Movie Tycoon: The Sixening

Ok, so obviously things did not immediately pan out the way I thought they would.

However, I've been having talks with fellow player and former host Ayden and he's laid down a cool idea that I think you may like.

NEW: When a studio reaches $100,000,000; they now have the opportunity to sign stars to 'franchise contracts' and lead to some interesting scenarios if a movie tanks or succeeds.

Now, let's get to some negotiations.

He Was My Best Friend

Director:

Frank Darabont: He'll do it for $1,300,000.

Marc Forster: Good to see someone's looking for him. $1,000,000.

Surprise Deal:

The people behind Walking Dead came up to you and have authorized a special deal. They will pay for all the Walking Dead talent used if you let them give you a bonus $5M for the production and marketing budget.

Oh yeah, and one more thing; if the movie ends up performing well, expect to see some new characters from your movie become a part of the cast.

Please let me know how you would like to proceed.

Kate Berry:

Mackenzie Aldajem: She'll do it for $100,000.

Aryana Engineer: She'll do it for around $60,000.

Farrah McKenzie: Also $60,000.

Kennedi Clements: $60,000 again.

Officer James Ruben:

Matt Cedeno: He'll do it for $325,000.

Tom Everett Scott: He'll go shoot some people for $300,000.

Joseph Gatt: Hell yeah, it's in his wheel house. $200,000.

Celebrity Cameo:

Skillet appreciate the compliments and will be willing to make two to three songs plus lend you Would It Matter in exchange of at least 10% of all royalties. (Physical copies)

John Cooper will also kill a bastard for free if you're wondering.

Review: #01

Movie In Question: Lynch Him

Studio: Hot Freezy Studios

What It’s About: Lynch Him is the first of what hopes to many movies for Hot Freezy Studios, it tells the story of three men who find themselves playing a game of life and dead against a mysterious figure named ‘Mr. N’, who challenges them to find the one person who has killed before and turn the tables on him before it is too late.

Story Quality: For this part of the reviews, I will start off with what went wrong first and then work my way up to what went right. The direction admittedly is slightly clumsy in spots, some decisions are made that come out of nowhere and seem to serve only to shock audiences. This is fine as this is a horror film and they are meant to shock audiences, but when it comes at the price of storytelling; that’s where we start to have a problem. This will be explained in more detail when we get to the ending.

Another big problem this movie has is that two of the three characters that are trapped are completely unlikable. Nayeem Sethi is the budding actor who has only acted in C list movies but has a big ego. And they aren’t kidding, he is arrogant, egotistical and very rude to the people he’s surrounded with, this may have been the idea for the character; but if that is the case it sort of makes it worse. If you are going to write an ‘asshole’ character, you need to give him a couple of redeeming traits; with Nayeem, I couldn’t find any. At least with Anthony Davis, there was at least an attempt to make him seem likable. He’s a carpenter who’s trying to make life better for his family and has issues with the landlord, that seems like the groundworks for a potentially relatable character; but he too falls into some of the same pitfalls Nayeem has, being very abrasive on occasion to the people around him.

In contrast; Rajbir Singh (a financier who hates to use violence and whose sister was molested a long time back) is the most likable character in the movie. You can tell he cares deeply about his sister and he wants to get revenge on the man who molested her and it’s a very dark twist that we don’t usually see in a movie. A very well done effort from Hot Freezy Studios.

Mr. N is also a very solid villain character; he doesn’t appear much, but when he does he makes a big impact. He’s sharp, he’s quick-witted, he’s devious, he’s kind of like an indian version of Discord from MLP:FiM. Admittedly, he wouldn’t want to have people try and get someone murdered because they did that to someone before; but I digress.

While there are issues here and there with story-telling and execution of characters, the main story it does tell is solid, to the point and an interesting take on horror movies.

Rating: 3.25/5

Production Quality: With a budget of only $1,500,000; I was not expecting high-class. And that’s what not what I got. What I got was a gritty, underground, dark looking movie that looks like something out of a video game from 8th generation video game consoles. It helps that the movie was beautifully directed by Sriram Raghavan, a director from India. Critics were slightly concerned about his debut effort for American screen; but he blew them all away with this attempt using the budget to his advantage and masterfully incorporating the videotape effects to give the film an extra kick. If there is anyone who’s star shined in this movie, it was certainly him and without him, I doubt this movie would have been as successful.

Rating: 3.5/5

Acting Quality: The acting quality is a little spotty, but let’s take the good with the bad and go from here.

The Bad:

Amitabh Bachchan- Really disappointing effort from Amitabh as he seemed to underact everything he did, which hurts the appeal of the character as he is supposed to be a deviously charming villain. That is the one nitpick I have with the character. I don’t know if it was because of nerves or him simply not caring; but this was not one of his better attempts- 1.5/5

John Abraham- Not as bad as Amitabh but still very poor in comparison to others. Came off to me as slightly wooden in places; but if there is a saving grace to him, he did make an attempt to show some emotion and for that, I can commend his effort. Unfortunately, it just was not enough for him- 2/5

The Good:[/B]

Vicky Kaushal- Vicky was the perfect choice to place Rajbir Singh, he comes off as personable, determined, sympathetic and likable. He seems to live the character and that’s good because he gets the most screen time in this movie and his performance made an already likable character even better- ⅘

Saqib Saleem- But even so, that pales in comparison to Saqib Saleem who despite the bad character proved to be the acting highlight of the film. He had a charm to his character and decided to take into business for himself and make the best out of a bad situation. What we get is a masterclass where Saqib puts the audience under his skin with his obnoxious personality, and it works so well. In a way, this actually made the character a little better. I can only hope that Saqib continues to build a career for himself in Hollywood because this was a smash-hit of a debut- 4.5/5

Overall Total: 3/5

Ending Quality: This was...interesting. And in a good way, In the end; Ranjib finally musters up the courage to tell Mr. N the murderer (Anthony) and ends up killing him in the process. And then there is a crazy fight scene where Sethi gets tangled up in a wire and Ranjib Singh finally snaps, choking his life away and eventually getting his hands on the molester, killing him as well.

This was likely the only way this movie could realistically pan out and personally, I think it works. Ranjib finally comes full circle with his character arc and gets exactly what he wants and Mr. N successfully manipulates someone to do their bidding. It was a little bit of a surprise seeing Sethi being sacrificed as I thought maybe he had a little bit of a soul in him, but all in all, *it was a winning situation for all parties that may or may not warrant a sequel.

Rating: 4/5

Overall: 3.4 out of 5- This is a very promising start for Hot Freezy Studios, a good (if not somewhat drifting) storyline, a decent showing from the cast and a clutch performance from a director who may have made a name for himself; Lynch Him looks to be the launching pad for more successful movies in the future.

Misc. Information-

A Bollywood Sized Thanks: India is very grateful that your studio took the time to bring their actors and directors to America to show them what they can do and whatnot. As a result, the input of Indians watching the movie is significantly higher than in all other countries.

Some people were a little bit weary on a studio taking on molestation, but worries were vanished away when they saw how it was executed. Close shave my friend.

Jacob’s Quotas: Well done man, a much better attempt than at Standing Back. Helped that lady luck held onto you just enough to edge things out.

SP Showcase/Talent Info:

Vicky Kaushal’s good performance racks up a solid 0.5 to double him up to a 1 SP.

Amitabh Bachchan’s SP is already low as it is, this movie did not help matters at all. -0.3 SP to him give him the second lowest SP total with a paltry 0.2.

Saqib Saleem shot up to 3.4 after gaining an impressive 2.9 SP.

John Abraham loses -0.1 for a weak performance, sending him to 0.4 SP.

If you thought Saqib Saleem was big, Sriram Raghavan gets a three point SP bombshell taking him all the way to 3.5 in the blink of an eye.

Saqib and Sriram are thankful for giving them this golden opportunity and will work with you in a discount fee.

Budget: $5,500,000.

Box Office: $11,050,000.

Physical Copies: $9,000,000.

You had a box office surplus of $13,500,000

New Total: $23,500,000.

The Walking Dead is an interesting offer. To make sure I am understanding it correctly, they'll pay for all The Walking Dead talent if I let them give me money? Count me in!

We will cast Farrah McKenzie for Kate Berry and Tom Everett Scott for Officer James Ruben.

Send a huge thank you message to Skillet and we would love to have Cooper in the movie!

Curious, what happened to Alicia Berry? I assumed she doesn't count under The Walking Dead franchise, was she forgotten about?

Woohoo I'm excited!!

Hopefully Marvel will make a deal like The Walking Dead to us.

@RusselRules44 I think our Budget was 5.5M.

That was Onix-pected.

The film did great. Though the final scene was a flashback.

The only thing worrying is Amitabh Bacchan performance as his character was going to get a visual presence in the coming sequel.

I will post the next movie tomorrow.

I thought that being bullied by others would generate sympathy for Sethi.

MR N is not a straight out villian, He falls in the shade of grey. You can say what they do is selective justice.
