World of MMA: CornellVerse

Recommended Posts

Hello and welcome to World of MMA: CornellVerse! This is a dynasty where, instead of playing as an MMA company and attempting to take over the MMA world with that company, I will be playing as an unemployed user character and letting the game play out for itself. You may have began reading my real world version of this, but I lost the save file and instead of just doing the same thing again, I've decided to do it with the CornellVerse database. If I enjoy doing this, I will give another go at doing a real world version again.

In this dynasty, we will be using the default database, set in the CornellVerse. So you get an idea of the state of the world (in the game) right now, here is the brief description of the database:

“The year is 2001. The powerhouses ALPHA-1 and GAMMA continue to dominate the MMA landscape as they have for many years, but the ‘old guard’ of fighters that first made the sport famous are starting to fall away as a new generation of more well-rounded stars ascend to the top. It’s a pivotal point in the history of MMA…”

So that is where we currently are in the game world.

The way the dynasty is going to work is as follows:

- There will be a schedule page featuring the current month and year we are in (in the game) and all of the upcoming shows.

- If anything of importance happens in the game world, I will do a News Report detailing what happened.

- For shows: any national companies or above (currently ALPHA-1 & GAMMA), I will do a detailed report of their shows, as well as a preview so that you guys can make predictions if you want. For all other companies, I will post a quick recap and results from their shows.

- I will also do a quarterly report (every 3 in-game months), featuring the updated company & pound-for-pound (P4P) rankings.

And that’s that. It should become clearer as we get further into the dynasty. If you have any questions regarding the dynasty, or are confused about how it’s going to work, then just post them below. Next up, we’ll have a closer look at the game world, including a quick rundown of the companies currently open in the game world, and a look at the top P4P fighters in the world.

Further Look at Game World

Here is a further look at the game world, starting with the companies that are currently operating within it. They are listed in the same order as they are ranked by Blurcat:

http://i1248.photobucket.com/albums/hh489/Scotsman381/WMMA%204%20-%20Screenshots/Company%20Rankings%201_zps3rpw4yxw.png

As we can see, ALPHA-1 and GAMMA have a strong foothold over the rest of the competition. In terms of event recaps, as I mentioned in the intro post, I will post results for all companies apart from ALPHA-1 and GAMMA, as I will do a more detailed recap of their shows.

Next up, we have a look at the top male pound-for-pound (P4P) fighters:

http://i1248.photobucket.com/albums/hh489/Scotsman381/WMMA%204%20-%20Screenshots/Male%20P4P%20Rankings%201_zpsh90ex6fq.png

And now the women:

http://i1248.photobucket.com/albums/hh489/Scotsman381/WMMA%204%20-%20Screenshots/Female%20P4P%20Rankings%201_zpsb1hnwgkh.png

As I said in the intro post, I will post an updated P4P and company rankings in a quarterly report (ie. every 3 in-game months).

And that’s the more in-depth look into the game world, although coming up, we’ll be taking a closer look at the companies in the world, including looking at their champions and histories.

This is the first in-depth look at one of the companies, as we take a look at ALPHA-1. After this post, we’ll have a look at GAMMA, and then there’ll be another post looking at the rest of the companies. But before we get to those, we’re gonna have a look at ALPHA-1 so without further ado…

GAMMA is the organisation that pioneered Mixed Martial Arts in North America, and has built on its early successes (and learnt enough from its occasional failures) to establish itself firmly in the marketplace as the premier MMA company outside of Japan. A well-managed company with a strong long-term vision and some real stars on its roster, GAMMA look well placed to be a dominant force in the sport for a long time to come.

This is the final preview post before we start the game proper, and it’s a very quick look at the rest of the companies in the game world.

First up, we have the mid level regional companies, shown in order of ranking on Blurcat:

January Signings

I'm gonna do a monthly signings recap type-thing, where I quickly put all signings made by all companies in each month.

And don't worry, you don't have to read it all, I'll give a quick recap here: it's mostly just prospects and gatekeeper-type fighters, signed either from the regional companies or unemployment. The biggest signing is probably Jonathan Huang by GAMMA, who is very popular in Asia, which not only means GAMMA have a headliner for the region now, but also takes a name from ALPHA-1, as they look to expand into Asia.

If you notice any big signings by any of the other companies, be sure to let me know in the comments!
