Double K vs Diazawa

Tag team action to start the show and a predictable loss for the young lion pairing of Diazawa, though it did come with another spectacular performance from Logan Diaz, to the point where fans and media have begun regarding him as Motoyuki Miyake's successor for the title of BCG's hottest young lion prospect.

In a bout that had great wrestling and a decent reaction from the crowd, Double K defeated Diazawa in 9:37 when Gidayu Katou defeated YL Masao Takizawa by pinfall with a Lariat.

Muscle Blasters & Shuzo Utagawa vs Partnership of Pain & Eikichi Itou

The presence of twin towers Brody and Matsushita made their team heavy favourite, but it was Itou that proved to be the weak link and ended up costing them the match, falling to Blast Ikoma and his devastating finisher after a strong showing from all six workers involved in this match.

In a decent match, Shuzo Utagawa and Muscle Blasters defeated Eikichi Itou and Partnership Of Pain in 9:39 when Blast Ikoma defeated Eikichi Itou by pinfall with a Northern Lights Bomb.

Funakoshi & Tanaka vs Harker & Hadley

Revisiting their match earlier this month at RISE, the two teams clashed once more in an equally solid bout that also had the same result, although this time it was Harker who scored the pin over Tanaka.

In a bout that had good wrestling and a decent reaction from the crowd, Harker & Hadley defeated Funakoshi & Tanaka in 14:16 when Animal Harker defeated Jotaro Tanaka by pinfall with a Stump Piledriver.

Bunrakuken Torii, Motoyuki Miyake & Kyuichi Matsumoto vs Pavel Vanzycha, Threepwood & Goto

With both the tag team champions and the holder of the BCG Challengers Series in this match, there was a good chance of earning a title shot for anyone who could pin them in this match and that fact added an extra layer of urgency to the bout. However, it was Matsumoto who tapped out to Vanzycha's Cross Armlock, perhaps a lackluster finish to an otherwise great match all around.

In a bout that had great wrestling and good heat, Pavel Vanzycha and Threepwood & Goto defeated Bunrakuken Torii, Motoyuki Miyake and Kyuichi Matsumoto in 15:50 when Pavel Vanzycha defeated Kyuichi Matsumoto by submission with a Cross Armlock.

BCG World title match

Yoshinaka Taku © vs Ray Snow

After defeating Torii and Funakoshi in a three way match last month at Generations, Ray Snow found himself in the main event for a shot at Yoshi Taku's BCG World title. His sharpened skills after touring with PGHW were on display, but Taku isn't champion by accident and he fought back, pushing this dramatic contest past the twenty minute mark. Tension and drama built up slowly and in the final sequence, Taku hit the second Full Nelson Bomb of the match, after the first one had only gotten him a two count, to retain.

In a bout that had superb wrestling and good heat, Yoshinaka Taku defeated Ray Snow in 21:07 by pinfall with a Full Nelson Bomb. Yoshinaka Taku makes defence number 2 of his BCG World title.

"Son? What are you thinking about?"

NM77ZC7.jpg5bss42b.jpg

His father's words snapped Yoshinaka Taku out of whatever funk he had drifted into. He glanced at the faces gathered around their dinner table. Other than his mother, the only non-family members were his father's two proteges.

0KbhnYq.jpg

Nobuhiko Serizawa was every bit as serious as he usually was in the ring or around the locker room. It wasn't just the gravitas of the occasion, it was his everyday character, whether performing in front of the audience or living his life away from the business. On the plate in front of him were carefully selected and placed pieces of sashimi. His glass contained only water. He took his diet as seriously as he took his workout routine and his body was a testament to that devotion, earning him the nickname of MUSCLE Serizawa.

s3iDU4W.jpg

Kimi Kawano was as much of an odd sight in this table as he was in the ring. His face had that permanent scowl on it; his body was covered in scars and tattoos to the point where you could assume he was a foot soldier for the yakuza. An outcast and a misfit through and through, it was no wonder he'd found a home in Ryu Kajahara's garbage promotion of Warrior Engine XXV. Somehow his father took a shine to him and took him under his wing a couple of years ago, when Kawano and Battle Sakata toured with Black Canvas for the TagMania tournament. Maybe ol' Toshi thought he could straighten this man out. Make him a proper wrestler.

"You're probably wondering why I've gathered you all here tonight over dinner..." Toshinobu Taku began, glass in hand. "First of all, because I always wanted to say that line..."

The group giggled. His mother less so than everyone else, Yoshinaka noticed.

"I spoke to my fellow old timer, Masayuki Shiga, on the phone before calling you" Toshi Taku continued. ""It seems we've both made up our minds at the same time, we're hanging up the boots and I wanted you let you know first before we go public."

Serizawa looked shocked. Yoshinaka more or less knew it was coming since his dad stopped working for Black Canvas. Kawano's expression hadn't changed one bit from that permanent scowl on his face. You could probably tell him his mom died in the tsunami and he wouldn't move a muscle still.

"Taku-sama" Serizawa spoke, but only after he was sure his mentor was done talking. "Surely you can delay this a little more? TagMania is coming up and I'm sure everyone would love to see Team Taku reunited for one last time. Think of it as your farewell tour."

"That's not your decision to make" Toshinobu replied, badly faking wisdom in the tone of his voice. "They haven't called me and they probably won't. I said my goodbyes at the Lion's Roar. I'm not taking it back and there's no way TagMania is going to be bigger. Besides, I'd only be stinking up that ring anyhow. I'm old, I'm rusty and the bar is insanely high thanks to youngsters like you. My contacts at Golden Canvas tell me Kudo's got the company in debt and it doesn't look like they can turn it around. Maeda would love nothing more than to buy back the rights to the Golden Lion and win his war. When that happens, you'll have the GCG roster in your locker room as well. No room for old lions like me."

"The bigger they are, the harder they fall" Kawano interrupted. "Burning Hammer have been doing so bad, they fired Kaneko and re-hired Komine in hopes he can restore them to glory. How ironic is that?" Yoshinaka almost had the mental image of Kawano throwing up a middle finger in his mind. He would never be good enough for the likes of PGHW, Burning Hammer or Golden Canvas even, so he enjoyed their downfall. Probably another reason why he was a perfect fit for Kajahara's counter culture circus.

"It is a time of change, for sure" Toshinobu replied. "And as I look back, I am proud of what I see. I've had a good career. I've had the honour of seeing my son enter the business. I wrestled next to him, winning gold more than once. But I'm even prouder as I look forward. Black Canvas is about to prove its point and win the war, with my son leading the charge as its world champion. It is the best retirement gift I could hope for. So tonight, it is really a passing of the torch. I want us to celebrate my past achievements as much as we celebrate my son and his future achievements."

They raised their glasses and drank to the toast. Yoshinaka couldn't help but question how glad his father's guests really were though...

</strong><strong><span style="font-size:14px;">Tag Trouble for Black Canvas</span></strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

BCG's latest RISE show was a resounding success, nearly filling the 5.000 seat Yamanashi Athletic Stadium in Chubu for what is essentially a secondary monthly show for the promotion, however Maeda and Yoshizawa had little time to savour their victory as tragedy struck twice, ironically just before their upcoming TagMania tournament. Rokuemon Matsushita was reported to have hurt his wrist delivering his finisher during his RISE opening match and according to doctors, will not be fully recovered until after the tournament show. This means that neither him, nor Giant Brody will be participating in this year's tournament, a heavy blow for the former BCG World Tag Team champions. On top of that, negotiations to bring in former WEXXV stars The Berzerkers fell through, as Tatsukichi Shichirobei signed an exclusive deal with Pride Glory Honor Wrestling just days after he and Toyokuni Hardcore were contacted by BCG officials.</p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="fv4Kbba.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/fv4Kbba.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="7r4IhRT.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/7r4IhRT.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="VJW2a92.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/VJW2a92.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="Alr2tZu.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/Alr2tZu.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><p>

<strong><span style="font-size:14px;">Blast from the Past</span></strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

Black Canvas Grappling has never been shy about honoring traditions and looking to the past as well as the future, so their response to the removal of both the Partnership of Pain and the Berzerkers from the TagMania tournament should make absolute sense. Former participants Dean Waldorf and Marv Statler have been confirmed to be making a return for the tournament, as has the unlikely duo of Yoshisada Matsuzawa and Omezo Shikitei. Both former members of the BCG roster and partners in the tournament exactly two years ago, Matsuzawa and Shikitei left shortly after to join Golden Canvas Grappling. When the promotion recently released several of its workers citing financial limitations, Matsuzawa and Shikitei were among those who were cut and it will be interesting to see how the BCG fans will receive them, as well as whether their tournament return could evolve into a more permanent connection with the company.</p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="POBEZKK.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/POBEZKK.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><p>

<strong><span style="font-size:14px;">Demolished no more</span></strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

TagMania will also see the return from injury of reigning BCG National champion, Bulldozer Brandon Smith. Following a long absence, Smith will be teaming up once again with Animal Harker as American Demolition Mk.II to enter the tournament and it will be interesting to see if his absence has caused him any ring rust, as well as whether his injury will be giving him any issues due to lingering effects. Opponents are sure to target his injured back, but Smith has shown resiliency during his entire career and now is once more back on the warpath to win the tournament once again like he did two years ago next to Big Bruiser Findlay, this time with Harker as his partner.</p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="7VXjYUs.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/7VXjYUs.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="NM77ZC7.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/NM77ZC7.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><p>

<strong><span style="font-size:14px;">Changing of the Guard</span></strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

Masayuki Shiga and Toshinobu Taku both announced their upcoming retirement from in-ring action and immediately rumors sprang about them making one last return to Black Canvas Grappling for the Yoshifusa Maeda Grand Prix and TagMania tournaments respectively. Although both men have openly denied such rumors, they are said to still have a good relationship with the promotion and several of their proteges currently employed by it, a fact that was confirmed by a BCG announcement that both men will be introduced to its Hall of Fame upon retirement. This has led many fans to assume that one or both of them may find employment once again with BCG as backstage staff.</p><p> </p><p>

Friday W4 February 2018

Hakodate Athletic Field, Hokkaido

Attendance: 1.952

Kyuichi Matsumoto, Eikichi Itou & Shuzo Utagawa vs T-Bone Bright, Hammer Hadley & Ryobe Uno

A solid six man tag match to start off the show, with local talent Ryobe Uno joining the mix of young lions. Every man had a chance to show what they can do, with Matsumoto and Bright leading their respective teams until Itou flattened Uno with his patented Itou Bomb for the finish. Decent action, if somewhat sub-par for current BCG standards, but still good enough to warm up the live crowd.

In a bout that had sub-par wrestling and little heat, Kyuichi Matsumoto, Eikichi Itou and Shuzo Utagawa defeated T-Bone Bright, Ryobe Uno and Hammer Hadley in 10:06 when Eikichi Itou defeated Ryobe Uno by pinfall with an Itou Bomb.

Muscle Blasters vs The Ring Generals

The tournament kicked off next, featuring the returning Ring Generals and a brand new, sharper look from Shuzo Utagawa to go with his new status after having outgrown being a young lion by the end of last year. This was also evident in the in-ring action, with Muscle Blasters making the best of their chemistry and experience against the former COTT World Tag Team champions to start the tournament strong with a big win over two high profile competitors.

In a bout that had decent wrestling but little heat, Muscle Blasters defeated The Ring Generals in 10:25 when Blast Ikoma defeated Dean Waldorf by pinfall with a Northern Lights Bomb.

Threepwood & Goto vs Diazawa

Utagawa wasn't the only one to debut a new look in this show, as Conner Threepwood also sported some new ring gear to go along with his boosted confidence now that he's obviously adapted to Japan and puroresu. The match itself though was nothing like the previous one, as the reigning BCG World Tag Team champions threw their opponents from pillar to post in a very one-sided bout. Diaz had some bright moments, but Takizawa quickly ran out of steam and the champions steamrolled their way to the next stage of the tournament with characteristic ease

In a bout that had good wrestling but didn't have much heat, Threepwood & Goto defeated Diazawa in 5:54 when Naozane Goto defeated Masao Takizawa by pinfall with a Goto Slam.

Funakoshi & Tanaka vs Matsuzawa & Shikitei

Matsuzawa and Shikitei got a loud, if mixed reaction from the crowd and wrestling against BCG icon Funakoshi in this match was highly symbolic. Their tactic was simple, but effective: avoid the former BCG World champion and focus on his young, inexperienced partner. It worked too, because Matsuzawa did indeed manage to score the pin and send his team to the next phase, with fans booing the outcome of the match but unable to change anything about it.

In a bout that had good wrestling and a decent reaction from the crowd, Matsuzawa & Shikitei defeated Funakoshi & Tanaka in 9:48 when Yoshisada Matsuzawa defeated Jotaro Tanaka by pinfall with a Double Arm DDT.

POBEZKK.jpgB9GBpju.jpg25UZG0h.png3gGaTGc.jpgSetJXLQ.jpg

American Demolition Mk. II vs Double K

Perhaps the most high profile match of the first round, this one saw the return of Bulldozer Brandon Smith and reunion of American Demolition Mk. II against the rapidly rising duo of Kiyotaka and Gidayu Katou. This one was intense, with the powerful Katou clashing against the two rough gaijin and holding his own before tagging in Kiyotaka, who tried to slow down the pace of the match and wear down AmDem Mk. II with ground-based submission holds and textbook mat wrestling. It was a dramatic and highly competitive clash, with an equally dramatic finish of Smith trying to protect his injured back only to let his guard down and allow Kiyotaka to slap on the Kimura. Smith fought it, but couldn't hold on forever and eventually tapped out, ending his team's hopes of a tournament win early but also giving Kiyotaka reasonable grounds to request a shot at his BCG National title.

In a bout that had great wrestling and a decent reaction from the crowd, Double K defeated American Demolition Mk.II in 10:29 when Kiyotaka defeated Bulldozer Brandon Smith by submission with a Kimura.

Tournament Semi Final 1

jDRVOCy.jpg0KbhnYq.jpg25UZG0h.png3gGaTGc.jpgSetJXLQ.jpg

Muscle Blasters vs Double K

Double K had little time to celebrate, as they immediately had to wrestle their next stage match against Blast Ikoma and MUSCLE Serizawa. This proved to be a deciding factor in this match, with Muscle Blasters having a slight advantage due to whatever rest they were able to get during the rest of the quarterfinal matches.

In a bout that had great wrestling and a decent reaction from the crowd, Muscle Blasters defeated Double K in 10:27 when MUSCLE Serizawa defeated Gidayu Katou by pinfall with a MUSCLE Lariat.

Tournament Semi Final 2

Threepwood & Goto vs Matsuzawa & Shikitei

If Matsuzawa & Shikitei's previous match was somewhat symbolic, this was blatantly so as they went up against the reigning BCG World Tag Team champions. Though neither a regular nor an experienced team, Matsuzawa and Shikitei brought enough individual talent to not only stand their ground, but eventually turn the tide as Shikitei managed to force the technical grappler Threepwood to submit.

In a bout that had good wrestling and a decent reaction from the crowd, Matsuzawa & Shikitei defeated Threepwood & Goto in 10:19 when Omezo Shikitei defeated Conner Threepwood by submission with a Cross Armbreaker.

Yoshinaka Taku, Bunrakuken Torii & Motoyuki Miyake vs Pavel Vanzycha, Ray Snow & Giant Brody

Providing fans and wrestlers alike a much needed break before the big tournament final, this one was a great bout all around as three of BCG's mainstays took on three of the roster's top gaijin. This was a textbook strong style match and extremely well received too, with fans erupting in cheers by the time Yoshinaka Taku scored the pin over Ray Snow.

In a bout that had great wrestling and a decent reaction from the crowd, Bunrakuken Torii, Motoyuki Miyake and Yoshinaka Taku defeated Giant Brody, Pavel Vanzycha and Ray Snow in 11:52 when Yoshinaka Taku defeated Ray Snow by pinfall with a Full Nelson Bomb.

Muscle Blasters vs Matsuzawa & Shikitei

It all came down to this. The homegrown team of loyalists versus the duo of men who left to join the opposition. The atmosphere was buzzing and the wrestling was good, but between the four men's exhaustion and having to out-perform the previous match, this wasn't as spectacular as it could or should have been. However, the finale did come with a sense of relief and celebration, as Ikoma hit the Northern Light Bomb on Shikitei for the pin, defeating the unloyal challengers and winning the tournament.

In a decent match, Muscle Blasters defeated Matsuzawa & Shikitei in 14:30 when Blast Ikoma defeated Omezo Shikitei by pinfall with a Northern Lights Bomb. Blast Ikoma and MUSCLE Serizawa win the BCG TagMania titles.

</strong><strong><span style="font-size:14px;">Block A</span></strong></p><p><strong>

Animal Harker, Conner Threepwood, MUSCLE Serizawa,</strong></p><p><strong>

Pavel Vanzycha, Rokuemon Matsushita, Yoshinaka Taku</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

Block A is an interesting mix of competitors, blending strength with technical prowess and Japanese with foreign wrestlers. The ever-dangerous Animal Harker returns to singles action after a long period of tagging with Hammer Hadley and after that, Bulldozer Brandon Smith for TagMania 5. Though not exactly a favourite to win the block, Harker is a dangerous competitor who could nevertheless deprive others of valuable points and cause damage that may come to haunt his opponents along the gruelling tournament. Conner Threepwod is a similar case, having spent much time teaming with Naozane Goto and currently holding the BCG World Tag Team titles with him. His technical acumen is bound to give his opponents problem and his contest against one half of the former tag champions big man Matsushita is a highly anticipated match. MUSCLE Serizawa is entering the tournament hot off winning TagMania 5 alongside Blast Ikoma, so he will be out to prove his value as a singles competitor too. Next up is Pavel Vanzycha, arguably one of BCG's top foreign wrestlers and a hot favourite to win the whole block, his rematch against Yoshinaka Taku will be decisive in how the tournament evolves for both men. Rokuemon Matsushita is the man with the size and power advantage in this block, a heavy favourite to win but also a man returning from injury, a fact that puts his ability to perform in question. Last but not least, the BCG World champion himself, Yoshinaka Taku, will have all the pressure in the world to succeed and win the entire GP. Taku can barely afford any losses, not just for the points but also because anyone pinning him in a singles match here will have the right to request another match against him in the near future with the title on the line.</p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><p></p><img alt="jDRVOCy.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/jDRVOCy.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="PBv4Hhr.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/PBv4Hhr.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="8jfbhLn.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/8jfbhLn.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><p><strong>

</strong><strong><span style="font-size:14px;">Block B</span></strong></p><p><strong>

Blast Ikoma, Bunrakiken Torii, Funakoshi,</strong></p><p><strong>

Giant Brody, Naozane Goto, Ray Snow</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

Block B has already been nicknamed the Bruiser Block and with so many strong style and powerful competitors in it, it's easy to see why. Former BCG World champion Blast Ikoma is making a strong comeback in light of his TagMania 5 tournament victory, but he's not the only one in his block who has held that title in the past. Both Bunrakuken Torii and Funakoshi will be gunning to win the block and the entire Grand Prix, which in turn should make for many exciting matchups. Giant Brody and Naozane Goto, much like Ikoma, are mostly known as tag team specialists and will have to prove their worth as singles competitors too. With their respective teammates in the opposite block, many fans have already started to speculate that we may be heading towards a partner versus partner final to the tournament. Last but not least is Ray Snow, a man who has been called the American counterpart to Europe's Pavel Vanzycha, since both men are non-Japanese, tough, resilient, hard hitting and both have repeatedly toured with Pride Glory Honor Wrestling to prove alll of the above again and again.</p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="POBEZKK.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/POBEZKK.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="7Mb9acF.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/7Mb9acF.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="3gGaTGc.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/3gGaTGc.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="SetJXLQ.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/SetJXLQ.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p>

Notable tournament absences this year include Bulldozer Brandon Smith, Motoyuki Miyake and the team of Double K. However, all those four men are already scheduled to face each other at Test of Champions and have thus been excluded from this year's Grand Prix, the winner of which will headline Test of Champions in a match for the BCG World title (with the outcome still unknown in case the reigning champion Yoshinaka Taku also wins the Grand Prix). Smith will be defending his BCG National title against Kiyotaka, following the outcome of American Demolition Mk. II versus Double K at TagMania 5, in which Kiyotaka was able to tap out the champion and knock that team out of the race. Likewise, Gidayu Katou was able to pin the reigning BCG Challengers Series champion in a tag match at the latest installment of BCG RISE and will therefore be wrestling him one on one for the title at Test of Champions.</p>

Funakoshi & Tanaka vs Goto & Itou</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

As usual, the undercard consisted of multi man and tag matches to hype and set up matches of the other block, meaning Funakoshi versus Naozane Goto will be on the card for the first night of the B block. The power that Goto and Itou brought into this match was just too much for their opponents to bear and young Jotaro Tanaka eventually buckled after staying alive for almost ten minutes in the match.</p><p>

<strong>In a decent match, Naozane Goto and Eikichi Itou defeated Funakoshi & Tanaka in 9:42 when Naozane Goto defeated Jotaro Tanaka by pinfall with a Goto Slam.</strong></p><p><strong>

Bunrakuken Torii & Double K vs Bulldozer Brandon Smith, Giant Brody & Logan Diaz</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

Again, this 3 on 3 match was about the upcoming Torii-Brody match as much it was about Kiyotaka's title match against Smith. Diaz was up to par with everyone else, showing amazing skill for his little in-ring experience but ultimately was flattened by a Katou lariat for the pin.</p><p>

<strong>In a bout that had good wrestling and a decent reaction from the crowd, Bunrakuken Torii, Kiyotaka and Gidayu Katou defeated Bulldozer Brandon Smith, Giant Brody and Logan Diaz in 10:23 when Gidayu Katou defeated Logan Diaz by pinfall with a Lariat.</strong></p><p><strong>

Blast Ikoma & Motoyuki Miyake vs Ray Snow & Kyuichi Matsumoto</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

In the last of the undercard matches, Ikoma teamed with the BCG Challengers Series champion Miyake to take on Snow and Matsumoto, a hard hitting duo that made for a very physical fight until the champion managed to squeeze a submission out of young Matsumoto.</p><p>

<strong>In a decent match, Blast Ikoma and Motoyuki Miyake defeated Ray Snow and Kyuichi Matsumoto in 9:54 when Motoyuki Miyake defeated Kyuichi Matsumoto by submission with an Armbar #128.</strong></p><p><strong>

Conner Threepwood vs MUSCLE Serizawa</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

One half of the reigning BCG World Tag Team champions versus one half of this year's TagMania winners and title challengers in the upcoming Test of Champions, this match was about the Grand Prix but also had the feeling of lasting consequences and an ongoing rivalry. Serizawa really brought the power and intensity he is known for, while Threepwood attempted to slow down the pace and take things to the mat where he's most comfortable. Slowly but steadily, Threepwood grounded his opponent to take away most of his offense and tore him down with clinical precision, eventually forcing the young warrior to tap out to the Stretch Plum.</p><p>

<strong>In a bout that had decent wrestling but didn't have much heat, Conner Threepwood defeated MUSCLE Serizawa in 10:13 by submission with a Stretch Plum.</strong></p><p><strong>

Animal Harker vs Yoshinaka Taku</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

Harker's wild southern brawling style clashed with Taku's textbook strong style puroresu in what was by far the best match of the night, a physical contest that pushed both men to their limits. Taku showed resilience in withstanding Harker's assault and in the end managed to hit a huge Full Nelson Bomb for the win and his first two points in the Grand Prix.</p><p>

Pavel Vanzycha vs Rokuemon Matsushita</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

Matsushita had a point to prove here, both as a singles competitor and returning from his wrist injury. Vanzycha, alongside Yoshinaka Taku, are probably his two toughest opponents in the block and this was anything but an easy start for the big man, but not only did he survive it, he even pulled through and made the best of his size and power advantage to devastate Vanzycha and score his first two points with authority after destroying the Polish fighter with his One-Handed Choke Slam.</p><p>

MUSCLE Serizawa & Double K vs Rokuemon Matsushita, Kyuichi Matsumoto & Eikichi Itou

First night of the B Block began with a six man tag built around the upcoming GP matchup of Serizawa and Matsushita. Despite Serizawa's rough start, his team got the win thanks to Double K, who smartly avoided big man Matsushita to wear down and defeat his two young teammates.

In a bout that had decent wrestling but didn't have much heat, MUSCLE Serizawa, Kiyotaka and Gidayu Katou defeated Rokuemon Matsushita, Kyuichi Matsumoto and Eikichi Itou in 8:10 when Kiyotaka defeated Eikichi Itou by submission with a Kimura.

Yoshinaka Taku & Motoyuki Miyake vs Conner Threepwood & Shuzo Utagawa

In the second match of the night, BCG World champion Yoshinaka Taku teamed with the BCG Challengers Series title holder Motoyuki Miyake against Threepwood and Utagawa. Taku and Threepwood had some interesting exchanges in light of their highly anticipated singles clash, but Miyake's presence tipped the scales in favour of his team in a solid contest that ended with Utagawa taking the pin.

In a bout that had good wrestling but didn't have much heat, Yoshinaka Taku and Motoyuki Miyake defeated Conner Threepwood and Shuzo Utagawa in 9:25 when Motoyuki Miyake defeated Shuzo Utagawa by pinfall with a Knock Out Kick.

American Demolition Mk.II vs Pavel Vanzycha & Logan Diaz

In the last of the preliminary matchups, Vanzycha put in a solid performance alongside the hot new prospect that is Logan Diaz against the ever-dangerous pairing of Smith and Harker. All four men had some great moments, but in the end a Stump Piledriver finished the match with authority.

In a bout that had good wrestling and a decent reaction from the crowd, American Demolition Mk.II defeated Pavel Vanzycha and Logan Diaz in 7:39 when Animal Harker defeated Logan Diaz by pinfall with a Stump Piledriver.

Bunrakuken Torii vs Giant Brody

Unlike his Partnership of Pain teammate the day prior, Giant Brody was unable to start his GP with a win as well but given the quality of opposition he was up against, there was no shame in his performance and ultimate loss to one of BCG's greatest competitors in Bunrakuken Torii.

In a bout that had great wrestling and a decent reaction from the crowd, Bunrakuken Torii defeated Giant Brody in 9:06 by pinfall with a Spinning Forearm Smash.

Funakoshi vs Naozane Goto

The first real shock in this year's Yoshifusa Maeda Grand Prix, a time limit draw between BCG's standard bearer Funakoshi and the massive former sumo competitor Goto gave each man a point to start with, but given how Funakoshi is among the favourites to win the block, if not the entire tournament, he was the one to suffer more from the match outcome. Although he was able to withstand the onslaught of powerhouse Goto, Funakoshi was also unable to finish off the big man, especially when it came to lifting him up for his finisher.

In a bout that had good wrestling and a decent reaction from the crowd, Funakoshi drew with Naozane Goto in 15:00 when the time limit expired.

Blast Ikoma vs Ray Snow

An extremely physical match in the main event that really could have gone either way, this one saw TagMania 5 winner Blast Ikoma take on Ray Snow. Between Ikoma's explosive suplexes and Snow's stiff striking offense, fans were treated to a textbook strong style contest that saw Snow score his first two points in this year's Grand Prix, putting Ikoma in a spot where he has to play catch up for the rest of the tournament.

In a bout that had good wrestling and a decent reaction from the crowd, Ray Snow defeated Blast Ikoma in 12:49 by pinfall with a Spinning Back Fist.

Naozane Goto, Motoyuki Miyake & Kyuichi Matsumoto vs Ray Snow & Diazawa</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

The opening six man tag was surprisingly good, thanks to not only the quality of wrestlers involved but also the interactions in light of the upcoming Goto-Snow matchup. With the massive Goto coming off a match where he fought Funakoshi to a time limit draw and Snow scoring a big win over Blast Ikoma, both men looked hungry to get their hands on each other and Goto especially wasn't shy about working Snow over in hopes of weakening him before their match. However, it was Matsumoto who got the pin, destroying the returning Masao Takizawa with a Spinal Shock.</p><p>

Blast Ikoma & Double K vs Bulldozer Brandon Smith, Giant Brody & Eikichi Itou</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

Both Ikoma and Brody came into this match after losing their opening Grand Prix matches, adding to the story of this match on top of the upcoming clash between Kiyotaka and Bulldozer Brandon Smith over the BCG National title. Even with his surprise loss in the opening night of the B Block, Ikoma is still regarded as a favourite to defeat Brody, but this may change after this match against three big burly brawlers that must have taken a heavy toll on his body. With Ikoma reeling as Brody tried to break him and Smith fighting Kiyotaka, the ring was clear for Katou to hit a huge Lariat over Itou and score the pin to end the match.</p><p>

Bunrakuken Torii & Shuzo Utagawa vs Funakoshi & Tanaka</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

Funakoshi re-joined Jotaro Tanaka for the last of the undercard matches, visibly shaken from the result of his match against Goto. Things don't seem to be getting any easier for Funakoshi though, as he is up against "Machine Gun" Bunrakuken Torii next and this match was a great teaser to what fans can expect, a hard hitting match between the two. For now, Tanaka was taken out by Utagawa's Sleeper Hold, but what will happen when Torii meets Funakoshi tomorrow remains to be seen.</p><p>

Rokuemon Matsushita vs MUSCLE Serizawa</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

After a big win over Pavel Vanzycha in the opening night of the A Block, Rokuemon Matsushita entered this match full of confidence but that soon turned to shock when the powerful Serizawa was able to lift him up for a german suplex! Serizawa pushed on and almost made it to a big win but Matsushita was able to get a shoulder up just before the count of three. This only made Serizawa fight with renewed urgency, but this meant he also got careless and walked straight into a One-Handed Choke Slam that ended his hopes of getting his first two points in the tournament.</p><p>

<strong>In a good match, Rokuemon Matsushita defeated MUSCLE Serizawa in 8:44 by pinfall with an One-Handed Choke Slam.</strong></p><p><strong>

Animal Harker vs Pavel Vanzycha</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

Both men coming from losses in the opening night of their block, they were really motivated to push hard and win this match, which in turn upped the intensity from the opening bell already. Vanzycha seemed to be struggling a bit, courtesy of his prior match against American Demolition Mk.II but he showed great warrior spirit in pushing through as well s great ring IQ by staying calm until just the opportune moment presented itself and he was able to put his opponent's arm in the Cross Armlock for the tap out.</p><p>

<strong>In a good match, Pavel Vanzycha defeated Animal Harker in 11:26 by submission with a Cross Armlock.</strong></p><p><strong>

Yoshinaka Taku vs Conner Threepwood</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

In the main event of the night, the BCG World champion Yoshinaka Taku faced off against one half of the BCG World Tag Team champions, Conner Threepwood. Both men stood at 2 points up to that point and that made this contest all the more important, though Threepwood admittedly had an easier opening round against Serizawa, as opposed to Taku who fought Harker. This made for a pretty even match and as time went on, Threepwood's stalling tactics paid off when the bell rang, signalling the match had reached its 15 minute time limit.</p><p>

<strong>In a bout that had superb wrestling and good heat, Yoshinaka Taku drew with Conner Threepwood in 15:00 when the time limit expired.</strong></p><p><strong>

Pavel Vanzycha & Logan Diaz vs MUSCLE Serizawa & Jotaro Tanaka</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

MUSCLE Serizawa is still at zero points in the Grand Prix. Pavel Vanzycha was off to a rough start, losing to Matsushita, but scored his first two points and is gunning to catch up with the rest of his block. No wonder this opening contest was pretty intense in light of their upcoming clash, with the outstanding quality of Diaz turning the tables in favor of his team.</p><p>

<strong>In a decent match, Pavel Vanzycha and Logan Diaz defeated MUSCLE Serizawa and Jotaro Tanaka in 10:28 when Logan Diaz defeated Jotaro Tanaka by submission with a Boston Crab.</strong></p><p><strong>

Conner Threepwood & Double K vs American Demolition Mk.II & Eikichi Itou</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

Another chapter in the upcoming Kiyotaka-Smith clash over the BCG National title, this one saw the reunion of AmDem Mk.II against Double K as well as Threepwood, who has been doing surprisingly well in the Grand Prix so far, having some moments against his next opponent in Harker, who was extra aggressive following his two Grand Prix losses to date. Threepwood was initially caught by surprise, but eventually showcased his usual cool and brought down the pace of the match alongside Kiyotaka, before focusing on the opposing team's weakest link and managing to tap out Itou.</p><p>

<strong>In a bout that had great wrestling and good heat, Conner Threepwood and Double K defeated Eikichi Itou and American Demolition Mk.II in 10:09 when Conner Threepwood defeated Eikichi Itou by submission with a Stretch Plum.</strong></p><p><strong>

Yoshinaka Taku & Motoyuki Miyake vs Rokuemon Matsushita & Kyuichi Matsumoto</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

This is perhaps the matchup fans are more excited to see next week in the Grand Prix and it showed in the in-ring action, as Taku seemed to be struggling, his confidence damaged after the previous night's time limit draw with Threepwood. Matsushita was absolutely devastating as usual, though without Brody on his side he did seem to be missing something and Matsumoto eventually cost him the match when he tapped out to the BCG Challengers Series champion's Armbar.</p><p>

<strong>In a bout that had great wrestling and good heat, Yoshinaka Taku and Motoyuki Miyake defeated Rokuemon Matsushita and Kyuichi Matsumoto in 11:01 when Motoyuki Miyake defeated Kyuichi Matsumoto by submission with an Armbar #128.</strong></p><p><strong>

Blast Ikoma vs Giant Brody</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

Both men lost in the opening matches of their block so they both came out gunning for their first two points. Brody was the one mostly on the offensive making the best of his size and power advantage, but a second wind in Ikoma saw him explode in one of his trademark suplexes, before floating over to slap on a heel hook on the big man for the win.</p><p>

<strong>In a good match, Blast Ikoma defeated Giant Brody in 8:26 by submission.</strong></p><p><strong>

Ray Snow vs Naozane Goto</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

The massive Goto controlled most of this match, manhandling the smaller Snow around and taking his stiffest shots without seemingly feeling the impact behind them. This was a struggle from bell to bell for Snow and a very physical match between the two of them, but the American was the one to win it when he managed to catch Goto with a Spinning Back Fist. The former sumo competitor stumbled, Snow hit another and it took three Spinning Back Fists to finally take Goto of his feet and down for the count.</p><p>

Bunrakuken Torii vs Funakoshi</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

A classic matchup fit to headline BCG's biggest shows, this one saw two of its arguably top homegrown stars battle it out in an epic clash. Following his time limit draw to Naozane Goto, Funakoshi had an added sense of urgency to his offense and that really upped the intensity of the match, bringing out the best of his warrior spirit against "Machine Gun" Torii and his rapid fire strikes. In the end, it was all left unresolved though as 15 minutes simply weren't enough to determine a decisive winner between these two warriors and the show ended with fans giving both men a standing ovation for their outstanding performance.</p><p>

Yoshifusa Maeda Grand Prix A Block Night 3

Monday W3 April 2018

Matsumoto Hall, Tohoku

Attendance: 206

Bunrakuken Torii, Motoyuki Miyake & Kyuichi Matsumoto vs Ray Snow & Diazawa

Torii and Snow currently stand on the top two spots of their block and their match is highly anticipated, thus this six man tag was a strong opener to the show, with Miyake and Diaz especially looking great alongside their respective team leaders. Masao Takizawa was clearly the weakest link in the mix, not just in terms of performance but also stamina, a factor that allowed Matsumoto to score the pin over him by 7:30.

In a decent match, Bunrakuken Torii, Motoyuki Miyake and Kyuichi Matsumoto defeated Ray Snow and Diazawa in 7:23 when Kyuichi Matsumoto defeated Masao Takizawa by pinfall with a Spinal Shock.

Blast Ikoma & Double K vs Naozane Goto, Bulldozer Brandon Smith & Eikichi Itou

Ikoma and Double K had a rough challenge here against the power trio of Goto, Smith and Itou, resulting in a very physical contest. Goto and Ikoma had some spots between them to hype up their upcoming GP clash, as did Kiyotaka and Smith who will be wrestling each other for the BCG National title.

In a bout that had decent wrestling but didn't have much heat, Blast Ikoma, Kiyotaka and Gidayu Katou defeated Naozane Goto, Bulldozer Brandon Smith and Eikichi Itou in 8:59 when Gidayu Katou defeated Eikichi Itou by pinfall with a Lariat.

Funakoshi & Tanaka vs Giant Brody & Shuzo Utagawa

In the last of the preliminary matches, Funakoshi and his young lion partner Jotaro Tanaka teamed up once again to face Brody and Utagawa. Although Brody has been less than stellar in the Grand Prix so far, he is still a dangerous and powerful opponent, especially since Funakoshi had to make up for his young teammate's inexperience. Utagawa, in comparison, was a lot more helpful towards his teammate and even got the win for his team, with Brody and Funakoshi set to clash the following night and nothing settled between them yet.

In a bout that had decent wrestling but didn't have much heat, Giant Brody and Shuzo Utagawa defeated Funakoshi & Tanaka in 5:48 when Shuzo Utagawa defeated Jotaro Tanaka by submission with a Sleeper Hold.

Pavel Vanzycha vs MUSCLE Serizawa

Serizawa's power and intensity was a perfect way to highlight Vanzycha's resilience and ruggedness, making this match a tad more exciting than one would expect. Vanzycha didn't have it easy, but he did pick up the win and in a somewhat unusual manner too, switching his usual submission finisher for a Double Arm Powerbomb that beat Serizawa in his own game.

In a decent match, Pavel Vanzycha defeated MUSCLE Serizawa in 8:40 by pinfall with a Double Arm Powerbomb.

Conner Threepwood vs Animal Harker

Probably the shocker of the night, this match saw an overly confident Threepwood underestimate his opponent, thinking he'd easily contain him to the mat for a stretch. Harker was having none of it however and repeatedly powered out of Threepwood's submission holds before hitting him with a crunching Stump Piledriver for the pin and his first two points in the Grand Prix.

In a bout that had decent wrestling but didn't have much heat, Animal Harker defeated Conner Threepwood in 11:20 by pinfall with a Stump Piledriver.

Rokuemon Matsushita vs Yoshinaka Taku

Under normal circumstances, Yoshi Taku would be the clear favourite in this match. However, the BCG World champion had already stumbled against Conner Threepwood, as opposed to Matsushita who came into this match with an undefeated streak so far in the Grand Prix. This made the match feel like it could go either way and the in-ring action played out exactly like that: Matsushita looked for a quick pinfall but couldn't get it against the unyielding champion. As the match went on and the big man was running out of gas, it looked like Taku had the advantage, but he still had to solve the riddle of how to bring down the big man and especially how to hit the Full Nelson Bomb on him. Things escalated to a dramatic finish and eventually the time limit was reached, leaving both men with one point each and the match with an inconclusive end.

In a bout that had good wrestling and a decent reaction from the crowd, Rokuemon Matsushita drew with Yoshinaka Taku in 15:00 when the time limit expired.

Yoshinaka Taku & Kyuichi Matsumoto vs MUSCLE Serizawa & Jotaro Tanaka

A decent opening contest, this one was meant to also be a preview of next week's clash between Yoshi Taku and MUSCLE Serizawa. Although Serizawa has yet to pick up any points in the Grand Prix so far, with three matches to go still he should not be counted out and if nothing else, he showed in this match he is a dangerous opponent that may well cost the BCG World champion some precious points on his own GP race.

In a bout that had decent wrestling but didn't have much heat, Yoshinaka Taku and Kyuichi Matsumoto defeated MUSCLE Serizawa and Jotaro Tanaka in 10:25 when Kyuichi Matsumoto defeated Jotaro Tanaka by pinfall with a Matsumoto Murder Bomb.

Conner Threepwood & Shuzo Utagawa vs Pavel Vanzycha & Logan Diaz

Threepwood and Vanzycha have so far done better in the Grand Prix than many critics would give them credit for at the start, so naturally their upcoming clash is hotly anticipated and expected to be decisive in how this year's Grand Prix plays out. For now, Vanzycha had the slight advantage and his team got the win here, courtesy of his outstanding young lion teammate, Logan Diaz.

In a decent match, Pavel Vanzycha and Logan Diaz defeated Conner Threepwood and Shuzo Utagawa in 9:39 when Logan Diaz defeated Shuzo Utagawa by submission with a Boston Crab.

Rokuemon Matsushita & Double K vs American Demolition Mk.II & Motoyuki Miyake

Every man had a nemesis in this last of the undercard matches, meaning this six man tag built up three different future matches at once. Matsushita, whose undefeated streak was broken after he drew with Yoshinaka Taku, will be facing Animal Harker who finally managed to get his first two points in this year's GP with a big victory over Conner Threepwood. Kiyotaka, who is set to face Bulldozer Brandon Smith for the BCG National title and of course, Gidayu Katou who will be challenging Motoyuki Miyake for the BCG Challengers Series title. All six men had great exchanges back and forth, as well as some double team maneuvers from Double K and AmDem Mk.II, but it was Harker who scored the pin over Katou with a neck crunching Stump Piledriver.

In a bout that had good wrestling and a decent reaction from the crowd, Motoyuki Miyake and American Demolition Mk.II defeated Rokuemon Matsushita and Double K in 10:03 when Animal Harker defeated Gidayu Katou by pinfall with a Stump Piledriver.

Funakoshi vs Giant Brody

Funakoshi had a rough start to the Grand Prix and facing Giant Brody did not make things any easier for him. On top of the big man's size and power, Funakoshi had to also fight against his own exhaustion from a gruelling schedule so far as well as the riddle of how he would be able to hit the Butterfly Backbreaker on his massive opponent. Brody gave him a lot of trouble from the opening of the match, but Funakoshi showcased his trademark resilience as well as a high in-ring IQ, adapting to focus his stiff kicks on chopping down Brody's vertical base and working his legs for a rare submission victory.

In a bout that had good wrestling and a decent reaction from the crowd, Funakoshi defeated Giant Brody in 9:08 by submission.

Blast Ikoma vs Naozane Goto

An interesting contest featuring two wrestlers that began strong but stumbled along the way, this one mirrored the previous bout but featured a lot more technical wrestling instead of brawling or strong style. Goto sought to bully his smaller opponent around whilst Ikoma had to adapt his offence to face an opponent he couldn't hope to lift up. Some unexpectedly long chain wrestling sequences were pulled off as the two jockeyed for position but eventually the massive Goto his his finisher and fell on top of Ikoma for the pinfall that put him back in the points race.

In a decent match, Naozane Goto defeated Blast Ikoma in 8:50 by pinfall with a Goto Slam.

Bunrakuken Torii vs Ray Snow

And in the night's main event, the two men on top of the B Block scorecard faced off in a decisive bout. Between Snow's strikes and Torii''s rapid fire forearms, this one was as physical as they come and almost felt like a martial arts contest, though both men eventually had to pace themselves and incorporate some grappling to their approach. In the dramatic finish, Snow barely ducked under Torii's finisher to avoid it, before connecting with his own Spinning Back Fist for the pinfall.

In a bout that had good wrestling and a decent reaction from the crowd, Ray Snow defeated Bunrakuken Torii in 12:54 by pinfall with a Spinning Back Fist.

Giant Brody & Eikichi Itou vs Ray Snow & Shuzo Utagawa</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

Ray Snow currently sits on top of the B Block while Giant Brody has yet to earn any points in the Grand Prix, but this opening contest was pretty exciting given the power that Itou added to that of the big bruiser against Snow's precision strikes and Utagawa's technical wrestling. A pretty all-around match that had all bases covered to warm up the crowd, this one ended with Itou getting the pin over Utagawa.</p><p>

Funakoshi & Tanaka vs Blast Ikoma & Notoyuki Miyake</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

Funakoshi and Tanaka's team, while not widely successful so far, is always a pleasure to watch in the ring given their apparent chemistry together. Ikoma and Funakoshi's match is set to headline the fourth night of the B Block and seeing them fight each other here proved they deserve that spot, however it was the BCG Challengers Series champion that tipped the scales in favor of his team with his performance against their opponents' teamwork, ultimately taking out Tanaka with a stiff Knock Out Kick that put the young lion down for the count.</p><p>

<strong>In a bout that had great wrestling and a decent reaction from the crowd, Blast Ikoma and Motoyuki Miyake defeated Funakoshi & Tanaka in 10:22 when Motoyuki Miyake defeated Jotaro Tanaka by pinfall with a Knock Out Kick.</strong></p><p><strong>

Animal Harker vs Rokuemon Matsushita</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

The first Grand Prix match of the night had an interesting story to tell, of two competitors in very different situations. Animal Harker came into this match with a big win over Conner Threepwood after a disappointing start to this year's tournament, whereas Matsushita dominated the early stages before his momentum was halted by a time limit draw against the BCG World champion, Yoshinaka Taku. Though not as bad a hit in terms of points, Matsuhsita's latest result seemed enough to shake the big man's confidence and after a rather short, somewhat underwhelming match, Harker hit Matsushita with a Stump Piledriver that put the giant down and cost him two more points in the race while shooting Harker further up the board.</p><p>

<strong>In a decent match, Animal Harker defeated Rokuemon Matsushita in 7:31 by pinfall with a Stump Piledriver.</strong></p><p><strong>

MUSCLE Serizawa vs Yoshinaka Taku</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

MUSCLE Serizawa came into this match gunning hard for not just his first two points in the Grand Prix but also a victory over the BCG World champion that would allow him to challenge for the title. Taku, while cornered by his opponent's ferocity and two rough draws so far against Threepwood and Matsushita, did not yield and slowly fought against the tide to turn the match around and hit Serizawa with a Full Nelson Bomb for a win that did wonders for his point total but also his morale going into the final round of the Grand Prix against Pavel Vanzycha.</p><p>

<strong>In a bout that had good wrestling and a decent reaction from the crowd, Yoshinaka Taku defeated MUSCLE Serizawa in 9:25 by pinfall with a Full Nelson Bomb.</strong></p><p><strong>

Conner Threepwood vs Pavel Vanzycha</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

With Yoshinaka Taku up to 6 points after his win earlier, both Threepwood and Vanzycha had to fight real hard to stay in the race for the top spot in the A Block and their clash reflected just that, a confrontation that was intense physically as well as mentally. Neither risking to make a mistake the other would exploit, the two wrestlers fought methodically but fell victim to their own tactics, because the fifteen minutes this match was given were not enough to crown a decisive winner, thus forcing them to end the night with one point each.</p><p>

<strong>In a bout that had good wrestling and a decent reaction from the crowd, Conner Threepwood drew with Pavel Vanzycha in 15:00 when the time limit expired.</strong></p><p><strong>

Conner Threepwood & Eikichi Itou vs Rokuemon Matsushita & Shuzo Utagawa</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

Threepwood and Matsushita are set to clash in the final round of their block with everything to fight for and that sense of urgency played into this match as well to get the fans going. Matsushita stands just one point away from the top and is still in the race to win the block, even if he seemed to struggle a bit as of late, whereas Threepwood could pull off a big comeback from behind win by scoring a win over the big man; at the same time, both men could potentially hold back their opponent from reaching the top. BCG fans got an early taste of what they can expect between Matsushita's power and Threepwood's technical prowess, with the former looking dominant as he eliminated Itou with a ground shaking One-Handed Choke Slam.</p><p>

Pavel Vanzycha & Kyuichi Matsumoto vs Yoshinaka Taku & Motoyuki Miyake</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

Even though most competitors of the block have everything left to fight for, Vanzycha vs Taku may well be the most decisive matchup of the final round. For now, the BCG World champion had the edge in this tag match thanks to teaming up with the BCG Challengers Series title holder and it was Miyake who also got the pin after hitting his Knockout Kick finisher on Matsumoto.</p><p>

<strong>In a decent match, Yoshinaka Taku and Motoyuki Miyake defeated Pavel Vanzycha and Kyuichi Matsumoto in 9:47 when Motoyuki Miyake defeated Kyuichi Matsumoto by pinfall with a Knock Out Kick.</strong></p><p><strong>

American Demolition Mk.II & Logan Diaz vs MUSCLE Serizawa & Double K</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

The reunited AmDem Mk.II joined forces with hot rookie Logan Diaz to take on Serizawa and Double K, a match that had a bunch of personal rivalries in it but also some stellar wrestling, especially from Smith and Diaz. Still, their power was not enough to also win them the match, since Kiyotaka smartly trapped Diaz in a Kimura for the submission.</p><p>

Giant Brody vs Ray Snow</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

While solid in terms of in ring action, this match had little interest as far as points go. Snow came into it standing on top of the scorecard, while Brody is mathematically out of the race with no points yet in this year's Grand Prix. The only real question was whether Brody could rob Snow of some precious points, somthing that he was unable to do after he was hit with the Spinning Back Fist, shooting Snow to 8 points.</p><p>

<strong>In a decent match, Ray Snow defeated Giant Brody in 10:41 by pinfall with a Spinning Back Fist.</strong></p><p><strong>

Bunrakuken Torii vs Naozane Goto</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

Both men came into this match with 3 points each and with Snow at 8 after the previous match, neither had a realistic chance to win the block but that didn't mean they didn't give 100% for a victory. Torii used hit and run tactics against the bigger and slower Goto but didn't avoid the big man's hits completely, making this a pretty open contest as time went on. However, Goto couldn't keep the former BCG World champion down for the count and Torii had to hit three Spinning Forearm Smashes before he was finally able to get the win.</p><p>

Blast Ikoma vs Funakoshi</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

The night's main event featured a clash between two former BCG World champions and it was every bit as good as it should have been, a dramatic back and forth that felt like it was headed for a time limit draw before Funakoshi finally managed to connect with a Butterfly Backbreaker just 30 seconds before the final bell, climbing up to 6 points. Now set to face Ray Snow in the last night of the Grand Prix, Funakoshi heads to the big finale in a must-win scenario, as a victory over Snow is the only way for him to win the Block since he'd also hit 8 points and have the tie breaking win over him.</p><p>

He'd still be waiting to find out the winner of Vanzycha vs Taku though. Should Vanzycha win and also make it to 7 points, the two have drawn in their own contest and may end up wrestling another tie-breaker match. If Taku wins, the BCG World champion would climb to 8 points and end Threepwood's dreams of winning the block, while a draw between the two would favour Threepwood as he and Taku would be at 7 points each but he holds a victory over Taku in their GP match.</p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><p></p><img alt="TIiOlFj.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/TIiOlFj.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><p><strong> Pavel Vanzycha</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p> The rugged Polish grappler stands at 5 points and his final match may well be his hardest one against Yoshinaka Taku. BCG Challengers Series title match

Motoyuki Miyake © vs Gidayu Katou

The Yoshifusa Maeda Grand Prix kicked off strong with a title match between former young lions turned legitimately dangerous wrestlers Motoyuki Miyake and Gidayu "The Lariat" Katou. This was, in large part, a celebration of how far they've both come as wrestlers as well as how far the promotion has come in developing new talent and fans cheered both men for their efforts in dishing out and receiving some very stiff hits. Katou pushed the champion more than any challenger so far probably has, but barely missed with his Lariat as Miyake ducked underneath it, only to catch Katou who had rebounded off the ropes with his own finisher, the Knock Out Kick.

In a bout that had great wrestling and good heat, Motoyuki Miyake defeated Gidayu Katou in 11:08 by pinfall with a Knock Out Kick. Motoyuki Miyake makes defence number 7 of his BCG Challengers Series title.

Animal Harker vs MUSCLE Serizawa

With both men mathematically out of the race, this fight was purely about bragging rights. Harker had a point to prove after Bulldozer Brandon Smith's singles success as the BCG National champion, while Serizawa still chased his first two points in the Grand Prix. Between the animal's wild brawling and Serizawa's power moves, this was another hard hitting match that still felt different than the strong style-heavy opener and one that Harker won to end his GP for this year at 6 points.

In a good match, Animal Harker defeated MUSCLE Serizawa in 10:09 by pinfall with a Stump Piledriver.

Giant Brody vs Naozane Goto

The quintessential hoss fight of the card, this one did a great job of highlighting Brody's athleticism as well as Goto's power. Both men wrestled to a stalemate that seemed to exhaust both their gas tanks and with nothing resolved between them, it will be interesting to see if this leads to the Partnership of Pain eventually challenging Threepwood & Goto for the BCG World Tag Team titles.

In a bout that had good heat and decent wrestling, Giant Brody drew with Naozane Goto in 15:00 when the time limit expired.

Conner Threepwood vs Rokuemon Matsushita

The first match of the show to really have any meaningful impact as far as the race for points goes, this was dominated early on by Matsushita who used his power to push for a quick win. Threepwood took a lot of punishment but smartly outgrappled the big man, including a big spot where he reversed a One Handed Choke Slam into controlling his opponent's arm to latch onto in for an armbar. This allowed Threepwood to slow down the pace of the match and wear down Matsushita's stamina, before eventually taking him off his feet and down to the mat for the Stretch Plum. Threepwood was worn out but really excited by the end of the match, as he had just shot himself up to 6 points and would be carefully watching the Vanzycha-Taku clash to find out whether he'd be moving on to the GP finals or not.

In a good match, Conner Threepwood defeated Rokuemon Matsushita in 12:47 by submission with a Stretch Plum.

Blast Ikoma vs Bunrakuken Torii

What a world we live in, where two former BCG World champions in Ikoma and Torii are clashing in a match that not only does not headline a BCG show, but is also irrelevant as far as points go. Not that it mattered much to the participants of course, who set out to have a killer match and steal the show in this last chance they had. Were they given more time, this would have been a true epic, but given the show's time constraints, Ikoma and Torii hit the 15 minute time limit still fighting, ending their GP with a time limit draw.

In a good match, Blast Ikoma drew with Bunrakuken Torii in 15:00 when the time limit expired.

Pavel Vanzycha vs Yoshinaka Taku

As far as drama goes, this was the killer that would judge the winner of the A Block and thus, fans were pretty hot to see the two competitors fight it out. Vanzycha's rugged resilience was a perfect canvas for Taku to showcase his strongest of strikes while Taku's warrior spirit really shone as he battled to survive everything the Polish wrestler threw at him. With every passing minute, things escalated more and more to peak emotion and finally, the bell rang to signal this match was over as a time limit draw. This left Vanzycha at 6 points alongside Threepwood, while taking Taku just up to 7 to win the A Block.

In a bout that had great wrestling and good heat, Pavel Vanzycha drew with Yoshinaka Taku in 15:00 when the time limit expired.

Funakoshi vs Ray Snow

Snow came into this match with the advantage in terms of points but that didn't make him hold back at all against Funakoshi. The BCG star was all to happy to have another instant classic of a match and tension escalated once the bout went past the ten minute mark. Funakoshi stuggled to hit the Butterfly Backbreaker but he did kick out of a Spinning Back fist and when Snow hit the second one in the match to send him stumbling, he tried to go for a third Spinning Back Fist, only to get caught by Funakoshi who finally pulled off his own finisher to win the match as well as the B Block right out of Snow's grasp.

In a bout that had great wrestling and good heat, Funakoshi defeated Ray Snow in 13:40 by pinfall with a Butterfly Backbreaker.

Bulldozer Brandon Smith © vs Kiyotaka

Several months in the making, this match was postponed after Smith's injury and although he's been the BCG National champion for almost half a year, this was barely his first defense of the title. Kiyotaka used sound strategy in trying to avoid the big American's powerful moves and attempting to chop him down for some mat grappling, but Smith looked so fired up he would not be denied and added the exclamation point to his first successful title defense when he stopped a Backdrop Driver mid-move to turn it into a Tombstone Piledriver that looked like it broke the challenger's neck.

In a bout that had superb wrestling and good heat, Bulldozer Brandon Smith defeated Kiyotaka in 13:49 by pinfall with a Tombstone Piledriver. Bulldozer Brandon Smith makes defence number 1 of his BCG National title.

Yoshinaka Taku vs Funakoshi

As soon as the bell rang, the two men circled each other to let fans soak it in and give announcers a chance to recap the history behind this clash: Funakoshi first met Yoshi Taku in a big singles match in 2016, when they headlined The Lion's Roar V for the BCG World title. Funakoshi won that match to retain the gold, only for Taku to win the first ever Lionheart tournament and set up the rematch exactly one year after, in the main event of The Lion's Roar VI. This time, Yoshinaka Taku beat Funakoshi to win the BCG World title, meaning this was their third ever big clash with either man holding a big win over the other. Now with more time to wrestle the match than they every had during the Blocks stage, Funakoshi and Taku really took things to the next level as they fought a superb match of constant escalating tension, pushing themselves and each other to the limit. Taku, who has held every other title and won every other tournament in BCG except a GP win and a Royal Rumble victory at The Survivor, pushed really hard but ultimately failed when Funakoshi hit him with a thunderous Butterfly Backbreaker to score the pin and achieve his fourth ever Yoshifusa Maeda Grand Prix win.

In a bout that had superb wrestling and good heat, Funakoshi defeated Yoshinaka Taku in 15:32 by pinfall with a Butterfly Backbreaker. Funakoshi wins the BCG Yoshifusa Maeda Grand Prix title.

<span style="font-size:14px;"><strong>Black Canvas Dojo opens its gates</strong></span></p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

As rumored since their retirement, Masayuki Shiga and Toshinobu Taku have indeed returned in some backstage capacity to Black Canvas Grappling. Just after the end of this year's Yoshifusa Maeda Grand Prix, the announcement was made that Black Canvas Grappling is opening its own dojo, with Shiga as its head trainer and Taku as his assistant. According to insiders, this is the next step in BCG's heavy investment in young, loyal talent and a vote of confidence in the mentorship Shiga and Taku have shown during their time with the company. Already the likes of Motoyuki Miyake, Gidayu Katou, Kiyotaka, Naozane Goto, Eikichi Itou, Shuzo Utagawa and Kyuichi Matsumoto have developed to be dangerous in-ring competitors and a second wave of young lions has already made its presence felt in the likes of Logan Diaz, Jotaro Tanaka and Masato Takizawa, so the promotion's own dojo is only expected to strengthen and enhance this successful tradition.</p>

<p></p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong><span style="font-size:14px;">Epilogue</span></strong></p><p> </p><p>

<img alt="bVKyDwr.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/bVKyDwr.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

It was just after the 2018 Yoshifusa Maeda Grand Prix that Burning Hammer of the Wrestling Gods finally pulled the trigger and bought out Golden Canvas Grappling. They'd been bleeding money for several months and although I was tempted to buy them out and make us the only true representatives of the roaring lion, I just could not invest over 1,5 million when our own promotion was struggling to put a quarter million on the side by the end of the year. Burning Hammer could spend that kind of money, but fortunately they only shut GCG down without buying out its contracts too, so what I did was spend much less to buy back the title belts and hire some of GCG's big name stars.</p><p> </p><p>

The next couple of years were spent balancing out the new roster. Yoshinaka Taku defeated Funakoshi at Test of Champions to continue his path towards being established as the new ace of Black Canvas Grappling. The two would then have a bried feud with GCG's ace in Toshiharu Hyobanshi, who they "chased off" until his Burning Hammer contract kicked in. Meanwhile, Maeda's hand picked protege Hiroyasu Gakusha won the BCG National title off Bulldozer Brandon Smith and had an amazing feud against Bunrakuken Torii, before rising up to fill Hyobanshi's spot as the "outsider" former ace of GCG. Takayuki 2000 helped establish the likes og Motoyuki Miyake, Kiyotaka and Gidayu Katou in the upper midcard. MUSCLE Blasters and Partnership of Pain continued to lead our tag team division. Naozane Goto eventually broke out of Conner Threepwood's shadow to establish himself as a singles competitor. Logan Diaz survived his young lion trials and took his spot alongside Ray Snow and Pavel Vanzycha. We brought in some new talent like Ox Mastadon, Mutant, Mario Da Silva and Shiba Mizoguchi as well as a new crop of young lion dojo graduates with the trademark toughness that Shiga and Toshinobu Taku would instill in them. Thus, me and Maeda could finally call it quits and enjoy our retirement away from the business as Shiga and Taku took the reins. We had finally achieved what we had set out to do. We had won.</p>

Thank you willr0ck and thank you all who read and commented. Also a big thank you to the artists of the re-render community, whose work I used in the portraits and to all the people who nominated and voted this one in the Diary of the Month awards, apparently it won not only the July 2018 CVerse DotM but also this September's award for the Funakoshi vs Giant Brody match in the final Yoshifusa Maeda Grand Prix. Didn't think much of the actual match per se, especially given Brody's performance limitations, but I'm pretty proud of the setup of this final GP and the story told with each round of matches.

That might be interesting, given the fact that I'd have to deactivate the "stay at Regional" cap and hit Cult size to buy them out. With written contracts available, spamming touring shows should be a lot more profitable than when using PPA contracts. Still, my goal was to make BCG sustainable, grow and play out Maeda's revenge against GCG, which I did; carrying on would be a little directionless and I'd rather finish the diary here than keep going until it fizzles out. Still, it was a lot of fun, BCG is still my favourite CVerse promotion in Japan and I do hope it's still around by TEW2020. <img alt=";)" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/wink.png.686f06e511ee1fbf6bdc7d82f6831e53.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p>
