Well. I've given a lot of thought about what I want to do going forward, and I think I've made a decision that is beneficial for all parties.

I have decided that due to current events going on with my life that have created a lack of sufficient time in my schedule, a severe lack of creativity and passion on my part and brand new occurrences that I cannot control; I have decided that I will be no longer be posting on this version of Movie Tycoon. This means The Viper's Den will only be submitting one movie this year, 'Golden Girl'.

As disappointing as this is, I feel that this is for the best of all parties involved with Movie Tycoon as it would not be fair to continue on with this if the host for the show was barely there to begin with. It would not be fair for anyone who wants to create movies.

On another note: I feel like I have not just you all down with this version of Movie Tycoon, but myself as well. This is supposed to be a game where you can have fun and use your imagination. I fear unfortunately that I made the overall management of the game more complex and more frustrating. In doing so, I forgot what the real spirit of Movie Tycoon was about. Having fun. Something I (if you have noticed) have not been having much of. From the bottom of my heart, I apologize for this and promise that next version I will try and right this disappointment.

HRTVAndrew, you have done a fantastic job as host and I would love for you to someday bring the series back if you find the time to do so in the future. You have shown that you can hang with the big dogs of Movie Tycoon.

As for me? I'm heading back into The Viper's Den. And let me tell you: There will be some changes come next version. (Here's a starter: The Viper's Den will no longer be doing movies with more than 25 characters. Backyard Sports was murder to keep track of)

Oh, and one more thing:

PERFORMANCES (HRTVAndrew, this is for you)

Paul Feig- 15

Kevin Hart- 44

Adam Sandler- 10

Al Pacino- 13

On what's admittedly a more selfish note: With Russell bowing out, is there anyone, ANYONE, out there who would be willing to handle negotiations/the eventual review for the movie I've recently pitched? I'd be willing to give it a shot. I've pondered whether I'd be willing to take up the "hosting" duties too, but I'm pretty time constrained and only get on GDS once a day or less, so I'm not sure I could do justice to leading the fun along.

Looks like this'll be the capper to the game: "Mortal Kombat: The Reawakening" has been released!

MOVIE DETAILS

Title: “Mortal Kombat: The Reawakening”

Genre: Action/adventure/fantasy

Duration: 1 hour, 44 minutes

Rating: PG-13

Plot: Our movie opens inside the offices of a small-town American newspaper. Reporter Brandon Crosby is hard at work at his desk despite it being well after midnight. A female reporter says he should go home and get some sleep, and Crosby plays along, saying he’ll only be a few minutes. As she leaves, though, Crosby’s eyes light up, his eyebrows shoot up his forehead, and he goes for his cell phone.

We cut to a diner in suburban Austin, Texas, where Crosby is frantically pounding coffee. A beautiful woman walks in, and introduces herself as Sonya Blade. She sits down, and Crosby explains why he’s here. He works for a small publication called Cold Cases Monthly, and has discovered newly-released files pertaining to a boat that went missing from Pier 40 in Hong Kong more than two decades ago. Sonya first dismisses Brandon’s inquiry and then tries to leave, but Crosby says he’s not looking for trouble. The manifest lists one surviving male passenger, and despite looking as best he can, he cannot find anyone named Liu Kang. Reluctantly, Sonya writes down Kang’s address, and she pulls out her phone as Crosby leaves, warning Liu that he’s about to have a visitor.

Suddenly, our next scene hits, and we’re almost shrouded in complete darkness. A shirtless man in a jail cell with a unique helmet over his head seethes, brooding as he surveys the scene around him. He looks up, seeing a man in ninja clothing standing outside. From the back, we see all-black, but a look at his front reveals tan tints to his clothing and mask, along with a live creature sticking out of his hand. The prisoner asks Scorpion if it’s time. Scorpion nods, pulling a key from his pocket and opening the gates. The prisoner joins him, and as the duo leaves, we see a collection of dead bodies lining the walkway as the free man remarks, “The return of Shao Khan has begun.”

We cut to a farm in rural China. The rolling meadow houses a modest cabin, and we see a man meditating on the porch. He’s dressed in all-red, and the silence is broken by an arriving Brandon, who shouts and asks if this is Liu Kang’s residence. Liu is annoyed, and his mood doesn’t improve when he’s asked about the boat in Hong Kong. He’s about to ask Brandon to leave, but rolls of thunder and crashes of lightning beckon overhead. Knowingly, Liu sighs, realizing who’s coming.

Crosby presses, asking Liu what’s going on. Suddenly, a man in all-white with a trademark straw hat materializes behind him. In his stunned shock, Crosby attempts to throw a punch, but the man easily overpowers him while making it clear he has plenty in reserve. Said man introduces himself as Raiden (god of thunder and lightning, hence the storm), and delivers news that Shao Khan has returned to the throne of Outworld following a successful escape of his prison in the Netherrealm. An invasion is likely imminent, so Raiden is mobilizing his forces. Liu is hesitant, saying he has not fought a man in 20 years. Raiden beckons that his rust is only temporary, and that the fire within will return at the right moment. As this happens, Crosby’s phone rings, and it’s the female reporter we heard in the opening of the film. Crosby left his computer open, she explains, and she asks where he is. He says he’s in a very rural part of China, but before he gives too much away, Raiden zaps his phone with an electric beam. He asks who it was, and Crosby answers that it was his paper’s fellow news reporter, Kit Rodriguez. Knowingly, Liu Kang and Raiden utter the same word: “Kitana.” Raiden instructs Liu and Brandon to wait, saying only that he has an errand to run.

Later that night, we see Raiden doing his best to fit in at a UFC fight in Las Vegas. The headliner is a man named Mack Smith who’s built like a Greek god, and he destroys his opponent in a matter of seconds. Later that night, he’s alone in his dressing room when Raiden teleports in. After easily dispatching several security guards with his fighting ability, Raiden introduces himself and says the realm of Earth needs its best fighter. Smith looks on quizzically as Raiden explains the nature of Shao Khan’s threat to the planet, but after Smith asks a question, Raiden’s eyes flicker with lightning, saying that he detects “an unusual force beneath the surface.” He orders Smith to remember his words before teleporting, and Smith is left stunned by what he’s just seen.

Meanwhile, Kit/Kitana gets to Liu’s house before Raiden returns, and an argument ensues between the two. Kit says if Liu wanted to retire quietly, he could’ve done so in Outworld where nobody would’ve followed him. Liu counters, saying he knew Shao Khan would be back. A confused Crosby says he has several questions, but first asks “Kit” how old she is. Her response: “34. Just like I’ve told you…give or take ten thousand years.” Crosby then points out that, if Raiden’s right, Shao Khan’s coming, and he won’t be alone. He urges the two to work things out as Raiden makes another surprise entrance, pointing out that the “nosy reporter” is infinitely more mentally-prepared for the fight ahead of them than either Liu or Kitana. Raiden informs the team that they’ll need to go on a trip. When Crosby asks where they’re going, all Raiden responds with, while grinning, is, “Dress warm.”

Fittingly, we return to a scene of the four in the Arctic, with Liu and Kitana still bickering amidst the driving snow. We find out that Kitana renounced her immortality to live in Earthrealm, knowing that Shao Khan would likely return to his old stomping grounds if he left prison. Irritated by the weather, Crosby asks Raiden if he knows anyone who controls the weather around here, with Raiden quipping, “Sort of.” The snow suddenly stops, revealing a towering ice palace with a ninja clad in blue standing on the frozen steps in front. Raiden addresses him as Sub-Zero, and Sub-Zero says he anticipated Raiden’s arrival sooner rather than later. Inside, Sub-Zero reconnects with Liu and Kitana, and tells his new purpose to Crosby. In short, he protects the Earth’s polar icecaps from global warming in return for immunity from crimes committed by his former organization, the Lin Kuei. Crosby starts writing, but his pen is quickly frozen, proving Sub-Zero’s lightning-quick reflexes are intact. Raiden explains the return of Shao Khan, and, after having been assured he won’t lose his deal by leaving, Sub-Zero agrees to help the team out.

In Outworld, Shao Khan sits on his throne in a cave lit only by fire. He warns Scorpion that Raiden is mobilizing his best fighters, and that they don’t have long to prepare for a pending invasion. On cue, a small army of militia fighters loyal to Outworld’s former ruler (Kitana’s birth father) storm the cave. However, despite their best efforts, Khan and Scorpion subdue the attack, adding their skulls to a pile of them sitting in the corner. Khan’s order to Scorpion is simple: “We leave now.” That night, Raiden attempts to sleep peacefully, but sees an unusual comet streaking across the sky. He wakes up all inhabitants, telling them they must head to the site of the battle, which is likely an island in the Pacific used for Mortal Kombat tournaments in the past. He also reminds his charges that the island is the one place in Earthrealm where he has no dominion, thus essentially rendering him powerless. They attempt to leave Crosby behind, but Sub-Zero points out that his unfamiliarity with the climate means his certain death. Reluctantly, Kitana wakes him up, telling him to bring his notepad.

Earthrealm’s defenders (and Crosby) make their way to the island, where Shao Khan and Scorpion wait on the beach. Kitana and Sub-Zero are the first to engage Scorpion. They do so, but Scorpion’s stinger nails Sub-Zero. Sub-Zero attempts to fight back with an ice blast, but Scorpion jerks him into the water. The ice blast then freezes Sub-Zero in the water, killing him. Kitana, though, springs into action. With Scorpion’s stinger and stinging hand incapacitated, he’s easy pickings for Kitana’s martial arts kicks, one of which sends him into a tree that collapses on top of him (thus killing him).

Shao Khan is moved to battle, and wastes no time getting physical with his adopted daughter. Unlike with Scorpion, Shao Khan is not as easy a victim, and Kitana is quickly subdued. Khan taunts Kitana while on top of her, reminding her of the immortality she traded to be with Liu Kang on Earthrealm. Khan prepares to administer a fatal blow, but at this point, Liu has seen enough. Proving Raiden right, Kang launches a fireball that blasts Khan back next to Scorpion’s fallen body. He then springs into the air, laying into Khan with his trademark bicycle kicks. Khan charges, but Liu ducks, allowing Kitana to throw a fan she’d hidden in her pants into her adoptive father, killing him once more and banishing his soul to the Netherrealm once more.

Crosby celebrates on the beach at what he’s just seen, but Raiden stops him, feeling something is not right. Indeed, another figure emerges on the beach: That of Mack Smith. This time, he’s brooding, with his eyes locked firmly on Raiden. Smith explains his true purpose: He is not merely a mortal fighter, but the reincarnation of Shang Tsung, the universe’s most dangerous sorcerer. Shao Khan put him in Earthrealm to gauge a timetable of when to return, and Smith/Tsung reminds Raiden that, as long as he exists, Shao Khan’s destiny will live forever.

Prompted by the boasts, and reinvigorated by his re-found powers, Liu Kang extends a challenge for a winner-take-all bout. Raiden attempts to stop him, but Liu reminds him that he’s spent most of his life running from his destiny and must, once again, take control of it (Crosby writes this down in his notepad, but Kitana kicks it away). Smith/Tsung accepts, setting the stage for the climactic battle.

The two fight it out on the beach, taking advantage of their surroundings. At one point, Smith/Tsung absorbs Scorpion’s soul from his lifeless body, transforming into him. Liu gains the upper hand, but Smith/Tsung extends the scorpion into Kitana, jerking her forward. Kang recoils, saving her from being whipped into a tree and resulting in a short embrace until Smith/Tsung (back in Smith form) returns and pounds on Liu. Liu, though, reestablishes control of the fight, flinging him backwards into the frozen water and catching his breath. Smith/Tsung fights for his life, and only survives upon transforming into Reptile, spitting the water out and bursting back to the surface with a renewed vengeance. He attacks Liu Kang once more, but in the time it took him to recover, Liu built up another fireball, one that explodes upon contact with Reptile and kills him instantly.

Kitana rushes to congratulate Liu, hugging him as Raiden gives the OK for Crosby to celebrate. He frantically scribbles down what happened, but Raiden shoots him a treacherous look. He mentions that ordinary mortals are not supposed to know what happens during Mortal Kombat, and that if word ever got out, Earthrealm would be subjected to vicious attacks from many realms, including those not yet discovered. A compromise is worked out whereby Crosby is allowed to report on the death of UFC champion Mack Smith, whose body was “discovered” by a couple vacationing on a private island in the Pacific Ocean (Liu and Kitana). When Crosby asks if such deal-making is common, Raiden asks, “How do you think Bruce Lee REALLY died?”

Liu and Kitana talk, ultimately realizing that their romantic relationship is unsustainable. However, they depart on much better terms than those they departed on years ago, and Raiden agrees to use his authority to restore Kitana’s immortality so she can return to Outworld as its rightful ruler. Additionally, Raiden goes into the water and shocks it with lightning from the heavens, thus reviving Sub-Zero. The mortals and their allies depart the island, and we follow Sub-Zero to his hideout…only to see that the ice palace has been destroyed. An aerial shot shows that all that is left are shards of ice on the ground that spell the words, “NOOB SAIBOT.” Sub-Zero pulls out a cell phone, calling Liu and telling him, “We’re not done yet,” before the movie fades to black.

Well if that's the last movie, HRTV, it's a solid way to finish this season of Movie Tycoon before the awards section.

Should do well come review time.

I've been pretty busy of late so haven't had time to work on any productions unfortunately but I was pleased with the 3 I did and managing to land a blockbuster with American Idiot was pretty sweet.

Good job to everyone who took part. Was a good run! <img alt=":D" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/biggrin.png.929299b4c121f473b0026f3d6e74d189.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

I have few ideas to improve or worsen the game if you like to hear them HR I will pm you them.

I think whenever we start the next version of movie tycoon we should not start over but instead we should take our progress here to the next thread or this same thread so Everytime we take a break we don't need to start over with 10m again and again?

REVIEW: "Mortal Kombat: The Reawakening"

M. Night Shyamalan: 25

Jackie Chan: 42

Neil Patrick Harris: 47

Joaquin Phoenix: 33

Tom Hardy: 42

Colin Farrell: 30

Zoe Saldana: 14

Idris Elba: 45

John Cena: 8

Jennifer Garner: 21

Ratings

Story Quality: 3.5/5 (The scenes jumped around a lot, but it made sense from a narrative perspective and travel scenes aren't totally necessary. Still it made the beginning feel a little jumbled. The film moved fast and maybe could've used some exposition for those not as familiar with the franchise.)

Production Quality: 4.5/5 (Definitely a good amount spent on production, but definitely a movie that needed a lot as well.)

Acting Quality: 4/5 (The leads and main antagonist were stellar, but Cena failed to convince as a surprise additional villain and Saldana wasn't convincing as a martial artist.)

Ending Quality: 4/5 (Good setup for a sequel. Kang & Kitana's relationship not rekindling was disappointing with audiences but also understandable.)

Movie Rating: 4/5 (Quite possibly the best Mortal Kombat film and a good setup for a potential franchise (at a poor time).

Finances & Star Power Effects

You can determine.

Heads up: I haven't forgotten about this! I'll generate my financials for the last movie and then move on to awards. Hopefully, I'll have that stuff up tomorrow.

What do you say about bringing our progress forward to the next game?

Personally, I'm not the one to ask (since I, in all likelihood, won't be the one modding the next game, whenever it happens), but my take is that doing so penalizes people who want to join in, but have to start with $10 million. If others get to start with ten times that in the bank (perhaps more), that puts newer players at a decided disadvantage, and I don't think that's fair.

What I'd suggest, if there's support for it, would be to allow former studios to return, but with a fraction of what they had at the end of a previous game. That way, the reward for loyalty is still there, but it's not there in such a way that it crushes new players/prevents them from enjoying it as much as they could. If it was me, my plan would be a maximum of half of one's balance up to a maximum of somewhere around $50 million, but again, that's up to the next mod (whoever that turns out to be).

That fraction will also be great but also the film histories just to give everyone what have been accomplished in the past one.

I remember you saying you are busy for the next few months but I will be happy to wait for you to be free after all that months and return with it but I think it would be great if you have a co mod with not just to review your film but to share all the film duties equally so nobody gets overwhelmed.

Been short on time here and there but just dipping in again to extend my thanks to you HRTV for an excellent job modding the game.

If I'd come back in sooner I'd have been happy to do the financials if given the provisions, but alas! You're trustworthy enough to do your own anyway, I suppose.

But yeah, I had a blast with my 3 productions and look forward to the Awards Ceremony review! Well done, lad.

Little later with this than I'd have liked, but work really HAS been kicking my rear end this week. Anyway, here are the box office numbers I came up with for "Mortal Kombat: The Reawakening."

Box Office: $120 million

Physical Copies: $16 million

I'm hoping to have awards up within the next couple of days. Thanks for your patience, everyone.

You know the thing that's really annoying about this round of the game conking out when it did is that I have a concept flick I've been waiting two or three years now to do during a winter session. If I were to start it now it might be presentable for December.

UPDATE: I'm in the process of doing awards now. I apologize for the delay, but without getting too much into it, work has been running me ragged, and I ABSOLUTELY made the right call ending the game when I did. I simply would not have had anywhere close to the appropriate amount of time to run the game had it continued any longer.

To those who were hurt by the closure of the game, I apologize, but trust me, it was the right move. Awards will hopefully be up within the next hour or so.

Look forward to seeing you for the next version.

Awards time!

I attempted to follow the directives Russell laid out in the first post of the thread. However, there were several awards that I was not able to give out, and for some reason, the initial list of awards did not include Best Director, which I've added. Additionally, while many categories had several highly-qualified nominees, due to some horrible dice rolls, we had just one nominee for Best Lead Actress. Finally, I quantified "supporting" award winners as those who had "major" roles as opposed to "lead" or "minor." Hopefully, that's OK.

Well done, HRTV. Didn't mind the wait as it's nice to grt a summation of what we achieved. And the dice were clearly in my favour as my production company was affiliated with 5 award wins:

Best Production: American Idiot.

Best Supporting Actor: Billie Joe Armstrong.

Best Supporting Actress: Sophie Turner

Best Director: David Lynch (3 of the top 4 in this category)

Best Movie: American Idiot (Top 2 here)

I'm blessed and humbled. Thanks for running a fun game! And, of course, to RussellRules44 for kicking it all off in the beginning.

Good job.
