WWE 2017- A New Beginning, A New Direction, A New Era

Recommended Posts

In an office adorned with championship belts, plaques and awards,

Vince McMahon sits behind an enormous desk. He is shaking his head right to left vehemently

“No. Absolutely not Paul. This company has stood the test of time because of the way we do things. We have a brand. We have a product here that sells. World Wrestling Entertainment has been and will always be just that. Entertainment

Our view pans out and we become aware that Triple H is standing in the office as well. He is pacing back and forth with a mug in his hand. Coffee? Tea? something else?

“I’m not disputing that Vince. I am just saying that times are changing. Entertainment is changing. People want something different. They want to go to a WWE live event and forget that the outcomes are predetermined. They want to watch two stars do battle in the center of the ring. They want to see a fight, Vince. They want something that looks like a war. They want to BELIEVE that the two guys in the ring really hate each other.”

“It’s a work Paul. Its always been a work and they know that. They want colorful characters. They want storylines to follow. They want grandeur and spectacle…”

“And they can have all of that Vince! They can have all of that and still see something in the ring that blows their minds. Let me give them that. You brought me on as COO because you valued my opinion, no?”

“Of course I do Paul it’s just that…”

“Then value it now Vince. Give me the freedom to do this and I promise you I will deliver”

Vince pauses and looks down before calmly addressing Paul

“……….I just don’t know anything about the style Paul. I can’t consent to something I know nothing about. I wouldn’t have the slightest idea how to book what you’re talking about”

“Then give me Smackdown. Let me put this product on Smackdown and see if it floats. I won’t touch the Raw style. Let me give the product a kick in the pants. Something fresh, something intense. Give me Smackdown and I will show you what I am talking about. Raw can uphold the traditional WWE style of storytelling. Smackdown will bring American fans something the likes of which they have never seen before.”

“…….I hope you’re right Paul. God I hope you’re right.”

“I’m right Vince. This change will allow the company to appeal to two sets of fans. Trust me on this one”

“OK. You can have Smackdown and try this but believe me I will be watching the ratings like a hawk. I will pull this at the first sign of trouble. Understand?

“Understood. Thank you Vince. You know I want what’s best for the business just like you. This move is best for business….”

I'll set up the conference with creative. You'll need to explain this to them....and me for that matter, tomorrow morning.

Triple H turns and lets himself out of the room. Vince, clearly not 100 percent on board, shakes his head and picks up his phone as our picture fades

Hoping This draws a bit of interest as Ive got a pretty cool idea for a new WWE save im trying out. This is my first ever diary and im hoping writing it out here will make it more interesting for me personally. Figured I might share with all you as well.

Going to be following Triple H in a back story unrelated to the in ring storylines that will be featured. Basically following him backstage in his decision making process and his interactions with creative and others in the front office in addition to the storys and matches that the fans are seeing. Sort of an inside backstage look just for us

In a large conference room sits a long oval table surrounded by a dozen or so members of the WWE creative team. Michael Hayes, Stephanie McMahon,Jesse James and Arn Anderson among others sit patiently flipping through yellow legal notepads or clicking away on laptops. At the head of the table sits Vince McMahon. Standing at the front of the room in front of a projector screen is WWE COO Paul Levesque.

I want to thank you guys for flying in here on such short notice. I know RAW is tonight. All of you have other things you could be doing but you're here.

I am not going to waste anybodies time here. Im on a schedule as are every one of you so I will get right to the point. For years, decades, World Wrestling Entertainment has provided for the American fan a product that awed them. A product that sucked them in and kept them glued to their television screens. It didnt matter what we did they came back for more.

It was a product they could relate to. It was an escape for them. I was a spectacle.

Lately, however, that hasn't been the case. Ratings have slipped and I feel it is in this companies best interest to try something new.

Several members of the meeting perk up and lean in as Paul finishes his last sentence

What if World Wresting Entertainment were to give its fan base two entirely separate products? What if you could watch traditional American pro wrestling on Monday night just like you did when you were a kid or if you ARE a kid, just like you have been doing since you started watching the program but then on Tuesday night be introduced to something you have never seen before?Would it draw you in?

What I am suggesting is bringing the modern WWE fan a style of professional wrestling that appeals to a different kind of fan. A style that piques the interest of not just the curious American fan, but fans on a global level.

What I am suggesting is bringing strong style wrestling to the WWE.

At that, the creative team furiously types on laptops or scribbles in notepads. Dave Finlay looks particularly enthused. Paul turns his attention towards Vince

Now let me explain just what that means. That means that Smackdown will take on the appearance of a more legitimate sport. Matches will be stiffer, titles will matter, and feuds will be for reasons that combat athletes might actually fight over. Of course, this isnt Japan and I wouldnt imagine a true Japanese strong style would work here. This will,

of course, be a bastardized American version of the style. Youll still get your hell in a cells (when it makes sense of course). Youll still get your ladder matches (when it makes sense of course) and smackdown superstars will still partake in events like the Royal Rumble.

What you WILL see though is a heavy emphasis on tournaments. A stronger importance on wins and losses. Champions who earn the belt and challengers who battle to get a shot at it. I see a product that will make you truly forget that its a work

Vince seems a bit more relaxed now at the explanation. He may have even allowed a smile to cross his face if only for a moment

Guys, what I am proposing has never been done before. There has never been a wrestling company that features two entirely different products on its shows. This is revolutionary. This is historic.

This will usher in a new era of prosperity for this company and for all the stars who work under our banner.

Ladies and gentleman of the WWE family, welcome to the new reality.

Welcome to the new WWE.

There is an air of excitement in the room as Vince stands up and shakes Pauls hand. Members of the creative team are already jotting down ideas and running things past each other. The atmosphere is thick with intense excitement and the feeling of positivity amongst writers is noticeable as the scene fades

He stands with Chris Jericho, the honkytonk man, Pat Patterson and all the other great intercontinental champions. He has carved out a title legacy that will one day land him in the hall of fame where he belongs.

Ambrose Music Hits.

Dean says its funny that Miz has brought all these Intercontinental title accolades up since…you know…hes NOT the intercontinental champion. The way Dean sees it, you cant be the best IC champ if you aren’t actually the champ. Miz says his loss of the belt was a fluke. Dean says hes glad Miz is feeling his oats tonight because he is feeling pretty generous. He offers Miz an IC title shot right here tonight. Miz accepts and the main event is set.

The two stare down before Brock Lesnars Music hits and Paul Heyman appears alone. He says fortunately for the two clowns in the ring, Brock Lesnar isn’t here tonight but he wanted Heyman to deliver a personal message to the two of them. At extreme rules, it doesn’t matter who climbs through those ropes. The fact of the matter is they will be beaten, victimized, and CONQUERED.

Alexa Bliss/Nia Jax defeat Sasha Banks/Bayley by Pinfall when Sasha Banks turns on her partner and allows Alexa to pick up the pin

Segment 9 (Grade-B+)

Bray Wyatt is out in the ring and talking about Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns laying claim to the number one contendership. He says that there not a man on earth capable of beating Brock Lesnar. Thankfully though, He is not a man. He is a GOD!!

Braun Stromans Music Hits

Stroman appears at the top of the ramp. He says that Bray may be a god but he is a monster among men. He tells Bray that instead of focusing his attention on Brock Lesnar he should be focusing it right here on the Monster staring back at him. Stroman says he may have broken from the family many moons ago but he never gave Bray what he deserved for keeping hold of him for so long. His time is coming…..

Segment 15 (Grade-B+)

Pre match Interview with the Miz. He cant believe the WWE would employ a disrespectful vagrant like Dean Ambrose. Tonight he brings the IC title back to its rightful home.

Segment 16 (Grade-B)

Ambrose retains the title over Miz when Miz and Maryse botch a distraction

Segment 17 (Grade-C)

Smackdown Live May week 1

Segment 1 (Grade-B)

Triple H Is in the center of the ring with Daniel Bryan. He announces with great pride that the WWE is taking smackdown someplace new. Smackdown will be harder hitting and more legitimate than ever and it starts tonight.

Daniel Bryan announces that since Randy Orton does not have an opponent at Backlash, one must be provided for him. However, Smackdown does not currently have a number one contender. Therefore, tonight they will begin the search for Randy Ortons opponent in 2 weeks.

Dolph Zigglers Music Hits and he makes his way to the ring.

“For years and years I have sat back while everyone else has pushed their way to the top. Tonight starts my own climb to the peak of that mountain. Tonight I get to show a side of me that no one has seen before. I gets to show off…a STRONG style.

As Dolph says those final words, Shinsuke Nakamuras music hits and he elaborately makes his way to the Ring. He grabs a microphone and addresses Ziggler.

“You say you will show off…strong style? Shinsuke Nakamura is KING of strong style!!!”

The crowd goes crazy but before it can all be soaked in, AJ Styles music blasts and he begins walking down the ramp while talking.

“Shinsuke, I know all about strong style. After all, I am a former strong style champion myself. I led the bullet club and I had one of the greatest matches of my career against you Shinsuke. Now, the biggest and most important aspect of strong style wrestling is respect and I must respectfully point out that I have some unfinished business with the King of strong style and so for that reason I am throwing my hat into this ring because these people deserve to see this thing done right!!”

Aj Styles climbs in the ring and squares up with the other two men but moments later, Finn Balors music hits! The crowd goes nuts as does the announce team

“THAT’S FINN BALORS MUSIC!!! FINN BALOR IS HERE….ON SMACKDOWN!!!!”

Balor steps out from behind the Titantron to an electric response from the crowd. He walks down confidently to the ring with a huge smile on his face. He is enjoying every second and soaking in the crowd reaction. Climbing into the ring he grabs a Microphone.

“You know, when I heard that Smackdown live was planning on going in this direction I knew that I had to be here for it. And as I stood backstage watching this I couldn’t help but smile at the magic that was happening in this ring. But something here is bothersome to me.”

Balor turns toward Styles

“AJ, you accomplished something I was never able to accomplish when you won the heavyweight championship in Japan. But I would like to make something very, very clear. You may have led the bullet club but I MADE the bullet club. The faction that is one of the greatest in the history of this business was MY creation. Now if you want to talk about qualifications and doing this thing right, I don’t think theres any better way than for you and I to go head to head for this opportunity”

AJ looks slightly irritated but seems to accept that Balor has a point.

Daniel Bryan, now surrounded by competitors, takes center stage again.

“So it looks like we have a bit of a conundrum on our hands here don’t we? You four men are all clearly qualified and frankly you all have a reason to be standing here tonight. Therefore, we are going to do this the old fashioned way. Tonight, you four will face each other in two singles matches. The winners will face each other on next weeks Smackdown to determine the number one contender.”

The four men in the ring seem pleased with the decision but before the matches can be made, the lights go off and Samoa Joes Music hits.

“Finn Balor AND Samoa Joe?!?!?!?!?!”

Joe steps out from behind the curtain but does not make his way to the ring.

“If strong style is here……so is Samoa Joe.”

The annoucners Chime in

“Samoa Joe announcing his residency here on Smackdown live! Now what happens?”

Daniel Bryan steps in again

“Ok Joe, Smackdown has always been the land of opportunity. Now it’s the land of strong style wrestling so Ok. I will find you an opponent tonight and the winner of that match will enter next weeks match as well to make it a triple threat match.”

Joe looks pleased.

“Now since we’ve got everyone here already, why don’t we get started? Dolph, you were the first one out here tonight so you can have the first match. And who better to show off your “strong” style against than the king of strong style himself.”

Dolph and Nakamura stare each other down as the other men exit the ring

Segment 2 (Grade-B-)

Shinsuke Nakamura Defeats Dolph Ziggler

Segment 3 (Grade-B)

Daniel Bryan is backstage in his office when Kevin Owens Barges in. He says he still hasn’t been told who his opponent at Backlash is going to be. A champion deserves to know his opponent as early as possible. He doesn’t want to have to sit through any of this tournament garbage and end up with only a few days to prepare. He wants a name and he wants it tonight.

Bryan tells him that he understands and tonight he will schedule a 5 man elimination match with the winner being declared number one contender to the united states title.

Owens tells him he is pleased that he has finally made a logical decision for once and storms out.

Segment 4 (Grade-C-)

American Alpha Defeats the Colons

Segment 5 (Grade-C)

5 Man elimination match for the number one contendership for the US Title

Xavier Woods vs Luke Harper vs Big E Vs Tyler Breeze Vs Baron Corbin

Big E Defeats Tyler breeze with the last elimination to become number one contender. Tyler Breeze eliminated Xavier Woods and Baron Corbin in a strong showing.

Segment 6 (Grade-C+)

Kevin Owens walks out onto the ramp and stares down Big E.

The two jaw back and forth a bit before Owens walks back behind the curtain

Segment 7 (Grade-D)

Naomi Defeats Tamina

Segment 8 (Grade-D+)

Charlotte comes out after the match and attacks Naomi. She stands over Naomi in the ring and says that at Backlash, she plans on taking BACK her rightful place as the Smackdown Womens Champion.

At that, Natalyas music hits and she comes out onto the stage. She says that things have changed around here. Title opportunities aren’t just given and if Charlotte wants a shot at that belt at backlash, she will need to get through her tonight.

The announcers make a point of talking about Natalyas training in the dungeon and how theres no more dangerous woman in the locker room in a fight.

Segment 9 (Grade-B-)

Samoa Joe Defeats Sami Zayn Via Submission

Segment 10 (Grade-C+)

Sorry it took so long to get the first smackdown up. Bee crazy at work. Got a bit of time tonight so I'm planning on fleshing out and outlining the stories coming up. Feel free to add any input, ideas or predictions you have.

Also, criticism is ALWAYS welcome. I'm brand new to diarys so I'll take anything you've got. I have a few ideas I think are solid that I'll be outlining today. I'm also thinking about creating my own "WWE Website" that I will link to here and people can visit.

Hoping to make this as interesting as possible and involve everyone here as best I can. Hope you are enjoying the read!

So I am looking for a little bit of advice here. I am starting to think that running two entirely separate products, while fun in theory, is going to be far to much work for me to consistently post to the diary.

Here is what I am thinking of doing instead. Setting up a scenario in which Triple H becomes the sole owner of NXT. It breaks away from WWE entirely after either Vince Gifts it to Triple H Or they have a falling out and HHH wins it in a lawsuit. If i do the lawsuit version i will edit HHH to have a Negative relationship with Vince. I will also consider divorcing him from Stephanie and giving them a negative relationship as well. What do you think sounds better?

I would run the same idea im running now, basically running a strong style promotion in the United States that would be trying to compete with WWE. I would be editing NXT starting budget to simulate Triple H putting his own money into it and I would bring over 2 or 3 WWE guys to simulate them either walking out or Vince allowing them to go as a favor to HHH (depending on the scenario)

My question is, would you like to see me continue this current project even though I think I will be putting something like 1 show a week up or would you like to see Strong Style NXT where i can progress things at a much faster pace?

I know im still really early into this Diary so it may not even have enough of a following for people to care one way or the other. If I dont get any input on it I will assume that the interest wasnt there to begin with and I will go forward with my new plan.

Thanks!
