Trying something - 12 tournaments as GAMMA, one in each weight class. (I've added 4 women's weight classes plus featherweight/bantamweight.)

36 fighters in each class, 32 for the tournament and 4 as alternates if needed. March has first round matches, July has 2nd round matches, November has the finals (one night tournaments in each case.)

2 weight classes per show, for the first round, with 8 fights in the main card from one weight class, and 8 fights in the prelims from another. (So March has 12 shows overall, with half the people from each weight class on each first round show.)

Halfway through, and the following weight classes have completed their first round match-ups:

Light Heavyweight

Mike Watson made short work of veteran Raul Hughes, and most of the favourites advanced. The one shock, though, was a huge one - 61 seconds into the second round of their bout, Big Magic caught Linfield Ballard with a massive uppercut and knocked out the world ranked number 15! Anthony LeToussier had the most impressive performance in the division, wiping out Petey Barnum in just 34 seconds with a massive head kick.

Women's Bantamweight

Daniela Sadorra stole the show in this division, a brutal punch KO'ing Serena Hill. We also saw one of our nastier injuries so far, Ruth Becker suffering a broken jaw in her clash with Rain Richards, leading her corner to throw the towel in. The biggest shock of the first round came in Kaoru Nanami's match against Saya Ikegami. With Nanami ranked 21st in the company, and Ikegami ranked 15th in the entire world, Saya was the favorite here but lost to a TKO due to blood streaming down her face and affecting her vision.

Middleweight

Few shocks here in the week 1 show, although there was nearly a big upset - Ethan Sutton was generally considered to have taken the first round of his fight with Neil Napier 10-8, leading to people thinking he might pull off the win. Napier, though, is far too good to count out, and managed to recover to tap his opponent out in round two with a rear naked choke.

Week 3, on the other hand, saw a massive surprise, Isaiah Monroe taking the fight to Osmosis Benn and getting the victory in the first round with a barrage of strikes. It looked briefly as if Alex Cole was set to cause another surprise as he started well against Adam White, but White survived some good early offense and ground out a decision victory.

Women's Flyweight

The happiest person in GAMMA may be Liz Brunell - the Welsh woman wasn't even in the tournament originally, but got the call to face KT McManamara after Karen Curtis tore her rotator cuff. Despite not looking too good, Brunnell scraped through in a split decision. Meanwhile 32-year-old Emiri Fueki exploded onto the American scene with a fantastic hard knee to wipe out Shannon Palmer in just 36 seconds, and Kimie Igarishi showed her submission skills, forcing Diana England to tap to a heel hook. Speaking of submissions, Trish Biel showed the guys how it's done at GAMMA 57, winning submission of the night by forcing Alicia Fothergill to tap out to a rear naked choke. That card also saw our first draw, Kata Mallasz and Ayame Kondo going to a unanimous 28-28 decision which means they'll BOTH be eliminated. 18-year-old alternate Honor O'Neill steps in and will fight Pamela O'Neill.

Super Heavyweight

Several shocks here - in the first show of the month, 'The Warlord' Hunter Matuszak, in his first ever pro fight, brutalised number 7 ranked Irwin Middleton, while Jeremy-Brett Teller celebrated his 2nd pro fight and GAMMA debut by beating the heck out of Seb Morehead, ranked 5. Two weeks later, the upsets kept coming. Iggy Coan took just 63 seconds in his pro debut to score a TKO over 6 ranked Gary Sampson, while Marvin Stevens - ranked 4 - fell via unanimous decision to another debutant, kick boxer Martin Greenstein.

Bantamweight

Favorites falling like flies here! Week 1 saw Mako Day, an 18-year-old BJJ fighter, get a debut victory over Ray Bellinger, ranked 5. Number 3 ranked Kanji Togo took out Takauji Aida with a D'Arce choke in one of our best fights of the year so far, but took enough damage to get a medical suspension, meaning he won't make the next round. And boxer Ward Malaprop got a decision victory over the world number 1 Willy Bassett. The other show could barely hope to live up to that one for shocks, although Nadir Mendes Ferreira took out Gus Waters (ranked 8) and Mitchell Bryan and 15 ranked Stiffy Little took each other out with a unanimous 28-28 draw.

Love the idea of this! Have toyed around with a few things similar to this before but never quite followed through with it. Might have to revisit something like this at some point!

Up to Feb 2003 with a GAMMA game myself, although much more standard in terms of how I'm booking.

Super Heavyweight: 2002 was the year of Teddy Glossop. Scored 30-25 across the board against Seb Morehead in January, knocked Frank Paul out in 18 seconds in August, then TKO'd Kel Ryan to win the title in December. Rematch with Davey Rushton up next as his first title defence. Den Bickersteth looks like one to watch - he went 2-0 in 2002, both knockouts which came after 28 seconds and 21 seconds.

Heavyweight: James Foster saw off the challenges of Tony McCall and Rav Kapur so he is still at the top of the Heavyweight pile. Next man up is Kurt McDonald who just beat Aleksander Ivanov in a number one contender's bout. Hassan Fezzik has just signed with us, he'll meet Tim Boyer shortly and if he gets the win will likely get the next title shot. Chuck Dooley and Sam Hoynes are both 3-0 in GAMMA and have a date with each other set for GAMMA 63.

Light Heavyweight: If Teddy Glossop had a great year in the Super Heavy division then Nilton Fantoni had an even better 2002 at Light Heavyweight. He has submission wins over Linfield Ballard, Raul Hughes & Mike Watson, the latter earning him the title. Osmosis Benn was making waves, winning his first two fights after moving up from Middleweight, but failed to beat Marlon John - who may be next up for a title shot. Weirdly, Big Magic has been on fire so far, going 3-0 since game start and finishing all three within the first two minutes (vs Karl Martin, Jerry Bogdonovich & Leon Banks), a step up in competition will be heading his way.

Middleweight: Stop me if you've heard this one before - Matthew Dean is beating everybody. So far he's beaten Adam White, Braulio Moura & Tora Mizwar. Buddy Garner has been on a tear so may be heading for his third shot at Dean in the near future. Another who may not be far off is Ramon da Silva Ramos who has gone 3-0 since game start and is now 4-0 in GAMMA.

Welterweight: This title has been passed around a few times, Julio Regueiro lost in his first defence to Bobby Brubaker, who then lost in his first defence to Manuel Silva. Regueiro may get another shot soon, he's booked in a number one contender's fight at GAMMA 63 against the resurgent David Allen(3-0 since game start).

Lightweight: Fiyero Lermontov beat Jake Keane to win the gold in one of my first shows but hasn't fought since. Helio brutalised Luke Hilton at GAMMA 50 and was set for a showdown with Fiyero but then got popped for recreational drugs. He's just now coming back and due to everyone else at the top of the division all playing hot potato with wins and losses, I may stick him straight in a number one contender's fight - likely against Sean Morrison.

Featherweight: Introduced the division through a third season of Clash Of The Titans, which ended up being won by Lamont Banner - he beat David James Diggle to become the division's first ever champion. Philip Ziskie wasn't in COTT but he's debuted since and had back to back wins over Snorri Gunnarsson and Brandon Sugar, so he'll face off with Banner in an upcoming show. Li-Kong Ho is set to debut next month.

Bantamweight: Just waiting for all 16 of the guys I've signed to be fully recuperated then I'll be started a fourth season of Clash Of The Titans to introduce this division. COTT coaches will be Mike Watson and Raul Hughes. Favourites to win COTT are likely Brian Claremont and Apolonio Redondo Jr.

Trying to be as disciplined as possible on this playthrough - normally I end up signing half of the free world and having 50+ guys in each division and it becomes a nightmare to manage. This time I'm trying to keep to a pretty strict 30-35 ish guys per division and it's proving much more fun. Having a blast!

BCF, early 2003 so just over a year in.

Carter Potter is heavyweight champion, has been pretty dominant against Fritz Phipps & Mark Bicknell, but has his toughest test coming up against Aleksander Ivanov. Ozzy Bintley & Morgan Wakarewarewa are rising the ranks fast.

Tikhon Diev is on a tear at LHW, dominating McFadden to win the belt then smashing McSweegan (who got the shot after a shock win over Niko Soldo) He’s got Kirby next which he should win, but has Valentin Taneyev & a rebounded Niko Soldo to contend with soon. Interesting times.

Rob Baines is dominating middleweight. First round submission finishes of Henning Olsen, Ginger Beaumont & Ram Phookan have set him apart from the rest of the division. Charlie Oakley is up next, in what will probably be another first round submission. American’s Bill Brown & Wes Hersch are looking like future threats.

David Webb is still champ at Welterweight, although only just. After beating Steve Griffin & Mills Mullally fairly comfortably he got past Vikram Sithalayan on a split decision, in what has to be considered a robbery. (Commentary gave Sithalayan 4 rounds) up next for Webb is the winner of a title eliminator between Evgeni Medtner & Martin Cupples.

Luis Basora is the newly crowned Lightweight Champ, getting a first round RNC win over Doug Hansen. Up next for Basora is Rupert Lennox, with Georges Nouri & Tim Oldacres also in title contention. Former champ Hansen is looking to get back on track against Patrik Pederson.

Following on from this, into Dec 2003 now. Potter got past Ivanov with a TKO victory, then lost the belt to Matthew Michael Kirby who became double champ in a super fight. Kirby lost his first defence to a returning Rav Kapur. It’s back to the LHW division now for Kirby. Kapur’s first defence could come against Ivanov, who just knocked out surging contender Morgan Wakarewarewa although there’s also former champ Carter Potter vs Souleymane Ya Konan is coming up, so perhaps the winner of that will get the shot. Ya Konan has an impressive win streak with knockout wins over Ozzy Bintley & Fritz Phipps on his resume.

Diev lost the belt to Kirby via brutal knockout. Kirby moved up to heavyweight to become double champ, leaving him inactive at 205. Crow Leddy, fresh off an impressive win over Valentin Taneyev, defeated the returning Curt Kitson to become interim Light Heavyweight Champion, setting up a unification fight with Kirby. Also in the division Diev rebounded from his title defeat with a win over Niko Soldo, and Mike Watson & Rafael van der Moot have joined, both winning their debuts against ranked opponents. Won’t be long until they’re in the title picture.

Baines dominance didn’t last much longer, Oakley was able to win the title via split decision, then retained the belt a few months later in a rematch by unanimous decision. The 2nd title defence for Oakley will be undefeated contender Ollie Castle. Baines lost his next fight to newcomer Adam White by a 1st round submission, so it looks like his best days may be behind him now. Bill Brown, Carlos da Guia, Adam White, Neil Napier & several others are waiting in the wings in a stacked division.

Webb lost the belt to Evgeni Medtner, in a one sided beat down so bad that it led to Webb taking a hiatus from MMA. Medtner won his first title defence against former champ Will Kane, in another one sided fight. Up next is Martin Cupples, who is on a winning streak & was supposed to fight Medtner in a #1 contender fight earlier but pulled out with injury. Brazilian Manuel Silva & Noach van der Cappellan are certain future title challengers, both 2-0 in BCF so far. Evan Gardner also gradually making his way up the ranks.

Lightweight is an absolute shark tank. Basora has successfully defended against Rupert Lennox & Georges Nouri so far, and has Jake Keane up next. Lermontov, Sukarno, Helio, O’Breen, Hansen, Cabral & Dantas are all very dangerous potential challengers.

I did a one night 4-man tournament to crown a Featherweight champion, which was won by Snorri Gunnarsson, defeating Dalglish in the final. Gunnarsson lost his first title defence to American David James Diggle. Diggle was supposed to defend against Bernacci, who is fresh off a spectacular head kick knockout of Luiz Machado, however Bernacci had to pull out with an injury, and Gunnarsson is stepping in on 2 weeks notice to get his immediate rematch. Atep of Indonesia, Yagi Jokichi & Azor Portela Nunes are all looking very dangerous

Made a new GAMMA save starting going back to the ALPHA1 startup date (so end of '92). For my first event, I decide to actually use the hype feature on Humphreys for his inpromptu title match against Halvorsen. The latter promptly proceeded to knock him out in 32s. There's numerous small upsets in every game, obviously, but I did NOT see that one coming... :p

Now Halvorsen is the only fighter in the db who's stats I changed because he's just way too much past his prime in the default start date. But I only upped his takedown, wrestling and chin by a relatively small margin (he IS a legend...).

Great start.

Always very excited for these "dawn of MMA"-type saves. Not every fighter turns out the way you want him to because of the random max-values, but that's mainly a problem for the low-skilled starters like the women. Fezzik will be Fezzik, luckily.

Playing my first semi-long term game as GAMMA in 5 for me, and boy has it been a doozy so far. About to finish year to and my champions are as follows

-DEC 2K3- part 1

SHW - Davey Rushton, having defeated the seemingly unbeatable wrecking machine Kel Ryan with a knock out, Rushton regained the championship of which he was the inaugral holder. Ryan had a phenomenal reign, defeating George Pickering to win the belt back in January 2002 in merely 29 seconds. He held the title until April 2003, having defended against legendary heavyweight Jeff Carlton, Frank Paul, and MA Parker before being knocked out in under 5 minutes by Rushton. Rushton had been undefeated since the beginning of 2002, going 5-0 before working his way back to a title shot. He defended the title for the first time in August with a first round TKO over Roope Kuqi.

HW- Rav Kapur, since dethroning longtime king James Foster in a prolonged dominant decision win, Kapur has finished each of his 3 challengers before the final round even began. He defeated previously undefeated trash talker Lars-Gunnar Ekberg via 2nd round TKO, LHW champion Raul Hughes via 4th round knockout, and most recently TKO'd Hassan Fezzik in round 2. With wins over arguably the 2 most legendary heavyweights of all time, he could very well be the Greatest of All Time, especially considering the current slide of Foster especially. Murilo Satinho is the next challenger for sure, but given the split of heavyweight into 2 divisions, Cruiserweight being 206-235 & Heavyweight 236-265 this leaves room for even more new challengers to break through.

I'm playing GAMMA from the start (april '94), now in april '97. I did however not lower the stats of the fighters so the problem is a lot of them start out as elite fighters and only get better. As a result, once some guys get KO'd badly their chins are done and their careers are pretty much over.

Somehow, Pike is my 3rd most popular fighter, despite his bad marketability and my not hyping him. DeVries, Brubaker and McCall are also popular, because of course they are.

I'm playing very sports-oriented, so title fights are honest. As a result, it's been very back and forth. All divisions are treated the same in terms of card position and size.

HW: Terron Cabal (12-0, 9-0 GAMMA): Took the title from Carlton after he went on hiatus. I let him keep the title (bad decision) so 2 of his 5 title defenses are "interims". Pike was first champ for 2 defenses.

LHW: Spencer Rubenstein (10-1, 8-1 GAMMA): Has lost to Hughes but took the title back from Lim. Cummings was the first champ and even Banks had the honors once.

MW: Thorbjorn Rekdal (10-1, 6-1 GAMMA). Matthew Dean has (of course) been on top here, but no record title defenses as Rekdal body kicked him out of the top seat. Mack and Thomas also got a win on the title held first by Fuller.

WW: Bobby Brubaker (8-1, 8-1 GAMMA) became the youngest champ to date when he had his first run. He got involved in movies as well. Chambers knocked him out and actually managed 2 defenses, which is more than Halvorsen's first run. With only 3 people to hold the gold in 3 years, one of the more... consistent divisions.

LW: Sukarno (13-0, 10-0 GAMMA) hasn't been beaten by anyone and made sure no one got his name in the record books after his arrival. Sugar and Steven preceded him.

I started up women's BW and FlyW but nothing of note yet. Vaughan got the first run there.

Sukarno, Rubenstein and Cabal's chins are still fresh so I expect them to dominate. Foster was at the Olympics, so he's absent. Morrison has been on a hiatus.

Currently in 2010 in my GAMMA playthrough.

Isiah Monroe and Barrett Fforde setup a camp in 2006 named Women's MMA which is one of the most dominant camps in my game with a few world champs lol.

Plot twist there are zero women who train at Women's MMA it's exclusively men.

Very weird. Never saw that name pop up in my games, but it's definitely geared towards women. In fact, it doesn't allow men. If you didn't tamper with the database this is actually a bug, unless somehow the code overwrites the database based on the current world context, which I doubt.

Can you check "team names" in the database?

Are you sure the men training there aren't just the creators? They can obviously train there as it's their camp. :p

Wow! I just checked in the database and it definately says allows men: no.

But in the game this is 100% a camp that allows men. in Fact, there's no women in there at all.

You could report it as a bug. I'm pretty sure camp values don't change organically. It's only through narratives. (not 100% sure though :o)

Meanwhile, my champs are falling like flies. Especially LHW which is just... stacked with talent. Bogdonovich is the current C. I blame the database as nobody's made a proper historical db yet afaik, which gives a lot of "young" fighters prime-level stats at +- 23, so not a stellar idea. It's more fun to me to play with fleshed out characters instead of random guys.

In a watcher game, Morrison beat Sukarno for the GAMMA LW belt but got slapped with a drug suspension. He appealed and ... actually won it, reducing the sentence to just 1 month. I've never seen this work afaik in my ... many player games. Nice to see the game breaking the habit.

FYI: the rematch happened months after, and he got his butt kicked by Sukarno.

The database I ran it with had every fighter equipped with an "iron chin", and I must say I love the results. No longer are top contenders booted out of relevance after succumbing to a random KO loss, which can potentially lower your chin by as much as 10%. (which is quite relevant, trust me).

It's currently December 1993 in my "Dawn of MMA" universe. Royce Gracie won "UFC 1: The Beginning" and I'm ready to hold "UFC 2: No Way Out". It's been a lot of fun (and quite a challenge) recreating the birth of MMA and UFC. I am running UFC and right now no other company is really challenging me... although Pancrase is starting to make some noise with a couple of big signings.

It’s crazy how different the fighters potentials are on every save. Pizzarro is barely a top 15 welterweight on mine. Solid fighter of course but nowhere near the title.

Yeah I'd rather have it be the same like in TEW20 where you can randomize the starting values through a checkmark in the db options. Pizzarro often does well in my saves, but sometimes he's just a glorified can.

Between WMMA5 and WMMA4 I've played probably around 10 saves for at least 10 years each and Pizarro has never been as dominant as he was this go around. 13 Title Defences across 10 years and fighting into his 40s he had some stacked competition in welterweight as well - he basically destroyed two generation of the worlds best WW's

Bobby Brubaker, Gus Fitzpatrick X2, Evan Gardner X2, Fukusaburu Hirano, Manuel Silva, Jakuchu Abe all got finishd by Pizarro.

as well as a bunch of regens in my game who climbed to #2 and looked the goods to beat him.

So playing as BCF, started in Jan 2002, currently in July 2005 so 3 & a half years in. Here’s my title history so far

Heavyweight

1. Carter Potter

2. Matthew Michael Kirby (was double champ)

3. Rav Kapur

4. Murilo Satinho (next defence: Lars-Gunnar Ekberg)

Light Heavyweight

1. Lenny McFadden

2. Tikhon Diev

3. Matthew Michael Kirby (double champ)

I'm just reached 2004 after reopening FLB and trying to rebuild them from the ground up. We're currently the #3 company in the world and should be hitting low-level national in the next few months. Here are my champs:

Heavyweight: Murilo Santinho (15-0)

It was always assumed he would win the belt back as soon as he returned to FLB and he did so with a UD win over Gladstone Lopes. A fight with Pai Cheng (14-0) is on the horizon for his first defense.

Light Heavyweight: Nilton Fantoni (15-0)

Fantoni has finished all 5 of his fights since the game started in 2002 and hasn't left the 1st minute of the 2nd round since rejoining FLB. However, we have recently signed Affonso Villar (30-4) who will no doubt prove to be his toughest challenge yet.

Middleweight: Ramon da Silva Ramos (13-0)

The unquestioned MVP of my save so far, Ramos has been cleaning out the FLB middleweight ranks since rejoining from GAMMA. He has fought for us 4 times and all fights have either ended in KO or TKO inside 2 rounds with victories over Jorge Hormazabal, Leonardo da Costa, Braulio Moura and Esteban Vega all of whom other than da Costa were ranked top 20 in the world at the time of their fight. He will have to stay on top of his game to remain at the apex of this tough division though because we just managed to sign the #2 p4p fighter in the world and former ALPHA-1 champ, Joaquim Fontes (30-3) who has somehow finished his last 9 opponents and hasn't lost in about 7 years.

Welterweight: Gideon Navarro (13-1)

Navarro is the current holder of the hot potato that is the Welterweight title. It hasn't been defended more than once since the save started and this is his personal 2nd reign. We made a splash signing of Carlos da Guia to try to stabilize the title, but he was promptly KO'd in his first match with us by Will Kane. Navarro will have to take on Kane in the next few months and I'm hoping he can actually hold on to the belt for longer than a couple of months this time.

Lightweight: Helio (24-1-1)

Another title that can't seem to stay put is in the lightweight division, but now that Helio has signed and won it off of Charles Stiles (21-6) I have hope that there will be some title defenses. Up next for him is likely Manoel Cabral (12-1) who just avenged his only pro loss and has been a fan favorite since FLB reopened.

What's going on in my game, is that the fight engine handed a win to Joshua Hope that he hadn't effing earned. The game said Hope hit a jab and missed his second punch, then followed it up by saying Watson hit him with a good right hook. Then the game has Watson being laid out and ground and pounded into submission. Off a friggin JAB? I thought this wasn't supposed to be able to happen?
