Jet Planes & Long Limousines (Crockett Promotions 1987)

Nice show Crossface! I also enjoyed the Dusty Finish! That was fun!

Superfly should be a good addition for you. Did you have any reservations about booking him? In light of all the news before his death, he often treads that weird Chris Benoit territory for me and sometimes I get uncomfortable booking him. That could just be my own hangup though...

Overall it seemed you went rather heel heavy on this show. That leads me to believe you should have some babyfaces going over at Crockett Cup. The seeding looks interesting and I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with it.

I guess I like to think of the game as a fictional universe and a place where those tragedies don't/didn't happen. If people are offended by Snuka's inclusion in this diary however, I am more than happy to write him out quickly. I totally get why people might not want him, shame on me for not thinking of that ahead of time I guess.</p><p> </p><p> And as far as the heels going over in this show, well that's 80's NWA for ya! <p><strong>Prediction Contest Final Standings:</strong></p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><a href="http://s288.photobucket.com/user/tew0720/media/Predictions/March87SeriesFinal_zpsdmrddvka.png.html" rel="external nofollow"><span>http://i288.photobucket.com/albums/ll163/tew0720/Predictions/March87SeriesFinal_zpsdmrddvka.png</span></a></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

Congratulations to to4sty for winning the March '87 Prediction Contest! to4sty, be sure to check your PMs over the next 24 hours or so for your prize! <img alt=":)" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/smile.png.142cfa0a1cd2925c0463c1d00f499df2.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p>

I decided to come up with some smaller prizes for RingRider & Beejus for finishing in the top 3 as well. So be sure to keep an eye on your PMs as well guys!</p><p> </p><p>

A big thanks to everyone who predicted on the shows! The reader engagement and feedback is makes this so much more fun!</p><p> </p><p>

I'm working on a new Prediction Contest for the Crockett Cup, but I haven't pinned down exactly yet what I want to do. I'm open to suggestions if anyone is interested in offering them. I'd like to post something to get it started before the next episode of WCW. </p><p> </p><p>

<strong>The Jimmy Snuka Dilema</strong></p><p> </p><p>

If you read the Clash show, you by now have realized that Jimmy Snuka was my "mystery" signing. </p><p> </p><p>

So, as mentioned by RingRider, I didn't even consider the tragic Nancy Argentino case when signing and booking Superfly, and maybe I should have. I decided to<a href="https://goo.gl/forms/pYMpo43BlD1bIje63" rel="external nofollow"> post a poll over on a google form here</a> and would be grateful if readers would vote on what they'd like to see happen to Snuka in this diary. </p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Assorted Other Business</strong></p><p> </p><p>

From here I plan on posting the next Wrestling Observer Newsletter which will have some fallout from The Clash (including the serious injury) as well as the Wrestlemania III results (which, I was pleased to see Hogan vs. Andre headlined again!).</p><p> </p><p>

I also will be editing my roster and champions page as well as the show index and getting everything up to snuff as we head into April of '87.</p><p> </p><p>

As always, thanks for reading, commenting, predicting, etc.</p>

Good Clash, thought I'd called the Rock n Rolls winning till you pulled the dusty card out lol.....as for the Snuka Situation, use him as you'd see fit. I personally can't stand the thought of Chris Benoit, as a father myself what he did sickens me and I've been banned from a number of groups forums etc because reading RiP Benoit or Benoit for the Hall of Fame.....or my personal favourite "yeah he was a great wrestler though so I celebrate him" frankly makes my blood boil......but.....that wouldn't stop me booking or pushing him in my game, because "my" Benoit isn't a wife and child murdering scumbag.....so unless you've had any emails warming you that Snuka's girlfriend has suspiciously died then I say crack on

-Crockett ran The Clash of the Champions event head to head with McMahon's big show. Perhaps the biggest news coming out of the event was an injury to Tully Blanchard. It's understood that Tully suffered a hernia due to a botched spot with Ole Anderson in the big 6-man tag match. There's said to be some heat on Ole over the whole situation. Blanchard will not require surgery but will miss at least 2 months of action. No word yet on what will happen the NWA Television title.</span></span></p><p><span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:'Book Antiqua';"> </span></span></p><p><span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:'Book Antiqua';">

-Top prospect Ed Ganter was let go following the event as well. Ganter had mounting heat first stemming from a match with Arn Anderson two weeks ago. Arn was said to be livid that Ganter came to the ring "wasted on drugs." The situation was made worse when he competed in a pre-show battle royal and was once again loaded. The company cut bait with him that night.</span></span></p><p><span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:'Book Antiqua';"> </span></span></p><p><span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:'Book Antiqua';">

-Ganter isn't the only one who's drug habits have gotten in the way of his professional life lately. It's said that Rick Rude has been "working through some things" as well. The company recently signed Rude to a written contract extension and see him as a big player down the line, obviously he needs to be healthy and dependable to reach his potential. It'll be interesting to see how the situation develops going forward.</span></span></p><p><span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:'Book Antiqua';"> </span></span></p><p><span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:'Book Antiqua';">

-The Crockett Cup has been pushed back to early May this year. From what I'm gathering, the company wants to do 6 weeks of television to build up to the tournament which will likely be shown on TBS unless a good Pay Per View deal becomes available. In advance of the tournament, Crockett has signed a lot of talent to short contracts with no guarantees. That said, I understand that booker Dusty Rhodes is high on more than a few combinations and may look to keep some extra hands on for the summer Great American Bash tour.</span></span></p><p><span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:'Book Antiqua';"> </span></span></p><p><span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:'Book Antiqua';">

-The big roster reveal on the Clash event was "Superfly" Jimmy Snuka. Snuka certainly has the star power and popularity to help JCP going forward. I think he could potentially match up with Flair for a short program as well. I'm unclear how familiar the Crockett team is with Snuka's past issues with the law, specifically concerning the death of Nancy Argentino. If these issues are brought to light, Crockett may cut bait sooner than later.</span></span></p><p><span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:'Book Antiqua';">

I quite enjoyed the show & love how you're keeping in line with 80s style NWA booking, complete with Dusty finish! <img alt=":D" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/biggrin.png.929299b4c121f473b0026f3d6e74d189.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

Regarding Jimmy Snuka, quite honestly I didn't even think about the murder case involving him when I signed him. I guess I like to think of the game as a fictional universe and a place where those tragedies don't/didn't happen. If people are offended by Snuka's inclusion in this diary however, I am more than happy to write him out quickly. I totally get why people might not want him, shame on me for not thinking of that ahead of time I guess.

The Jimmy Snuka Dilema

If you read the Clash show, you by now have realized that Jimmy Snuka was my "mystery" signing.

So, as mentioned by RingRider, I didn't even consider the tragic Nancy Argentino case when signing and booking Superfly, and maybe I should have. I decided to post a poll over on a google form here and would be grateful if readers would vote on what they'd like to see happen to Snuka in this diary.

Sorry if my post came off as judgmental about Snuka. Looking back on it, I can see how it would have come off that way. I only met to simply ask if those things cross your mind or if I was the weird one! Ha! I actually voted for you to use him if you want to...I was just curious if the thought crosses your mind. By no means am I offended, or do I think that you shouldn't use if you want to. Again...it was simply curious about how other people view him.

Snuka's situation is one of 20/20 hindsight as he kept working for years and years with no one saying boo about it so I don't see any reason not to use him.

And yeah, good luck with Paul Jones' boys in this mod. I had to send both of the Drugged Twosome off to rehab for 4-6 months (it's a random 3-9 months fyi) which certainly altered my Superfly Effect alt version of this mod.

Not sure how much I liked both of the best tag teams in the history of modern pro wrestling (basically my lifetime late 70's-on) get screwy finishes to not get the belts, and they got hosed in the draw having to face off in the 2nd round.

No worries Rider. It's a totally valid thing to consider.

My poll results have strongly been in favor of keep Snuka around and opting to keep the "it's just a game and a fictional universe" mentality.

I've decided to start a general direction with Snuka, but I'm also comfortable abandoning it if any one still feels to need to chime in. I will keep the poll open over the weekend if anyone else wants to vote on this issue. I've also gotten some PMs about the issue as well, which it totally cool with me if you are more comfortable sharing your opinion that way.

As far as this comment goes, the best I can offer is trust the process man. Trust the process. ;)

Bart and Jaggers - <em>I would totally feel this would go to Rotundo and Graham, but the tournament isn't laid out right for them. With the Warriors next, they'll need heels to steamroll.</em></p><p>

RNR Express - <em>The New Breed would have to wait until 2002 to have a chance to win this match.</em></p><p>

10 Man Over the top rope Battle Royal to establish contender to Television Championship:

Arn Anderson, Barry Windham, Big Bubba Rogers, Ivan Koloff, Jimmy Valiant, Kevin Sullivan, Nikita Koloff, Ole Anderson, Ron Garvin, & The Barbarian

-Arn screams TV champ to me

Block A Crockett Cup Qualifier: Mike Rotundo & Mike Graham vs. Black Bart & Bobby Jaggers--too bad Graham and Rontundo are in positions to job so much--I like the pairing, but as Beej said, they don't like up for the Road Warriors

Block B Crockett Cup Qualifier: The Rock & Roll Express vs. The New Breed

Block C Crockett Cup Qualifier: The Thunderfoots vs. The Sheepherders --excited to see this what the 'herders can do for you. Hopefully you're not opposed to a good blood bath with these guys.

Block D Crockett Cup Qualifier: The Lightning Express vs. Johnny Ace & Tommy Angel --Big Brad has been delivering

Frankie Williams vs. Vladimir Petrov

George Wells vs. Ron Simmons

Bonus Point: Who will the runner-up in the battle royal be? Hmm...this could go a number of ways but Ole makes sense if I'm going to pick Arn

Nikita kept a hot streak going as sending the "Boogie Woogie Man" packing.</p><p> </p><p> Suddenly the crowd erupted as Ole got his first taste of Arn in the middle of the ring. As Ole delivered a series of haymakers that kept Arn rocking, Nikita was ambushed by Ivan Koloff, again bringing the crowd to it's feet. Nikita no sold his uncle's offense however, and soon the big Russian military-pressed Ivan over his massive shoulders and to the floor! </p><p> </p><p> Half the ring was cleared leaving Arn, Ole, Nikita, Windham and Garvin. The Anderson cousins kept after each other and Nikita was left with Garvin and Windham. First Nikita dropped Garvin with a giant boot to the face, but that allowed Windham an opportunity to sink in a claw hold on the big man. Windham used his claw to bring Nikita to the top and Windham tried to get him off balance to get him out. Garvin recovered however and came join his partner in eliminating the big Russian. What he succeeded in doing however was eliminating both men as Barry and Nikita went out together! Windham was visibly upset on the outside, pounding the apron and calling up to Ron.</p><p> </p><p> Ron tried to explain that it was accident, but the momentary distraction was enough for Arn to slip behind and dump Garvin right over! </p><p> </p><p> That left the two Anderson cousins and nowhere to go. Ole came at Arn with fire and intensity. He laid in a barrage of punches and chops that left Arn's chest glowing red. Ole dragged Arn to the corner and began to leverage him across the turnbuckles to get him out, but Arn stuck a thumb clear in Ole's eye to get out the predicament. Showing no honor and no respect for his own blood, as Ole sold the eye, Arn came from behind with a blatant low blow! </p><p> </p><p> There was no coming back for Ole after the wicked cheap shot and Arn was the last man standing to David Crockett's disgust.</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Winner: Arn Anderson</strong></p><p><strong> Grade: (C+)</strong></p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong>Show Rating: C (popularity up in 9 regions, down in 2 regions)</strong></p><p><strong> TV Rating: 1.66</strong></p></div><p></p>

Prediction Contest Update:

Oh my! I keep missing predictions there.

But anyway, it was a great episode of NWA WCW.

Thanks Gustav. There will plenty more opportunities to predict. I asked it a few pages back, but if people think I'm dropping the shows too rapidly, I will make an effort to slow down.

Couple of Thoughts:

--Glad people are excited about the Sheepherders. Besides seeing the Bushwhackers as a kid, I've only seem some random footage of the 'herders from the early 80s myself. It's a world of difference to see that team compared to the WWF. I'm looking forward to seeing what I can do with them. This might be the first time I've ever used them where they're not in time decline as well.

--Surprised so many people correctly pegged Arn to win that first battle royal! I guess he's the guy that a lot of picture when it comes to that title.

--Looks like you guys are noticing the love for Brad Armstrong...to me, he'll always go down as one of the great "coulda-beens." Maybe it's a leap to say, but I think in some ways he could have been WCW's answer to Bret Hart with better booking.

--Lastly, I agree with the sentiments on Mike Graham and Mike Rotundo. I wish I had a better use for them at the moment. I haven't intentionally jobbed them out...just wrong place/wrong time.

Need to finish booking the next episode of WCW. I expect that will happen today so the prediction card should be up in a few hours.

Some from within the company fear that the company might be spending too much at the moment on talent, yet the decision was made by Crockett himself. The feeling is that signing these talents will prevent the WWF from swooping in and signing these guys away, as well as to have a large enough roster on written contracts that the company begin a touring house show business. Personally, I wonder if Crockett is over-extending himself, especially in light of all the new talent brought in for the Cup.</span></span></p><p><span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:'Book Antiqua';"> </span></span></p><p><span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:'Book Antiqua';"> -Apparently Jim Cornette's firing of "Loverboy" Dennis Condrey was a shoot this past week. Booker Dusty Rhodes seems to think the ceiling for the Midnight Express with Stane Lane is significantly higher than the ceiling with Condrey.
