Guys you tried to push but it just didn't pan out.

Recommended Posts

Wrestling is a cut throat business and everybody is looking for the next big breakout star. However, sometimes things don't quite work out for a handpicked star and he doesn't get as over as the booker wants him too or maybe he does something that kills his push. I want to know who have you guys tried pushed in your private/diary games in the C-Verse/T-Verse/Real world etc but it never worked out for whatever reason. I'll get the ball rolling with a few of my own stories.

Clark Alexander

Before I switched computers, I had a private game in TEW 2016 as ELITE Pro wrestling where former porn star turned actor turned TV Executive Tommy Pecker (Real Name: Thomas Eckerton) was tasked by Arcadia to make a professional wrestling company for the network. With Pecker placed as the owner, he hired former SWF booker Peter Michaels to book his new cult company, EPW. Based purely on the risque, cult and T&A product, some of the workers were given their own gimmick names that the company could own. Clark Alexander was the evil Religious Zealot Deacon Alexander, a perfect main event level heel for the company's rabid fans to boo. Deacon started off as a main eventer and was pushed from the beginning with big wins over Marc DuBois and Texas Pete in the first two shows to push him to the moon. I continued his push over the next few months where he held the main belt for about a year and a half. Despite having a decent run putting on meh to decent grades, he never truly reached the heights in popularity I wanted him to. He had an awesome character and looked like the right choice to push, he even had three goons for awhile Doug Peak as Elias, Marvel Malloy as Noah and Storm Spillane as Issac. Despite his momentum being through the roof and creatively being one of my best characters ever, he topped out at 55-59 pop around the US, with Fro Sure as Black Power face DeShawn Bryant, Remmy Skye as face stoner Bernie Blaze and Greg Gauge as Underworld mafia leader The Boss, face stoner Marc DuBois and

heel alcoholic Texas Pete all being more popular, Alexander lost the belt to DeShawn Bryant at EPW's biggest show, Seek and Destroy in August 2017 and was dropped down the card from that point forward before I lost the save due to save corruption when passing it over to my new computer. I've tried to restart it recently but it never really got off the ground.

Marc Speed

In a recent run with TCW, Marc Speed was my pick for the new "heel" of TCW, picking him as a challenge due to his poor ent skills and meh SQ. Having him beat veterans Peak, Bryant, Hill and Anderson to make his way up the card, his true coming out party was when he beat Ricky Dale Johnson at Total Mayhem in 2017 to become the top heel in the company. It all looked good until at Hotter Than Hell later that year when he lost to Sammy Bach in a number one contenders match for the TCW World title (to face Aaron Andrews at Destructive behaviour), he dropped from a 82-84 pop to 75-78 and Sammy went from 82-83 to 85-87. I got Speed's pop back to around 82 when he lost to Jay Chord at A Little South of Sanity when he dropped back to around 76 while Chord jumped from 80 to 84. It seemed every time he lost a "big match" he dropped a huge amount of pop and I lost faith in him and jobbed him back down the card to a midcard roll. I eventually just deleted the save as once 2018 hit, I was finally starting to bleed stars as Bach, Golden, Taylor and Hawkins all left for SWF (Hawkins, Bach and Taylor) and USPW (Golden) in 2018.

Mascara Roja Jr

In a MHW save I've been running for awhile, I wanted to get Roja into my main event after two years as a midcard presence. With Blue Phantom, El Mitico, Felipe Caballero, Jagged and Mustang Blanco, all of which had 57 or higher in pop in Northern Mexico (my home region), I needed to get Roja to get to 50 to get him in the main event so I set my sights in late 2017 to get him there. However, it hasn't quite worked out so far. His pop hasn't increased since Dec 2017, I'm now in May 2018 and it seems he has topped out at 48 pop, just short of the 50 I need to get him to the ME level. This is strictly a matches only game and despite him holding the midcard belt since February, I haven't been able to get him those final few points to get to the top.

I now hand the mic to you, GDS community. Who have you tried to push and didn't quite work out.

In my current TCW, I've been trying to elevate Matt Hocking. Had him form a team with Dazzling Dave Diamond and by the end of the yeae, they both turned heel. I love them as a team. Hocking is the cocky asshole and Diamond being more violent, using brutality to antagonize. They've been protected and rarely lose, only to main eventers. However, Hocking's performance still at a low B and so because of that, it's been hard to teuly6elevate him, which is frustrating.

<p>My booking tale of woe surrounds Greg Black. Black, of course, is a solid veteran who can have good-to-great matches with pretty much anyone. At the start of my C-Verse save, I signed him to a new, customized, workrate-oriented company I'd formed, and because he was among the most over of the first batch of guys I signed, he became my first World Champion. However, after his popularity climbed into the low-50's, it actually began to drop until I was able to get the title off of him. People just didn't buy him as a top-level guy for a smaller company.</p><p> </p><p>

Black DID have a bit of a resurgence about a year later. I signed Elmo Benson from TCW and reformed High Concept, which pushed his popularity up some. However, while Benson is now a low-level main event guy for a company that's grown to national size (he's at low-to-mid 80's popularity in the U.S.), Black's has stalled in the mid-60's. I keep meaning to pick the game up (since it's been dormant for a month or two), and when I do, Black may get a heel turn as one last attempt to get him over. If it doesn't work, he probably doesn't get re-signed when his contract is up.</p>

<p>In every RTG and Regional and Under game I play. </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

Seth Whitehead: I have repackaged him time and time again. Mr. Average (Dastardly badguy with a 50/50 win/loss ratio). He was given a mask and worked as both a face and a heel as Handsome Jack (Yes, from Borderlands 2). I have given him the name Seth Black (Half Seth Rollins, half Tyler Black), and he played a determined face counterpart of early TNA double J. </p><p> </p><p>

Seth Whitehead was signed to my roster every game I played as these small companies, and if I played long enough, he would get stolen from me. Every time. It didn't pan out because I couldn't keep him on my roster.</p>

<p>Exclusively been playin CV97 so...</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Barry Kingman:</strong></p><p> </p><p>

I had him debut in my development fed with the intent to give him some sort of defining role. I took his fathers moniker, "The Crippler," and made him a bad ass of some sort. I called him up as he was already around 70s in technical and 80s in basics/psychology, and instantly paired him with the best manager I could find. Sadly, even though it was working Barry was second-string to the manager, so I had the manager betray him and join Phillip "Enforcer" Roberts. I achieved exactly what I wanted, a bad ass "wrestler" except it was with Roberts, who is now 88 popularity and making my midcard title a "floating" title with his 4 straight 95+ rated title defenses, while Barry is likely to be apart of my next yearly releases for 2006, while Roberts is definitely looking to hold my main event title soon and usher in a more "wrestling" approach to my product, moving away from the sport entertainment product.</p><p> </p><p>

Few more but I'll mention them later.</p>

<strong>Lion Heart</strong>: In rtg games he's always a go to top face for me until I hit regional and then I can't keep him at the top of the card no matter what I do. He just slides down the card until he finally hits the lower Midcard/opener level and stays there for the rest of his career

In my 97' mod I signed Raven in late 99' to lead Abyss and Stevie Richards to take out Undertaker around S. Series, and cut promos leading to Taker returning and have a WM match. Raven couldnt keep up with getting good ratings on the promo's. He was wasted in his match vs Taker at Mania, and has been my biggest failure. I will probably give up on him soon here. Any ideas on what to do with Raven in WWF 2000?

<p><strong>Bedlam</strong>: I tried so hard to make him work. He got over, got into shape, developed some solid charisma and vastly improved his stamina. But he was a J-E-R-K. He basically became a black hole of hatred in the locker room and started just breaking every single policy until I finally just flat out fired him and took the hit and the lawsuit. I've got a 100% backstage environment and tons of super happy people that I wasn't going to jeopardize because he's a massive tool.</p><p> </p><p>

He hasn't changed his working area from the British Isles, even almost 2 years after being fired, so he hasn't worked since.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Harry Wilson</strong>: Not only was he a good, consistent midcarder, but he showed some real sparks of brilliance at times. I finally turned him into a manic, almost Broken Matt-esque, heel, which got him SUPER over, only for him to suddenly turn into a selfish dick to everyone. Same with Bedlam, I fired him in the end, which royally pissed off Dark Angel. He's currently in the same boat as Bedlam.</p>

<p>A few recurring and recent failures:</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Ricky DeColt</strong></p><p> </p><p>

Alright I give up with him. In 3 CV2016 games I have failed. In 2013 I failed. Now in CV97 I have failed. He just won't get over. Do I book him incorrectly? I never have an idea, and even when I do he just doesn't get over enough. I just truly am baffled. At this rate he is fighting for his job, thankfully I have also acquired Edd Stone so I might use them as a tag team, if that fails he is definitely out.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Sammy Bach</strong></p><p> </p><p>

Sammy demanded to be called up, I really couldn't fit him in, but I tried. I gave him a few lower midcard bouts and in his first PPV match he was injured for 3 months. Okay, no big deal. He returns... and is injured again. So not only did I Have nothing planned but he is now pushing as Opener/Enchancement and right now he is just jobbing on my B show. After Total Mayhem IV he is definitely getting released.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Matt Sparrow </strong></p><p> </p><p>

Well, Sparrow is my resident jobber for life at this stage. He just doesn't get over. He is also capped out at as a pretty average worker, with good SQ. Matt has been with me since I've booked USPW from 2001-2003, and then signed him up and he has been with TCW since. 6 years. I don't want to get rid of him and I enjoy having a jobber. He doesn't seem to care, so this is where Sparrow is.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Remmy Skye</strong></p><p> </p><p>

Twice now I have failed with Skye. The first time was in 2016, I tried to clean him up and get his shit together, failed. He injured someone and ended their career so I cut him. Now in CV97 he is a pretty subpar worker, which is okay because he is young, but he is also a problem backstage. He alongside Sammy are getting cut after Total Mayhem IV.</p>

Fro Sure

Started a company at Cult level (Easy difficulty) and to start, put the belt on Fro Sure. He put on some decent matches and had the SQ that I wanted to use as the company got closer to National. But he wasn't pulling ratings compared to other main eventers and he eventually dropped the title as I stole some guys from TCW.

Kirk Jameson

Same game, Jameson started with 94 Star Quality so I wanted to push him, but he didn't really seem to gain much overness. A year and a half later, he's still in the 30's in Overness and is almost forgotten in my midcard.

Teddy Powell

Again, same game. Powell actually got a good, successful run with my midcard title, but like the above, didn't gain much overness. He's a solid veteran hand, but his Bitter Veteran gimmick has meant that he doesn't really make small appearances teaming with my young midcard, and I haven't found someone I want to bring in as an ally for him, so he sits on the wayside of most of the storylines.

Whenever I use Lion Heart, I book him as a blue blood heel. Giving him the much fancier name Langston Lyons because I do agree "Lion Heart" sounds too face to book heel. Could also be that he just suffers from low Destiny rolls. But personally it does sound like you might be booking yourself into a corner having him face.</p>

<p>The Biggins Brothers, and a lot of that is because they are just both at the twilight of their careers. But even as henchmen or gatekeepers, I just can not keep them at the level of their competition. The best I've done with them is have them be cult members to someone (Bach, Greed, etc), and even then they are just different versions of jobbers. This doesn't matter if they are separate (which they are in this game) or reuniting, I can never utilize them.</p><p> </p><p>

Its worse in this TEW16 because they start broken up and don't have each other to lean on, but I've ALWAYS had issues with them. Doesn't help that I have the opposite problems with the Bumfholes, who never fail to shoot up the card without effort.</p>

<p>Roman Reigns in my WW... oh no, wait a minute, that happened in the real world.</p><p> </p><p>

In my TNA 2014 Game I really wanted to push Samuel Shaw to the Main Event, because in my opinion, he had it all. I don't know exactly why but it never worked out. He never reached a better position than Midcarder, meanwhile, Robbie E reached the Main Event within 4 Months (interestlingly i never gave him a huge important win or something.)</p>

<p><strong>Christian Price and Donte Dunn</strong></p><p> </p><p>

I've tried to give them both good pushes up the card, featuring them in hot angles. It took Donte forever to get reasonably over so I just gave up. Christian Price got over quickly, but his in ring skills never grew to a main event level (same problem I have with Donte), and he said some racist remarks in my current save so it took him from the B+/A pop I worked so hard to get him to down to Bs across the board. </p><p> </p><p>

When you add that with the toxic state, I had to let him go, but I didnt feel badly about it because he wasnt progressing his skills to match the popularity I had pushed him to anyway.</p>

<p><strong>Joanne Rodriguez:</strong></p><p> </p><p>

She's an interesting case, managed to get her to a main event level popularity and booked her in a title match with Sensational Ogiwara. I forgot to book the winner and so she ended up with the title which admittly helped me at the time as I had a big event coming up with next month without anything for Ogiwara so I had a rematch ready right there. Well Ogiwara won her belt back and Rodriguez never really recovered. The next year J-Ro get her revenge and won the belt for a second time but even with a year long reign with the belt she never got to the heights of pop in her first run.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>DEVIL Karube:</strong></p><p>

Really wanted her to be the next star for my Dragons brand and designed a year long storyline (actually just ripped off the real-life Tanahashi/Okada feud) just to do that. Well despite having great matches her pop doesn't really seem to fit and she's always auto-pushed as an upper midcarder. Now I'm considering taking the belt off her.</p><p> </p><p>

Typing this up I just realise the common denominator between these two is that they both had an important loss to Sensational Ogiwara, probably just a coincidence.</p>
