I have been reading this diary off and on for several months -- often I end up binging it to make sure I get caught up. I really enjoy the work you're doing -- and the way you're able manage the touring company elements -- something that has always been a struggle for me.</div></blockquote><p> Thank you for your words of support. The way I'm presenting tour shows now is pretty dense compared to the past so there's usually a lot to catch up with. It's been a challenge coming up with a proper pace for the diary and a good way to write out tour shows, but I'm happy with what I've ended up with. Making a touring company work has been a challenge for a long while, let alone writing a diary based on that and keeping it interesting. It helps that BCG is 100% matches; there's still rivalries and the most basic of storylines, but no extensive angles or character work so that takes a lot of work off the table already, something I'm very thankful for.</p>

Heritage tour press conference</strong></p><p> </p><p>

After officially debuting for Black Canvas Grappling in late December, Irwin Gutmann was present at the press conference and much of the interest around him had to do with the faction he would be joining. With several new wrestlers expected to make their debut within the January tour, the deck is about to be reshuffled and Gutmann is the first such case. While many expected him to join his fellow gaijin in Coast to Coast, the Canadian-German said he believes his style and dedication to his craft would make him a better fit for the Seven Samurai, only to be immediately shot down by faction leader and BCG World Heavyweight champion Funakoshi. Laconically stating that "the Seven will remain just that, seven" the promotion's top man shocked many, Gutmann included, by closing the doors to any new recruits in a move that certainly elevated the faction's prestige but might come back to haunt it once they get to chasing points once more.</p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="rYebwAf.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/rYebwAf.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><p> </p><p>

With Funakoshi's surprise announcement and Coast to Coast evolving from a gaijin group into a group of big powerhouses, Gutmann and three new BCG members Rob Reynolds, Sterling Whitlock and Storm Spillane had no other choice but to join the ranks of Puroresu-gun, expanding it from a Japanese-only group to a multinational army and the largest of three currently in the company.</p><p> </p><p>

After recently crowning a new BCG Challengers Series champion in Animal Harker, the company revealed a new design for the belt during the press conference to much applause. The new title incorporates three sockets for removable medallions and according to BCG officialls, will be handed to the new champion as such; every successful title defense will earn the champion one of the medallions and only once all three have been collected will he be able to vacate the belt for a title shot. As several analysts have commented, the decision should add value and defenses to the title, preventing its depreciation from immediate cash-ins.</p>

I am Goemon Inoue, here to give you a recap of tonight's Heritage tour show and I am delighted to be joined by my usual announcing partner, Shozo Kawamata.</p><p> <strong>Shozo Kawamata:</strong> Hello from me as well and thank you very much, pleasure to be here with you on top of calling the action during the show. Let's get down to it, it's been an exciting start to the year.</p><p> </p><p> <strong>GI:</strong> The opening match was a 3 on 3 battle pitting two factions against each other as members of Seven Samurai and Puroresu-gun clashed in the ring.</p><p> <strong>SK:</strong> Each side had a regular tag team on their ranks as well, with Shiga & Miyake joining Utagawa while newcomer Irwin Gutmann sided with Muscle Blasters.</p><p> <strong>GI:</strong> Having a third partner seemed to throw Miyake off pace, but Utagawa made up for the distraction he caused by showcasing some slick technical wrestling skills, the kind of which his trainers at Ling School would definitely be proud of.</p><p> <strong>SK:</strong> It paid of too in the end, as he was able to catch Serizawa in a sleeper hold until the buff youngster passed out.</p><p> <strong>In a bout that had decent wrestling but didn't have much heat, Seven Samurai (Masayuki Shiga, Motoyuki Miyake and Shuzo Utagawa) defeated Puroresu-gun (Blast Ikoma, MUSCLE Serizawa and Irwin Gutmann) in 10:12 when Shuzo Utagawa defeated MUSCLE Serizawa by submission with a Sleeper Hold.</strong></p><p><strong> Rating: </strong><strong><span style="color:#A0522D;">D+</span></strong></p><p> </p><p> The winners were obviously happy with the outcome and this is what they had to say for their match when interviewed upon returning to the backstage area:</p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="7VXjYUs.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/7VXjYUs.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="S5oggAX.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/S5oggAX.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="dlVXejX.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/dlVXejX.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p> <strong>Shiga:</strong> "It is matches like these that prove the Seven Samurai are truly a group for the elite. My young lion teammates performed admirably tonight and the win was rightfully ours by the end."</p><p> <strong>Miyake:</strong> "I'm so used to teaming up with Shiga-sama it's affecting my ability to wrestle anything besides tag matches these days, it seems. I still have weaknesses to address, but I'm blessed to be in a superb group that was thankfully able to make up for my shortcomings tonight."</p><p> <strong>Utagawa:</strong> "Just being one of the Seven Samurai is a huge honour, let alone wrestle a match with the likes of Shiga-sama and be the one to get the win!"</p><p> </p><p> <strong>GI:</strong> The following match was another 3 on 3 faction war, this time with Coast to Coast fighting Puroresu-gun.</p><p> <strong>SK:</strong> Double K were in there with Matsumoto, facing off against the terrifying power of Goto and Itou who were backed up by Threepwood's considerable technical acumen.</p><p> <strong>GI:</strong> Kiyotaka was the MVP for his team, but it just wasn't enough to carry them to a victory as well. Thanks to a devastating performance from Goto, Coast to Coast got the win when Itou hit his finisher on a stunned Matsumoto.</p><p> <strong>In a bout that had sub-par wrestling and little heat, Coast to Coast (Eikichi Itou, Conner Threepwood and Naozane Goto) defeated Puroresu-gun (Kiyotaka, Gidayu Katou and Kyuichi Matsumoto) in 9:50 when Eikichi Itou defeated Kyuichi Matsumoto by pinfall with an Itou Bomb.</strong></p><p><strong> Rating: </strong><strong><span style="color:#A0522D;">D-</span></strong></p><p> </p><p> With only losses to show for up to that point, Puroresu-gun members were in no mood to make any statements after the match. This is what the winning team had to say:</p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="dQi7xWJ.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/dQi7xWJ.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="VfnB77X.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/VfnB77X.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="CuHyCWZ.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/CuHyCWZ.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p> <strong>Itou:</strong> "Coast to Coast came very close to winning in the rankings last month. This month we made sure to get a good start and I hope we can keep it up until the end."</p><p> <strong>Threepwood:</strong> "It's a new experience leading a team of young lions, but we were victorious and that's all that matters."</p><p> <strong>Goto:</strong> "None can stand against the power of Coast to Coast!"</p><p> </p><p> <strong>GI:</strong> Hokkaido fans were treated to a main event that could have easily headlined a big monthly event as Funakoshi and Bunrakuken Torii went to war.</p><p> <strong>SK:</strong> The BCG World Heavyweight title may have not been on the line, but that didn't make the match any less exciting. Two of BCG's top stars gave it their all and with Torii now free of injury, this match literally blew the roof off of Muroran Hall.</p><p> <strong>GI:</strong> Indeed it did, as even without the title on the line, the two are scheduled to face off for it at BCG Heritage after Torii vacated the Challengers Series title.</p><p> <strong>SK:</strong> And he proved he's every bit worthy and dangerous, as he defeated the champion clean after catching him with a tooth-shattering Spinning Forearm Smash as he bounced off the ropes.</p><p> <strong>GI:</strong> This is the first loss Funakoshi suffers in a singles match since last September and it was Torii again that did it back then.</p><p> <strong>SK:</strong> Looks like the leader of Puroresu-gun is in great form after getting cleared from the doctors and shaking off his niggling injury, this win is a testament to that and should help him build momentum for their big title match in the end of the month.</p><p> <strong>In a bout that had superb wrestling and good heat, Bunrakuken Torii defeated Funakoshi in 17:18 by pinfall with a Spinning Forearm Smash.</strong></p><p><strong> Rating: </strong><strong><span style="color:#2E8B57;">B+</span></strong></p><p> </p><p> Obviously satisfied with himself but completely exhausted after a tough match and a hard earned victory, Torii had little he could say during his interview:</p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="D4Mz47n.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/D4Mz47n.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p> <strong>Torii:</strong> "I will not be denied the title and Puroresu-gun will not be denied their destiny. Battle after battle, we shall win this war and bring the change this place so desperately needs."</p><p> </p><p> <strong>GI:</strong> Three matches to the show and each faction won one, so it's a draw after the first night of the tour.</p><p> <strong>SK:</strong> Still pretty early to make predictions, but I'm willing to say Puroresu-gun are looking good with Torii in great form and a big influx of new members joining their ranks.</p><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="45613" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><p>Seven Samurai: 2</p><p> Puroresu-gun: 2</p><p> Coast to Coast: 2</p></div><p></p><p></p></div></blockquote>

BCG Heritage Tour

Thursday, W1 of January 2017

Shizuoka Sports Hall, Chubu

Attendance: 300 (sold out)

Show Rating: C

Goemon Inoue: Welcome again to another tour show recap! Goemon Inoue here, alongside Shozo Kawamata.

Shozo Kawamata: Another show full of quality matches, as is the standard in Black Canvas Grappling. Let's get to it then.

GI: World Tag Team champions the Partnership of Pain had an easy job in the opening bout, manhandling Gutmann and Matsumoto to victory.

SK: Gutmann was smart to use his technical wrestling skill and submission holds to wear down the big men, but Matsumoto just couldn't keep it up.

GI: It's not just that, Brody and Matsushita have been teaming up for quite some time and they seem to function like clockwork when in a tag match.

In a bout that had decent wrestling but didn't have much heat, Partnership Of Pain defeated Kyuichi Matsumoto and Irwin Gutmann in 7:54 when Giant Brody defeated Kyuichi Matsumoto by pinfall with a Single Handed Choke Slam.

Rating: D+

Unsurprisingly, the champions seemed pretty cocky after picking up another victory.

XebEMH0.jpgvkE7DNZ.jpg

Brody: Gutmann probably thought this is Europe, but his skill doesn't mean anything in Japan if he can't back it up with the warrior spirit of a champion!

Matsushita: It was a nice match tonight, we had competition to keep things interesting for the fans and challenge us somewhat, but there was no way the outcome could have been any different.

GI: Moving on to the second tag match of the night, former champions Team Taku wrestled against the hot new pairing of Kiyotaka and Gidayou Katou.

SK: And what a match that was indeed, so physical and intense it had fans on the edge of their seats from bell to bell!

GI: Despite Yoshinaka Taku's best efforts, he just couldn't save his father from Kiyotaka's kimura and Double K got a big win over the father-son duo.

SK: This should come as little surprise following their clash with Shiga & Miyake at Generations last month and now I think they're on the fast lane for a tag title match.

In a decent match, Double K defeated Team Taku in 10:41 when Kiyotaka defeated Toshinobu Taku by submission with a Kimura.

Rating: C+

32BXfva.jpgMkIWjY4.jpg

Kiyotaka: At Generations, I almost choked out Masayuki Shiga to send him several steps closer to retirement, but had to settle for his young teammate. Tonight I did it to Toshinobu Taku and all the aging veterans better take notice!

Katou: Puroresu-gun is here to make way for the next generation!

GI: The size of Puroresu-gun's membership is becoming apparent, they had someone in every match and that included the main even, featuring the debut of a new signing in Rob Reynolds.

SK: Let me tell you, the deck was stacked against him as he was up against one of the biggest, baddest men in Black Canvas, Bulldozer Brandon Smith.

GI: Reynolds used his kickboxing background to full effect as he tried to eliminate Smith's vertical base, but he just wasn't able to utilize his arsenal of head-dropping moves, suplexes and brainbusters.

SK: Smith had the advantage in terms of size and power, but he also had the psychological advantage because unlike his opponent, he had nothing to prove.

GI: A valid point, Reynolds wanted to start his course in Black Canvas with a big win and that's exactly what he got here, though he had to work very hard and endure inhuman amounts of pain to get it.

In a bout that had good wrestling and a decent reaction from the crowd, Rob Reynolds defeated Bulldozer Brandon Smith in 21:02 by pinfall with a Real Deal Rocker.

Rating: C+

After the match, Rob Reynolds got on the mic to address the audience.

Reynolds: It's good to be back in Japan and it's good to win my first match with Black Canvas Grappling. I want to thank you all for filling every seat in this venue, I'm looking forward to wrestle all the big stars of this company down the road.

GI: Reynolds will indeed be interesting to see against many of BCG's top stars.

SK: His victory brings Puroresu-gun to four points, just as many as Coast to Coast, with Seven Samurai still at two.

Puroresu-gun: 4

Coast to Coast: 4

Seven Samurai: 2

I'm Goemon Inoue for Black Canvas Grappling and I'm joined once again by Shozo Kawamata</p><p> <strong>Shozo Kawamata:</strong> Fans were treated to an exciting event, let's take it match by match.</p><p> </p><p> <strong>GI:</strong> "100% Machine" Yuki Horigoshi clashed in the opener with Conner Threepwood and managed to get the win after hitting his opponent with a decapitating Yuki Rush Lariat.</p><p> <strong>SK:</strong> Horigoshi needed this win after losing to Animal Harker last month, I'm pretty sure he will be shooting for the BCG Challengers Series title soon enough again.</p><p> <strong>GI:</strong> A very strong showing from Threepwood too, despite his loss. He gave his opponent a hard time, made him sweat to earn that victory.</p><p> <strong>In a bout that had sub-par wrestling and little heat, Yuki Horigoshi defeated Conner Threepwood in 9:44 by pinfall with a Yuki Rush Lariat.</strong></p><p><strong> Rating: </strong><strong><span style="color:#A0522D;">D-</span></strong></p><p> </p><p> This is what the winner had to say backstage after the match:</p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="Vi9pn5n.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/Vi9pn5n.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p> <strong>Horigoshi:</strong> It was a hard match, for sure. His opponent was Shuzo Utagawa and what a match they had!</p><p> <strong>SK:</strong> Whitlock has been trained by Alexander Robinson and he is no stranger to puroresu; he has toured Japan already as a member of PGHW and his style draws heavily from classic puro.</p><p> <strong>GI:</strong> Whitlock put on a clinic and to even get in the ring with him, let alone wrestle him for over ten minutes, speaks volumes of Utagawa's skill and determination.</p><p> <strong>In a bout that had decent wrestling but didn't have much heat, Sterling Whitlock defeated Shuzo Utagawa in 11:48 by pinfall with a Whitlock's End.</strong></p><p><strong> Rating: </strong><strong><span style="color:#A0522D;">D+</span></strong></p><p> </p><p> The newcomer had plenty of things to say after the match:</p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="dVZrivn.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/dVZrivn.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p> <strong>Whitlock:</strong> I did not come back to Japan to waste my time in small venues fighting young lions! These fans here don't deserve my excellence! Puroresu-gun, yeah we bring change to this company that's too scared to think big!</p><p> </p><p> <strong>GI:</strong> Whitlock wasn't the only one debuting though. CZCW's Storm Spillane also wrestled a match on this night.</p><p> <strong>SK:</strong> He's also wrestled before in Japan with PGHW.</p><p> <strong>GI:</strong> Eikichi Itou was his opponent and Spillane caught him by surprise with a few aerial high impact moves, but Itou quickly made the best of his superior strength to get back in the match.</p><p> <strong>SK:</strong> I think that was a wake up call for Spillane though.</p><p> <strong>GI:</strong> Indeed, because he proceeded towards a more classic puroresu approach and that's what allowed him to lock in a kneeling variation of his Boston Crab finisher for the tap out.</p><p> <strong>SK:</strong> Pretty disgraceful there, beating a young lion with a Boston Crab.</p><p> <strong>In a decent match, Storm Spillane defeated Eikichi Itou in 12:15 by submission with a Kneeling Boston Crab.</strong></p><p><strong> Rating: </strong><strong><span style="color:#FF8C00;">C-</span></strong></p><p> </p><p> We were able to get some statements from Storm Spillane backstage after his match:</p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="1fN7bAM.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/1fN7bAM.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p> <strong>Spillane:</strong> Itou and I had a great match out there. Far from it, especially since he fought veteran Toshi Taku.</p><p> <strong>GI:</strong> Taku sr. gave him a run for his money, but Spillane was just too fast and energetic for the old timer. After working the legs throughout the match, once he got the Kneeling Boston Crab locked in, Taku had no choice but to tap out.</p><p> <strong>In a decent match, Storm Spillane defeated Toshinobu Taku in 16:25 by submission with a Kneeling Boston Crab.</strong></p><p><strong> Rating: </strong><strong><span style="color:#FF8C00;">C-</span></strong></p><p> </p><p> Fans were in for an exciting announcement from Spillane after the match was over:</p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="1fN7bAM.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/1fN7bAM.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p> <strong>Spillane:</strong> Tonight I beat one half of the former tag team champions. I took all of Reynolds' hits and never faltered, like a true samurai.</p><p> <strong>Utagawa:</strong> It wasn't just skill that brought us victory, it was focus and a cool head. Our opponents fell victims to their own overconfidence.</p><p> </p><p> <strong>GI:</strong> As mentioned before, Shiga & Miyake were set to do battle next, against Muscle Blasters.</p><p> <strong>SK:</strong> Two teams with excellent skills and chemistry, by this point also familiar to teaming up with each other, this match was as exciting as one could expect.</p><p> <strong>GI:</strong> Ikoma looked hellbent on pinning Shiga to prove a point, but it was Miyake who stepped up his performance to get the victory, knocking out Serizawa with a huge head kick.</p><p> <strong>In a decent match, Shiga & Miyake defeated Muscle Blasters in 10:08 when Motoyuki Miyake defeated MUSCLE Serizawa by pinfall with a Knock Out Kick.</strong></p><p><strong> Rating: </strong><strong><span style="color:#FF8C00;">C-</span></strong></p><p> </p><p> It was a costly victory and the winners were exhausted, but they still were kind enough to make a quick comment for us:</p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="7VXjYUs.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/7VXjYUs.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="S5oggAX.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/S5oggAX.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p> <strong>Shiga:</strong> Heritage is coming up this Friday and this young man here is my heritage to Black Canvas. I am overwhelmed with joy if my effort makes him think this way of me.</p><p> </p><p> <strong>GI:</strong> Toshinobu Taku seems to be on a downward spiral as a singles competitor and after losing to Storm Spillane last week, this time he lost to Sterling Whitlock in the co-main event.</p><p> <strong>SK:</strong> Toshi has a lot of things in his head the way things have evolved and his son facing Spillane in the main event only added pressure to him.</p><p> <strong>GI:</strong> Whitlock should be proud for this win and so should his mentor, Alexander Robinson.</p><p> <strong>In a decent match, Sterling Whitlock defeated Toshinobu Taku in 13:49 by pinfall with a Whitlock's End.</strong></p><p><strong> Rating: </strong><strong><span style="color:#A0522D;">D+</span></strong></p><p> </p><p> Once again, Whitlock was both confident and disrespectful in his post-match statement:</p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="dVZrivn.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/dVZrivn.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p> <strong>Whitlock:</strong> Young Lions? Rob Reynolds vs Yuki Horigoshi vs Eikichi Itou vs Kyuichi Matsumoto vs Shuzo Utagawa

Free for all action in the opener to warm up the fans and Puroresu-gun had the advantage with three of their members (Reynolds, Horigoshi and Matsumoto) against Coast to Coast's Eikichi Itou and Utagawa representing the Seven Samurai. Showing little respect for concepts like honor and faction allegiance though, gaijin Rob Reynolds wasn't shy about pinning Matsumoto if it meant winning, a decision that is bound to cause some internal issues for the overblown stable.

In a poor match, Rob Reynolds defeated Eikichi Itou, Kyuichi Matsumoto, Shuzo Utagawa and Yuki Horigoshi in 9:37 when Rob Reynolds defeated Kyuichi Matsumoto by pinfall with a Real Deal Rocker.

Threepwood & Goto (Coast to Coast)

A team from each BCG faction in this elimination match for a chance at the World Tag Team titles and a pretty exciting bout altogether, this one began with the shocking elimination of Threepwood & Goto when Blast Ikoma caught the charging former sumoka into a head crushing DDT for the pin. The remaining two teams went at it sparing no aggression or fighting spirit, but in the end Miyake got the win with a big roundhouse kick to the head of MUSCLE Serizawa.

In a bout that had decent wrestling but didn't have much heat, Shiga & Miyake defeated Muscle Blasters and Threepwood & Goto in 9:31; the order of elimination was Threepwood & Goto first, and then Muscle Blasters.

BCG World Tag Team titles match

Partnership of Pain (Coast to Coast) vs Double K (Puroresu-gun)

A surprisingly good match, showcasing the vast improvement of both teams in it as Partnership of Pain made their third defence of the titles against the up and coming challengers Double K.

In a bout that had good wrestling and a decent reaction from the crowd, Partnership Of Pain defeated Double K in 10:18 when Rokuemon Matsushita defeated Gidayu Katou by pinfall with an One-Handed Choke Slam. Partnership Of Pain make defence number 3 of their BCG World Tag Team titles.

No surprises here, the ageing Toshinobu Taku put out another great performance but ultimately lost to the former BCG World champion after a hard hitting, physical contest.

In a decent match, Bunrakuken Torii defeated Toshinobu Taku in 13:48 by pinfall with a Spinning Forearm Smash.

BCG Challengers Series title match

Bulldozer Brandon Smith (Coast to Coast) vs Sterling Whitlock (Puroresu-gun) vs Yoriie Ippitsusai (Seven Samurai)

After many chances at a singles title but none of them bearing any fruit, Smith was hellbent on making this one count. Smartly focusing his offense on the veteran Ippitsusai, he still made the mistake of underestimating hungry rookie Sterling Whitlock, who put up a great fight and eventually managed to steal the pin.

In a decent match, Sterling Whitlock defeated Bulldozer Brandon Smith and Yoriie Ippitsusai in 13:53 when Sterling Whitlock defeated Yoriie Ippitsusai by pinfall with a Whitlock's End. Sterling Whitlock wins the BCG Challengers Series title.

As proclaimed, Animal Harker cashed in his Challengers Series title shot for a chance at Yoshinaka Taku and the recently introduced BCG National title. While he did put up a valiant effort, it was futile against the unyielding Taku Jr, who sealed his first defence of the strap with a Full Nelson Bomb on the challenger.

In a decent match, Yoshinaka Taku defeated Animal Harker in 21:04 by pinfall with a Full Nelson Bomb. Yoshinaka Taku makes defence number 1 of his BCG National title.

BCG World title match

Funakoshi (Seven Samurai) vs Storm Spillane (Puroresu-gun)

Arguably the best match Black Canvas Grappling has produced in the last couple of years, this half hour epic battle between Funakoshi and Spillane had fans on the edge of their seats as it unfolded. Between supremely stiff strikes, bone crushing submission holds, earth shaking suplexes and head-first drops, the two men went at it with everything they had. Spillane gave the defending champion one of the biggest challenges he has ever faced in recent memory, but Funakoshi's unbeatable samurai spirit carried him through wave after wave of pain and punishment mere men were never meant to go through, let alone endure.

In a bout that had superb wrestling and good heat, Funakoshi defeated Storm Spillane in 30:43 by pinfall with a Butterfly Backbreaker. Funakoshi makes defence number 5 of his BCG World title.

TagMania 4 tour press conference

rYebwAf.jpg

dVZrivn.jpg1fN7bAM.jpghttp://i.imgur.com/CO7PSWX.jpg

Did the three recently signed gaijin just pull out the heist of the century? That's been the question on everyone's minds after the TagMania 4 press conference. Sterling Whitlock announced he will be cashing in Puroresu-gun's point win for a shot at Funakoshi's BCG World title, before he was joined by the man who did just that before him in Storm Spillane. Asked about whether they have been taking advantage of Puroresu-gun since arrival, the two men were joined by Rob Reynolds, whose actions at Heritage have been considered traitorous to say the least, only for the trio to announce their departure from the stable. Dubbed since "The Rogue Troopers" as a nod to Puroresu-gun's militaristic theme, the three men also announced they have signed touring contracts with PGHW, salting the wound of their 'betrayal'.

rYebwAf.jpg

wubglQ4.jpg

The shock of the Rogue Troopers' announcement still in the air, the TagMania trophies were presented next, followed by an announcement of the teams that will be competing in this year's elimination tournament.

POBEZKK.jpgf91Xwo7.jpg

American Demolition Mk. II

Bulldozer Brandon Smith & Animal Harker

Winners of last year's tournament American Demolition Mk.II will be entering this year again. After a year of big singles title matches but no actual title to show for it other than Harker's brief stint as BCG Challengers Series champion, the duo has all the motivation they need for the back to back win.

NM77ZC7.jpg5bss42b.jpg

Team Taku

Toshinobu Taku & Yoshinaka Taku

Former BCG World Tag Team champions Team Taku will be entering the tournament as well, after missing it last year due to being the title holders at the time. The father-son pairing has pretty good odds at winning as long as they can deal with the pressure of Toshinobu's age and Yoshinaka's potential BCG National title challengers.

7VXjYUs.jpgS5oggAX.jpg

Shiga & Miyake

Masayuki Shiga & Motoyuki Miyake

After a great 2016 for both men, the veteran-rookie pairing of Masayuki Shiga and Motoyuki Miyake will be entering this year's TagMania tournament looking to best Shiga's physical decline as well as Miyake's inexperience. The duo would like nothing more than a big win here and perhaps the BCG World Tag Team titles next, a major boost to Miyake's career as well as a big final farewell from the veteran Shiga.

jDRVOCy.jpgP2JXnpv.jpg

Muscle Blasters

Blast Ikoma & MUSCLE Serizawa

Another team formed after TagMania 3 and entering the tournament for the first time, Muscle Blasters had a shaky 2016 with an unsuccessful attempt at the BCG World Tag Team title holders as their highlight. Blast Ikoma and MUSCLE Serizawa will need to brave the odds, as this year's participants are all much more dangerous than those of last year.

32BXfva.jpgMkIWjY4.jpg

Double K

Kyiotaka & Gidayu Katou

Double K may have failed to win the BCG World Tag Team titles at Heritage, but they would like nothing more than a tournament victory leading to a second attempt. Young, skilled and hungry, the pairing of Kiyotaka and Gidayou Katou may very well be the dark horse in this tournament.

VfnB77X.jpgFfwz2MA.jpg

Threepwood & Goto

Conner Threepwood & Naozane Goto

The most recent tag team to be forged in Black Canvas Grappling, the unlikely pairing of gaijin technician Conner Threepwood and former sumoka Naozane Goto has yet to find their footing, but participating in the tournament should be a huge step towards them gelling together.

7r4IhRT.jpgfv4Kbba.jpg

The Ring Generals

Dean Waldorf & Marv Statler

Returning to Black Canvas Grappling after participating in last year's TagMania 3 tournament, the Ring Generals will be hoping to do better this time. The team of Dean Waldorf and Marv Statler have long been considered the premium tag team in the US independent circuit, but despite their reputation and skill were eliminated in the first stage of last year's tournament by Matsuzawa & Shikitei. This year they have promised to be better prepared and may very well surprise both fans and opponents.

apPEfYI.jpgb19ib4M.jpg

Sakata & Kawano

Battle Sakata & Kimi Kawano

Warrior Engine XXV may be known for hardcore deathmatches, but it is also the home of legitimately tough hard hitters, as was evidenced last year when The Berzerkers made it to the finals of the TagMania 3 tournament, only to be defeated by American Demolition Mk.II. This year it will be veteran Battle Sakata and young lion Kimi Kawano representing the promotion, unofficially of course, since Sakata spectacularly quit the promotion in late September 2016.

TagMania 4 tournament brackets

Quarterfinal 1: American Demolition Mk.II vs Shiga & Miyake

Quarterfinal 2: Team Taku vs Threepwood & Goto

Quarterfinal 3: Double K vs Sakata & Kawano

Semifinal 1: Winner of Quarterfinal 1 vs Winner of Quarterfinal 3
