As the bell rang and referee Joey Marella signaled for the bout to officially begin, Savage gestured his finger wildly at George who bobbed around the ring with his waving his arms over his head before charging Savage, who quickly jumped to the floor. Savage grabbed Elizabeth by the arm and yanked his Intercontinental Title away from the timekeeper and immediately headed up the aisle. McMahon decried Savage’s retreat as an act of cowardice but Ventura noted it was the champion’s advantage and surefire way to retain his title.</p><p> </p><p> As it turned out, Savage couldn’t get very far up before being greeted by none other than...</p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="VQHogiT.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/VQHogiT.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p> ...Ricky Steamboat! Not wanting an encounter with The Dragon ahead of their WrestleMania bout, Savage had no choice but turn back and face The Animal as Steamboat stayed ringside (leaving Jesse to wonder why the referee was allowing this: Steamboat didn’t have a manager’s license!). </p><p> </p><p> As Savage reentered the ring, George quickly clubbed him with punches and forearm shots. Steele backed the “Macho Man” into a corner and began biting him on the forehead (again to the disgust of Ventura on commentary). The tide turned as Steele turned his attention to one of the corner turnbuckle pads, trying to undo it’s strings and remove the stuffing. Savage seized the opportunity to deliver a flying knee that knocked George to the floor at a concerned Elizabeth’s feet! Savage followed up by dropping a flying ax-handle from the top rope the floor. As George lay in a crumpled heap on the floor, Savage gestured to Steamboat with a cutting motion across his neck. The Intercontinental champ proceeded to to grab the ringbell, shading of the Steamboat throat injury once again. Steamboat quickly ripped the bell from Savage’s hands and the two began a shoving match that saw Savage spit in the face of Steamboat!</p><p> </p><p> The distraction was enough for George to regain his composure and begin to pummel Savage all round the ring. Steele threw the champ back into the ring and resumed removing the stuffing from the turnbuckle. Steele pie faced Savage with the foam before Savage quickly recovered and rammed Steele’s head into the now exposed turnbuckle dazing the Animal. Savage followed up with a scoop slam and it was academic from there, the patented elbow drop and the pinfall. Savage headed to the back, title firmly secured for WrestleMania as Steamboat checked on his fallen friend.</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Winner: Randy Savage via pinfall</strong></p><p><strong> Time: 9:59</strong></p><p><strong> Grade: B</strong></p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="45510" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong>Interview</strong></p><p><strong> </strong></p><p><strong> </strong><img alt="0UMFzM4.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/0UMFzM4.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="dWXvKfP.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/dWXvKfP.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p></div><p></p><p> “Mean” Gene was backstage with the Hulkster next. Okerlund prompted Hogan with how he was feeling heading into this battle royal just weeks away from the big encountered with Andre the Giant at WrestleMania III. Hogan said he knew he has to watch his “back, jack and that there’d be 24 other guys gunning for him”….”but all the training, the vitamins, the prayers--they’ve all been building to this, dude. Hulk Hogan and Andre the Giant.” Hogan went on to say that Andre only ever needed to ask for a title shot and he’d have it--Hogan looked up to the Andre. Business picked up out of the gate as Andre blocked Hogan from entering the ring as the other 23 competitors looked on with nervous tension. After a moment Andre decided to the let the champ come in, gesturing to “come and get it.”</p><p> </p><p> As Hogan entered the ring, a full on ruckus quickly erupted with Hogan slinging fists on one end of the ring as Andre reigned headbutts and forearms on the other. The bodies began piling up on the outside as both Rougeaus, Lanny Poffo, The Crusher and Jim Powers all made early exits. </p><p> </p><p> Andre had an impressive show, dumping both Koko Ware and Butch Reed who were entangled, followed by Ron Bass and Paul Roma. Hogan, for his part, made short work of the Honky Tonk Man, Dino Bravo and The Iron Sheik. Brutus Beefcake was struggling with Pedo Morales only to find himself dumped by his own partner, Greg Valentine (causing Ventura to remark that “there are no partners in a battle royal, McMahon!”). </p><p> </p><p> After a few more minutes of intense brawling, we were down to the final four: Hogan, Andre, the powerhouse Hercules and the wily veteran, “Cowboy” Bob Orton Jr. Hogan found himself outnumbered and after shrugging off attacks by both Orton and Hercules, the champ brought it to the giant in a moment that had the crowd on the edge of their seat. Hogan hammered Andre who stumbled back toward the ropes. Andre slunk down and soon found himself trapped between the middle and top rope. Orton ambushed Hogan, a mistake he would soon regret as the Hulkster soon sent the Cowboy hurtling over the top rope. Hercules struck next, hammering Hogan with an ax handle. Hercules kept on a for a few more minutes, trying to force the champion over the top. Hulk was able to fend off the big man’s attacks and helped himself to a handful of trunks trying to heave Herc over and out. </p><p> </p><p> In the meantime, Andre had freed himself from his predicament in the ropes and lumbered over to Hogan and Hercules, dumping both men to the floor to be the last man standing and the winner of the battle royal. </p><p> </p><p> <strong>Winner: Andre the Giant</strong></p><p><strong> Time: 20:18</strong></p><p><strong> Grade: B-</strong></p><p><strong> </strong></p><p><strong> </strong></p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong>Post Match:</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p> A frustrated Hulk slapped the apron as Andre leaned over the top rope wagging his finger at Hogan, no doubt taunting him. It’ll just be you and the giant--mano a mano. 15 years undefeated and, by god, he’ll remain undefeated at WrestleMania when he becomes the next Heavyweight Champion of the World!”</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Grade: A</strong></p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="45510" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><a href="https://imgur.com/fEEGyYB" rel="external nofollow"><span>http://i.imgur.com/fEEGyYB.jpg</span></a><strong> vs. </strong><img alt="X04D429.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/X04D429.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="KMDJurEs.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/KMDJurEs.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><p><strong> Jake "the Snake" Roberts vs. "Mr. Wonderful" Paul Orndorff w/ Bobby Heenan</strong></p></div><p></p><p> </p><p> Heenan was back out to accompany Paul Orndorff for the next match, still clearly riding high from Andre’s victory. When Orndorff’s opponent, Jake Roberts (and Damien) came out, the Oracle Arena gave a resounding cheer of support. It took seemingly several minutes for this one to really get started as Orndorff used a lot of stalling tactics and playing to the crowd before anything happened. McMahon questioned whether Orndorff was perhaps afraid of Damien while Ventura quipped that Orndorff “was employing a psychological tactic” (...”not that you’d know McMahon, you never laced a pair of boots…”). </p><p> </p><p> Eventually the two locked up and had a pretty even exchange before Heenan tripped Roberts allowing Orndorff to take control. As Orndorff locked in a rest hold and barked at the crowd, Roberts banged his foot against the mat keeping the fans firmly behind him. Roberts willed himself back into the match and began fighting Orndorff back with his signature inverted atomic drop and snapping jabs. </p><p> </p><p> Heenan, sensing the changing of the tide, climbed atop the apron and catcalled at Roberts. Jake grabbed the Weasel by the shirt and wagged his finger in his face in warning. Orndorff meanwhile recovered and seized Roberts from behind, holding him ready for Heenan to cheap shot. Roberts was a half-step too quick however and escaped just in time for Heenan’s wild blow to strike Orndorff square in the face! Roberts knocked Heenan to the floor before driving Mr. Wonderful down to the mat headfirst with his signature DDT and the assured victory.</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Winner: Jake Roberts via pinfall</strong></p><p><strong> Time: 16:06</strong></p><p><strong> Grade: B-</strong></p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="45510" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong>Interview/Video</strong></p><p><strong> </strong></p><p><strong> </strong><img alt="0UMFzM4.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/0UMFzM4.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="EPIb41P.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/EPIb41P.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p></div><p></p><p> Once again we joined Gene Okerlund backstage, this time with the one and only “Rowdy” Roddy Piper. The Oakland area faithful who packed the Oracle Arena were clearly Roddy Piper fans as the boo’s descended down on Adonis. The jeers quickly became jeers as Ricky Steamboat came out to a thunderous ovation. McMahon was quick to note that Randy Savage was barred from the arena following his match with George Steele to prevent further confrontation between the two WrestleMania combatants. </p><p> </p><p> After a few uncertain moments, the two locked up and exchanged holds that saw Steamboat use the ropes for a break. Adonis gave the clean break which he then followed up by blowing The Dragon a kiss. Steamboat retorted with a slap across the face which brought a big crowd reaction. Steamboat continued on the offensive here for several minutes before Hart used his megaphone to instruct Adonis to come the floor and take a powder, which is exactly what Adonis did. </p><p> </p><p> Adonis slowed the bout down again, pulling Steamboat’s hair to gain the advantage. Steamboat again willed himself back into the bout, reversing Adonis’ attempt to piledrive him with a back body drop. Steamboat climbed the top turnbuckle to splash down on the adorable one, but Adonis countered by raising his knees. </p><p> </p><p> With the match in his control, Adonis began to signal he intended to put Steamboat to sleep with his sleeperhold, “Goodnight Irene.” Adonis locked it on and Steamboat fought for as long as he could, but being the center of the ring, The Dragon had nowhere to go. As Steamboat faded, Adonis released the hold instead of going for the assured victory. Adonis began to strut around the ring signaling he intended to cut Steamboat’s hair! Jimmy Hart produced a pair of cutting shears and handed them to Adonis despite the referee’s protests. </p><p> </p><p> Adonis showboat for too long however! As he leaned in to Steamboat to being clipping, the Dragon sprang back to life recovering with a series of karate chops that send Adonis right out the ring! Adonis barked at Jimmy Hart and took his cutting shears and began heading to the back...totally satisfied with the countout defeat. Prediction Game Standings:

NuIzYsm.jpg

RingRider was the only person to guess that the MotN would be Savage and George Steele (hell, I didn't predict it either!)...so that puts Rider in the lead. That said, it's very much anyone's game going into WrestleMania. At the moment, I'm considering the game over at WrestleMania with eyes on something after that.

Other Musings:

--SNME Reaction

NBC was pissed that SNME only scored a "B." There's a few problems on why I'm in this bout however... I ran the show in PrimeTime knowing full well that my Main Event wasn't strong enough to carry my show...especially with booking that crappy countout finish for Adonis/Steamboat. (Again, my fault as I wanted to keep both guys strong).

--News/Observers Style Posts, Etc.

So I decided I'm not going to do any Observer style posts or really any news stories on this project. I am laser focused on keeping the stories and the shows presented and I don't really feel the need to do much else than capture the WWF product of the time period and have some fun with the stories I want to tell.

That said, I will probably be doing more OOC posts about backstage happenings, signings, news from the world abroad, etc. If there's anything anyone wants to know about specifically, by all means ask!

--Taking Over JCP/Crappy AI Competition

It was suggested a few pages back (I feel like more than once?) that maybe I should consider taking over the booking of JCP to keep AI around as a serious contender. Many of my favorite diary writers (looking at you Beejus and to4sty) I know play as their own competition...but I'm just not that interested in that right now to be honest. As I said, I am laser focused on simply presenting the kayfabe style and I'm okay with that.

--Duggan/JYD/George Steele/Etc.

I'm loving the comments you guys are giving about these guys. I know they aren't the classic workers we diehards all love, but these characters are *essential* the WWF product of the era. (Best Vince voice...) "Ha! We make movies here, pal!"

--Roster Turnover Post WM3

I really am looking at WM3 as a chance to hit the reset button. I will be letting a slew of "dead weight" talent go and will be signing up a handful of new names and looking at a full reset. One of my other goals in this game is to keep many of my talents on relatively short-term contracts and letting them walk away when their time is up. I really want to micro-manage the roster size and keep only guys who have plans for on the roster.

I suppose I should have seen Savage/Steele coming as MOTN, as "Macho Man" was simply on fire in 1987 and George is very carryable.

The main event for PTW should be huge with that eight man tag!

A lot of people are calling for an Orndorff turn, but I'd almost rather see you not go that route. Of course if you do go that direction, I won't be upset, but it's almost a cliche to have "Mr. Wonderful" turn face at the beginning of a 1987 diary by now. If it comes down it, sure he could leave the Family, but Orndorff is a much better heel than face, so leaving him that way is a better way to get the most out of him at this last few years of his career.

<p>Koko B. Ware vs. Butch Reed w/Slick</p><p>

-SE Finish--these two have a date at WM as I recall</p><p> </p><p>

Danny Spivey vs. <strong>"Mr. Wonderful" Paul Orndorff</strong> w/Bobby Heenan</p><p>

-Seems like trouble brewing between Heenan and Orndorff, but the distance between these 2 is too big for Spivey to get the win. That said, I would love to see you get behind Spivey.</p><p> </p><p>

The tag experience and fire led to the face team coming out strong in the early goings of the bout. <em>Is there anyone that’s not a big fan of the winged eagle belt? The fact that we have had the “Classic” Intercontinental Title back for quite some years now, and yet they keep churning out hideous World Titles frankly depresses me....especially when they do those occasional “current stars with old belts” photo shoots and you see how damn good that Winged Eagle would still look today......incidentally, stop being so god damn bright and busy too WWE....I tried to watch Raw the other day and there’s 6000 bright flashing video screens, 30 camera shots a minute and just an over exposure of colour everywhere, gave me a damn headache and I had to turn it off.....sweet Jesus I’m getting old</em></p>

<em>Honestly, that "winged eagle" belt is amazing! It's my 2nd favorite belt, right next to the Big Gold belt. It's cool to see you bring it on in for this dynasty.</em></p>

<p>I definitely have no issues with bringing the winged eagle right into the fray instead of waiting until next year for it. My only pet peeve is when the diary <em>starts</em> with the wrong belt, from there go on and change anything <img alt=":p" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/tongue.png.ceb643b2956793497cef30b0e944be28.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p>

British Bulldogs - <em>An easy win for the Bulldogs, but I do expect them to be on their way down in the future as more teams (with less negative personalities) come into the mix.</em></p><p>

Heel team - <em>Midget Mayhem! Short Shenanigans! Can't wait to see the rowboat move!</em></p><p>

Honky Tonk Man - <em>This feels like it should be a poetry vs. music jam rather than a wrestling match.</em></p><p>

Harley Race - <em>Easy pickings for the Handsome King.</em></p><p>

Demolition</p><p>

Ricky Steamboat - <em>Hopefully Sheik plays nice and isn't wasted during this one or else Ricky may be going into Mania with a morale hit.</em></p><p> </p><p>

Chico Santana</p><p>

Sika</p><p>

JYD</p><p>

Dream Team - <em>Man, tag team wrestling was so awesome in the 80s.</em></p>

I have it all booked and expect to run it today and outline it out. I have Prime Time almost ready to post today, and Superstars and Challenge to follow shortly after... </p><p> </p><p> As far as life after Mania--the possibilities are endless. I have a lot of ideas of stories to tell, but haven't committed to anything quite yet. (Full Disclosure, I copied the Adrian Adonis one from a real poem Poffo did around this time but the Honky poem was an original work).</p><p> </p><p> Anyway, as I said, I should have Prime Time (which, may I add, I particularly proud of my Monsoon/Heenan banter this time...) and cards for Superstars and Challenge up later today. <img alt=":)" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/smile.png.142cfa0a1cd2925c0463c1d00f499df2.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p>
