<strong>CZCW Tonight!</strong></p><p><strong> </strong></p><p><strong>

Saturday 27th March</strong></p><p> </p><p>

Palo Alto, California</p><p> </p><p>

Attendance: 3500</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

<img alt="BSpeCRC.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/BSpeCRC.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="SFoA0Jd.png?1" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/SFoA0Jd.png?1" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="h38yars.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/h38yars.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Matt Sparrow v. Carlos Berrera</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

Following last week's attack by Notorious on Flash Sparrow, this looks like a gilt-edged opportunity for Matt Sparrow to gain some measure of revenge ahead of Monday's tag match between the two teams, and largely, this is how it plays out, with the more experiences Sparrow able to handle pretty much everything that Barrera throws at him.</p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="RsqIdxy.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/RsqIdxy.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

What he can't handle, though, is the mid-fight appearance of Miguel Rivera, who stalks around the cage looking for a chance to get involved. Referee Matthew White keeps a close eye on him, though, and his opportunities seem very limited. Sparrow looks to have things all sown up when he follows up a neat Irish-whip-snap powerslam-elbow drop sequence with the Sparrow Hawk from the top rope, but Rivera is quickly into the ring to break up the three-count, and White has no choice but to throw the match out.</p><p> </p><p>

<span style="color:#000080;">Winner: Matt Sparrow (by DQ) (D)</span></p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

Things aren't over and done with though, as with Sparrow down and Rivera and Barrera both in the ring, the Notorious duo go to work on the ostensible winner, laying him out with a couple of hard double clotheslines.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="IbNki7T.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/IbNki7T.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

A more hefty beat-down is prevented by the arrival of American Flash, charging down the aisle to assist his own tag partner, allowing Sparrow to roll out of the ring to safety. Flash picks his moment to hit Berrera and Rivera with a beautiful double drop-kick, and Notorious decide that now the odds have been evened, they've less interest in getting involved, and start to head to the back themselves <span style="color:#000080;">(D-)</span></p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><p>

<img alt="BSpeCRC.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/BSpeCRC.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

And apparently we're still not done with these four, as Sparrow has recovered somewhat and has grabbed a microphone from ringside.</p><p> </p><p>

“Hey, Rivera, Berrera!”</p><p> </p><p>

Notorious stop halfway back to the locker room and turn to see what Sparrow has to say.</p><p> </p><p>

“You boys wanna come back here and make something of this?</p><p> </p><p>

“I mean, a proper, fair fight instead of a two-on-one? I mean, I think you pu$$ies don't have the guts to come back and take us on with the terms even, do ya?”</p><p> </p><p>

Barrera looks ready to charge back down to the ring, but Rivera puts a hand on his shoulder and holds him back.</p><p> </p><p>

“Nah. Didn't think so,” Sparrow continues. “You boys can't even pick up a win without cheatin', so no surprises you won't face us like real men. I'll be surprised if you even show up Monday. I mean, Carlos, I had ya beat all ends up 'til old Miggy there got himself involved.”</p><p> </p><p>

Now Rivera is really having to hold his tag partner back, as Barrera really looks likes he wants go back down and have a fight.</p><p> </p><p>

“No? Well I guess we'll see how it goes down Monday, boys, but to be honest, you ain't even looked like picking up a win these last three months.”</p><p> </p><p>

By now, some of the road crew have made their way out and gotten themselves between Notorious and the ring, so Rivera has a little help in keeping his partner in check. Sparrow sees that there isn't going to be any further action right now, and throws the microphone down, gives American Flash a nod and a fist bump and they leave. <span style="color:#000080;">(E+)</span></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Coastal Zone Xtreme Championship</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<img alt="ETytxjZ.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/ETytxjZ.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="SFoA0Jd.png?1" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/SFoA0Jd.png?1" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="6AFoIhQ.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/6AFoIhQ.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Jonnie Perez © v. Tigre</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

Jonnie comes out here with a great deal of confidence, given his recent wins, and is proudly wearing the Coastal Zone Tag Championship strap as well as the Xtreme belt on the way to the ring. Tigre seems a little affronted by that, given the manner in which Perez won the former title from him and El Jaguar, and for once Tigre's style seems to reflect that anger, and his offense is much more heavily strike-based than would normally be the case, laying into Perez with some heavy kicks and forearms as though trying to take his frustrations out on the champ.</p><p> </p><p>

Perez weathers the early assault and deliberately gets the fight to the outside, allowing his own brawling style more leeway. When Tigre misses with a charge and only eats ring stairs, Perez is quick to pounce with a number of chair shots to the masked wrestler's back that leaving his sprawling on the ringside matting. Oddly, Perez opts to capitalise on this by locking in his brother's P-clutch submission, no doubt working the back even harder, yet Tigre really toughs it out, and perhaps the manoeuvre just isn't as effective in Jonnie's hands.</p><p> </p><p>

Twelve minutes in, though, Perez makes a key error as fatigue starts to become a factor. Going for a big top turnbuckle moonsault, he doesn't see that Tigre has already recovered and is ready for him, and as he come down it is straight into the raised knees that the Wild Cat has waiting for him, and he's in all sorts of trouble. A quick bridging Tigre Suplex later, and the three count is administered by Pee-wee Germaine, leaving us with a new Xtreme Champion, and a bewildered-looking Jonnie Perez as Tigre is handed the belt.</p><p> </p><p>

<span style="color:#000080;">Winner: Tigre (D+)</span></p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="OKvFwS8.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/OKvFwS8.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="qHzYKAo.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/qHzYKAo.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="IPxb04q.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/IPxb04q.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="vQHAdaq.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/vQHAdaq.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="M31wwgr.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/M31wwgr.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="ZpZFv07.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/ZpZFv07.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

Backstage, and we can see that Cliff Anderson has left the commentary booth and is sat around a table with Greg Black, Al Coleman, Willow and Britney Hollywood.</p><p> </p><p>

“Look, we've tried this with both of you ringside,” Anderson says to the two managers, “ and it's just left us with more questions, so how are we going to resolve this?”</p><p> </p><p>

The two ladies look at each other with scarcely-disguised contempt, then look at their respective clients. With no obvious answer, they turn back to Anderson and shrug.</p><p> </p><p>

“Fine. Well if you can't resolve it yourselves, we'll do this my way and we'll have an end to things.</p><p> </p><p>

“Greg, Al, the two of you will meet again on Monday at Spring Break Bash, and we'll make sure that neither of your managers get involved – we'll have you locked in a cage to resolve things. No disqualifications, no count outs, only pinfalls and submissions. Understand?”</p><p> </p><p>

Both men nod.</p><p> </p><p>

“Right – ladies, I've already had this contract drawn up. Sign it.”</p><p> </p><p>

He hands a clipboard to each in turn.</p><p> </p><p>

Willow looks annoyed at something.</p><p> </p><p>

“It says here that if either manager gets involved then their client is suspended without pay for three months!”</p><p> </p><p>

“That's right,” Anderson replies. “I've seen what happens in these matches. Get over it.”</p><p> </p><p>

“And what about climbing over the top?” Coleman asks.</p><p> </p><p>

“Same result,” Anderson says. “This is going to be decided inside the cage.”</p><p> </p><p>

Willow shoots Coleman an ugly look, but signs the contract nonetheless, and Britney does likewise.</p><p> </p><p>

Anderson breathes a sigh of relief.</p><p> </p><p>

“Fine. Maybe we can get back to some semblance of normality,” he says to himself quietly, as the wrestlers and their managers leave. <span style="color:#000080;">(D)</span></p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Champagne Lover & Fox Mask v. Super Ninja & El Jaguar</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

Despite the tag specialist El Jaguar being rather off his game here, this is a pretty good match. Recent Coastal Zone challenger Super Ninja goes out of his way to show off some of the offense that gave the Champion so much trouble earlier this month, and all four men seem to be improving match by match.</p><p> </p><p>

Lover is the real star here, as should be expected. He is marvellously disdainful at the thought of tagging out to his partner, right up until the moment when he's in real difficulty, having eaten a big DDT from Ninja, at which point he's almost begging Fox Mask for the tag. Despite his partner's attitude, Fox Mask accedes to being brought into the match, and gets on a bit of a tear himself, the only thing preventing an excellent win after a savage Fox Hunter to Jaguar is the proximity of the ropes, with Jaguar just able to reach a foot out to get Matthew White to break the count.</p><p> </p><p>

Nevertheless, it is Fox Mask who does all the work to get what becomes the vital pin – a spinebuster and an elbow drop setting up for another Fox Hunter, this time on Super Ninja, but he makes the mistake of being too close to his own corner and, ever the opportunist, Champagne Lover makes a quick blind tag, pulls Ninja to his feet for a Lover Stunner, just to make absolutely certain, and covers for the academic count.</p><p> </p><p>

<span style="color:#000080;">Winner: Champagne Lover & Fox Mask ©</span></p><p> </p><p>

Fox Mask looks rather disgruntled, but allows White to raise his hand in victory, before shrugging off a handshake offer from Champagne Lover as the show closes.</p><p> </p><p>

<span style="color:#000080;">Overall Show Rating: (C-)</span></p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

<span style="text-decoration:underline;">Author's notes</span></p><p> </p><p>

Thanks very much, once again, for all the predictions. Congratulations on a full three out of three to WilburTrey. Two out of three for Spirophore and BHK1978, and one out of three for michgcs, ink625 and Theheel. Full preview for Spring Break Bash coming up next (tomorrow, all being well).</p>

Spring Break Bash is upon us, and despite it being April Fool's Day, it's no fool who'll come down and see the excellent show we've got for you this evening.</p><p> </p><p> We're expecting to kick things off with tag action, as Flash Sparrow take on Notorious in what has become a heated rivalry over the past month. Matt Sparrow is sure that the Latino pairing are not good enough for CZCW, and expects to win if things remain a fair contest throughout. Rivera and Barrera aren't the type to take that lying down, though, so we can expect this one to be fractious.</p><p> </p><p> With their feud seemingly now behind them, Lance Trueman and Storm Spillane return to full time tag action with a shot at the Coastal Zone Tag Championships on the line for them and their respective partners, Fernandes Franklin and Jimmy Marvel with a win tonight. Whichever team come out on top will be a strong contender for the Tag Champs next time out, so it's unlikely that this will be anything other than a close thing.</p><p> </p><p> CZCW Management have revealed that Cliff Anderson will be taking on a more hands-on role in-show, in settling some of the feuds and making decisions that we might otherwise have to wait for the board to rule on. Between this and his commentating he looks to have his hands full, but we saw his first notable input last week, as he signed Greg Black and Al Coleman to compete in a Cage Match tonight, in order to keep their managers away from the action. Neither Willow nor Britney Hollywood looked particularly happy at the decision, and the real dispute was between Coleman and Willow, so whether this actually resolves anything, we'll have to wait and see! Either way it gives us an excellent match to look forward to this evening!</p><p> </p><p> The Coastal Zone Tag Championships will be next up, with Wild Cats sensibly being awarded a re-match following last month's disputed decision. Once again, Jonnie Perez will team up with Jackpot Jordan as the champion team, though it looks as though Jordan's regular tag partner Jake Idol will again be on hand to provide support of some nature... though it's likely to be only for his regular tag partner and not for Perez!</p><p> </p><p> This month's four-way to decide a number one contender for the Coastal Zone Championship only has three participants at the moment, but we're advised that the fourth is a new signing yet to début in CZCW, and who will be getting their shot as recognition for their history in CZCW. Whomever they might be, they'll be facing off against recent title challenger Super Ninja, the seven-time Champion Fox Mask and veteran Dave Wallace; a stern challenge for any newcomer.</p><p> </p><p> And finally we come to the Coastal Zone Championship itself. Reigning Champion Champagne Lover has been dismissive of all his challengers, but seems to have saved up a special level of disdain for his latest foe, Frankie Perez. Lover's barbs about Perez's availability were among the reasons for CZCW Management's decision to move our weekly shows to a Saturday, so they will certainly be hoping that Perez repays their faith by putting on an exceptional show tonight.</p><p> </p><p> There's bound to be more, too, so come on down and make sure you don't miss out!</p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><p> Card for predictions:</p><p> </p><p> Flash Sparrow vs. Notorious</p><p> </p><p> Going Coastal vs. The American Cobras</p><p> </p><p> Cage Match: Greg Black vs. Al Coleman</p><p> </p><p> Coastal Zone Tag Championship:</p><p> Jackpot Jordan/Jonnie Perez © vs. Wild Cats</p><p> </p><p> #1 Contendership Four-way:</p><p> Super Ninja vs. Fox Mask vs. Dave Wallace vs. ???</p><p> </p><p> Coastal Zone Championship:</p><p> Champagne Lover © vs. Frankie Perez</p>

Flash Sparrow (American Flash/Matt Sparrow) v. Notorious (Miguel Rivera/Carlos Barrera)

No surprise here that Notorious come out fast and hard, given Sparrow's taunting of them on Saturday. Keen though they are to make an impression and prove Sparrow wrong, you still get the impression that they are fighting rather like the underdogs they truly are, even if their natural disposition isn't really suited to it.

They do seem to be learning from this particular match-up though, and there are a couple of times where American Flash's expected moves are well scouted and countered, leaving Notorious in a more dominant position. It helps that Flash does seem a little tentative, but even so he hits a nasty Flash Bang on Barrera that gets a long two count, and that's where things seem to change up a a gear, as Flash Sparrow really start to get into their stride.

As the more established pair start to take control, Sparrow notably scoring with a picture perfect missile drop-kick as he is tagged in, Notorious become more and more desperate. Rivera twice has to kick out of covers that look like they might end the bout, and Barrera becomes more and more agitated on the apron. He come in to break up a third pinfall attempt and things break down into a brawl, spilling out to ringside with all four wrestlers engaged.

Matthew White lets it roll, and eventually we get two men back in the ring. Sparrow looks for a butterfly suplex on Rivera, but this only obscures White's view of the low blow that Rivera lands, and the resulting roll-up is aided by some serious leverage on the ropes too keep the struggling Sparrow down for the full three count.

Winners: Notorious (D)

Going Coastal (Lance Trueman/Fernandes Franklin) v. The American Cobras (Jimmy Marvel/Storm Spillane)

Two teams that have plenty of experience and plenty of knowledge of each other, and it makes for a good bout. The recent issues between Spillane and Trueman appear forgotten, although there's no handshake before things kick off.

In fact the only reason why this isn't much better is the seeming lack of animosity. The crowd don't quite seem to get into it quite as much as other recent contests despite the wrestling itself being a notch above what they've delivered in the past. It's actually very slick and smooth, but without the sort of bite that was present in the opener.

Nevertheless, some of the best spots come from Jimmy Marvel, who appears to have upped his technical game, and busts out some neat transitions and a new submission hold that looks like a variant on an ankle lock. Trueman and Spillane show off some of the high-spots of their recent feud that culminate in marvel having to come on to break up the pinfall when Trueman hits a Coast-to-Coast bulldog on Spillane that would have ended things.

And indeed it's Trueman in the ring at the death, after Franklin is forced to tag out after an extended period of dominance from Spillane that ended in a big Stinger Splash in the Going Coastal Corner. Trueman looks to hit a running bulldog as he comes in, but is pushed off at the last moment and goes crotch-first into the turnbuckle. Spillane tags out in turn, and as Trueman recovers himself, he can only walk straight into Marvel's Cobra Strike, and that's enough to keep him down.

Cage Match

IPxb04q.jpgSFoA0Jd.png?1M31wwgr.jpg

Greg Black v. Al Coleman

Both managers accompany their charges down to the ring, though they are firmly escorted away by CZCW officials before the match can get under way. The cage is lowered into place around the ring, and Matthew White gets things started.

The first thing to note is that the lack of chemistry between the two wrestlers that has been evident from time to time over the last month doesn't appear to have abated here, and we get a number of odd-looking spots as a result, where one or other of the protagonists mistimes a particular spot. Despite that it's a decent enough contest, with the crowd rather more invested again here, though perhaps more at Coleman's misogynistic behaviour than anything Black does.

It's very much a technical wrestling showcase from these two. Both claim to be “wrestling machines” from time to time, and it's clear that it is definitely more their forte than the high-flying, and the cage itself doesn't get an awful lot of use other than to keep the managers away.

vQHAdaq.jpgZpZFv07.jpg

Or at least directly away from the action in-ring, at any rate, as it's no more than five minutes before both Willow and Britney have managed to get themselves back to cage-side – Willow coming through the crowd, and Britney charging down the aisle with a couple of backstage crew in hot pursuit. Cliff Anderson waves them off from the commentary booth, given that there is still a cage separating the managers from their clients.

And in the end, blissfully, neither manager gets involved enough to impact on the finish. Greg Black makes a costly error when coming off the top turnbuckle and landing awkwardly on an ankle, and Coleman concentrates his efforts on that ankle for the remainder of the bout, eventually locking in his Ankle Brace submission hold whilst grapevining Black's leg, and the former SWF star has no choice but to tap out.

Winner: Al Coleman (C-)

Coleman immediately calls for the cage to be raised, and jumps out of the ring into Britney's arms. They celebrate with the crowd madly and they dash of up the aisle joyfully, with Britney holding Coleman's arm aloft, whilst Willow checks on her man still on his back in the ring clutching at his ankle. Coastal Zone Tag Championship

Jackpot Jordan and Jonnie Perez © v. Wild Cats (Tigre/El Jaguar)

That Jordan and Perez were put together with so little chemistry between them remains a mystery, let alone how they then got to hold the Tag titles, but it's clear once again here that they aren't on the same page as tag team partners, and it spoils the contest for the fans, who seem rather disengaged from what is otherwise a decent affair. Both of the champs appear to be learning new things as they go a long here, but it seems that its more from their opponents that from each other.

Wild Cats high-flying antics are definitely the highlights in this, with El Jaguar pulling off a lovely 450 Splash that only fails to get a three count as a result of Jordan coming in to haul the masked luchadore off Perez to break it up, and Tigre puts together a smooth DDT-countered into a head-scissors takedown on Jordan that is as neat as any seen on CZCW.

It turns out not to be enough though. With half an eye on the potential for interference from Jake Idol (who never materialises at ring-side), Wild Cats are never fully able to address their attention to finishing off the champs, and Jonnie Perez seals things with his Triple jump Tornado DDT to retain the belts, after a discrete low blow.

Winners: Jackpot Jordan and Jonnie Perez (D+)

As the Coastal Zone Tag Champions receive their belts from the referee, we cut backstage to a shot of Jake Idol watching the action on a monitor. He looks as miserable as sin as he sees his former tag partner retaining the straps with a different partner. (E)

Ahead of the Four-way to determine the next Number One contender for the Coastal Zone Championship, Cliff Anderson gets up from the announce booth and steps into the ring with a microphone.

“As you all know, we've a new signing who is debuting tonight in this Number One contender's match.

“You'll all know him very well from his previous stint in CZCW, where he was a multi-time Coastal Zone Tag Champion, and we expect him to be a great addition to the roster.

“So without further ado, please welcome...”

4LdC9PO.jpg

“Remmy Skye!”

The crowd are pretty pumped for the return of Skye, who was fairly popular in his previous run in California. He comes out and is still in his old surfer-style gear, and schmoozes his way down to the ring clasping hands with selected fans on his way. (D+)

#1 Contendership Bout

Super Ninja v Fox Mask v Dave Wallace v Remmy Skye

Fox Mask looks pretty pleased to see his former tag partner, and gives him a cautiously positive welcome, but Dave Wallace looks more than disgruntled. He looks pretty narked off at the newest roster member, in fact, and keeps giving Skye venomous looks.

The sad thing about this match is that as decent as it was, it looked like at least two of the participants had more to give, but were not on their game at all. There's a real sense of uncertainty between several of the wrestlers as well, and it seems to be expressed best by Dave Wallace, who reverts slightly to type here, becoming something of a ragdoll for the others to toss around. Ninja and Fox Mask have a good sequence together that leads to a close fall being interrupted by Skye at the last minute, and even Wallace has his moment, a cradle piledriver on Ninja looking like it would be the key moment, only for Fox Mask to elbow drop onto the pair of them to break up the count.

Skye's shining moment comes as Wallace is about to piledrive Fox Mask as well, some minutes later, and he comes off the top turnbuckle with a missile drop-kick that prevents Wallace completing the move, then bounces back to his feet and sends Wallace out of the ring with a massive lariat.

In the meantime, Fox Mask and Super Ninja are paired up in mid-ring, and Mask hits his Fox Hunter to score a pinfall that isn't broken up at all.

Winner: Fox Mask (C-)

hmvjBvS.jpg4LdC9PO.jpg

With the match over and the winner celebrating, there is still a ruckus going on at ringside.

Dave Wallace has apparently snapped and is giving Remmy Skye a serious beating, ramming his head into the ring-post, the announce booth and then hitting a spinebuster that sees Skye's head bouncing back off the floor. He lays in several hard boots, and only stops the beat-down when he is pulled away by several officials. (D)

Backstage, and the camera has found Coastal Zone Champion Champagne Lover ahead of his title defence against Frankie Perez. As usual, Lover has some words for his challenger.

“Ah, Frankie! Finally we go one-on-one and you get to experience the reality of facing the greatest wrestler in the world. I hope you find that it is everything that you dreamed of, as it is likely to be very short and very painful... for you, at any rate.

“Nothing I have seen from you causes me the slightest concern. What can you possibly bring to the ring that would be a threat to Champagne Lover? No, it is inevitable that I will triumph once again, though triumph is rather a grand word for what will be a typically low level of threat.

“Still, it is another stepping stone towards the recognition that I truly deserve. When they see you lying in my wake, perhaps one day people will say: 'Frankie Perez. I remember him. He once professed to think that he could be a challenge to the great Champagne Lover'. Perhaps you will have a place in history, Frankie. But it will only be as a footnote to the story of the man who rose to the utmost glory in professional wrestling!” (C+)

Champagne Lover (c ) v. Frankie Perez

A pretty darn good match here, and whatever Champagne Lover might say about his own abilities, he would be hard pressed to find anybody here tonight who disagreed with the view that Perez was indeed a threat.

As it turned out, he was more than a threat. He might not have the absolute levels of talent that Lover does, but he certainly has a skill-set that matches neatly with many in CZCW, and which has an edge of its own to it, with the stiff kicks and chops that he delivers. Lover felt the brunt of those in the early going, with Perez no doubt motivated by his taunts. Indeed, you could almost say that Perez's relative freshness was a surprise, given that he'd appeared on the WLW show at the weekend as well.

As the contest wore on Lover became seemingly disconcerted by the repeated submission attempts Perez tried to employ. Having bailed on two or three attempts at the P-Clutch, he reverted to a simple Figure-four, but couldn't get it locked in to best effect, and when he tried to use the ropes for leverage he was caught at it by Matthew White. Lover's own offense was smooth and crisp, and kept Perez on his toes, as the swift counters to the challenger's throws and holds meant it was a fast-paced affair.

Lover eventually resorted to making it more of a brawl, but that was where he eventually came undone. Missing a really big overhand right that looked like it would take Perez's head off, he was swung around into a back suplex that knocked the wind out of him, and was in no position to react when Perez hit his Perfect Parity, finally getting the pinfall.

Winner: Frankie Perez (C+)

OKvFwS8.jpg

UTmpDDF.jpg

Lover initially looked dazed at the result, but then rather angry, and as Perez was presented with the Championship belt, Lover took his knee out from behind and started laying in boots, eventfully dropping to the floor and pounding away with fists, until Matthew White and a couple of the road crew were able to pull him away. (D)

Overall Show Rating: (C+)

Author's notes

It seems like we get better results from our big monthly show, which is always a bonus, but C+ is pretty darn good for this stage of things, I think, and I'm pretty happy with how that turned out.

Frankie and Lover obviously aren't done yet (though Frankie has someone else to challenge for the title in the near future), and neither is the Jonnie Perez/Jackpot Jordan/Jake Idol triumvirate. Coleman and Black are done though, for now, which may disappoint those hoping to see Coleman get his come-uppance, though the Coleman/Willow issue will continue to resonate a little longer...

Theheel topped out the predictions at 3/6, though WilburTrey's extra point for correctly guessing the debutant to be Remmy Skye gives him 3/6 as well. BHK1978 scored 2/6 and ink625 1/6. Thanks very much everyone. It seems that Al Coleman's victory threw everyone, but I always felt that he had to win this one: he's the one with a stake in the argument, whereas Greg Black is just the proxy for Willow, regardless of whom is ostensibly acting badly here I don't think you give the win to the valet. As I said, this isn't completely dead yet though...

<strong>Notorious (Miguel Rivera/Carlos Barrera) v. Bullseye & Chet Chavez</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

Fox Mask is again at ringside to assist Bullseye tonight, but he isn't able to have much of an impact here, as the Latino duo roll through his protégé and partner within ten minutes. Barrera is particularly brutal tonight, really taking it to Bullseye, who seems happy to brawl it out despite the beating he receives, and it's he who eventually gets the pinfall, though it's Chavez who falls prey to a double team backbreaker that actually ends what isn't a great match.</p><p> </p><p>

<span style="color:#000080;">Winners: Notorious (D-)</span></p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

Miguel Rivera grabs a microphone straight after the match and has words for Flash Sparrow.</p><p> </p><p>

“Flash? Sparrow? See I know you boys gonna come down here and whine about how we cheated your asses out of the match on Monday, but frankly I don't give two ***** about that. You gotta learn that it don't matter how you win. And ya know what? That record book shows that we gotta win over you idiots, so suck it up brothers.” <span style="color:#000080;">(E+)</span></p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

Waylon Walls has made his way down to the ring, and is awaiting his to-be-named opponent, and familiar music hits, before cutting off after a couple of bars and changing to something not heard before.</p><p> </p><p>

Out from behind the curtain comes none other than former TCW All-action, Cruiserweight and Tag Team Champion Harry Allen, decked out in his old, familiar cowboy hat.</p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><p>

<img alt="81UVra1.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/81UVra1.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

He picks up a microphone and takes the hat off, sending it Frisbee-style out into the crowd. The cheers soon start to turn to jeers once they hear what he's got to say, though, regardless of his existing fan base.</p><p> </p><p>

“See, you can keep it, because I don't need the hat,” he begins with a sneer. “I don't need the cowboy outfit to show you what I'm made of. I don't need your cheers and I don't need your support.</p><p> </p><p>

“See, I'm better than every single one of you. I'm better than you down there in the ring, Waylon Walls. I'm better than all you out in the crowd here in La freakin' Jolla, California. I'm better than all the guys in the back.</p><p> </p><p>

“I'm better than CZCW. And I don't need to be here.</p><p> </p><p>

“I've spent my career in TCW – the real show. <em>Total</em> Championship Wrestling. Where wrestling actually looks like wrestling, not like flying freakin' monkeys. In TCW, it's a real challenge, every time you step foot in the ring there's an opponent worthy of respect, worth your time and effort. But this? This is nothing.</p><p> </p><p>

“So, if it's all right with you – and hell, even if it ain't – I'm just gonna come down there, whup some undeserving ass, and pick up another pay check, and demonstrate to you all that whatever you folks out here on the West Coast think, this ain't the big leagues.”</p><p> </p><p>

With that he's down to the ring and we have a match. <span style="color:#000080;">©</span></p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Waylon Walls v. Harry Allen</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

The truth of it is, Allen really is a much better wrestler than Walls, and he does an awful lot to showcase it here. You get the impression that he is improving even as he demonstrates his superiority. Walls' own style actually helps him do so, as he's more than willing to brawl with the newcomer, which only makes Allen's point even clearer. You have to imagine that there are much tougher challenges lying ahead for him though.</p><p> </p><p>

Allen punctuates his performance with some of the old favourites we've seen in TCW, including a neat Savate Kick and a Gunslinger's Revenge that would easily have gained him the three count, but he chooses to make his point by applying a submission hold – it looks like a variant on a Boston Crab – and Walls has no choice but to tap.</p><p> </p><p>

<span style="color:#000080;">Winner: Harry Allen (D+)</span></p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

We go backstage to the locker rooms, and join Jonnie Perez and Jake Idol in the middle of a rousting argument.</p><p> </p><p>

“I won the damn titles, and you ain't just stepping in to take over my title,” Perez is saying as we join them.</p><p> </p><p>

“Well you wouldn't have won jack if I hadn't been there,” Idol reminds him. “You're only subbing in for me while I was injured, and now that I'm fit again, Rich and Famous are the Coastal Zone tag champs, not Jonnie Perez, so you can damn well get used to it.”</p><p> </p><p>

“Yeah? And you're gonna make me, are you? Some chance, loser. You wanna hold the title, you've actually gotta win it yourself, not have someone else do the job for you.”</p><p> </p><p>

It looks like it's about to come to blows when Jackpot Jordan steps in. He does his best to calm both men down and suggests that he might be able to help them resolve their issues.</p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="8W4HuZ5.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/8W4HuZ5.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

“Look boys, I'll try and sort something out with management for you. You know how they listen when I wave a bit of the green underneath their noses. I don't want us fighting about it,” he says, and although Idol still looks mutinous, he doesn't look quite as ready to start launching fists as he did a few moments earlier. <span style="color:#000080;">(D)</span></p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

And we're back in the same position we were a short while ago, waiting for the introduction of someone new to CZCW.</p><p> </p><p>

New music hits – something of a variation on Soul Asylum's “Runaway Train”, and a good looking young blonde, familiar to anyone who has seen MAW over the last half dozen years, steps out.</p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><p>

“Well hell-lo California,” she says with a smile. “It's sure good to be seeing new faces in a new territory. You might know me from... somewhere else... but for the purposes of our entertainment over here on the West Coast, you can call me... 'Electric'.”</p><p> </p><p>

At the announce desk there's a muffled comment from The Guru to the extent of “she sure is!”.</p><p> </p><p>

“But anyway, you're all here for the wrestling, right? So let me introduce the duo who'll be stepping into the ring here in Coastal Zone as my clients:</p><p> </p><p>

“All the way from London, England, please welcome Leigh Benson and Ricky Hedges, also known as The Gallaher Brothers!”</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

The two young Brits come out to a nice round of applause and make their way down to the ring. The really knowledgeable among them look a bit excited to see the duo as Benson, at least, has something of a reputation back in his homeland. <span style="color:#000080;">(E)</span></p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Going Coastal (Lance Trueman/Fernandes Franklin) v The Gallaher Brothers (Leigh Benson/Ricky Hedges)</strong> </p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

The newcomers seem to have a much more ground-based mat wrestling style than is common among most of the CZCW roster, and they mesh quite neatly with both of Going Coastal who are not without a deal of skill in that area themselves, which leads to a nicely-paced game of hold and counter-hold that keeps the crowd entertained for a while.</p><p> </p><p>

It's when the high flying breaks out from Lance Trueman in particular that Benson and Hedges aren't able to keep pace with the more familiar pair. Trueman starts adding the more flashy moves from his arsenal after five or six minutes, and The Gallaher Brothers have to keep tagging out in order not to get overwhelmed. Franklin follows suit, and when a Coastliner strands Hedges in the Going Coastal corner a series of quick tags between Franklin and Trueman ensures that he is never able to get back to the sanctuary of his tag partner, and Trueman is eventually able to finish things off with his Coast-to-Coast drop-kick for the three count.</p><p> </p><p>

Backstage again, and we have Jimmy Marvel with the microphone, not a familiar sight over recent weeks, which adds a level of intrigue here...</p><p> </p><p>

“So, I don't normally do this, but I have a bone to pick,” Marvel informs us. </p><p> </p><p>

“Over the last couple months I've been watching as Willow has defended herself and her reputation against Al Coleman, and she's done well by herself, too, finding a great wrestler like Greg Black to help her in her fight.</p><p> </p><p>

“But that little discussion appears to be over now, and it annoys me that Coleman, after acting like a complete jerk to a lady, is the one who comes away looking like the star. I don't like seein' that so I put my mind to what I might do to help lower his self-esteem a little.</p><p> </p><p>

“So, Coleman, I think it's time that you and I went round a time or two. It seems like you learned nothing from the last couple months other than you think you can do what you want with no consequences. Well, it's time to show you that you're wrong. You're not going to get away with this – I'm not letting you.” <span style="color:#000080;">(C-)</span></p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Dave Wallace & Greg Black v. Champagne Lover & Remmy Skye</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

Whatever Wallace's issues are with Skye, he's keen to get him one-on-one in the ring, and whenever that pair is in, he's really vicious, and doesn't hesitate to use eye-pokes, low blows and small-joint manipulation whenever he thinks Pee-wee Germaine isn't looking and he can get away with it. Neither man appears to be completely on their game tonight though, leading to some awkward-looking spots that detract from what is otherwise a really good main event.</p><p> </p><p>

As is often the case, Lover is the real star of the show, often able to run rings around both Wallace and Black with some lovely high-flying manoeuvres, and able to evade the mat game of Black and the brawling of Wallace, his opponents' main strengths.</p><p> </p><p>

For his team, Black come closest to winning it, wrapping Skye up in a body-lock and something of a choke hold that looks like it will force him to tap, especially as Lover seems uncommonly disinterested in breaking up the hold – in fact he's busy exchanging barbs with a couple of fans at ringside whilst this is going on – but Skye eventually wriggles close enough to the ropes to force a break by Germaine.</p><p> </p><p>

Out of the blue, Lover is interested again and up on the apron, and Skye is only too happy to tag out. Black makes an equivalent tag to his own partner, but it isn't long before a whip-reversal sees Lover hit the Lover Stunner on the rebound, and the three count quickly follows.</p><p> </p><p>

<p><span style="text-decoration:underline;">Author's Notes</span></p><p> </p><p>

So, first up, <span style="text-decoration:underline;">prediction results</span>:</p><p> </p><p>

Spirophore got a clean sweep of winners (4/4), but didn't make any correct guesses.</p><p> </p><p>

Theheel and BHK1978 both scored 3/4 and gained a bonus point for correctly guessing that Lisa Bowen would be the manager of the incoming tag team.</p><p> </p><p>

WilburTrey scored 2/4 and gained the same bonus point.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

<span style="text-decoration:underline;">Comments on the debutants</span>:</p><p> </p><p>

The tag team are here initially to put over much of the rest of the division. Initial weeks have suffered a little by only having Notorious and various combinations of the openers as potential tag opponents that will help build positive momentum. Plus, they are decent workers for this level of competition (D+ seemed like a decent enough grade for a team that were debuting as openers). Not to mention lots of puns and comments on their names. Giving them a manager fulfils two purposes - one is so that when they do need to take a victory, managerial interference is a good excuse (and can potentially build to a reason for a rivalry down the line; the second is that although they are basically unknown in the US, their skills mean that once they get known they could move up the card. having a manager is likely to help with that as well, since it means that I can throw them out there in an interview segment whilst they are gaining popularity without completely tanking the ratings...</p><p> </p><p>

Lisa Bowen (Electric) was apparently an obvious pick, given that everyone who picked a manager picked her. She was one of the best free agents out there when I was making that decision, and she has those links into SWF that can be referenced as and when necessary, as well as to MAW. Ideally her clients will outgrow her before too long and I can repeat that trick with the next set of newcomers that need a mouthpiece...</p><p> </p><p>

Harry Allen was someone I though fitted the CZCW style quite nicely, but could also wrestle a more mat-based style that the company needs more of if it's going to rise. Bringing him in as the arrogant former TCW star who thinks the company is beneath him also lays a foundation for a later feud, regardless of who his first couple of opponents are.</p><p> </p><p>

<span style="text-decoration:underline;">Other thoughts</span>:</p><p> </p><p>

I need to let Jimmy Marvel loose with the microphone more often. He's not Champagne Lover, but that's no mean effort...</p>

After last week's confrontation between Jonnie Perez and Jordan's regular tag partner Jake Idol, it seems that Jordan has indeed been throwing his money around in order to find a resolution – we're told that a significant dollar contribution has gained Rich and Famous a non-title match tonight against Number One contenders The American Cobras, and that Idol will replace Perez as one half of the Tag Champions if Rich and Famous win the match fairly. Perez, meanwhile, has been given the week off, with the instruction to stay away, and that if he turns up at the building he'll automatically be stripped of the title.</p><p> </p><p> Elsewhere, recent re-signing Remmy Skye will be in singles action against Simon Waves. Waves is coming off a couple of weeks absence himself, but the last time we saw him in action he and Al Coleman pulled out a win over the Brothers Perez, so no doubt confidence will be pretty high.</p><p> </p><p> Coleman himself will be taking on one half of Notorious, Miguel Rivera, and both will likely have to be on the lookout for potential involvement by others. Jimmy Marvel made it clear last week that he's got it in for Coleman after Al's treatment of Willow, whilst Rivera and partner Carlos Barrera are thick in the middle of a feud with Flash Sparrow.</p><p> </p><p> To round things off, the main event is expected to feature Super Ninja and Fox Mask teaming together to face former Coastal Zone Tag Champions Wild Cats.</p><p> </p><p> Don't miss out – get yourself down to the show this evening to see what transpires!</p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><p> Card for predictions:</p><p> </p><p> Al Coleman vs. Miguel Rivera</p><p> </p><p> Rich and Famous vs. The American Cobras (non-title)</p><p> </p><p> Remmy Skye vs. Simon Waves</p><p> </p><p> Super Ninja & Fox Mask vs. Wild Cats</p>
