Prediction Contest Update

Couple of thoughts:

-I know that the time limit draw really factored into people's predictions...but that's JCP for ya!

-Lots of people predicted higher caliber opponents for Flair at the Clash so I hope no one is too disappointed in "Gorgeous" Jimmy...

-This was the first 2 hour WCW. Admittedly there was some filler on the show. It's going to take a bit I think for me to get the roster where I want it and enough programs running that make show filled out properly.

-As always, I'm interested to know what people thought of the show, feedback always welcome.

I'm thinking a new edition of the Observer with the next prediction card to go up within the next 24 hours.

Thanks for stopping by/tuning in!

</span></span></p><p><span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:'Book Antiqua';"></span></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><strong>JCP News</strong></div></div><p><span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:'Book Antiqua';"></span></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

-Perhaps the biggest JCP news this week stems from the company's relationship with the NWA. With Crockett clearly set on national expansion, it seems that Jim as used his position as NWA president to repeal some long-standing bylaws of the organization. This week the NWA have officially repealed the bordering and territorial laws that have earmarked the organization for decades. While other members are unhappy with Crockett's repealing of these long-standing laws, the feeling is that JCP is fundamental to the survival of the smaller NWA promotions and they have no choice other than to simply live with it. Crockett contends he wants to see some of smaller regional organizations stay alive, he simply wants to compete with McMahon. It will be interesting to see if he can do both.</div></div><p><span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:'Book Antiqua';"></span></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p><span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:'Book Antiqua';"></span></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

-Crockett continued to lock up key roster members over the past few weeks to written contracts. It's understood that both Road Warriors (and Paul Ellering), Nikita Koloff, Rick Rude and Arn Anderson have all inked deals recently. No word on specific terms of those deals at this time.</div></div><p><span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:'Book Antiqua';"></span></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p><span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:'Book Antiqua';"></span></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

-Backstage, it is said that Crockett recently made a "major signing" with "name recognition and instant, credible championship contender." The pool of these types of available talents feels shallow to me, so I'm interested to see if this name can live up to the hype I'm hearing. I'm told to expect the debut at the Clash event.</div></div><p><span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:'Book Antiqua';"></span></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p><span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:'Book Antiqua';"></span></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

-Pez Whatley has been released from company. Management felt that his drug issues have made him a liability in the ring and with many boys feeling that he was "unsafe." Hopefully Whatley can clean up.</div></div><p><span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:'Book Antiqua';"></span></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Everyone will always be let down by Jimmy Jam. :p

On a serious note. Another good show. Flair and Jimmy should have a decent enough match at Clash.

I can't even think of a big name that's free at the start of the mod off the top of my head. Steamboat? I think his contract is nearly over in WWF.

Looking forward to the next show.

<p>I almost went with Jimmy Jam, because it did seem like you are running with that feud. But I thought that, with this being JCP and all, that could stall a little and be slow built to a later show, which is why I went the route of just someone to have a really good match with Flair but ultimately lose.</p><p> </p><p>

I don't remember, did Genadi do his weird thing where some of the WWF's guys are on PPA deals? Because if so, then I'm calling the big star as Piper or Roberts.</p>

<p>Good choice with Jimmy Garvin. He's probably [depending on the mod] over in the Mid-South, so he'll pull a great match in Texas against his opponent. </p><p> </p><p>

My first thought upon the announcement was the Freebirds would get the Horsemen in a Steel Cage at some point. </p><p> </p><p>

I have to think we'll see someone from the AWA, however, I'm not sure who would come over "as a big name" in '87. Curt Henning? </p><p> </p><p>

As for my choice, I worked on the assumption that the announced pick would be on the card somewhere, hence why I chose Ron Simmons.</p>

<p><strong>Couple of thoughts:</strong> </p><p> </p><p> -Nice to know that I didn't turn off half my audience with Jimmy Jam. I felt the need to continue the feud, much like Ole and the Super Powers.</p><p> -Regarding the surprise, I'll only say this for the time being. He is set by Genadi as available and classifies as at lead "recognizable or higher" in the US at the start of the mod without any fiddling with the data on my part.</p><p> </p><p> ...With that, on to the next prediction card! Remember, to be eligible to win, you must predict on at least 2 episodes of WCW and the Clash event.</p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><a href="http://s288.photobucket.com/user/tew0720/media/NWA%201987/NWA%20WCW_zps0u4j4wfi.jpg.html" rel="external nofollow"><span>http://i288.photobucket.com/albums/ll163/tew0720/NWA%201987/NWA%20WCW_zps0u4j4wfi.jpg</span></a></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="43677" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><strong>World Championship Wrestling</strong><p><strong> March Week 3 1987</strong></p><p><strong> Official Prediction Card</strong></p><p><strong> *Faces always listed first</strong></p><p> </p><p> <strong>Television Title Match:</strong>Denny Brown vs. Tully Blanchard © w/ JJ Dillon</p><p> The Rock n' Roll Express vs. Black Bart & Bobby Jaggers</p><p> The Super Powers vs. The New Breed</p><p> Brad Armstrong vs. Johnny Ace</p><p> The Road Warriors w/ Paul Ellering vs. Rocky Santana & Tiger Conway Jr.</p><p> Lazor Tron vs. The Terminator</p><p> <strong>Non-Title:</strong> Barry Windham & Ron Garvin vs. Arn Anderson & Ric Flair</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <strong>Bonus Point:</strong>Someone on this episode will call out Dick Murdoch for a US Title match. World Championship Wrestling

Date: Week 3 March 1987

Announcers: Tony Schiavone & David Crockett

Venue: Green Bay Veterans Arena (WI)

Attendance: 5,000 (sell out)

Television Title: Denny Brown vs. Tully Blanchard © w/ JJ Dillon

Champion Tully Blanchard has an exciting little opening contest with underdog Denny Brown, but the outcome is never in doubt. Blanchard has Brown submit to the Figure-Four after about 8 minutes of action.

Winner: Tully Blanchard

Grade: (C-)

Interview

Following the bout, Blanchard and Dillon are joined by the rest of the Horsemen at the interview podium. Schiavone notes that Flair has his big title defense against Jimmy Garvin for Clash of the Champions, but first he teams with Arn Anderson against Ronnie Garvin and Barry Windham tonight. Flair says he’s looking forward to embarrassing Garvin and showing Precious what a real man looks like. Arn continues to say that this group is a symbol of excellence and their even more fluid after dropping the dead weight.

Grade: (B-)

The Rock n’ Roll Express vs. Black Bart & Bobby Jaggers

The RnR Express demonstrated that they were in peak condition ahead of their big title match with Rude & Fernandez coming up at the Clash. Bart ate the pin after a double dropkick in 9 minutes.

Winners: The Rock n’ Roll Express

Grade: ©

Post Match

As Morton and Gibson secure the win, they are jumped by Rude and Fernandez who knock both members of the Express down with their respective title belts. Paul Jones is screaming at the downed Express that they don’t belong in the same league as the Awesome Twosome.

Grade: ©

The Super Powers vs. The New Breed

Dusty and Nikita were white hot as they took on the New Breed. The time traveling duo never really stood much of a chance as Royal fell to the Russian Sickle.

Winners: The Super Powers

Grade: (B-)

Interview

Following the bout, Rhodes and Koloff join Tony for an interview. They are hot at Ivan and Petrov for their interference in Nikita’s US title match last week. The Super Powers make it clear that they will make the Russkis pay…

Grade: (B)

Interruption

...Ole Anderson interrupts the interview and says that even though there’s a lot of bad blood between himself and Rhodes & Koloff--”the enemy of the enemy is my friend” and asks them to team with him against the Horsemen at Clash of Champions. Nikita and Rhodes agree, albiet reluctantly.

Grade: (B-)

Brad Armstrong vs. Johnny Ace

Young Brad Armstrong has impressive showing against Johnny Ace. The announcers pump Armstrong's family pedigree and mention that big things are expected of him in his career.

Winner: Brad Armstrong

Grade: (D+)

Interview

Schiavone welcomes “Gorgeous” Jimmy Garvin and his wife Precious, and “Hands of Stone” Ron Garvin and his partner, Barry Windham. Jimmy tells Tony that Flair has a posse, but so does he, signaling to Ron and Barry. Ron says that every slight against Jimmy and Precious has been a slight on his family, and he’s looking to soften Flair up tonight!

Rating: ©

The Road Warriors w/ Paul Ellering vs. Rocky Santana & Tiger Conway Jr.

Road Warrior squash! Oh, what a rush!

Winners: Road Warriors

Grade: (C+)

Interview

Tony hosted Ellering and the Warriors at the podium next. The Warriors run through a few of the tropes and have their eyes set on The Crockett Cup.

Grade: (B-)

Lazor Tron vs. The Terminator

Lazor Tron whips through the Terminator in 7 minutes, much to the dismay of Grey Dog Software forums.

Winner: Lazor Tron

Grade: (E+)

Interview

Tony Schiavone welcomes the “Boogie Woogie Man” Jimmy Valiant. Valiant says he outraged by Dick Murdoch walking around as US champ! He’s lining up to be the first challenger and even goes as far as to guaranteeing a rematch to former champ, Nikita Koloff.

Grade: (C-)

Non-title Match: Barry Windham & Ron Garvin © vs. Ric Flair & Arn Anderson w/ JJ Dillon

Before the match gets under way, Jim Cornette, flanked by Big Bubba, settles in with David and Tony for commentary claiming he is scouting the champs.

The match is great display of tag team wrestling between 4 excellent performers. Flair and Anderson get the heat on Windham early, but he battles back to make the hot tag to Ron Garvin.

As Ron is putting on a show against Flair and Anderson, Cornette makes his presence known. He creates enough of a distraction that Ron soon finds himself counted out.

Winners: Flair & Anderson by countout

Grade: (B-)

Show Rating: B- (popularity up in 9 regions)

TV Rating: 1.85
