July 2017 Draft Hype/Signup Thread

Recommended Posts

It seems I have misunderstood the rules for bringing back retired or out of the business workers. Is it correctly assumed that if they don't have the favored role 'Wrestler', they can't be used in that capacity?

In that case, could I please have my draft picks of Sara Del Rey and Mio Shirai cancelled? I have unfortunately no need of them in their roles as road agent or referee respectively.

Rather than backtrack on my bungled draft picks which is an ugly solution anyway, alpha2117 has offered the following trade, which I've agreed to:

To WWAA: Sara Del Rey, Mio Shirai + WWJ's 30th round draft pick

To WWJ: WWAA's 29th, 31st and 32nd round draft pick.

Ok, aside of some loot crates, that's all my draft picks. I bungled up some picks, but I'm overall very happy with what I've been able to put together.

While largely a typical Japanese mainstream product, there's going to be an edge to it. And a women's division, because hey, we're progressive. I thought of doing it the way DDT does it, with a separate company (or brand) for the women's show, but I don't think the game will be kind to that kind of solution. Might be worth an experiment though in an alternative timeline.

My heavyweight division is very well equipped. I might even move Marufuji to the juniors to make it a little less crowded. Or just let the lightweights float across the line. Most of the listed Junior Heavyweights below are lightweights and could if need be compete in the heavyweight class as well. It's all a matter of perception...

I will probably sign one or two junior heavyweights once the game start to fill out the ranks a bit, and I think three women to make that division a little less bare. What is there though I am very happy with. I have the current top joshi names, I have a future name in Hana Kimura and I have the all time great Toyota to teach her the ropes. Plus good broadcasting deals and an alliance that I hope will make the annual tournaments very interesting. I kind of lack a big monster character, but I'm undecided if I need one or not.

Like I said, I did bungle some picks. The already discussed picks of Del Rey and Mio Shirai fortunately came late in the draft or I would be more upset. The pick of the PPV deal with SKY Perfect was probably too early, could have been better used to pick up some still available talent like Ishii, Zack Sabre Jr or Marty Scurrl, just to name three names I'm a little bummed I didn't grab in time. Or Mayu Iwatani. I think Satoshi Kojima was an unnecessarily early pick, though I'm glad I have the bread lover in the company. I'm sure there were others I could have picked later, but those are the ones that immediately come to mind.

Heavyweight Division:

Kazuchika Okada

Kenny Omega

Katsyuri Shibata

Naomichi Marufuji

Shingo Takagi

Jay Briscoe

Mark Briscoe

Satoshi Kojima

Adam Cole

Susumo Yokosuka

Go Shiozaki

Masato Tanaka

Junior Heavyweight Divison:

Hiromu Takahashi

BxB Hulk

KUSHIDA

Masato Yoshino

Ryusuke Taguchi

Matt Sydal

Cedric Alexander

Jun Kasai

Low-Ki

Joshi Division:

Kana

Io Shirai

Kairi Hojo

Arisa Nakajima

Meiko Satomura

Hana Kimura

Manami Toyota

With the draft nearly finished i want to give some thoughts about the draft, using the questions from the previous draft.

- What was your goal in drafting your roster?

I started the draft with the goal to draft only workers which fit my more hard-hitting indy product. My first pick was AJ Styles who fits that criteria. After Styles i had another idea. Why dont i draft mainly workers from the mainstream wwe product and force them into my product? Thats the reason behind all the wwe guys.

- What pick were you most excited about?

To be serious, im most hyped about Heath Slater. I just love that guy. I would love to push him over the moon. One man band babyeeeeeeee!

- Are there any picks you regret?

No not really. Instead of Tenzan i could have picked somebody else. But then again, its freakin´ Tenzan!

- What were some of your favorite picks made by other players?

Avalanche´s first 5 picks are just over the moon.

- What were some picks made that puzzled you?

Destiny has an interesting roster. Im still not sure what to expect, but it could be either apeshit or just amazing:D

- How do you see your promotion unfolding once you're able to play it?

Im really hyped. Forcing guys like Big Show in my product will be interesting. I hope that not to many injuries occur.

With the draft nearly finished i want to give some thoughts about the draft, using the questions from the previous draft.

- What was your goal in drafting your roster?

I wanted to create something kind of unique - balanced between men and women fairly evenly and also to rep diversity a bit, hence the trans woman, exotico, the Chinese and indian workers.

- What pick were you most excited about?

I was very happy getting Jericho & Cena with picks 10 & 11 - that really gives any sports entertainment style fed such a solid base that I had a lot of freedom after that point to go with people I like.

- Are there any picks you regret?

I left it late to get TMDK thinking nobody will be taking them. I made a trade for them and got 2 extra late picks but lost the Uso's - I'm not shattered but it was unfortunate that I made a bad judgement call in my draft order. I regret taking Enzo & Zack Ryder when I did because I am sure I could have got them later at will to be honest. It all worked out okay but I would have drafted slightly differently down the home stretch if I still had the Uso brothers.

- What were some of your favorite picks made by other players?

I like all the different flavored rosters but HRTV's inspired left field 1/2 combo of The Rock followed by Tanahashi just immediately conjured up one of those dream match scenarios which we know we'll never actually see in real life.

- What were some picks made that puzzled you?

A few people stuck with their creative vision for their fed and didn't pick up some high popularity guys early. That's all good but it makes it hard to solidify your base. So yeah maybe rockambition and Destiny who stayed very true to their vision at the potential cost of their financial viability. Southside picking Bryan in the 2nd round puzzled me a little because his head health stats mean he's problematic. I figured he'd probably go a few rounds later than that.

- How do you see your promotion unfolding once you're able to play it?

Eye candy matches galore early to try to get pop up for the girls slowly morphing into a lot more serious stuff later. A lot of mic work from Miz, Jericho & Cena early. Cesaro to get a huge push. Braun to destroy people. Pretty standard stuff. I'll be trying to get as much money as I can to upgrade the network locally - Australia is relatively cheap to do that in but it's still going to take a while. Having that network means I should have a decent income stream and stay in business and I'll be in a good place to expand internationally eventually but I expect it to take time to get to that level. As long as Cena & Jericho stay active and available I'm fine but any early injuries or absences to either could really hurt.

It is sometimes mentioned how WWE see their product as basically a soap opera, revolving around wrestling. I wanted to make a WWE that was the opposite - what if WWE presented a legitimate sport (which still consisted of the traditional in-ring wrestling but (almost) none of the convoluted storylines. Just hard-hitting action, but at the same time a product that would have relative mainstream appeal. If it's sports, why not a women's division?

- What pick were you most excited about?

Early: That Kenny Omega passed back to me in round 2. Later: I'm a big joshi fan. The whole group from Kana and Io Shirai to the legend Manami Toyota, even if she's retirement ready, those picks meant a lot to me.

- Are there any picks you regret?

Well, I did trade away Sara Del Rey and Mio Shirai, didn't I? <img alt=":p" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/tongue.png.ceb643b2956793497cef30b0e944be28.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> I was actually not sure about picking Shibata at all. He's one of my absolute favorite wrestlers, but his real life injury was so sad I wasn't sure how to feel about taking him in the draft. But I guess it's not regret as such. I think I picked the PPV deal with SKY Perfect too early, but hey, it's alright.

- What were some of your favorite picks made by other players?

I think southside_hitmen drafted terrifically all through, and the trade that allowed him to get CM Punk and Brock Lesnar was really solid. Uncrewed picking up Eita, Ishii and Daisuke Sekimoto in rounds 12-14 were great pickups. HRTVAndrew grabbed YAMATO just before me, and I think Juanster's pick of Penta El Zero was one of those where I realized I was never going to get him, but I still got a bit jealous.

- What were some picks made that puzzled you?

Eh, lots of picks surprise me. I think getting Big Show and Tenzan in round 2 and 3 was surprising, but I'm never going to criticise someone for drafting a wrestler they like. I suffered a bit playing the waiting game with some wrestlers, didn't get my favorites, and it's the worse alternative than getting them too early.

- How do you see your promotion unfolding once you're able to play it?

I don't know. I have never had a really successful game with a "big" company, but I think I really want to make this work. In theory, it should be equipped to succeed, I think. I'm curious how the alliance with PCW is going to work in game, if the AI is going to be as cooperative as southside_hitmen have been in the draft. If so, I see no reason why it shouldn't go well.
