Coastal Zone Xtreme Championship

Jonnie Perez (c ) vs. Storm Spillane

And we welcome everybody to our new weekend slot for CZCW Tonight! with an Xtreme Championship match.

Perez doesn't quite look in as good form this evening as he did at Uprising, despite the confidence oozing from him after Monday's Tag Title win, but he looks to take the initiative here in the early going, plastering Spillane with a couple of heavy right forearms that leaving him down and dazed. But Spillane is made of fairly stern stuff these days, despite his recent loss to Lance Trueman, and he picks himself up and fights back gamely. He definitely looks as though he is getting back into the fight when he is flattened by Perez's Triple Jump DDT, and that is enough to get the three count from referee Matthew White.

Winner: Jonnie Perez (D+)

We go backstage with the intention of joining Champagne Lover, who apparently has words for the next challenger to the Coastal Zone Championship, Frankie Perez, but he barely gets the first quip in about Frankie's recent absence from regular CZCW show in before the subject of his ire comes flying in from off camera and a brawl backstage ensues.

fS1Dos6.jpg

It takes some time before it abates, despite the efforts of a number of Road Crew and other wrestlers, as both men seem particularly heated, and this one is likely to play out over the next few weeks ahead of Perez's challenge for the belt at Spring Break Bash. (D)

Going Coastal (Lance Trueman/Fernandes Franklin) vs. Notorious (Miguel Rivera/Carlos Barrera)

Notorious are developing an unfortunate reputation for being on the losing end of a number of contests, and despite their best efforts it doesn't ever look like they will turn things around here. There is also evidently very little love lost between the teams, as Cliff Anderson tells us that there was a disagreement off-camera following Monday's six-man tag, with Franklin blaming Rivera and Barrera for their loss and indicating he didn't think they carried their weight in that match.

Nevertheless, it is Lance Trueman who is actually the stand-out performer here, his all-round game being more than Notorious can handle. In particular he comes off the top rope with a sweet moonsault that wipes out both opponents just as a double team was starting to unfold on Franklin. From there, Franklin is able to throw Barrera out of the ring, land a DDT on Rivera and get the tag to Trueman, who hits a picture perfect Coast-liner to pick up the victory.

Winners: Going Coastal (D+)

ETytxjZ.jpg8W4HuZ5.jpgCqRq3Bd.jpg

We cut backstage to the locker room, and find Jonnie Perez still bubbling with joy after his successful Coastal Zone Xtreme title defence earlier in the evening, and he's laughing along with Jackpot Jordan, with both men having the Coastal Zone Tag Championship belts slung over there shoulders. Jake Idol walks in with a smile.

“Hey guys! How's it going? Did you get your win, Jonnie?”

“Yeah, all's good, man,” Perez replies. “What did the Doc say about your Hernia?”

“Ah, he reckons another two or three weeks and I might be ready to go.”

“That's great, man.”

“Yeah, bro,” Jordan puts in. “It'll be good to have you back. Top work on Monday, but y'know I miss teaming with ya man.”

“Well it'll all be fine then,” Idol replies. “Just need the two of you to keep that title belt for me until I'm ready to help defend it, right?”

“Absolutely!” Jordan beams, not noticing Perez's slight annoyance. “We'll be an unstoppable force when you're fit again!”

The camera cuts away again as the camaraderie continues, though it seems now that Perez's cheerfulness is rather more forced now. (D)

Greg Black (w/Willow) vs. Super Ninja

Neither of these two came out of CZCW Uprising with a victory, but Black will have been more satisfied with his performance, having gotten Al Coleman to tap even if the referee wasn't watching at the time. Black's not really on his best game today, though, and it shows in his performance. Perhaps he expects interference.

As he has recently, Black does a good job as the emotionless wrestling machine that Coleman just wishes he were, and despite Ninja's lengthy overseas experience, Black is not without a trick or two of his own, with SWF tag title reigns under his belt in the not-too-distant past. Ninja has retained much of his quickness though, despite his advancing age, and puts Black under a lot of pressure with quick-fire strikes that force him backwards.

M31wwgr.jpg

And it's whilst he's backed up against the ropes that Black suddenly becomes aware of the presence of Al Coleman at ringside. Willow heads around the ring to try and forestall any interference, but this only adds to the suite of problems for Black's concentration, and as he looks over to try and warn Willow off, he doesn't see the precision Ninja Strike come from a three-quarters angle, and before he know it, he's down for a three count, though it's still possible he might have kicked out had Ninja not been using the ropes for leverage.

Winner: Super Ninja (C-)

Overall Show Grade: D+

Author's Notes

WilburTrey and ink625 pulled 2/3 on this show, with BHK1978, Spirophore and Theheel managing 1/3.

Everyone picked Going Coastal to go over Notorious (who just don't have a tag team lower ranked than them at the moment, unless I pair jobbers together - something to fix in the longer term) but Perez's retention of the Xtreme belt flummoxed everyone. As you can see, there's more Jonnie P coming up...

<p>You know I was going to pick Jonnie Perez but at the last minute I thought Storm was higher up on the roster so I decided against it. I should have went with my gut.</p><p> </p><p>

Also, every single time I play CZCW the first thing I do is give Jonnie the Xtreme Championship. Nice to see I am not the only one to do so.</p>

CZCW Tonight!

Saturday 13th March

Preview

Welcome to another edition of CZCW Tonight, now in a regular slot on Saturday nights for your entertainment.

On tap tonight we have a bit of a mix and match – singles wrestlers taking part in tag action, and regular tag wrestlers looking to make their mark as singles competitors, so who knows how things will turn out!

Kicking things off will be a bout between Flash Sparrow's American Flash and Miguel Rivera of Notorious. Apparently Notorious have challenged Flash Sparrow to a tag match-up down the road, and CZCW Management has decreed that they'll measure up against one another in singles contests first.

Also on the show, El Jaguar will be looking for revenge against one half of the Coastal Zone Tag Champions Jackpot Jordan. Jordan and new partner Jonnie Perez won the titles at CZCW Uprising in somewhat dubious circumstances with the involvement of the (supposedly) injured Jake Idol, and Jaguar will want to redress the balance.

Teaming up in the main event will be seven time Coastal Zone Champion Fox Mask and the ever-energetic Dave Wallace. They’ll be taking on the youthful combination of Chet Chavez and former Coastal Zone Xtreme Champion Waylon Walls.

Card for predictions:

<strong>American Flash v. Miguel Rivera</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

Two tag specialists duking it out here in singles action, in what Peter Michaels tells us is a prelude to the two teams meeting at Spring Break Bash, with their tag partners facing off in a couple of weeks time. Regardless of their regular roles, these two seem to have a natural understanding of each other in the ring, which elevates the enjoyment level just that little bit. Rivera looks good here, and is able to control Flash on the ground and with some nasty looking strikes that keep him off-balance, and Flash has to start resorting to some rarely seen underhanded tactics to get himself back in the match. A carefully disguised low blow turns the tide, and Flash slams Rivera down with a quick German Suplex, then covers for the three, pulling the tights for good measure to ensure that Rivera can't escape the pin.</p><p> </p><p>

<span style="color:#000080;">Winner: American Flash (D)</span></p><p> </p><p>

Flash is quickly out of the ring on hearing the bell, and up the ramp, whilst Rivera glares a hole through him and complains to the referee about the finish.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="OKvFwS8.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/OKvFwS8.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><p> </p><p> </p><p>

And speaking of controversial finishes, we go backstage to find Wild Cats reviewing footage of their Coastal Zone Tag Championship defeat to Jackpot Jordan and Jonnie Perez at CZCW Uprising recently. Pee-wee Germaine is with them, and can now clearly see the beatdown by Jake Idol whilst the referee is down.</p><p> </p><p>

Germaine agrees with Tigre and El Jaguar that they shouldn't have lost the titles like that, and agrees to support their case to CZCW Management, but that's all he can do. <span style="color:#000080;">(E-)</span></p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="OKvFwS8.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/OKvFwS8.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

Meanwhile, outside in the corridor backstage, Al Coleman and Britney Hollywood are walking when they turn the corner and almost collide with Greg Black and Willow, who are coming in the opposite direction. Things are tense for a few moments as a lengthy stare-down ensues between the two men (and between the two women), but the moment passes as other wrestlers and backstage staff start to head in the same direction, and the two couples turn away from one another and continue on their separate ways without any further violence. <span style="color:#000080;">(D-)</span></p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="OKvFwS8.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/OKvFwS8.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Jackpot Jordan v. El Jaguar</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

Another case of tag wrestlers facing off in singles competition, and Cliff Anderson informs us as the match is about to start that CZCW Management have agreed that Wild Cats can have a Tag Championship re-match with Jordan and Jonnie Perez at CZCW Spring Break Bash... but only if El Jaguar can beat Jordan here, so the stakes for this particular contest have just ramped up a notch.</p><p> </p><p>

Jordan does his best to make Jaguar work for his redemption though – three times he has the masked wrestler down for a long two count, once from a really heavy springboard leg-drop across Jaguar's throat – but without being able to put him away, and that lack of ruthlessness costs him when it comes down to it. Jaguar gets a flash bulldog into the turnbuckle and follows it up with a flying cross-body to the dazed Jordan, then lifts his opponent and hits his bridging Jaguar Suplex for the three count that gives Wild Cats their re-match opportunity.</p><p> </p><p>

<span style="color:#000080;">Winner: El Jaguar (D+)</span></p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="OKvFwS8.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/OKvFwS8.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><p> </p><p> </p><p>

<img alt="UTmpDDF.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/UTmpDDF.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

Backstage again, and time for our customary regular words from Coastal Zone Champion Champagne Lover.</p><p> </p><p>

“Frankie, my friend, it seems that you have connections in high places, doesn't it, to get our shows moved to a day that suits you.</p><p> </p><p>

“And alongside another shot at the greatest wrestler in the world, you must think you are a lucky man... A title shot... A regular pay check... things really are looking up for you aren't they?</p><p> </p><p>

“But you should savour the moment, Frankie. This is as good as it gets for you. Just because you get a shot at the title doesn't mean you get to win it. After all, you would have to defeat me, Champagne Lover, in order to achieve that. And that will never happen.</p><p> </p><p>

“But come, do your best. Help me show my legions of fans exactly why I describe myself as the greatest wrestler in the world. Let them see for themselves how much I outclass you. How much this title is deservedly mine as I bring to America the greatest that Mexico has to offer, and take over American wrestling just like I did at home.</p><p> </p><p>

“Come, and become another notch in my belt, so to speak, as I take yet another step towards the recognition and fame that I truly deserve.</p><p> </p><p>

“Yes, Frankie – come and try to take the Coastal Zone Championship. Cement my legacy as the best. And yours as merely one of many who may be able to claim second best,” <span style="color:#000080;">(C+)</span></p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="OKvFwS8.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/OKvFwS8.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><p> </p><p>

</p><p><strong>

Dave Wallace & Fox Mask v. Waylon Walls & Chet Chavez</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

Another decent match, and at the sort of level that CZCW has started to consider as a bare minimum of quality for a main event, but it's one of those cases where the result is never even slightly in doubt. Walls and Chavez haven't earned themselves much of a following yet, and despite the efforts they put in they're distinctly outclassed by their opponents tonight.</p><p> </p><p>

It breaks down into two distinct types of bout: when Wallace or Walls are in the ring it's very much a fist fight, with both men relying on strikes to make their mark. A neat Thesz Press sees Walls underneath a barrage of fists for a while as Wallace makes the most of a heavy top position. When Fox Mask and Chavez are in together, though, it's a lot more of a high-flying spectacle. Suplexes and other throws from Fox Mask seem to be the order of the evening, and it's his regular finisher, the flying Fox Hunter, that eventually sees the end of Chavez, after the younger man misses badly on an attempt at a 450 splash. Somehow, it's the experienced masked wrestler that seems to improve each time he gets into the ring, rather than his younger, more malleable compatriots.</p><p> </p><p>

<span style="color:#000080;">Winners: Dave Wallace and Fox Mask (D+)</span></p><p> </p><p>

<span style="color:#000080;">Overall Show Grade: D+</span></p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

<span style="text-decoration:underline;">Author's Notes</span></p><p> </p><p>

So a full house of three correct predictions from WilburTrey. Two from Three from all other contestants - a record six entries for this show! Thanks for your ongoing interest, everyone.</p><p> </p><p>

I suspect that if I'd made the stipulation about the tag titles in the preview more of you would have picked Jaguar to beat Jordan (as of course why have the stipulation otherwise) but we had to have the meeting between the dethroned champs and the referee first <img alt=":)" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/smile.png.142cfa0a1cd2925c0463c1d00f499df2.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> That's my story and I'm sticking to it <img alt=":)" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/smile.png.142cfa0a1cd2925c0463c1d00f499df2.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p>

CZCW Tonight!

IPxb04q.jpgSFoA0Jd.png?1RqqAgsA.jpg

Greg Black v. Fernandes Franklin

Black comes out here very much in earnest, not looking to play to the crowd or be focused on anything at all except his match, whereas Franklin is very much the opposite: he revels in the combination of boos and cheers that he gets and plays up to them massively.

Every time Franklin breaks out a flash move on Black though, and plays to the crowd, Black comes back at him with something equally exciting, yet keeps his calmness about him, as though his only aim is to one-up everything that Franklin can do. Fortunately for Black, it's well within his wide-ranging skill set, as well, which means that his moves come off just as crisp as his opponent's and with equal, if not greater impact. It makes for a particularly intriguing match.

Franklin gets more and more frustrated at Black's continual ability to replicate or improve on each move he makes, and as he tires he is forced into delving into the less legal elements of his repertoire. An attempted thumb to the eye is caught by Black and a fluent wrist lock to hammerlock takedown leaves Franklin in trouble in a painful-looking arm wrench hold. Black tenaciously holds onto the arm, and despite his attempts, Franklin can't seem to worm his way out of the hold. He thinks he's found a way for a moment or two, but unfortunately it leaves him flat on his back with shoulders down, and he doesn't realise that Matthew White has counted three until it's too late.

Winner: Greg Black ©

We cut to a locker room backstage, where Fox Mask is giving Bullseye tips on the sorts of ways that he can spot moves that opponents are about to use. Bullseye is only partially paying attention, which annoys the veteran masked luchadore. (D+)

Brothers Perez (Frankie Perez & Jonnie Perez) v. Al Coleman & Simon Waves

Despite being brothers, Frankie and Jonnie haven't teamed up very often in CZCW, with Jonnie not really being considered up to his brother's level, but this is the type of scenario where they have done so – against a similar veteran/inexperienced wrestler pairing. Jonnie seems to be revitalised by his recent regular work though, and is doing his best here to match up to his brother, keen to take on the more experienced Coleman whenever possible.

Waves, on the other hand, is of less use to Coleman, and is frequently the man who is getting the worst end of beatings from the Brothers Perez. He and Coleman appear to have no rhythm at all as tag partners, and Waves is seemingly unable to get tags when he needs them, or get his timing right with Coleman when they get a rare double-teaming chance.

Waves is down in a neutral corner and getting a mud hole stomped into him by Jonnie when we get the real impact of the match – whilst Pee-wee Germaine is keeping a close eye on the action in that corner, and with Britney trying her best to get her team a break from the ref, Champagne Lover sneaks down the aisle and pulls Frankie off the apron hard, laying into him with a couple of right hands and then a Lover Stunner. Jonnie's attention is captured by the action, and he goes over to see what's happening, with neither man visible, and this gives Waves the moment he needs to get across to tag Coleman.

Coleman is in quickly and hits Jonnie hard from behind, putting him down whilst he is distracted, and a Lionsault later, Germaine is in position to make the three count, whilst Lover is back off up the aisle whilst the referee is fully occupied.

Winners: Al Coleman & Simon Waves (D+)

As Jonnie checks up on his brother, we cut backstage, where Miguel Rivera and Carlos Barrera have cornered American Flash in a corridor, and after some brief comments about his cheating to take the win over Rivera last Saturday, they start laying into him with kicks and punches.

Matt Sparrow comes charging into the fray to assist his tag partner, but it is already too late, and Flash is down and out, leaving Notorious both free to concentrate on Sparrow, and he soon meets the same fate as Flash, with Rivera hitting Sparrow's own Sparrow Droppings finisher on him to add insult to injury, leaving both lying flat out. A group of staff come into view to break it up, but they are far too late to this party to make any difference. (E)

Peter Michaels and The Guru briefly discuss the beat-down, but then segue into an announcement that has come from CZCW Management that, unlike Notorious, two tag teams that are considered to be in good standing with management have been selected to fight at CZCW Spring Break Bash for the honour of being the Number 1 contenders to the Coastal Zone Tag Team Champions, with the Tag Champions taking on the winners at Welcome to the Coastal Zone at the start of May.

The teams involved will be The American Cobras and Going Coastal, once again pitting Storm Spillane and Lance Trueman against one another. (E+)

Lance Trueman v. Dave Wallace

And talk of a potential future Tag Title bout brings us neatly to Lance Trueman, with the commentators doubting that he and Spillane have really fully settled their differences. Trueman looks energised here, perhaps by that announcement, and surprisingly looks the better wrestler of the two tonight.

Wallace puts in a good enough shift, to be fair to him, it's perhaps just that he hasn't been featured all that much lately, so the fans don't have quite the same level of interest in him, and therefore he is missing that spark that normally sees him as one of the best in showing exactly how hard a punch or a flip or a throw is supposed to hurt him.

It is, however, Wallace that pulls it out at the last. With Trueman mis-timing a moonsault and landing awkwardly on an ankle as he tried to pull out seeing that Wallace wasn't in position to take the hit, he is easy prey for a dragon-screw leg whip that wrenches the ankle even further and, although you might have thought that would be the key moment to transition to an ankle lock, Wallace instead goes to the top turnbuckle and lands the Air Attack Ace and picks up the victory that way instead.

Winner: Dave Wallace (D+)

As the show goes off air, Peter Michaels wonders at the fact that the four men who were warned to be on their best behaviour were actually up to it for once!

Overall Show Grade: D+

Author's Notes

Just one out of three for all four sets of predictions this time - nobody foresaw Brothers Perez eating a loss, and only WilburTrey picked Wallace to win. Maybe it wasn't quite as predictable as even I thought it was going to be!

Next up - thoughts on decisions about new signings...

<p><strong><span style="text-decoration:underline;">Thursday 25th March</span></strong></p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="UTmpDDF.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/UTmpDDF.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

With finances more stable now, and the feeling around CZCW a positive one in light of the more recent reports about our shows, it has come time to add wrestlers of good quality to our team.</p><p> </p><p>

Two in particular have been signed to début in the next week or so at our shows who have lots of experience and can both do the high flying and also are good basic wrestlers. One is an old hand with lots of experience as a tag team wrestler in TCW, but who never really made a breakthrough there. The other... is a potential problem.</p><p> </p><p>

When looking at the work that this wrestler has done, it is easy to see that he would be a good addition to the roster. His skills fit in neatly with those elsewhere and he has a good record teaming alongside one of our upper-level guys. The problem that we have is that he has worked in CZCW before, and he proved to be unreliable. I am told that he missed shows, or turned up high on drugs and in no fit state to work.</p><p> </p><p>

If he has, like he has suggested in our conversations, reformed himself as a character, then he would be a valuable member of the company. If he has not, however, and we find out some weeks down the line then, possibly, he becomes a big problem. Can we afford to put him in our main events with the possibility of him winning titles, when he may not turn up?</p><p> </p><p>

With the format of our contracts it is not that we would be on the hook for a big financial loss as a result of him being irresponsible in this way, the issue is that we set the bar at a certain level; we expect reasonable behaviour from our wrestlers; and we reward those who do a good job. With the undoubted skills that this wrestler brings, it would be very easy to set him at the top of the card, hand him the championship and see the wonderful matches that he puts on, but, if we cannot rely on him to perform, to deliver consistently, to be there when he is needed, that backing is foolhardy – he will be seen as having been rewarded for poor behaviour, which is not something that we wish to encourage.</p><p> </p><p>

In the end, we have made a decision, and, like with wrestlers who may choose to leave the company for a better offer, a bigger pay day somewhere else, we have to take a certain amount of risk in the wrestlers we sign that have potential red flags about their histories or personalities. We don't have the financial or reputational stature to be able to pick and choose the best out there, we can only pick and choose from those who are prepared to work at our level.</p>

CZCW Tonight!

Saturday 27th March

Preview

Hello all! With CZCW Spring Break Bash just around the corner, we come to our final CZCW Tonight before the big event.

Following last week's beat down by Notorious of Flash Sparrow, who we already know will be taking on one another on the big stage next Monday, tonight sees Matt Sparrow taking on Carlos Barrera, no doubt hoping to get in some licks of his own in a one-on-one situation before the two teams meet.

The busy Jonnie Perez will be in action once again, as his Coastal Zone Xtreme title will be on the line against one half of Wild Cats, Tigre. Tigre's regular tag partner El Jaguar will also be in action, but tonight his tag partner will be the veteran Super Ninja, and they will be taking on the formidable partnership of Fox Mask and the Coastal Zone Champion Champagne Lover.

We've also managed to arrange for Al Coleman, Britney Hollywood, Greg Black and Willow to come together in one room with no fighting allowed, as they decide exactly how they will resolve their feud on Monday. I can't wait to see that one will turn out! Join us at CZCW Tonight! to find out for yourself!

Card for predictions:
