<p>Brayfield issues challenge</p><p> </p><p>

[Recorded just after the conclusion of Americana.]</p><p> </p><p>

American Buffalo snarled at the camera. He was still covered in sweat. Brayfield was red in the face. He pulled his white hat off his head. Brayfield looks frantic as Buffalo growled.</p><p> </p><p>

Brayfield, “Darryl Devine… Who do you think you are? How dare you stick your nose where it doesn’t belong. This man was moments away from getting his opportunity at the Mid Atlantic Championship. An opportunity that he deserves. An opportunity that should be his, but you cost him. You cost him his chance. And we’re done with you. You’ve made the worst mistake of your career, because now the Buffalo is going on the hunt. He wants you in a match, Darryl. But not just any match. He wants you in a dog-collar match. He wants you attached to him with twelve feet of loggers chain and a leather collar. He doesn’t want you to be able to run. To duck. To dive. He wants you to have to fight him.”</p><p> </p><p>

Brayfield took a deep breath and put his hat back on.</p><p> </p><p>

Brayfield, “But more than just a dog-collar match, American Buffalo wants to get you out of Mid Atlantic Wrestling. He wants a Loser Leaves Town match. Are you man enough to accept, Darryl? Are you man enough to stand in the ring with him with a dog collar around your neck and the knowledge that if you can’t beat him you’re out of Mid Atlantic Wrestling. Take the challenge, Devine. Prove you’re as good as you think you are.”</p><p> </p><p>

[The recording stops with Buffalo snarling at the camera.]</p>

<p>Press Release</p><p> </p><p>

Special Press Release from Mid Atlantic Wrestling</p><p> </p><p>

Mid Atlantic Wrestling is proud to announce that the Wrestling News Media has proclaimed that MAW has risen from being classified as a local promotion to a small promotion. Rip Chord, owner of the promotion, said that he and his staff were ecstatic with the reclassification and hopes that the new status will bring more fans out for their next card, Old School Rules.</p><p> </p><p>

Mid Atlantic Wrestling has also come to terms with Al Coleman on his release. At Americana, Mr. Coleman was spotted in front of the building throwing a punch at a fan waiting to be admitted into Stanley Hall. Fortunately, he did not connect with the punch and security was able to break it up before it escalated into anything more severe.</p>

Good news, I've pretty much got this show written -- just finishing one match. The show itself should turn out to be right around 5,000 words (The bulk of that being the final two matches on the card). I'm going to hold off on posting though to give people more time to predict since the card just went up last night.

<p>Show Coming Later Today!</p><p> </p><p>

Last call for Predictions. The show will be coming later today. It's over 5000 words, with 4,000 of them being between the Co-Main and Main Event, both of which I'm very proud of. So I hope the show will go over as well as I'm hoping!</p>

They used a simple, but effective arsenal of power moves -- mostly big slams and falling elbow drops. Oscar and Flash were not able to knock Atlas or Titan off of their feet. Oscar ate a Double Chokeslam from Atlas and Titan and then got pinned.</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Winners: The Gods of Thunder, E+</strong></p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="3rXe46E.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/3rXe46E.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> versus <img alt="TZlKr4e.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/TZlKr4e.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p> In the continuing saga of Champion/Youngblood/Golden versus The Firm, Nicky Champion went one on one with Ricky Douglas. Douglas came out with a mean streak, going right at Nicky Champion. He tried to ground the powerful Champion with a front facelock and drove several knees into a grounded Champion. Champion fought to his feet. </p><p> </p><p> He fought Douglas off of him and unleashed a series of lariats, each one knocking Douglas off his feet. Champion hit a big stalling vertical suplex that the fans counted along with until he drove Douglas down into the mat. He hit the Hawkeye Hammer and that was all she wrote.</p><p> </p><p><strong> Winner: Nicky Champion, D-</strong></p><p><strong> </strong></p><p><strong> </strong></p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong>If Mainstream Hernandez wins, he faces Sam Keith at Fan Festival</strong></p><p> <img alt="r674LWH.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/r674LWH.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />versus <img alt="qVoE9OW.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/qVoE9OW.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p> Earnest, “This is as tough an obstacle as Mainstream Hernandez has faced in his short career. Sheik Mustafa. The Sheik is a former champion in the Texas Wrestling League, former champion in All American Florida Wrestling, and a former USPW Champion. He’s a real legend in this sport, known for his viciousness and his brutality -- and it so happens that he and Sam Keith have known each other for two decades now. This has to be a personal favor to Keith.”</p><p> </p><p> Mainstream was the first out and the reaction for him was raucous. His beach themed ring gear was looking sharp as he came to the ring. He begins to stretch out on the ropes as he waits for his opponent.</p><p> </p><p> Sheik Mustafa came out as terrifying as any man has ever entered a wrestling arena. He yelled and lunged towards a little kid who was pressed against the guard rail. The kid screamed and jumped three feet back and into the arms of someone -- hopefully a parent! He does the same on the other side of the entryway and again a kid jumps out of the way. Sheik’s eyes turn towards the ring. They are wide and crazy and filled with the kind of intensity that makes people believe that he really is a crazy man.</p><p> </p><p> He rolls into the ring and before Jay Fair can call for the bell, he pounces on Mainstream. He throws punches. He throws a few sharp elbows and he even starts to bite at Mainstream before Fair pulls him off and backs him up. Mainstream slowly gets back to his feet and the bell rings and Sheik is right back at it. This time, he traps Mainstream in the corner and throws a few body blows before hitting a big eye rake.</p><p> </p><p> He stumbles out of the corner, Fair warning Sheik who throws a Mongolian Chop to the chest of Mainstream, and then another shot with the point of the elbow. Mainstream stumbles along the ropes and Sheik continues to hit him with well-placed strikes. Taking advantage of the openings and showcasing the decades of experience he has. He whips Mainstream across the ropes and lowers his head -- looking for what can only be assumed is a back body drop. Mainstream stops short and kicks Sheik in the face. Sheik snaps back up and Mainstream hits a big superkick. Sheik hits the ground but rolls onto his belly and slowly comes back up.</p><p> </p><p> Mainstream nods and waves his hand to get him to rise to his feet. Sheik does and Mainstream launches himself at Sheik and gets behind him, grabbing on his neck to snap him down with the Apparition #14. He follows that up for the pinfall.</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Winner: Mainstream Hernandez, D-</strong></p><p> </p><p> Earnest, “And it’s official! Next month we will see Mainstream Hernandez versus Sam Keith.”</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong>Co Main Event</strong></p><p> <img alt="8zfz0ew.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/8zfz0ew.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> Sixty Minute Time Limit</p><p> <img alt="TBAmXjG.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/TBAmXjG.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> versus <img alt="T8ZMaKi.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/T8ZMaKi.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p> Earnest, “The Mean Machine might be in for his toughest challenge in this contest. He’s wrestling Joey Minnesota, a new import from New York City Championship Wrestling. He’s a former Empire Champion. He’s an incredibly talented performer, he’s been a professional since July of 2000, so he’s just a few months shy of celebrating his six years in the business.”</p><p> Silver, “He’s also an incredibly well-rounded wrestler. He’s got good size, Marv. Six feet two inches. He’s the same weight as The Mean Machine.”</p><p> </p><p> Joey Minnesota is the first one down and there is a lot of cheering for him. The fans here in Mid Atlantic Wrestling are very excited to see the NYCW stand out in action, especially when told it’s not just a one-off appearance, but rather that Joey Minnesota is going to be a full time competitor in MAW.</p><p> </p><p> The Mean Machine is out next. He’s been the undisputed, reigning, defending, Mid Atlantic Champion since the beginning of December of 2005 and has defended it four times successfully coming in to this contest.</p><p> </p><p> The match starts with a collar and elbow tie up that Minnesota gets the better of by spinning behind Machine. Machine grips Joey’s wrist, drops down to a knee and lowers a shoulder -- causing Minneosta to flip over his back. Minnesota rolls with the flip and comes back on his feet, both men lock up once more, but the same thing happens. They lock up a third time and this time when Machine drops down to try and get Minnesota from having his back, Minnesota releases his back and quickly grabs a side headlock that he uses to flatten Machine out onto the mat. Machine tries to roll on the mat and Minnesota rolls with him, keeping the side headlock locked on. Machine slaps a hand off the mat in frustration as he begins to try and raise himself up to his knees.</p><p> </p><p> Minnesota rises with him, letting Machine get back to his feet -- though he’s still locked in a side headlock. Machine drives a forearm into the side of Minnesota, then a second forearm. A third forearm causes a break in the hold and Machine grabs his own side headlock. Minnesota wedges his hand so that he can grab Machine’s left wrist and twists his body -- breaking the hold and looking in a standing arm bar at the same time. Machine shakes his head, both in frustration and pain and grips at his shoulder. He ducks and turns and comes up with Minnesota’s arm, but Minnesota reverses this into a hammer lock that Machine gets out of with a hard snap mare that creates some separation and earns a round of applause from the fans.</p><p> </p><p> Earnest, “These two men seem very even here in the early goings. Minnesota may even be a step quicker, but neither man has been able to gain much of an offensive foothold.” </p><p> </p><p> Another lock up and this time Machine gets the side headlock on Minnesota. He pushes Minnesota off and Minnesota hits the ropes opposite them. He ricochets of the ropes and side tackles Machine. Minnesota hits the ropes and comes running at Machine, but Machine rolls onto his belly and Minnesota has to leap over his prone body to avoid being tripped. Machine gets back to his feet quickly and bends over like he’s looking for a back body drop, but Minnesota leaps over that too and lands on his feet. Machine turns around and Minnesota catches him with an open handed strike right to the jaw that staggers the champion. The crowd roars their approval as Minnesota uses the opening to pull Machine into another head lock. He widens his stance, lowering his base and his center of gravity. </p><p> </p><p> Earnest, “Notice the wide stance of Joey Minnesota. He’s got his legs wide, his butt down low. This is forcing The Mean Machine to carry Joey’s weight on his neck, as well as making it more difficult to escape. He can’t just shove Joey off here, he’s going to have to out wrestle Joey to create some separation or to gain the leverage needed that he can be in control. Very smart wrestling so far from Joey Minnesota.”</p><p> </p><p> Machine drops to a knee for a long moment, the leverage of Minnesota forcing him to lower his own body to take some of the pressure off his neck. While on his knees, Machine wraps both of his arms around one of Minnesota’s legs. He tugs on the leg while pushing himself to his feet. This breaks the headlock as well as brings Minnesota down to the mat onto his stomach. With Minnesota down, Machine drops a knee into the lower back and immediately locks in his trademark chin lock.</p><p> </p><p> Machine wrenches back on the chin. His fingers locked, his right knee pressed into the small of Minnesota’s back. Minnesota grunts in pain and his fingers claw at the grip of Machine, but so far he’s having no luck in breaking it. Minnesota presses his fists into the mat and begins to push his body up. It is painful at first -- because of the knee in his back it causes him to arch more, but he’s able to pull his knees up under him -- forcing Machine to shift where his knee is in order to not lose his balance. Machine ends up releasing the chinlock.</p><p> </p><p> Machine gets back to his feet, as does Minnesota. Another lock up but this time Machine throws a knee into the abdomen and starts to go to work on Minnesota’s back. It’s a targeted attack -- which has become the norm for the reigning Mid Atlantic Champion. The lower back is his favorite body part to focus on -- and he loves targeting it with forearms, calculated knees, elbows, and variou submissions. He gets Minnesota close to the corner and hits a snap suplex, but towards the corner so that Minnesota’s lower back collides with the middle turnbuckle.</p><p> </p><p> Minnesota yelps in pain as Machine pulls him away from the corner and goes for a pinfall that only gets a one count before Minnesota is able to kick out. Machine does not let it deter him and immediately locks in a deep camel clutch. His weight pressing into the lower back as he pulls on the chin. Wrenching Minnesota, trying to break his back, or at least cause his back to knot up and swell so that Minnesota will have trouble walking or have trouble lifting -- eliminating a lot of offense.</p><p> </p><p> Machine releases the camel clutch and pulls Minnesota up to his feet. He hits a sidewalk slam backbreaker. He follows that up with a bow and arrow lock that has Minnesota bent over Machine’s knees.</p><p> </p><p> Earnest, “Joey Minnesota has entered The Mean Machine’s torture chamber. This is where The Mean Machine is at his finest. Working the lower back over. Grinding a match out. Letting his technical prowess and precision take over.”</p><p> </p><p> The Mean Machine releases the bow and arrow lock and pulls Minnesota up to his feet. He whips Minnesota off to the ropes and when Minnesota bounces back, Machine starts the Titl-A-Whirl, but at the top of the arc, Minnesota alters his body, wraps an arm around Machine’s head and counters with a big DDT that looks like it spiked Machine’s head into the mat. Machine sits up, his eyes glassy, and then slumps to the mat. Minnesota lays flat on his back, breathing heavily. He begins the process of rolling towards Machine, draping an arm over the champion. Fair slides into position for the count.</p><p> </p><p> One. Two…</p><p> </p><p> The Mean Machine gets his shoulder off the mat and Minnesota rolls off of him, still laying on his back. Both men take several deep breaths before Joey starts to get to his feet. Starts to pull himself up. He reaches for Machine and pulls him up as well. Minnesota sets up for a suplex but as he tries to lift Machine, he drops to a knee and grabs at his lower back. He pushes himself back up and tries the suplex again, but again he falls to a knee. On the third attempt, he gets Machine all the way up for the suplex, but can’t get him over. He crashes to the mat with Machine on him.</p><p> </p><p> One. Two. Th…</p><p> </p><p> Minnesota gets his shoulder up and Machine rises to his knees. Both men are covered in sweat. Machine pulls himself to his feet and pulls Minnesota up. Machine wraps his right arm around Minnesota’s torso and lifts him up and spins, slamming him to the mat with a hard Spinning Uranage. Machine makes the cover.</p><p> </p><p> One. Two. Thr..</p><p> </p><p> Again Minnesota kicks out. Machine runs his fingers through his hair and picks Minnesota up. Minnesota pushes him away, Machine charges back, and Minnesota counters Machine’s charge with a Tilt-A-Whirl back breaker, hitting The Mean Machine with his own trademarked move. Minnesota makes the cover as the crowd stands on their feet, anticipating a new Mid Atlantic Champion.</p><p> </p><p> One. Two. Thre…</p><p> </p><p> Machine just manages to get his shoulder off of the mat. Just manages to stave off losing his championship. Minnesota wipes his brow with his forearm. He pulls himself to his feet and braces a hand on his back for a long moment before picking Machine up. He spins Machine so he and Machine are facing the same direction. He hoists Machine up into the air for a Back Suplex.</p><p> </p><p> Marv, “I think Joey’s looking for his Empire Spiral here. Can he turn the back suplex into a spike slam and complete it? Wait. Machine just flipped over the back of Joey. Joey’s turning around.. MEAN SWING! MEAN SWING! HE JUST HIT THE MEAN SWING! ONE! TWO! THREE! The Mean Machine retains.”</p><p> </p><p> Silver, “I never doubted the champ, not for one second!”</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Winner: and STILL Mid Atlantic Champion, The Mean Machine, C</strong></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong>Main Event</strong></p><p> <span style="text-decoration:underline;">Dog Collar Match</span></p><p><span style="text-decoration:underline;"> Loser Leaves Mid Atlantic Wrestling</span></p><p> No Time Limit</p><p> </p><p> <img alt="D6YbAlt.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/D6YbAlt.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> versus<img alt="q7d5xM9.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/q7d5xM9.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> w/ <img alt="3WXNb8C.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/3WXNb8C.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p> Newton, “The following contest is our main event of the evening. It is a dog collar match and the loser must leave Mid Atlantic Wrestling. Due to the nature of this match, there is no time limit… Introducing first…”</p><p> </p><p> Generic house music plays over the sound system and the screen next to the entryway lights up with the word ‘Devine’. The crowd roars with approval as ‘Mighty Fine’ Darryl Devine pushes the curtain aside and stands there. MAW does not use an elevated stage. It’s a simple entryway. A wrestler walks through the people. They can reach out and touch him. He’s tangible. Devine’s hair is wet, his eyes are focused. He knows what he is in store for. He knows what war awaits him. He begins the walk to the ring. Usually he slaps hands with the fans, but not tonight. Not now. He just walks and rolls under the bottom rope into the ring. He passes referee Jay Fair, who stands in the center of ring holding the twelve-feet of loggers chain that has a leather dog collar attached to each end. Devine inspects the chain. It’s a thick chain. A chain that will cause pain.</p><p> </p><p> Newton, “He hails from Seattle, Washington and weighed in this evening at two hundred and five pounds. He is Mighty Fine. He is Darryl Devine!”</p><p> </p><p> Devine raises his hands to the crowd as he backs into his corner. Waiting for his opponent. Waiting for war. Just waiting.</p><p> </p><p> Earnest, “Devine looks as intense as I’ve ever seen him -- and I’ve been watching him since he broke into wrestling almost three years ago in the Pacific Northwest. He knows that this is a match that could cost him his Mid Atlantic career, but could also cost him his wrestling career. The dog collar match is brutal. It’s barbaric. It’s something from the days of wrestling gone by that was resurrected by Brayfield with the sole intention of inflicting pain.”</p><p> </p><p> Silver, “I don’t often say a match concept makes me uncomfortable -- but this one does, Marv. The idea of two men being locked together at the throat, with only twelve feet of chain separating them -- with them being able to use the chain to inflict damage upon each other. It makes my stomach turn just a little bit.”</p><p> </p><p> Earnest, “That’s a good point you made there Sarah about the chain. This match is not no-disqualification. There can be no chair shots or tables. Just the chain. The chain is legal, the other rules still apply.”</p><p> </p><p> The music changes. It’s primal. A beating drum. A guitar riff that sounds like an animalistic roar. It can only mean one thing… Brayfield pulls the curtain back and American Buffalo steps onto the stage. Six feet nine inches. Three hundred and thirty pounds. And he’s pissed off. The ringside row of fans step back a little as the Monster of the Prairie marches to the ring with Boss Man Brayfield following just behind. Buffalo steps from the floor to the apron and then over the top rope. He starts to walk towards Devine, but Fair steps in the way and holds up the chain. Buffalo snorts and backs up.</p><p> </p><p> Newton, “His opponent. He hails from Buffalo, New York and weighed in this evening at three hundred thirty four pounds. He is accompanied tonight by Boss Man Brayfield… He is… American Buffalo!”</p><p> </p><p> The crowd begins to boo as Jay Fair starts to explain the rules to each man. The first to get the dog collar put on his Buffalo. He grins as the leather is locked around his thick neck. Twisting his head as if to push the leather further into his neck. To bite him with more force. Devine gets the collar on next. He doesn’t seem as confident -- which is perfectly understandable when you are standing across from three hundred thirty pounds of brutality. Fair backs up to the center of the ring and asks both wrestlers if they are ready. Both nod yes and Fair signals for the bell. It sounds and the record-breaking Mid Atlantic Wrestling crowd sits down as one. </p><p> </p><p> Earnest, “It has begun. Two men will wage war. Two men will beat each other. Will batter each other. May even make each other bleed and at the end of tonight, only one man will still be employed by Mid Atlantic Wrestling.”</p><p> </p><p> Silver, “It almost seems unfair to ask Darryl Devine to put his body through all this when the outcome is inevitable. How can you beat a monster like American Buffalo when you can’t get away from him? Darryl’s giving up almost a hundred and thirty pounds. He can’t drag Buffalo around with the chain, but Buffalo can sure drag him.”</p><p> </p><p> As if on cue, Buffalo reaches out one of his meaty hands and wraps it around the chain. He tugs on it, pulling Devine several feet. Devine tries to dig his feet in, but Buffalo grins and pulls him again and again Devine stumbles. He’s now in the center of the ring. Just feet away from Buffalo. As Buffalo pulls on it a third time, Devine baseball slides with the pull, going between Buffalo’s legs and up on the other side. The effect of the chain snapping from the ground to back up creates a whiplash that smacks Buffalo on the inner thigh -- thankfully not the groin. It also allows Devine to throw a big forearm right to the shoulder blades of Buffalo -- and now the action has started. </p><p> </p><p> Buffalo turns around and Devine launches several forearms and then an European Uppercut and then another forearm. He’s trying to take the action to the big man right now. Trying to keep Buffalo from being able to execute the game plan that he and Brayfield designed for this. Buffalo stumbles a few steps from the barrage of strikes. Devine throws a knee to the midsection and then a knee lift -- but it just causes Buffalo to stumble more. Devine starts to take off to the ropes, but Buffalo yanks on the chain and Devine falls to the mat hard.</p><p> </p><p> Earnest, “Devine was starting to gain some momentum here, but the chain came in to play early. It’s going to be hard for him to create separation from the bigger man and launch any quick or high impact offense, because all Buffalo has to do is grab the chain and pull. His size advantage makes it a forgone conclusion he will throw Devine at least off balance.”</p><p> </p><p> Devine is quick back to his feet, but Buffalo yanks on the chain to pull Devine in. When Devine gets close enough, Buffalo tosses a big right hand that probably would have knocked out any other man. It landed flush on the jaw of Devine. Devine’s knees started to wobble and he went down, but Buffalo held on to the chain to keep him from hitting the mat. Buffalo hoists Devine up onto his shoulder and starts to take the steps to get to running, but Devine slides off his shoulder. Buffalo turns around and Devine leaves his feet for a big drop kick that sends the big guy stumbling back towards the rope -- the effect is that it pulls Devine along with him. Devine wraps his arms around Buffalo’s neck and locks in a front facelock, just trying to hold on to the big man and wear him down.</p><p> </p><p> Buffalo drops to a knee but pushes himself back up and begins to push back against Darryl -- gaining momentum as he charges towards the corner and drives Devine back first into the turnbuckles. He straightens out, wraps his arms around Devine and tosses him overhead with an overhead belly to belly suplex that sends Devine flying through the air with incredible elevation. Devine crashes into the mat and Buffalo turns and pounces. He mounts Devine and begins to launch big right hands -- his left hand holding Devine’s face in place. Brayfield yells from the outside, “use the chain! Use the chain!”</p><p> </p><p> Buffalo snarls and nods. He wraps the chain around his right fist and begins to throw heavy punches right at the forehead and eyebrow region of Devine’s face. After three chain-wrapped punches, Devine is busted open.</p><p> </p><p> Earnest, “Devine is bleeding. Buffalo has used that chain to bust Devine open. This match is about to get much more difficult for Darryl. I’ve been told that the blood flow when you’re wrestling makes it more difficult. It gets into your eyes and mixes with sweat and burns, makes it harder to see. It also wears you out more and more quickly.”</p><p> </p><p> Buffalo smiles at the blood and punches Devine harder. Opening him up more. He’s really gushing now. Buffalo stands off Devine and reaches down for a handful of hair, tugging him up. Fair warns him to release the hair and Buffalo just shrugs before driving his knee into Devine’s stomach and hitting him with an overhead release pump handle slam. Buffalo makes the cover and fair counts.</p><p> </p><p> One. Two.</p><p> </p><p> Devine kicks out and Buffalo growls. He stands up and backs up the full length of the chain. Devine begins to push himself to his feet and as soon as he gets to his knees, Buffalo launches himself as Devine and kicks him in the side of the head with a running boot. Devine crumples to the floor and Buffalo makes another cover.</p><p> </p><p> One. Two.</p><p> </p><p> Again Devine gets his shoulder off the mat. Buffalo does not look frustrated. Instead he smiles. Smirks. Sadistically almost. It means he gets to inflict more punishment. He lifts Devine back to his feet and shoots him off to the ropes. Devine hits the ropes and comes bouncing back, only to be met by a forearm wrapped in the chain for a vicious lariat that literally caused Devine to flip backwards and land on his stomach. Buffalo rolls him over and makes another cover attempt.</p><p> </p><p> One. Two. Th.</p><p> </p><p> Devine still gets his shoulder off the mat, albeit a little later than he did last time. Buffalo stands up and picks Devine back up to his feet. He looks at him and just shakes his head. He lifts Devine onto his shoulder like he was going to powerslam him.</p><p> </p><p> Earnest, “Buffalo is setting Darryl Devine up for the Stampede. Devine is in a world of trouble here.”</p><p> </p><p> Silver, “If American Buffalo can hit the Stampede, say goodbye to Darryl Devine’s career here in Mid Atlantic Wrestling.”</p><p> </p><p> Buffalo takes a few steps and starts to run but Darryl slides off his back -- the chain wrapped around Buffalo’s throat -- and is able to use the chain to hit a vicious neckbreaker that brings the three hundred thirty pound man crashing to the mat. The crowd roars as the bloodied and battered Devine crawls towards Buffalo and makes a cover.</p><p> </p><p> One. Tw..</p><p> </p><p> Buffalo powers out of the pin and rolls onto his knees. Devine pushes himself up and backs up. He gets a running start and baseball slide dropkicks American Buffalo in the temple. Buffalo rolls along the mat close to the ropes which allows Devine to hit the second rope and push his body into the air and come down with a big knee into the chest of Buffalo. The crowd is starting to come alive as Devine backs up. His face a mask of blood. His hair tinged red from the blood flow. Devine raises his fists and begs Buffalo to bring it.</p><p> </p><p> Buffalo pushes himself to his feet and snarls. He starts towards Devine, who wraps his fist around the chain and whips it towards Buffalo, causing the chain to snap off Buffalo’s side. This brings the big man down to a knee and allows Devine to begin to whip his back with the chain like it was a leather strap. Metal hits flesh and the crowd goes bezerk. This is not DAVE’s style of reckless hardcore violence. This is two men fighting for something. A job. Money. Pride. The crowd roars their approval as a bloody Darryl Devine continues to drive the chain into the thick back of American Buffalo -- causing the big man to howl in agony and crawl on his knees -- trying to get away from the onslaught. Devine lets go of the chain and starts to pull the big man to his feet -- but leaves him doubled over. He takes several steps back and comes running, leaping into the air like he’s looking for the Devine Dream Drop, but Buffalo stands up and catches Devine -- Devine sitting on the shoulders of Buffalo. </p><p> </p><p> American Buffalo stands to his full six-feet-nine inches, his arms holding Devine up in a sitting position. Devine’s eyes are wide, staring out at the crowd. Blood flows freely. Buffalo snaps him downwards and Devine’s back and neck slam into the mat and he folds in on himself.</p><p> </p><p> Earnest, “What a powerbomb from American Buffalo! My God he may have broken Darryl Devine in half!” </p><p> </p><p> Buffalo rolls Devine so he’s flat on his back and makes the cover.</p><p> </p><p> One. Two. Thre.</p><p> </p><p> Jay Fair’s hand almost slaps the mat for the third time but Devine just barely manages to get his shoulder off the mat. Just barely manages to avoid being pinned. Buffalo looks up and for the first time he looks shocked. He blinks several times as he looks at Jay Fair and Jay Fair insists that it was just a two. Buffalo stands to his feet and lifts Darryl Devine up once more and places him over his shoulder He takes off and drives Darryl Devine into the mat with a vicious Stampede. He makes the cover and Jay Fair slides into position once more.</p><p> </p><p> One. Two. Three.</p><p> </p><p> Wait! No! Fair is waving off. His momentum carried his hand down but Devine managed to get his shoulder up! Buffalo leaps to his feet and gets right in Jay Fair’s face. Insisting that was a three, but Fair holds up two fingers and explains. Buffalo kicks the bottom rope in frustration. He turns back around towards Darryl Devine who is just managing to pull himself to his feet. Buffalo charges after him, looking for a massive Lariat, but Devine ducks under it. Buffalo turns around and Devine drives his foot into Buffalo’s chin with a super kick. Buffalo stumbles and turns in a half circle, holding his jaw. He’s bent over slightly. Devine charges and leaps up, his leg finding the back of Buffalo’s neck and driving him down into the mat. He rolls Buffalo over and makes the cover.</p><p> </p><p> One. Two. Three.</p><p> </p><p> Jay Fair signals for the bell and it sounds. Boss Man Brayfield is beside himself on the outside of the ring.</p><p> </p><p> Newton, “Ladies and gentlemen. Your winner. DARRYL… DEVINE…”</p><p> </p><p> The crowd explodes as a bloody Darryl Devine gets his hand raised.</p><p> </p><p> Earnest, “He’s done it! I don’t know how. I didn’t think it possible but Darryl Devine has beaten American Buffalo and has ended American Buffalo’s Mid Atlantic Wrestling career! What a night we had here at Old School Rules! <p>And there we go! Old School Rules is in the book, officially taking us to six shows in! I'm particularly proud of this show -- as so far in the diary this has given us our best two matches and our best over all show grade. The narrative coming after will explain why American Buffalo lost as well as the most shocking news of the game (actually, two pieces of really shocking news in my book!)</p><p> </p><p>

I'd appreciate any feedback!</p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong>Part One</strong></p></div><p></p><p> </p><p>

Old School Rules had been an enormous success for the company. Over two hundred and forty people paid to see Darryl Devine and American Buffalo in the Loser Leaves Town Match. Joey Minnesota and The Mean Machine tore the house down, officially welcoming Minnesota into the upper echelon of Mid Atlantic Wrestling. Sheik put over Mainstream clean to set up for Sam Keith and Mainstream at the Fan Festival in June. Things were good.</p><p> </p><p>

At the Boot Camp, the entire roster was there. It was the first time the company had organized an after party for a show, but this particular after party was designed to send American Buffalo off with style. For six months, the three-hundred thirty pounder had been a locker room leader. He put over Nicky Champion to help him on his rise to stardom. He put Rocky Golden over -- and in his last match with the company, he put over Darryl Devine. He had been a great influence on the locker room, had worked tirelessly with Findlay to help the rookie big man understand how to work like a big man.</p><p> </p><p>

The Boot Camp was full of people tonight. Trainees were there to pick the brains of people. Girls were there with their wrestler boyfriends. Some girls were there without boyfriends but with the hopes of not going home alone -- or going home with a story to tell from a broom closet or a parking lot. </p><p> </p><p>

Booze was flowing liberally. Even people who weren’t legal to drink were consuming some alcohol, but everyone was willing to look the other way. They had all earned it. In one corner of the Camp, Sheik Mustafa was sitting on a folding chair, a beer in one hand, cigarette in the other, and was regailing Mainstream and Erik of stories of his times in Florida in the late 70’s, when he and Suhail Assanti were the Ayatolah Alliance and were one of the most hated teams in wrestling.</p><p> </p><p>

Ace Youngblood and Peresphone, the ever-so-happy couple were in the training ring, in the corner. Not doing anything they’d be ashamed of doing in public, but also not afraid to show their affection to one another. Nicole Kiss and Oscar Golden -- who had recently went public with their relationship were sharing a laugh and a bottle of vodka.</p><p> </p><p>

Rip Chord had an arm around his son Jay and was laughing at something Marv Earnest said to the group surrounding them. It was a good night, Sam Keith mused. A great night even. Sam took a long drag rom his Rainer Beer. He’d always been a Rainier man and the beer was soothing to his throat. Sam had booked for years. Booked for almost a decade now. He’d been a top guy all across the world. He had had great matches. Had been in great locker rooms. But this moment was special. It was his sixth show as booker for Mid Atlantic Wrestling. His sixth show with this group of guys. They worked hard. They didn’t play politics. The few bad apples that had been in the locker room were gone. These guys liked each other. They worked hard.</p><p> </p><p>

In the middle of his silent musing, he was interrupted by Scott, aka American Buffalo. Scott stuck out his big, meaty hand. “I appreciate the opportunity here, boss man.”</p><p> </p><p>

Sam took his hand it shook it warmly. “Thank you for everything you’ve done here. I hope Dan and Victoria know what they’re going to do with you. I hope they push you to the moon. I hope they make you a damn star.”</p><p> </p><p>

The big man laughed. A hearty laugh. “I do too. And I hope they pay in American and not Canadian dollars.”</p><p> </p><p>

Sam clapped the big fellow on the shoulder. “I hope you get to work with Junior, with Jeremy, with Duane, hell, even the kid, what’s his name?</p><p> </p><p>

“Edd.”</p><p> </p><p>

Sam nodded. “Yeah. Work with the whole family. Be the big monster heel they need up there. It’s been a long time coming.”</p><p> </p><p>

Buffalo, Scott, nodded again. He took a swig of his own bottled beer. His eyes looking around. “I’m going to miss it here. You guys run a damn good shop. Professional but friendly. Stomper’s locker room was always cold. This one.. It felt inviting.”</p><p> </p><p>

Sam nodded. “I’m glad. You’re always welcome back man. I appreciate what you did for Darryl tonight.”</p><p> </p><p>

Scott, “It’s what you’re supposed to do in this business. He would have done the same for me if the big leagues came calling for him first.”</p><p> </p><p>

Sam, “He would’ve. And I’m sure they’ll come calling sooner rather than later.”</p><p> </p><p>

Scott, “I am too.”</p><p> </p><p>

There’s a moment of silence between the two men. They had never been friends. Until Sam Keith booked Buffalo in Mid Atlantic, they had only met in passing when Buffalo did a try out for SWF but Rich didn’t like him - thought he would steal the thunder from Barry and Skull so he didn’t want to use him. Sam had always regretted that.</p><p> </p><p>

Sam took another long drink from his beer and Scott stuck out his hand. “I’ve got to get going. I’ve got to report there on Monday for a house show and I’m not done packing.”</p><p> </p><p>

Sam shook his hand. It was a long handshake. The kind of handshake you share with someone you have been to battle with. “Make us proud.”</p><p> </p><p>

Scott nodded and then he was gone. Sam looked after him for a long moment before shaking his head. He took a deep drink, finishing his Rainier off. He looked around once more. He was proud of the guys he was assembling. Slowly the roster was taking shape to be more than just guys with no experience. Sure, he had a lot of youth, but they had been paired with some guys with five or six years in the business. He was finding great, underappreciated wrestlers that he could give a little shine to. He’d brought in Darryl Devine and Joey Minnesota. Brought in rookies like Kirk Jameson and Findlay. He had a call out to a guy who wasn’t happy in TCW that would fit right in with the performance roster he was trying to build.</p><p> </p><p>

Jean saddled up next to Sam and handed him a Rainier to replace the empty one the booker was still cradling. “You okay?” Jean asked sincerely. </p><p> </p><p>

“Yeah.” Sam said. “I’m just thinking. Thinking about how far we’ve come in six months. We went from drawing one hundred seven people in December to two hundred fifty nine tonight. In six months we’ve more than doubled our attendance. Fans are happy. We’re putting out great shows. If you would have told me in November when I left working with Rich to come work out of an old Hecht’s in Baltimore that I would be this happy… Well, I would have told you that you were crazy.”</p><p> </p><p>

Jean nodded and took a drink from his own glass of whiskey. “Almost a year ago I was thinking about hanging up the boots. I’d been toiling away in Minnesota. Working every where I could, but no one would bring me in full time. I was just the good hand they’d bring in from time to time -- not good enough though. I was having a baby. I was going to quit and just be a working man. Then Rip called me. Told me he wanted me to help him out here. Was going to bring me in full time as his assistant head trainer and top heel. He was going to trust me.” Jean stops for a moment. His voice trailing off. </p><p> </p><p>

“I thought it was a prank at first. Too good to be true. But it wasn’t a prank. It was real. It was an opportunity to come in and make a difference.” Jean point to a big, strong looking kid who was standing with Antonio, and a still-in-training Casey Valentine, Davis Wayne Newton, and Nelson Callum. “That kid is about ready to debut. He’s got a lot of raw talent. Can cut a good promo. Understands how this business works. And I had a hand in that. Those other three? They’re still new to training, but they’re all going to be good. We’re doing good work here. I’m working full-time in the wrestling business -- and a year ago I was ready to quit and let this be a part of my life I only told over drinks when I was reminiscing about what could have been. This saved me.”</p><p> </p><p>

He lets that last sentence -- this saved me- hang in the air. Sam nodded thoughtfully. Drank from the beer Jean had provided. They didn’t need to say more. Sam was almost twenty years Jean’s senior. He’d been wrestling almost the entirety of Jean’s life. By the time Jean had made his wrestling debut, Sam had already been all over the world. Was already a household name. Was already considered the greatest American wrestler alive. Perhaps the best American wrestler since Rip.</p><p> </p><p>

Now here he was. Sharing a drink with a kindred spirit. Perhap the best unsigned wrestler in the country. Jean could go. Jean was honest. Didn’t cause problems. Was a locker room leader. Had become Sam’s right hand in the way that Sam was Rip’s. They knocked beers together and took a drink.</p><p> </p><p>

Across the room a white-faced Jay Fair came into the room. He scanned the room quickly. Both Sam and Rip saw him -- from different parts of the room, and headed towards him. Something wasn’t right. Something was wrong. Jay had a terrible poker face.</p><p> </p><p>

Rip got to Jay before Sam, but Sam was only a moment after that.</p><p> </p><p>

“What’s wrong?” Sam asked. Jay looked like he had a lump in his throat. A lump that size of Texas. He shook his head.</p><p> </p><p>

Rip reached out with a hand. It was a little shaky - but years of hard living would do that to a man. He rested it on Jay’s shoulder. “Son. What’s the matter?”</p><p> </p><p>

Jay swallowed. “We just got the call. They said you would want to know.” He said looking towards Rip.</p><p> </p><p>

“What call? Would want to know what?” Rip asked, his voice very serious.</p><p> </p><p>

Jay swallowed once more. “Dan Stone just died.”</p><p> </p><p>

Part Two

The silence was palpable. So thick you could cut it with a steak knife. The news had spread throughout the Camp. Dan Stone was dead. The Canadian legend. The face of the Canadian Wrestling Federation, who started his own company in the wake of his retirement in ‘85. He did it the right way. Bought Alberta and Ontario from Ed Henson. Bought the rights to run his company. A company that his entire family works in. His four sons. His daughter. North of the Border Wrestling. It had been his life’s work. Twenty one years the company had operated under his guidance. Twenty one years of stability. Of presenting quality action. Great grappling. Without showing smut, but also without being campy. All under Dan Stone’s vision. He taught his daughter how to book when her knee gave out and she could no longer wrestle like her brothers.

Sam Keith took a long drink of Rainier. A long drink to settle his nerves. He had lost friends before. This was the wrestling business. It was known for taking people to young. Or to soon. Or without warning. Drugs. Alcohol. Car Crashes. But Dan was taken by a heart-attack in his study. Dead before the paramedics got there. Another long drink of Rainier. He looked around at the boys. They all looked at him. Say something, they silently urged him. Say something, he silently urged himself. But what do you say? So he took another drink. Rip look devastated, but no one looked to Rip. He was the promoter, sure. It was his company. His money, but it was Sam’s vision. Sam was the captain of the ship, Rip just owned the ship. The boys wanted to hear from Sam. Wanted to hear from their captain.

He took another drink of Rainier. Another drink to buy him a few more precious seconds to figure out what to do. He continued to look around at the faces that all looked at him. His eyes found Steven Parker. Steven. He trained at the House of Stone, under the whole Stone Family -- but under the direct tutelage of Junior. He had met Senior before. Had sat at his kitchen table and shared a meal. Had learned from him. Steven’s eyes were glossy with emotion. Sam drank again. He swallowed hard.

Sam, “Dan Stone was a great man. A man who loved professional wrestling. He loved the business, the boys, everything. I remember in ‘79, just after I had started wrestling down in Texas, they brought him in for two weeks. He was on ‘vacation’ from Canada, taking his family to see some of the sites. The battlefields. So he worked a couple of shots for us. Main Evented a show against Rip who came back in to town. I got to work Dan while he was there. Here was a guy who was a national hero in Canada. Beloved. A top star in the business and he was working with someone who was greener than grass. He was generous with me too. Could have ate me up. Could have given me nothing. But he knew they were trying to build me. He knew that they wanted me to be a top guy -- so he made me look like a million bucks. He bumped for me. He made it look like I had him in jeopardy. In one match, he made me a star in the fans of Texas’ eyes.”

Sam paused. His eyes swept the crowd. He took another drink and continued.

Sam, “In a business of liars and cheats, of people looking for the angle, looking for the way to work the most people and get the most money he was different. He was classy. He was dignified. He was a great husband, a great father, a great grandfather -- a great man. This business is better off because of him, I am better off because of him. Everyone raise a glass.”

Everyone raises something. A beer. Wine. Vodka. Soda. Water. Something.

Sam, “To Dan Stone. May his soul find the peace that so many of us crave.”

He drinks and everyone else follows suit. It is a communal moment. A sharing of grief and pain. A sharing of loss. No one speaks for a long moment, but then conversation starts back up. A slow ripple of voices filling the Bootcamp. Stories being told by the few who have met or worked with Dan Stone. Stories being told by those who were able to see one of his matches -- including the infamous eight man tag he worked with Junior, Jeremy, and Duane in 1993 -- the last real match Dan worked. Sam closed his eyes and listened to the voices. He let the conversations wash over him.

It had started as a good night. The guys tore Stanley Hall down. They had their biggest house ever. Joey and Jean busted their asses in what was probably Mid Atlantic Wrestling’s finest match so far. Devine and Buffalo followed that up with a vicious dog collar match that had the people on their feet. While it was still a successful night, it would no longer be celebrated for their successes, but rather remembered for the loss suffered.

Sam opened his eyes. He took another drink. Then another. Then another. He drank the rest of the night He drank until he passed out in his office. Drank so that hopefully when he woke up he wouldn’t remember the great loss. He was wrong though… The day broke on Saturday morning. Sunlight pushing in through the window and Sam woke up. He smelled. The whole place smelled. But the sun was out. It was a new day. And there was still work to be done.

<p>Finally getting around to this.</p><p> </p><p>

1. Would be cool if you could have the name of the people in the tag team in parenthesis or something just in case people aren't familiar/new to the thread. I've got no idea who is in Sins of Our Father besides Paul Huntingdon.</p><p> </p><p>

2. How's Keith doing? Is he in TD? Sucks about him losing the belt, I imagine that wasn't what you wanted. Who'd he lose it to?</p><p> </p><p>

3. Not a big fan of Titan's look. He's got the look of someone in his 40s. Good to see the big guys winning but hoping Flash/Golden remain fixtures in the tag division. </p><p> </p><p>

4. Good win for the champ. Minnesota doesn't need the title but looks really good with a great match against Mean Machine. It'll be fun seeing him duel with guys like Nicky, Rocky, Mainstream and the rest of the studs here.</p><p> </p><p>

5. Terrific main event. Wonder if anything will be done of Fair calling off his own three count. Boss Man Brayfield can't want to take Fair's word for it. </p><p> </p><p>

6. Great eulogy for Dan Stone Sr. Awkward for American Buffalo who is just heading there. Who is in charge of NOTBPW now, I wonder?</p><p> </p><p>

Nice show overall. </p><p> </p><p>

Mid Atlantic Championship</p><p>

Sixty Minute Time Limit</p><p>

Rocky Golden versus <strong>The Mean Machine ©</strong>: I don't think Golden will present much of a challenge. </p><p> </p><p>

Semi-Main Event</p><p>

Grudge Match</p><p>

Forty Five Minute Time Limit</p><p>

Mainstream Hernandez versus <strong>Sam Keith</strong>: I'm not quite sure how good Sam Keith is, he wasn't able to pull Taylor to a great rating so you might choose to put Hernandez over. But this is '05 so maybe he's still got it in the tank. </p><p> </p><p>

Six Man Tag</p><p>

Thirty Minute Time Limit</p><p>

Des Davids and Natural Storm versus <strong>The Plantation [Findlay and the Ring Generals]</strong> w/ Boss Man Brayfield: The Plantation needs to redeem itself and Findlay needs to fully take on the American Buffalo role.</p><p> </p><p>

John Green is the other member of The Sins of our Fathers. I searched for an Alt for Titan but couldn't find one. I may have to look again, but he does have the look of a dude much older than he actually is.</p><p> </p><p> I definitely didn't want him to lose the belt. I was fully expecting him to carry it for the bulk of the year. I don't have the save file in front of me right now so I'll have to check and see who he lost the belt to, but they had like, a B- match or something like that. Sam is in TD. Like, five years or so past his prime in the game, so that's not where I'd like him to be, but I'm dealing with it. Fortunately MAW's young and, if I can keep the diary going, is bound to start producing young talent from the dojo -- I know at least three guys come out in 07.</p><p> </p><p> Dan Stone Jr takes control of NOTBW. I'll have to look up who is booking, but I think it's still Victoria.</p>

<p>An apology</p><p> </p><p>

If it was not apparent, this diary ended up dying a painful death. It was always my intention to carry it on for as long as I could, but unfortunately I had some serious health issues come up as a direct result of the accident I had been in previously [not for sympathy or anything, just so people know I wasn't flaking out on it]. The issues left me pretty unable to maintain any sort of writing schedule or writing stamina (once I was able to consistently be back with a computer). </p><p> </p><p>

Maybe one day I'll be able to get a diary going again with some sort of longevity. My plan now is to just be a diary reader and commentator as well as active on the main forum while I get myself back into shape enough to write with any sort of quality.</p><p> </p><p>

Thank you to those that read and played along. I do appreciate it!</p>
