh. Because kids and teens love them and trust them with all their heart.

Solitude

Tag line: Alone........can you survive?

Genre: Drama, Sci-fi

Brief sypnosis: You are living your day to day life and everything is fine but

one day, everyone is gone, you are alone in the world, no idea what is happening and most important question, why you are still here if everyone is gone? can you withstand this unwanted solitude?

Rating: PG

Production Cost: (need some help here)

Marketing Cost: (need some help here)

Lead role: Again, need some help here. I did not find Andrew Garfield in that list. Is he not a star?

Anyway, anyone who will be casted here will be required to play typical american High school/early college guy. Tons of character devlopement as well as tons of screentime. need a solid hand who can act as well carry movie on his back.

Gosh, next roles will reveal too much about the plot, sigh.http://www.greydogsoftware.com/forum/images/icons/icon10.gif

Cate Blanchett: A motherlike role, character maybe in her 40's. She will be a sort of damsel in distress with having a supporting role to the Lead male helping her as well a child find a place to live.(20-25 minutes role)

Will Smith- He will have an important role(mostly voice and a very short 4-5 minutes scene). His voice will be used as an emergency radio channel host, a snarky, somhow gone crazy but still trying to remain sane human, amidst the chaos. He believes and he is trying to bring all the remaining survivors to safe house. A bit similar to his comic roles in typical hollywood movies but just his voice.(MIB, Independence day) He will have full creative control. His only scene will be lead finding him recording his last broadcast and dying.

Supporting: not many. A female child actor who can pass as 4-5 year old.

A real life trained dog, possibly a medium sized breed such as Labrador.

Director: M. Night Shyamalan.

I think, only he can give this movie justice. Plotwise, it is going to be sink or swim anyway. Movie will mostly feature a single character and will require a ton of work as director.

Cameo- Here, I am trying to get sponsorship deals to fund the project. As film will be shot in a set which will be city ruins, Maybe posters of upcoming movies on billboards can be used as easter eggs. Anyway.............

Other will be, Jeff goldblum- really short role, again(4-5) minute role at the end.

Morgan freeman will be doing some narration work at the end and maybe start.

M. Night Shyamalan will be offered one more movie by the studio if he can sign the dotted line for the film at 3 million.

Studio agrees with Cate's sentiments. Studio will give her a lead role in one of the future movies. She won't be part of this one. Instead Studio will court Juliane Moore for the same role.

Dog is too expensive. Instead, Studio asks Garfield to bring his own dog to be casted in the movie.

Goldblum and Freeman as well as extras are signed. Studio also welcomes Garfield and Smith to be part of their first ever movie.

Studio has also asked Hans Zimmer to create an original score for this movie.

Greenwater Amusements (Studio: The Viper's Den)

» Adam Lambert thinks the role's a perfect fit and a good opportunity to proceed his career. He asks for $500K.

» Justin Timberlake is happy with 1.25M and a lead role in the future.

You are both currently under budget if you take these deals. Then you will both need to set your Production and Marketing Cost.

Deal to both Lambert and Timberlake. Excited to be working with you, still waiting for Ned Beattly's offer.

Here's his character if you haven't looked yet.

Contact: This role came in last second when I realized there was one key ingredient to the story missing, Out on a limb, i'm going to go for Ned Beatty as he has had success in these films before

I accept all the deals.

Russel, I need your help here. I have around 3 million spare( I believe). There will be no more than 2-3 sets which will be city ruins and can be shot in cities like detroit. No explosion and all those things. Maybe one but that would be CGI. How much should I invest in production and Marketing then?

I did not find Andrew Garfield in that list. Is he not a star?

Don't feel you have to be limited by who's already on the list. You want an actor or director who's not there? Ask for them anyway. That's how a soap star like Kate Mansi is there. Because I asked for her in a prior version of the game. The missing person will then be added and star rated accordingly.

Splitting the money in half will give you 1.5 million for marketing and production, that way you can have good marketing power yet still have good production values.

However, this is not always the best choice. Say you have some big names that could easily give the movie an audience, you would be inclined to spend more money on production than on marketing. The same works for vice-versa when you have a cast of unknowns that need some attention and the movie in question isn't a giant CGI explosion fest.

In short: Find a balance between production and marketing that best suits the film.

As for the production/marketing split SanX, it depends on the genre. For a Sci-Fi movie it's more important to have good production due to the need of special effects and such. But if no-one knows about your movie, it's not going to make much money either.
