They said that Shawn Michaels has always played himself up as the leader, but what has he ever really done? He promised they’d all be world champions, but none of them got close. Hell, he lost to The Undertaker at WrestleMania. So instead of them listening to Shawn, now everybody is going to listen to them as they take over RAW and do whatever the hell they want. Of course they were soon cut off by Michaels who told Nash & Hall that if they wanted to go their own way, they only had to ask, now he was going to have to kick their heads off. Michaels wasn’t stupid enough to step into the ring with the two of them right now, but said that he was going to show Hall & Nash why he was the leader and they were just sheep, because tonight he’d organised to go one on one with Kevin Nash! <strong>(B+ / 88)</strong><p> </p><p> 1. In the opening contest two of RAW’s powerhouses collided as Vader battled Ahmed Johnson. Both men had an impressive 1996 but haven’t really done anything so far this year, and the brand split is their chance to change that. It would be Vader who came out on top as he devastated Johnson with a huge splash in the corner before crushing him with the Vader Bomb to pick up the win. <strong>(B / 80)</strong></p><p> </p><p> - Following the match Jim Cornette got on the microphone, calling Vader the strongest, most dominant wrestler in all of World Wrestling Federation and saying he’d steamroll over anybody who steps in his way. That theory got put to the test when Scott Steiner marched down to the ring, wanting to see if Vader was as strong as everybody says. Vader was up for a fight but Jim Cornette convinced him to walk away, though this is sure to not be the last time these two meet. <strong>(B / 82)</strong></p><p> </p><p> - Backstage Todd Pettengill got a few words with Shane Douglas and Lance Storm. Separated from the rest of Extreme Rising in the draft, The Franchise Players promised that they’re going to show just why they are the most impressive and important talents on the RAW roster, and it stars by beating “those bland nobodies” The Bodydonnas tonight. <strong>(C / 59)</strong></p><p> </p><p> 2. A short and sweet win for WWF Women’s Champion Madusa over Debbie Combs here as she pulled it off in less than five minutes with a wicked Bridging German Suplex. <strong>(C- / 56)</strong></p><p> </p><p> - The match might be over, but as Madusa got to her feet she found herself coming face to face with the woman she took the title from, Etsuko Mita. Mita signalled for the title, which she never got her rematch for, but Madusa brushed her off like nothing and walked up the ramp with the belt. <strong>(C / 63)</strong></p><p> </p><p> - Eddie Guerrero spoke about how people already seem to be forgetting that he has a guaranteed title shot whenever and wherever he wants thanks to his Money in the Bank briefcase. Eddie leaned into the ‘anywhere, anytime’ angle, saying that right now Owen Hart should be sleeping with both eyes open because who knows when he’ll come for him. He finished it off by saying that he’ll make an impression tonight and that when he’s done, nobody will be forgetting about Eddie Guerrero. <strong>(B- / 75)</strong></p><p> </p><p> 3. Both RAW and SmackDown’s tag team divisions are wide open following the draft and this was an opportunity for these two teams to stake their claim for a title shot. In the end it was The Franchise Players who picked up the win over The Bodydonnas, thanks in part to some underhandedness. Shane Douglas seemed to menace Sunny on the outside, Marcus Bagwell leaping down to help her. The distraction let Lance Storm roll Chris Candido up to steal the pinfall, much to the Bodydonna’s dismay. <strong>(B- / 76)</strong></p><p> </p><p> - The Million Dollar Corporation took to the ring as Ted DiBiase had a few words to say having been drafted to RAW. Flanked by Bam Bam Bigelow and Tatanka DiBiase said that it hasn’t been a great few years for his ‘investments’ here in the WWF and that sometimes when those investments fail, you’ve got to cut them loose, which is exactly what he’s doing now. Suddenly Bam Bam Bigelow attacked Tatanka, running through him and leaving him down and out in the ring. DiBiase said it was time to make some changes and since Tatanka wasn’t holding up his end of the deal, he was well and truly out. <strong>(C / 65)</strong></p><p> </p><p> - The Nation of Domination approached Harlem Heat backstage, saying that with they’re numbers depleted from the draft it’s important that “guys like us” stick together. Harlem Heat didn’t seem too impressed but reluctantly took Faarooq up on their offer to watch New Jack in action next. <strong>(B- / 74)</strong></p><p> </p><p> 4. New Jack went toe to toe with Diamond Dallas Page but might have taken the match a little too lightly. It took just four seconds for New Jack to get a pep talk from Faarooq before turning straight into a Diamond Cutter. Harlem Heat burst into laughter at the embarrassing moment as Diamond Dallas Page backed up the stage with a grin… <strong>(C+ / 70)</strong></p><p> </p><p> …right into Eddie Guerrero, who struck Diamond Dallas Page in the back of the head with his Money in the Bank briefcase. DDP hit the ramp immediately as Eddie held the briefcase over his head, having certainly made the impression he promised earlier tonight. <strong>(B / 81)</strong></p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="wqgw26H.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/wqgw26H.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><p> </p><p> <strong><span style="text-decoration:underline;">SPOTLIGHT SEGMENT</span></strong></p><p> </p><p> <img alt="5Uw0aWB.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/5Uw0aWB.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> The British Bulldog hit the ring, Davey Boy Smith having something to say. Davey Boy spoke about returning to the World Wrestling Federation nearly three years ago, but since then he hasn’t seen the kind of success that he had been hoping for. He’d come back to win titles and make moments, but he hasn’t done much of either. In fact he’s only had three title matches since returning in 1994 and he lost them all, all to the same man in fact - the current WWF World Champion, Owen Hart. Bulldog said that he needed to prove to himself that he has what it takes to be a champion in the WWF because if he doesn’t then what’s the point in him being here? Which is why right here, right now he was calling out Owen Hart!</p><p> </p><p> <img alt="Xa7o11Q.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/Xa7o11Q.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> Owen made his way down to the ring, acknowledging Davey Boy. Owen said that he and Bulldog go back a long way, both as friends and as opponents, and that he respects him and as far as he is concerned Bulldog doesn’t have anything to prove to anyone. Davey thanked him, but said it doesn’t matter what people think of him, it matters what he thinks of himself and he needs to do this, which is why right now he was officially challenging Owen Hart for the WWF World Heavyweight Championship! Owen didn’t hesitate to accept, saying that it’d be an honour to face Bulldog one more time for the title. The two men shook hands, the match officially being confirmed for Capital Carnage in just under three weeks time.</p><p> </p><p> <strong>RATING:</strong> A* (100)</p><p> </p><p> <img alt="wqgw26H.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/wqgw26H.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p> 5. The WWF European Championship was on the line as Rey Mysterio went toe to toe with Raven. Raven was flying solo here having been seperated from his Flock following the draft and he put up one hell of a fight against the smaller champion. Rey proved that size doesn’t matter however as he threw everything he had at Raven to try and retain the title. He did just that, however it wasn’t the way he probably wanted. With Rey taking control of the match Raven rolled to the outside. Mysterio went to dive through the ropes only for Raven to throw a steel chair into his head as he did so! Rey crumpled to the ground as the official called for the disqualification, Raven skulking away from ringside while the referee checked on an unconscious Mysterio. <strong>(B / 79)</strong></p><p> </p><p> - Backstage Steve Austin & Brian Pillman were seen going back and forth over what bar they should head out to tonight when they were interrupted by The Dudley Boyz, who couldn’t believe the two were talking about drinking when they weren’t even on the show tonight. They called Austin & Pillman pathetic, saying they didn’t deserve to hold the WWF Tag Team Championship and that maybe they should just hand them over to a team who actually deserved them. Austin & Pillman said they were welcome to try and take them and The Dudleyz promised to do exactly that… in their own time. <strong>(B+ / 88)</strong></p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="wqgw26H.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/wqgw26H.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><p> </p><p> <strong>THE MAIN EVENT!</strong></p><p> <img alt="FEuIsko.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/FEuIsko.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><strong>VS</strong> <img alt="zSBCnYR.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/zSBCnYR.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> <strong>SHAWN MICHAELS vs. KEVIN NASH</strong></p><p> </p><p> Two former best friends went toe to toe after the shocking events of last week. Shawn Michaels has gone against some of the best in the world but he clearly wasn’t at his best tonight, the emotions of this match getting the better of him as he was overly aggressive, giving Nash the opportunity to take control thanks to his strength and size advantage. Nash went for the Jackknife Powerbomb but Michaels dropped out the back, chopping the leg right out from under him. Michaels worked over the leg, attempting to cut Nash down to size but when he attempted a figure four Nash booted him away. The match continued with Michaels taking control, managing to batter Nash’s knee to the point he was struggling to stand. The Heartbreak Kid began tuning up the band in the corner, going for the Sweet Chin Music…</p><p> </p><p> <img alt="5f4f6cU.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/5f4f6cU.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> ...only for Scott Hall to nail him with a vicious steel chair shot, causing the disqualification!</p><p> </p><p> <strong>WINNER:</strong> Shawn Michaels</p><p> <strong>RATING:</strong> B+ (83)</p><p> </p><p> The attack continued after the match as Hall hit the downed Michaels with a second chair shot, then a third. Kevin Nash, furious at nearly being defeated, directed traffic as he instructed Hall to lift Michaels up, Nash taking the chair. Nash was about to go for Michaels with the chair when…</p><p> </p><p> <img alt="hpDijOp.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/hpDijOp.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> Syxx appeared from behind him, grabbing the chair right out of his hands! Syxx swung the chair at Nash, narrowly missing as the big man dropped to the mat, quickly rolling out of the ring. Hall followed suit as the duo hightailed it up the ramp, shocked at this turn of events. Syxx, the other former member of The Kliq on the RAW brand, has picked his side, coming to the aid of Shawn Michaels when he needed it most, and it looks like the war between these former friends is only just beginning.</p><p> </p><p> <strong>RATING:</strong> B+ (86)</p><p> </p><p> <img alt="wqgw26H.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/wqgw26H.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> <strong>SHOW RATING:</strong> B+ (87)</p></div><p></p><p></p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="P9iChYi.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/P9iChYi.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><p> <strong>WWF RAW is WAR, April 1997, Week Two</strong></p><p> Attendance: 14,502 at New Orleans Arena</p><p> <strong>Commentary Team: Jim Ross & Jerry Lawler</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="45418" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div> 1. In a short but sweet squash match, Aja Kong defeated Debbie Combs with a devestating Spinning Backfist. <strong>(C- / 54)</strong></p><p> </p><p> - The Bodydonna’s, with the always delightful Sunny, cut a promo on their loss to the Franchise Players, promising that they won’t let it lie and will be looking to get some payback on RAW. <strong>(B / 78)</strong></p><p> </p><p> 3. Considering the bad reputation he’s got, mostly from people who don’t know him or who go on the wrong side of him, my dad is nothing if not patient. I’ve seen it plenty of times in the way he deals with people, the number of guys in the back he’s helped with… substance issues, let’s say. If you listen to the stories then the moment you piss off Vince McMahon you’re out the door, never to be seen again, but come on, you really think the World Wrestling Federation would ever have gotten as successful as it had if he just fired every single guy he didn’t like? I’ll tell you now, half the guys people love to watch wouldn’t have got close to a title if that was the case.</div></div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</div></div></div></div></div><img alt="N49f791.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/N49f791.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Of course we’d heard the rumours before we hired him, and it didn’t take long for us to experience it first hand. Everyone told us New Jack was a problem, a nasty piece of work who didn’t get on well with others, but you learn pretty early on that you can’t run a business or book a show with rumours. Vince knew it too, so he was happy to give the guy a chance. Turns out New Jack was just as big a problem as everyone made him out to be, so it was no surprise that he picked a fight with Diamond Dallas Page before that show. Couldn’t even tell you what it was about, Page said they were backstage talking about their match and before he knew it the guy was trying to lay into him. No damage done, physically at least, but the boys in the locker room were not happy.</div></div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Honestly I thought that’d be the end of him, one step too far, but Vince took Page aside first and spoke to him, think he basically said that if he wanted New Jack gone for it then it was fine, he’d be gone, but DDP’s a nice guy, he wasn’t going to tell him to fire him. So instead Vince suspended him for a month, though not before he sent him out there to lose to Page in four seconds, made him look like a chump. You ask me? I’d have gotten rid of him, but New Jack surprised everybody and took the whole thing in stride, apologised to Vince, Page and the locker room. Maybe he’d come back with a better attitude… maybe.</div></div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

SmackDown opened with some technical action as WWF Intercontinental Champion William Regal put his British technician style to the test against the one man who might just be able to outwrestle him Dean Malenko. It looked like that might just be the case as Malenko had Regal’s back against the wall until Regal pushed him into the official before clocking him right in the jaw with a pair of brass knuckles he pulled from his tights! Regal stole the victory and advanced to the quarter-finals of the WWF Global Championship tournament in the process. <strong>(B / 78)</strong><p> </p><p> - Todd Pettengill caught up with Rob Van Dam to get a few words ahead of what has to be considered the biggest match of his career so far against Bret Hart. Van Dam said that the brand split has opened up a lot of opportunities for guys like him and he intends to grab this one tonight by beating Bret Hart and proving that the WWE’s new generation is ready to step up. <strong>(B / 79)</strong></p><p> </p><p> - In the parking lot a limo pulled up, Triple H, the New Age Outlaws and Chyna stepping out of it. The group, who dubbed themselves D-Generation X last week, quickly ran into Roddy Piper, who was furious that they were turning up late. Triple H told him to chill out because they didn’t care what he had to say, D-Generation X do what they want, when they want, and if you don’t like it then you can suck it! <strong>(B- / 72)</strong></p><p> </p><p> 2. The Samoan Studs might have thought they’d have an easy time against youngsters Chris Harris & James Storm, but the two rookies put up a solid fight, surprising Ekmo & Kimo. Unfortunately for them they’ve not quite hit the point where they could be considered serious contenders and The Samoan Studs put them down with dual Samoan Drops. <strong>(C- / 57)</strong></p><p> </p><p> - Paul Heyman gave a passionate speech to the members of Extreme Rising about how how if they have the WWF Global Championship then they’ll have the whole show in the palm of their hand to squeeze the life out of it. Heyman told Taz that tonight he needs to prove that Randy Savage is everything that’s wrong with the WWF… by choking the life out of him. <strong>(C / 61)</strong></p><p> </p><p> - A video promo aired in which The Undertaker sent a warning to Sting. He chose to attack him at WrestleMania, a night that belongs to the Deadman, and he will suffer the consequences. “You can’t hide from me forever Sting, and when you finally choose to face me like a man I will make you rest… in… peace.” <strong>(B / 81)</strong></p><p> </p><p> 3. In the second of tonight’s Global Championship tournament matches Goldust attempted to ride his recent wave of momentum against a man many consider a potential favourite for this tournament, The Rock. The Rock was seemingly without his recent allies Edge & Christian during this match but it didn’t alter the result as Rocky moved onto the quarter-finals with the Rock Bottom / People’s Elbow combo. <strong>(B / 80)</strong></p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="wqgw26H.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/wqgw26H.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><p> </p><p> <strong><span style="text-decoration:underline;">SPOTLIGHT SEGMENT</span></strong></p><p> </p><p> <img alt="XQCOTPB.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/XQCOTPB.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="TkdmmrC.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/TkdmmrC.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> The match was over, and The Rock was happy to take his time celebrating. He might have taken a little bit too long however as he turned around right into a tackle by Chris Jericho! Jericho was gunning for revenge as he unloaded on Rocky with right hands but as it turned out The Rock wasn’t as alone as it first seemed.</p><p> </p><p> <img alt="vfB8Cf2.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/vfB8Cf2.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="ShfXxKE.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/ShfXxKE.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> Edge & Christian made their presence felt as they hit the ring, dragging Jericho off of Rock, throwing him into the corner and putting the boots to him. Jericho fought back and actually seemed to be getting the better of the exchange until Edge hit him with a vicious Spear! The Rock directed traffic, sending Edge & Christian to get two steel chairs and dragging Jericho up for the conchairto…</p><p> </p><p> <img alt="hgN8wkM.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/hgN8wkM.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="NKikPoE.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/NKikPoE.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> But aid came in the form of Matt & Jeff, the Hardy Boyz! The Hardyz have had their issues with Edge & Christian and weren’t going to sit around and watch them crush Jericho’s skull between two steel chairs. The Hardyz ducked under dual chair swings and hit both Edge & Christian with dropkicks that sent the chairs bouncing back off their faces. The Rock, Edge & Christian quickly bailed, the WWF Intercontinental Tag Team Champions nursing their wounds, while The Hardy Boyz helped Chris Jericho to his feet.</p><p> </p><p> <strong>RATING:</strong> B (81)</p><p> </p><p> <img alt="wqgw26H.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/wqgw26H.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p> - Marlena looked set to get a few words from WWF Cruiserweight Champion Jushin ‘Thunder’ Liger when the interview was crashed by Jerry Lynn! Lynn told Marlena that she was wasting her time talking to this charisma black hole, she should be paying attention to the next face of the Cruiserweight division, Jerry Lynn. Lynn warned Liger that soon he’d be taking that title from him, and that there’s nothing he can do about it. “Get that through that ridiculous mask of yours and into your head of yours, alright? That title, it’s gonna be mine.” Liger let Lynn talk, considered what he had to say, and just walked off, which just riled Lynn up even more! <strong>(C / 64)</strong></p><p> </p><p> 4. Randy Savage returned to the World Wrestling Federation in the hope of revitalising his career, and Roddy Piper made a point that he’d give him that opportunity when he drafted him to SmackDown. The WWF Global Championship tournament is as good a opportunity as any, but it almost came to a screeching halt when he faced off against Taz. The Extreme Rising member proved to be a serious threat and would likely have won the match if he could have just locked on the Tazmission, but Savage managed to avoid the choke and eventually finished Taz off with the Elbow Drop to keep his dreams of being a champion once again alive. <strong>(B / 80)</strong></p><p> </p><p> - Randy Savage was recovering in the ring when the unfamiliar music of D-Generation X hit! The new group hit the ring, disrespectfully telling Randy Savage to “get lost old man, let us show you how it’s done nowadays.” The Outlaws and Triple H mocked Savage, pretending to walk around like an old man, until the Macho Man stormed out of the ring, knowing he was outnumbered and that a fight wouldn’t go in his favour. <strong>(B- / 76)</strong></p><p> </p><p> 5. The unusual tandem of Rick Steiner & Savio Vega attempted to spoil D-Generation X’s night as they took on the New Age Outlaws, but it was Chris Benoit who surprisingly proved the difference maker in this match. For whatever reason Benoit yanked Rick Steiner off of the ring apron while the official was busy arguing with Triple H (D-Generation X seemingly aren’t all that interested in fighting fair) and threw him into the security barricade. Without a partner it didn’t take long for Savio Vega to fall victim to the Fameasser as the Outlaws walked out with an undeserved victory. <strong>(B- / 76)</strong></p><p> </p><p> - The match won, D-Generation X were more than happy to taunt Savio Vega & Rick Steiner, Triple H repeatedly putting his boot in Vega’s face in a sign of disrespect. Suddenly Adam Clarke emerged from the back wielding a steel chair! Clarke charged the ring, swinging the chair wildly, not caring which member of DX he hit as long as he got one of them. Unfortunately for him the quartet bailed from the ring before any damage could be done, Clarke raging as he missed out on an opportunity at payback here tonight. <strong>(B / 78)</strong></p><p> </p><p> - Another vignette aired for the towel clad Val Venis. This time he was stood behind a camera perched on a tripod. “You know, this isn’t the only tripod around here”. Venis chuckled to himself, then said that he’s done some of his best work in front of the camera, and he was happy to keep up his “high performance” when he comes to SmackDown very shortly. “But for now, daddy’s got some work to do.” Venis winked and then began to remove his towel as he stepped onto the other side of the camera, the screen immediately steaming up. <strong>(D- / 39)</strong></p><p> </p><p> - Marlena managed to catch up to Chris Benoit backstage, asking him why he just attacked Rick Steiner for no apparent reason. “No reason? Last week he stuck his nose in my business, he insulted me, and now I’m gonna show him what happens when you get involved in my business.” <strong>(C+ / 66)</strong></p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="wqgw26H.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/wqgw26H.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><p> </p><p> <strong>THE MAIN EVENT!</strong></p><p> <img alt="dMyoVG2.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/dMyoVG2.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><strong>VS</strong> <img alt="2lyX0Mt.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/2lyX0Mt.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> <strong>WWF GLOBAL CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT FIRST ROUND</strong></p><p><strong> BRET HART vs. ROB VAN DAM</strong></p><p> </p><p> It was the biggest match of young Rob Van Dam’s career as he took on multi-time WWF World Champion Bret Hart, but this is a new show and if there ever was an opportunity for Van Dam to pick up a career-making win it was here in the first round of the tournament. Bret was intent to do everything to stop that from happening but found himself with his back to the wall thanks to Van Dam’s dangerous strikes and high-risk offence. Eventually Bret found an opening and began working over Rob’s leg, reducing his motion. The result meant that Van Dam’s offence was severely limited as Bret knew exactly what he was doing, viciously working over the leg , including driving it into the turnbuckle over and over.</p><p> </p><p> This certainly wasn’t the Bret Hart the WWF fans used to love as he was meticulous in his assault. Van Dam fought back as best he could and even clocked Bret with a massive kick that might have hurt his leg as much as Hart’s jaw. Van Dam attempted to go up top but his leg quickly gave way and Hart capitalised, grabbing him from the turnbuckle, dropping him with a DDT and then locking in the Sharpshooter. Van Dam held on as long as he could but the damage was done and he had no choice but to tap out. Van Dam had fought with heart and impressed the entire crowd but tonight was Bret Hart’s night, and if his performance and attitude are anything to go by then it might just be his tournament as well.</p><p> </p><p> <strong>WINNER:</strong> Bret Hart</p><p> <strong>RATING:</strong> B+ (84)</p><p> </p><p> <img alt="wqgw26H.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/wqgw26H.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> <strong>SHOW RATING:</strong> B / 82</p></div><p></p><p></p></div></blockquote>
