Most Overrated Workers in the C-Verse

Recommended Posts

It's time to flip the coin to the much easier side. Who is overrated in the C-Verse?

This question can be interpreted in a number of ways. I'm going to be talking about workers who are often pegged as "main eventers" or "future main eventers" but never seem to pan out. You don't have to answer this question.

I also didn't include the "smarky" wrestlers, because reasons.

Tyson Baine is and has been overrated. He isn't that good in the ring and can't cut a promo. His star quality and overness sabotage USPW every month in the company wars. Yeah, I get people like to abuse Menace, but there are plenty of guys you can quickly hire with similar or better menace stats.

Rick Law is and has been overrated. Bossman guy isn't. In a major company, he's an okay midcarder, but shouldn't be in the main event. In USPW, he's fairly far down the pole overall in star quality and won't carry a match. Like with Baine, his psychology falls on the right side of seventy, so he seems to get a pass on his average in-ring skills.

Steven Parker is and has been overrated. In the SWF midcard, Parker is far from the top -- Spencer Spade, Scythe, Hellion, James Adams and Mikey Lau are more deserving of a push, and also much younger. And yet, players seem intent that "The Future", who recently turned thirty, deserves championship accolades. Now, he isn't a scrub, but he's far from the best prospect at this point in his career, and he also is locked in at middleweight, so he isn't going to rise or fall in star quality.

The Dirty White Boys, Lead Belly and Grease Hogg, are overrated. I've always thought of them as the "store brand Nasty Boys" -- they've got tag experience, can brawl... and can't do much else. They lack the manager, the jackets or the look that made Jerry Sags and Brian Knobbs passable heels in WCW. Neither one has the stats to really consider a singles run unless pushed as a "monster of the week", and in CGC, they have several superior candidates.

Felipe Caballero has been overrated for a while now. Many seem to think he's a top prospect, but from his in-ring skills to his entertainment skills to his star quality, he's fairly average compared to other wrestlers his age, and he never seems to develop that well in game. He's often paired in a prospect-with-prospect team with Xavi Ferrera, but Ferrera starts with better overall skills. Why push Felipe when you could push Mutant or Joffy Laine or Island Boy Apollo, and those are just the better prospects in FCW.

<p>Jack DeColt. He's been wrestling for like what, 20 years? He's improved so little over that time, he can't even sell a stomach ache. I was never a fan of his. I mean, when he went out there with Ricky for the WrestleFestival I thought, "You know, I can predict everything they're gonna do in this match." And that's nothing against Ricky, he's a great worker, and I wouldn't say otherwise, you can see he gets the business. But I knew there would be a lot of brawling, then some stuff on the outside, which is easy, you know? It doesn't take a lot of creativity, it's not special. And I was right. That's about all they did. I mean, he's not the worst wrestler in the world, he's a good wrestler. He's a really good wrestler, he can tell a pretty good story, you know? Psychology, that's what we call it in the wrestling business, but "great?" What has he ever really done that was, you know, "great?" And Ricky--I mean wow, what an incredible talent. But if you look at Alex, like, he doesn't know what to do with him. I mean, how do you not get how to use someone like that? I get that Alex is his brother, you know, but if Ricky ever wants to make it big then he needs to ditch that bush league and come to the big leagues.</p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="FUJrvMw.png" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/FUJrvMw.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-username="KnowYourEnemy" data-cite="KnowYourEnemy" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="44480" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><strong>The Dirty White Boys</strong>, <strong>Lead Belly</strong> and <strong>Grease Hogg</strong>, are overrated. <p><strong>Frankie Dee</strong> is way overrated by both the AI and by extension Human players. I get it, he has a unique look. But he's not worth that major push in TCW the AI inevitably gives him within a year. Nearing 30, he's decidedly average, and his ratings aren't worth it. You need someone to cut a decent promo? Frankie will bring the crowd down with <em>way</em> below average skills. Plus, with his body type, he's more than likely to lose star quality <em>if</em> he's willing to move up to middleweight at all. He really needs that star quality. </p><p> </p><p>

I get that he's fun to write, but c'mon guys, he's not really worth sabotaging your ratings. Trust me. </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

Maybe it's just me, but I think <strong>Fuyoku Higa</strong> is overrated. In general, never trust when the game says someone will be great, because it's a trap [see Faith, Matty]. I get it, Higa is good. But she isn't <em>good enough</em> to justify being the worst backstage influence in TEW History. Plus, she's competing with several great female talents on the American independents [because let's face it, almost no one here plays 5SSW in '16]. Point being, with Joanne Rodriguez and Snazzle Brazzle and Cherry Bomb and other greats at your disposal, what makes Higa worth the hassle on the wrong side of twenty? Her above-average psychology? Decent promo skills? I get that her star quality draws in a lot of people, but you aren't exactly entering national battles anytime soon with AAA -- plus, in TEW 2016, you can always get close to an A with any number of prospects after getting them to increase in size.</p>

<p><strong>Sean McFly</strong> is overrated.</p><p> </p><p>

I know, I know, but in any company that can get him outside of NOTBPW, McFly is not worth having around. For the money he'll expect to sign for you, you can build up other performers to deliver matches of comparable quality - and they can almost certainly work the mic better, as well. McFly is a positive backstage presence, which can't be discounted, but NOTBPW is pretty much built around him. Take him out of there, and you won't get the same results. He's good, great even, but for his age, cost and infuriating lack of entertainment skills he's simply not worth the investment.</p>

Ratings wise they aren't great and people know that but they don't need to be, the sign if a good tag division isn't the ratings they pull, it's the amount of viable champs in the division. I just think they've become a staple in CGC now that they are always there or there abouts when it comes to the belts. I think its more of a sticking to Canon then over rating them.</p>

<strong>Rocky Golden</strong> is seriously overrated in TCW. Main eventer amd figurehead? I have only gotten a single 85+ match out of him, in multiple saves. Maybe in SWF where his charisma would get him over - but he can’t wrestle, he refuses to put people over, and he has wage matching. When a pre-show Sammy Bach vs Killer Shark match is outperforming you, it’s time to G-O.

His personality also isn’t disruptive and he’ll usually put over anyone as well. On top of that I’ve never been disappointed with his match grades, especially on normal TV he can have a B+ match with random mid carders that will be good enough for a main event.</p><p> </p><p> On the flip side though, <strong> Bryan Vessey</strong> seems to never live up to his in ring skills. Probably cause he’s already old, but on paper he should be a lot better than what he produces and he’s kind of a jackass (and does steroids) so he can be a pain backstage while not really being of much use on screen.</p>

<p>Very interesting topic. </p><p> </p><p>

The aspect I find really interesting is how many people look at characters and find them unappealing. Its such a subjective thing, even more subjective that how "good" a given worker is in the ring. There are some variables there, but only so much. But with character... there have been so many times that there has been a Cvere or Tverse character I never really connected with until I read a specific take someone did, often in a diary. And boom, completely changes my outlook on that worker and their character. </p><p> </p><p>

Rick Law is a good example. I can see why some people see him as a bit bland. But he was a favorite of mine in TCW because I never saw the "lawnman" character as too overt, but a bit more subtle. And he was always a solid in-ring worker who needed just a bit of protection. I was the sads when he was signed away by USPW and will be there forever. </p><p> </p><p>

Haven't used them in forever, but the DWB are the kind of staple tag team I would want to build a division around. They are hosses, and hosses are always loads of fun. The gimmicks aren't exciting but that doesn't mean they are necessarily bad - its all about how you perceive it and make use of it. And as poputt points out, they large pretty well. And the dynamic between them - great tag experience, and I believe they are friends - would be a big part of it. I see them being these mediocre workers in every way, but they work very well together and standout to the largeness in an otherwise fairly average sized tag division. I see endless matches where they use their size and teamwork against smaller opponents, who sometimes manage to pull the underdog upset, a few squash matches where they are kept to look dangerous, and then being outsmarted by the DeColt's on occasion. Those kind of cycles would get old in a bigger company, but for something like CGC.... that could last a decade. </p><p> </p><p>

I'll have to put some thought into who I find to be a bit overrated too...</p>

I get that her star quality draws in a lot of people, but you aren't exactly entering national battles anytime soon with AAA -- plus, in TEW 2016, you can always get close to an A with any number of prospects after getting them to increase in size.</p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> I've never used Higa (I've been too scared to), but the ladies you mentioned are all GOLD.</p><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-username="marsupial311" data-cite="marsupial311" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="44480" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div>How you gonna call out Higa's age when the people you mentioned are nearing the end of their careers. Long live Higa!</div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><p> The difference is that, at least with J-Ro and the "Miracle Blonde", they often take on proteges and train young wrestlers, and that's an added bonus; in fact, one playthrough saw Suzanne Brazzle take on TWO proteges at the same time! Again, never used Higa, but I HAVE had a few negative influences in various games, and I've never seen a negative influence take on a protege. Even "not negative influences" who can be difficult if they're too over, like Alicia Strong and Raven Nightfall, will take mentor roles on occasion.</p>

Higa doesn't stand out compared to other competitors, so it isn't really worth putting up with her extremely negative backstage influence. </p><p> </p><p> Let's also remember most players aren't using her in Japan, where she's decently over, but bringing her into an American company, where she starts out with zero overness. </p><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-username="marsupial311" data-cite="marsupial311" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="44480" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div>How you gonna call out Higa's age when the people you mentioned are nearing the end of their careers. On most (if not all) C-Verse workers, the game randomly selects a maturity age between 18 and 30 at the start. </p><p> </p><p> It's likely that Ms. Higa has already hit her maturity age before the game starts. Her skills won't grow exponentially. With a poor destiny roll, she may not even get to the point where she can call matches in the ring.</p>

Higa is the best choice as a figurehead for any all-female promotion, and her skills are very suited to both NOTBPW and USPW, and more well-rounded in general. That's going to rub off onto other workers who are more your style, and she's not likely to injure them. It's only going to take her a year or so to become fluent in English/Spanish/West-Central Siberian, and she starts with great microphone skills. Also, the girls in AAA and QAW will debut at about the same pop as Higa will with the new updates adding that "exposure" thing.</p>
