UFC: The WME Era

Recommended Posts

With WMMA 5 on the horizon, I thought I'd end my progress on WMMA 4 with one final save, however this time I am going to do it in the form of a Dynasty to prepare myself for WMMA 5. I am using 5teezy's RW mod updated as of August, around one year after WME bought the UFC for 4.2 Billion. So without Further ado, lets get down to business.

http://i68.tinypic.com/25sosgh.jpg

Before I get into the rosters and such I have to point out a few things.

As you'd expect I'll be running this playthrough as Dana White, CEO of the UFC. Firing is on so that can be an interesting twist down the line. I have put the majority of my points into Negotiating, Match Making and Promotion. I play with the Fog of War turned off because I just cannot stand it personally.

I have chosen to start this mod one year after the sale because a lot of the people within the MMA media believed that the first year was going to be a rocky one for the UFC, and so, in the same way WME are dealing with what has happened throughout this first year. I will too.

As of now the UFC has literally hundreds of people on their roster. The WW and LW divisions alone have upwards of 70+ and so I will be cutting a large portion of the roster, leaving anywhere between 25-40 in each Division. The UFC is supposed to be the place for the best fighters. With so many fighters that moniker becomes a little less important.

Lastly to follow on with this, I will be ending the UFC's TV deals with Fox, I may still do the occasional Fight Night which I will hold exclusively on fight pass. But I plan on reverting to the style before the FOX deal, when the UFC treated itself more as a sport promotion as opposed to the entertainment factor it is now. Which means less annual shows. Right now the UFC do 50 shows a year. I plan on doing no more than 25-30 as to not over-saturate the market. Instead of doing 45 average cards and 5 good cards. I'll do 20 Great cards. Quality over Quantity.

But now lets get to the roster.

For the newer divisions, such as Women's Featherweight and Women's Flyweight. They do not yet have an established ranking. But below will be the initial top 10 + the champion for every weightclass along with a few thoughts moving Forward.

Heavyweight

http://i63.tinypic.com/2z4zot0.jpg

Champion

Stipe Miocic: 17-2

#1

Cain Velasquez: 14-2

#2

Fabricio Werdum: 21-6-1

#3

Alistair Overeem: 42-15-1

#4

Junior Dos Santos: 18-5

#5

Ben Rothwell: 36-10

#6

Francis Ngannou: 10-1

#7

Josh Barnett: 35-8

#8

Derrick Lewis: 18-4-1

#9

Mark Hunt: 12-11-1-1

#10

Andrei Arlovski: 14-8

Thoughts & Plans

When it comes to the heavyweight Division, for the most part they're all on the back end of their careers within the top 10, Arlovski, Hunt, Barnett, Rothwell and arguably JDS and Overeem too. Planning for the future has to be of major importance here. The obvious future star of the division is Francis Ngannou at #6. But outside of the top 10. Alexander Volkov at #15 is only 28 with a record of 28-6 and could be a future top 10 player. Along with #20 ranked Ruslan Magomedov.

As far as the next Title Shots go the obvious choice is Cain and have Werdum face Overeem in a Title eliminator. For the rest of the top 5. JDS can have the chance to defend his position in the top 5 against Ngannou and the same goes for Rothwell against Derrick Lewis.

Light Heavyweight

http://i68.tinypic.com/10e0ad1.jpg

Champion

Daniel Cormier: 19-1

#1

Jon Jones: 22-1

#2

Shogun Rua: 25-10

#3

Glover Teixeira: 26-5

#4

Jimi Manuwa: 17-2

#5

Alexander Gustafsson: 17-4

#6

Corey Anderson: 9-3

#7

Rashad Evans: 19-6-1

#8

Ovince St. Preux: 20-10

#9

Gian Villante: 15-8

#10

Antonio Nogueria: 22-7

Thoughts & Plans

The Light Heavyweight Division surprisingly interests me despite the lack of stars available in the top 10. When it comes to newcomers in the division there isn't many. Misha Cirkunov at #11 and Volkan at #13 come to mind, the future of light heavyweight certainly isn't shining. For sure one of the thinner divisions.

As it stands, Shogun, in 2017 sits on a three fight winning streak and with Jon Jones still suspended for another few months or so. It's going to be hard to deny Shogun a chance to become the Light Heavyweight Champion for the second time. When Jon returns from suspension he is without a doubt the next contender, as for the others in the top 5. The obvious match up to make is Manuwa Vs Gustafsson and allow Glover to defend his position in the top 5 against #6 Corey Anderson.

Middleweight

http://i65.tinypic.com/so9t6q.jpg

Champion

Michael Bisping: 30-7

#1

Yoel Romero: 13-1

#2

Robert Whittaker: 18-4

#3

Chris Weidman: 13-3

#4

Luke Rockhold: 15-3

#5

Jacare Souza: 24-5-1

#6

Lyoto Machida: 22-7

#7

Anderson Silva: 34-8-1

#8

David Branch: 21-3

#9

Vitor Belfort: 25-14-1

#10

Derek Brunson: 16-5

Thoughts & Plans

Middleweight is one of my favourite Divisions, it is simply so stacked. Anyone in the top 10 can beat eachother at any time, for sure going to be one of the best divisions to book. When it comes to fighters to keep an eye out for. #8 David Branch, #15 Krysztof Jotko and #11 Kelvin Gastelum could be future stars in the division.

The issue right now with the Middleweights, is that a lot of the top 10 guys are coming off of losses and with current Champ, Michael Bisping out with a knee injury for a few more months, the obvious fight to make is the Interim Title Fight between Yoel and Whittaker as they did in real life. Seeing as the remainder of the top 5 are coming off of loses, #4 Luke Rockhold going against #5 Jacare seems logical, and with Weidman on a three fight losing streak, close to being cut he'll defend his position within the top 5 against David Branch.

Welterweight

http://i66.tinypic.com/ih5m4x.jpg

Champion

Tyron Woodley: 17-3-1

#1

Georges St. Pierre: 25-2

#2

Damian Maia: 25-6

#3

Robbie Lawler: 27-11-1

#4

Stephen Thompson: 13-2-1

#5

Carlos Condit: 30-10

#6

Gunnar Nelson: 16-2-1

#7

Neil Magny: 19-5

#8

Dong Hyun Kim: 22-3-1

#9

Jorge Masvidal: 32-12

#10

Donald Cerrone: 32-8-1

Thoughts & Plans

Welterweight is another fun one with plenty of young talent. Unranked fighters like Usman and Platinum Perry come to mind, along with #14 Colby Covington and #13 Erick Silva.

As for the top 5, with the returning former Champion GSP back, it's only logical he fights current Welterweight Champion Tyron Woodley for the belt he never lost. Damian Maia is currently on a hot win streak, and may have to sit out for a while as ranks #3 through #5 are currently on losing streaks. Speaking of, Carlos Condit will most likely defend his position in the top 5 against #8 Dong Hyun Kim while #3 Robbie Lawler defends his place against #6 Gunnar Nelson. As for Stephen Thompson the only fight left in the top 10 for him is #7 Neil Magny.

You can also expect former WEC/Strikeforce Welterweight Champion Nick Diaz to make his UFC return later on in the year.

Lightweight

http://i63.tinypic.com/drcnpj.jpg

Champion

Conor McGregor: 21-3

#1

Khabib Nurmagomedov: 24-0

#2

Tony Ferguson: 22-3

#3

Edson Barboza: 19-4

#4

Eddie Alvarez: 28-5-1

#5

Nate Diaz: 20-11

#6

Anthony Pettis: 19-6

#7

Gibert Melendez: 22-6

#8

Dustin Poirier: 21-5-1

#9

Beneil Dariush: 14-3

#10

Justin Gaethje: 17-0

Thoughts & Plans

Three fun divisions in a row. Lightweight is another Interesting one as only two of the top five are currently coming off of a win. When it comes to the future of the division, #14 Kevin Lee, #10 Justin Gaethje and #15 Rustam Khabilov are good picks. Though, the current Champion Conor McGregor is young in his own right, providing he can handle the top contenders at lightweight could remain at the top for some time.

Although this goes against everything I've said so far. I'm a big believer in finishing a trilogy, and while Nate Diaz is coming off of a loss, he is the perfect opponent for Conor's first Title defence from the financial side of things. This leaves Khabib and Tony to fight in a title eliminator. As for Eddie Alvarez, his bout earlier on in the year against Dustin Poirier fell to a no contest and as such it makes sense to re-book them. This just leaves Edson Barboza, however as of right now he has a shoulder injury and is out for a bit, so we'll see where he falls into things.

Featherweight

http://i67.tinypic.com/1z2ix5h.jpg

Champion

Max Holloway: 17-3

#1

Jose Aldo: 25-2

#2

Frankie Edgar: 22-5-1

#3

Chad Mendes: 17-4

#4

Cub Swanson: 25-7

#5

Yair Rodriguez: 10-2

#6

Ricardo Lamas: 17-5

#7

Darren Elkins: 22-5

#8

Dennis Bermudez: 16-6

#9

Korean Zombie: 14-4

#10

Jeremy Stephens: 25-14

Thoughts & Plans

The Featherweight division is somewhat of young division right now, with Aldo passing the torch to Holloway, we also have Yair at #5 and Dennis Bermudez, Renan Barao and Brian Ortega are all fairly high ranked under 30 guys. Looking further dwn the ranks, #15 Doo Ho Choi is a good prospect along with #18 Mirsad Bektic.

When it comes to the top 5, Frankie is the right option for the next Title Fight against Holloway, and perhaps his final chance of becoming a two weight champion. Jose and Cub Swanson make a lot of sense to rematch, seeing as Cub didn't get time to hit the ground running in their 8 second match in WEC. That leaves Chad Mendes and Yair Rodriguez. Both of whom are coming off of losses. #7 Darren Elkins is on a four fight win streak and as such deserves the fight with top prospect #5 Yair Rodriguez while #6 Ricardo Lamas can get the opportunity to rematch Chad Mendes.

Bantamweight

http://i67.tinypic.com/f27xwo.jpg

Champion

Cody Garbrandt: 11-0

#1

Dominick Cruz: 22-2

#2

TJ Dillashaw: 14-3

#3

Marlon Moraes: 18-4-1

#4

John Lineker: 29-8

#5

Raphael Assuncao: 24-5

#6

Bryan Caraway: 21-7

#7

Aljamain Sterling: 13-2

#8

Thomas Almeida: 22-1

#9

John Dodson: 19-8

#10

Jimmie Rivera: 20-1

Thoughts & Plans

Bantamweight, along with Featherweight and Flyweight is full of a young stars, such as current Champ, Max Holloway, John Lineker, Jljamain Sterling, the list can go on. Hell even the "older guys" in the division like Dominick Cruz and TJ are only 31.

With the history between them and the fact they both fought on UFC 207, it makes the utmost sense that Cody defends his belt against former team mate TJ Dillashaw. For the very same reasons, both men fought on UFC 207 and lost, Dominick Cruz and John Lineker make sense to clash in a potential title eliminator. This leaves UFC newcomer Marlon Moraes, who is coming off of a loss to clash with #6 Bryan Caraway and defend his spot in the top 5 of the division.

Flyweight

http://i68.tinypic.com/kckm08.jpg

Champion

Demetrious Johnson: 26-2-1

#1

Joseph Benavidez: 25-4

#2

Ray Borg: 11-2

#3

Jussier Da Silva: 19-4

#4

Wilson Reis: 22-7

#5

Henry Cejudo: 10-2

#6

Sergio Pettis: 15-2

#7

Tim Elliott: 14-7-1

#8

John Moraga: 16-6

#9

Ian McCall: 13-5-1

#10

Justin Scoggins: 11-3

Thoughts & Plans

To be quite honest, the Flyweight Division is the one I follow the least in real life outside of maybe the top 6 or so. To my understanding it is quite a young division with the likes of Sergio Pettis and Ray Borg on the rise, with DJ himself only being 30.

Joey B only has 4 losses in his career, unfortunatley for him, 2 of them come from the only man ranked higher than him in the weight class, and despite the fact that he is on quite the win streak. There are other, fresh match ups to be made at the moment. That leaves Ray Borg to step up and be the man to stop DJ from breaking Andersons record. The remaining guys in the top 5 are currently coming off of losses. Henry Cejudo defending his #5 spot against #6 Sergio Pettis could be an interesting fight, while two ground specialists in Wilson Reis and Jussier Da Silva can collide.

Women's Bantamweight

http://i63.tinypic.com/2dqvq8h.jpg

Champion

Amanda Nunes: 14-4

#1

Ronda Rousey: 12-2

#2

Alexis Davis: 18-7

#3

Valentina Shevchenko: 14-2

#4

Julianna Pena: 8-3

#5

Bethe Correia: 10-2-1

#6

Sara McMann: 11-3

#7

Marion Reneau: 7-3-1

#8

Raquel Pennington: 9-5

#9

Liz Carmouche: 11-5

#10

Lauren Murphy: 9-3

Thoughts & Plans

Certainly an odd top 10 in comparison to the real life counterpart. You might be wondering where Holly Holm and Cat Zingano are, well they've been moved to featherweight. Another fairly young Division that is still growing.

In real life, Alexis Davis is nowhere near this position, but I shall roll with it, seeing is she is the #2 behind Rousey it is only fitting that she be next in line for Amanda Nunes. Both Ronda Rousey and Julianna Pena are coming off of losses and the two paired together could be a grappling contest. Bethe Correia is coming off of a draw with Marion Reneau and as such it's only logical to run that one back. Leaving Valentina Shevchenko to face either Sara McMann or Raquel Pennington, both of whom are on good winning streaks.

Women's Strawweight

http://i64.tinypic.com/oppy52.jpg

Champion

Joanna Jedrzejczyk: 14-0

#1

Claudia Gadelha: 14-2

#2

Karolina Kowalkiewicz: 10-1

#3

Rose Namajunas: 6-3

#4

Jessica Andrade: 16-6

#5

Juliana Lima: 9-3

#6

Carla Esparza: 11-4

#7

Jessica Aguilar: 19-6

#8

Tecia Torres: 8-1

#9

Joanne Calderwood: 11-2

#10

Michelle Waterson: 14-5

Thoughts & Plans

Another Division, much like all of the smaller weightclasses, full of youth. Barely any of the fighters among the top 10 are even in their mid thirties and with the likes of Paige Vanzant, Alexa Grasso and Cynthia Calvillo are all top prospects.

#1 Claudia Gadelha is sitting in a similar spot to Joey Benevidez in the mens Flyweight in a sense that she only has two losses on her record, both of which come from the current Champion, and so she'll be waiting until Joanna is fresh out of challengers before she gets another shot, perhaps she can fight fellow top 5, Juliana Lima. As of right now there's really only one potential challenger in the top 5, #3 Rose Namajunas is one of the only two in the top 5 yet to face the current Champion. This puts us down to Karolina and Andrade, Karolina is currently on a 2 fight losing streak and so should face #8 Tecia Torres, while Andrade can clash with former Champion, #6 Carla Esparza.
