Wrestling Classic had been another successful show for the upstart Mid Atlantic Wrestling. Sam was three shows in to his run as booker for Mid Atlantic Wrestling and was finally starting to get to roll things out. The Night of the Champions was a showcase show. Every title had to be on the line. It had to be something to catch eyeballs. Something to attract new fans, but most importantly, something they could take to sponsors. A good show with name talent to show that they're not just an outlaw organization that's fly by night.</p><p> </p><p>

The Rip Chord Invitational was a tournament, but it was also a coming out party. It was the time to show what guys were going to be the featured players for the organization. The guys to watch.</p><p> </p><p>

Wrestling Classic was where the storylines really started. The programs that Sam's going to be running with. American Buffalo and Darryl Devine. His two most expensive guys. The two biggest names outside of himself. Nicky Champion and Ace Youngblood with the A* Alliance, and by proxy, The Mean Machine. The Firm needed strong babyfaces to feud. Mainstream and himself. Mainstream is Sam's most talented wrestling babyface. A worker's worker. Programming Mainstream against himself will allow Sam the opportunity to bring the kid along, to try and get him in a position where he can be the face of the company for a long time.</p><p> </p><p>

Sam scratches at the beard growth at his chin. It had been several days since Sam had shaved. He's been in the throws of tough decisions. There was a knock on his door. Sam looked up. Karen</p><p> </p><p>

"Tell me you didn't actually fire them." She said in disbelief.</p><p> </p><p>

"I didn't fire them, they didn't have written contracts. I just told them they weren't going to be booked anymore." Sam replied dryly.</p><p> </p><p>

"But they were my team!" Karen protested</p><p> </p><p>

"And now they're not. It's a business, Karen. They were problems in the locker room. Three shows. They were problems at all three. Their negative attitudes were bringing the locker room down. I couldn't have that anymore."</p><p> </p><p>

Karen shook her head. "You should have talked to me first. Run it by me."</p><p> </p><p>

"Why?" Sam replied. "I don't work for you. I'm the booker. I call the shots. I let Rip know. He said okay. I don't have to run anything by you."</p><p> </p><p>

Karen took a step back. She wasn't expecting that. The harshness from Sam. "Well. I thought I was your assistant booker."</p><p> </p><p>

Sam nodded slow. "You are. The assistant. That means you help. You do the projects you're assigned. Just like at the magazine."</p><p> </p><p>

Karen nodded. "Well. I quit."</p><p> </p><p>

It was Sam's turn to be taken aback. "What?"</p><p> </p><p>

"I came to work here because I was given the book. Right before our first real big show, the book was taken from me. I get it. You've got more experience than I do. You were booking for Eisen. You and Chord go way back. I tried to be a good soldier. But you just fired a team I brought here, a team I found myself, without talking to me first. I don't want to be a part of that kind of team." Karen said very matter of factly.</p><p> </p><p>

"I'm sorry to hear you feel that way. I'm sorry to lose you." Sam said.</p><p> </p><p>

Karen waved through the air dismissively. "Don't be. It was fun while it lasted."</p><p> </p><p>

Without another word, she left and Sam leaned back in his chair. "Shit."</p><p> </p><p>

He scratched the back of the head and stared at nothing for a long moment. He wasn't expecting her to quit. Sure, he let the Rock City Stars go. They were problems. They weren't very good in the ring -- sure, The Gods of Thunder are two inches away from being terrible, but they have great attitudes. The Stars didn't, and their attitudes made them a poison. </p><p> </p><p>

Sure, Sam had already replaced the loss on the heel side by signing this new kid named Dave Diamond. He's a big brawler. He'll work nicely in the Mid Atlantic culture. Plus, despite being a rookie, he's already in his late twenties. Already grown. His locker room needs that.</p><p> </p><p>

Plus, there's this woman named Jasmine Saunders. She's young. She's pretty. She wants to commentate, but if she's brought in, it won't be for that. It would be to be the liaison to the fans from the 'office'. Give decisions. Make matches so Rip Chord doesn't have to. That kind of thing, but he has to decide if that's in the budget.</p><p> </p><p>

Sam shrugged. Adelaide Pro just joined the World Wrestling Alliance and Keith Goggin asked Sam to bring in the Rising Suns for a show. He wanted them to get a little international experience because he's trying to build them as his top tag team. Sam agreeded, of course, because Goggin was going to pay for the flights and hotels -- which made it much more affordable.</p><p> </p><p>

Super Showdown. That's what's next for the company. It's going to have to be super...</p>

But in this iteration of the game, both of them are backstage problems and were causing incidents at each show from their negative attitudes, and each attempt to discipline them only made their attitudes worse, so I had to let them go for the locker room!</p>

<p>MAW Super Showdown 2006</p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="S0kbGmo.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/S0kbGmo.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><p> Friday, Week 4, March</p><p> Live from the Stanley Hall</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <strong> The Gods of Thunder w/ Persephone versus The Rising Suns</strong></p><p> </p><p> A simple opening contest The Rising Suns were virtually unknown coming into this contest -- with only the diehard of diehards having heard of the young team from Australia -- but they worked hard in the match, bumping around for the significantly bigger Gods of Thunder who were looking to get back on track after having lost to Natural Storm at Wrestling Classic</p><p> </p><p> Motty Korouda went for a diving move off the top onto a standing Atlas, but Atlas caught him and countered into a nasty Kronos Slam [sit Out Powerbomb] and got the quick, relatively easy victory.</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Winners: The Gods of Thunder, E</strong></p><p> </p><p> <strong>Sam Keith Responds to Mainstream</strong></p><p><strong> </strong></p><p> "Last month, Mainstream had the audacity to call me out. Last Month, Mainstream said he wanted one more match with me. One more chance. I have an answer for him...</p><p> </p><p> No."</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Sam Keith promo C+</strong></p><p> </p><p> <strong>Al Coleman versus Antonio</strong></p><p> </p><p> Al Coleman has been struggling to find his footing in the past few months and Antonio is also looking for a must needed win here. Antonio came out looking like he was really ready for action. He looked focused as he unleashed a barrage on Coleman -- trapping him in the corner and unleashing a series of strikes until Jay Fair made him give him the break. Coleman seemed a step slower than normal, definitely off his game against Antonio, who was really shining.</p><p> </p><p> Coleman managed to cut Antonio off and get some offense in -- targeting the shoulder of Antonio to try and take away his strength in the DDT -- if he can’t hold Coleman’s head, he can’t properly DDT him, after all. Coleman hit the ropes and came charging back towards Antonio, looking for a lariat, but Antonio ducked under it. When Coleman turned around, he got the kick to the gut and dropped to the mat with the Italian DDT.</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Winner, Antonio, E</strong></p><p> </p><p> <strong>Flash Savage w/ Nicole Kiss vs. Erik Strong</strong></p><p> </p><p> Flash Savage and Erik Strong were all over the place in this one. Either something was wrong with one of them (or both), or they just don’t click at all. Or perhaps their styles just don’t translate to the Mid Atlantic audience, because both are cruiserweights in a crowd that doesn’t show up for the high flying.</p><p> </p><p> Strong hit a big drop kick and then the Strongsault [Diving Moonsault] onto Savage for a victory that mercifully ended the match.</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Winner: Erik Strong, F+</strong></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <strong>John Greed versus Remmington Remus</strong></p><p> </p><p> John Greed’s debut for Mid Atlantic Wrestling. He came out of the curtain and though the audience didn’t really know who he was, he immediately got a reaction. They booed him out of the building and throughout his entrance he played up to it, getting them more incensed. Remmington came down for his first singles match in Mid Atlantic Wrestling. By nature of the crowd booing John Greed, they were very excited to see Remmington Remus.</p><p> </p><p> Greed jumped Remus from the start, putting the boots to him and looking for anyway to get an advantage. This put Remus on the defense from the outgoing and allowed Greed to target Remus’ neck, setting him up for what he calls “Crash Diet”, a Death Valley Driver. Remus started to fight back, tossing several elbows to create some separation before hitting a leaping dropkick that sent Greed rolling to the outside of the ring to create some separation of his own.</p><p> </p><p> Greed finally rolls into the ring and Remus nailed him with several kicks before hitting a snap suplex and going for the cover. It was only a one count before Greed kicked out. Back on the feet. Remmington hit the ropes and came charging back. He leapt for a crossbody, but Greed ducked under and caught him on his own shoulders. He quickly drove his head into the mat for a Crash Diet and made the cover.</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Winner: John Greed, E</strong></p><p> </p><p> <strong>Des Davids versus Dazzling Dave Diamond</strong></p><p> </p><p> This was also Dazzling Dave Diamond, the flamboyant Southern’s first match here in Mid Atlantic Wrestling. Davids is looking to continue the momentum he established by having a great match with Sam Keith and had a win over Kirk Jameson. The former college football star controlled this match up. His power and explosiveness allowed him to toss Diamond around the ring with a couple of big suplexes.</p><p> </p><p> Davids went for the Quarterback Sack, but Diamond moved out of the way and hit a swinging neck breaker that got a surprising near fall. Diamond pulled Davids back up and went for a second neck breaker but Davids pushed Diamond away, Diamond turned around and got blasted with the Quarterback Sack.</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Winner: Des Davids, E+</strong></p><p> </p><p> Diamond rolled out of the ring and Davids stood up to celebrate but BOOM! Findlay hit him from the blindside. The crowd immediately began to boo as Findlay started to lay into Davids. The Brayfield-proclaimed Swamp Ape tossed Davids into the ropes and when he rebounded to him, he hoisted him high in the air and slammed him down into the mat with a big Atomic Spinebuster.</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Beatdown, F.</strong></p><p> </p><p> <strong>Dean Waldorf w/ Boss Man Brayfield versus Eddie Howard</strong></p><p> </p><p> The first of the two Challenge matches. Waldorf has to beat Howard and Statler has to beat Rayne for them to get a shot at the Tag Team Titles at Americana. Waldorf and Howard are an interesting singles match up. Howard is the bigger, stronger athlete. He’s also more experienced, but Waldorf is a prodigy. He’s from the old school mold of bringing his opponent down to the mat and working him over.</p><p> </p><p> Throughout the contest, the juxtaposition in styles was on clear display. Howard impressed the crowd in his first singles contest. A natural brawler, Howard utilized a lot of strikes and powerful suplexes that showed off his size advantage. Waldorf, after gaining the upper hand through a little managerial distraction, went to work on Howard. Closing the gap, keeping him from being able to use the power that he was showcasing, or allowing him to use his superior range.</p><p> </p><p> Howard got caught in a roll up where Waldorf had his feet on the ropes. Fair was none-the-wiser and Waldorf got the hard fought victory.</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Winner: Dean Waldorf, D</strong></p><p> </p><p> <strong>Marv Statler w/ Boss Man Brayfield versus DC Rayne</strong></p><p> </p><p> Statler and Rayne were much more evenly matched than Howard and Waldorf and this was a back and forth contest. They went hold for hold with neither man able to really gain an upper hand. Rayne went for the Storm Damage [brain Buster], but Marv dropped behind him and chop blocked him. This opened up DC for Marv to go on the attack. </p><p> </p><p> Marv targeted the lower back of Rayne. Using some offense similar to The Mean Machine’s. Marv hit the Backdrop Backbreaker on DC Rayne and made the cover.</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Winner: Marv Statler, D-</strong></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <strong>Nicky Champion, Ace Youngblood, and Rocky Golden versus The Firm</strong></p><p> </p><p> The match started, but it didn’t last long. All six guys brawled around the ring and Jay Fair was unable to get control. Parker and Douglas isolated Rocky Golden and blasted him in the head with a steel chair -- this got the DQ win Golden’s team.</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Winners: By DQ, Rocky Golden, Nicky Champion, and Ace Youngblood, D</strong></p><p> </p><p> With Golden knocked out from the chair shot, Machine, Parker, and Douglas continued to assault Champion and Youngblood -- including a Future Shock to each man on a steel chair.</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Post Match Beat Down, E</strong></p><p><strong> </strong></p><p><strong> Darryl Devine versus American Buffalo w/ Boss Man Brayfield</strong></p><p> </p><p> Devine and Buffalo came out to steal the show. They beat the hell out of each other. Buffalo really got to showcase that animalistic side of himself that made him a three time NYCW Empire Champion. Devine showed the babyface fire that’s made him a top guy for both USPW and 4C. Devine looked like he had the match won, but Brayfield distracted Fair from making the count after the first Devine Dream Drop </p><p> </p><p> Devine went for the Devine Dream Drop a second time, but Buffalo countered and hit The Stampede.</p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p> <strong>Winner: American Buffalo, D.</strong></p><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="45664" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div>Quick Results:<p> The Gods of Thunder def The Rising Suns, E</p><p> Sam Keith Promo C+</p><p> Antonio def. I’m sorry for the short nature of the show. It was a show I didn’t actually want to write at all (not for any negative reasons, just the next two shows are a lot of fun) and I wanted to get through it so I could get to the two shows that come after! Hopefully I didn’t disappoint you all!

Sam Keith leaned against the ring apron. His eyes glued to watching Rip Chord work with this youngster who is close to graduating, should be ready by the end of May. Maybe ready for Fan Festival in June. Sam takes a drink from his bottle of water. He’s feeling good. Four shows into his reign as Mid Atlantic Wrestling booker and MAW was making steady gains. Each show had received positive reviews from those in attendance and those who were buying the DVDs and home video releases (more were buying DVDs than VHS tapes of course, but the market for VHS tapes wasn’t entirely dead yet).

Keith had assembled a good crop of workers. Both from Rip’s original crew and the additions made since Sam assumed the helm. Cattley was proving to be a more than capable Heavyweight Champion which assuaged the need to have Buffalo take the belt, or have Keith take it himself.

Mainstream was getting over as a lead babyface -- while Devine, Champion, and Golden were all in prime babyface spots as well. Devine probably won’t last long. He’s too polished a worker already. Someone has to have their eyes on him. Whether SWF, TCW, NOTBW, or CGC should come calling soon. A few more months, maybe a year tops and then Devine will be gone. Sam was sure of it.

Moving away from the ring, Sam took another drink of water and began to head back to his office. Things had been quieter since Karen quit. It really caught him off guard and it was a hard pill for both he and Rip to take. She wanted out. Sam wasn’t used to people quitting on him, especially not so quickly -- but this is wrestling. You don’t get into it if you expect everyone to like you, to be your friend, or to want to follow your vision. Rich had taught him that.

No sooner had Sam gotten into his office, Chord followed him in. Flanked by Fair and Cattley -- Killer’s replacement on the creative ‘team.’ Keith turned his head.

“Do we have a meeting?” Sam asked, checking his watch

“Yep.” was all Rip said as everyone took seats around Sam’s desk. Sam shrugged and took his own seat.

“What’s going on?” Sam asked.

“A couple of things.” Rip said as he stretched his legs out, his left hand idly rubbing at his left knee. “I saw the card for Americana. You have Natural Storm working twice.”

“I know.” Sam said.

Rip held up his hand. “I know you know. But twice in one night? In two different title matches? The hell you trying to do?”

Sam did not respond right away. He took a slow drink of his water. “I’m trying to make them stars in one night. They’ll start the show off for the World Tag Team Titles against those sons-o-bitches from California. They’ll end the show against those sons-o-bitches from here. All they have to do is perform. They’ll look like stars to our audience. Babyfaces unafraid of anything. Babyfaces who don’t back down from a challenge. Taking on two top heel teams. Taking on the odds.”

“Good.” Rip said. “I just like to make sure you have a reason. I don’t want you just blindly steering my ship.”

“I’ve always got a reason.” Sam replied.

“Uh. Why am I not booked?” Jean asked.

“Building anticipation. We’ve got the two tag title matches and a number one contender’s match. Plus you’ve got a really big May match. A match that I want to be extra special by them not seeing you this month.”

Jean shrugged and nodded. It made sense. You don’t want to overload on title matches or people come to expect it. He’d already wrestled several of the top babyfaces -- and the three big ones that he hadn’t defended against were big money, marquee matches for Mid Atlantic Wrestling.

Sam looked around at all the guys. “Guys. We are close. We’ve been doing a great job so far. Every show has been well received. People are talking. We’re getting more website hits. More website traffic. We sold more merchandise last month than the month before. We’re well on our way to being more than just a local promotion. We just have to keep focused. Build stars from within. Don’t overspend on ‘name’ talent. Use guys who can wrestle or guys who have that special IT factor. We build our own stars. We show people that we are serious and we keep doing what we’re doing We’re going to be great. We already are. I know it’s unsettling sometimes. Cards come out and you’re not sure what the plan is. But trust me. Just. Trust me.”

MAW Americana 2006

nujRSTp.jpg

Friday, Week 4, April

Live from the Stanley Hall

Pre Show:

zx1E1D9.jpg versus jzDRoJ1.jpg w/ 3WXNb8C.jpg

In a simple pre-show match, Findlay and Remus told the story of Findlay’s physical strength, his immense size and his aggressiveness contrasted against Remus’ speed and elusiveness. Remus tried to strike quick -- tried get in and get out and use his speed to keep dancing away from the bigger man. Findlay stayed after his prey, after his opponent -- trying to trap him in a corner or against the ropes so that he could use his size to his advantage.

Remus landed several kicks to Findlay’s leg, trying to chop the big man down. Findlay fell to one knee, Remus hit the ropes and came roaring back, but Findlay exploded to his feet and ran through Remus. Remus got turned inside out. Findlay lifted him back to his feet, hoisted him high in the air and dropped him to the mat with a hard Atomic Spinebuster that he followed up with a cover for the one, two, three.

Winner: Findlay, E+

The show opens with a brand new Mid Atlantic video package playing on the screen provided by Stanley Hall. It’s not a super fancy package, but it is a highlight package of some of the top moments in Mid Atlantic Wrestling so far. There is a shot of The Mean Machine first winning the Mid Atlantic Championship, of Natural Storm winning the Tag Titles, Nicky Champion pinning Sam Keith to win the Rip Chord Invitational Tournament. It’s a nice little video package. For the first time, Marv Earnest is not also playing the role of ring announcer -- it is a wrestler from the training school [it’s Davis Wayne Newton].

Marv Earnest is ringside with Sara Silver, who has been getting rave reviews in the Mid Atlantic commentary booth.

Marv, “We have an action packed night of professional wrestling in store for you all tonight. The WWA World Tag Team Titles are on the line. The Mid Atlantic Tag Team Championships are on the line. American Buffalo and Rocky Golden are going one on one. We’ve also heard that both Mainstream Hernandez and Sam Keith are here. But let’s go back to the two tag team title matches, both of them feature Natural Storm -- one as challengers for the World Titles and one defending their Mid Atlantic titles.”

Sara, “It’s definitely a tall order for them, Marv. They’ve got to go up against two teams that wrestle vastly different styles. They have to be prepared for two different offensive attacks. They have to protect themselves enough in the first match to not risk being at too far a deficit in the main event. “

Marv, “Very astute Sarah. Let’s go ringside for the introductions.”

WWA World Tag Team Championship

Forty-Five Minute Time Limit

n6l343s.jpgZth5O4N.jpg vs. rigFXtv.jpg22gwreb.jpg

Newton, “Our first contest this evening is a tag team match with a forty-five minute time limit. It is sanctioned by the World Wrestling Alliance and is for the World Tag Team Championship! It will be refereed by Mid-Atlantic Wrestling official Jay Fair.”

Natural Storm came to the ring first with the MAW Tag Team Titles around their waist. The duo has quickly become one of the most popular acts in the entire company -- arguably the second or third most popular on the roster after Darryl Devine and Mainstream Hernandez. They are easily the most popular tandem in the company.

The Fly Boys were out next. The arrogant duo are in their fourth month as World Tag Team Champions and they have the swagger to go with it. If their walk to the ring wasn’t enough to get the crowd against them, the fact that Donnie J spit his gum at Eddie Howard definitely was.

The match started off fast. Donnie J and Jimmy P are crusierweights who like to keep the pace fast -- and they were able to get the pace going in their favor early on. Lots of back and forth action, several diving clotheslines, crossbodies, and drop kicks from Jimmy and Donnie -- who used frequent tags to their advantage and were really showing why they’ve been the WWA Champs for as long as they have.

Donnie went for a springboard move of some sort but was caught by Eddie Howard. Eddie spun Donnie in to a powerslam that took the wind out of Donnie and allowed Eddie to make the tag to the fresh DC Rayne. DC came in with a lariat to Donnie and a lariat to Jimmy. Donnie got back to his feet and DC hit a big scoop slam. Then one to Jimmy. DC backed up and came charging for a second lariat to Donnie J, but Donnie crumpled to the mat and DC clotheslined Jay Fair so hard that Jay bounced out of the ring and to the floor.

The crowd gasped at how hard he hit Jay Fair. DC looked down at him, his eyes wide in apologies. The crowd started to boo, because behind DC Rayne were The Ring Generals. Marv blasted DC in the back of the neck so that he fell onto his face and then lifted him up in the wheelbarrel. He started to suplex him, but Dean was there to catch him with a vicious neckbreaker. They rolled out of the ring where Eddie Howard was starting to get to his feet after making the tag and did the same move to him. Marv picked up Jay Fair and rolled him into the ring. Jay was groggy, but alert enough to see Donnie J pinning a downed DC Rayne. He made the count. One. Two. Three.

Winners: and STILL WWA World Tag Team Champions, The Fly Boys, D-

Now that the match was officially over, Dean and Marv went to work on Eddie and DC Rayne. They hit Eddie with a double suplex into the guard-rail separating the front row from ring side and then rolled in the ring where they hit DC with a double slingshot suplex. They were picking DC up for another move when security -- again some guys from the training classes (including Nelson Callum and Casey Valentine) hit the ring and made sure to pull Dean and Marv out of the ring. The crowd was booing heavily.

Post Match Beatdown, E-.

r674LWH.jpg

After the ring had been cleared and Natural Storm were helped to the back, generic surfer music hit the Stanley Hall speakers and Mainstream Hernandez came bouncing out from behind the curtain. He slapped hands with a few of the fans on his way to the ring. The ring announcer [still Davis Wayne Newton, though the audience does not know that] handed him a microphone. Mainstream took it with a nod.

Mainstream, “I was hoping that tonight I’d be able to come out here and be wrestling Sam Keith. I was hoping that last month, Sam Keith was going to show the world the Sam Keith we all remember from his four reigns as SWF World Champion. I was hoping we’d get the Sam Keith that we were all fans of. But we didn’t. Instead we got the coward Sam Keith. We got the man who is afraid to wrestle. Afraid to put it on the line. We got the man who turned down a challenge for no reason other than fear. I’ll be honest. I’m ashamed to share a building with a man like that. I used to look up to Sam Keith. I had Sam Keith action figures as a little kid. Once, I stood in line for a show in Toronto for the opportunity just to get a glimpse of Sam Keith before he wrestled Christian Faith. I was eleven years old and he was my hero. Now. Now he’s just a bitter shell of the man he once was. A bitter coward. A --”

Before Mainstream could continue, Sam Keith came storming out from the back. He was already clutching a microphone. Sam had the WWA World Championship over his shoulder.

cD4kwus.jpg

Keith, “Did you call me a coward? Is that what I just heard?”

Mainstream, “Yes I did. You’re a coward. The kind of man who would run from a fight rather than stand his ground.”

Keith, “Boy, I’m anything but a coward. I’ve waged wars in rings just like the one you’re standing in. When you were born, I was already a star in this business. I was already main eventing. I’d already beaten Manuel Prieto. I’d already beaten Luis Montero. When you were learning to walk, to talk, to wipe your own ass, I was standing toe to toe with Dread. With Motoichi Arakida, with Ed Monton, with the Demons. I’ve never ran from a fight. I didn’t run from Dread when he tried to break my back. I didn’t run from the Demons when they sent Robert Oxford and I to the hospital. I didn’t run from Runway Train, or Sean McFly, or any of ‘em. I’ve never run from a fight in my life. I wasn’t running from you.”

Mainstream, “Then what were you doing? Because you damn sure aren’t in a fight with me.”

Keith, “I was protecting you! I was protecting you from what I could do to you. Protecting you from the injuries you could suffer at my hands. Do you know what my Proton Lock has done to people? The careers its shortened? The knees its ruined? You’re twenty years old, Mainstream. You’ve got your whole career, hell, your whole life, in front of you. I didn’t want to do anything to ruin that.”

Mainstream, “That’s a crock of bull. You just don’t want to get embarassed by me. You don’t want to lose.”

Sam paced up and down the entrance aisle before responding.

Keith, “You want a match with me? You want to go one on one with me.”

Mainstream, “That’s exactly what I want.”

Keith, “Fine! You want a match with me. You can have one.”

The crowd started to cheer, Mainstream pumped his fist, but Sam held up a finger.

Keith, “But only if you can win your next two matches. I know you weren’t originally scheduled to wrestle tonight, but I talked to the powers that be -- and they agreed that if you want to wrestle me you’ll have to win tonight and next month. Then, then you can wrestle me.”

Mainstream, “Fine! I’ll wrestle tonight. I’ll wrestle right now. I don’t care.”

Keith, “I’m glad you said that. Because a friend of mine happens to be here tonight. A friend who is looking to earn a spot on the Mid Atlantic Wrestling roster. I told him that if he beat you, I’d make sure he got a full time job.”

Sam Keith stepped to the side and the curtain was pushed back. Out walked a man notorious in the wrestling business -- and Maryland native Big Smack Scott. The massive, ripped Heavyweight turned to Sam Keith and grinned before heading to the ring.

Angle: Keith and Mainstream face off, D+

Impromptu Match

Fifteen Minute Time Limit

oHrExTd.jpg versus r674LWH.jpg

Earnest, “Mainstream Hernandez and Sam Keith just had an intense exchange and now Mainstream is going one on one with Big Smack Scott!?! If Scott wins, he gets a full time job here in Mid Atlantic Wrestling? If Mainstream wins, he moves on to a match against another Sam Keith hand-picked opponent next month?”

Sara, “I don’t see how Mainstream is going to beat Big Smack. He’s had no time to prepare. He’s significantly smaller than the powerhouse. I just hope Scott doesn’t seriously injure Mainstream.”

Scott rolled in the ring and came right for Mainstream, but Mainstream ducked under the big punch attempt and hit Big Smack with an enzugari that staggered the heavyweight. He hit a second enzugari that staggered Scott more. Mainstream hit the ropes and came charging back -- probably for a third enzugari or kick of some sort, but Scott was able to counter with a big overhead belly to belly suplex. Scott laughed with confidence as he went to pick Mainstream up and tossed him with a second overhead belly to belly suplex. He laughed again and picked Mainstream up once more. Grabbing a handful of Mainstream’s hair, Scott yelled out at the audience.

Scott, “This is your hero? This wimp? This nobody. You can all bow to my..”

Before Scott could finish whatever he was going to say, Mainstream blasted him with a third enzugari that dropped the larger man to one knee. Mainstream hit the ropes and came roaring back. He leapt around Scott and grabbed him by the neck, driving him down into the mat with the Apparition #14. Mainstream made the cover and Jay Fair counted. One. Two. Three.

Winner: Mainstream Hernandez, E+

Sara, “I guess no contract for Big Smack Scott. We can all bow and wave goodbye.”

Singles Contest

Twenty Minute Time Limit

iIyONic.jpg versus dZJv4GZ.jpg

The next contest saw Oscar Golden and John Greed go one on one. This was Greed’s second appearance here in Mid Atlantic Wrestling and the man who calls himself “The Eighth Deadly Sin” was in great form as he took it to Oscar. Oscar worked to get some offense in, but this match was mostly John Greed. He hit the Crash Diet for the pinfall.

Winner: John Greed, E+

Singles Contest

Twenty Minute Time Limit

TVaJZ8i.jpg versus QVgc5Pg.jpgSteven Parker

The next contest pit Steven Parker of The Firm against Ace Youngblood. Last month, the Firm was disqualified in their match against Youngblood, Champion, and Golden. Youngblood came out like a house of fire. Lots of chops and forearms from Youngblood to Parker. Youngblood even hit a headbutt that sent Parker stumbling out of the ring and to the guard rail.

Youngblood came out after Parker and Parker hit a low dropkick to the knee and then dropped Youngblood throat first over the guardrail. He rolled Youngblood into the ring and went to work. Knees to the neck. An elbow drop that looked like it hit the throat and not the chest. Youngblood gasped for air as Parker pulled him to his feet and hit him with the Future Shock and got the pinfall.

Winner: Steven Parker, D-

Semi - Main Event

Winner Receives Title Shot at Fan Festival

Forty-Five Minute Time Limit

kcFotFm.jpg versus q7d5xM9.jpg w/ 3WXNb8C.jpg

Rocky Golden and American Buffalo went toe to toe. Hard shots. Big punches. It wasn’t pretty, but it was physical. Buffalo lifted the very sizeable Golden up and hit him with a big powerslam that looked like it shook the ring. Golden did the same to Buffalo. The crowd was firmly behind Golden, but that didn’t stop Buffalo from putting the boots to him.

Buffalo hit Golden with the Stampede, but Golden kicked out. Golden fought back to his feet and managed to hit Buffalo with the Rocky Road, but Buffalo kicked out. The crowd was applauding heavily at the effort of both men. Buffalo got the upper hand again and looked like he wanted to hit the Stampede a second time, but Darryl Devine’s music hit. Buffalo turned around and looked at the entryway where Devine was standing. Devine waved and pointed behind Buffalo. Buffalo turned around and Golden hit him with another Rocky Road. This time Buffalo didn’t kick out and Golden officially became the number one contender.

Winner: Rocky Golden, D-

Main Event

KAXyuvE.jpg

Sixty Minute Time Limit

IuHXFkn.jpgCOvM6H3.jpg w/ 3WXNb8C.jpg versus n6l343s.jpgZth5O4N.jpg

Earnest, “It’s time for our Main Event of the evening. The Mid Atlantic Tag Team Champions Natural Storm -- who wrestled at the start of the show, put the titles on the line against the Ring Generals. Natural Storm lost to The Fly Boys after The Ring Generals interfered. Will Natural Storm be able to enact some revenge and defend their titles? Or will The Ring Generals be able to capitalize on the opening?”

The Ring Generals looked like dogs that were about to devour a meal, or a shark that smells blood in the water. Natural Storm was moving slower. Clearly still banged up from their earlier interactions.

Eddie Howard started against Marv Statler, but about three minutes in, Howard’s arm went limp and he crawled to DC Rayne and tagged out before falling to the floor.

Rayne was all alone and the Generals took advantage of this. They picked him apart. Targeting his neck and his lower back. Using frequent tags to rotate who is in the match and allowing each of them to catch their breath. They hit a series of double team moves -- a double sidewalk slam. A double suplex. A double stalling vertical suplex where they let the blood run to his head. Rayne kicked out of every double team move that they hit and kept looking to his corner, but Eddie Howard was on the outside of the ring being checked by the medical staff.

Rayne started to mount some offense, a couple of scoop slams, a couple of short lariats. The crowd was behind Rayne, who was essentially fighting this match alone. Rayne lifted Statler up for a brainbuster, but Waldorf snuck in the ring and chop-blocked Rayne, causing him to crumple. Statler picked Rayne up in the wheelbarrow and Waldorf hit the neckbreaker. Statler made the cover for the three count.

<p>Man, five shows in the books and still going strong! Again Eddie shook his head. “DC’s got me. But thanks. Y’all kicked ass tonight. Congratulations. Y’all have earned it.”</p><p> </p><p>

Marv and Dean nodded and gently shook Eddie’s right hand -- not wanting to cause too much torque on his body, before shaking hands with DC.</p><p> </p><p>

Marv, “We appreciate the opportunity and the favor.”</p><p> </p><p>

Dean, “You guys made us tonight. We won’t forget that.”</p><p> </p><p>

DC laughed, “Just return the favor when it’s time.”</p><p> </p><p>

Dean and Marv both nodded. “Of course.” They said in unison before heading back to clean up and change -- and give Eddie some breathing room.</p><p> </p><p>

Sam knelt down in front of Eddie. “We’re going to cover the doctor expenses, Eddie. It happened in our ring, it’s our responsibility.”</p><p> </p><p>

Rip nodded. “And don’t try to say no. Or I’ll break something else.”</p><p> </p><p>

Eddie laughed. “I appreciate that. I really do.”</p><p> </p><p>

Sam looked up to DC, “Get him to the hospital. Keep us updated.”</p><p> </p><p>

DC, “Will do.”</p><p> </p><p>

With that, DC helped Eddie Howard to his feet and the two friends headed off to get to the hospital. Sam and Rip turned and looked at each other. This is the wrestling business. Guys get hurt, but that doesn’t mean it makes it easier to watch. Especially when it is someone young and someone who hasn’t really had a major injury before. Rip claps Sam on the back and they turn, but standing there was Remmington Remus. He didn’t look happy. He was dressed in his street clothes.</p><p> </p><p>

Remmington, “I’m done. I’m through. I want my pay for tonight and then I’m out.”</p><p> </p><p>

Sam and Rip look at each other. Sam responds. “Uh. What?”</p><p> </p><p>

Remmington, “I didn’t stutter. I quit. I’m tired of it. I’ve been here five months and done three jobs. The Gods of Thunder, John Greed, and now that Findlay? Nothing against any of them, but I didn’t come here to do jobs.”</p><p> </p><p>

Sam laughed and Rip shook his head. “Kid. You’re seventeen years old. You’re a rookie. You’re talented, but this is when you do jobs. This is when you put people over. You go into the ring and you learn. We’ve all been there.”</p><p> </p><p>

Remmington scoffs, “It’s not why I’m here. I want my money and then I’m out.”</p><p> </p><p>

Sam and Rip both shrugged. Rip finally nods. “Okay kid. Have it your way. Jean’s got all the envelopes. He’ll give you yours.”</p><p> </p><p>

Remmington turned on his heel and walked off. Sam and Rip looked after him for a long moment before turning to each other.</p><p> </p><p>

Sam, “Was he for real?”</p><p> </p><p>

Rip, “Apparently.”</p><p> </p><p>

Sam, “Well. *censored* him.”</p><p> </p><p>

Rip, “My sentiments exactly. Good show tonight, injury and Remus quitting not-with-standing. Though, don’t use that Big Smack Scott again.”</p><p> </p><p>

Sam shrugged. “I don’t plan it. He just showed up tonight seeing if he could work. I saw the opportunity to give Mainstream a little rub.”</p><p> </p><p>

Rip, “I understand completely. Just, not again.”</p><p> </p><p>

Sam, “Understood.”</p><p> </p><p>

Rip, “Let’s go get a beer.”</p><p> </p><p>

Sam, “You don’t drink anymore?”</p><p> </p><p>

Rip, “So? I can still watch and enjoy it vicariously through you.”</p><p> </p><p>

Sam laughed and the two old friends turned business partners began the long walk…</p>
