"Never has the new fall television season been such a turning point in American pro wrestling. World Championship Wrestling and the World Wrestling Federation, both with the Monday Night Wars and changes in syndication, and the continuation of monthly PPV shows, are going through another metamorphosis."

In september 1995 started something that would forever change the wrestling industry, when WCW launched WCW Monday Nitro to directly compete against WWF's flagship show, Monday Night RAW. For many years had WWF dominated the wrestling scene completely, but was now seeing serious competition from WCW. These two giants would go head-to-head on mondays for the remainder of the decade, with smaller promotions being caught and squashed in the crossfire. The Monday Night Wars had begun...

Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports:

"WCW ANNOUNCED NEW MONDAF NIGHT WRESTLING SHOW OPPOSITE RAW"

In a stunning move stemming from the meeting between Eric Bischoff and Ted Turner on 6/5, WCW will be adding a new television show every Monday night going head-up with Monday Night Raw on the TNT cable network

...

Reports we received is that obviously the time slot is no coincidence and stemmed from Turner being personally miffed by the letters Vince McMahon was sending him earlier this year urging him to fold the company claiming the wrestling company was an embarrassment to Turner's name.

...

At the meeting, Schiller supposedly talked of how important it is to put the World Wrestling Federation down and out and other company officials afterwards were saying this move amounts to the declaration of an all-out war.

...

Both groups will probably be feeling some heat, the competition in the short-run will be great for wrestling fans this fall. The long run is another story.

The new show for WCW has been pushed back to 9/4, reports the Wrestling News Observer.

Heading into August, the word is that cable providers are beginning to question of the WWF off the back of some poor shows as of late.

Jeff Jarrett reportedly quit after the last PPV and according to Jerry Jarrett, is unhappy with the direction of his character in the WWF, and the WWF are reportedly looking to patch up the problems with Jarrett soon.

WCW meanwhile are having issues bringing in talent it seems with Eddie Guerrero failing to agree early into the month, though this picked up ahead of the Nitro debut.

<summary><strong><span style="text-decoration:underline;">This Week's WCW News</span></strong></summary></p><p>

</p><p><strong><span style="text-decoration:underline;">

WCW Powerplant to begin running shows</span></strong></p><p> </p><p>

<img alt="c2bd12efb795a4f5dc2b46521704db5f.png" data-src="https://i.gyazo.com/c2bd12efb795a4f5dc2b46521704db5f.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p>

The big news from WCW this week is that the WCW’s training centre, The Powerplant, is to begin running monthly shows. As part of this they will be expanding and taking in new students, while also opening the door for other works to come in and work the shows. Their first card is expected to take place in 2 weeks. See other news for a list of who has been signed so far. There are some structural changes also, with former ECW man Tod Gordon being brought in to run the Powerplant from a wrestling promotion side, while Gary Hart will be taking care of the booking.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong><span style="text-decoration:underline;">WCW Main Event off the air + changes to Saturday Night</span></strong></p><p> </p><p>

WCW Main Event will no longer be airing as per an official statement from WCW. It’s thought that 3 shows a week is overkill for the WCW audience and that with Nitro being the new centrepiece of the brand, having more shows takes away from that somewhat. It is expected WCW will run an extra house show per week instead of the Main Event taping.</p><p>

Further to this, it seems WCW Saturday Night will be shortening to 1 hour as of next week, effectively confirming it’s place as the companies b-show. </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

<strong><span style="text-decoration:underline;">Former WWF Intercontinental Champion signs for WCW</span></strong></p><p> </p><p>

<span>http://i.imgur.com/ikCBOXt.jpg</span></p><p> </p><p>

Former Intercontinental champion, and UK wrestling icon, Davey Boy Smith signed with WCW this week. WWF have granted a request to forego the usual waiting period and allowed the British Bulldog to join WCW immediately. Eric Bischoff was reportedly surprised by this, and is now weighing his options on how to debut Bulldog. Officials in London report that WCW have reached out to a few arenas about hosting a show in London this month. </p><p> </p><p>

In possibly related news, WCW has also agreed a deal with TNT UK to begin showing Nitro in the UK.</p><p> </p><p>

<summary>This Week's WCW News</summary>

WWF Title contender Jeff Jarrett to WCW

http://i.imgur.com/zzUIY31.png

The shock news of the week is the revelation that Jeff Jarrett will be joining WCW. Double J had already been announced as the No 1 contender for the WWF title to face Diesel at In Your House and it’s yet to be seen how WWF officials will react to this. He’ll almost certainly not come away with the title, but whether he’ll remain in the main event is yet to be seen. From our understanding, Jarrett’s last date with WWF will be the Pay Per View.

Another big name signing – Jake Roberts

http://i.imgur.com/9ubfNmc.jpg

When WCW decided to go head to head with Raw for Monday dominance, it seems Bischoff knew they needed star names to fill out the roster. The return of former WCW champion Ron Simmons, the signing of WWF main eventers Jeff Jarrett and Davey Boy Smith and now add ring expert Jake Roberts. A promo package aired on Nitro hyping the debut of Jake Roberts which is currently expected to be at Fall Brawl

Powerplant holds its first show

WCW’s Powerplant held its first show this week, with the match being headlined by Brian Christopher (son of WWF star Jerry Lawler) and Bryant Anderson for the WCW P International Title. The show was said to be decent, drawing a good 3,507 audience. There was a mix of young and old talent, with the premise being that some of the older guys (Rock ‘n’ Roll Express) are there to help train and teach the younger generation.

The full card results are;

• Buchanan and Flash defeated Blitzkrieg and Kendall Windham (Rating: D)

• Confrontation involving Doug Gilbert, Dirty White Boy and Buddy Landel (Rating: C+)

• Chavo Guerrero Jr. and Benoit defeated Hamrick and Richards for the WCW P International Tag titles (Rating: C-)

• The Rock 'n' Roll Express defeated Aguila and Duke (Rating: C-)

• Pre-match interview with Bryant Anderson (Rating: D)

• Brian Christopher defeated Bryant Anderson for the WCW P International title (Rating: C+)

Jeff Jarrett opens the show addressing stories that he might be leaving the World Wrestling Federation. He tells us this is true, that he walked out on WWF all along and he played everyone in the locker room, in the arena and in the offices at Titan Towers for a fiddle. <summary><strong><span style="text-decoration:underline;">This Week's WCW News</span></strong></summary></p><p>

</p><p><strong><span style="text-decoration:underline;">

Embarrasing lack of communication at Powerplant</span></strong></p><p> </p><p>

<img alt="c2bd12efb795a4f5dc2b46521704db5f.png" data-src="https://i.gyazo.com/c2bd12efb795a4f5dc2b46521704db5f.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p>

In one of the most bizarre stories in the history of Wrestling, Powerplant held their first show, crowning a new champion, and then promptly releasing him and half of the roster within a week. It’s an embarrassing start for the new promotion and speaks to a huge lack of communication within WCW and their development territory.</p><p> </p><p>

Brian Lawler was crowned the champion in the main event of WCW P Gauge Away, however it appears WCW were not even aware he was under contract. Word is they had tried to sign him to a development deal which he refused, however the people running Powerplant had hired him and others to work the show anyway. Eric Bischoff’s intention seems to have been that only guys signed to secure development contracts should work the shows. This led to release of all guys hired to work the shows with no emphasis on development with the exception of one or two who seemingly impressed enough to warrant being offered a development deal. The full list of those released can be found in the other news section.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong><span style="text-decoration:underline;">Road Warrior Hawk released</span></strong></p><p> </p><p>

<span>http://slam.canoe.com/Slam/Wrestling/2003/10/19/roadwarrior_hawk.jpg</span></p><p> </p><p>

The problem with being known as a member of a legendary tag team is that without the other member of your tag team, you can be dead in the water. That seems to be the case for Road Warrior Hawk who is without his partner in crime Animal due to both some personal issues between the two, and an injury suffered by Animal for which he is currently collecting on his Lloyds of London insurance policy. </p><p> </p><p>

WCW tried one last time to find something for Hawk on WCW Saturday Night by teaming him with Dave Sullivan but crowd reaction was lukewarm and any tag team Hawk is in will never be seen in the same way as the Road Warriors. With nothing for Hawk on a singles platform, WCW thought it better to release him than pay what is presumably quite a high salary. It’s expected Hawk will continue to work in New Japan.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

<strong><span style="text-decoration:underline;">WCW looking to make a huge splash in the UK</span></strong></p><p> </p><p>

The difference between WCW’s marketing of next week’s London show in the US and the UK is like night and day. The main event is scheduled to be a US title defence by Sting against a “mystery” opponent. If you’ve been reading this news section, the mystery opponent is likely to be no surprise given the location of the show. In the US, the match has been barely spoke of, a quick video announcement on Saturday Night this week being the only real coverage. In the UK however, adverts are running on all major channels promoting the show and the US title match in particular (including a tease of a huge UK star appearing)</p><p> </p><p>

<p>Thanks very much. There's some more coming soon; today at some point will be a predictions post for In Your House, and more weekly results will follow Monday. The reserved posts will be filled then, I didn't do them from game start and only have a post ready from the second month. I was a little annoyed in week 2 to discover WCCW created a top contender belt and were not booking enough 3v3 matches. They also added the Glory Days event which I didn't approve <img alt=":(" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/frown.png.e6b571745a30fe6a6f2e918994141a47.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p>

If anyone has any questions or suggestions let us know. Glad you're enjoying it <img alt=":D" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/biggrin.png.929299b4c121f473b0026f3d6e74d189.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p>

Yeah, I'm gonna echo that I really like how your format works. It's very neat and clean.

Bigelow, Savio, D'Lo, and Ahmed - This just seems like the best collection of mid-90s plucky faces that you can get.

Kid and Ramon - Because clique powers.

Goldust - Should make a nice little comedy match.

Bret Hart - Time to close out this thing.

Waylon Mercy - If you're turning this into a large, epic feud like it appears, Mercy needs to pick up this first victory.

Bertha Faye - In Your House is perfect for these oddball little challenges to go well,

so that in one of the big five you have someone come in and beat them.

Owen & Yoko - The Gunns are just played out by now.

Shawn Michaels - He's riding that rocket up, up, up.

Diesel - Jarrett should definitely be capable of dragging a good match out here.
