A return to film-making beckons for wrestling legend Roddy Piper as he has been cast in an upcoming big budget animation movie. Piper, who has landed a lead role, is expected to begin filming in three months.

UFC 5's buyrate is 1.05 which would make it higher than the best buyrate WCW has ever done and about equal with many WWF buyrates. And this is with no TV and very little mainstream publicity. Experts says UFC buyrates will start surpassing Wrestlemania numbers by next year at the rate they've been going up. UFC wants to do a future Ken Shamrock vs. Royce Gracie rematch. NWA World Champion Dan Severn made the NWA relevant again after winning the UFC 5 tournament and is now fielding offers from pretty much every wrestling promotion in the world.

In breaking news, our reporters have confirmed that Pancrase star Bas Rutten has just won his MMA fight.

Sabu has joined up with ECW-enemy Dennis Coraluzzo and they are working together to promote a show in Michigan. Sabu's lifelong dream has been to run his own promotion like his uncle The Sheik and that's what Sabu and Coraluzzo are doing now. Sabu is upset that Paul Heyman buried him in front of the ECW fans. Heyman is pissed about Sabu's statements about ECW not being real wrestling and wanting more clean finishes. The CMLL World Trios titles changed hands last night, as Mano Negra, Super Astro and Mascarita Sagrada became the new champions, ending the reign of Jaque Mate, Emilio Charles Jr. and Sangre Chicana.

60 Minutes and Sports Illustrated are both reportedly working on stories about deaths in wrestling, focusing on the recent death of Big John Studd (linked to steroids and Dr. Zahorian during Vince McMahon's trial). Insiders claims that, WCW is the most concerned about it because every story about steroids always comes back to Hulk Hogan, plus there's concern that Ted Turner's name could be linked to it, which would be very bad news for WCW.

ECW Barely Legal! Extreme Championship Wrestling held Barely Legal last night in Harry A. Gampel Pavilion, and drew 9,485 fans. The feedback has been that the show was awesome. New Jack has gotten into some trouble again. For whatever reason, New Jack showed up on this low-level indie show near Cincinnati. New Jack ran in during the main event and began throwing real punches at everyone in the ring, and gave one guy a cut that required 12 stitches. Security guards eventually realized that this had gotten out of hand and tackled New Jack which led to more fighting in the parking lot. When the cops showed up, New Jack had already left.

Hayabusa has recently been wrestling in the United States, mainly in the Florida area.The World Wrestling Federation is interested in Hayabusa and offered a tryout, but he has declined and remains with FMW.

Hiroyoshi Tenzan ended weeks of rumour last night, as a press release on the NJPW website revealed that he had signed a contract with them. Shawn Michaels was a previous of The Kliq until his friendship with Kevin Nash ended in last year.

At the latest WWF tapings Shawn Michaels ended up in a backstage fight with The Blu Brothers. At the show, the two brothers entered Shawn Michael’s dressing room and put a chair against the door to prevent anyone from coming in. They grabbed Michaels by the throat and held him against the wall while giving him a beating and calling him “a little f*gg*t” and "a punk ass b*tch". Reports say that Shawn was crying like a wimp after the incident. “There are various reports as to the whys of this incident basically stemming from personal disagreements.” Shawn isn't popular in the locker room and many wrestlers want to rough him up, but don’t because of Shawn’s status and power within the company. The Blu Brothers got away with it because of their friendship with Kevin Nash (who don't have Shawn's back anymore since their friendship ended last year), and because they are on their way out of the company anyway.

ECWA Annual Super 8 Tournament! East Coast Wrestling Assocation held the Annual Super 8 Tournament last night in Knott Arena, in Emmitsburg, Maryland and drew 2,994 fans. So right now it's WCW, WWF and actually SMW. So available old school workers are likely to end up in SMW together with a few prospect. And since WWF and SMW have a working relationship i can send workers like Jerry Lawler, Al Snow and Unabomb down to SMW to spice it up. So now NWA is relevant again and Dan Severn is booked the way he should be.

Call me crazy but I always have loved Bunkhouse Buck/the Stud Stable's theme there. I can't even put my finger on it other than that I just love the melody and the lead guitar twang of it. It's mostly just a generic few notes, but I like how they're put together.

Turner Broadcasting executives are pretty hands-off with WCW and have given Eric Bischoff and Hulk Hogan full control of every aspect of the company. Bischoff has basically been given a year to get the finances in order and turn the ship around, so any and all budget cuts and firings are 100% Bischoff's and Hogan's decisions.

Missy Hyatt was looking to get an backstage interviewing job with WWF, but was turned down.

Dory Funk Jr. has backed out of wrestling at WCW's Slamboree in a planned legends match, since he is still recovering from his torn ACL. Wahoo McDaniel has also declined the proposed match, due to wear and tear from currently touring the United States with the Xcitement Wrestling Federation.

According to insiders, WCW plans to turn "Macho Man" Randy Savage heel sometime early next year for a huge moneymaking feud with Hulk Hogan.

AAA had to cancel a planned show in San Jose this week due to their own disorganization. The arena was booked, but AAA is seemingly in chaos and had no lineup announced, no transportation planned and the show just fell apart. AAA and CMLL are both trying to expand into the United States, but it just doesn't seem to be working.

Sabu and WCW have not yet reached a deal. Eric Bischoff offered Sabu a spot as the top heel in the new WCW Cruiserweight division and a possible feud with the 19-year old prodigy Alex Wright, but Sabu turned it down because he doesn't want to be typecast as a Cruiserweight wrestler. Sabu reportedly wants to feud for the WCW United States title since that's the title his uncle The Sheik is famous for holding (Back in the NWA days, The Sheik held the "Detroit version" of the title 12 times).

The WWF reaches an agreement to begin airing periodic prime time specials on NBC. However, Dick Ebersol, who heads up the network’s sports department, cancels the agreement only days later.

ABC's Wide World of Sports aired their segment on wrestling this week. It was a segment called "Requiem for the Heavyweights" and as expected, tried to tie steroids to the death of Big John Studd. Sports Illustrated interviewed Ultimate Warrior, Missy Hyatt, and Dave Meltzer about the death of Big John Studd. WCW was reportedly relieved because they expected the story to be a lot worse and they're terrified of anyone taking a close look at the steroid and drug situation in their company.

Brian Pillman gone from WCW! WCW and Brian Pillman have parted company after his contract expired after the Loser Leaves WCW Match at Spring Stampede. "Loose Cannon" Brian Pillman has been unavailable to comment about his future.

Hulk Hogan is opening up a Pastamania restaurant at the Mall of America in Minneapolis and is trying to turn it into a franchise. He is negotiating for leases in Baltimore and Philadelphia, with plans to open 5 more locations this year and another 25 in 1996, and hope to sell Hulk Hogan Pasta and sauces in supermarkets.

WCW's Craig Pittman became the first wrestler from one of the major American promotions to take part in a shootfighting tournament, participating in a show in Japan and losing in the semi-finals in a controversial decision. The rules are slightly different than UFC and the match took place in a wrestling ring. Eric Bischoff's idea was for Pittman to have a strong showing in hopes that it would impress UFC enough to invite him to participate in the next UFC show.

Rob Van Dam championship win! Pro Wrestling America saw a title change, as Shane Douglas lost the PWA Heavyweight championship to Rob Van Dam. This victory marks his first reign with the title. Shane Douglas managed sixteen successful title defences prior to this defeat.

Razor Ramon faced Jeff Jarrett in a dark match with Jarrett's manager The Roadie hanging above the ring in a cage at the latest Raw taping. After the match, they put Jarrett in the cage with The Roadie and then, as a rib, left both guys hanging up there for the next few matches.

Koji Kanemoto began his first reign as IWGP Jr. Heavyweight champion, when he took the title away from El Samurai at NJPW Wrestling Dontaku. El Samurai managed five successful title defences prior to this defeat.

WCW is planning to send hyped rookie Paul Wight down to USWA for seasoning.

Bulked up Barry Windham! The new, more-muscular physique of WWF star Barry Windham has been a topic of conversation amongst some wrestling fans. Apparently the result of a "pretty intense" weight-training regime, he has definetely bulked-up considerably and is now considered a Heavyweighter.

Nailz has reached an out-of-court settlement with WWF, stemming from the incident in 1992 when Nailz attacked Vince McMahon and then both sides sued each other. The agreement basically comes down to both sides dropping their cases and no money exchanging hands, but allowing Nailz to use that name when wrestling elsewhere.

In his weekly Calgary Sun newspaper column, Bret Hart wrote about the retirement of Joe Montana and managed to get some digs in on Ric Flair and Bob Backlund, writing: "I was sad to see the end of the career of one of the truly great players of this or any other era--perhaps the best there is, the best there was or the best there ever will be. At the same time, I was happy to see Montana go out on his terms--at the top of his game, not crippled or dismembered, with class and no regrets. UWA Money Woes! When Antonio Pena broke away from CMLL, and formed AAA if also affected UWA's profit margin. Now when the Peso has lost its value the UWA is reported to be in financial ruin.

CMLL saw a title change last night, as Dr. Wagner Jr. defeated Hector Garza and El Hijo del Santo for the NWA World Middleweight Championship. El Hijo del Santo managed eighteen successful title defences prior to this defeat.
