<p>Rip Chord Invitational I, Jan. 2006</p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="xytnMva.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/xytnMva.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><p> Friday, Week 4, January, 2006</p><p> Live at the Stanley Hall</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <strong>Special Pre Show Attraction</strong></p><p><strong> Ten Man Battle Royale</strong></p><p> Featuring: Marv Statler, Dean Waldorf, Al Coleman, Antonio, Stan Manna, Ryan Turner, Kirk Jameson, Ricky Douglas, Oscar Golden, and Rocky Golden</p><p> </p><p> The doors have been open at the Stanley Hall for about twenty minutes when Marv Earnest takes the house microphone. </p><p> </p><p> Marv, “For those of you in attendance, it is time for a special attraction. Ten of Mid Atlantic Wrestling’s finest competitors will be duking it out in an over the top rope battle royale.”</p><p> </p><p> The various music for each wrestler played as they walked down rather quickly. The final three to the ring were the Ring Generals -- who came out together with their manager Boss Man Brayfield and Rocky Golden -- who came out to a good smattering of applause considering the fifty or so people who were in the audience.</p><p> </p><p> It was pretty standard fare for a battle royale. The Ring Generals worked together, focusing their attack on Antonio. The Rock City Stars were the first to get eliminated when Rocky Golden dumped both of them with a double back body drop.</p><p> </p><p> The third elimination was Kirk Jameson, making his debut for MAW, who also got eliminated by Golden. Oscar Golden was eliminated by Ricky Douglas, Coleman was tossed by Rocky Golden. Antonio was managing to hang on despite the two on one assault from the Ring Generals.</p><p> </p><p> Douglas was the next out, leaving us with the final four of Antonio, Golden, and the Ring Generals. The Generals finally got Antonio out, but then the team was dumped out with a double clothesline from Golden, giving Golden the victory and an impressive seven eliminations in the match. Golden posed for a minute or so in the ring, much to the delight of the female fans in attendance, before making his way behind the curtain.</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Winner: Rocky Golden, E+</strong></p><p> </p><p> Seven Thirty hit and the house lights in Stanley Hall go down. Standing next to the ring is Marv Earnest, but unlike at The Night of the Champions, he’s not alone. He’s joined by the owner of Mid Atlantic Wrestling, Rip Chord.</p><p> </p><p> Earnest, “Hello ladies and gentlemen and welcome to the first ever Rip Chord Invitational Tournament! Tonight, eight wrestlers will compete not only for the trophy, not only for the right to be called the Invitation Winner, but they will compete for $7500 of this man’s money. That’s right. Rip Chord has put up $7500 of his own hard earned cash as the prize money for tonight’s tournament.”</p><p> </p><p> Chord, “That’s right Marv. When I started Mid Atlantic Wrestling, I did so with one thing in mind. This Invitational. I wanted the best young talent, the best undiscovered talent, the best unheralded talent in the wrestling world to be given a platform to either make it or break it. Tonight, seven guys will break it. But one? One will leave with $7500 and a whole lot of respect from everyone in the locker room.”</p><p> </p><p> Earnest, “It won’t be an easy task. Whoever wins the $7500 will have to survive three singles contests in one night. But that’s not all folks! The Mean Machine puts his Mid Atlantic Championship on the line against The Pride of the Cherokee Nation, Ace Youngblood. Natural Storm defend their Mid Atlantic Tag Team Championship against Savage Fury, and the Remus Twins are in action against The Gods of Thunder.”</p><p> </p><p> Chord, “If you’re watching this on home video or one of those new fangled digital video devices, you won’t want to miss another live Mid Atlantic Wrestling show. Already tonight, Rocky Golden won a battle royale that was just for the live audience -- and here at Stanley Hall we are proudly serving pizza and sandwiches from Sal’s Slices and Subs -- the most authentic in Baltimore.”</p><p> </p><p> Earnest, “We’re here the fourth Friday of every month. Tonight, I’ll be joined by Rip Chord for the whole evening -- but it’s time for our first contest. It’s tag team action!”</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Tag Team Showcase</strong></p><p> Fifteen Minute Time Limit</p><p> <img alt="zx1E1D9.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/zx1E1D9.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="qHDfurE.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/qHDfurE.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> vs. <img alt="5hKFAts.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/5hKFAts.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="fFZD8mi.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/fFZD8mi.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> w/ <img alt="M1hvSei.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/M1hvSei.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> The Remus Twins are in fact identical. If it wasn’t for the fact the Roderick’s trunks are green with black trim and “Roderick’ across the backside and Remmington’s trunks are black with green trim and his name scrawled across the backside they’d be indistinguishable.</p><p> </p><p> The Gods of Thunder and Persephone are all done up in Greek regalia. Befitting the names. The Twins are giving up a lot of size in this one. Titan starts against Roderick. Roderick comes out like a house of fire, trying to prove that his loss last month against The Mean Machine was a fluke. He’s a flurry of forearms, kicks, and even a leg lariat that almost drops Titan, but the big man is just too big to be taken off his feet for that. </p><p> </p><p> Remmington gets tagged in and comes roaring in for a big right hand that seems to do nothing on Titan. Titan grabs him by the air and throws him half way across the ring to Atlas. The two behemoths go to work. Slow. Methodical. Big slams. Power moves. Quick tags in and out. Persephone calls out instructions from ringside. She’s clearly the coach for this team. She did the game planning and the trio work well together. Remmington keeps trying to get back to Roderick but The Gods of Thunder won’t let him. Atlas locks him in a bear hug. </p><p> </p><p> Remmington manages to break free, goes under Atlas’ legs and makes the tag. Roderick comes flying in and charges towards Atlas, but gets caught with a big boot and then a powerbomb. Jay Fair counts the three as The Gods of Thunder get the victory over the Remus Twins.</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Winners: The Gods of Thunder, E+</strong></p><p> </p><p> Earnest, “What did you think of The Gods of Thunder, Rip?”</p><p> </p><p> Chord, “They are two big, mean sons of guns who are hard to knock off. They remind me of Warlord Agony and Warlord Pain. Two big bruisers who aren’t pretty, but are effective -- and with Persephone guiding them, they could be the top force in our tag team division for some time to come.”</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Rip Chord Invitational Tournament Opening Round</strong></p><p> Twenty Minute Time Limit</p><p> <img alt="r674LWH.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/r674LWH.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> versus <img alt="3MfXyki.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/3MfXyki.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> w/ <img alt="MmdrSbq.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/MmdrSbq.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> Earnest, “Mainstream Hernandez versus Flash Savage is the first contest for the Rip Chord Invitational. Both of these men who love to be the first winner of the tournament, and both would love the $7500 that comes with the victory.”</p><p> </p><p> Chord, “Yes they would, Marv. Hernandez has to be the favorite in this contest. He looked fantastic in the four way tag team bout last month at The Night of the Champions. He’s been training hard for this. He looks in great shape. Flash Savage is no slouch, but Hernandez is going to be hard to beat.”</p><p> </p><p> Mainstream and Flash had a solid, quick match. A lot of back and forth action. Nicole Kiss did a lot of good work at ringside, her and Savage have good chemistry so they definitely played off each other well during the match up.</p><p> </p><p> Mainstream hit the Apparition #14 (Slingblade) on Flash Savage and got the three count to advance into the semi finals.</p><p> </p><p> Earnest, “And Mainstream Hernandez is one match closer to winning the $7500. Good effort from Flash Savage, but he wasn’t able to stop Mainstream Hernandez.”</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Winner: Advancing to the semi finals, Mainstream Hernandez, E+</strong></p><p> </p><p> <strong>Rip Chord Invitational Tournament Opening Round</strong></p><p> Twenty Minute Time Limit</p><p> <img alt="cR3S8UG.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/cR3S8UG.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> versus<img alt="cD4kwus.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/cD4kwus.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> Earnest, “This seems like an unfair first round match up for Des Davids. The rookie, wrestling his first match in Mid Atlantic Wrestling has drawn Sam Keith. I don’t want to count out Des Davids, but it’s going to be a hard mountain to climb.”</p><p> </p><p> Chord, “If anyone is betting against Sam Keith in this tournament, they’re a fool. Twenty-six years of experience as a professional. That is more experience than the rest of the tournament combined. He’s held titles everywhere he’s ever went and he is the current WWA World’s Champion. With all that said, Des Davids is a hell of an athlete. Six-feet-five-inches, two hundred sixty pounds, Marv. This is a man built for competition. He was a standout on the grid-iron and he has all the tools to be a stand out in the squared circle.”</p><p> </p><p> Sam Keith was not expecting the early onslaught from Des Davids. The former college football player didn’t go for the standard starting lock up. Instead he drove his shoulder into Sam Keith’s midsection and into the corner. Several hard body shots and then a big toss from the corner. The crowd roared with approval. They weren’t expecting this either. They were expecting Sam Keith to make short work of Des Davids, but apparently Des did not get the memo.</p><p> </p><p> Sam was able to cut Des off with a thumb to the eye and then went to work. He grounded the power-house. Keeping him down on the mat. Working over his left leg to try and take some power out of Davids.</p><p> </p><p> Davids fought to his feet and backed up into the corner. He pressed three fingers into the mat. He charged towards Sam Keith, who side stepped the Quarterback Sack and rolled Davids up for the three count in a very hard-hitting, fast-paced opening contest.</p><p> </p><p> Chord, “There is no shame in this loss for Des Davids. He looked great. He put Sam Keith on his heels right from the start. He tried to keep the pressure on him for the match. If this is any indication of the kind of wrestler that Des Davids will develop into, the wrestling world better stay on alert.”</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Winner, and advancing to the semi finals, Sam Keith. D</strong></p><p> </p><p> Rip Chord Invitational Opening Round</p><p> Twenty Minute Time Limit</p><p> <img alt="3rXe46E.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/3rXe46E.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> versus <img alt="QVgc5Pg.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/QVgc5Pg.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> Earnest, “Champion versus Parker, who you got, Rip?”</p><p> </p><p> Chord, “This is going to be a tough contest. Steven Parker is as solid a professional wrestler as you will find on this planet. There’s nothing he can’t do. I’ve said it before -- Steven Parker might be the best wrestler on the planet in five years time. He’s that good. Nicky Champion is right there with him. Strong as a horse He’s in great shape. His Hawkeye Hammer can end any match.”</p><p> </p><p> This first round match of the Rip Chord Invitational did not disappoint. It also lived up to Rip Chord’s desire to give young talent a platform to perform. Nicky Champion and Steven Parker are both young. Both looking for the opportunity to prove themselves and they went at it. Parker went for the Future Shock no fewer than three times, but he couldn’t connect on any attempt. Champion used a mostly strike based offense -- lots of chops, forearms, a headbutt and a couple of vertical suplexes before he dispatched Parker with the Hawkeye Hammer (middle rope double axe handle)</p><p> </p><p> Chord, “Well color me surprised.”</p><p> </p><p> Earnest, “I said it last month. Nicky Champion has star written all over him. Steven Parker is a hell of a wrestler but tonight he didn’t get it done. </p><p> </p><p> <strong>Winner: And advancing to the semi-finals, Nicky Champion, E+</strong></p><p> </p><p> <strong>Rip Chord Invitational Opening Round</strong></p><p> Twenty Minute Time Limit</p><p> <img alt="q7d5xM9.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/q7d5xM9.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> w/ <img alt="3WXNb8C.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/3WXNb8C.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />versus <img alt="elhEKWo.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/elhEKWo.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> Earnest, “I know American Buffalo is the most physically imposing wrestler on the Mid Atlantic roster, Rip, but I have to say, I think Strong-a-mania is going to run while tonight. Erik Strong is the underdog in this tournament and I think he’s about to shock the world.”</p><p> </p><p> Chord, “Stranger things have happened.”</p><p> </p><p> Poor Erik Strong. He didn’t deserve the mauling that American Buffalo gave him here. The multiple-time NYCW Empire Champion showed why he is probably the most physically imposing competitor on the MAW roster. With the speed and ferocity of… well, a Buffalo, he made short work of the much smaller Strong -- finishing him off with a big running power slam.</p><p> </p><p> Earnest, “I guess Strong-A-Mania ends here for tonight.”</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Winner: And Advancing to the semi-finals, American Buffalo, D</strong></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <img alt="KAXyuvE.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/KAXyuvE.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> 45 Minute Time Limit</p><p> <img alt="tE0sJQO.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/tE0sJQO.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="Tc9hJbp.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/Tc9hJbp.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> versus <img alt="Zth5O4N.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/Zth5O4N.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="n6l343s.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/n6l343s.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> Earnest, “Natural Storm is in for their biggest test as a tag team so far. The team of Java and Tribal Warrior. These men don’t wrestle like any wrestlers on the roster. Savage Fury is going to push Natural Storm to the limits.”</p><p> </p><p> Chord, “Little known fact. I wrestled one match for Pride, Glory, and Honor Wrestling while Java was on tour there. I sat at the monitor and watched him and Mito Miwa beat the hell out of each other for fifteen minutes DC and Eddie are going to be in for the fight of their lives.”</p><p> </p><p> Savage Fury came out of the gate living up to their name. Java started the match with Eddie Howard and he pummeled him with a barrage of heavy hitting strikes -- particularly forearms. He showcased the viciousness that led him to his successful run as the top gaijin in PGHW for those few years. Tribal Warrior was equally as hard hitting and they really worked over Eddie Howard. </p><p> </p><p> Howard as finally able to make a tag to D.C. Rayne who came him like a man possessed. Both members of Savage Fury took some good offense from D.C. Java got dumped to the outside and D.C. and Eddie hit Tribal Warrior with the Middle Rope Leg Drop While Over the Knee that they are now calling ‘Storm Rising’.</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Winners: and STILL MAW Tag Team Champions, Natural Storm, D-</strong></p><p> </p><p> <strong>Rip Chord Invitational Semi-Final</strong></p><p> <img alt="3rXe46E.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/3rXe46E.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> versus <img alt="q7d5xM9.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/q7d5xM9.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> w/ <img alt="3WXNb8C.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/3WXNb8C.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> Nicky Champion and American Buffalo start in a very physical fashion. Buffalo suplexed, slammed, and forearmed Champion all around the ring. The first several minutes of the match were all American Buffalo. He showcased the physicality, strength, and raw ability that has made him a multi-time Empire Champion.</p><p> </p><p> Earnest, “Champion’s rise may be stopping here. American Buffalo is just too big. He’s too strong. He’s too physical. I don’t care who you are in wrestling, trying to go toe-to-toe with a man over three hundred pounds who can move with the speed and power that American Buffalo moves with is near impossible.”</p><p> </p><p> Chord, “American Buffalo is one of those guys who has ben on the cusp of superstardom for years. Ten years he’s been in this sport. He’s been a dominant figure for most of those ten years. I think he’s foreshadowing that his time here in MAW is going to be just as dominant as his time in New York has been.”</p><p> </p><p> Champion ducks a running clothesline and fires off a big right hand and then a second right hand and then a third. The third right hand sends Buffalo into the ropes, he bounces back and Champion impressively hits a big powerslam on the big man. The impact from the slam almost shakes the 18x18 ring that MAW uses.</p><p> </p><p> Champion climbed to the middle rope and when American Buffalo rose, Champion connected with the Hawkeye Hammer and got the pinfall.</p><p> </p><p> Earnest, “If you would have told me at the start of the night that Nicky Champion would have beaten both Steven Parker and American Buffalo and would be going to the finals of the Invitational, I would have told you that you were crazy. I didn’t think he had nearly enough experience -- and drawing both Parker and Buffalo just to get to the finals made me think it was going to be impossible.”</p><p> </p><p> Chord, “This is pro wrestling Marv, anything is possible. All it takes is a lucky break and three seconds -- and right now the luck seems to be breaking for Nicky Champion. He’s one step closer to being $7500 richer.”</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Winner, Advancing to the finals, Nicky Champion, D-</strong></p><p> </p><p> <strong>Rip Chord Invitational Semi-Finals</strong></p><p> <img alt="r674LWH.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/r674LWH.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> versus <img alt="cD4kwus.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/cD4kwus.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> Earnest, “Mainstream Hernandez has the toughest obstacle in his two year career tonight. If he wants to get to Nicky Champion and $7500, he has to get through Sam Keith. If he wants to be the first ever Rip Chord Invitational Winner, he has to get through a man that has held the top title in every company he’s been in -- companies in Mexico, Japan, Canada, and the United States. This is a man who defeated Luis Montero. A man who pinned Dread. Who made Yoshinnaka Toshusai tap out.”</p><p> </p><p> Chord, “Easy Marv, we don’t need to give out his whole resume. Yes, Sam Keith is very good. One of the greatest of all time. A wrestler’s wrestler. His Proton Lock has come close to ending careers and is probably the most feared submission hold in wrestling history. Mainstream has his work cut out for him here. He doesn’t just have to survive Sam Keith, he has to defeat Sam Keith.”</p><p> </p><p> Sam Keith and Mainstream battled it out in a grueling contest. Keith kept the match on the ground for most of it. Controlling Mainstream with a variety of leg submissions designed to soften him up for the Proton Lock -- or at least to take some explosiveness out of Mainstream’s offense. Mainstream kept fighting up to his feet, kept throwing everything he could at the twenty-six year professional. He hit a superkick on Sam Keith that got him a two-and-a-half from referee Jay Fair.</p><p> </p><p> After the superkick, the fans really started to come alive. Mainstream hit a snap suplex and then a diving elbow from the top rope for another near fall. He backed up and called Sam Keith to his feet. He launched himself at Sam and went for the Apparition #14, but Sam ducked out of the way and Mainstream accidently headbutt Jay Fair. Fair turned around, grabbing his head. With Fair distracted from the headbutt, Sam Keith field-goal kicked Mainstream in the private region and then DDTed him. He was pinning him when Jay Fair turned around and counted the one. Two. three.</p><p> </p><p> Earnest, “I can’t believe it. I can’t believe Sam Keith had to resort to a low blow when the referee’s back was turned in order to beat Mainstream. You’re the WWA World Champion, Sam. You’re supposed to be better than that!”</p><p> </p><p> Chord, “The name of the game is win. That’s what Sam Keith just did. He won. You don’t have to like it, but he did it -- and now he’s going to face Nicky Champion with $7500 on the line.”</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Winner, and advancing to the finals, Sam Keith, D+</strong></p><p> </p><p> <img alt="8zfz0ew.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/8zfz0ew.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> Sixty Minute Time Limit</p><p> <img alt="TVaJZ8i.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/TVaJZ8i.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> versus <img alt="T8ZMaKi.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/T8ZMaKi.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> Earnest, “We have had a fantastic night of wrestling so far and it is now time for our co-main event of the evening. The Mean Machine puts his Mid Atlantic Championship on the line against the Pride of the Cherokee Nation, Ace Youngblood.”</p><p> </p><p> Chord, “It’s the first time we’ve seen Ace Youngblood in action here in Mid Atlantic Wrestling, but he qualified for this title opportunity by winning a match in Canada with our friends 4C Wrestling. That match was for a title shot in any company in the World Wrestling Alliance. He chose the Mid Atlantic Championship, because he believes The Mean Machine to be the toughest champion to beat.”</p><p> </p><p> Earnest, “We’re about to find out if that was a wise choice or not.”</p><p> </p><p> Ace Youngblood is the first through the curtain. His music sounds like the beating of a war drum. He’s dressed for war. The top half of his face his painted red. A white line goes across his face at the bottom of the red paint. Smaller white lines come down vertically from the base white stripe. He’s wearing a band around his head with feathers coming off of it -- not a full blown war bonnet but with the paint on his face.</p><p> </p><p> Next out is The Mean Machine. . He has the Mid Atlantic Wrestling Championship over his shoulder. He’s staring at the ring. Staring at his opponent. The crowd is already alive, already excited. The tournament has been excellent so far, the last match really got them buzzing and now with just the entrances the 124 people who came to the Stanley Hall to see this show are fully entranced in the spectacle of wrestling.</p><p> </p><p> The match starts with the standard collar-elbow tie up. Unlike last month, when Machine was able to power Remus back, Youngblood is not so easily pushed around. After fifteen seconds of jockeying for control of the tie-up, they break. Machine takes a few steps back and looks Youngblood up and down, evaluating him.</p><p> </p><p> Earnest, “Machine is used to being able to use his power when he’s in a lock up. Using his size and his solid two-hundred forty-five pounds to back wrestlers up. Especially some of the smaller wrestlers he encounters. Ace Youngblood is not so easily pushed around. He’s two hundred forty pounds himself, so he’s only giving up five pounds. He’s also got a great natural strength.”</p><p> </p><p> Chord, “It’s what has allowed him to be successful so far in his short career. Two years into the wrestling business and he’s competing for the top championship in a company against a guy like The Mean Machine. That only happens when you’re a skilled professional -- which Ace Youngblood is and would you look at that knife-edge chop he just hit Machine with! He hit him so hard I think it’s echoing off the walls here at the Stanley Hall. A second. A third. Ace Youngblood is trying to cave Mean Machine’s chest in!”</p><p> </p><p> Machine tries to get away from Youngblood, but is unsuccesful in doing so. Blood keeps laying it in. Hard chop after hard chop. He follows the chops up with a forearm that sends Machine back into the corner. Referee Jay Fair demands a break, but Youngblood grabs Machine’s left wrist and yanks back -- putting all his weight into sending Machine flying across the ring and crashing into the opposite turnbuckles. Machine bounces out of the corner, Youngblood hits the ropes and comes charging off them, leaping up he nails the top of Machine’s head with a flying tomahawk chop. Machine hits the mat and immediately rolls underneath the bottom rope to the outside of the ring.</p><p> </p><p> Youngblood starts to head out after him, but Fair holds him back, warning him to stay in the ring so that he can administer the count. This buys Machine some precious time to collect himself on the outside as Fair counts.</p><p> </p><p> Earnest, “The ring awareness of The Mean Machine is showing right here. He knew he needed a moment to catch his breath, needed to slow down the attack of Ace Youngblood who was really getting rolling -- so he got out of the ring and got some separation.”</p><p> </p><p> Chord, “That’s the kind of awareness that only comes with experience, Marv. That’s why experience is so important. Not only does it allow you to better game plan for your opponents because you’ve seen more action in the ring, it also allows you to think better in the ring. You’ve got to know where you are. You’ve got to know how to get those breathing breaks when you need one. “</p><p> </p><p> Machine is able to get his wind back and gets back in the ring. Youngblood comes charging, but Machine leans through the ropes, technically putting him ‘out of bounds’. Fair slides in front of Youngblood to keep him from making contact with Machine, who takes the opportunity to shove his thumb in Youngblood’s eye. Youngblood stumbles away and Machine takes full control. He’s targeting the lower back of his challenger, the same way he targeted the lower back of Roderick Remus. He’s trying to soften him up, trying to weaken him.</p><p> </p><p> Several forearms to the back, a sidewalk slam followed by a bow-and-arrow lock. Even a series of headbutts to the locker back. An elbow drop to the back. Youngblood is in a world of trouble. His back has to be on fire. Machine places his knee in the small of Youngblood’s back and locks in a modified single-legged crab that causes Youngblood to howl in pain.</p><p> </p><p> Earnest, “Mean Machine is where he likes to be now. In control, working over a part of an opponent’s body. Right now, it’s the lower back. Softening him up for the Mood Swing. Trying to get Youngblood into a position that he can get the victory.”</p><p> </p><p> Chord, “Let’s not overlook the precision of all of Machine’s moves. He’s got a single-legged Boston Crab locked in right now. A pretty standard wrestling hold that can cause a lot of pain, particularly in the lower back and the hip as the leg is stretched and the weight of the applier is put on the victim. Notice the way Machine has his knee in the lower back instead of straddling Youngblood. This allows him to bend the leg back further -- bending the back over his knee, creating a much more targeted hold as well as increasing the amount of pain that Youngblood has to be in.”</p><p> </p><p> Youngblood’s fingers dig into the canvas and he starts to pull himself to the bottom rope. It doesn’t happen immediately. It takes time for him to get there, but he manages to get his hand on the bottom rope which causes referee Jay Fair to demand the break.</p><p> </p><p> Machine gives the break -- granted, it takes until a count of four from Fair, but he gives the break. He pulls Ace Youngblood away from the ropes and whips him off into the ropes, Youngblood comes rebounding back and gets caught in the Mood Swing.</p><p> </p><p> Fair counts the one, two, three.</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Winner, And STILL Mid Atlantic Champion, THE MEAN MACHINE, D.</strong></p><p> </p><p> Sam Keith comes out to the ring first. No music. He’s holding a microphone in his hand.</p><p> </p><p> Keith, “Tonight, I end the upstart revolution. Tonight, I cement myself as the most dominant force in the world. Last month I won the World’s Title. Tonight, I win the Rip Chord Invitational Tournament. Tonight I win $7500. And it’s not even $7500 I need. I spent $7500 last week getting my boys brand new custom made suits to wear to the winter formal. $7500 is a drop in the bucket to me. It’s not about the money for me. It’s about proving that it I’m still the best wrestler on the planet.”</p><p> </p><p> Sam steps in between the ropes. </p><p> </p><p> “There is all this talk about the new generation. There is talk that wrestling is under a revolution. The old guard is on their way out. Strong retired. Chord retired. They say guys like me are on my way out. How could I still be the best after twenty-six years in this sport? Well Des Davids found out. Mainstream Hernandez found out. Now Nicky Champion is about to find out. Sam Keith is pro wrestling.”</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Sam Keith drops the microphone and turns to await the arrival of his opponent. B-</strong></p><p> </p><p> <strong>Main Event</strong></p><p> 60 Minute Time Limit</p><p> <img alt="eDXzm9W.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/eDXzm9W.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> <img alt="3rXe46E.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/3rXe46E.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> versus <img alt="cD4kwus.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/cD4kwus.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> Earnest, “It is time for our main event of the evening. We started with eight men. We are down to the final two. Nicky Champion had to best Steven Parker. He had to survive American Buffalo. And now he has one last challenge in front of him. Sam Keith. </p><p> </p><p> Sam beat Des Davids. He beat Mianstream Hernandez and now he is one match away from cementing himself as the top wrestler on the independent wrestling scene. He’s been traveling all over the world as World’s Champion. He’s been to England twice this month. He’s been to California. His February bookings are filling up. Tonight he has to show that after twenty-six years in this sport he can still wrestle three times in one night. That he can still take three matches worth of punishment and come out on top.”</p><p> </p><p> Chord, “I said at the very beginning that you would be a fool to pick against Sam Keith in this tournament. Here he is in the finals. The Cinderella run of Nicky Champion is going up against its toughest challenge now. This is not a match anyone is going to want to miss. Every fan here is in their seats right now.”</p><p> </p><p> Champion slowly makes his way to the ring. He’s been in some wars tonight. Parker and Buffalo pushed him to the limit and he looks like it. He’s walking with a bit of a limp. His left hand is cradling his neck from where Parker worked on it and where Buffalo subsequently added even more damage. </p><p> </p><p> Referee Jay Fair holds up the Rip Chord Invitational Trophy. He lets both competitors see it. He lets the fans see it. And then he checks both men. He calls for the bell and the finals officially start. </p><p> </p><p> Keith wastes no time. He cuts across the ring and goes to work on Nicky Champion. Normally Keith targets the knee, but he goes right after the neck. A standing front face lock from Keith has Champion drop down to a knee. He pushes himself back up and pushes Keith back into the corner. </p><p> </p><p> This gets a clean break from both men, but Keith immediately goes back on the attack. A neckbreaker grounds Champion. Then a knee drop to the neck and then a seated front face lock. </p><p> </p><p> Earnest, “Rip, a lot of fans at home do not know the severity of the front face lock. How dangerous of a move is it?”</p><p> </p><p> Chord, “Honestly? In my opinion it is the single most dangerous hold in wrestling. A front face lock, when applied correctly, puts so much pressure on the neck. It can make it hard to breathe. Notice the way Sam is bridging up with his lower body. He’s making Nicky Champion carry his weight on his neck. He’s driving Champion’s face further into the mat, making it harder to get a deep breath. Making it require more energy for Champion to break the hold. Very smart veteran strategy from Sam Keith.”</p><p> </p><p> Nicky balls his fists and pushes them into the mat. He pushes up, getting to his knees though the face lock is still applied. Nicky pushes more and gets back to his feet. He wraps his arms around Sam’s waist and explodes up, turning Sam’s front face lock into a Northern Lights Suplex. He bridges and gets a two count before Sam releases the face lock and gets his shoulder off the mat. </p><p> </p><p> Champion rolls back to his feet but Keith knees him in the gut almost immediately and hits another neckbreaker and this time goes for the cover. He gets a one and a half before Champion kicks out. A running leg drop gets another one and a half. Keith pulls Champion to his feet and takes him over with a snap suplex that he follows up with a leaping standing elbow drop to the back of the neck and a two count. </p><p> </p><p> Keith pulls Champion back to his feet and kicks him in the gut to double him over. He backs up and charges forward, looking for a knee lift but Champion counters with a clothesline that looks like it took Sam Keith’s head off. Champion falls on top of Sam for the cover. He gets a two before Keith kicks out. </p><p> </p><p> The crowd starts to really come alive as Champion pulls himself and Sam Keith to their feet. Big right hand sends Keith stumbling across the ring. Champion roars and hits the ropes. He comes charging towards Keith but Sam throws a big knee into the midsection if Champion, stomping his momentum in his tracks. He pulls Champion to the center of the ring and lifts him upside down before sitting out, driving Nicky Champion head first into the mat with a pile driver. Sam makes the cover. </p><p> </p><p> One. Two. Thr… No! Champion kicks out. </p><p> </p><p> Earnest, “I can’t believe it. Nicky Champion kicked out! Some how. Some way, Nicky Champion found a way to get his shoulder off the mat before Jay Fair counted the three.”</p><p> </p><p> Chord, “When you want something bad enough, you’d be surprised how much toughness you can find.” </p><p> </p><p> Sam looks at Jay Fair in disbelief. He holds up three fingers but Fair holds up two fingers and insists that Champion got his shoulders off the mat. Sam pulls Nicky back to his feet and sets him up for another piledriver. Champion counters with a desperation back body drop. Champion stumbles forward to the corner and climbs onto the middle rope. Keith staggered to his feet and turns around just in time to see Champion leap off the second rope and drive his hands into the top of Sam’s head with the Hawkeye Hammer. The crowd explodes as Champion falls on top of Sam Keith and Jay Fair counts. </p><p> </p><p> One. Two. Three!</p><p> </p><p> The crowd explodes as the bell rings and Champion rolls off of Sam Keith. </p><p> </p><p> <strong>Winner of the Rip Chord Invitational Tournament, Nicky Champion, D</strong></p><p> </p><p> Earnest, “Nicky Champion has done it. Nicky Champion has beaten Sam Keith and won the Rip Chord Invitational! </p><p> </p><p> Chord, “I can’t believe it. I thought Sam had this in the bag but I was wrong. Congratulations to Nicky Champion. I suppose I should give him his money and trophy now.”</p><p> </p><p> Chord enters the ring and hands Nicky Champion a check for $7500 and the trophy. Champion holds them both over his head. </p><p> </p><p> Earnest, “What a night it has been here at the Stanley Hall! If you weren’t here tonight, don’t miss in February! For Rip Chord and Mid Atlantic Wrestling, I’m Marv Earnest. Really good shows, I am loving it, Nicky champion for the ace!:D

I'm glad to hear! I'm really having a blast writing it. It's been incredibly fun and helped break through the writing funk I've been in on some other writing projects.

I've actually never booked Nicky Champion before -- outside of maybe a handful of matches. In recent games I've never been able to sign him (I rarely play as a company that's Cult or higher unless I've got them there and by then he's locked up into long term contracts) and when I'd gotten him before he would get signed out from under me. So it's been fun having him.

A video of Boss Man Brayfield...

3WXNb8C.jpg

Hello Mid Atlantic Wrestling. I'm so pleased to be recordin' this video for y'all today. I've got some real excitin' news. Y'see, I've been scouring the country. Scouring for something in particular. See, I've already got the contract to the best tag team in wrestlin' today, The Ring Generals. I've already got the contract to the biggest, meanest, nastiest son of a gun out there in American Buffalo. But I feel like I've been missin' something. I've always been a fan of even numbers and three just ain't even. So I started travelin' all over this country. And that's when I find him.

I heard stories. I heard stories of this man down in the swamps of Georgia. This man built like a swamp ape. Scary. Nasty. Strong and vicious. The kind of man that should be hurtin' people fo' a living. Now, I've lived my whole life taking these kind o' men and makin' them some money. Making them money off lettin' them just be the vicious bastards they've been their whole lives.

I went down to the swamps of Georgia and I found this Swamp Ape. He's big, baby. He's bad. He's nasty. And he's comin' to Mid Atlantic Wrestlin'. I can't wait for y'all to meet him. Just don't get too close. He might bite."

The video ends.

Staring: BvUUaPN.jpg and Ig7TbQS.jpg

“Did you hear?” Rip Chord said as he walked into Sam Keith’s office on Tuesday, the first week of February, 2006.

Sam Keith looked up from his notes finalizing the February card. “Did I hear what?”

Chord grins. “There’s a new wrestling company in Vegas.”

Keith, “There is?”

Chord, “Yep.”

Keith, “Details?”

Chord, “A woman’s company.”

Keith, “I’m sure Anne is going to love that.”

Chord, “Well, I don’t think they’re going to be in direct competition.”

Keith, “Why not?”

Chord, “Well first they are called Babes of Sin City Wrestling. Second, they’re supposed to be big on the TnA. Not the actual wrestling. Anne may not like the product, but I don’t see a lot of cross-appeal in their core audiences.”

Keith, “Well. I know something to avoid when I’m in Vegas next time.”

Chord, “Ah… Not really.”

Keith, “And why?”

Chord, “Well. Brayfield is going to be their booker. And they’ve got a girl I’m bringing in.”

Keith, “But we don’t have a women’s roster.”

Chord, “She’s not a wrestler.”

Keith, “Then what is she?”

Chord, “Color commentator. She’ll work with Marv. Her name is Sara. Sara Silver. Brayfield recommended her. Said she’ll be great -- she’s done great in their test sessions, wants her to have more work.”

Keith, “But you did great at the Invitational. We could just use you.”

Chord, “I’m not a color commentator. I’m a backstage guy. I can do it occasionally.. For things like the Invitational, but I don’t want to be in front of the crowd that often. I want it to be special when they see me. Plus, you need me to time the shows. To give guys their cues.”

Keith, “Alright. I’ll give her a shot.”

Chord, “It’s not like you had a choice. Did you see the new guy from Georgia is already here?”

Keith, “Yeah, I’m going to pair him with Brayfield. Have him be the fourth guy in his little stable of guys.”

Chord, “Good. I like that. Protect him. I see dollar signs all over that kid. In a year, two years, he could be the top independent wrestler. He’s going to be big money.”

Keith, “Don’t worry. I’ll take care of him.”

Chord grinned and clapped Sam on the shoulder. “I know you will. You’re doing damn good, by the way. I’m beyond pleased with our progress. We’re making steady gains in popularity. Jay told me our website traffic has gone up.”

Sam cocked his head. “How would he know?”

Chord shrugged, “He built the damn thing.”

Sam laughed. “Your kid is our web-master?”

Chord, “Uh. I’m not sure what that means? But he is the guy in charge of our website. He’s pretty handy, that little snot. When he’s not causing a ruckus with the girls at school. I’m telling you. That kid is going to send me to an early grave.”

Sam, “Tell you about it? I’ve got Greg and Matt. Both on the high school wrestling. They’re looking like they’re going to qualify for state. But they’re in the same weight class. Might have to wrestle each other for the state title. Can you imagine the pissing contest that’s going to bring?”

Chord, “You think they’ll make it that far?”

Sam, “Yeah. Greg has better technique, but Matt’s stronger. They’re both undefeated in meets so far, since they’re on the same team -- they’ve managed to avoid each other. But I won’t let either cut weight, because that’s just not good for them.”

Chord, “I wish Jay played a sport. He chases tail. He comes in here and gets in the ring. Flies around Says he’s going to follow in my footsteps. If he does, I hope he doesn’t raise too much hell. Last thing I need is a grandbaby right now.”

Sam just laughed. “These kids will be the death of us. I just hope Samantha keeps her head on straight. She’s straight A’s right now. Good kid. Volleyball team. Doesn’t seem too interested in boys right now. Hopefully it stays that way”

Chord, “Hopefully.”

There is a long moment of silence as both men stand there. It’s an odd thing being a father. It’s an even odder thing being a father in the wrestling business. You’re not home all that often. You watch your kids grow up from a distance. Then suddenly you’re home more. You get to play the parent role more often and it’s a tough transition. They each shake their heads, coming out of their silence.

Chord, “Anyway. Keep up the good work. You going to be around this month?”

Sam moved his hand from side to side. “A bit. I’m going to England for 21CW and to Canada for 4C. Other than that I’ll be here.”

Chord, “Good. We like having you around.”

Sam smiled. “I like being around.”

Chord nodded, slapped the door frame and walked out. Sam leaned back in his chair and just shook his head.

MAW Presents: Wrestling Classic 06, Feb 2006

rbtsWuZ.jpg

Live from Stanley Hall

qHDfurE.jpgzx1E1D9.jpg versus 9VBMyBf.jpg9WhIRZU.jpg w/ YZZRdb0.jpg

Both teams in dire need of a victory here. They’ve both been struggling with the Remus Twins losing at the Rip Chord Invitational to the Gods of Thunder and the Rock City Stars having lost in December and then both losing in the battle royal at the Invitational.

The Rock City Stars came out hot early on, keeping Roderick in the ring and isolating him from his brother Remmington. They showcased some solid, but unspectacular team work. They hit a couple of double snap suplexes. Roderick was able to duck under a clothesline and hit a big standing dropkick on Stan Manna that gave him the opening to tag in Remus.

Remus came in with a clothesline for Stan, and then a close line for Ryan. Then a dropkick for Stan and then one for Ryan. Roderick came back in and they hit a Double Brainbuster on Stan and Remus got the pin.

Winners: The Remus Twins, E+

Mainstream Hernandez came to the ring in street clothes -- a pair of khaki pants and a MAW “Wrestling the Way You Like It” t-shirt. He gets into the ring and takes a microphone from Marv Earnest.

Hernandez, “Firstly, I want to apologize to everyone in the audience tonight. I’m in a foul mood. Last month, I had the opportunity of a lifetime. I had a chance to win $7500. That’s a lot of money. Those are bills I could pay, groceries I could buy, a nest-egg I could begin to build up. I was close. I was in the semi finals. I was in the ring with Sam Keith. More than being in the ring with him, I had him on the ropes. I had him just moments away from losing when he hit me with a low blow. Moments away before he ripped it from me by having to go below the belt.

“If I had lost cleanly. If I had lost because Sam just out wrestled me -- had just been better than me. I would be okay with it. This is wrestling, sometimes you just get beat -- I can’t be mad at that. I can be mad at being cheated out of $7500 though. I can be mad at someone ripping it from me.

“I was told Sam Keith isn’t here tonight. That’s he’s still upset that Nicky Champion beat him, so he’s hiding out. But next month, I want you in a one on one match, Sam. I want you to prove you can beat me without cheating. Man to man, Sam, let’s find out who is really the better man!”

Hernandez dropped the microphone and headed back to the back. D-

eDjItuo.jpg versus 3WXNb8C.jpg

Antonio was the first out to the ring. He looked a little nervous, but no wrestler likes to go into a match without knowing who their opponent is, so that’s perfectly natural. Boss Man Brayfield comes out from behind the curtain.

Brayfield, “Ladies and gentlemen, I promised you somethin’ special. I promised you someone special. I told you I’d found the biggest, meanest, nastiest wrestler around. Someone who just likes to hurt people. Someone who is gonna hurt a lot of people here in Mid Atlantic Wrestling. I’d like to formally introduce y’all to the Swamp Ape. From Georgia. His name is Findlay!”

jzDRoJ1.jpg

The curtain is pushed aside and the man called Findlay. He’s a big, big boy. About as big as Rocky Golden -- though he doesn’t have the definition of Golden, instead he’s barreled chested and built like someone you would find out in the middle of nowhere. Solid as a rock, big as a mountain. He snarls as Brayfield points to the ring.

Findlay marches to the ring, rolls in, and Antonio immediately rushes him, but Findlay counters the rush with a big boot right to the face. The boot drops Antonio to the mat. He cradles his face as Findlay picks him back up and tosses him into the ropes. Antonio comes rushing back and gets lifted high into the air before being slammed into the mat with an Atomic Spinebuster.

Findlay makes the cover, 1. 2. 3.

Winner: Findlay, D-

cR3S8UG.jpg vs. wG9pm3b.jpg

A very solid contest between two youngers. Jameson, from Boston, showed great technical acumen as he targeted the bigger Davids’ legs, trying to chop the former stand out college football player down to size.

Davids kept fighting back, his strength and raw power keeping him in the match. Jameson went for a big chop block but Davids leapt over the attempt. Jameson turned around and got caught with a big shoulder tackle that hit with enough force that it almost took Kirk out of his boots. Davids lifted Jameson up and hit him with a big gorilla press slam. Jameson struggled back to his feet and ducked an attempted lariat. He single-legged Davids and went to lock in the Kirk Lock [Texas Cloverleaf].

Davids’ lower body was too strong. He flipped Jameson off and got back to his feet. Jameson went for a lariat of his own but Davids ducked under it, hit the ropes on the opposite side, came roaring back and flipped Jameson inside out when he hit him with the Quarterback Sack [Pounce]. He made the cover and got the 1. 2. 3.

Winner, Des Davids. D.

3rXe46E.jpgTVaJZ8i.jpg versus tE0sJQO.jpgTc9hJbp.jpg

Savage Fury was making their second MAW appearance here -- having been unsuccessful in their challenge of Natural Storm for the Mid Atlantic Tag Team Championships. Java and Youngblood started the match off -- with Ace looking to establish himself early on. Java wouldn’t let him though, and the much more experienced team took control of the match, isolating Youngblood from Champion.

Unlike our first tag team match of the evening, Savage Fury showed fluid -- if not, well, savage, tag team combinations. They hit a double stalling vertical suplex on Ace Youngblood, and trapped him in the corner where they each unloaded a series of hard chops and forearms that sounded like they were blistering Youngblood’s chest. It was definitely bright red when they were done. They hit a snap suplex middle rope headbutt combo that got them a near fall, but Youngblood was able to kick out.

Tribal Warrior went for a running mafia kick, but Youngblood pulled himself out of the way and hit a desperation rolling elbow that dropped Warrior and allowed Youngblood to make a diving tag to the 2006 Rip Chord Invitational Winner, Nicky Champion.

Champion came in like a house of fire. Lariat. Lariat. Back elbow. Back elbow. Atomic drop, atomic drop. Champion hit Warrior and Java with the exact same offense, rotating between each one. He hit smacked their heads together and then climbed to the middle rope where he hit a modified version of the Hawkeye Hammer -- hitting each of them with a single axe instead of the one double axe! Champion made the cover on Tribal Warrior and got the one, two three.

Winners, Nicky Champion and Ace Youngblood. D-

Champion and Youngblood were celebrating their victory when The A* Alliance, Ricky Douglas and Steven Parker, hit the ring behind Champion and Youngblood. They immediately attacked them, with Parker going after Champion -- who eliminated him from the Rip Chord Invitational, and Douglas went after Youngblood. They put the boots to them as trainees acting as security guards hit the ring and tried to pull them apart -- Parker and Douglas dropped several of them before Parker hit Champion with the Future Shock and Douglas hit Youngblood with his own Future Shock. They rolled out of the ring, high fived and headed to the back while trainees checked on the downed Champion and Youngblood.

Post Match beatdown, E.

kcFotFm.jpg versus eMOdHb4.jpg

Golden, fresh off his battle royal win came out looking to make short work of Al Coleman. Coleman was looking to get himself back on track here in MAW and get his first victory in several months. Coleman jumped Golden as soon as he got in the ring -- not letting him get situated. Coleman put the boots to Golden and even pulled him into the center of the ring and looked like he wanted to try and hit the much bigger man with a powerbomb, or piledriver -- but Goldman stood straight up and flipped Coleman over him.

Al hit the mat and bounced up, turned around and got a boot to the gut and was hoisted into the air and slammed him down to the mat with his version of the Powerbomb -- he calls it the Rocky Road. Rocky made the cover and got the three count.

Winner: Rocky Golden, E

KAXyuvE.jpg

5hKFAts.jpgfFZD8mi.jpg w/ M1hvSei.jpg versus Zth5O4N.jpgn6l343s.jpg

Atlas and Titan were fired up for their first opportunity to win championship gold in Mid Atlantic Wrestling. After their win last month over the Remus Twins, they were riding hide. Natural Storm came out fired up -- they survived a four way dance, they survived Savage Fury, and now they have another monster team -- though this one is a little less experienced than Savage Fury.

DC and Eddie came out after Atlas (who started the match). They targeted his knee. Both going to work on it, making tags back and forth to keep the fresh man in, knowing that working the bigger, larger athlete required each of them to get good breaks for oxygen. Persephone yelled instructions out, trying to get Atlas to power up and get to Titan. Eddie pulled Atlas to his feet and went for a snap suplex -- but this was not a great idea as Atlas countered and suplexed Eddie, but Eddie hit the ropes while he was upside down and fell to the mat. This gave Atlas the opening to make the tag to Titan.

Titan came in and immediately went to work on the downed Eddie. Using his size and power to hit several big slams on the smaller Howard. Titan hit a overhead choke-suplex where he tossed Eddie like a ragdoll. The big three hundred and seventy-five pounder roared and pounded his chest as Persephone demanded he continue the attack.

Titan went back to work, lifting Eddie up, he laid him against the ropes and slammed an arm into his chest, and then a second forearm. Eddie howled from the force of the blow and Titan dragged him back to the center of the ring. He locked one arm around his throat and lifted him like he was going for the Titantic Choke Slam, but Eddie managed to fight out of it. Once his feet hit the ground he dove and tagged in DC Rayne who actually springboarded in with a shoulder tackle and then charged across the ring to dropkick the leg out from under Atlas so he fell from the apron to the ground. Titan got up and DC hit him with a barrage of punches, Titan shoved him away and dropped him with a big boot. Titan pulled him back to his feet and went for the Titantic Choke Slam on him, but DC also got out of it. Instead of making a tag, DC rolled Titan up and got the One. Two. Three.

Winners: And STILL Tag Team Champions, Natural Storm, E.

The highly touted Darryl Devine was making his Mid Atlantic debut -- having answered the ‘Open Challenge’ Machine sent out when he first won the Championship. This is his third defense, having defeated Roderick Remus and Ace Youngblood in prior defenses. One could argue that this is Machine’s toughest defense as of yet. Devine is a former USPW National Champion, has been working steadily for USPW, 4C, and now MAW. In 2004, he was #108 in the power 500. He’s definitely a top prospect in wrestling and at twenty-two years old he already has four years as a pro under his belt.

The early portions of the match saw Machine put in more trouble than he had been put in so far in his Mid Atlantic career. Devine controlled the pace, keeping Machine from settling into his rhythm as well as keeping Machine from being able to get ahold of him and target his lower back. Devine, who utilizes the Devine Dream Drop [Fame-Asser], typically doesn’t target a specific body, he just goes after what he feels he needs to do to win.

Machine got a handful of hair and used that to break a headlock and pull Devine into a headlock of his own. Now Machine went to work. It was the normal onslaught of lower-back focused offense. Machine locked in his trademark deep chin lock. Devine kept fighting back though, not letting Machine get too comfortable. The crowd was definitely into this contest as the two men went back and forth. Machine went for the Mean Swing, but Devine actually came out of the Tilt-a-Whirl on his feet instead of bent over Machine’s knee. Machine’s eyes went wide as Devine kicked him in the gut, hit the ropes and came roaring back, he lept up for the Devine Dream Drop, but Machine moved.

Machine tried the Tilt-A-Whirl again, but again Devine landed on his feet. H wnt for the DDD again, and this time he landed it -- but when he went for the cover Jay Fair was no where to be found. Instead of counting, Fair was arguing with Boss Man Brayfield -- who had made his way down to ringside. With Fair distracted, from the otherside of the ring, American Buffalo rolled in and steamrolled the unsuspecting Darryl Devine.

Buffalo picked Devine up and draped him over his shoulder. He ran across the ring and drove him into the mat with the running powerslam he calls The Stampede. Buffalo picked Machine up and laid him over Devine and exited the ring. Brayfield backed up and Fair turned around and slid to count the fall.

One. Two. Three.

Winner: and STILL Mid Atlantic Champion, The Mean Machine, D

Thank you to those who predicted! This show I wrote to be a little shorter as I felt, thematically it made sense. The Night of the Champions and The Rip Chord Invitational are both supposed to be bigger shows for MAW, along with Where It All Begins Again those three are supposed to be MAW's big three shows -- so I wanted to make Wrestling Classic feel like it was a slightly smaller show, but it was still a solid show (it also was down from 127 people to 104 people, damn it!)

We are starting to get to where I'm setting up angles/programs/stories that are going to carry us forward -- I didn't want to lay them down too heavily before or during the Rip Chord Invitational, because I wanted that to carry itself and be about the tournament.

As for the prediction results!

1. theHeel - 7/7

2. Deathzone: 7/7

3. KnowYourEnemy: 6/7

4. Bonnie: 6/7

5. Rhyme1234: 3/7

Due to the nature of the time between theHeel and Deathzone, they're both going to win a prize! Plus, they are also the top two at the the leadership boards after three shows!

I was sad no one put the clues together to guess Findlay, who debuts in February of 2006 and is from Georgia (though technically he's not from the Swamp portion of Georgia, but damn it, it fit the angle!)

It had always been his one true love. He was born at the end of the 70’s, just before Richard Eisen and his Supreme Wrestling Federation began their climb to the top of the wrestling business in North America. He had a front row seat to it. The collapse of the territory business. I saw it through his little kid eyes and at eighteen years of age he made the jump to being a pro. He hadn’t even finished high school yet. He just had to get started.</p><p> </p><p> At first, he toiled around Minnesota, working on small independent shows that wanted a hungry youngster. Then he was able to get some Canadian independent work -- and he was good. He did a couple of shots for PPPW, for RPW, for XWF, and even a couple of matches for DAVE. Never anything big. Never anything more than a couple of underneath shots, always in an enhancement role -- but everyone said the same thing ‘the kid can work. He understands this business.’ But no one wanted to give him a shot.</p><p> </p><p> Nine years he spent as a weekend warrior. Nine years traveling from his one-bedroom apartment in St. Paul to whatever local company would have him. Nine years of sending his video tape to promoters. Shane Sneer would never bring him in to SCCW. He wasn’t Southern enough. He wasn’t willing to bleed buckets so Vibert and Nemesis didn’t want him in DAVE. The Stomper well… He was old and crotchety and outside of a match here or there really didn’t see much use in a guy like Cattley -- and Jilleski booked him and then unbooked him the day of a show.</p><p> </p><p> He was about ready to hang it up. It was September of 2005. His long-time girlfriend had just given birth to their first daughter. He named her Heidi -- yes, after that Heidi. Wrestling was always his first love. He promised his girlfriend that he was going to finish up, that he was going to walk away from wrestling by Christmas and focus on his job at Hormel Foods and not on being this weekend warrior who risked his body for fifty, sometimes a hundred, if he was lucky, a hundred and fifty, a shot. It just wasn’t worth it anymore.</p><p> </p><p> Then the phone rang. On the other end was someone Jean had watched for literally his entire life. Rip Chord. The master of the DDT. Former SWF World’s Champion. Former TCW World’s Champion. Former GCG World Champion. One of the few men to hold the top title in every wrestling company he’d ever wrestled for. Rip Chord wanted to know if Jean wanted to come to Baltimore. Wanted to help him train guys at the Boot Camp and be his top heel. He didn’t know Rip that well. Only met him a handful of times when Jean worked some dark matches and enhancement matches for TCW. Rip had always been cordial, but he didn’t know Rip thought that highly of him.</p><p> </p><p> “Of course.” Jean had said on the phone. Why would he pass up the opportunity to have a full time gig?
