Recommended Replacement for Photobucket

Recommended Posts

Seeing that Photobucket is now charging $400 a year to upload photos on websites (look I understand they are a business, and I feel like people complain about businesses even though if we were running them we would do the same things because businesses are there to make money. For example, McDonald's crazy prices they have now, look if they did research and realized they would make a lot more money with those crazy prices than we would all do the same thing, but $400 a year?! Jeez! I can't imagine anyone actually paying that. $10 a year I could understand, and some people would actually pay it!) is there any good upload sites you guys have found? I looked at the forums and I haven't been able to find one specific site that people can agree on. I think there is also a good lesson here in that we should always be backing up these pictures on are computers in case Photobucket or someone else gets wiped out.

I posted this in the mod forum because this is the forum were people post the pictures.

They seem to put something random after http://i.imgur.com/. That is a deal breaker for me if they don't allow it as it is going to cause a problem with 1 of my projects.

I found that Imgur for me, will not work. It changes the file names, and when posting multiple cuts at a time, this is a BIG hassle. I started going the route of making my own site, but don't quite have the funds to get going what I would like. Free sites tend to limit you a lot while making your own site..

Anyway, I have been searching and searching for a suitable, perfect, photobucket replacement, as I'm not willing to shell out $400 a year for their 3rd party sharing. I have come up with this list below of different sites I've tried, along with what they change files to when posting the [ IMG ] code:

Example File name: AJ Styles.jpg

Photobucket: AJ%20Styles.jpg

Cloudinary: AJ_Styles.jpg (limits you to 2GB Storage with free account)

imgbb: AJ_Styles.jpg (easy to create folders, get BBCode to embed in forums, limits to 16MB/upload) (currently waiting to hear back about Storage limit).

Imgur: Y21CPYy.jpg

There's a few others I tried, but nothing I really liked as much as imgbb until I can get a better full site up and going.

The only problem is you can't choose your own password, they generate 1 for you. I highly recommend postimg. What do you mean you're going to make your own site for your pictures?

I think Postimg is the only one I haven't really looked at. As far as my own site for pictures, there's downloadable codes that mimic Photobucket. Just need the money to get a domain/host and a web builder. There's full instructions on how to do it step by step with what site to download the code, what site to host on, and what web builder to use.

As I haven't started on that project, I don't know if it'll be like Photobucket where multiple people can register, or not. But if it can, best believe I'll be letting everyone on these forums know to sign up <img alt=":)" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/smile.png.142cfa0a1cd2925c0463c1d00f499df2.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

Postimg will not work for how many cuts I upload at a time. They all have a different URL, I also found that out on every other site I've tried, including the imgbb that I recommended, of course it happened AFTER I uploaded all of my worker cuts..

I use my own server (Wrestling Nexus) for this purpose. The diary I did was stupidly short, and there was much more planned from me, but the base work was all there and the bandwidth and space was worth paying for. May use it for other things in the future too.

With a .htaccess file I could prevent hotlinking from certain sites too.

Generally for image sharing I would go with imgur, but it is annoying when you need the filenames.

The links still have the worker's names in them. It would be cool to have a website for this, because it seems like there are always going to be hangups with upload sites for downloads and stuff like photobucket. And the problem is once they problems happen they can kill all of the work you did. It is probably really expensive to do what you are talking about though.

There are also forum boards that allow the hosting of their own images. I whipped up http://www.greydogcuts.forumcommunity.net for my stuff, anyone is welcome to join it as well. All images have the same lead in and file names just get underscores for blanks.

Chevereto is one of the other solutions I was looking at, and isn't all that expensive, but does cost money to run monthly, and goes with a domain already in use, which also has to be paid for. Most domains are an upfront cost for a couple years at a time.

If these sites crash will the images no longer be on my computer? I can't imagine that being the case, but I'm shocked at how that is what happen with Photobucket when I saved them on my computer before Photobucket created the $400 rule.

I feel as a community on here we need to come up with a solution that everyone does and everyone is on board with. The reason I am stressing this so much is because I would hate for 1 day a popular uploading site crashes or does what Photobucket did and users end up losing 50% of the work they worked so hard on. I am also stressing this so much because I know what that is like. At least 2 times I lost valuable stuff on my computer because I didn't back it up. It took me so long to learn my lesson. I lost an idea for a project that was like 300,000 words and something that could of made me a fortune. Even my Dad complemented it and he never complements me on anything! I don't want something like that to happen to the people on here. We need some type of a well structured plan that everyone uses instead of leaving it up to chance.

I mean this has probably reached the point of overthinking. It's just a forum at the end of the day. It's not like we need a crack team to find one website we all use. The forum has existed for like years with people using different websites for hosting and will keep on turning if people keep using different websites for hosting.

There are photos on my computer that I saved before the Photobucket incident that no longer will show up. So I was thinking what happens if most people use, lets say imgur, and 1 day imgur shuts down randomly and no one has access to any of their photos anymore and even if you saved them on your computer before the crash, they still won't show up on your computer like what happen to me with photobucket. Now all of the work everyone did is gone.

Photobucket has stated that you can still download all of your images off their site, as you own the pictures, and they do not. Unsure if this applies for downloading images off someone else's Photobucket.

All of my images are intact yet after the situation with Photobucket. So I don't fully understand this issue. When you upload something onto the internet, it is there forever, no matter how hard you try to remove it.

Wait, hold on a second.

Are you saying files you've saved from Photobucket are no longer showing on your computer?

Are you sure your computer isn't on the fritz? Cause that sounds more like an issue with your computer saving files than it does with Photobucket. How were you saving them?
